Comments of Patissez Cafe

Nice service and delicious food, absolutely a local gem! The pulled pork egg Benedict was really yummy, especially I like the Hollandaise sauce which was really special. The tacos were in large portion with a lot of choices of ingredients, strongly recommend the prawn taco and pulled beef brisket taco. Overall was a pleasant visit!

A popular cafe located at the Manuka Shops. They were famous for their freak shakes a long time ago but since have adapted to the market. The fried taco was quite tasty but I wish shell was crispier. The sandwich was filling and stacked with ingredients. A good brunch/lunch place if you’re in the area.

Texted Sunday morning to see if we could get a table for 5 people. This is the way they prefer to take bookings.
They replied quickly and were able to accommodate. This was unusual to be accommodated at such short notice but it was a Canberra long weekend so people were out of town. Generally you should book in advance for weekend brunch. They have a strict 1 hour, hourly seating generally.
On arrival there were lots of staff serving and cleaning. We waited a few minutes for the table.
Seated inside and were able to order at the counter. It is tight and compact inside.
Ordered 4 tacos, chicken tenders, 2 cokes, a freak shake and sweet potato and normal chips. $95 for that meal.
Food arrived quickly and was fresh. The tacos are fried and I missed this on the menu and so was expecting a soft taco. They were good just very rich. They are a big serving. The pork and the zucchini fritter taco were the best. The prawn taco is a bit light on in filling compared to the others.
The chicken tenders were well cooked and not too oily. Good portion size. Sauce is a bit spicy for people who don't like spice.
This place is talked up and is always busy. It was good food and fresh but I was expecting to be blown away. It was visually pleasing food and service was friendly, however the tag line best Cafe in the world is a bit of a hype. Would recommend as I enjoyed it. Will try something different on the menu next time.

They are famous for milk shakes, but I have to say their coffee is also awesome and cheap! The breakfast is amazing

This cafe is super cute. The staff are lovely. The service is quick and the tea is loose leaf and served in a plunger! I love it. I also live that you can get Mexican food for breakfast here. I had the huevos breakfast taco and the pulled pork eggs Benedict. The portions could be a bit bigger but that's only a minor detail. Great place to have a meal.

AMAZING SERVICE! DOG FRIENDLY! Visited the cafe on a Friday and Saturday few weeks ago. Service was flawless even though they were packed and pumping with take away orders. We drove down from Sydney and their Text-Book service *chefs kiss* brilliant, prompt reply of confirmation. Text to Book is a must if you are driving or in general just want a table!
We had informed them our Furbaby was coming with us and they accommodated us perfectly.
TACOS- are to die for, a must when you are ever in Canberra.
The Ultimate Chicken Burger is a killer, the maple sauce just drips off the burger and is just delectable and moreish!
Thank you to the team at Patissez for making our trip excellent!
R. L.
Our breakfast at Patissez was excellent from the moment we texted our booking through to the time we stood up to leave. We were greeted and immediately seated upon arriving, our coffees came just minutes after placing our order, and our food a few minutes after that. All the staff were attentive without being intrusive. Just an all-round positive experience in every facet.
And the food, damn. I had a couple of tacos (the huevos and the one with pulled pork) while my wife had scrambled eggs with smoked salmon. The portions were chockers, taste was unbelievable, and over 12 hours later I'm still thinking about how good it tasted.
Next time we come back to Canberra we will be sure to bring some friends.

The food was nice however, the eggs were a little undercooked. Service was relatively friendly. I’d recommend to eat here just make sure you book cause it’s busy. And watch out for the eggs ;)
L. C.
We had the tacos 🌮 very delicious, the hangry burger was a 10/10 and delicious! Crazy shakes are also super tasty but not good for your hips Ahahha
S. J.
The food, quantity and quality was amazing!
Must try!
H. F.
Really great tacos! This is why we went there and they didn't disappoint!
We bought our 2 dogs as well and they were extremely accommodating to them.
Would recommend and we will be back
L. C.
The shakes are a huge hit. Make sure you also try their breakfast menu!!! Some great egg options for brunch lovers.
K. R.
Not too many options, which is good sometimes... less confusion on what to order during that first visit😊. Everything we ordered were "really" good. Slightly on the expensive side for the portion served but considering the neighborhood, nothing much can be done there I guess. Book a table during the weekends else be ready to wait n watch other people enjoying the food. 😊 Going back for sure.

Place famous for their ugly freak shakes. Food had a nice blend of flavours but a limited selection for lunch (more breakfast items).
Previous experience with the shakes are that they are extremely sweet, even for a sweet tooth like myself. Had a latte that was nice and strong but the extra creama/ froth could have meant less room for the milk.
The chicken burger with mi goreng was nothing special. Not so crunchy and the fryer they fried it in probably needs a change of oil (you could tell from the fritters as well).
The fritters could have had slightly thicker batter, it tasted okay but the centre was a little too moist.
The salads were good and nicely presented.
Overall a nice experience and would go back for the salad and coffee.
D. R.
Had the excellent house made tacos today (recommend the Chancho and Los Pollos Hermanos). Pulled pork benny is also very good. Reputation of this place for their shakes is also not misplaced, they're superb.
L. H.
Great brunch spot, extravagant food options along side regular favourites. Very visually appealing, lots of the good stuff - sugar and fats. Not the healthiest of options and a few vegetarian ones but could be improved. No real vegan options. Home of the freak shake but they have much more. Lovely attentive staff and seating inside and out.
