Comments of Kinfolk

Don’t hesitate - order the side of bacon! I never thought a slab of cured pork would transcend you through time and space but it does! The place is super busy in the morning but it’s a testament to the friendliness of the staff, great coffee and awesome food! Make sure you pop in
V. F.
Yummy!!! Really yummy!!! I had the smoothie bowl and a cappuccino (4$)!!! Smoothie bowl was very delicious - a lot of fruits and homemade granola ($12) good value in my opinion! Really liked this place, although it could get very very noisy if it's crowded.
S. L.
Best soy flat white I've had in Melbourne. The dining area was quite noisy but that is to be expected when the place is so popular. The vegan toastie I had was simply delicious, I liked the little touch of sea salt on top. Very cozy albeit a bit tight sitting near the window. The dining experience was well worth the limited legroom.
B. C.
Went on a Friday brunch timing, no queue but the cafe was packed! The ambience was cosy but definitely busy. Ordered the pasta, seasonal soup with salad and the winter special drink 'Chill Orange Hot Chocolate'.
The pasta was awesome! It was nicely seasoned and tasted fresh. The seasonal soup was alright, looked a little oily in appearance but it was not too bad. Salad was okay as well. The real winner for me in this meal was the chilli orange hot chocolate. It reminded me of a type of orange flavoured chocolate I had in my childhood but the orangey taste wasn't too strong. Would come back just for this drink. It's a seasonal special, so I'm not too sure when this promotion will be over.
The volunteers were also really friendly and the place gives profit to charities as well.
E. H.
Much gratitude to Hiro and the Kinfolk team for the Miso Discovery Dinner. It was such an incredible experience that blew our senses away, especially the dessert, a highlight for many and the miso butter crackers (check out the photos). Hiro went to a great effort to creatively use a range of miso in the dishes and explained the history and all things miso. We all learnt something and thoroughly enjoyed the visual, smell and taste sensations. It was such a special experience for us. Massive thanks to the Kinfolk events catering team for creating such a beautiful night of memories and celebration for us at Sibling Cafe.
F. P.
We ordered 3 different variations of egg special. Eggs and vegs were beautiful, would love more contents though. Nice coffee. Friendly and helpful staff. +1 for supporting the charities.
L. J.
I really like this place. It’s very busy and hard to get a table a lot of the time, but it’s worth the wait. The menu is very diverse, there’s a lot to choose from. I had the pasta and it was delicious, full of flavor. My only wish is that they made the breakfast menu all day, as I often want to try something from that menu.
C. E.
I thought the whole “buy a coffee we give the profit to charity” thing super appealing. But the service was a bit disorganized and I can already imagine if the whole place was full of people how that would end up. I loved the coffee and the food was delicious no doubt. Would come back.
M. C.
Super busy at lunch, at the point that it becomes really loud inside.
The had an almond latte and it was delicious. I also ordered the smashed AVO which was ok...it comes with a fried egg but I ordered an extra one which came after I finished my food 👎 that is why I dont give 5 starts.
The service was good and the place seems lovely.
C. E.
There were many delicious breakfast options and a wide variety of hot drinks. I had the yummy egg special and a soy chai latte. The staff were friendly and helpful. The cafe had a warm and inviting atmosphere.
F. G.
Comfortable place to eatas it just in front of tram and train station. Service was friendly. Tried the mushroom risotto. The portion was pretty filling. It was a bit salty tough. The texture of the risotto was nice with ita creamy sauce and fluffy bocconcini.
V. L.
Enjoy a nice meal in here. Coffee's taste is strong and good. A little disappointment is the king fish is too small and filled with too much potatos.
M. M.
All floor staff are volunteers.
They redistribute their profits to charities.
I inspired to hear it from Aussie people and they serve also great coffee and seasonal food!!
R. L. (.
Great vibe.
I had a toastie - mushroom with an extra egg. Sandwich is quite generous. Coffee is great.
There’s also volunteer here to service you (which is great!).
Keep up the good work 👏🏼
T.
Taking into account it's a social enterprise cafe, run by volunteers - it's freaking amazing. If it was a commercial enterprise, I'd still enjoy it. I actually didn't know it was run by volunteers until I did some research afterwards. I just wanted a good lunch, and it delivered.
