Comments of Gather Cafe
K.
Spacious modern cafe, love the hanging plants and decor. Food was tasty and good decent portions. Service was efficient.
J. D.
Gather Cafe does a decent brunch. I personally think that there are tastier brunch options in Braddon but this cafe is super pretty and serves large quantities of aesthetic food. Still a good time overall and worth a try.
T.
A great cafe for brunch! Every dish was so well thought out and the servings are good. The coffee was good too.
J. E.
Gather has always been in a league of its own compared to other brunch spots in Braddon and our most recent visit was no exception. After arriving, I was promptly asked for a coffee order and received it within two minutes. I ordered the Smashed Avo which has been jazzed up since the last time I had it and I was thoroughly impressed. Flavourful, beautifully presented, tangy, vibrant and just damn delicious.
Our only issue was our order not being put through properly which meant our food took a little longer - but not much longer than a typical Saturday morning wait. The wait staff were very apologetic and got us our meals very quickly.
If you’re after a delicious, healthy brunch with good coffee and without the loudness of Lonsdale Street, Cafe Gather is the place to be.
E. B.
Favourite brunch spot in Braddon! The food was delicious, and the service was top-notch. There's plenty of healthy and creative menu options to choose from. The smashed avo was a highlight.
It's also just a beautiful place to sit and eat with an easy-going but vibrant atmosphere.
Keen to return, would 100% recommend!

A popular new cafe in Braddon. It’s very busy and quite aesthetic. The staff were quite friendly and the drinks were nice. However, I felt the food could’ve been more balanced and larger servings for the price. But overall not a bad brunch and catch up place.
S. T.
Great vegan selection on the breakfast/brunch menu. Make sure you get a side of mushrooms-delicious. Staff very friendly and helpful. A nice casual place to have a catch up with friends.

Canberra has become the next Melbourne with trendy cafes and restaurants. First time at Gather and I was disappointed with the food. All plates come out well presented, colourful and pretty, unfortunately the flavours don’t taste good, and after a few spoonfuls you’re think I just wasted my money. Gather cafe serves a menu of healthy food, but the combination of flavours and sauces don’t compliment each other. I was looking forward to a nice pancake with seasonal fruits, but the pancake was dry and bland. The sauce on the side was purple, blueberry maybe? Without the sauce the dish is not editable. The caramelised bananas was nice but you only get half a banana. I do not recommend this dish. The avo toast look fantastic on the plate, but the toast was burnt under. We were lucky to get a table easily, food came out quickly and staff were helpful. But as more people came the cafe started to get busy and they took ages to serve our babyccino for my son. If you are expecting ‘wow’ or ‘amazing’ there isn’t any from the taste side of things only pretty pictures for Instagram. You definitely don’t get what you pay for!

Great ambience and good value for price! Food was well presented and delicious!
Our waiter lacked knowledge of the menu but overall we were happy with the service!
Here is a review of everything we ordered ☺️
Matcha oat milk latte = good temperature and latte art but the matcha was quite bitter and lacked smoothness
Mushroom Benedict = a delicious filling dish. Perfect for mushroom lovers! Toast and poached eggs were a little over done. But perhaps I was just unlucky. Would definitely order again.
Dumpling soup = delicious richly spiced hearty lentil soup served with large generous chicken dumplings. This is a great winter dish and sets Gather apart from other brunch spots.
Mediterranean kofte = I loved the vegan kofte balls. They were so moist and flavoursome that I'd prefer them over many sub standard lamb kofta balls I've had in the past. Served with mint and pomegranate flavours that compliment the kofte really well.

Waited an hour for our food to arrive, there was a $30 public holiday surcharge, and the service wasn't that great. Pretty disappointing because I was excited to take my family there after having a great experience, but we had very callous service. Very disappointed and won't be returning here again..
Edit:
I have changed my review with the explanation provided. Covid has been difficult, whilst I understand the staffing situation, it just felt like your staff just weren't being as attentive to their brown and Asian customers as they were to others, as I watched another Asian couple wait a really long time and experience poor service, but given the circumstances with covid, I'm sure with more staff there will be more attentive, friendly service like I experienced previously when dining here 😊

