Comments of Bourke Street Bakery Newtown

I have been going here since it opened in Newtown having previously fallen in love with their Ginger Brulee tarts. I was introduced to them by a coworker and if you haven't tried one, you need to now! Got to say the staff are always lovely and their products have never disappointed.

Pay $5 dollar for a pain au choc… that chocolate is so little in my opinion.. like really little. Quite rip off in my opinion.. otherwise I tried sausage roll before $7.50.. is quite ok
N. B.
Love the lamb and harissa sausage rolls. The only sausage roll in Sydney that doesn't need tomato sauce! The creme brulee tarts are excellent as well. If i was on a deserted island I could happily only eat these lamb sausage rolls for the rest of my life.

We went here because of the queue which was stretched out down the road! Items selling out quickly but also restocking regularly. Bought a sausage roll. The customer service was friendly and quick. Very small seating area - would sit about 5 people between the two tables. Great for grabbing lunch on the go. The sausage roll pastry was light and fluffy and one of the best pastries I've tasted. The middle was unusual - almost had a hint of aniseed, and was not a sausage roll filling i'd tasted before. I would eat here again and would recommend to friends.

This place always make incredible pies and croissants! The ginger Brulee tart was definitely an acquired taste but the shell it self was perfect.

Nowadays Burke st bakery has many branches and still producing one of best sourdough in Sydney. The daily special bread certainly is a catch, and had tried potato rosemary, fig cranberry. The Hurricane tart was not enjoyed simply BC I'm not too fund of the sweetness.

Nice place but the waitress said they don't have a croissant hence I should go to another cafe to get it. It not a nice way to market. However, I check the reviews before coming there. Well, I order the wagyu beef and it was okay sandwich.

Legendary breads and pastries!
Bourke Street Bakery is an essential stop for us every time we are in Sydney! This time we visited the Newtown outlet and it was every bit as good as the original Surry Hills store. We love the pork and fennel sausage rolls and the lamb, harissa and almond sausage rolls (with house made tomato sauce).

Absolute yum — try the beef, bacon and cheesy mash pie! I’ve always gone for the lamb & harissa sausage rolls but I’ve recently discovered the underrated, less spoken about pie 🥧. Also, the Ginger brûlée is great, but average croissants 🥐
J. G.
Great croissant and snail and kind service I got free extra croissant
G. M.
It is close to Newtown Station and you can grab a loft of sourdough bread 🥖 on your way to work. The popular items do sell out quickly. Unfortunately they don’t slice the bread loaf for you....

More of a 3.5 star. Just tried the Croissant and almond croissant. Almond one had a bit of weight to it and not what I’m use too but it’s not bad. Prices are what I expected to pay

Cute little bakery, small menu and good coffee.

Got the flourless chocolate cake today and OMG so delicious. There were also 2 staff members working (didn't get their names, one had a fab pink eyeshadow on) and they were soooo lovely! Great customer service, so warm and friendly x

Great smell of freshly baked bread as you walk in the door! The sausage rolls are great totally recommend along with the pies and sweets!

DON'T DO ANYTHING BUT BOURKE STREET BAKERY....
I'M THINKING OF MY GREAT NANNAS home cooking. I'm still left with the taste of PURE DELIGHT. BOURKE ST BAKERY NEWTOWN... ABSOLUTELY MOUTHWATERING SENSATIONAL. ALSO A BIG BONUS TO THE YOUNG MAN WHO SERVED ME
VERY WELCOMING EXTREMELY PROUD OF THE ENVIRONMENT he works. THANKYOU very much from the woman with the white GUCCI cap on. you are an ASSET to this business & your mannerism has helped my day from glum. Stuck in LOCKDOWN to WHAT a GREAT GUY GREAT ATTITUDE
PURE DELIGHT.... YOU'VE MADE MY DAY FUN.
courtesy goes such a long way right now when most peeps are not in a HAPPY place.
THANKYOU.... SERIOUSLY THE PIE WAS THE BEST 6.90 from a bakery so much better than the 7|11 who sell pies @ that price.
PLEASE ANYONE WHO ENJOYS BAKERY'S _GO A.S.A.P.

My Sunday afternoons are now dedicated to coming in to grab coffee and bread for the week, service is lovely and I always have a great chat with the girls at the front counter, it makes me never want to miss on Sunday afternoon coffee break. I am never disappointed, keep up the great work!

Can't get enough of the lamb sausage rolls, beef pies, croissants and great coffee. We've been going to bourke st bakery for years and its consistently great, which is hard to achieve these days. Looking forward to it this weekend already!

This place is absolute perfection. Best pastries in town, even better than a little Frenchman that's been baking since he could walk and does nothing but bakes in a small country town bakery 😂
Prices are appropriate and all staff deserve tips imo
I recommend to get their award winning sausage role, even channel 9 finally gets something right and agrees with that.

Nice selection of locally made breads, sour dough, wholemeal, rye etc. The staff although friendly do not appear that passionate. They miss out on a majority market in Newtown as they don't have any gluten free options and don't appear to have any interest in them which is a shame. Many folks go there seeking gluten free and end up getting bread for the family elsewhere. If they don't change with the times they'll unlikely ever get that popular.

Great place for all your bakery needs

Bourke Street Bakery your game is really slipping.
I came for a pork sausage roll today. You charged me for it but then didn't have any. So what did you do? Just stare me down and ask what I wanted instead, didn't you? Not cool at all. This is now the 5th time you have run out of pork sausage rolls. Is it that hard to keep you stock under control?
As for my coffee, you literally asked me for my name wrote it on the cup, but once you prepared it you called out 'regular latte for take away'. It just sat there. I looked at it. The other patrons looked at it. We had all had our names taken. Noone moved. I assumed it was the mine. You know why? IT HAD MY NAME WRITTEN ON IT. Did it occur to you to maybe call that name out? What did you think it was for? Thank you for my slightly burned nameless coffee. And btw it wasn't for take away.
Finally, that potato pie? Seriously not good. Like I just gave up on it. The coffee too.

I had such a nice slice of cheesecake here, so refreshing on a crazy hot day! Staff was lovely and gave me good tips on what to buy, coffee was one of the best I had in ages!
A. T.
Usually my coffee is great, but today after I ordered a cap and was given a latte, the barista simply sprinkled some chocolate powder on top and gave it back to me.. didn’t sit right with me.
C. B.
Served by the nicest lady her name was Holly 😊 will definitly be going back!!!! So nice when places have workers with great personality! Rare these days
V. R.
Pear and rhubarb muffins are compulsory, as are the ginger brulee tarts. Holy yum.
There are a few tiny tables, but it's more of a take away place.
V. A.
I've been there this morning for the first time. I had rye bread toasted with avocado and fetta on top. It was DELICIOUS!!! Friendly staff and nice coffee. Well done.

One of my favourite places to grab lunch and a coffee. They also make Wonderful fresh bread everyday. Try the pies and the pork and fennel sausage roll.

Highly recommend their lamb sausage roll, inspired by Moroccan cuisine. Tomato sauce is homemade too!
A. A.

Es un muy buen sitio para comprar un café para llevar y un poco de bollería. Está todo muy rico.

(Translated) It's a favorite bakery, but Marrickville or Surry Hill is more delicious than here.