I had the parsnip risotto with boccocini, spiced cauliflower. It was so comforting. tasty and only $14. I was so full. I'll definitely be back, and I would highly recommend people come here for the good food, friendly service and the social enterprise.
M. N.
A cosy cafe with great tasting meals and hot beverages. That's a solid range of coffees and teas. Staff are friendly, they split bills.
z. s.
Excellent food and coffee. Perfect place to have a great meal and spend some time.
E.
Run by a group of volunteers what could you not love about Kinsfolk. Wait staff are super friendly, coffee tastes great and to top it all off food is great as well (lunch menu is a food choice!). Food is served quite quickly as well.
H. K.
Delicious food, lots of gluten free and vegan options. I had the coconut quinoa bowl which is both vegan and gf and so so tasty! Good coffee, quick service, and a great cause! Will be back.
E. D.
Really great experience and breakfast. The gruyere Tarte it is the best also the avocado toast. Friendly staff. Great coffe. Free water.
a. b.
✔Good Food
✔A little disorganized but very accomodating wait staff
✔Good Location, just across Southern Cross
✔Compact ,Buzzy,Edgy Vibe inside
✔Organic and fresh ingredients
✔Affordable food choices
✔100% of their profit goes to charity
✔Most of the staff are volunteers ( paid staff are chef, barista, house management)
S. D.
Exceptional coffee, really outstanding food and all for a good cause or two or three. What's not to love about this place? Seriously awesome!
E. C.
Absolutely love the concept but am a bit let down by the execution. Came here twice this week already and will definitely be back but the coffee really wasn't at the quality it should be even though profits get donated to social causes
Pretty average coffee and long waits even when there weren't too many people in an off peak time
In the morning rush don't be surprised with a 10+ min wait for takeaway
But that said love what they're doing here
In the vein of lentil as anything
J. G.
Awesome food. Simple and fresh. Amplified experience knowing the story behind this place. A must visit if in Melbourne!
a. a.
great comfy cafe.
order Salmon, dont like the toast
staffs are so nice!!
bought me a glass keep cup
cute store
S. O.
A small place tucked away on Bourke St. Loved the vegetarian approach and the ambience was perfect. Ordered the daily special of thai inspired rice dish infused with coconut milk and lemon grass (can't recall the name) .
The flavour was sublime, did not feel that I was missing out on meat. The sauce was rich and creamy, not too overpowering, and the vegetables were just right.
Quite packed, however the customer service has room for improvement .
J. H.
Coffee was really really nice. Pie is delicious but toaste is a little bit overprice.
A. H.
Really good quality food. A bit busy with some service a bit disjointed but it is made up for by being genuine. I saw some good initiative here. Obviously making a great effort and succeeding. There are so many cafes in Melbourne to choose from but this is one i would return to.
T. M.
Nice coffee. Good location. Easy to find and sandwich was good as well.
N.
I found this place while looking for a pleasant place to have lunch without wandering too far from my transfer point at Southern Cross station.
First thing I noticed was that the staff are incredibly friendly (I live in Sydney, so maybe that's normal here!). Second, the eclectic decor gives you lots to look at. Even when it was busy and a little loud, the atmosphere was somehow cosy.
The menu at a glance looked to have some nice gluten-free options. I settled fairly quickly on the beetroot risotto, and a housemade pear and ginger soda.
The risotto is a colourful dish in a large portion, which I couldn't finish. The rice was slightly undercooked for my taste and too salty, but otherwise tasty. The soda was excellent, and provided a nice foil to the risotto.
Along with a large takeaway chai for the train trip, the total bill was $23. I would eat here again.
L. J.
Such amazing food. Really great experience. Everytime I visit it gets better and better! Friendly quick service.
W. L.
Ordered the risotto and half/half salad. It was good and filling at an affordable price ($12 per dish).
S. M.
Quaint little volunteer run coffee shop across the street from southern cross station. Great rustic vibe, great coffee, and helpful, patient staff! I can’t wait to try some of their food next time I visit.
K. K. X.
Just next to southern cross station. Great food and vibes. Love the mushrooms! Good service too in providing us a place to put out luggage :)
A. M.
Good Place, good food but coffee was below the expectation.
M.
Friendly place with interesting decor, but a little too noisy for me. Good (not oily, plenty of brie) ham and brie toastie. Prefer stronger coffee.
