6 stars if I may! 💗Vanilla Slice💗 Friend bought us their Vanilla Slice (see photo in square) and they are soooooo good!! Like so soooo good. Creamy, smooth and not too sweet which is perfect for us. 💗Baked Cheesecake💗 Wanted to get their Vanilla slice in cake form (which they call it Mille Feuille) but it requires at least a day notice. So I went with their 2nd best seller… Baked Cheesecake and we were elated! Apart from the creamy-licious and well balanced sweetness, love the crunchy thin base with a hint of coconut. We topped with a couple of cherries and it was perfect for our pre-Christmas gathering. One of my friend who is a dessert lover approves too ☺️ 🧑🏼‍🍳Service🧑🏼‍🍳 Spoke with Jennifer on the phone and she was really kind and helpful. When we were in the shop, I got a bit of my Parisian fix with the French accent by one of the crew 😁 💰Value💰 Fairly priced imo. $7 for a vanilla slice. $50 for baked cheesecake Note that the shop is not too big (yet filled with so many goodies!!) and there were only 2 tables outside.

Sometimes there are some foods that are just too pretty to eat. This is one of those times. This delicious and sexy looking fruit tart from French Lettuce was impressive. Beautifully put together with a shortbread shell and vanilla cream, the whole experience was superb. The fruits were fresh and that fig was amazing. Definitely worth a try!☀️

Small, cute and underrated. This place makes an incredible baguette sandwich and good coffee. There isn’t much indoor seating except for some bar stools but you can sit outside. There is a lot of café food options to choose from which is always great to see. Also, the staff is very helpful and the dude has a crazy viking beard.

When you need to eat sweet treats you come here. And today it was for a vanilla slice known as one of the best in Melbourne. There are lots of sweet choices as well as some savoury pies to choose from. Large cheesecakes, mid ales right up to wedding cakes on offer. There are only a few chairs and tables inside if you wanted to stay and eat but in warmer months you can sit outside and watch the world of Nicholson Street go by. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Wheelchair friendly. Kid friendly sky. Good parking out the front. A must visit.

On a Saturday afternoon a steady stream of customers pour into this artisan partisserie on a quest for their delectable offerings. Reputed for their vanilla slice, the beautiful cakes displayed in the window and inside cater for weddings and special occasions. While there was a range of savoury pies, the only heated ones were vegetarian. That's a good enough excuse to choose two desserts - their famous vanilla slice and a baked cheesecake. There's a reason why the vanilla slice has been voted the best in Melbourne. A delicate top layer pastry dusted with sugar blends beautifully with the sensational pastry cream - light, balanced vanilla flavour that makes for happy taste buds. The baked cheesecake was moist, delicious and deeply satisfying, without the heaviness so common in baked cheesecakes. The tiny patisserie seats 12 intimately inside with a couple more tables on the footpath. I think the lady serving me was on her first shift as she could barely explain what the different desserts were, had to ask before she could answer anything and appeared really tentative. Her concept of cleaning the table was only to remove the dirty dishes, leaving all the crumbs from the previous diners. The other lady seemed much more helpful and approachable to her customers, so I will put that down to inexperience.

If you had that same flavours of pie in a mince meat "aswell" goodness me.....it'd be like, you go to Queensland and u have to visit movie world but a mince meat pie of that flavour would be ...... you gotta go to Melbourne to try one of French Lettuce's pies, like a tourist hot spot. Ok ... I have finally found the original source of the best vanilla slices in Melbourne. And I am grateful. I actually ordered a giant slab vanilla slice "cake" as a Birthday cake. It would normally have made up nine individual very generous slices, so the slab was about ten inches square. Pretty much as an afterthought, I also purchased a couple of tubs of what turned out to be probably the most delicious ever raspberry coulis to serve on the side. Well when I transported the cake box with its untouched (it was hard but I managed not to finger scoop in transit) "cake", we all ooh'd and ahh'd about the giant slice, and then tumbled about four punnets of glowing ruby strawberries on top of that mouthwatering slab and then after pouring that divine raspberry coulis over all we pounced upon and devoured it. And we intend doing it again. And again. PS Their other cakes and cake decorations etc looked seriously excellent as well. But my taste buds just keep stumbling to a stop at those amazing vanilla slices. I'm sorry I did not get any photos to show you the vanilla slab in its berried and coulis'd glory but we were too intent on our own gluttony to stop to take pictures. Version 2 I managed to remember to get shop window photos this time. And the cake decoration is both original and beautiful. Check out the photos. (The vanilla slices are still the absolute best.)