J. H.
Making a book via text was great, I message after hours on a Saturday and got a reply regarding a Sunday morning booking. I had a booking for 3 people at 9am till 10am, we sat down and then ordered at the counter. We got our drinks after 10mins of sitting down. The first plate of food came out at 930am then the next at 945am and the third plate at 10am. The food was great but by the time we all had our food the first plate was cold.
So overall good food but customer service was understanding but not apologetic.
A. P.
Lovely stuff, yummy food and kid’s are excited of special shakes
N. J. D. S.
Tacos were fully loaded!
Placed a take away order via text and was ready on time for collection. Can't wait to try all the tacos from the menu. One taco with a coffee can be considered a meal.

You can’t go wrong with food from Patissez.
My all time favourite is the zucchini fritters, the exterior crisp and fluffy interior is just to die for, not to mention the incredible garnish and sauce it gets serves with. Their shrimp taco is amazing, although it is a bit too pricey for the serving size. Their pancakes are also great if you have a sweet tooth for breakfast.
Although Patissez has a reputation for the milkshakes, I can’t help feeling that their quality with time is getting worse. Three years ago I would have 100% recommended it, but now it feels too icy and lacking of flavour. I would recommend to skip on the milkshakes and go straight for the food.
T. H.
We visited Patissez twice on a recent trip to Canberra because it was so good. The 'Freakshakes' are probably the best milkshakes I have ever had - my favourite would have to be the Cheshire Cat. The savoury food was also fantastic - we had the Korean Fried Chicken burger, Retro burger, baked eggs and Eggplant burger - all were delicious and reasonably priced. The wait staff were super friendly and twice accomodated our larger group without hesitation. We will definitely visit Patissez again when we visit Canberra in the near future!
P. C.
Stopped by for breakfast which was a pity because it was too early for one of their amazing looking freakshakes. But the breakfast menu was awesome too. Everything sounded so good it was hard to choose. I ended up going with one of the several French toast flavors while hubby went with a savory option. Portions are huge and good value for money.
N. W.
Great food, amazing service. Called 15 mins beforehand for a table and was instantly served for 8 people at arrival. Decent price and friendly staff. Perfect for today’s weather, definitely recommend and would come back!
A. F. R.
I was taking away the brekkie burger and it was coming out so fast! tasty too! thanks to give a good breakfast.
k. h.
Omg searched for a cafe for breaky last minute and I’m so glad this popped up! Our shakes were amazing and tasty, burgers sensational, service wonderful too, the waitresses were so lovely! Definitely will be back next time we’re in Canberra!! :)
V. A.
Delicious food and decent coffee. Prawn tacos were amazing and Reuben sandwich was tasty. Pretty busy on the weekends so either book ahead or go during off peak times.
J. N.
Great efficient service. The takeaway "isolation station" meals are delicious and look just as good as the menu photos. Highly recommend the corn and zucchini fritters!
T. K.
Freakshakes, doughnuts , brownies, scones are all unique and delicious with huge variety for every kind of tastebud. Presentation of meals and specialty beverages is superb. They change their menu every few months which is welcome when we visit from Sydney periodically throughout the year.
L. B.
Called in (after waiting to find a car park nearby for an eternity - Saturdays super busy around here) to try the famous Freakshakes. They were ok, but mine didn't taste as if it was blended properly and was very "powdery". And what's with the plastic cups? Cheap and nasty, not to mention very environmentally conscious. I couldn't drink it in the end. Expected a bit better from a $13 non-alcoholic beverage but that's life. Staff were friendly and passing food to other tables looked nice.
M. D.
Great service very friendly and helpful staff. Awsome food choices. Staff kept coming and making sure everything was ok and asking if we needed anything. Fully recommended this establishment for breakfast lunch or any meal.
B. C.
We came for their famous shakes n just shared it between my son n I as it’s huge....
Having deliberated for quite a while as there are plenty of choices, we ended up with Italian Stallion which was predominantly Nutella based. No regrets.... it was super delicious!not too sweet at all..... we were extremely happy after😛
Wish we could have fitted in a waffle too!!
There’s always next time!😝👍
G. M.
Delicious menu for breakfast and lunch.
Variety of drinks from coffee and tea, fresh juices, milkshakes and freakshakes.
The brownies are a must to try!
V.
My new favourite, what a gem!!!
First time I’ve been here as I had been persevering with other cafes in the same area that have all been getting worse.
The food and coffee is amazing and the girls are all so very friendly with prompt happy service.
Try the chilli mushrooms with scrambled eggs, WOW!
V. H.
Had the most amazing macadamia cookie, wish I had taken a photo but was too engrossed in its soft caramel centre, that it was gone before i knew it.
Coffee is spot on too.
M. S.
Food was amazing and great coffee too. Little pricey, but i guess ok for Manuka/ Griffith area. Presentation was fantastic and menu is quite unique. Would love to go back again.
R. E.
This place has set such a high standard for brunch places in Canberra for me now! We ordered so many things and just everything was delicious, cooked so well and just absolutely worth every penny. I’m still dreaming about the hot cakes and the El hefe 🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤
D. B.
Excellent service and the food was surprisingly good. I thought this place was just about the freak shakes, but they do a great breakfast and a pretty good coffee. I'd definitely go here again. Get there early if you want a seat though.
L. S.
Can't get excited about the food but the coffee is good, the outside garden setting for the cafe is jolly, almost French. Prices are reasonable for Manuka. Coffee good and the staff thoughtful.
