Comments of Gus' Place

Had a 9am Saturday breakfast date with a bunch of girlfriends. Luckily we booked as they were very very busy. Staff were really friendly. Coffee was perfect as was my eggs Benny. Kinda had food envy, my friend ordered the French toast and said it was sooooooo good!
Definitely a must try breakfast destination!!!!!

I lived in Canberra as a student for a number of years. Gus’ was my go-to place because breakfast, coffee and cakes were/are very good. The crowd is a diverse lot, one can sit beside ANU professors chatting with students, Olympic athletes with their peers, government employees taking a break, partners meeting up with friends before going home. Gus’ is a Canberra institution. It must be cherished even more by its local community 👍

This is always our breakfast go to when in Canberra. Staff are friendly and helpful. Menu always has something different. The all day menu suits the whole families needs. Kids are all of their meal which is unusual when dining out. Got there early which was good, as it got busy when we were leaving. Miss the waffles on the menu though.
C. K.
I really enjoyed the French toast! I will definitely have it again. The big brekkie was big portion like the name but taste is just okay, nothing special. Food was taking extra longer as the shop was really busy. But staffs were taking good care of the service.
N. T.
Good place for breakfast right in the heart of Canberra city center. Big breakfast can do a bit of improvement. Other than that the food and the vibe was really good.

Brilliant!
Fronted with no booking.
They managed to fit us in within 10 minutes.
Nicely attentive to getting our orders
Great coffee, tea, juice, food
Thank-you!

I really enjoyed my breakfast. Surprising it was filling as it looked very small. I am giving 4 stars due to lack of mentioning on menu that it is a little spicy and the eggs were way undercooked. Runny eggs are fine but this was the texture of uncooked eggs like mucus. Very gross to give customers raw eggs but oh well was still yummy breakfast. Lovely presentation could have added more beans as well. Will try again maybe later on and hope that this gets fixed.

I got a simple scrambled eggs with bacon and mushrooms, and it was delicious. I really liked this place: was a bit nervous about sitting outside in their little enclosed eating space, because it was a cold day, but it was so warm in there, we were almost too hot! 😄 My colleague enjoyed his shashuka, and the service here was excellent and the staff were friendly. Would happily go back.

It was a good experience, we just got there and sat down with some menu's.
We got served quiet fast.
Very good dirty chai latte and brekkie burger!
The ambiance is very cosy with the plants and the waiter and waitress felt very welcoming and nice :) would come here again!
I. D.
Eggs Benny was yum. Dirty eggs was great, wish is had a little more corn. Needed those juicy sweet explosions to cut through all the savoury. A splash of lime wouldn't hurt either. The tortillas didn't need to be cooked in oil, and the eggs could have been cooked a tiny bit more to avoid clear whites but all together it was super yum.
C. L.
Really enjoyed brunch at Gus’s. I had the Shakshuka baked eggs, so delicious. The iced coffee was yum and a large glass full! The children’s menu pancake was so pretty- a single fluffy fat pancake with fresh berries and ice cream. Yum! No toilets at this cafe tho, you have to go back to Canberra Centre for the toilets.

Back again and still fantastic. Best breakfast spot in Canberra! Great staff and excellent food
Really enjoy our breakfast here. The staff were happy and thoughtful. They gave us good feedback on our options and didn’t rush us in anyway. The eggs benedict with brisket was delicious as was the mushroom bruschetta. Wasn’t the cheapest but happy to pay when we got the food and service we got. Keep it up!
F. Z.
Came here for some breakfast after lockdown and the food was amazing! I had the French Toast which was delicious. Their service was second to none. I will definitely be coming back again!
T.
Active, friendly and fast service got us off to a great start here. Food was balanced well, even of the house was a bit flavourless. The only real issue was that the food came out lukewarm at best and unfortunately, that's a big enough issue to cost them a star.
Really do want to reiterate how good the service was though - top marks there.
1. 1.
Decent food. I had the shakshuka and it was great and really flavoursome. Although my partner wasn't a fan of the avo on toast, which despite its looks was very liquidy and arguably had almost too many tomatoes. Good coffee and a great atmosphere. The old-style diner look is really just great mixed with some nice music its a great spot.
n. b.
Had great brunch in Canberra city centre.. has indoor and outdoor covered sitting, nice friendly staff and yummy food! I wish the quantity was lil more :)
Z. M.
Yum place to have weekend brunch. Great coffee! We had the classic avo on toast and zucchini fritters. Nice!
A. P.
Staff were very accommodating for a group who were cold, closing the out door section and moving 3 tables to keep the warmth in. Food was excellent, and simple. No excessive flavours, and very fresh ingredients. I'll be coming back.