K. F.
Loved this cafe. Great food & coffee. All profits go back to the community & the employees are volunteers. Great initiative.
G. S.
Big call but this was quite possibly the best breakfast I’ve ever had. I had the “good egg” special with added bacon. Amazing... as was the coffee and service 👌
S. A.
Great restaurant with daily specials - fresh delicious ingredients... and the waitstaff are volunteers! Great to stop in for a quick lunch, solo or not
s. s.
Great strong latte. The muesli bowl is super fresh. Would certainly come back...
D. S.
The light filled spaces are so gorgeous. We held a breakfast event in The Depot and everyone loved the breakfast and the space. Warm and welcoming on a cold winter's morning. We used The Subway for an evening event with the Melbourne City Precinct and it was perfect. The guests loved the history of the building and the catering.
T.
This is a great cafe on Bourke St near Southern Cross Station. This cafe is run by volunteers who get work experience here, which is a great concept in my mind.
I ordered a strong skinny latte and it was good, but missing some milk froth so it was more of a flat white. But the coffee had a nice flavour.
The service was excellent, friendly and happy. My next visit will be for lunch as the place was packed and every time I’ve been there the place has been packed w diners.
I’ve been missing out lol. This place is definitely worth a visit.
s. l.
Pretty good food if service was a tad slow. Had the ham and cheese toastie with iced latte. Decent portions at a decent price.
M. S.
Had the Good Egg Special! Super delicious and was so surprised with the cauliflower!! I added bacon but I wish I didn't. The dish is great on its own. Really love that it's a non profit cafe, profits go to charity and volunteers serve you! Such a beautiful and lovely environment with great service and great food.
L. T. L.
The Good Eggs Special is yummy, good quality food and service! :)
F. M.
So much to love about this place. Friendly volunteers, vegan friendly options, awesome coffee, cool interior. I wish they were open weekends, we saw quite a few people sadly gazing in the windows as we walked past Sat morning.
The fruit toast was so yummy, not dough-y, but still nice and thick. I think they said it was Dench’s :)
K. C.
Coffee is excellent!! And good food too. What else would you ask for?
R. L.
Very interesting experience. The food was delicious. It tasted very fresh, organic and locally sourced. Cooked perfectly. Service was quite good and very reasonable prices.
I highly recommend the vegan smoothie.
The decor is very unique, it has a sweet ambience and it is a short walk from Southern Cross Station.
A. S.
Great Community based Cafe in the Heart of Melbourne's Brooklyn End. Cool vibe and atmosphere with an ever cooler ethos of charity, donation and community service and empowerment. THe food is delicious - rarely is it boring and simple - even the salads have attitude and style that I keep coming back for. Love your work guys - this is an inspiring place.
M. P.
A busy little cafe which employs inclusively and diversely. Happy staff. Good tight menu with something for everyone for breakfast lunch or a quick snack or coffee. And good to be supporting and enterprise that improves society and makes Melbourne a better place to live.
T. T.
We went here for lunch. Place was quite packed but we managed to get seats. Customer service was great, ordered beef brisket sandwich and guess what?? It is amazing. Worth every penny guys! Only $12.5 packed with flavours, caramelized onions, beef brisket and some gherkins. Totally recommended. I will be back for more. Good job kinfolk!
A. (.
A great little cafe, right where you need it! Good coffee, a great menu with regular new additions, and all for a good cause.
The menu is very farm-to-table styled, but with a lot of creative flavour combinations and top-notch presentation. The coffee is consistently good, and well worth the short walk from Southern Cross even for takeaway coffee.
On top of this, the cosy atmosphere and friendly staff make this one of my favourite coffee nooks in Melbourne.
S. S.
Kinfolk is a charming, comfy gem. The staff are lovely, the coffee tasty, and the ambience perfect for a catch up or simply a coffee and a book. The fact that it is a social enterprise just adds to the good vibes. They serve great fruit toast too.
C.
Great coffee and breakfast! My new place in Melbourne to dine..
K. G.
Loved the three-cheese toastie and the bottomless batch brew coffee was delicious. There's not a lot of variation in their menu, but I understood that most stuff on it were great.
g. m.
