Comments of Convent Bakery
C. T.
Visited the bakery with family for lunch on a very hot Sunday. There was plenty of shade under the big umbrellas which made sitting outside very pleasant. We tried a number of food selections and drinks and found the whole experience to be very enjoyable. I would highly recommend the bakery for catch ups and great atmosphere.👌
E. K.
The bakery is located right in the middle of the Abbotsford convent. You can find a couple of different other cafes too. In here you can get mostly sandwiches/paninis and few brunch dishes. Overall the sandwiches were okay, but the fritters were underwhelming and had this awkward limpy texture.

Did thé beginner bread making course recently.
Great fun first time making various breads from 8 am till 2 pm.
Staff was excellent, informative and I recommend trying it if you’ve been shy of making your own bread.
Had lots to takeaway which I gave most away to family and friends who were very impressed with the results.
Thanks again for a great day !

Had the big breakfast and it was just right. Eggs runny, like I asked, bacon not burnt to a crisp, nice spicy sausage and some tasty mushrooms. Good service, relaxed. Walk around the grounds a perfect finish. Will go again for sure.
H. G. K.
Loved the chilli scrambled eggs. Had a side of chorizo and hash browns. Quick service. Lots of items in cabinets that looked yummy. My son loves the frog in the pond too :)
M. A.
I had the most delicious breakfast and I really enjoyed the atmosphere but not the pigeons! I wasn’t comfortable with them flying around me thinking they might attack my food in any second. Definitely coming back because what I ordered was really great.
P. W.
Great food, mostly made in house, so not sure why the bakery has bad reviews. The pigeons have made a mess on many of the outdoor tables, but you can always take away and sit anywhere in the convent gardens to eat.
f.
Nice coffee and smoothie but I was a bit disappointed to receive a plastic straw and disposable cup for water.
J. M.
This place is absolutely beautiful and having a little farmers market fair is even better. I stumbled across this event so I’m not sure if it’s a weekly, monthly or once in a while event! The outdoor area of the Convent bakery is where we parked ourselves. Plenty of pups everywhere with their owners. Food and bakery was amazing however our first order was a stuff up and given the wrong sandwich. Our friends came along, ordered again and got a number, only to have one of the wait staff removed our number before asking. This was done sneakily as no one knew our table number was taken away. Thus making us wait for our food for ages until I noticed we didn’t have a table number and has to into the cafe to ask! Apart from that, the guy at the till was super friendly and the bakery options weee great!

