Unbelievable spread. The quiche was the best ever and the croissant in my top 5, flaky not so buttery, slightly sweet. Want to check the other goodies soon.. lucky it's just down the road.
M. S.
Melbourne’s best croissants and danishes. I can totally recommend Oven Street’s olive sour dough too. Weekly visits here have become a ritual for me and single handedly got me through lockdowns.
L. T.
You may be a bit put off by the queues that form in front (I know I was), but it is worth absolutely every moment.
They have amazing croissants, some of the most amazing sandwiches, and excellent bread on offer alongside smaller treats like danishes and quiches. This is one of Brunswick's hidden gems that is absolutely worth stopping in.
Their online ordering systems leaves a bit to be desired, but for the quality of product, it's hard to beat.

Wonderful!!! Crispy and light not overly sweet rhubab &walnut danish- perfect for my liking. Surprisingly good Kouigb Amann, perfect amount of caramelized top yet still soft and fluffy on the inside. Love.

I discovered this local bakery through newspaper and online articles and had to try. It did exceed my expectations by far. Their sourdoughs and other pastries are fresh and warm, delicious and generous in quantities for the price. Some may consider the staff slow in passing the bread upon payment, however, that is because they are trying to select the very best out of the bunch for you. Besides, patience is a virtue. The place now has some seats outside as well. I'd definitely be back.
T. W.
Wow, fantastic pastries and bread.
Never had a Kouign Amann before, the crisp caramalised toffee top was awesome.
We used to on-line order system, which worked well. Our order was ready at 11:00am Saturday morning.
Enjoy!

Ovens street is the best thing in Brunswick. Try the pies if you get a chance, but everything is outstanding.

Make sure you get there as early as you can otherwise the queue is redonkulous! Always worth the wait though...best croissant in the Brunswick/Brunswick West area
S. L.
Delicious bread and pastries, with a lovely team. The Turkish bread is amazing, and we always get the soy and linseed. If you want to avoid the lines, order online the day before...oh and there's always lots of good doggos to meet.
J.
This place does the best french baguette I've had in Melbourne ! I recommend to pre order online to avoid any disappointement. I have tried their croissants and their were really good too. The Jar of strawberry jam was so good ! No wonder there is a big line everyday! If your in brunswick do yourself a favor and try their bread !
M.
Fantastic sourdough. But hard to get walk up. Order online. The older bread they sell is the best value. 3.50 for day old loaf. I'm sold!

If we could give eight stars out of five we would. This place in soooo freakin' good. It's put smiles on all our faces a few times a week since forever and we just had this savoury corn danish that was from another dimension. So good. Best bakery on Earth. Go there immediately.
A.
Really Good bakers. Their online pick up system needs to be improved. It's frustrating to wait for your SMS/email confirmation for 5 hours expecting to eat it for breakfast. We received our text at 12.30pm just 30min before they close. This happened twice now.
E. S.
Really delicious bread and pasties. Only slight downsides are the slow moving line and fact you've got to wait to at least 10:30 am for Baguette.
R. H.
The truth is; this is the best bread in Melbourne. I dreamed about this bread before I even knew it existed. I missed this bread before I even knew it existed. 31 long years without Oven Street Bakery in my life.
One loaf from Oven Street and you will never again consider a bread-free diet. You will never again put a crumby loaf from coles in your basket. You will never again settle for anything but this bread.
My favourite loaf is the Soy and Linseed. My favourite sweet the Rhubarb Danish.
Online ordering is simple and easy. Delivery prompt. And waiting in line worth it.
Lastly, the bathroom. It wasnt open to the public with out asking - Standard fair for a small space business. Standard layout, clean and functional.
R. D.
I don't know how I didn't know about this place sooner but I have definitely been making up for lost time. The baked goods are incredible, the line never makes you wait too long (trust me, there will be a line because its worth it) and its got a great community vibe.