Coffee was decent, floor staff volunteer and the profits go to charity, well done Kinfolk! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽🙌🏽☕️🕺🏽

Kinfolk has a warm and friendly ambience. From the moment you walk in you are greeted with a smile and it gives you the feeling of home. The food is just delicious and the service is first class. You have to try the maple bacon for breakfast. Keep up the good work. I'll be back again.
J. B.
Kinfolk always produces great food, with a simple but wholesome menu. Coffees and juices are also delicious and made well.
The cafe addresses social inclusion issues through it's support of various charities and it's volunteer network.
Well worth a meal or a coffee to support this very worthy cafe.
S. T.
The atmosphere of the place is really relaxed and inviting, perfect for enjoying a coffee. Coffee tastes great and milk is foamy and smooth. Also I had the mushroom toastie, it was fresh and delicious and generously packed with mushrooms. The manager was super friendly and clearly passionate about her business.
T. M.
Great concept, downside is the busyness, always hard to get a table. Given it’s a social enterprise I would have thought a vegan menu would be in order, although there are options. Cheaper coffee if you bring your own cup.
M. K.
Came here at the recommendation of a friend and I'm glad I made the trek. Not only were the staff amazing and welcoming despite them being volunteers on busy lunch days, with proceeds going to support charities, but the food and coffee was amazing. I had the risotto, which is from a menu that changes daily, and I wish the plate never ended. I don't normally give five star reviews but this time it's actually worth it.
S. G.
Funky bustling cafe that has an amazing menu that while small in size is big in flavour. Each of the dishes are excellent. The beetroot risotto is a ripper. The vegan smoothie is also a delicious accompaniment. To top it off all proceeds go to charity. Eat well and for a cause! Highly recommended
M. J.
kinfolk cafe is the best place to go on date because a few days back I went there. I ordered pizza and guess what? It was amazing! worth to buy it. The ambiance and staff were so good. I recommend you to go for breakfast and lunch.
V. B.
This little cafe is amazing, they make use of the space with plenty of seating and great decorations. The coffee is superb and such an interesting menu.
A year later and the food and coffee is still amazing. Definitely a must try and with the support they offer to charities your helping a worthy cause.
D. E.
Lovely coffee shop championing a good cause. Consistently great coffee and the menu is delish
J. K.
Loved this spot. Small and communal feel with beautiful coffee and amazing portions. We got the beans and the special eggs which were hearty and warming. Just enough chilli in the refried beans, and the poached egg just soft with an exploding yolk. Only downside is no WiFi, but actually that was cool because it made us notice the doorframe tables and little details on the walls. Super yummy!
S. M.
Great food! Good prices and good location
J. V.
Kinfolk was a nice place to have a meal during my short stopover in Melbourne. They have a nice little deal where volunteers serve you drinks. It is very busy here at lunch time. Try and time your visit for an early lunch or brunch, as it was a little too loud at lunch. The long black is okay, and I recommend the pappardelle pasta for a quick meal.
C. C.
A wonderful cafe. Totally ethical, sustainable and eco friendly with a high conscience. The food is prepared fresh and the coffee is very good. There are limited tables and chairs here so often take out is the option. Lovely friendly staff with good old friendly service.
S. T.
Really really good business breakie. Fantastic coffee, both decaf and normal. I had the vegan smoothie bowl 👌🏼👌🏼 with gluten free oats, absolutely super, and my colleague had a sourdough toastie which looked awesome. Even better, it’s all for charity. I’ll definitely be back!
D. B.
This isn't just another cafe here to serve expensive Melbourne style hispter coffees and provide a space for your latest macbook ultra XXL premium++. The profits go toward the community and the staff were volunteers (if I understood it correctly). It also seemed that they tried to include members of the community who might struggle to gain employment elsewhere due to negative stereotypes. Giving them an opportunity to improve their skills and gain meaningful work experience.
E. B.
Great service coffee and amazing bacon !
N. M. (.
Absolutely nothing to fault. Very much enjoyed the freshly made meal and the service was perfect. Noisy? Well this is typical for AU. When I moved down under from Europe that bothered me a lot, but now I guess I’m used to it as there aren’t many quiet places to enjoy a meal and a talk to your partner without screaming 😂
J. N.
This place is always my go to when coming to Melbourne & hopping off at Southern Cross station.
