Good coffee and interesting selection of cakes and pastries. I’m slowly making my way through them all but sour cherry crumble is my favourite so far- amazing extrude and it’s not super sweet. They also do a few savoury pastries 👍

Great coffee, the barista who also works as a server was really nice. However, the front desk lady it is a bit rude. I ordered merengue lime pie and cookie and cream cheesecake. The flavour is not what I was expecting, the cheesecake it is a bit hard when supposed to be soft in the middle. Nothing spectacular for the price.

Delightful and accommodating place, superb cakes, and friendly staff. The food at this little dessert stop is elegant and flavoursome. Try the traditional Kurtosh - Hungarian Chimney cake that comes in a litany of flavours - with a coffee or a loose-leaf tea. If sweets aren’t for you, they do savoury pastries and other delicious specials to sample atop the counter. It's the perfect place to savour something sweet Kurtosh is very popular with the locals.

Seriously Kurtosh is the best bakery in town!! My all time favorite item would be the Pistachio Kurtosh with Nutella filling - not too sweet and the taste makes you want to keep eating it ❤️ Things I love about this cute bakery: 1. Service: Excellent service and very friendly staffs. They patiently answered all my questions about the pastries and the dietary restrictions. 2. Safety: They only allow 12 people in store at the same time (practice social distancing during Covid-19 pandemic), staffs are wearing face masks and only accept cashless payment (yes, please!!) 3. Price: Reasonable price and very yummy. Definitely will come back!

Adorable place! Great coffee, amazing cakes & pastries! Loved the music & the vibe. Friendly staff. With the cold weather, only the main door was open to enter, so we can't see much from outside, so it's very nice surprise when we get in and it's warmly decorated and welcoming inside. To make it even better it's open till 10pm! Will definitely be the chosen cafe to hang out whenever in the area!

Having been to kurtosh a few times, we were not expecting any unpleasant surprises when we dropped in at the one in surry hills. There is no dud per say in their offerings, pick whichever you fancy (sold by weight). If you aint sure, ask for a bite.. We grabbed their good ol tiramisu n brownies which are always a good fall back if you are bewildered by the choices. Ate those as we sauntered in the area.

Cakes looked delicious, but buying them was a bit awkward. Sold by the weight, no idea what a piece of cake weighs! They explained briefly but just cut it up and put on the scales, you really have no idea what your spending untill they tally it up at the end. Given the wrong flavour, I'm just not sure I'd bother again.

Looked like a lovely cake and coffee cafe'...service was ok, but cake is sold by slice not weight, why have the cake in the windows with a price, then charge you more after asking for a slice,....its ridiculous and just a way of charging customers more for the product...which is what happened to me, plus the piece of cake was broken and for Baked Cheesecake it had no taste and felt like and tasted like sponge cake?,..

I am a regular at this place and always have chai latte and sometimes the floureless chocolate cake or chocolate cookies. Absolutely best chai latte and tastes like chai. What can you improve upon? The new staff at night does not have consistency in making chai latte, if you could ensure consistency it would be good. The staff in the afternoon is absolutely amazing. Sometimes it tastes bland and lacks the flavor. Otherwise my favorite place to chill and have tea.

Love this Surry Hills outpost of Kürtősh. The chimney cakes are freshly made to order so be prepared for a short wait. The delicious unusual pastry is definitely worth the wait. As has been mentioned they have a range of cakes which are charged by weight - so it comes down to hungry you are or how much of a sweet tooth you have at the moment. They have a selection of gluten free cakes too. I haven't had the chance to sample the coffee as I have been enjoying the Iced Tea - a lemon myrtle tea with lime and mint. Definitely worth a visit.

Adorable spot to stop for dessert after dinner in the area. You may have to wait for one of their famous chimney cakes, but it's worth it. They have tables outside, so dog friendly, and if you don't by the window, you can watch them make the chimney cakes! The baked goods are delicious as well. Great decor and vibe. The incandescent lights stand out and give the place a warm and comfy feeling. We used a Groupon deal and it made it all the more worthwhile. Service was quick and extremely friendly. We were serviced by a lady named Kristin and she was very polite and accommodating. Hands down THE BEST cafe in Surry Hills. Crazy yummy cakes! Totally spoiled by the great selection on desserts. Wonderful friendly staff who offers to help us slice cakes to whatever small sizes we want so we can try more different flavors. How sweet is that :) Great vibe too. Opens till late on Sundays so that’s a huge plus in a neighborhood where many cafes close at 4 pm. Highly recommend!

This place smacked of franchise. From the tiles on the exposed walls to the matching low stools of the dining area, Kurtosh bakery Surry Hills felt too neat, too much of a money making enterprise designed by a committee and this detracted from the authenticity of the place. That's not to say the food wasn't any good. The first coffee was punchy and strong with a quality that whacked you over the head and said wake up. The second coffee not so much. The cakes are exceptional and I would recommend the coffee roulade or the triple chocolate. Kurtosh cafe is a shrine for cake lovers open morning till late every day. Worth a visit just ignore the commercialism.

Finally, I'm given the opportunity to have my cake and eat it by being able to buy cakes by weight at kurtosh. Too often, cakes sold in large hunks are too rich, too large, and too awful, but here they're most and moreish, and by choosing how much cake you'd like, you can sample them all. The chimney cakes are also great if you have the time - they are baked fresh to order, so there's a bit of a wait. But it's incredibly worth it, and the different flavours and glazes make it really fun. The atmosphere is relaxed in a surry hills cafe sort of way, and the staff - though not overly helpful - are polite and relatively efficient. Great place for afternoon tea

Hungarian chimney cakes (cafe name-sake) welcome you as you walk-in, with samples to try no less, but there is also a great eclectic assortment of baked desert treats ranging from the traditional to the more modern / unique. All items are priced by the gram (~$4.20), giving the opportunity (and risk to the waistline) to try different styles and flavours on each visit. The chimney cake is of course recommended, but so is the blondie and dark chocolate items. All items sampled have been on the mark for flavour and texture, generally being of a nice light variety (though cake specific of course). Open late, with good coffee flowing all night as well as very friendly service to match, a fantastic place to stop off after dinner or anytime throughout the day really. With a few locations are around Sydney now (but by no means a chain), you never too far from enjoying their treats.

Gotta love their desserts! Do try the cinnamon and walnut tea cake with the Inhale-Exhale infusion tea, it is the best combination! The decor is cosy. There's some room for improvement with the service, however.

I love that you can pick the size or your slice, but disappointed how expensive it is for average dessert. Bought a tiny little bit of tiramisu, cookies and cream slice and coffee for $16. The tiramisu had no coffee taste to it whatsoever. All cream and a bit of chocolate sponge. Should have just paid $9 to eat legit tiramisu at the Italian place a few doors down. Probably won't be visiting kurtosh again.