I went on a cold wet Friday morning. The queue was short and the mince tarts were heavenly. They didn’t have any donuts, so it looks like I’ll be heading back on Sunday!
R. M.
Ovens St have been one of the key places that have gotten us through the Melbourne lockdown.
Their incredibly delicious bread, decadent pastries (those rhubarb danish's!!!) and their incredible customer service have really given us something to look forward to each week. Thursday's have become "Ovens St ordering day" in our house, and we very much look forward to our Friday deliveries!
S. H.
Beautifully baked bread and best croissants I've had in a long time.
Definitely worth trying it!
O. M.
Arguably one of the better and best bakeries in Melbourne. Had a croissant which is better than most (and better than that store that specialises in it). Also had a baguette and it was so delicious on its own... definitely worth ordering in advanced for pickup and trying out other creations as well...
R. D.
Never seen such a contrast between what they sell and how they sell it, I honestly believe they have some of the best bread and Pasties in Melbourne but come on guys, your the only bakery in the world that opens up at 9am, normal people like to get there breakfast and bread in the morning and get on with the day.
Sometime we’ve been left waiting until 11:30 to pick up our order via your online app. It’s just not acceptable, people will eventually vote with their feet if you don’t bring you service in line with your product, if you did that you would be hands down the best in Melbourne
Something to think about.
L. I.
Awesome local bakery with great bread, toasties & sweets. Make sure to get in early if you're going on the weekend and bring a gold coin for the self serve filter coffee set up outside.
T. L.
It's okay, but really not good value for money. You can tell that they barely have competition in the local area. Servicing is really slow, which results in long lines. Maybe they like that to create hype, but there's no signs on anything, so it takes quite a while to get the perpetually stressed staff members to tell you what things are. Plus, they're not describing them that well, we spent $9.5 on a loaf called "walnut and fig", but it was basically a licorice loaf as it was jam-packed with anis seeds, which they didn't think to mention.
M. P.
Excellent products. Croissant, bread, and the donuts! Only downside is the queue
I. B.
There's nothing so enjoyable in this world as a tearing into a fresh Ovens Street pain au levain. Crusty, chewy, no need for butter or jam or anything else.
Order online or for the real experience, get in line like it's 1988 and you live in a Soviet factory town. Ку́шайте на здоро́вье!
G. G.
Best Bakery in Melbourne and worth every moment in the queue
R. D.
Best croissants north of the river, perfectly flakey and buttery goodness. The bread is also suuuuper yummy, crunch on the out and soft on the in, perfect for toasting. I also love the custard and jam doughnuts, the ration of filling to dough is definitely on the overly generous side.
S. O.
Favourite local bakery who bake truely delicious bread. Real sourdough from an artisan baker who knows what he’s doing. Lovely people run their whole in the wall stall. Worth waiting in the Sunday line. Their pastries, biscuits and sandwiches are also so delicious.
K. M.
Was told of this place by a family member, and was so glad we visited.
A fast moving queue with others collecting online orders.
Great bread and a delicious almond croissant, that was given at a reduced price as near closing time and I was short of cash.
Will definitely return soon.
M. v. L.
Very friendly staff, excellent quality baked goods and an accessible vibe despite the location. The sourdough is memorable as one of the best in the inner suburbs.
T. C.
Lovely little bakery window with a wide variety of pastries and bread. Definitely worth a visit.
J. R.
The best bakery in Melbourne: easy. Paris level loaves, great friendly service and good coffee.
D. T.
I dream about their bread... So tasty, most (if not all) their loaves are vegan. People who sell the bread must be bakers themselves as they are so knowledgeable about what they're selling. Best fruit sourdough bread I have ever had. But everything is good. Worth the wait on Sunday mornings!
A. K.
Amazing selection a bit on the pricey side but I do recommend a visit!
N. N.
Great pastries but very disappointing online pickup service which ruined the whole experience. Can work for people who are happy to have croissants for lunch instead of breakfast, and don't mind the fact that the bakery cannot be contacted in real time (no phone number provided, and no response to an email inquiry)
T. V.
Edit. I've updated my review as Oven Street Bakery now mentions on their website that some products come out of the oven a bit later than others which helps set the right expectations. Once they allow you to book a timeslot I'll bump it up to 5 stars.
Original review:
Let me start of by saying that all the reviews on the quality of the food are right. It really is that good.
That quality comes at a price though. A simple croissant here, while delicious, is the same price as at the many cafes a stone's throw away from here. Cafes they actually supply to themselves, where you are able to sit down and are served.