Super constant coffee & food is always good! They’ve always kept quality up with the volunteers that serve there. Excellent business model.
J. K. S.
The staff here are so cool! Such a great cause and the food is full of flavour.
J. V.
Beautiful iced latte and even better because they have almond milk. Great vegan and vegetarian options. I had a fragrant and filling green veg curry and my friend had a mouth watering beetroot Quinoa Salad. Would definitely come back here :)
R.
Great people, great food and good vibes. Just had the king salmon which stacks up to any of the fine dining options around town... believe me I've tried them all! Awesome meal served with a smile from a loving heart... what more could you ask for?! As others have said, can feel a bit disorganised but keep in mind they are all volunters and its all not for profit. That said, it just adds to the charm of the experience. I'll definitely be back.
K. K.
Kinfolk never disappoints! I’ve been visiting for years now and it doesn’t matter whenever I come or what I order: the food is always delicious and service friendly. I recommend the vegetarian curries and chai lattes. There’s construction happening right outside now so the outdoor seating is limited and the space is a bit noisy. Looking forward to visiting again when it’s finished.
S. S.
Delicious coffee, great version of avocado smash - w egg and delicious crunchy dukkah. Great staff effort - learning and agreeably dealing with a busy lunchtime. I always have a great time at KinFolk.
L.
Consistently polite, consistently make fab coffee and their muffins are the best I've had. They have a super yummy jam in the middle like a dognut - pull it apart and dip away:-)
S. M.
Kinfolk is a fantastic place to get a quickish lunch to sit and eat with delicious food and a great drinks selection. The staff are all very friendly and courteous and the meals are tasty and fresh. There is a mix of Asian/Indian/Australian cuisines. The only downside is that it can be hard to hear inside the venue and it's often crowded. There is some limited seating outside however.
L. S.
It's a really popular place - you can tell from the crowd that comes with their friends, workmates for not just coffee and cakes, but also for meals.
As a tourist with 0 ordering experience on my own (lol) outside Indonesia, I love friendly workers.
AND THE CAKE IS DELISH. PERIOD.
J.
Great coffee shop, that serves a great cause of social inclusion.
This place does great coffee.
Those that dont know this place also runs to donate 100% of its profits to social causes, and the place is staffed by volunteers.
P. B.
Delicious coffee, kind friendly staff, important causes. Volunteer staff mean proceeds go to charity. Only place you can go and put your caffeine addiction to good use!
T. S.
Awesome experience here, the staff were very friendly and the menu very interesting. I was pleasantly surprised at the high quality, given its staffed by volunteers. Some of my money going to a good cause at the end was the cherry on top of this scrumptious pie.
H. H.
LOVE the subway space! Beautifully presented, delicious food and friendly staff! We had such a great event that we didn't want to leave!
B. P.
The service was incredible, it was obvious that they enjoyed what they were doing and believed in the product they were selling. The venue was nice, busy but still very cosy. The location is good being just by southern cross. Foodwise it was delicious I would recommend it to anyone as it has a variety of vegan and vegetarian options. The coffee and drinks were at a good standard for Melbourne cafés. Overall a great spot for a coffee or brunch.
They sell smashed avos.
G. F.
Absolutely delicious food, super nice coffee and a lovely atmosphere. One of the nicer places to have lunch that I've been to in the city.
d. D.
Stepping into the cosy cafe with welcoming staff members was a great first impression. Coffee was good, and the risotto was a generous delicious portion. Will definitely return again :)
T. L.
Kinfolk is has got that classic canteen feel, serving up delicious seasonal, local, hearty fare to people that have traveled far and wide. The coffee is great too. It's worth noting that this placed is fueled by volunteers, and the Kinfolk mission gives back all profits to projects, based on their coffee bean voting system! this social enterprise is giving back to the people that need it most. What's not to like about Kinfolk?!
w.
Love the concept. The only thing is that they could operate longer hours.
T. Y.
Had to check in for a coffee when i read the article on kinfolk being a social enterprise.
Nice atmosphere:
operational signages could be positioned better to indicate Takeaway orders or dining at the place itself.
First-timers like us can orientate ourselves better with clearer signages.
(We were queuing in the wrong queue, when we wanted to do a takeaway, but signs were blocked by customers & server was busy as well)
Nonetheless, we will check out the food again when we visit. Great work and good stuff!