Nice spot. Sit inside or outside under the trees.
L. M.
Nice spot to stop for some coffee and cake if visiting the Abbotsford Convent, Collingwood Children’s Farm or just having a stroll or bike ride along the Yarra Trail. Coffee is good and a varied selection of cakes are on display. There is also a kitchen which prepares food a la carte. There are plenty of tables with umbrellas to sit and enjoy your food outdoors.
B. G.
Service was quite fast despite the queue. Moderate to upper pricing. Must select table prior to ordering a meal. Better for take-away coffees and pastries. Be prepare for organic drinks.
M. A.
Amazing place to choose from coffee and a feed from the bakery or multiple cafes. Friendly peaceful environment.
J. G.
Staff were friendly enough. Food was ok. I ordered a burger and the pattie was rather rare. Not good for a burger.
My companions steak sandwich was rather ordinary. Coffee and juice were great.
A. F.
Great destination for a bike ride with the kids. Plenty of space for them to roam whilst you enjoy a coffee. Food and coffee is good, not great. But worth the experience.
M. D.
Coffee is great but pastry is very average. Nice atmosphere and friendly staff.
N.
Very popular cafe in Abbotsford. Coffee is nice and this particular chai latte is not too bad at all - very spicious. A nice place to catch up with some friends and reasonably children friendly
R. D.
Service front is slow with just one person manning the counter for a lot of patrons.. Good bakery with fresh bread smells, scones, baked goodies and proper artisan breads.
A. L.
Good atmosphere, great food. Would come back again.
D. C.
A beautiful inner Melbourne setting ... the Covent bakery has the fastest coffee servers in Australian and loved the cinnamon granola... keep up the good work
N. S.
Good coffee and variety of food/pastries
T. H.
This is a perfect place to visit, the food is delicious not to mention the coffee and all the loaves also to take home!
S. S.
Really average. We had the falafel wrap, which was incredibly dry, and quiche was very small portion and also dry. Lovely location but wouldn't return.
J. D.
The food here is heavenly. Great Atmosphere. Beautiful grounds.
T. Y. (.
Various choices for a quick and light meal
Flat white is too bad to mention
S. S.
Amazing pastry! 10 stars! Hehe
What other reviews say about the pigeons is true. Just keep an eye on you food. The service could be better, it felt like I was asking to give me that croissants for free... eerm
Will definitely go back though cause pastry is super tasty
Z. H.
Lovely coffee and a great selection of baked goods!
L. P.
Delicious food - this place has really improved over the years. Big variety of vego options and food reasonably priced. My only complaint was that the aggressive pigeons and magpies drove me crazy. They were literally stealing food out of toddlers' hands. I would've stayed for longer but I had birds all around me hunting for scraps and eventually I got fed up and left. The staff really need to do something to keep them away.
R. B.
Great space and great coffee. The food looks delicious and I'll be back to try some. It's counter service, and take a number sort if deal. But service is prompt and friendly. It's right outside the entry to the Collingwood children's farm in the beautiful grounds of the convent. Parking is not great, and can be quite expensive, but public transport is easy enough from Victoria Park station.
N. N.
We love the Convent Bakery in Abbotsford! Being locals (kind of) we try to come here when we can. The food is amazing and the drinks are always on point. And the best part? It's so quick, you don't have to wait very long for anything which means a quick coffee and a snack literally is quick, you can be in and out with full stomachs in 15 mins. Awesome!
P. P.
I dropped in while at the farmers market to grab some bread and a muffin. I chose a dark sourdough Rye. The bread is a good sourdough with a good crust and decent bread inner. Dark it is. A rye it is not. So while it's nice it's not up to expectations. I want to taste caraway in my Rye and there's nothing. Get the taste right and you'd get 5. Service was good.
P.
Went there last weekend and had a look at the vegan options. I ate the broccoli soup, which was really good and creamy. They have more vegan options like bread with smashed avocado and beetroot, a vegan super salad, falafel sandwiches, vegan and gf apple crumble and vegan hot chocolate. Can highly recommend going there. Friendly staff and good service!

Convent bakery
Pros:
🥧 I had a quiche which was delicious and baked to perfection
🗺 The vibe here is awesome. We sat outside and although cold, we kept warm because of the cosy and appealing vibe.
💰Prices are reasonable, and quality is worth the price you pay
Cons:
👎🏼There isn’t a lot of variety here, the selection of baked goods is quite average
G. P.
its a small place. feels homely but its squishy. they have the yummiest baked sweets.... im not a sweet bread kinda person but their tarts and brownies and pastries are so fresh. so delicious. 👌🥰
R. Q.
Excellent bread, and pastries, being offered freshly baked. Cheery staff, and obviously has an early morning following of breakfasters.
N.
A nice cosy pace. Delicious gluten free dessert on offer.
K. W.
Love going to the Bakery ... great coffee, delicious meals ... love their Chicken Pies ... and all the Staff are amazing and very friendly
R. C.
Great vibe inside & out. Coffee is just right too! Awesome setting as part of the Convent.
C. S.
I've lived the area for a long time and have been visiting the convent since it reopened 10 years ago.The Convent Cafe has become more and more like a tourist herding cafe in recent years with the service and food quality suffering as a result. It does however offer the most generic cafe style menu at the convent with a good variety of choice. If you are however looking for a more relaxed and friendly atmosphere you should probably try Cam's Cafe next door (hidden inside the building) or the small but outstanding japenes place next door..they both offer better coffee and better service.
A. F.
Nice pizza and beer. Loved the fact that they are located in a very peaceful environment, but bear in mind there are lots of pigeons wandering around you while you are eating.
N. D.
We organised pre reception drinks at The Bakery as our wedding was held at the convent. The staff there were fantastic and provided a great synergy with the Bursaria team. They were friendly and attentive to our guest's needs.
D. C.
This little caravan is serving gorgeous coffee and snacks. It is bringing a lot of joy to people who are in Covid lockdown. Thankyou
M. J. H.
Amazing raspberry white chocolate muffin and coffee sitting next to the fire. It can't get better 😍
F. R.
Excellent spot for family and for a day our. Rustic buildings from a bygone era, home bakery and more. Its a v popular place for a day out, oh, pick a sunny day!
E. H.
If you are looking for a place to go, grab a little food, relax and ponder life while taking in some breathtaking architecture of ole', then you have to come to the convent.
Right on the edge of Abbotsford the Abbotsford Convent is an historic place handed from the church to a trust, and the trust has opened it to the public for art, and alternative sciences as well as small industries.
Many weddings and other activities happen here as well, and it is just so peaceful to take it all in.
When I am stressed to the max, I leave my tech behind and just sit on the lawn and watch the people go by.
F. H.
I'm a regular visitor and even though the staff have changed recently, the food and new staff are still well worth stopping in for. Close to the Collingwood Children's Farm too so you can do two things in one trip.
S. M.
The vibes are on point, food is s tier
U. G.
I have been here two times and the food is delicious and decently priced. I found the first time very unfriendly and full of attitude staff but the second time it was less attitude but still not what it needs to be hospitality. Will go and try again to see what i get this time ;-)