On a recommendation from a friend who had their wedding cake made by French Lettuce, we dropped in to meet the crew and after a tasting were instantly hooked. Nicole designed our perfect wedding cake from a couple of meetings, inspiration photos and back and forth emails and made the process so easy. The cake was spectacular, and tasted divine. Only regret was that there wasn't even more of it to go around! We would definitely highly recommend The French Lettuce to anybody looking for a custom cake. Thanks Nicole!

We met with Nicole at french lettuce to do our wedding cake. We sat down and were able to throw some ideas and pictures at her where she took them in and sketched up a design for our cake. We were so happy with how it looked and more importantly how it tasted. I'm not usually a person for wedding cake, but Nicole presented us with so many options. We went with chocolate and hazelnut. I was looking forward to having a decent serve from the left overs we had, but there were so many people who requested some more that we ended up giving most of it away. Thanks again.

Bought an amazing cake for my sister in law’s wedding from The French Lettuce. It not only looked good, but tasted phenomenal. It was a white mud cake with lemon filling in between each layer of cake and had French vanilla cream frosting on the outside. From enquiry, to ordering, to pick up, I was really happy with the service received by Cynthia and the staff. Loved it so much we ordered the same cake for our wedding. Was once again, delicious and a hit with all the guests. Ordered the cake online. Dealt with Hudson who responded promptly. He was efficient, friendly and fantastic to deal with. I also grabbed myself one of their famous vanilla slices, which was out of this world. A must try!

Nice cakes. The only downside is asked to write a simple "Happy Birthday" on a cake can not even do it, said you have to order it in advance. U need to be more flexible and think on your feet, just use some chocolate, butter cream or something and pipe it up, surely it's not that difficult to find in a kitchen that is mainly making and selling cakes.....

All this and very good coffee served by excellent attentive staff. I've been coming here for more than 30 years and it's always a treat. One of Melbourne's little gems, not hidden but worth seeking out.

Lune felt like an art gallery (and I only had cash), so I walked up the street to this excellent and far cheaper option. The sausage rolls were fantastic, really hearty and proper Aussie style, with bits of onion and tomato mixed into the mince. Donuts were perfect too. They gave me an extra sausage roll for free "because they're only warm at the moment". How's that!!

Best Vanilla slice in Victoria, yes much better than the one in Sorrento. Perfect crunchy crust, soft, light and creamy custard that's not too sweet. I have been here a number of times. Its a small pastry and cafe shop with a good variety of cakes. Quality is good with the best vanilla slice. If you have a coffee to wash it down may I suggest you ask for the large cup. The current trend is your standard cup has now shrunk to a size that you will be lucky to get 2 sips from. Beats me why this trend has developed because if we adopt the “McDonalds” standard cup at least you will be guaranteed a few sips. Really? Stop calling your those “small cups” as standard.

I had The French Lettuce do my wedding cake in August 2013. The cake was amazing, turned up when promised and OMG it was delicious. We had the Raspberry white chocolate mud with 3 tiers, and it looked stunning, the detail in the flowers was so beautiful and looked just like the reference picture we had supplied them with. A little hit and miss. Order two cakes from here on seperate occassions. First order of Orange flourless cakes was nice; tangy, full of orange flavour, not too sweet and very moist. The second try at a Lemon Tart was a little disappointing; little lemon flavour, pastry was too crumbly and fell apart, and too too sweet. I have tried the sandwiches here too, and I was not impressed. The ham sandwich looks and taste like one I can whip together at home with store bought bread. The shop could do with a clean too.