Loved this cafe. We had breakfast on Sunday, busy, but only a 15min wait, and they didn't rush you through the meal. Friendly staff, and great little spot. The honey and orange ham was the highlight, so delicious. Recommend!
A. D.
Such a beautiful little cafe with a great mantra for sustainability and keeping it local. Their transparency about their ingredients is something more cafes should be doing! And with the use of seasonal, regional produce come some banging flavours in their dishes.
I had the miso roast mushroom Benny which gets an A+ for creativity and a vegetarian Benny! Before this meal I had had some shockers with Asian fusion but this restored my faith in it :'). The veggies were cooked to perfection in some great sauces and I'm so surprised the miso wasn't overpowering. Basically the balance of the dish was mwah 👌 spot on. End of story. Thank you for coming.
The excellence of the food was corroborated by my friends' meals and reactions. What a pleasant way to brunch/lunch somewhere near the city that isn't pretentious and is actually worth every cent. To top it all off they had mini tarts that we got for free on leaving the cafe and these were also so tasty and I don't think I've been that happy in a while. Faith restored in fusion food and humanity.

We stopped here for lunch while walking the dogs and the staff were superb - found us a table in their adjoining laneway, a bowl for the dogs, and were easily able to identify the gluten-free options on the menu.
The meals here are little different from the standard fare, and very good - we had the Creamed Rice Fruit Bowl and Jerk Chicken San Choy Bau and both were excellent.
Good coffee and tea.

This place is where you go to get the most amazing vegetarian/vegan dishes. The service was amazing and really friendly. A place in Canberra that show respect to ALL customers and takes the time to have a friendly chat.
u.
Great customer service and great baristas. I myself am a chef of 13 years and can say that the quality of food here is up there with some of the best in Canberra. I will be coming back.
C. M.
7.10$ for this tiny amount of cold brew. Ooft. Knowing how little effort it is to make cold brew I don't understand where the price comes from... Am I paying for the bottle? At least it tastes good.
D. D.
Delicious food and nice atmosphere. Definitely will come again and have recommended my friends to this nice place.
R. G.
I love gather, never had a bad meal there! Although some meals are massive and others are quite reasonably sized - it is good to ask the helpful staff!

Mushroom poached egg
Beautiful food and great coffee
L. R.
Lovely tasty food with friendly staff, just a bit slow and you require bookings to guarantee a seat.
Definitely recommend, we went there both days for breakfast
J. D.
Was really keen to eat here but unfortunately it was a bit underwhelming. I ordered the vegan option of avo on toast so is meant to come with scrambled tofu instead of egg. When it came out there was no scramble so I asked only to find out they ran out but failed to tell me when ordering (would've ordered differently). They offered me a side instead which was tasty but then almost charged me for it at counter. Luckily the girl who served me was nearby and had it fixed. Probably won't go again anytime soon.
Adding to that, while our coffee order was taken down quite quickly we had to ask about it 15mins later when they took our food order and coffees hadn't yet come out.
M. A.
Lovely cafe with a natural ambience. Friendly staff and fast service. I had avo on the toast with the best smoked salmon ever 👌🏽
A. H.
After having a not so great experience, we appreciate the cafe taking the time to hear us and listen to our concerns
No one came over to greet us etc, had to walk in because we weren't even sure if they did table service. They finally took our order, never checked on us, refilled water etc. We paid and they charged us for a dish we didn't eat. We had to call and get a refund and they were very rude about it. Waitress seemed a bit annoyed as we had dietary requirements (gluten free/halal)
Noticeably two people who came after us were looked after well, served food promptly etc
Not gonna come back here at all, and will tell others to avoid.
UPDATE: After posting this review, there are two other POC groups that have posted around the same time as us. I recall this as well as they weren't being served as either, and they also refer to the couple I mentioned above that received their food before any of us, noticeably they were not POC.
It seems they are appropriating aspects of Asian food but reluctant to serve them when they come to their cafe.
UPDATE UPDATE: just wanted to follow up and say that we got a call back to personally apologise for the experience we had here. Its very commendable for them to want to reach out and fix the situation and we really appreciate them taking the time to understand our feedback. Sometimes in service bad days and interactions can happen and what we perceive can be different to people's intentions. Thank you for the call!

