Comments of Le Souk

The Algerian paella here is a different variety to the standard Spanish paella that I've had over the years. They make them look quite appealing and I prefer this paella stall to the other one at the markets. Definitely worth a try. Yours truly @fooderarri
A. P. A.
Wonderful!
Not only was the owner an absolute legend but the food was beyond any expectation. We had the vegan paella which they prepare fresh daily, and little did we know that it was going to provide such an explosion of flavours as well as an amazing balance of spices. I would have this for lunch every day.
The rest of the menu provides an ample selection of vegan and vegetarian dishes as well as animal protein based ones, so heaps of possibilities.
In short, just stop wandering. This is were you want to be.
100% Recommended.
S. H.
Served with a date and smile, the food is amazing, fresh and cooked for enjoyment. On a busy market day, the service was a little slow, but the taste spice and food presentation makes up for the slowness. You can buy the spices / sauces that go into the meals. Take away is ok too.
H. L.
Covid times: only doing outdoor dining and takeaway food - we can still eat out safely 🙂. Takeaway lunch from @lesoukadelaide - a great option for takeaway when you're at @adelcentralmarket for groceries 😜😜.
.
Algerian paella with chicken: pretty decent paella! I like the charred bits, and the flavours were great! It's a bit different from Spanish paella, but still quite tasty 😊.
A. A.
Algerian paella for lunch today. Beautiful and delicious. Very lovely people making and serving delicious food. Strongly recommend.
R. C.
Best paella I’ve ever had and I’ve been to Spain!!! Exceptional service and I’m so keen k try the other dishes. Malcolm Turnbull apparently has been here twice so it’s saying something

Le Souk is a very warm and welcoming restaurant in the lively Adelaide Central Markets. We were met with a complimentary date to try, which is a great way to bring passing people in to look closer at their menus and food cooking right over the counter.
The tagine is very warming and delicious, with sweet prunes that go well with the tender meat and fragrant spices. It also comes with a side of super light and fluffy lamb cous cous, that contrasts well against the sweeter tagine with the salty buttery flavours. I also got the chickpea salad, which was slightly sweet from raisins, which accentuated a nice cinnamon taste.
They also serve coffee, which I did not get, but it smelt like it would be amazing.
A. H.
Adelaide is a city with not many different choices for food. Among the few Le Souk , Algerian food is one anyone should try. A little restaurant in the central market with a few tables to sit and dine. Halal food is served for those who are concern. Worth giving it a try.
A. K.
Had the Algerian sausage baguette, some paella and mint tea. Absolutely excellent. Sausage had a nice coarse mince, the sauce had a beautiful slow heat and the baguette was perfect. The paella was perfectly spiced, the rice was cooked just right and had a touch of preserved lemon. Mint tea was strong and very minty. A+ all round.
A. K.
Went here a couple of weeks ago and tried the paella and lamb tagine plus some spices and the sweets. Everything was great and you cannot go to the Adelaide markets without a date from here. I will bring the Dinar next time!
K. Z.
What an experience!
Food and quality match the price ♥️
The owner was outstanding and made us feel like we were their biggest spenders even though we only had lunch!
We will be back for sure, would recommend to anyone walking by looking for a good feed.
J.
Walking through the market looking for somewhere nice to eat lunch. So glad that I found Le Souk. Brilliant. Warm hospitality with a welcoming date to prepare you for the meal. Lentil soup, chicken paella, chachouka merguez, lamb couscous. Brilliant, bold and beautiful flavours, well cooked, warm customer service and very speedy. What else could anyone want? The chicken paella seemed to be popular. The best rice I've found in a paella. Glutinous, bit salty but I'll take that it was because they packed in so much flavour. Very happy with the meals.
C. J.
Would I go again ... yes in a heart beat. It was a wet Saturday morning and decided to visit central market. The owner was so genuine in his hospitality. Food yummy. The paella was ready around 09:45am on Saturday for those who want to go there for that particular dish !!!
J.
Great food and service. Will definitely come back to try other menu items.
R. B.
The food here was tasty, well balanced flavors and excellent value for money. Service was fun and engaging. Will take all my friend here and go here again myself. Very memorable..
K. P.
Very nice authentic cosy vibe at this eatery within a great market to walk around! Traditionally made couscous with a few good vegan options, and friendly service. Fancy spices and spice blends for purchase too.