Team coffee standup
Nice place - sunlight was awesome in the morning
But service is slow
I. B.
I heard so much good stuff about Gus and was really excited to try out their menu. size portions are often described as being big but this didn't apply to the avo breakfast for sure. Shaakshuka was bland. service was slow, staff not very helpful, we moved out to the outdoor seating location because the inside seating area was too cold. Left Gus a bit disappointed. Perhaps it was a bad day and/or we picked the wrong dishes...
j.
Great tasting breakfasts. Not the cheapest breakfast menu going around but the extra cost was made up for in portion size, quality and execution. Real fresh juices. Friendly and attentive staff. Wasn’t absolutely heaving but not quiet either and still seemed well organised. I‘d expect their service standards to remain consistent at peak times.
I. 1.
Five star breakfast, dirty eggs and paninis are amazing! Staff are super friendly, food was served quick. Loved it!
N. O.
Great to see Gus' open, one of the first to open after lockdown restrictions lifted. Same good quality and service, tho' restricted menu, not surprisingly.
S. L. O.
Insanely delicious food, attentive and fast service, we're super happy with our breakfast and drinks this morning!! I highly recommend
A. Y.
The double shot espresso I had was quite nice. It was prepared as one should be and tasted just right.
The price is typical Canberra. They do have a Public Holiday surcharge however so keep that in mind, if you go on one.
Overall, not a bad spot. I would go back if I was in the area.
N. C.
Went between 8:40 and 9:20 on a chilly Sunday morning. Vibe was immaculate. Staff happy and talking amongst themselves, prompt service, delicious food. Had the brekky burger, 10/10. Music was on point, interior warm but not too warm. Can reccomend.
R. R.
First time at Gus's Place. Visit Canberra often with work. Wife and I decided to try the breakfast. Simply outstanding. Got there before the morning rush. Meal size was perfect. Big breakfast was big, tasty and cooked perfectly. Could not have been happier. Will definitely be visiting again.
T. A.
Gus' place is great. They have so many vegetarian options, the food is tasty, and the price is fair. We usually order uber eats from here, but the other day we decided to go and eat in. It was about a 20 minute wait to be seated, so prepare for a bit of a wait on busy mornings, but it's worth it in the end.
J. S.
Great service, thank you for fitting us in last minute, coffee and food was just amazing. Well done team. One of the best in Canberra!
J. O.
Very good place to meet up with friends. Delicious, good - sized servings. Good variety of food including vegetarian options. Lovely coffee. It's busy, and the space inside is tight, but it's worth a visit.
B. S.
Very accommodating and friendly staff good quick good. Tasty coffee
I. R.
Affordable, appetising and leaves you hungry for more! Gus' Place will be forever, my go-to place for brunch.
C. P.
Moved to Reid recently and sometimes grab brekky at Gus'. Great spot, good tucker and daily papers. Standing the test of time, but not quite on the same level as Coffee Lab just around the corner...
*** Update: Had a very average experience at Coffee Lab recently, so they have lost their lustre. Gus' wins by half a length! 😊***
s. c.
The food is fine. But it comes out very late.
D. S.
You never go wrong going to Gus' (and I've been going there, on and off, for over 20 years).
Great food, fast, friendly service, and reasonable prices. A real menu with real food, not weird confected breakfast choices that aren't really breakfast. Strongly recommended for breakfast/brunch!
M. K.
Delicious coffee and great outdoor seating area, great for hanging with Friends.
N. A.
Great coffee and ambiance! Didn't try anything else though, but what we tried was great!
J. P.
Gus' Place is now my brunch/lunch go-to cafe. Friendly staff, delicious food, great atmosphere.
A. T.
Coffee is awesome, The Benedict with bacon was perfect. The smoked hollandaise on it took it to the next level! Service was friendly and efficient.
S.
I have to commend Gus' Place for their extraordinary service & quality during these times. I have ordered from them three times now on Uber Eats, and on each occasion the food has been delicious, served warm despite needing to be delivered (including the coffee), portion sizes are excellent, and the utmost care has been taken to ensure suitable takeaway containers are used. I appreciate the detail to attention such as packaging the toasted bread separately to the food to ensure it doesn't get soggy. Special instructions have been followed meticulously each time, and overall the quality and price is unbeatable. Thank you, Gus' Place! I will certainly be ordering from you again soon, and look forward to visiting in person someday in the future.
A. D.
Excellent and fast service.
Good food and great coffee.
R. M.