H. A.
I don’t normally write reviews, but growing up in Tijuana I was really excited when I heard of a place in Canberra that did “Tijuana tacos”. Upon arriving at Patissez, all the signs of its success were there—people waiting out the door, filled seats inside and outside, and smiles all around.
Growing up in Mexico, the prices of a taco are vastly cheaper, but these loaded $12 tacos were well worth the price. I ordered four tacos: Huevos, Carne, Chancho, and La Gamba. The tortillas were beautifully done. Crispy and thick in order to hold the entirety of these massive tacos. The Huevos (think breakfast taco), Chancho (pork), and Gamba (prawn) were what I expected. Tasty and filling, but the one that I was there for was the Carne, or beef, taco—a staple Tijuana taco.
I was not disappointed and it greatly exceeded my expectations. So much so, that it completely blew the rest out of the water. This is THE taco. I quickly snapped a photo and sent it to my father back home, letting him know that as soon as international travel is allowed again I’m taking him to Patissez. The crispy and cheesy tortilla, the beautifully done beef, and the delicious guacamole made for an amazing quesataco. If I had the option to do it again, I would order the Carne taco over and over.
While my food experience was great, my one complaint has to be its customer service. The staff was lovely, but spread thin to handle Patissez success. So busy, that a waitress overlooked blood from her hand and brought my coffee with blood on the saucer, which dripped blood on the table and my new jeans. I was a bit unsure if what was on my table and saucer actually blood, but my partner who works in the health industry confirmed it was blood and later pointed out our waitress’s hand, which had a cut on it. While this normally would be a health concern, our busy waitress apologized, wiped our table, and went back to serving tables as if all was normal with a bleeding hand.
What would have otherwise been a perfect review was brought down due to this health concern. I’m sure next time will be better, but busy or not, staff should not overlook these things.
A. S.
Such a fantastic little place where you truly get more than you pay for! Purchased a takeaway Pork taco and Vote for Pedro shake as I particularly wanted to try the tacos before Anna hands over the keys. MY. SWEET. GIDDY. AUNT. It was the most amazing taco of my life. Service was quick an easy through Text to Collect. Staff were wonderful and appeared to be breezing through a busy lunchtime. Super impressive and can’t wait to go back.
G. G.
Good coffee and food. The hotcake was specially good. Wife's hot chocolate had a huge marshmallow and it was very good!
R. L.
Delicious food and a pleasant experience. The El Hefe toast was fresh, light and an overall delight.
E. T.
Perfect start to the day with the breakfast platter for 2, coffee and nutcracker milkshake. Also great service and atmosphere. The freakshake is awesome and a must try.
L. T.
A lovely little cafe to have lunch. The food was delicious and the staff were really friendly. I had the pumpkin salad, which was amazing. We also had a freakshake, which wasn't as over the top as I expected, but I was also happy about that as it wasn't sickly.
M.
Lots of unique options to choose. Well presented. Dine in is a little tight though it did have enjoyable outdoor heaters. Chip in my water cup. Service didnt stand out. It was pretty average. Prices slightly high. Juice was great.
J.
Great service and main meals. Horrible “freak shakes”, they have seen a significant decline in quality and portion size.
N. A.
My husband and I always enjoying our breakfast there. Avo standard is my favorite dish.
K.
This was the best thing I’ve done for myself in ages. I had the porridge, a coffee and one of their gluten free and vegan shakes. It was so good. Besides great food quality the service was really wonderful. I believe I was served by Steve and he was very polite, friendly and helpful. You’ll want to make sure you have time to sit down if ordering food though as they are quite busy so the wait is a bit long. But nothing that isn’t totally redeemable by the great atmosphere and warm outdoor seating.

My friend and I came to Canberra for a day. He heard about an amazing milk shake in Canberra but he couldn’t remember the name so I searched on Google. This place came out twice for the best milk shakes in Canberra! The place was very nice, great atmosphere and very friendly staff. We could not decide which milk shake to get, so many options! Finally we decided to get couple of tacos and two milk shakes !!!! For our surprise the tacos were amazing but the milkshakes which were the reason we came for were quite disappointing. I am a sugar addicted and I know what I’m talking about... I don’t really like watery milk shakes I usually never mind paying couple of dollars extras for a thicker shake. For 10 dollars I was sure the milk shake was thick. The presentation was great but super watery. Completely disappointed, the both of us, we asked one of the staff if we could go back to the counter and ask for a thick one however she said nicely that they couldn’t add more ice cream to one of the shakes because they always follow the recipe and mentioned they add ice ... ice to a milk shake? Why? ICE? Seriously... i can not understand how come a place doesn’t have a thick shake option!!! Tip: charge a couple of dollars extra and make a thick shake recipe 🥰
A. M.
Finally was able to visit Patissez cafe for lunch with a friend and we had a great time. I loved that their entire menu is available all day, including breakfast! If you’re a lover of a good breakfast burger you’ve got to give theirs a try! It was delicious however I struggled to get through it as it was huge! All of their meals are a decent size and worth what you pay for them. Great coffee, friendly staff and my only tip would be to book a table because the venue is on the smaller side. I’m glad I booked!
Highly recommend and would definitely return
P. G.
I had a fun breakfast!
S. T.
The best breakfast I've found in Canberra! The corn and zucchini fritters are just perfect and generally my go to. I love that you can just text them in the morning to book a table, it's so convenient I have the number saved in my phone!
D. J.
Great service and delicious food, I had the french toast "el hefe" and it was really good. My hubby had the corn fritter and he loved it, although it's a bit pricey, it compensates with the portion which are very generous.