D. M.
What a delightful dining and service experience in the heart of Adelaide’s gorgeous central markets. My breakfast started with the owner asking if ‘I’d like a date’. I was completely caught off guard until he proceeded to offer a plate of dates and invited me to sit down. Friendly service, amazing menu items and of course the food and coffee is delicious
S. K.
Chicken Paella was amazing. $17 for a big bowl. 🤩
M. S.
A truly amazing food experience.
The Chakchouka is magnificent and the service is super friendly.
The barista experimented on me with different secret ingredients in my chai latte, and result was a perfect pairing with my food. It was like having my own cocktail barista! Must try when in Adelaide ⭐ ⭐⭐ ⭐⭐
M. B.
Absolutely delicious, fast service, quality service, will be back!!
K. W.
Algerian eatery located inside Central Market. They serve very good breakfast, lunch, sweets, coffee and tea (mint tea with roasted pine nuts is a must try). The owner, Azou, is very friendly and hospitable. He always like to date or start a conversation with his customers by offering them a piece of dried date. I love their lamb cous cous and harissa as a condiment to go with it. I also normally add to the dish with a piece of their delicious merguez sausage. A very hearty and comforting meal especially during cooler days. Sit along the bar area and you can see food and drinks being prepared and also have a chat with the owner.
N. L.
Such comforting food, especially the Daily Paella!
Will be back for more!!
Keep up the great work guys.
N. G. B.
Coming in with girlfriend yesterday. The staff is friendly and invite us to try several snacks for free. And introduce us to French African food. The paella is well seasoned and the couscous is well cooked.
K. H.
This place is so charming. Sit at the bench and watch the young chef whip up your meal. Kudos too for making my girlfriend's meal first even though she ordered second. The food delicious! Will be back.
T. B.
We tried the lamb couscous and also the lamb salad. Lamb was slow cooked for 6-7 hours and is very soft and tender. The wait staff are very friendly. A little pricy but a good lunch.
D. B.
Wonderful breakfast spot!! The team were outstanding, so personable! Coffee was delicious and the food was outstanding!!
J. P.
Must visit for couscous and Orignal Paella. I had lamb and chicken and the taste goes beyond imagination.
R. R.
They have the best paella in Adelaide. It's so delicious and you could either dine in or take away. They'll also cater.
The customer service is excellent and you'll be greeted with a "date" (food ;) ).
Adding to my previous review:
We visited again in March and had one of their breakfast options and it was just out of this world. Loved it!
M. C.
Another lovely breakfast yesterday. I tried the beef version of the bubbling slow cooked eggs. Amazing. Kids had the sunny side eggs with lovely hummus and tabouleh. Must come in later and try the paella.
A great "date"!!
S. M.
The hospitality of the owner is 5-star one. The food is fantastic and mint tea is exceptional. Lamb and chicken coscous are divine!
D.
Loved the ambiance, service was 6/5 as I got the chance to be entertained by the owner. I’d recommend their famous Chicken paella, and Lamb couscous
E. K.
Amazing Algerian place in the middle of busy central markets. Owner is always ensuring the customers satisfaction & the place itself has a great vibe. Well done on chicken couscous!
A. i. e.
as everybody already known, the hospitality here is good.
But I think the owner is too “service from the surface”:I asked my chai for less sweet level like 30% sweet, and he told me he would not put any suger inside.
When he gave it to me,he said it would be the most special chai I ever had.
1,it was mot special to me,I was in India for one month
2,it was still very sweet,I though it would be not sweet any more, but I even could see the un-melting sweetness stuff on the cup bottom, maybe thats not sugar, but should be honey or anything sweet and has calorie…
the cappuccino is so so,but u wont come here for a impressive coffee.
I came here for the Chakchouka~and it did like my imagination, just a little oilly for me~I could feel the spice inside, but with a little more salt is more delocious. I was good, but not deserve to come on purpose.
If u like baked egg as me,u will like it I think.
I am a authentic foodie,so the food and drink quality r much more important than “embarrassing joking”
S. O.
Great customer service. Food is quite good. The tagines taste fresh.
Quantity is on the smaller side, had to add on extra choice of protein.
A. A.
Friendly service, fantastic food
Great area
A. M.
Good food & good vibe. Authentic & sophisticated Algerian (North African) dishes in Adelaide.
R. P.
Amazing veggie chakchouka and some of the best coffee I've had in Adelaide.
D. K.
The food is great and the service very personable and organised. I come every Saturday for breakfast. I have not had anything from the menu that I wouldn't recommend. The Chakchouka and soup are my usual goto's. The lamb couscous is great for something a bit more dinner like. Sometimes they can get busy but they tell you when you order if there is a delay and seem to get it right.