What a finding. Went looking for parking and saw the Cafe. Wanted to have a coffee. Our first time here and we loved it. Especially their Kombucha Coffee. Unique. New. Innovative. Appealing. Delicious. So good. A perfect day in a perfect place. Staff super friendly. Food was inviting but we were full. A great atmosphere to be. Highly recommended.
R. K.
Very popular cafe - bit of a wait to be seated. Coffee took a while to come. Food was tasty and nicely presented. Good options for healthy and gluten free diets.
L. M.
Amazing breakfast place in Braddon. If you are hungry and want some great food and coffee, head on over to Gather Cafe.
Service was fast and friendly. Almond milk coffees and regular chai latte were super duper tasty. Food was delicious! We got the bowl and the avocado and mushroom breakfasts. Great atmosphere as well, with a beautiful hanging garden of plants.
Reasonable/standard prices for the location, quality and amount of food.
A. R.
Lovely staff, beautiful (and delicious) food, but despite being some of the earlier customers in this morning to beat the rush, after 35 minutes and seeing later arrivals being served their orders, our waiter came by and asked us to confirm what we’d ordered. On doing so they came back almost immediately with the plates—they were both cold, as in skeletally cold, with no residual warmth. They took them back and re-heated them of course, and offered free drinks, which was appreciated, but what a waste—our dishes must have sat unnoticed for 15–20 minutes before being collected for service. These things happen, but it’s a bit of a mystery in a small restaurant—definitely recommend the food otherwise, but suggest maybe chasing more aggressively if there’s an unreasonable delay.
S.
The staff were friendly and accommodating. Food was nice but took a while to come out and wasn't overly hot- I think it had been sitting waiting at the kitchen for a while. But overall it was a good experience.
C. K.
Foods are nicely presented and tasty. Staffs are kind and caring. Sharing table's seats are a little uncomfortable so recommend to get the table;)
A. K.
My friend and I came for brunch on Saturday as Canberra came out of lockdown & it was such a great way to start the day. It was supposed to rain so they had called the day before to move our time as they'd have to move people inside, but it ended up being a beautiful morning and we were outside in the sun after all. My Avo Smash was delicious and the coffee was creamy and consistent. Will definitely visit again!
F. M.
Amazing cold brew, awesome vegan quesadilla and a really well laid out menu clearly identifying dietary needs.
Friendly staff and a nice mix of indoor and outdoor tables.
Will come again.
k. z.
Amazing place with unbelievable food. Just passing by, and randomly walking in wanna have brunch and coffee with friends. Friendly founder and staffs, food is very delicate and of course delicious.
I really like the cutlery by the way. Wanna have the same set at home lol
M.
Average experience. We ordered a coffee, a scrambled eggs on toast with a side of ham and another poached eggs on toast with a side of haloumi and avocado. The waiter who took our order didn’t write our order down and I knew we were in trouble at that point when he could not remember what my order was (scrambled eggs + side) after my partner told him his (poached eggs + sides).
Ultimately we ended up with 2 serves of scrambled eggs but we had already been waiting for what seemed like awhile (another waitress came up to ask if we had ordered, we said we had and she asked us specifically what we ordered - that made me wonder if the order was put through by the first waiter at all).
The food was fine, I think the eggs were under seasoned - quite a bit of salt and pepper was needed and I don’t usually salt my food at the table. Also I think the toast was left for a little too long in the toaster, the crust was hard and the butter did little to help.
It was a bit expensive but I guess that’s what a public holiday does to cafe prices. Our meal was roughly $50.
I don’t think we will be back as it just wasn’t a memorable experience - average food with below average service.
M.
Food was excellent, coffee was delayed by everyone else wanting coffee! The espresso was OK (adequate), a bit too hot suggesting it had run fast.
M. S.
If I could I would add another star! Gather is simply the best cafe in Braddon. Their food is lip smacking. I went for lunch today and had the Gather Bowl, my favourite. Healthy food, natural ingredients, yummy flavours and great portions. They also make their own Kombucha and cold brew coffee. Today I tried the Orange&Ginger kombucha, so good! They have some outside tables under the sunshine...just perfect for a lunch break! Will be back soon to try some more of their delicious food.
S. S.