Definitely coming back to try something else 😊
P. D.
Thank you for making a wonderful food at Canberra since 2015. Your food that you created are always make me happy and speechless. ,,I am very sad about the latest news and I do hope that the new owner will do love your food as you do. I still remember the first month that you are opening with 8 tables with very long line ... Anyway I respect to your decisions and looking forward to your new chapter.❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
T. C.
Good food and friendly staff. Coffee was a bit bitter for my liking but the waffles was pretty darn good
A. G.
The staff were very nice and the food was good BUT $12 per taco and $10.5 for a bowl of chips is excessive for the portion you get.
I would never recommend you sit inside, my partner and I were cramped into a corner table with people behind us, and not enough room to even sit comfortably in our chairs.
L. S.
This cute little cafe isn’t the same as what it used to be when it first opened but the food is still really good, reasonably priced, well presented and served in big portions. I’ll probably be back soon :)
C. C.
Freakshake was tasty but not amazing. Breakie burger was the same. Worth a visit to make your own mind up though!
J. M. Y. L.
Great service, awesome food! Dessert is too die for but I'm totally full after having the sandwich
M. P. (.
Friendly service. Food was so nice, looks very sweet but they have balanced the freak shakes very well.
M.
Great food. Ordered 1 the first time, was fantastic. Order 2 the second time...
A. L.
It isn't that mind blowing as the advertisement goes, a bit cheesy but in the wrong kind of way. The ice cream and fairy floss at the top is ok, but the actual milkshake is disappointed 😔, we can't even manage to finish the drink.
K. C.
No croissant, muffin or cakes are available here, so I had a doughnut (creme brûlée on the left in the picture) and the Michael Jackson freakshake.
Other sweet food availability: hot cross buns (during Easter time) and pancakes.
Spot in the sun? Yes, if it's not too cold.
M. K.
Went for our anniversary, delicious food. Nice setup with a cosy atmosphere. Recommended for anyone looking for food with a twist :)
E. K.
Amazing food and service. Arrived with 7 people and they found us a place straight alway. Doughnuts to die for! Creme Brûlée was the best!
G. S. -. L. W.
Cute cafe. I love all the food and service was quick!
M. G.
Beautiful spot nestled into the gardens of Manuka. Delicious brunch style food and of course the freak shakes are not to be missed- decadent, deliciously sweet and very instagrammable!
E. S.
Patissez has the best milkshakes EVER and the customer service is excellent. Staff are always well prepared and friendly. Service was very fast and everyone had a smile on their faces. Will definitely be back
A. F.
Read somewhere about this place as a must visit in Canberra and was little disappointed as I had lots of expectations
However food was alright
Small cafe
B. S.
Excellent service, amazing food and awesome shakes! Texting to book was convenient. Coffees were a bit too strong though. Overall, a great experience.
C. P.
Call your PT and dont cancel that Gym membership because your going to be breaking all the rules when you smash out the French toast. Bring your stretchy pants and prepare to walk off the deliciousness.
M. M.
Disclaimer: I do not have a sweet tooth.
But I had to try the freakshake @Pâtissez so I opted for a baby MJ + single shot of coffee (cause I can't do mornings without a dose of coffee).
It was one of the bests breakfast-desserts! Smooth, flavoursome and filling. And St Ali is one of the best coffee roasts that will surely linger for a lifetime. Must must must try! Too bad they aren't in Sydney!
K. v. d. M.
Milkshake was amazing. So was the breakfast. Staff were a bit slow but it wasn't to bad considering how busy it was.
J. K.
We had pulled pork eggs benedict and hotcakes. Loved the food and service- perfect!
J. N.
No longer using glass cups so not as impressive but flavour was there. The chicken burger was yummy but chips weren’t so great.
M. A.
SERIOUSLY THE BEST BREAKFAST IVE HAD IN MY LIFE. brisket taco was sensational, corn and zucchini fritters we're amazing followed by an amazing chocolate smash French toast and a vote for Pedro super freak shake
overall 10/10
N.
Nice food, nice staff. Seems like a bit of a family operation. Thought the embroidered Patagonia jumpers were cool. Hot chocolate wasn’t very nice.
C. S.
Would come back here every day of the week if I could! Amazing food and drink, best customer service. Really feel like I am appreciated every time I walk through the door. Even my parents who live in Perth feel like regulars whenever they come to visit. Thanks to the whole team for keeping me well-fed, well-caffeinated and well-looked after.
A. A.
Great place, delicious food, and coffee ☕️❤️
E. a. H.
Always love this place for a great meal, have never been let down after many visits since they opened. The chilli funghi is my fave dish ... I get hungry just thinking about it! Great staff as well always super friendly and helpful!
P. N.
Had my first banofreak shake and it was pretty awesome. Lots of other flavours so will return to try a few more.
M. F.
Food is just incredible. Service is awesome and being such a busy restaurant very accomodating. All in all easily one of the best cafes in ACT.
C. P.
Food were good and service was quick. Just disappointed with the milkshake and my expectation was higher after hearing about the craze about this place. :)
R. L.
Great food, decent price. Quick and very pleasant service.
M. R. K.
Breakfast here is amazing, so filling and tasty. Been there a few times while down in Canberra and always am satisfied. Drink options are also great, they have over the top milkshakes that are great. Bit on the pricey side but worth it for a really nice breakfast.
F. G.
Beautiful food, beautiful service. Thank you for being so kind on a rainy day!! :)
B. N.
Had breakfast there this morning and it was freaking fantastic. The hotcakes were fluffy and crispy, and the wife's English breakfast was delicious. I'll definitely be back.