We went to this place last Saturday morning around 10.15 and it looked quite busy, often a good sign especially when there are quite a few other options around. I ordered the egg bacon roll and my friend Eggs Benedict with salmon. It took quite a while to turn up. The egg bacon roll was cool. Bits of the egg where actually cold and the bacon felt like it had been on a tray for some time before being assembled into my breakfast. Very disappointing. The eggs Benedict was only marginally better. The salmon came on the side and the serving of salmon was substantial, as if they were trying to off load stock for some reason. My friend said that it had little flavour. The small coffee I ordered had only a mild coffee flavour, not one that should have been strong and rich. We didn’t stay for a repeat coffee or cake as would be our usual actions. Not a good experience.
S. S. C.
A nice place for brunch.
T. P.
Great service. Waitresses were happy to help. Great with dietary requirements. Wonderful vegan brunch option with no hassle. My friend had the eggs Benedict and said it was lovely. Coffee was good. Lovely fresh juice. Would definitely go back again.
F.
Lovely experience, very nostalgic to come back here ten years later and have the same quality coffee and breakfast on a Sunday winter morning.
B. V.
Cool place. Great breakfast and awesome service
J. C.
Food was tasty, service pleasant and outside areas covered and heated, so comfortable. Let down by billing however. Charged us twice for our drinks and only found by inquiring into the size of the bill that there is a 10% Sunday surcharge. Poor form not to let you know before placing the order. Their answer was it's written at the top of the menu. When was the last time you read the fine print on a menu. The owner needs a customer service lesson so here it is. Value matters to most customers so be more explicit and front load your charging arrangements so people can make a choice, don't hide the info so you can use it as a way to argue with the customer once they have consumed the goods hurt are providing. Maybe have a Sunday menu so we know what we are up for. I don't think we would have gone elsewhere if we had been informed someway before being seated. You are getting this reaction because what you do is deceitful.
T. P.
Great coffee, great food, friendly staff, was really impressed with the juices as well. I was really nice to have a refreshing, cool sunset boulevard (juice) on a warm morning to accompany the big breakfast dish, which is pretty uncommon these days. my wife had the eggs benedict which i can’t seem to find at many places as well. glad to see that one cafe does offer these two breakfast classics. will definitely be coming here again! great work, keep it up guys!
N. C.
I'm think I'm starting a mission to breakfast my way round Canberra. I began here as it's right near my wife's work and there was easy street parking outside (might vary with day and time). The food was great and comparably priced to other places. I felt you get a bit more for your money here (I was feeling full ¾ of the way through). The coffee was excellent and the toast wasn't too thick in the crust (a pet hate with some places that do sour dough). We had to sit outside as there isn't space inside for a pram but the tables are in a gazebo/tent/thing with space heaters. I'd recommend the eggs.
T. L.
Best breakfast i've had in ages! Great food, great service and fantastic prices. Locations was amazing in the heart of Canberra and they were very accomodating in getting me and my friends in even during COVID restrictions! Will definitely be going back soon!
G. S.
The coffee here is good. I had a simple toast with butter and jam but it was surprisingly good. Usually I expect two cold pieces of stale bread (I have low expectations) but this was warm and the sourdough was nice. I like the charm of the place too
A. D.
As an out of town visitor we were wandering the food precinct in Canberra trying to find somewhere nice for dinner. After walking past many places that were overcrowded or really noisy, we decided to give Gus' a go. There were only a few tables empty but the noise wasn't really loud which made for pleasant dining being able to hear the other people at the table. The food was great and our waitress was fantastic. Lindsay is a 10 out of 10 for helpfulness and professionalism. We couldn't get a particular item on the menu as it was unavailable but Lindsay was more than happy to make a few trips to the chef to sort out an alternative for us. The only other issue we encountered was a dish we ordered to share must have been missed in the kitchen and came out a little bit later. Apart from those couple of minor issues the food was great, the staff were great and I would definitely recommend this as a great dining experience.
N. T.
Went at 5.00, dinner menu starts at 5.30. Friendly staff, prompt service. Had the BLT Panini. Generous amounts of bacon, good balance with the lettuce and tomato. Kid had a bowl of chips, which he rated 4.5 stars, hot and crispy.
A. J.
I've been here a few times and it's always a great experience. The coffee is great, the staff are lovely and the atmosphere is a peaceful bubble in the bustle of civic(mostly due to all of the plants everywhere). However, the true highlight is the food. The menu is so good that it's hard to choose, but the standout to me was the shakshuka. I had never tried a middle eastern breakfast dish but it was one of the best breakfasts I've had in canberra. I think with Gus' Place they've managed to take a Canberra classic and make it even better.