Gather was a big highlight to my Canberra stay! Coffee is superb, Miso Roast Mushroom Benny is a solid 10 out of 10, and their chicken (I added on the side) was absolutely delicious! Will be racing straight to Gather when I'm in Canberra again next!
W. L.
Delicious honey and orange and smoked ham. Definitely add it to any dish. So worth it and generous amount. I had it with the mushroom Benedict. So so good!
K. H.
Hip cafe serving a somewhat eclectic menu. The quality of food was great and service attentive. The space has a mixture of communual tables and others to the side. You also get to see the next door crossfitters running around the block during the morning!
S. M.
The food looked really good and was well presented. Just took a little longer than expected to get it.
A. F.
First time went there. Unique drink and food menus. Lots of things I would like to try out. Somoothie was really nice.
M. G.
If you like a feel good, quality meal that's healthy, filling and tastes amazing, then you have got to try this place. I tested my new phone camera here - this place is built for instagram.
J. W.
Food and drinks were nice. Got asked several times if we ordered but guess it’s better to over service than under service. And had some confusion with table allocation but, it’s mainly because they were busy. A good sign!
I. G.
Thoroughly enjoyed our coffee and ‘breakfast’ burger for lunch today. Fast, friendly service at a reasonable price.
W.
Great coffee and food in a cosy yet modern location. The poached eggs were perfect and cold brew delicious. Both staff that served us were helpful and friendly, would recommend for a nice brunch.
N. I.
Mango and sago pudding was delicious! The coffee was very good and the service quick for a Sunday morning.
C. R.
Food and coffee were good but not excellent. The staff were very friendly but the food took a while to come out.
S. J.
Staff are always lovely! Vegan, vegetarian and other dietary requirements friendly, and the green juice is always worth getting.
N. W.
Excellent venue! Came here for a nice Easter morning breakfast and had an awesome time. Food looked incredible and had taste to match. Although it was quite busy, staff were polite and swift to accommodate everyone's needs. In particular, Cam and Charlie were friendly and added to the atmosphere. Couldn't recommend it any higher!
C. T.
Diverse and interesting menu, lovely staff, cute styling and comfortable atmosphere.
C. B.
Always great coffee and amazing food. Friendly staff and a treat to chill out at.
G. N.
Staff were very helpful, music was the right volume and the food and coffee were great! Definitely recommend. I had plain poached eggs on toast, but the eggs were poached to perfection.
B. B.
It was ok. Staff were reasonably attentive. Food was nice as was the coffee
B. S.
Interesting and diverse menu giving great variety to the normal breakfast fare. Friendly staff. Only real issue was that it was so busy that the coffee and food took ages to come out. I guess that speaks to the popularity of the place.
T. T.
Lovely little cafe in the centre. Amazing coffee and staff.
L. H.
Unfortunately the muffin (VG, choc, raspberry and almond), friand (GF, raspberry) and Anzac biscuit (VG) were all dry and bland. Wanted to love this place for it's awesome vegan options, however, very disappointed.
A. S.
Lovely food ! In & outside sitting. Great service !
S. T.
Good and service were great. Nice coffee and brilliant pancakes
G. B.
I'm a big fan of Gather! My fave dish is the Miso Roast mushroom benedict. OMG delicious! I also enjoy the smashed avo with arepa, a South American food made of ground maize dough (their gluten free option to replace bread). Coffee is top! Housemade juices and kombucha too. It's also well located. Friendly staff.
D. M.
Took over 45 mins to get our food and when the food came out, they gave us the wrong bread. The waitress that was working there was not apologetic at all. But the other blonde male waiter was really good and kept apologising and gave us the drinks on the house.
E. Y.
Came here twice for brunch (both 9-10am) in the past year and although one of my friends love this place, I do find their iced coffee somewhat bitter rather than aromatic, the latte also had bad foam (very bubbly and did not look smooth) and on top of it poorly poured latte art. The food was decent, although did not stand out to me. Really enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere and huge windows with good sunlight.
B. P.
Was a busy Sunday, staff were friendly and managing really well. Had the breakfast burger and the buckwheat porridge both were really good. Coffee on point also, so win win.
L. S.
Excellent brekky & lunch, great range of options & lovely service ✨✨✨✨
K. L.
I heard great things about this cafe and it did not disappoint.