A. M.
Lovely spot with plenty of vegan options.
All for a good cause too! It was very busy but the food looked amazing and it had a great energy.
Worth a visit.
D. W.
Great coffee for a good cause but very noisy and disorganised. The single reason I stopped getting my morning coffee here was because it was so crowded and busy, with staff and customers stumbling all over each other while people wait for take aways and others organise to eat in.
T. S.
Just happened to be walking past, looking for something to eat. Saw it was busy inside. Joined the queue. Was not disappointed with the food when it arrived. Best ever risotto I've tasted. Will return when back in Melbourne.
L. V.
Getting addicted to this small cafe. Run by volunteers and providing amazing food. 2nd time here and will be returning just to try more of their food. Daily soup changes perfect for the winter days.
E. I.
I'm in love! Beautiful menu with fantastic coffee. Had the vegan bircher and it was fantastic, the seasonal fruits made it perfect.
j. l.
Went here for breakfast at 7.30 am. Good coffee, good portion, and defs recommend adding bacon on the side. Good friendly staff too!
W. W.
This is the kind of place that unassumingly inspires. I was down from Sydney and popped in for breakfast. I had the AVOCADO SMASH with KUMARA, CHILLI OIL, GOAT CHEESE, PUFFED SORGHUM & EGG ON SOURDOUGH with SMOKED SALMON . Magnificent. The flavours were so well complemented and balanced and the ingredients were so fresh. I also had the STONEGROUND MATCHA, which was outstanding - and I drink a lot of matcha. 5 stars. Not to mention the service is A1 - super friendly and attentive. 6 stars.
D. S.
I went for a coffee but their coffee menu it's a little bit limited. However, the space, decoration and service are very good, it's a cozy place to catch up with friends.
T. F.
Never tried the food but coffee is the best in Docklands. Staffs are friendly n nice. Highly recommended.
A. L.
Cosy interior, good food and attentive staff.
M. S.
What an excellent vibe! Just the right place for a great breakfast and coffee in the morning. Avoid the mall food at the nearby Southern Cross station and come here instead. Best thing is it is all for a good cause!
J. P.
Every time I enjoy the 'Risotto of the Day', I try and try to extract the secret to such an intense base. The secret is held tight! From beetroot, dill and walnut risotto; to cauliflower with cacoa nibs and nettle; to amazing salad choices that change daily, I love this place. And of course, the philosophy behind it all is very worthy of support.
A. K.
Kinfolk is a place I would go back to, even though their (breakfast) menu is not quite to my taste and relatively limited. Why? It's run by volunteers, buys local produce and gives away all profit to charities. Try to get here for at least one meal when you're in Melbourne. It's a good cause.
M. L.
Great vibes, delicious food, good cause - keeps me going back. I am a huge fan of the curries - the menu is revolving but I haven't had a bad one to date.
A. W.
Awesome culture, great social enterprise, lovely decor, great service but the portion size was a big dissappointment.
Great for showing off Melbourne food culture but avoid it if you're hungry.
N. S.
One of the good cafes in Melbourne. Small place but not crowded usually. Good place for couples. Usually visited by family and friends too.
P. S.
Very nice food and even nicer service!
J. P.
It's not often that I'm at this end of town but this is some of the best coffee you're likely to find in the area. Welcoming, friendly atmosphere too.
M. L. D.
The staff was lovely. I had the Beetroot Risotto and it was amazing. Excellent food for great price. I'll definitely go back.
T. S.
Could not recommend a better function space for business or personal events. The team were really professional throughout the whole process (and super lovely to boot). Will definitely be returning.
C. W.
LOVE THE PAPPARDELLE PASTA it looks amazing and tastes delicious worth a 5 star! Definitely recommended!
Good work chefs!!!!
N. B.
Really lovely atmosphere and amazing staff who are so friendly! A great variety of options for a really reasonable price. Made my trip to Melbourne extra special and would highly recommend!
J. N.
One of the best coffees I've had, perfect milk to coffee ratio. Breakfast took way too long to come out though.
S. W.
Amazing warm welcome from the staffs! Love their sincerity! Food is awesome and good to support this place as they are providing training for employment opportunities.
