Comments of Gordon St Bakery

Extremely good croissants - easily on par with the other famous croissants places around the city.
Their Sourdough loaves are also excellent although I personally prefer a high top shape over the cobs that they sell.
Parking is fine when I go (weekends before 8am) but I can imagine it would get very busy come 9am or so.

The best croissants Ive had in Melbourne. Different to the ones you get at Vic market or south melbs in that they are not overly sugary but every bite is like a soft pillow of heavenly love. You feel so good after eating these croissants, I’m pretty sure God blesses each one as they are in the oven.
M. H.
The team here produce one of the best croissants in Melbourne. It's in my top 5 for sure. Great lamination skills for sure. I'm a massive fan of a plain croissant and I wish Gordon St Bakery was Southside where I am. I would recommend going early on a Thursday or a Friday, that was you'll beat the wait times. Their almond croissants and bread is great too, but I prefer my plain croissants. The new fit out looks great. Cheese twists are also a must try!!!

Overall: 5/5
BEST ALMOND CROISSANT EVER. IN MELBOURNE. Better than your infamous TV-broadcasted ones.
I am a sucker for almond croissants, whether it’s filled with frangipane or custard creme with other exciting elements such as yuzu or some lemon zing. Top pastry shops or patisseries definitely raise the benchmark at a competitively difficult level, but this tiny bakery on Gordon St surpass it with such ease. You can really see how much fun the bakers have when making the creamy filling in the almond croissants as well as their beautiful arrangement of sourdough breads. They serve a small variety of baked goods and are only open Thursdays-Sundays, but they do their best in showcasing their passion in patisseries.
Almond croissant (5/5):
Lune have a citrusy flavour and double-baked croissant exterior, and Bakemono have the most amazing light yet creamy yuzu filling with their well-toasted almonds. With that in mind, Gordon St has the texture of that double-baked flakiness and perfectly-toasted almond croissants. Most importantly, the creamiest frangipane ever to exist that I still dream about - not too sweet with enough kick. Generous filling compared to other bakeries. Make sure to lick that frangipane good because you’ll be on the ground dying from how good it is and how bad it’ll be if it went to waste.
Cheese stick (4/5):
When you thought the flakiness from the almond croissant is enough, this was just beyond flaky. Idk but I found this a bit too excessive. All that flake falls off from the bread and you lose about 1/5 of your pastry. Other than that, omg so buttery and rich in that cheese flavour. Flavour reminds me of your Baker’s Delight cheese breads in terms of saltiness. Worth a try!
Overall, very cheap for stealing the spot for my favourite food in the entire universe. Service is very streamlined and fast, especially when their breads and pastries are made and brought to the display window in front of you.
Will be seeing me there more often and can’t wait to try their other pastries and breads. Heard their olive sourdough is amazing!

I have loved coming here. The people are lovely and was a repeat customer during lockdown and never failed to make those days better. The bakers are also amazing - always a hit no matter what you buy.
F. P.
We bought almond croissant, almond chocolate croissant, galette, and olive sourdough.
I'm not a sweet food person but even I could tell the croissants and galette are really good. It's slightly too sweet for my palate, but not overly sweet. The pastry though, it's amazing. Flakey, buttery, and light.
The highlight of my day is the olive bread. Very flavourful just by itself. I prepared a dipping of olive oil with garlic. Must try!
There's no sitting in the area, only take aways.
Edit: bought cheese sticks the next day. Yum yum!
L. P.
These cheesesticks are divine. I could eat them as is or as part of a beautiful platter and they would still be a star player. Croissants also excellent
C. L.
Wow!!
Great bread. Seriously great.
Ordered a loaf of sour dough, a baguette, croissants and various other French pastries to go. They were all awesome. Went back the next day at 12:45pm and the baker said (with a French accent) “no no, so sorry, we sold out of bread at 11:30am today”!!
French accent is so hot. I smiled and left with more croissants.
I.
Relatively new to the area and a pretty simple little bakery. No hot goods on offer - maybe 10 items for sale at the counter. Open 4 days a week I think, a few hours at a time. Excellent Breads and pastries. Coffee was decent, croissant was good also. There is no seating anymore or coffee served after lunch.