The only issue was the service was a little but slow, but again they were super busy and it looked liked the staff were trying their best.
A. S. (.
The crazy milkshakes are as fun as described. The toppings are creative and delicious and the milkshake itself is quite nice too.
Now, I personally prefer things which are not overly sweet. I found their salty nuts flavor a bit too sweet after the first couple a sips. The flavor is definitely there though and the pecan pie on top was tops.
If you are like me and prefer something less sweet, the chocolate flavored options would probably work better.
Food wise I only tried their burgers which to be honest, are nothing amazing. Pretty standard taste wise. None the less, it is relatively affordable for what you get.
Their service is fantastic. Nothing I can complain about! The staff are attentive and friendly.
E. K.
Breakfast was delicious and good sized portions. We had three small kids with us and they were very accommodating, albeit it was 7.30am in the morning so a little quite. We also tried a doughnut and it was very tasty, we had to stop ourselves from getting more. Will definitely be back again
J.
We had breakfast here this morning and it was really great. The breakfast was delicious, we didn't have the freakshakes though, but still had a really enjoyable experience. I had the BBQ bacon and egg roll (with all the goods) and it was delicious! There was a little bit of a wait, but it was so busy, that it was expected. The staff were friendly. I would 100% go back here again and again.
J.
The best place to eat in Canberra hands down! I've become a French toast regular here now and would highly recommend it!!
A. K.
Such an amazing cafe! Great service, friendly staff and amazing management. This cafe puts in effort for all the small things and it shows! Food, coffee and shakes were all delicious, well priced and GREAT serving sizes. Will definitely be back!! 10/10 would recommend for locals as well as anyone visiting canberra
A. L.
This place is a must visit for their milkshakes. Delicious and innovative, the flavours and presentation are one of a kind.
S.
Food and shakes were amazing.
The shakes were delivered promptly, but after waiting for more than 30 mins, they realized our orders didn't make it to the kitchen. They promptly apologized and offered our orders to be on the house. I liked their honesty. Hopefully they take note that their service is the one taking a hit at their reviews and improves.
R. I.
The smashed avocado at $22 including poached eggs is up there on price but was actually one of the best I've had, and I've had a few. The coffee (long black) from St Ali was perfectly extracted, well balanced and juicy and the service was very good. I would recommend this place and I'd return, what more is there to say?
N. R.
A beautiful cafe with eye to detail!
Incredible coffee matched to their impressive food selection. The spanish baked eggs are divine to the point I've been on three separate occasions alone - just for this particular item.
Small but mighty this cafe always feels so warm & inviting. Take away coffee from Phil is always a pleasure in my day, not to mention Anna's excellent service and genuine care for her customers.
I will gladly encourage my friends and family to visit Patissez on all occasions big or small!
m. m.
The breakfast was incredible that we had to come back 2 days in a row. The staff are friendly and the attention to detail in every single dish was outstanding.. definitely a must if you visit Canberra
I. G.
Well worth the wait. The serving sizes are huge and of good quality. The milkshakes are just fantastic. Whether or not it's just a fad, they really do live up to the hype. We've been numerous times and have always found the staff to be super friendly.
T. S.
The milkshakes look stunning & the Pretzel one was delicious but very sweet & filling. The milkshakes would be good on a hot summer day for an afternoon treat.
B. S.
Amazing food, friendly staff, extremely organized in COVID times!
P. H.
Really good milkshakes. Consumer beware! They are SUPER sweet.
I've come here twice now. The first time we had quite a long wait for a table, however service was quick. This time, it was the other way around.
I'm not sure if you can call ahead to reserve a table or not but if they do, I'd advise to do so! Save yourself the wait.
The waitresses here are always courteous & friendly.
S. V.
Their milkshakes are to die for. My only complaint is that there isn't nearly enough seats, but the whole area suffers from that problem.
G. S.
I usually come here for a coffee and muffin to take away. They gave me spinach and fetta muffin by accident instead of my usual apple cinnamon, it's the only one I never tried because I was under the impression spinach and fetta wasn't delicious. I was wrong.
A. F.
We went to Canberra on a trip over from NZ for this cafe! We were pleased, the wait was fine, it was a Wednesday morning and the place was pumping! The staff are very friendly and very efficient. The mini milkshakes were large enough for us. The banana shake was good, the blueberry one was OK. I think we missed out not getting the Nutella one. Worth a visit if you are in town.

Went there for lunch on a Thursday, seated right away. Service was friendly and the burger "The Classic Man" was awesome! The Freakshake "Mint Condition was disappointing though, for something with mint in it's name it wasn't very minty at all, still a decent shake but wouldn't get it again for the price it is.
W. J.
Love their beef taco, the hot choc was awesome and the milkshakes taste so good and special!
J. I.
Excellent food, cosy setting and atmosphere, super friendly staff. Owners are lovely, hard working people too. Always made to feel welcome and they bend over backwards to find guests a table. Favourite cafe in Canberra by a mile!
E. R.
THE BEST BREAKFAST IN CANBERRA!
Delicious, well presented food and friendly service. The owners have a genuine care for quality service and customer satisfaction and this shows the moment you arrive. A menu to cater for all and outdoor seating so you can bring your dog!
S.
Quick service, famous for their monster sweet smoothies and drinks. On the pricier side of cafes. The Christmas menu deal seems alright in terms of value.
R. W.
Their Freak Shakes are rich and sweet. It's loaded over the top which is what you expect. However the 'syrup syringe' detracts from the overall experience of the shake.