J. R.
Was weird going here with smooth floors! Meal was okay, good size, maybe a bit expensive (but that's probably the civic mark up.) Staff were lovely but might jave pushed the drinks a little too hard. No problem with going back, few more things on the menu looked good.
C.
Decided to give Gus' Place another try today, and I was happy with the fried chicken burger and I commend Gus' Place for making it much better than it was 3 or 4 months ago. Aside from that, the only reason why I still have this place at 3 stars is because of one server in particular being somewhat rude and condescending...I don't often complain about poor service because I rarely experience poor service, however it lessens the experience when a worker at the establishment is condescending. Almost made us want to leave.
L. C.
Food was amazing, the reason I'm giving 3 stars is the waiter outside was inattentive, rude and "forgot" to bring out the remainder of the meals (salad and bread) when we asked it took over 10 minutes to get to us and our meals were cold in the end. The guys inside were amazing when we paid.
W. C.
Enjoyed one of the best steaks ever at a meal during our recent visit to Canberra. We arrived late from Sydney so had missed lunch but the waiter was most obliging and asked to chef to open the dinner menu early. We were happy to wait the 20 minutes till the kitchen opened but being hungry were thrilled by their efforts when the meal arrived "early". Steak was exceptional and the ribs were enjoyed by my partner also. Very attentive and friendly service and great beer and wine selection. The waiter gave us a run down on the best vantage points to check out the Summernats car cruisers. Could not have been happier with our dining experience and well priced. Alas it all went south the night after when we dined at La Rustica at Kingston where we had the worst meal and service I had experienced in more than a decade. We will be back to Gus' next time I am in Canberra. Highly recommended.
M. A.
I was there for breakfast last weekend the staff were really friendly and Recommend items on the menu .
The coffee was amazing, the best one I have had in Canberra in along time .
The food was amazing, I ordered the eggs Benedict and the the brekkie roll which were both delicious.
So happy that this place has reopened , it brings the city back to life .
J. C.
As visitors to Canberra we wandered around looking for a nice place to eat and after 20 minutes we found Gus'. We were glad that we did because their risotto was great and the chili con carne nachos were awesome.
The staff were very accommodating and explained that we can go buy a bottle of wine and bring it back and no-one will mind. Score!
So we did and I had the nachos, then a week later I had the nachos again. Then 3 days later I wanted to get the nachos another time but my partner said to try something else. Next week I'll have my nachos again, that's how good they are.
It's a relaxed environment with an outdoor enclosed section with fans and heaters in case the weather gets weird. Every time we've been there the Police show up and go inside for coffee and a brown bag of something so I'm assuming the coffee is awesome too and the police either love their muffins or Gus is paying the authorities off. Either way, their nachos are awesome.
Definitely give Gus' Cafe a try if you're in the area, I'm sure the locals know how good it is so they can ignore my review.
P. W. (.
Great food and coffee. The Huevos are utterly brilliant.
B. 8.
Really friendly and helpful staff, we got a seat inside which was perfect to check out the new refurb of the cafe- modern with a nod to it’s heritage. Amazing coffees that came out quickly despite the restaurant inside and out both packed to capacity. The staff knew the menu well and helped us order a few items. The food came out quickly seeing how busy the place was, delicious! Especially loved the brekkie burger! The food that other tables were ordering also looked incredible! Wishing the new owners all the best with this cafe- canberra has needed this for a while!
m. k.
Decent place for coffee in the evening normally.
The food is OK but nothing special especially for the price.
The beef Burger is alright if you like greasy tasteless food. The veg Burger (lentil and pumpkin) was delicious.
Their fresh juice is great as well.
J. G.
I have been looking forward to this place reopening for ages. When I looked at the new menu I was worried that they had lost their original charm with good, basic, diner style food. WOW! I had a toasted Ruben sandwich and a salted caramel milkshake. SOOOOOO good. A bit pricey but the service was great so happy to pay. The new interior is lovely and the place was packed at lunchtime on a Saturday. Well done guys and welcome back Gus's.
K. K.
We has the mushroom bruschetta, eggs Benedict, smashed Avo and kids bacon and Eggs. Food was fresh, hot and tastey.
They had the option for lactose free milk in our coffee which is hard to find at a lot of cafes.
Staff we're friendly and accommodating.
Great place for breakfast.
T. j.
Haha, yum. Everything you need to get started in the morning.