7 of us came for breakfast on a busy Sunday. We were originally seated inside but my friend brought her dog and they kindly put two tables together to accommodate for us.
Coffee was great, the waiter remembered all 7 orders.
The gluten free bread tasted great, the avocado was fresh.
Overall, a great atmosphere and wonderful experience.
V. S.
Came here for brunch with the girls, we were all very impressed with the menu and service. Despite eating outside on a rainy day, we were very comfortable and well looked after. We will be back again.
C. L.
The best vegan brekkie we’ve had in Canberra. Lovely staff. They were clearly busy but everyone was calm, giving off great vibes and giving us a great experience. Wish we found it sooner!
B.
This is my favourite cafe in Canberra. Food, coffee and service are awesome.
They are extremely accommodating to dietary requirements (on many occasions they have made non-vegetarian menu items into vegetarian for me!).
Their takeaway is always fresh and delicious.
If you're feeling like something sweet, the french toast and chai rice porridge are a must! My favourite savoury option is the quesadilla stack!
The staff are friendly and always happy to have a quick chat.
I would recommend Gather Cafe to anyone!
M. J.
Yum yum yum! I love their kefir and not happy when they run out. Delicious biscuits and brownies. The dudes making coffee need to show their cheery demeanour.
M. B.
Stumbled on the place but accident. In the city on a course and keen for a good cuppa. Dropped in, greeted with a warm friendly place with equally warm and friendly staff. The coffee, amazing, smooth, great flavour, perfect in all the times I've been there during the course. Highly recommend to anyone for a great coffee and great service.
E.
Thank you for your kind service and smiles! Definitely felt the passion and the eagerness to provide great coffee, food and service. The cafe was clean and decor tastefully done. Loved our lunch and can’t wait to try more
W. M.
Visited early on a Tuesday morning and was greeted with a smile by the staff. Coffee was promptly brought out - one of the few places in Canberra that makes a soy coffee well! And my food was beautifully presented, well portioned and delicious. Such a wonderful experience here that I'll be back frequently!
P. R.
The coffee was excellent and the smashed avo was great.
A. B.
I love this little cafe. Been there a few times now and sampled multiple things on the menu, all fresh and delicious. The recommend the yakitori tofu skewers and the pumpkin quesadilla. The space is small, and most seating is outdoors, but the atmosphere is friendly. Prices are pretty good too.
L. M.
Super nice place with wonderful food and staff. Highly recommend.
D. M. J.
Great service and fantastic food, if you are in Canberra I would encourage you to get in early and get a feed
M. W.
Decent coffee and service. The choc berry crepes tasted really fresh.
J.
I had high expectations I must admit. I had heard a lot about the place.
When I walked in the person behind the counter seemed to not want to be there, I barely got a smile. Mind you I am not a trendy looking person.
The service was pretty average, I really wanted a second beverage and I didn't have an opportunity to order one. I felt like I was burdening them with my presence.
The food was all fresh and looked amazing! But there was just no flavour. I love a good Quesadilla, I have been eating them everywhere I can for years, I felt it was just average.
In all fairness the whole experience was just average. Maybe I have been spoilt for choice in Canberra and maybe it's just not for me. It does seem to be popular and I wish them the best in their endeavours.
But a smile from anyone would of been nice.
T. H.
There was a bit of a delay with our order having an error in the system, however the quality of the food easily made up for it. Very fresh and tasty food from an interesting menu with little I've seen before. Most meals also seen sustainable without being tricky vegetarian. Decent medium meal sizes and roughly $18-20 per person for food.
Z. A.
Wonderful friendly service, great coffee and great food. The veggie kofta is an amazing and so is the peanut butter and date smoothie!
B. A.
The indoor area is very cramped and although there were tables available it was actually difficult to sit down. Also people waiting for take away coffee made it difficult to navigate.
My poached eggs were great, however one of my friends found her scrambled eggs to be runny. Our mushrooms, while well cooked contained a few that had stems which were hard to eat.
D. A.
Beautiful corner spot, not too busy with corner outdoor tables and indoor seating. Located behind Lonsdale street so much quieter, the coffee was good but slightly weak for my preference.they have delightful cakes and dried flowers and a really friendly staff. They split bills too!