The price however isn't what made me give this rating, because something is worth what people are willing to pay, and going off the long lines you'll find here, people definitely are willing to pay. The rating is based on the process involved in buying.
You have two options. You can stand in line, which literally means standing on the sidewalk, as one by one customers are let inside to purchase. Which means that on a weekend, you can easily find yourself in a line of 20+ customers only find that when it's finally your turn, what you had wanted to buy is already gone.
The second option is to order online. With lines like described above, you would assume that more people would do that, but there's a reason why that's not the case. The process of ordering online is fairly simple, you select what you want, select the day you want it. The days don't have dates and you can only order a couple of days in advance. And then you wait for a text to confirm your order is ready. Sounds easy enough, but the issue comes from the fact that there's no time slots. You simply wait. Had you hoped to surprise your significant other with a nice breakfast? Well, it could just be that you have to wait until 12:30pm before you get your text. And showing up without a text is discouraged. You might just find yourself waiting for your order while you see people who simply waited in line, walk out with the same thing you pre-ordered.
It's difficult to tell if they're simply a victim of their own success or if it's part of the mentality that's becoming more and more common in Brunswick, where you as a customer should be happy that they're willing to take your money.
Again, the food is great and to a degree I guess it's worth the wait in line, but just as often I find myself going to a cafe instead where the food is equally good and equally priced, but where I don't have to jump through hoops to get it.
A. J.
I love their bread and treats. Top quality and taste. Coffee is self-service with coin donation (generous idea). Also good to see local businesses support each other (ovens, kines, homeone supply each other etc). Feel like a warm community space.
One star missing is the cashier is always lukewarm and service is quite slow.
P. R.
Everything this place does is awesome but the Turkish bread is a thing of beauty. Easily my favourite bakery in Melbourne.
J. P.
Great bakery! Line is fairly considerable but it's on a quite backstreet of Brunswick which is a nice place to be. There’s a barista from Kines (excellent cafe around the corner) making coffee out front and bringing it to people in the line. Usual suspects like chocolate and plain croissants, escargots and incredible sour doughs are executed perfectly. But they don't just stick to French classics, today I got a delicious Swedish cinnamon roll, there was a perfect looking baked lemon tart and a baked Polish cheesecake. Can’t recommend highly enough.
D. A.
Bread is exceptionally good (otherwise would have been rated much lower), but the service is ridiculously slow so a long line can build and doesn't move.
You're a bakery - give people their bread and take their money and then serve the next customer, I don't feel like waiting 20 minutes to buy something.
A. G.
Super fantastic sourdough & much better value than many other local bakeries.
R. G.
Go to for the best bread and bakery treats
P.
Gave me a free baguette which was kind of them. Very friendly service.
G. E.
No longer a secret tip, this bakery has amazing bread and pastries with the cue outside the door to prove it. Order online for pick-up or delivery to skip the cue.
B. B.
Patries and breads are delicious! Layout is terrible and ambiance is non existent lol. Staff can be hit or miss, sometimes grumpy and overwhelmed maybe? Other times nice. Either way the food is awesome!
G. C.
Amazing bread!! Love it
剛.
so cute dog named nelly border colly.(*^◯^*)and friendly staff. just couldnt find the phonenumber from google map.
E. B.
If you get here at the right time on the weekend, it's worth the wait for the fresh-out-of-the-oven delectable bread loaves and sweet pastries. Bring a good coin to enjoy a coffee while you wait/scoff.
N. M.
Amazing bakery. Had their croissants and my personal favourite is their roast chicken sandwich.
L. M.
Amazing. Some of the best pastries and doughy treats in Melbs....Go on a rainy day for less lining up. Though the counter area is small so always feels pretty crowded!
N. U.
Best bakery in Brunswick! The croissants taste like the one I had in France... I know big statement! :)
J. A.

A. C.
DO NOT GO TO THIS BAKERY. Too many people know about it already the queue sometimes is unbearable. Every single thing they make is the best I've ever had, stay away from the cheesecake it's MINE!!!
J. P.

m. s.
Best bakery ever. The pastries were amazing and the doughnut was right on point. P.s. the coffee was amazing as well 😊
V. R.
It doesn't matter what you buy here, everything is gonna keep you coming back for more.
A. J.
Their bread is excellent but the wait of thirty minutes wasn't. Maybe the sunny weather brought out people wanting croissants
M. S.
The wait in line at 9am on a Sunday is worth it. Do try their olive sourdough and fruit sourdough amongst other treats you can work off at the gym another time.
J. B.