Best breakfast i've had in ages! Great food, great service and fantastic prices. Locations was amazing in the heart of Canberra and they were very accomodating in getting me and my friends in even during COVID restrictions! Will definitely be going back soon!

hot chocolate was good. Eggs benedict with bacon was meh...

Brilliant food!! Will be back.

Great for people watching, nice food

As an out of town visitor we were wandering the food precinct in Canberra trying to find somewhere nice for dinner. After walking past many places that were overcrowded or really noisy, we decided to give Gus' a go. There were only a few …
E. L.
Having returned to Canberra after several years, I was a little disappointed to see Gus's so changed. The staff were very friendly and the food came out quickly, but the coffee really wasn't as good as I hoped.
A. S.
Food and staff were good, but they need to do something about their heating. We started out in their greenhouse-type area under heaters but it was too cold so we moved inside. It was no better in there. It's so cold my meal was cold half way through and unpleasant as a result.
S.
So confused by this new menu.
Used to love their food and some of the classics they kept are still great. Had some breakfast dishes and they all taste good!
However we ordered the lamb main dish and if was unbalanced unseasoned and generally lacking flavour. The tzaziki was cold, and the lamb was hot, and it had elements in the plate that didn't make sense.
If your gonna try and make a trendy dish can you at least taste the damn thing with all the elements in the plate at the same time to see if they mesh well together?
Then came the panacotta and it tasted really gross and eggy. When I asked the waiter she just told me it was because of the saffron. It also had all these other random stuff in the plate but it was all sweet, there was no depth in the flavours. Again somebody had out sweet crumbs with merengues and berry compote and berries and it just was all a bit one dimensional. A little sour and a little sweet and a little less eggy would have been nice. How can you take such a classic dish and ruin it like that.
Don't try so hard to be trendy if you can't get the balance if flavours right.
J. V.
Fantastic coffee and breakfast! Thank you :)
T. R.
The food was plentiful and delicious. Staff are lovely and prices are reasonable. We came each morning for brunch during our stay in Canberra.
N. H.
Came here for breakfast with the family on the back of the prices advertised on Gus' website. Very disappointed to find that the prices were substantially higher than advertised eg. Eggs and Bacon on toast $10 on website - $14 in cafe. Mentioned this to waiter who replied 'Oh yeah, we should update that'. Hope they do so soon. Food and coffee was fine.
t. s.
Amazing food and is priced very well. Staff were really nice and love the outdoor seating.
L. J.
Staff were lovely. I was waiting for someone and they didn't bother me while waiting. Thanks.
W. Z.
We had the big breakfast (10/6/18) and cannot recomend them enough. Top coffee, top breakfast and warm outside setting, we have a dog so top spot outside. Very recommended.
M. O. (.
Tried out the cheeseburger with the extra Mac and cheese patty. Very nice will be having that one again for sure. This is a regular coffee stop for me and the staff are always very polite and happy.
J. R.
Notorious for good food and slow service, Gus' Cafe proudly claims a place in the history of Canberra's Cafe culture for having fought for outdoor seating laws to be introduced in the capital. A good menu but average coffee, and don't go here for a meal if you have limited time!
S. C.
Five stars because of their customer service, which I think is really what makes Gus’ Place special.
L. B.
Just popped in for a take away Coffee. Coffee was ok. Staff attentive. But I was overwhelmed by the amount of people inside.🤔
G. G.
Took my grandparents here while they were staying. Unbelievably good service and the quality of food was amazing
p. m.
Good food and coffee. service was nice. Excellent start to our day here in Canberra. Staff were friendly and special mention to our server Abby. Highly recommended this place.
L. B.
Nice cafe. Lovely breakfast. Had to bring own booster seat for children as they don't have highchairs. Fantastic coffee. Table service which is a huge plus for anyone with children.
A. R.