T. M.
Amazing viennoisierie, the plain croissant took me and my partner back to Paris. I haven't tried the bread or coffee. Worth traveling for.
C. c.
Love all croissant from this bakery. It own and bake by French baker. It taste just as good as all the other famous French bakery in South Melbourne and Brunswick, but with a more reasonable price. Very friendly staff too.
R. P.
Fantastic Almond Croissants 🥐 and great coffee too! Glad to see this place is back
S. D. A.
Best almond croissants ever! love their cinnamon roll too! Also amazing staff, always so friendly and nice ☺️ absolutely love this place!
C. C.
This bakery is awesome.. delicious variety of fresh baked goods and the best coffee. Happy Friendly, staff great vibe.. you will need to queue but it is worth the wait.
M. T.
Fantastic French style bakery, best sourdough bread in Footscray.
The chocolate & almond croissants are amazing!
I. A.
Such quick and friendly service. Loved the food and their handling technique as they get a lot of customers during peak hours.
N. P.
The food here is absolutely jaw droppingly good. Their pastry melts in your mouth, all of the textures and flavours are absolutely perfect. Super cheap for a breakfast/brunch/lunch visit with decent coffees - it's often packed though for its small size so don't expect to get a seat right away (if at all). They only serve a few delicacies, so don't go here if you're wanting a hot meal/pie/sandwich/typical bakery cake - they specialise in Croissants, bread, cookies and cheese sticks and coffees - that's just about their whole menu, but they have mastered each item (bar the coffees, they're just average).
N.
They have some great treats here. The almond and chocolate croissant is probably the pick of the bunch, and and baguettes are delicious and have perfect crusty casings.
V. T.
I absolutely love the chocolate almond croissants! And I've never been a pastry fan. Very high quality stuff, wonderful staff too
c. j.
So many reasons to come here, walnut baguette fo the soul, almond croissant for the lips and everything else for the hips. Coffee is damn fine. Don't tell everyone, it's really great without being hipster tragic. I wish it was closer to my home.
S. L.
No fuss bakery
Great products
One of the best almond croissants ever
Reasonable prices
G. R.
Freshly baked goods in the morning. Pretty cheap compare to most places. Their croissant is superb! Buttery layers, flaky exterior and fluffy interiors. The double baked almond and the cheap cheese sticks are the highlight. A true hidden gem in Footscray.
T.
small and quaint, minimal selection of pastries but it seems like they've really mastered what few they offer. the almond croissant was so divine i completely devoured it before my coffee was even ready. the coffee was also excellent. definitely recommend!
L. W.
Absolutely delicious baked treats and have been ridiculously supportive of local footscray hospital during the pandemic - legends ❤️
K. O.
Glad to finally try this after coming earlier in the week and they were closed. Reckon it's better than Lune. Part of me doesn't want them to get too famous/busy so at least when we go there will be seats! Lol just joking. Welcome to Footscray :-)
T. N.
The BEST sourdough I've ever had. Truly phenomenonal. Soft, doughy and genuinely slightly sour insides, with a crunchy chewy crust that doesn't break your teeth like other sourdough crusts. The almond croissants are also the best I've ever had. Usually everything is still warm from the oven when I buy it 🤤. I really should try other things but I'm so stuck on these two that I tend to just stick to what I know and love. Never change and never close please, Gordan St Bakery!
G. M.
Just had the BEST almond croissant I’ve ever had. Thank you!!
M. K.
Richly buttery croissants, with a few variations and other flaky pastries. Olive bread smells of kalamata olives is also wonderful fresh (just watch for pips). Friendly staff and fair prices for such well made indulgences
K. K.
I work at the mental health ward at Footscray hospital and this week, my colleague and I were having a stressful time with the new lockdown announced. I go every week to the bakery to pick up their beautiful sourdough for the weekend and to get a coffee with their beautiful croissants. Today, they gave me a free croissant! Just made my day and cheered me up after a rough two weeks of work. It was such a special gesture. They remember my name and they know my coffee as well - very warm, friendly people with beautiful baked goods. The almond croissant is to die for! Thoroughly recommend - go early coz they always sell out by 12 pm which is when I have my lunch break! Just thought that I absolutely had to review them today!
