Mouth watering range of baked goods, another good reason to venture southside.
The pie's are super flakey, with dense, chunky innards.
Come one, come all!!

Thank you Austro Bakery for making my birthday special!
I was walking on the street and went into the bakery after seeing the fun & unique window display.
During the covid lockdown, I started to quit eating processed sugar. So, I wasn't gonna get any cakes. However, I found a delicious looking quiche.
Although I didn't plan anything, it was such a nice alternative. The quiche was best ever! 🤩 Thank you.

I recently found this venue while on a walk around my new suburb.
The venue from the outside is so enticing and you can already tell even before you’ve entered that there is a care factor for presentation.
Inside is stunning and the food is some of the best I’ve ever experienced. All staff members are extremely friendly and nice and catered to all our needs.
Impossible to regret visiting!

Highly recommended by my local community. Great choice of buying breakfast for family during lockdown.

Delicious baked goods. We tried a sandwich, quiche and pastry and were impressed with all. The pandan, coconut and pineapple danish was delicious and reminiscent of south-east asian flavours!

Best Pretzel I've had in Australia. Excellent chicken sandwich. Try the Austrian goodies such as the Mustard and that drink in the red can I can never remember the name of.
L. Y. X.
how great this bakery is. they served amazing brekky from 8-3 daily , fresh bread and pastry which definitely cheers your day.
i did like the pretzel, it was the best!

One of the best bakeries in Melbourne. Beautiful bread, delicious croissants, interesting continental bakes and a chocolate cake that is just divine. Great savoury food is available too. Try the pies and the sandwiches, you won't be disappointed.

8/10 $5.90 Pear and Chocolate Danish
Disappointing bland Goulash pie ... awesome soft crust pastry ...

Decent croissants and coffee, nice set up, friendly staff and reasonable prices. Better than agathe.

I visited Austro Bakery this weekend and I overheard a number of people, just like me, visited because of the Broadsheet review.
Austro has a relatively large dining space and would have been so good for families to have breakfast before visiting the market, but alas they don’t actually provide high chairs.
The breakfast menu wasn’t extensive, but they do have a lot of breakfast-looking pastries for sale. I decided on a ham and cheese croissant for my little one and tried the egg Verdi with parsley and kale. The ham and cheese croissant was nice although a little burnt. The egg verdi tasted quite healthy although because it’s baked, the egg tasted a bit rubbery and over cooked on top.
I also got their cakes takeaway. Their chocolate babka was actually very dry and not very chocolatey, thankfully their chocolate raspberry cake was really yummy. All in all, there are better options around South Melbourne so I won’t be going back in a hurry.

Been here a few times. Sandwiches are excellent, hot food is not bad and cakes/pastries are very nice. Fairly good value for money also.

Lovely customer service and great coffee. The outdoor dining is a winner. Will come back to taste pastries!

#homemade #pastry #delicious This bakery cafe is super big, clean and with a friendly atmosphere. The fact that all the pastry is fresh and made over there, makes this place even more special. The ham and cheese toast was extremely crispy and delicious. I highly recommend.

Hidden little gem opposite Queen Vic market! Sitting inside, it feels like you are in a little Austrian suburb with neighbors pouring in early morning. Must try the croissants and the ham and gruyere toaster with béchamel is to die for!
M. L.
Very nice especially the pretzel bun. Loves it
Cauliflower and cheese pie fabulous too.
Z.
good selection of pastries and foods, the giant pretzel i got tasted a bit stale though, not sure if it was from the day before
E. B.
The 🥨 cookies was so delicious, beautiful pastries , great price and the service was excellent, They were not only Focused on local customers but so friendly for every customers too .
K. K.
I was carving for cakes and pastries after long day of work. Good service and fantastic pastries. Every one of them looks amazing. I will come back with my partner and friends next time.
M. S.
They have such great coffee and very delicious patisseries!! I was very surprised how great the quality was!
T. H.
The pork and fennel sausage roll is ace. The relish is also very good. Had a chicken and leek pie today and it was average though, really dry filling, very chunky and rubbery pastry. Not a particular nice flavour, pretty disappointing given the pair cost me the best part of $18.
P. T.
Wonderful local bakery with an Austrian twist - prob the best sourdough in South Melbourne!
S. M.
Love this place!
They are friendly, the pastry is out of this world delicious and the coffee is amazing.
I visited here and Luné on the same day and can confidently say the snacks here were better than Luné.
Give it a go
K. S.
They make excellent coffee the croissant was good but to much like "bread" for me
R. N.
Refreshingly unique menu, amazing sweet and savoury take home treats. Must try everything. Excellent value compared to bakeries within SM Market. Worth visiting just for the giant pretzels.
G. K.