L. A.
Amazing food each time. Spice mixes and ingredients on sale are excellent quality. Very vegan friendly. The spinach and truffle couscous is phenomenal.
B. B.
Le Souk catered for a birthday party I went to recently. Delicious food cooked fresh on the premises and served with a smile. Professional no fuss approach that made everyone relax and enjoy!
J. L.
I had a Very good lamb couscous.
The guy is very friendly.
I definitely recommend this place!
S. Q.
Excellent Algerian food here. Owner is very warm and friendly. Their chai tea is to die for. Must try for visitors to Adelaide.
J. A.
"Bonjour Monsieur et Madam." If you don't love this place when you go, you'll never love anything life has to offer. 'Would you like a date?'... if you don't get the reference, you have never been. Hit up the Paella and have a pot of tea for the show or just enjoy damn good coffee with a smile.
G. D.
Absolutely fabulous, I never been 'dated' like that before.
D. Z.
Flavours were amazing. Pitty we had to wait for over 15minutes and remind them we were still waiting only to be served COLD Paella, not warm... completely cold.
I. S.
We were glad to have stopped by, awesome experience!!! The food was great and the smiles with which they were served invaluable. Not something we would normally have for breakfast, but for a brunch (which is what we had)i was quite appropriate. One chokchuka was big enough for 2. The owner's whitty jokes clearly came from a lifetime of experience and good entertainment.
J. M.
Whenever we visit Adelaide it's a must to go to central market and enjoy a meal at Le Souk. You receive a wonderful welcome and delicious food.
C. N.
Amazing food (lamb tadjine) and the owner is a great host. Definitely coming back next time I'm in Adelaide.
J. T.
Delicious lamb couscous and ok but not great value for money at AUD 19.50.
M. M.
The food is authentic and the service is friendly. The only 2 criticisms I have is that the portion of the serve is not consistent and will depend on who is serving you. The other is the price, $5.50 for a double-shot small cappuccino is expensive. I usually drink 3 coffees in any one sitting. Paying $16.50 for those 3 coffees is excessive regardless of how you try to justify it.
H. S.
Lamb Couscous is the best I’ve ever had! Servings are large so best to share.
C. S.
Great authentic fresh taste.... would love to come back again and would recommend all, the staff provided us with useful information about the food and also provided great service with quick delivery.
C. E.
I just wandered past and looked at the menu, I was actually heading to a cafe further down, when a charming man in the kitchen offered me a date (the edible kind!). I was then approached by a really friendly older gentleman who also offered me a date, along with some fun banter. Well needless to say, they earned my business and I ordered the Lamb Couscous based on their recommendation. The amazing meal lived up to the high standard set by the impeccable service and fun atmosphere. It was absolutely delicious! I will definitely be a repeat customer.
H. B.
Absolutely lovely place. I apparently came on a slow day and got a chance to chat with the chef and owner. They are absolutely lovely people who worked with my dietary restrictions no problem, and made sure I got more than my daily dose of laughter. I'm definitely making my way back next I'm in Adelaide!
K. M.
Absolutely delicious food with complex tastes, every dish we had was amazing & enjoyed by all, service was also good, will definitely be coming here again!! Thankyou😊
A. W.
Excellent Algerian!! Great food and even better service
Bon Appetit
m. s.
The best food and the friendliest service. Were going back tomorrow
J. C.
I work away for two weeks and live on the other side of Adelaide. When I get home the first thing i do is come to le souk.
Such amazing food inspired from Algeria Africa, every meat cooked with absolute passion
Catering from vegans/vegaterians and the general public. If you haven't been here before chuck it on your list. It's and absolute treat and you will not be disappointed ❤️
S. P.
Had my lunch there today, the slow cooked lamb with couscous meal was great, and so was the beef one, chakchouka. Dessert was surprisingly good too, ice cream with sweet couscous - never heard of it, but it's amazing. Great people, healthy food, great experience.
J. L.
Great service! Loved the food very much
B. B.
Excellent and very friendly service. Freshly made selection of Algerian and Moroccan cuisine. Highly recommend everything on the menu. Also provides vegetarian meal options.
J. W.
The best Shakshouka (Spicy mince with eggs breakfast) I have ever eaten.
My only regret is that I keep ordering Shakshouka at other places expecting a meal as fine as I get at Le Souk... and fail each time.
The owner is very personable. Ask for a date if you are not given one first ;-)
C.
It is a bit salty and I would not recommended :(
D. B.
Spectacular food. Generous serves and friendly service!
