This cafe's style is wonderful! It's a nice, warm vibe that just works so well. The staff were super friendly, helpful and welcoming too. Ordered scrambled eggs on sourdough and got a pretty decent portion. The Rainbow Road which my partner had was a pretty elaborate meal too! Definitely skilled chefs here too. They've got a solid tea list too. I'd definitely come back again!

Beautiful cafe with plants and nice decor, our server was great. Best coffee I've had in Canberra so far. We had the Lil Italy & the No Ragrets (love the meal names) which were both tasty and plenty of food for your money. There were also great looking pastries in the counter.

Good atmosphere with a distinct hipster vibe replete with manbuns and staff in casual hipster attire. Service was good however, and food well presented and with healthy ingredients. And although hard surfaces abound, the noise level was quite tolerable and one can conduct a conversation. However, the espresso was served on a cold saucer (cooling it quickly) and the food on cold plates, on a particularly cold winter morning. Not ideal. Otherwise quite a good venue.

This is my favorite go-to place on Sundays. Food is great, portions are just perfect, preparation is great, flavorful and yet light and easy to digest. VB is my favorite! staff is super attentive, helpful and even seems to be having fun even while working, music style is top-notch, and decor (plants included) makes me feel at home. Well-done guys!

Went for lunch on a sunday, the chocolate peanut butter milkshake was great, as was the iced latte. The activist burger was AMAZING and the servings were so big we couldn't finish. However, the big kahuna burger wasnt the best and the chicken tasted a little like blue cheese. Great atmosphere and nice sunny seats. Staff were also excellent.

Dropped by Coffee Lab for the first time yesterday. I'm a little disappointed to be honest...that I have missed out this long!! Great coffee and one of the best bacon and egg rolls I ever had!! The place has a cool vibe and was bathed in glorious winter sun too. I only got takeaway this time, but I'll have a mortgage on my favourite outside table before too long. Oh, last thing. Daily newspapers. Boom! Seems to be a rarity these days, but no coffee shop or cafe is complete without the daily papers. *** UPDATE: Had a very average experience at Coffee Lab recently. Wrong dishes served, no dramas usually. These things happen. But staff were less than gracious about it and my autistic son had a quiet meltdown, so not pleasant at all. We're not all rainbows and sunshine everyday, I get that. My experience just took some of the lustre off my previous couple of visits. Was 5 star, now 4 star. ***

What just happened 😳😳 I return thinking that this would still be under same management but to my surprise that Jamie’s original crew left. Coffee lab is not the same. What made me disappointed the most was the food and sorry current team coffee lab but it’s got to the point where I want to point out my experience. 1) walk in and greeted then asked to take a seat. 2) waiter sits me down and I knew what I wanted and said “so this is your breakfast menu, I would like..” and before I could finish my sentence the waiter said “yeah” and went inside! 3) so I am waiting, waiting and presume that the waiter will be back. Should I have called out yes but at that point I was already disenchanted. So I waited until the waiter came back 4) boom I set my time and told myself “ok in 3 minutes if they don’t come I’m leaving. It was almost 20 mins” the waiter arrives and I order the Buddha bowl 5) food comes and I thought? “ are you kidding me?” It was completely doused in sauce! Three pieces of carrot, red cabbage, peas and a puree with so so so much sauce. Which was like a thicken ranch sauce. So I didn’t want to waste and tried to eat the meal but I couldn’t finish. It made me feel so 🤢 to the point that I just can’t. 6) went to the counter and manages says till please. Then I paid. No question about my meal neither service. If I was asked I would have honestly pulled out my receipts. So solution? I went to another cafe. Coffee lab I understand that under new management things will change in direction, vision and customer service experience. The odds may be against this comment but I was not happy. I do however believe in second chances and may try my luck again one day at coffee lab.

KB and I had breakfast this morning in Canberra at Coffee Lab. It earns five stars both for the quality of the coffee and of the food. KB ate halloumi, avocado and pork belly. I had perfectly poached eggs and back bacon on a bed of kale with a sauce of their own creation which they call JB sauce. It it is a butter and eggs sauce like hollandaise, except the spice mixture was uniquely their own. I do not know what spices they used. I wish I did. It was excellent. TripAdvisor believes this to be the second best breakfast in Canberra. This was within walking distance of our hotel. Number one is too far away from the centre of the city for us to try it.

This place was wonderful! Great set up, service and food. Had the hulk $17 and hot chocolate $4. Everything was made to perfection. Poached eggs with herb mayo was balanced well with the potato croquette, bacon and kale. Cant wait to have it again!

Coffee Lab is a great little cafe tucked between Civic and Braddon. The atmosphere is nice and cozy and the outdoor are is nice and sunny. The coffee is really good, and I am reliably informed the milkshakes are pretty good too. We went there for breakfast on mid morning Sunday and it was busy but by no means crowded. The menu is really varied and there are vegetarian and vegan options for most of the meals. The only thing which held it back was the wait for our non coffee drinks which took quite a while to arrive.