Definitely one of the oldest cafe/restaurants in civic. Great food and atmosphere. Staff are friendly welcoming and helpful but dont expect a club sandwich from here, youll have to order something a bit more exotic.
S. K.
Great coffee and eggs benny. Really like the fact they hire mentally disabled people, didn't care much for the constant staring, it actually got really weird and I was super uncomfortable but slightly aroused. Five stars!!
J. B.
Gus's cafe has been a local Canberra institution for decades and still deserves to be. The cafe manager really knows his coffee and trains his baristas well resulting in high quality espresso from the La Marzocco EP's. The food menu is solid and well priced for the area, really popular with the locals especially on weekends.
A. P.
Quick service. Nice food
V. F.
Food here is pretty good but the music can be a bit too loud if you are sitting inside.
L. L.
This is a Canberra institution that anyone who has grown up in Canberra will know and love. The food and coffee are good and the location ideal for people-watchers. It has been renovated several times over the years to keep it upmarket but cosy. If you haven't been here, you aren't Canberran. :)
C.
Rebranding or redo has done wonders, had some awful experiences previously and boycotted, but am starting to go back and enjoy.
Recommend for late coffee and dessert. Perfect spot for a date or intimate catchup.
R. L.
Good food , helpful staff, and the outside covered area is well heated, so very comfortable.
R. W.
Nice meal, came here for a light lunch. Service was a little slow initially but the staff were still really nice. Soft shell tacos were delicious!
I. J.
Fast efficient service. It was very wet today being a partially outdoor cafe but staff tried to accomodate customers as best as they could. Thanks for the delicious eggs benny and coffee.
G. M.
Most epic breakfast in Canberra. ( not very diet friendly but yummy)
G. F.
Last time i was here Gus was alive. Still the same - maybe a little more refined now.
S. M.
I ordered coffee & cake but they bring them 10 minutes apart. So by the time I got the cake the coffee was finished (had I of waited it would have been cold).
C. L.
Thought I'd give this place a try since it's been reopened and it was rather average. Had probably the most expensive roast vegetable sandwich I'd ever eaten, had to pay extra for cheese and it was tiny. Unlikely to return unless things step up a little
D. O.
Definitely glad we found Gus's for breaky, best brekky I've ever had, great customer service, love, love, love. Thanks from wollongong.
A.
Service was a little slow but food was excellent, I forgot to take a picture (that's how good the food was)
M. H.
Highly recommended for there friendliness, quick a efficient service, tasty food, goooooood coffee, warm welcome on a very cool morning!
r. m.
Absolutely amazeballs!!! Brilliant service excellent breakfast and coffee. Thanks.
L. S.
A worthwhile successor to the original cafe on this spot. Lovely staff, reasonable menu and free sparkling water with black coffee.
A. K.
Waiting 10 mins for a glass of wine.
Once might be a mistake, but twice isn't acceptable for a café which is basically trading on its name.
With an abundance of better, cheaper places nearby you will better off elsewhere
V. B.
Wonderful service, Excellent Coffee and great Meal. Will definitely be going back
H. E.
Excellent lunch venue in the centre. I recommend the spicy crab tacos. Also 5$ beer and wine specials with nice selection.
M. A.
happy hour coffee is good although they've gotten my order wrong a few times. Portion sizes are also a bit big
L. C.
Great food, friendly staff, good location. Would recommend eating at Gus's Place
K. E.
Good food, fast service and great location. Was within walking distance of our hotel in the main strip.
J. B.
Great service. Delicious meals arrive quickly. Table cleared promptly and felt welcome to stay seated chatting at table.
V. P.
The new menu is lovely here, breakfast was really decent size, priced well. I like the new look a lot.
S. M.
Nice place for coffee or food. Pleasant staff. Reasonable prices
D. P.
Haven't been back for a few years but still great coffee, now with a modern atmosphere.
L. T.
Great food and great service - the only markdown is for the overly milky coffee (but that could be a Canberra thing?).
If you're new or visiting, do yourself a favor and start here.
D. E.
Food was quite nice and prices very fair. Bit small inside but a happy customer.