The breakfast burger and bacon & egg roll was done perfectly. Bacon cooked crispy but not dry and the eggs cooked with runny yolks on soft fresh buns.
L. m.
Service was greatamd servers were very friendly , freak-shake, burger and chips and ailoi all very tasty. However the burger buns was bit too toasted for my liking, harder texture. Probably should have told them not to toast too much had I known that it was toasted.
B. M.
Staff were great, service was quick and the food was amazing!
S. R.
Awesome freak shakes, but get in early because they do run out of some of the range (occasionally all}
E. J.
Absolutely delicious! I had the Berry Babe French toast and a 70% hot chocolate and loved every single mouthful of it!
It may be the best thing I've ever eaten in my life 😍
A. S.
The milkshakes, especially the choco mint, are out of this world! Always come here if I need comfort food. Super friendly waitstaffs and yummy tacos too.
H. O. A. (.
Exploding with popularity for a period of time, Patissez serves some good milkshakes but I don't think it is worth the wait (2 hours at the peak of the craze). The milkshakes are simply too sweet for me, not to mention the monstrous size of it. Give it a go for the craze, since the frenzy seems to have died down. AND they are now also available at civic (in the same building as harvest, the coffee place).
L. L.
A reasonably good cafe, offering good coffee and some pretty standard menu options... as well as its worldwide claim to fame, the Freakshake. These went nationally and globally viral in 2016: milkshakes crammed with goodies served in elaborately decorated glasses... and this is the original place they started.
If you're a milkshake fan, or just have a huge sweet tooth, then you should definitely come here as part of your pilgrimage; otherwise, there are other cafes nearby with more interesting food options and better coffee.
O. B.
The food is good, quite expensive but nice. It would be nice to be able to order from the table. The owner delivers terrible service but other staff were friendly
O. C.
Really good freakshakes "the king" was awesome then donuts were good too. Fries were not great.
K. P.
A year ago I would've given 5 stars but now I can't. The freak shakes are no longer special and served in plastic take away cups. Honestly now they're just over priced milkshakes. We have photos of what they used to be. The salmon for lunch was over priced because it was a small serving of thin smoked salmon where as the price was more appropriate for a salmon fillet. This is the second time in the last 6 weeks we have been disappointed and unfortunately at $96 for 3 lunches and 3 shakes we will be choosing to spend our money elsewhere. The worse thing a business can do is stop doing what made them popular in the first place.
K.
The vegie burger I had at Patissez was one of the best I have eaten in a long time. After coming back to Sydney I have been wondering how soon I can get back there for another! Enough said. 5 stars!
B. S.
Food is so delicious. Def recommend. Love that you can book by texting them as I hate calling places.
R. B.
Had the date night shake and it was fabulous. Awesome service. Didnt have to wait to order. The two waitresses were lovely and made sure everything was fine. I arrived near the close time, they told me that it was ok, not to hurry. I didnt feel rush and I got a donut :). Thank you very much. If I'm going back to Canberra, I will definitely stop there again.
R. B.
The proprietors of this establishment have some cooking show Fame; the winners or runner up of My Kitchen Rules or a similar show. Their freakshakes are not for the faint hearted with multiple layers of cream, ice cream, milk Nutella and it other assorted goodies like pretzels and popcorn. They're cooked food is rather brilliant as well and the hamburger will happily feed 2 people . certainly worth a trip
v. s.
Best food EVER!!! ❤️😍😋Been here twice on our trip to Canberra! Food was served on time and quality of food was great!
s.
All 3 dishes we ordered were delicious. Would come back again to try their other tacos! Great customer service.
D. T.
Burger delicious, the cakes sublime and the freakshakes iconic.
the coffee is great and the barista freepours ferns like a pro.
they replaced our burger no questions when there was a miscommunication.
the waiters are brisk and friendly.
will dine again.
M. C.
Consistently amazing food from Patissez! It is our go to every weekend and we’ve never been disappointed 😍 From their delicious brekky options to their awesome service, this place is a MUST go-to in Canberra!
W. D.
Mmmmmm mmmm mmm mm mmmmm YES YUMMY DELICIOUS
T. Y. L.
Famous for its FreakShakes but also a good breakfast and lunch menu to back up the sweets. Extraordinarily large portions and good value for money. Both healthy and calorie laden options available. Freak Burger is a must for burger addicts, while the smoked trout with a pile of greens is a delicious healthy choice.
R. Y.
Was the half hour wait for a table worth it? Yes.
Was the food awesome? Yes.
Will I have another freakshake in the future? Not for as long as I live.
Was a 10% surcharge on a Sunday absolutely crazy? YES!
Let's get this first part off my chest - a 10% surcharge on Sunday and 15% on a public holiday is absolutely insane. It. Is. A. Lot!
Now, down to business. The food we ordered was great. The Spanish omelette...chorizo...enough said. I wished they'd cut up the chorizo into smaller pieces and more throughout the omelette though. The sauce on the omelette was noiiiceeee.
The freakshake...we ordered a mini mint one for $11.90 and we had trouble finishing it! There were people coming in ordering one each of the regular sized shakes...and finishing them. I love my sweet foods, but this is just crazy! There is so much packed in there...thank the lawd I had a piccolo to wash down the sweetness! That's not to say it didn't taste delicious...it was just too much!
Yep, that's my freakshake novelty need satiated. And let's never have another one again.
K. M.
Consistently excellent. Have been at least a dozen times and food is always excellent, as is the coffee and the service.
D. C.
Great over-the-top milkshakes with incredible decorations on the glass...but be prepared to wait. Also get in early otherwise the milkshakes run out! Excellent red velvet cake too.