Loved it (with one exception). I came here twice yesterday. The first time for lunch (hot chocolate and waffles) and it was amazing. Fast service, good food and great drinks. I came later in the day and ordered their peppermint hot chocolate. This was incredibly weak and disappointing. Both the peppermint and chocolate flavours were barely noticeable - nothing like the hot chocolate in the morning.

I think I've found my new local. The coffee is amazing with three different blends available. I tried the Seasonal, which was truly amazing. My girlfriend had a long black of the house blend, and she loved it. The temperature was perfect too, something not often achieved by cafes. The staff were very friendly and attentive, greeting us as we arrived and actively seeking feedback of the food. Speaking of the food: wow. They just started food this week and they've already nailed it. My bacon and egg roll was fantastic, made with award winning eggs and a home made sauce that tops it off nicely.

Love the vibe and atmosphere at this cafe! We had a great experience while we were there. We went to the Coffee Lab because of the reviews it had and we believe it lived up to it's reputation. Two things stand out: 1. The ambiance they have created. The interior is very thoughtfully and tastefully designed. You feel good about going back. Almost like you've stumbled upon something few others know about. 2. The presentation of food. Most places make a good coffee. Most places have good food. Some even have courteous staff (these guys are certainly warm and friendly) but few master the above 2 points.

I use to go here so much when i was last in Canberra and returned after 14 months to find the coffee even better than before. I looked at the menu but who am I fooling, it has to be the No Ragrets breakfast. It still looks and tastes as beautiful as it ever was. So good to see a place stick to what they do good and don't change for changes sake.

Great coffee. Lactose free milk available. Don't be afraid to ask for simple eggs on toast, with or without sides - it's not listed on the menu but they will do it happily. Only downside to this place is that it doesn't have toilets - you have to hoof it over to the Canberra Centre proper to use the public restrooms there.

They have a new menu now which has A lot more vegan options, which is great. Unfortunately a lot of the options remove the most interesting part to become vegan. So would be great if they could stay exciting and be vegan! But food tastes good, coffee is good, and the staff are always lovely. The chia breakfast is delicious, and the mushroom breakfast would be perfect if it had a little something extra (presumably this is what the non-vegan sauce does for the dish...would be great if it were substituted rather than just omitted). Quirky little place that has great coffee and a very cool vibe both inside and out. The interior is funky and suits the location and staff working there. It's a small place so there is generally a wait for a table as well as take away coffee. Blankets for outside table are a helpful addition in Canberra.

Fancy coffee, fancy place, fancy food. Coffee Lab is the king of the coffee joints on this side of the city, and it shows. The menu is small and the coffee menu is long. If you are looking for a coffee tasting experience, you can’t go wrong with Coffee Lab. But, the coveted fifth star eludes Coffee Lab, not because their products are missing any care and attention, but because this hipster coffee place is sadly living up to one of the stereotypes - inflexibility. If it’s blistering hot, and I request an off menu “flat white with cold milk please!” It could be achieved. Refusing as it’s not on your menu just seems petulant. That, and it seems to take a very long time to have orders delivered, even if they’re quiet. 4 stars, a great coffee shop, only a moment away from perfect.

Food and coffee was ok, however the menu font was confronting and all the item names felt like inside jokes for the staff. This resulted in our entire group unknowing ording what was obviously a bacon and egg burger. Sad Wait staff were disproportionately good-looking. Leading us to suspect a systematic discrimination of ugly people from management.

TLDR: service was extremely clumsy, but food was great. For breakfast (Canberra centre), we ordered two rainbow roads, two ice coffees and a salmon dance. We waited 30 min for our drinks which they forgot about until we asked after a 25 min wait. Worse, instead of two iced coffees (contains ice cream and syrup for $6), they initially gave us two iced lattes (does not contain any ice cream or syrup for $4). When we asked them whether we were given iced coffees or iced lattes, they confidently confirmed TWICE that we were given iced coffees (despite there clearly not being any ice cream or syrup in our drinks). We then pointed out that the menu specified that iced coffees come with ice cream and syrup. We were then told that we'd have to pay extra for ice cream and syrup. When we pointed out that the menu said nothing about paying extra for ice cream and syrup (since the iced coffee includes ice cream and syrup in its price), they brought out two scoops of ice cream (but no syrup) so that we could add it to our drinks ourselves, rather then remaking the iced coffees that we originally asked for. We also did not receive our food for approximately one hour since they took our orders. Turns out they got mixed up with our orders, but did not realise until we inquired multiple times about our food and drinks. My main issue was not that they mixed up our orders - it was the fact that we were mislead twice by the staff (unintentionally or intentionally) about our drinks being iced coffees, when the drinks we received were clearly a different drink altogether that we did not ask for. On a positive note, the manager apologised for the mix up and the service, and said the entire meal was on the house. The food was also tasty, well presented and affordable. Giving the staff the benefit of the doubt, I accept this experience was perhaps an honest mistake. Regardless, I hope the team and management can learn from this uncomfortable experience and improve its processes and communication to ensure such mistakes are not made again with other customers.