L. O.
Have had the miso mushrooms, the smashed avo, and the blueberry pancakes. All of them were awesome. Good coffee too!
S. C.
Super popular, novel and delicious menu
D. L.
Amazing breakfast menu and excellent well-presented food. Service was very good as well. Highly recommended.
C. G.
Delicious and beautifully presented food, friendly staff and nice venue, service was a little off, seems to need some direction or command on the floor. Large table inside might be better as multiple smaller tables that could be pushed together for groups. Overall a nice venue that I'd recommend ☺
S.
Stumbled across this place while wandering in Braddon. Excellent coffee, service and chat with one of the owners. Interesting menu, more than the same old squished ham and cheese croissant! Tried the hotcakes, great choice!
R. F.
Amazing food, nice good quality healthy options
B. B.
It makes a difference when you are welcomed as soon as you walk in the cafe and attended to immediately. The Staff are very relatable. Coffee is excellent and the food is even better. Great customer service, great vibes and great manners.
S. M.
Pretty delicious food, good range of options for gluten free and vego, and small number of vegan options. While the food is good, the portion sizes are a little small, so not where to go if you want a big brekky. Staff are friendly and casual, and the location while out of the way a little is welcoming inside.
T. C.
Good coffee, good food
L. D.
Delicious coffee ...yummy food...friendly staff nice decor near Adina Apartments
Cafe on Mort St....very enjoyable experience.
A. K.
Really nice food and service
C.
Between us we enjoyed the Mushroom & Avo Toast, Crab Omelette, Ricotta Hotcakes, Peanut butter and date smoothie (a must try) along with excellent coffee & service in this inviting cafe.
A. P.
Fantastic brunch, amazing Lonsdale St coffee, excellent service. Our new favourite cafe in Canberra.
A. B.
I literally stumbled across this cafe last week on a business trip from Sydney - and was sad to not have found this gem earlier. Food was aromatic and just as delicious. Keep up the great work and see you next time for sure :)
S.
Great small cafe with an interesting menu full of local produce and carefully crafted dishes. Good range of coffees as well.
B. S.
Best cafe in Canberra. Bar none. Fresh local ingredients, creative menu, great coffee and excellent service. Can’t recommend this highly enough.
E. P.
Delicious food, friendly staff and amazing service. Love the fact that these guys care about sourcing the best quality produce. The kombucha is the best you'll try hands down!! 100% recommend!
C. O.
Lovely imaginative food great staff terrific coffee
L. U.
Best almond milk coffee. Staff always friendly and helpful. Plus they have filtered water lol and sparkling on tap aye aye. (Free just saying 😂)
J. M.
Nice relaxed lunch with a different take on the usual Cafe fare. The food was good and potion sizes generous.
L. S.
Pleasant, bright, with thoughtful staff, reasonable simple food and suitable greenery..even cut flowers. CBRfree wifi reception good. Outside seating on two sides.
M. B.
This place really gets it. Friendly and cheery staff. Interesting menu showcasing chefs creativity. Barrio coffee. Highly recommend.
R. K.
The mushroom eggs Benedict is a must try!
T. T.
Great food service and coffee.
J. J.
One of our favourite spots for brunch in Braddon. The options are healthy but still really yummy! The staff are really friendly and helpful!
C. B.
Very chill place with nice food and friendly staff, can be tricky to find a convenient park though and it's a tiny bit overpriced for what you get.
G. D.
Delicious food and coffee. Pleasant, attentive but unobtrusive staff.
h. a.
Lovely cafe with great coffee, delicious food, and most importantly, fabulous service. We will miss our morning visits!
T. P.
Really tasty and exciting menu that varies seasonally. I love their emphasis on local and sustainable produce.

C. S.
Great coffee and friendly staff. I might add they make there own juices and they are awesome, i highly recommend giving it a go :)
R. B.
I only stopped in for coffee so can't say too much but it seems like a cosy place with good service. Open on a Sunday in a formerly pretty dead part of Braddon.
J. W.
Great coffee and service. Eggs on toast tasted like eggs, not the usual rubbish. Will be back!
D. H.
Great food, lovely staff. The coffee kombucha and green bowl were highlights!
G. T.
What a great new cafe! The staff are incredibly friendly and the coffee is great. One of the best cafes in Braddon.
L. C.

Food was great but we waited 40mins for it to come out.
N. K.
Limited menu but great food and coffee

Love this little place. Set menu so no confusion and table service. Legends.

Highly recommend the mushrooms and eggs. Best breakfast I've had in a long time!
J. E.