Very busy cafe. Fresh and fast. Do yourself a favour and try the eggs benedict. My wife loved the signature avo.
K. H.
My fave cafe in the heart of the city. Recommend the Signature Avocado for brunch.

The service is quite terrible. Drinks should not take 20 minutes, I'm not sure what went wrong there. The food is decent, but nothing special.

Been here a few times, they serve a decent breaky but it can get quite busy. Some the tables have uneven legs.

A little oasis in the middle of town. Awesome coffee and food and great service
Found my new ‘go to’ :)

I do like Gus' Place, it's got good coffee, nice staff, eggs on toast were yummy

A brilliant french style resteraunt (without the fancy french foods). The pasta is better than I've had at some gourmet resteraunts.

Saturday early evening stop for rest with a wine and snack. Great prices and location in city center. Pleasant staff!

Food and staff were good, but they need to do something about their heating. We started out in their greenhouse-type area under heaters but it was too cold so we moved inside. It was no better in there. It's so cold my meal was cold half way through and unpleasant as a result.
D. N.
Enjoyed excellent coffee, hot chocolate and caramel slice.
D. R.
Cosy and very fast service!
B. 8.
Really friendly and helpful staff, we got a seat inside which was perfect to check out the new refurb of the cafe- modern with a nod to it’s heritage. Amazing coffees that came out quickly despite the restaurant inside and out both packed …
V. P.
The new menu is lovely here, breakfast was really decent size, priced well. I like the new look a lot.
J. R.
Notorious for good food and slow service, Gus' Cafe proudly claims a place in the history of Canberra's Cafe culture for having fought for outdoor seating laws to be introduced in the capital. A good menu but average coffee, and don't go here for a meal if you have limited time!
K. M.
Great service. Great coffee. Great breakfast. Gus never disappoints.

Food was fresh and well cooked (but std fare) nice coffee and prices ok for an upmarket city cafe . Service was so-so (waitresses were standing around chatting and we had to go & ask for a menu & to be served. After that, service was good.) Overall pleasant experience.
A. M.
Food and coffee was great, service very average, felt like because we had a baby we were a burden, my wife is allergic to eggs, but couldn't swap out even when the menu said you can.