B. Y.
Scrumptious food, have been here a few times now with the husband for brunch, absolutely tasty, spicy shakshuka and the owner is super friendly and funny and comes round to give you a 'date' along with corny date jokes. Gem of a place. Always busy.
C. B.
This is fast approaching my top 5 quick eat venues in Adelaide. It’s simple food done exceptionally well and the owner has style and savvy when it comes to customer service. The chakchouka, couscous with lamb and merguez sausage breakfast are absolute favourites.
My interstate visitors have been twice this week. Long may it stay in the Adelaide Central Market.
Y. B.
Loved the food and the market, the owner was very friendly
J. B.
Amazing vegan breakfast, SO good!
Great service and a fantastic menu, very highly recommended
M. M.
Incredible cuisine, infused with Arabic and French flavours. The owner is extremely friendly and sure knows how to do food that'll fill you up for ages but have you coming back later for more!
J. I. R.
Best Paella ever 🥘🥘👌👌👌
M. A.
Food was amazingly, never tasted anything like it. However I feel as the prices was a bit to high for a market setting. Although the prices would have been justified if it was a nice seated restaurant.
T. P.
Paella was really good, generous meal size, would be enough for two to share.
P. D.
Awesome breakfast - eggs, spicy sausages, rice, mushrooms & more. Very friendly staff, complimentary dates and great coffee. Fantastic way to kick off the weekend. Variety is the spice of life and this offers variety (and spice)
T.
Average paella and was served warm.
P. “. M.
Overpriced breakfast. $22 for eggs and mince.
I’ve always wanted to visit this place as it always has a crowd.
Owner is friendly and welcoming. Chasouka was underwhelming.
R. P.
Had a wonderful experience for a Monday breakfast.
We had the Chakchoula with the slow cooked beef mince .
One with poached eggs and the other with house made merguez spicey sausage so delicious. Will be back.
I. B.
Food is delicious. The spices and everything used can’t be cheap - so the pricepoint is perfect.
So delicious. I had the cous cous royale - ate too much of it to take a photo before, it was that delicious!!
Friendly staff - delicious Algerian meals
j. c.
Amazing Breakfast from a very engaging owner, he loves his food and shows it in the delicious vegetarian Chachouka he makes in the morning, Merci beaucoup monsieur!
C. D.
What an awesome find! A cool little place in the central market. The owner was so happy for us to be there and his jokes were awesome! Speaking of awesome ... the food was exactly that. Fresh, hot and tasty. I'll be back for sure!
A. E.
WOW! So delicious!! The lamb couscous and the merguez sausage were fantastic. Friendly staff and incredibly fast service. Highly recommend!
J. D.
You probably haven't tried much Algerian food. You probably won't need to go anywhere else in your life for Algerian food. Le Souk is the finest in all the lands. Talk to the boss about the couscous (talk to the boss about anything, biggest legend). Guaranteed to be the lightest, tastiest you've ever had. And the slow cooked meat is turnt. Fantastic Maghreb hospitality, free date on arrival. Finish with a mint tea. World class.
l. F.
Located outside of the central food markets. This was a lovely place to go for something different for breakfast. Gluten free options available. Friendly staff and good service
Z. K.
Mr. Azou is a great character and makes a mean meal. The paella and coffee is 👌👌👌
M. K.
Great service, delicious slow cooked lamb, paella and plenty on the plate, too. 100% recommended
J. M.
Such a welcoming stall in the market with great service and staff. I'm loving the lentil soup.....it's all in the spices!
S. K.

K. D.

A. B.
Vegan paella ……. Divine!
K.
Just ate the sausage breakfast and the falafel breakfast☕🥣. Words can't even describe how good it was. You need to check out Le Souk💃
J. S.
The food is 4/5 star. But a plate of rice for $17 seems a bit much in the market where you can easily get meals at around $10.
R. K.
Great Food!
J. K.
Owner is very friendly. Great food! Many vegan options.
N. F.
I really love Algerian Food. Le Souk provides a nice Algerian banquet in the vibrant market environment.

We visited Le Souk for breakfast on a Saturday morning. The restaurant was really busy, but we were able to get two seats at the counter.
All the items on their menu looked enticing, and we decided to order a lamb tagine and a Moroccan tea. The tagine was served with a couscous salad and bread. The tagine lived up to its expectations, and the tea was great as well. I loved the addition of pine nuts as this gave a bit of a texture and a creaminess to the tea. The paella also seemed very popular, and we will definitely try that next time we are in Adelaide.