Excellent coffee, great baked goods (the scrambled egg brioche bun at $4.50 is awesome!) and friendly, no-fuss service.

BIG FAN! Best bakery I've ever been to. Literally silver platter service when they serve up your take away coffee. Crossaints so layered, crispy and just...YUMMMM!!! BEST thing so far, fruit loaf. Must.visit.regularly. If you're going to have carbs, they might well be the most perfect tasting carbs you'll ever have.

I’ve been coming here weekly for breakfast since it’s opened. The continental breakfast hits the spot and is such great value. The eggs verdi is also yummy - not too creamy and packed with greens. I also like the Bircher muesli, simple but it has great consistency and I love the sour cherries that comes with it. Also worth getting is their giant pretzel. Service is also warm and friendly - the people who run this cafe are all lovely.
R. R.
Absolutely delicious...must try one of everything here!!
J. W.
This is such a great find. Went with my friends and we all loved it. The coffee is just great. Best in the area!! and super fast. Loved the Kugel and Austrian donuts. The staff are really friendly and efficient. We’ll definitely be coming back. We’ll try the amazing breakfast dishes next. Yum!!!

Great new bakery and Cafe right near the markets. Which makes it an excellent place to sit and have a coffee and an amazing fresh baked treat without having to be in the hustle and bustle of the markets. Amazing selection of sweet and savoury bits as well as fresh baked breads and pastries. Add to that great coffee and lovely staff and you can't go wrong
P. T.
Couldn’t rate Austro highly enough. During these difficult times they’ve introduced a free delivery service and in order to show support to these businesses we ordered a loaf of sourdough and milk. It was hand delivered with a smile and is honestly the best bread ever! Thank you Austro we’ll be ordering more more more!

A. H.

B. C.

S. L.
Incredible selection of baked goods. Always something new and seasonal to try. We go there whenever we get the chance!
S. N.
Great range of unique pastries and good service as well. We brought the kids and a baby and felt very welcome which isn't the case everywhere in Sth Melbourne sadly. Great coffee as well. Highly recommended!
R. G.
Good coffee, great trad but original food. Amazing desserts. Good service and staff.
V. B.
Without doubt, the most authentic breads and patties I have tried. The Apple Strudel has the warm memory when I was growing up. Packed with apples and lovely spicey flavors and aroma. I have also tried the Danish pastry filled with chocolate lushishness. The word 'lushishness' is not found in the English dictionary, but who cares. These delectable tasting treats and breads make you speak a language you would not ordinarily use.
All of the products are prepared, made and baked in-house on the premises. Yum! Yum! Yum!!!
R. Y. J. Y.
Friendly staff, amazing flavourish passtries and breads, copying place ad nice coffee.. what else do we need ? love this place.
E. S.
This place is amazing. Addicted to their coffees and their sourdough. Soooo grateful that they have been able to continue serving food during covid lockdowns.
M. S.
Loved this place! The Vienna coffee (a long black with fresh whipped cream) was incredible, as were the pies and cookies. Will definitely be back to try all the other amazing looking desserts!
J. R.
Probably the best bakery in Melbourne, certainly in the top 3 along with Falco and Agathè
c.
Delicious pastry and Vienna coffee. Cookie was stale. Hubby had a soy latte, a bit weak. The food cabinet has no cover or lid.
A. B.
Great coffee and orange juice. The food all looked a bit dry and sad in the display. especially the tartines.
S. K.
Mouth watering amazing. I love this place! Highly recommend for dine in or take away.
W. H.

E. S.
+ great bread & pastry variety

Allpress coffee = perfection. Obsessed with their sour dough, crunchy outside, soft fluffy center. They always have different sweets, so I try something new every time - today was the rum-soaked Baba with custard and strawberries. Really enjoy this bakery and all the buttery goodness 😊
S. J.
Excellent coffee, and unique and very yummy desserts!
R. L.
Amazing, beautiful breads and sandwiches - love the pretzel bun and the prosciutto, mozzarella & rocket baguette.
I.
Quality is fantastic, but the selection is a little "safe", but a few special items makes this a worthwhile place to visit.
J. L.
Excellent baked goods and great eat-in options too.