E. R. [.
Tried one of their freak shakes and it is amazing!!! Their food are delicious as well.
P. I.
Visited Patissez for the first time in the four years we been in Canberra. The brekkie options are good. We shared a plate of the Zucchini and corn fritters. It came with three big sized fritters, two poached eggs and feta. The fritters tasted great, had a good crunch but were a tad bit oily and salty. We also got a bowl of fries that came spiced with a really nice smokey peri peri mix, would recommend. We didn't ordered any of their famous freak shakes but will go back another time.
Things to try:
Freak shakes
Pastries
Brekkie
L. W.
I made a mistake and got the salted caramel, the correct choice should have been the nutella. Of course this place is popular so be aware there will be a wait but it's mostly worth it. The mini jugs were about the right size for me.
E. W.
Such a diverse menu with so many delicious options!! Fast and friendly service always 😊
J. Q.
Surprisingly the wait we braced for wasn't incredibly long! As much as I would have been happy to wait 1/1.5hrs as we were told for a table (I considered this very good, compared to previous reviews) around 10:30am on a Sunday morning, we opted for Take Away, which was estimated 10-15 minutes.
We 3 hungry (and mildly hungover) travellers were directed inside to the counter where there were plenty of staff in a flurry, trying to make a smooth service flow. They were all run off their feet - and credit to them - from observing them they were handling things as well as they could. Some had better "customer service faces" than others, but hey... We are all human :)
I got the "Salty Nutz" #FreakShake and was quite the yum! I didn't know you could have them hot or cold - I had mine warm and it was a great choice :) ... I guess I expected them a little thicker in the actual milk bit, but it was more about the novelty I guess :) and don't get me wrong. I loved it! So much more Vanilla Bean in it than I expected so that was a definite plus!
We also got the Max Pât breakfast roll Take Away and HOLY MOLEY it was MASSIVE. If you want to finish both of these, PACE YOURSELF. Don't expect to finish them both really fast. You will fail... Unless you're a competitive speed eater... then go for your life!
They have a text message "MyBuzz" system which let's you know when your order is ready. What we didn't know that it would buzz twice. Once for Drink, and once for Food. Naturally, the drink was faster, but once we clarified, all was good. We ended up waiting about 25/30minutes all up for all of the orders (three of us paying separate, remember?) So we were pretty happy with the timing.
I must give my mentions to Dimitri and Louis, who were our Front of House people: calm, professional and helpful, with a nice dash of fun. They were reassuring other clients that their tables would be available soon, and they checked up on our orders too, which they didn't have to do. Loved your services!
Confession: seeing reviews previously on here and TripAdvisor, I was interested particularly on the customer service aspect today, and I was impressed. Considering it's a tiny café, they deal with the pressure well.
And a PSA to all clients at any venue who aren't in the Hospitality Industry, just a friendly reminder that we are all human. Mistakes are made, and this place is not Buckingham Palace. Problems rise, just like any other Industry, and Businesses deal with them in what they think the best way possible is at the time. This is a Café, not a Michelin Star Award Winning joint - if things are popular, expect a delay. And remember, look at the way you're treating the Waitstaff (before shooting your mouth off), because chances are if you're not treating another human with respect and kindness, it's a lot harder for them to treat you the same :)
OK. I got a little passionate, so I will try and attach a picture :)
Oh yes, and I do recommend this place ;)
p. y.
Loved the Nutella Freak Shake, sweet tooths dream.
Cookies & Cream also great, not too sure 'bout the Christmas trial shake.
The service was awesome, made too feel like a guest by gorgeous hostess..
Kid friendly - Serena & Leo both loved the experience...
G. B.
Decadent milkshakes. Maybe a little too decadent - half a milkshake was enough sugar for me to feel a tiny bit ill afterwards. Definitely a good place to check out for anyone with a sweet tooth. There was a bit of a wait, but it was handled well - you can register your number and they'll text you when your table is free.
W. E.
Most famous for the "Freakshake", but my daughter loves the Strawberry Milkshakes and says they are the best (they must make their own syrup from scratch)! Great for coffee and treats of course and nice location next to the Manuka Lawns for kiddie fun
C. M.
We had the corn fritters!
Delicious! Professional and friendly service aswell. It was a busy Sunday morning but they moved them in and out quickly! Both thums up for Patissez! 👍👍
J. V.
Oh my Lord! Had one of the famous freak shakes.....they really should offer a service providing a wheelchair to people's car though! What a fabulous experience and we can't wait to visit again next time we're in the ACT
H. R.
The prawn tacos are amazing. The burger with the noodles is a bit too much for me. But definitely go for the tacos. Delicious.
T. W.
Well known for its freakshakes.one is probably enough for two people. Some are just right while others are too sweet. Cakes look amazing but taste like disappoitment. Very small cafe.
A. b.
Amazing food and the freak shakes are 10/10
K. G.
The food was amazing!! Had the corn and zucchini fritters and could not fault one thing about them. Crisp and tasty. You MUST try a freakshake, had the Pretzella and it was so delicious.
B. H.
French toast is amazing, enough for two people. Great coffee. We will be back.
H. M.
Will definitely recommend this place to everyone! The food is amazing!!! And the service is spectacular. So friendly and welcoming. Coffee tastes sooo good also. Will definitely be coming back a third time 😊😊😊
C. S.
Fantastic dessert bar, the freakshakes are all amazing and the desserts are all delicious. I'd highly recommend coming here if you haven't already
W. K.
Staff friendly. My mint freak shake was unfortunately quite bland. Cream topping tasteless and shake itself just crushed ice with colouring. The chocolate at the bottom provided some flavour.