H. S.
Truly one of the best bakeries in Melbourne. Do yourself a favour and get the cheese stick!
D. W.
Nice staff, good variety bakery. The bread is awesome but the pastry is average, 2/3 of the pastries I bought are slightly burnt/too dry. Not the top bakery in Melbourne but still above average bakery, especially in Footscray.
M. Q.
Highlight is the almond croissant, flaky outside, soft sweet inside. I like that it's not pretentious which is reflected in their pricing, i get the feeling they just want to serve straight up quality pastry and bread without all the
bells and whistles and hipster fanfare, good work guys keep it up
R. P.
Great bread, croissants, and coffee. Get there early to avoid the queue.
It'd be five stars for me if the pain au raisin had creme patissiere instead of cinnamon in it!
F. D.
Due to corona restrictions, there will be a line out the door! Delicious baked goods - I wish I could marry their cookie. The service is always so quick and helpful, even if I'm asking about bread types or for recommendations. love that you can see everything from the front of the store.
R. S.
Amazing bakery in Footscray. Go early to avoid disappointment of it being sold out. Excellent French patisserie selection. The chocolate almond croissant is amazing as is the cheese sticks and olive bread. Always friendly and efficient service too
P.
This bakery is so delicious! Can't believe we didn't find it earlier! Definitely recommend it if your looking for a wee delightful bite. Croissants, pain au chocolat, bread, palmiers and many others!
N. S.
Amazing bread (the olive is our favourite), and incredible treats. The chocolate almond croissant is a stroke of genius. And the cheese sticks. The. Cheese. Sticks. The sleeper hit. Soft, layered, delicious bits of leftover croissant dough with cheese added in, light and fluffy and flaky and buttery and just amazing.
L. C.
We were early and just beat the queue. Products were fresh and my friend with experience rated it highly ("Best cheese stick" she has had). I had a Gallette and it was nice. My French bread was delicious too.
A. P.
Pastries to die for, go the choc almond croissants and the palmier..even the standard croissant is flaky yet crispy and buttery, you can't go wrong. Great coffee too. YUM YUM! Get there early on the weekend or else they're sold out!
K. B.
Best bakery in Footscray/the west. Gordon St Bakery is my go-to weekend bakery for beautiful multi-grain sourdough and almond-choc croissants. The line says it all but always moves quick. Also great coffee always served with a smile.
s. k.
Loved the almond croissant and chocolate croissant.. best one I ever had in Melbourne.. it’s quite busy so need to be their early to avoid the disappointment of soldout.
g.
Get in early to avoid missing out! This place does a heaving trade, particularly on the weekends when queues form down the street. The pastries are all delicious. The croissants are delightful, and as someone who normally hates the OTT almondy-ness of almond croissants, I love a Gordon St choc almond croissant. Plus the bread is delicious, particularly the baguettes and their grain loaf.
T. I.
Such an awesome addition to this pocket of Footscray! So glad we live close by and can pop in early, these guys are producing such a good product that they often sell out.
Hot tip: the olive bread is insane and stays deliciously fresh for days.
J. M.
It's quite simple: This place know's exactly what they're doing. Their baking is revealing, it's completely satisfying and pure happiness. Their sourdough is tasty, crunchy crust rustique baguettes like I used to buy them in France, the best amond croissants in Melbourne, rye bread like in Germany. 1:1. Awesome. Best European dark breads in Melbourne. Seriously.
p. l.
The sourdough had a nice thick skin and moist inside. The kids loved the cheese stick, buttery pastry with a hit of salt from the melted cheese. Of all the pastries I enjoyed the cinnamon escargot the most, but they were all delicious.
G. C.
Best French bakery in Melbourne, I could eat their croissants all day. The staff are super friendly, and their coffees were a life saver over lock down
K. M.
Had no idea croissants could be this good. Seriously next level, the almond chocolate ones are incredible. One for the bucket list.