There should be allergy warnings or at least a list of ingredients on their packaged products. Our son had a reaction to a chocolate ginger bread man today.
When I asked what was in it a staff member said they put peanuts in all their chocolate products.
Luckily his reactions are minor compared to others.
S. O.
The sandwiches and pastries are quite nice and the location within the Abbotsford Convent make for a good atmosphere. If you are taking away though be wary that the pies don't stay crispy in a paper bag for long!
r. p.
A GR8 PLACE 2 DROP IN2. THE FOOD IS FRESH
& THE COFFEE HITS THE MARK. if you are in the area by car or bike you have the childrens farm across the road. And there a some lovely walks along the yarra river.
G. O.
Good breakfast, though the crispy bacon wasn't crispy at all. Coffee and juices were quite good. A little pricey but it supports the community and non-profits, so all good!
S. R.
Amazing assortment of food from delicious muffins to big breakie. Which is highly recommended. Home made breads. Coffee it's also good.
B. P.
Great food choices and a lovely sunny outdoor dining area. Perfect choice for a casual lunch with friends.
M. P.
Very nice bakery food and great coffee, at times there can be a line and it's a little overpriced IMO. Anyway, worth going, outdoor seats are great on a sunny day.
J.
Perfect bakery for a breakfast stop when doing the bike city loop.
S. H.
Great place to sit and relax outside in the beautiful convent area. Interiors sitting area is also beautiful.
Slow service.
Average food and coffee.
Very pricey. Prices are above average.
R. T.
I love visiting here. The food and coffee is great with excellent fresh baked bread to take home. Nothing better than having brunch here and then a walk by the Yarra.
G. B.
Nice service
Very nice food
Love the environment
Will come back again!
T. T. L.
Best bread in town. Also have a lovely collection of coffee for sale. They also donate a portion of their breads to charity. Nice place
M. L.
Good spot
V. P.
The mid 80's ambience is simply amazing. Good place if you're looking to sit out on a sunny day.
J. M.
Beautiful place. Fantastic food and service
n. k.
Nice bakery. Woodfire bread. Tasty pies, pasties and sausage rolls. Good selection of other cafe food and pastries.
P. S.
Interesting atmosphere situated in the convent ground's. Food and messy ordering were not for me. Trying again this weekend.
M. A.
We go to the Convent Bakery often. It's colourful, fun and the food is very good .. and cheap! A great place for families with small children and the bread is wonderful
H. L.
Just had the most amazing 'Creme Brule' and would highly recommend if you have a sweet tooth! Great food, great service and lovely surroundings.
E. A.
Delicous artisan bread and pastries. I usually have their sourdough but I have been enjoying their pastries lately (in moderation haha)
D. d.
Located at abbotsford convent, a lovely outdoor dining option. Perfect for a family brunch with the kids

J. B.
Good selection of cakes and slices. A little expensive but worth the money. Plenty of seating inside and out
B. T.
Great pies and sausage rolls and nice coffee too, however it can be difficult to get a table at times.
A. M.
We were very pleased that they were open on Good Friday morning. Coffee was fine.

Was there on Sunday afternoon 19/06.
After waiting 10 minutes in the cue looking at their delicious pies and pastries I was informed all the food in the warmer was already sold and no other alternatives were provided by the chap behind the counter !! That's the last thing I want to hear after a considerable wait. Great food, when you can get it, but complemented by bad service!