S. B.
Yummy bacon and egg roll, very nice freakshake. The service was great and friendly. Lovely place to go for lunch!
A. F.
Best tacos in Canberra.
Great fast service and lovely staff.
K.
Great food, great location, and service with a smile. Always a wonderful selection of tasty treats to have with your choice of beverage. Stop in for breakfast or lunch and watch the world go by.
S.
Great milkshakes and food. They are famous for their super indulgent Freakshakes. Service may be a little slow when busy; such as Saturday mornings.
J. O. M.
Love this cafe! The food and service is ALWAYS next level (:
m. g.
Absolutely love everything about this place. The staff are so friendly and the food is AHMAZING!
Literally best pancakes ever!
H.
The better of the cafes in Manuka. Booking required for breakfast on weekends. Coffee is good. Staff are friendly and organised.
C. H.
Most well known for their freak shakes, but the food and coffee are really good also. Friendly service and good atmosphere.
R. W.
I love love loved this place! Both times I went, I had an amazing time. I didn't wait long at all and the food was freaking AMAZING! I had the Get piged mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. I love the milk shakes and the service was great both times.
A. K.
Friendly staff with fantastic food. Very busy during peak hours, make sure to make bookings.
M. C.
Generous serves. Nice staff. Average price for a nice cafe.
L. K.
Great shakes. Famous world over for their freak shakes. The GayPat was very tasty but their food is even better than their shakes. Pulled pork sandwich. Amazing!
A.
Really original food and great service. Was a bit put off by an obnoxious patron swearing loudly, they can't help that of course, but then I realised she was the co-owner...
A. M.
Presentation is fantastic, however the milkshakes taste just like your average milkshake and the base of the lemon meringue tart was very hard. A bit over priced.
b.
corn and zucchini fritters are the best breakfast in Canberra full stop.
K. L.
Great atmosphere! Food was great - coffee was excellent. The staff were friendly and attentive.
T. B.
The staff are super accommodating even with challenging customers :). The shakes have a well deserved reputation. The food was good but not great.
E. P.
The pictures online made it look better than it was. Thevstaff were great, but the display cabinet was empty and breakfast was in normal bread, nothing exciting.
D. D.
Worth the drive to Canberra alone. Creme brulee donut is to die for, followed closely by the nutella. A myriad of flavours. Great breakfast and lunch options too.
S. A.
Very busy for good reason. This gorgeous place is superb in every way, food, coffee, heaters and beatiful service. Been twice this weekend and highly recommend.
T. D.
Wow!! Fantastic pastries here all cooked by the owners and my god they are amazing!! Food is great and coffee is made with passion
No hestitation recommending Phil and his wonderful cafe
S. C.
The milkshakes look cool but taste like pure sugar, or rather just crap. Weirdly enough the only good milkshake is the vegan one?
C. M.
Great coffee, outstanding food for either breakfast or lunch. Highly recommend eating here!
Z. A.
This place is amazing!! The freak-shakes were so good. They look amazing and taste even better. The service is really friendly also.
H. N.
Amazing food and wonderful service. Freakshakes are always a win, and the breakfast platter (for two) is a massive winner! :)
R. B.
Delicious food and drinks every time, was quite busy even on a Monday afternoon but that certainly says something about the food!!! By far worth the wait however do give yourself enough time if coming around closing as the kitchen sometimes closes a little early!
T. R.
The breakfast share platter is the best value in Canberra. Super friendly service as well.
R. B.
Staff are beyond fantastic....and the food is up to the same standard. The shakes are almost TOO good. I'll be back; but I need to recover from the Freakshake first....
O. T.
Best tacos I've ever had and the service was so quick
J. C.
Apple Pie Hotcakes were outstanding!!
M. B.
Best damn Mocha in town, always doggo friendly. Our favourite breakfast spot
C. G.
Excellent food and brilliant service! Redemption to my Canberra food experience 😊 Kudos to the team, highly impressed!
J. L.
Lovely. They sell freak shakes so they're huge. Make sure you arrive with an empty stomach or you gotta share it with someone else.
C. L.
This cafe is one of my favorites, been here many times and each time it impresses.
Great selection, friendly service.
Highly recommend
R. M.
Good food, great location. Service could have been a little better. I think the floor staff had had a very busy Sunday lunch and weree
a bit worn out by the time I got there.
A. C.
Everyone should eat here! We loved this place. Great atmosphere, friendly service, and INCREDIBLE shakes
S. H.
It's ok. Went there for their famous Freakshake. It was impressive looking tasted decent. No real desire to eat there as an actual cafe though.
J. W.
Food here is awesome. Love the mint chocolate freakshakes though, absolutely amazing. We stop by here everytime we're in Canberra.
L. C.
So Delicious foods, specially the burger & fries & yummy hot cake. The staff have good service.
j. b.
Had the little one walk for 20mins with the reward being one of the awesome looking sweets to find that there were none and the pics posted were all of items that are no longer available. Good service but disappointed...
K. W.
Nice drink and friendly waitress. :)
B. G.
Took the kids to try the Freakshakes from Patissez. They were amazing. Great staff, service and food.

S. S.
The best French toast in my life and great breakfast platter.
P. L.
You must try the Miss Bircher porridge, it's like having dessert for breakfast, but healthier! Super friendly staff :)
M. S.
The service is great but the treats are a bit over the top for my taste. Something to tick off the list but haven't been back since