Their breads are likewise life-altering. Get there by 12pm before it all sells out.
F. G.
The almond crossiant makes you forget the world is ruined.
C. W.
Gordon Street Bakery is a lovely little gem with a small but delicious range of French pastries, their almond croissant is something to rave about. The baker makes everything fresh himself and his passion is evident in the flavors. Some menu items pop in and out so check in regularly to try something new. The coffee is good, and seating is limited with 4 tables seating 3-4 people per table. Free water is available.
J. D.
Quality over quantity at this place. Love the croissants, will be back many times!
J. W.
This bakery smells good with a small but delicious selection of French pastries. Prices are lower than what you can find in the CBD. Definitely worth it!
H. P.
Always good, coffee and bread delicious.
M. H.
Only open Thursday to Sunday 7.30am to 12.30pm. Great spot for a coffee. Pastries are amazing. Half baguette only $2. Olive loaf has more olives than dough. Fabulous addition to Footscray
C. C.
Delicious French baked goods. I have adopted the habit of taking a pinch off the end of the baguette from the Parisians. QC! Coffee is available too. Get there early to ensure there is something left for you to buy! Follow your nose down Gordon Street to find this wonderful bakery.
M. G.
Almond croissants are like Paris in a pastry
P. A.
Selection of Sourdough loaves and French style boulangerie items in Footscray. The cinnamon scroll & almond croissant we're excellent, the white sourdough loaf was crusty and chewy, a delight. Not great ambience as a cafe, but come early and get the bakery items to take home for breakfast.
Some complain that it's hours are too limited and they run out of items too early. It is a bakery, not a cafe or restaurant. As in most aspects of life, you snooze you lose!
A. R.
Beautiful food, all of it. Sourdough excellent, croissants soft and tasty, but the real highlight might be their cheese stick. Dee-licous.
A. E.
Great bakery - always busy which is a great sign, but you can still get your breads and coffee quickly.
Y. S.
Awesome bread, fantastic sourdough!! AAA+
G. A.
Absolutely ridiculously delishhhhhhh!!! And so so reasonable in price $5.50 for an Almond Croissant 🥐🥐🥐🥐🥐🥐🥐
Get behind these guys and support them 🎈
If I could give them 10 stars ⭐️ I would
J. R.
Top notch baked goods! These croissants have gotten me through 6 lockdowns.
M. V.
as soon as i entered, the smell was like heaven! i ordered baguettes, plain croissants, choc croissants, almond croissant and cinamon rolls and the cheese sticks and everything was absolutely delicious, will be back again thanks a lot!
V. D.
Delish almond croissants and very friendly staff. Shame the bakery has limited trading hours.
J. S.
Excellent bakery.
Olive bread well worth a try.
Croissant/pain au chocolat/almond croissant/chocolate almond croissant worth even more.
Coffee best in the area.
J. W.
Thank you so much for the glorious snacks donated to get me and my colleagues across the line on this Sunday afternoon at the hospital. It was a real morale booster!
You guys rock!
From the Footscray Hospital Emergency Department
S. G.
Super lovely croissants and friendly staff. Had to wait outside but the line moved very quickly.
J. G.
very small and fun bakery on gordon street, chocolate croissants are my favourite from here!
S. C.
We buy a sourdough and a wholemeal loaf every Thursday morning. In most small households, this would last days. In ours, they're gone 24 hours later. I don't even need a topping for the sourdough - I just devour it as is.
L. S.
Best almond croissant in Melbourne... Better than Lune. The plain croissant was awesome too. Highly recommend this place.
M. Z.
best almond croissants, you won't be disappointed
M. E.
Omg, this is one of the best places to get bread and other French baked good. Coffee is great, service is awesome, and worth keeping in mind for all your bread and baked needs.

I went to 2 times on Saturday morning and both time are sold out at 11:30 when I was there.... so popular or make only small amount of quality products for a day.
I’m very dissapointed but I will try next time but earlier .
E.
Absolutely delicious bread and croissants. Very old school, they close when they’re sold out and there’s usually a line so get in early!
B. B.