A. R.
Had the smashed avo because I know I'll never own a home. It was awesome, grapefruit instead of lemon juice great idea. Coffee was on point. Wish the toast was bigger tho fam.
S. T.
The food was good, service was on time and the place had good vibes. The coffee however didn’t meet up to expectations.
B. T.
Awesome coffee, good food, and all proceeds going towards a social project. It's an anti-establishment / libertarian wet-dream (Welcome to Melbourne!).
The cafe is basically a social business where all the proceeds go supporting social project, so basically you're making an impact on the world rather than making someone get richer.
Drink coffee, change the world?! or if you do an interesting spin on the WWDC 14 slogan you could say "Write the code, Drink the coffee, Change the world".
The environment is very arty and quirky (typical of Melbourne style or the style you'd find at most Korean run cafes), and the food and coffee was good.
The staff at kinfolk are mostly volunteers too, and have interesting stories to share too.
Location wise, it's close to Southern Cross Station, so it is very easy to get to from just about anywhere in the city (or from out of the city).
T. G.
Nice little eatery. Food was pretty good, but waited until I ordered something before saying they didn't have it and one of our party didn't get their food.
M. L.
Fantastic coffee in a great atmosphere. Went there for the first time this morning. Cafe is generally busy (in the mornings) but the coffee is definitely worth the wait.
D. M.
Love this place. Great, diverse menu...always well executed & great coffee. Try the coconut quinoa porridge!
A. S.
Awesome coffee and breakfast! Can't rate it highly enough. Service was great too.
Best coffee I've ever had in the cbd.
M. K.
Slow takeaway service, a coffee blend that was too rich for my taste, and a twee atmosphere that I found a bit grating. The place is a charity, but personally I would rather go to a professional cafe and donate separately.
A. N.
Breakfast was great. Coffee a little cold and service a little slow, but it was 8:30 am in Melbourne so the place was pretty busy.
A. O.
I really like this place. Good food, served by volunteers. Vegetarian options but also meat. V good for an informal business lunch.
A. B.
Love the atmosphere and the sounds that emanate around a great choice in music. Food and coffee fresh and available and thanks very much for the time..ticks by a little slower in here..like a heart rate.
P. M.
Love it. It's a real homegrown feel about it. The big old wooden floors. Retro music... nice hot coffee and toast for breakfast. Will be a regular here!

The scaffolding outside the building couldn't mask the popularity of this much-loved spot. Staffed by volunteers with profits going back to charity, the place serves wholesome dishes making the most of seasonal ingredients.
I had their version of the Thai Green Curry today with eggplant, lentils, potato and coconut cream served on a bed of brown rice and a Pappadam. Simple but rich in aroma, taste and texture, this was a filling and satisfying dish. The hot chocolate was the kind I appreciate - not too sweet but energising for the tastebuds.
An eclectic staff of volunteers look after you in a setting with a vintage feel and interesting wall art, topped by very high ceilings. It's a place I return to again and again for a good experience.

Local volunteers do the work and profits go to charity... That should be enough right there!! But the food is actually really good too! I am in love with the mushroom and cheese toastie for lunch, the coffee is quite good.
The breakfast fare is fairly straightforward but quite nice also. And you would expect the service to be a bit hit and miss, but I have found it to be consistently good.

(Translated) Great restaurant for breakfasts and coffees, with an odd management of service staff. Tried for breakfast for two without a reservation. We were immediately greeted with great kindness, even if most of the staff who work and who will serve you are volunteers! Yes, also check out their website for more info. Excluding the service staff policy - perhaps a bit clever, not easy to understand and in any case transformed into a marketing tool - the food is very good, fresh and freshly prepared with an open kitchen. I opted for a continental breakfast, but the desserts are also excellent and homemade. If you happen to be a good barista (this is politics!) The cappuccino is also excellent. Furnished with a lot of originality, the place offers a warm breakfast experience with typical Australian dishes. Has bar and tables. The service is fast and courteous! Recommended for a breakfast with different possibilities of vegetarian, vegan and gluten free dishes. Highly recommended for food.

(Translated) A cafe that has been very crowded since the morning. It seems that the takeaway coffee is crowded, so it's a good idea to go all the way to the back and tell the clerk how many people you have.
The food was delicious.
Cappuccino wasn't hot, so next time I'll order it hot.
