Poppy's cafe at the Australian War Memorial is a great place to grab a bite to eat or a coffee. We had breakfast here before your tour of the memorial (family big 4). There are plenty of seats inside and out. I highly recommend their bacon and egg roll. The coffee is also great and I'm a fussy coffee drinker.

The cafe seating is nice, inside and out. The view outside is nice looking back towards Parliament House. The food is fresh but oriented towards the "quick bite" type meals. You can get pre-made sandwiches, slices and bakery goods. They have a small hot food menu with limited options. The food is good though and the service is quick. Even if you're eating in, you're food comes in a takeaway container. I suppose people don't go to the War Memorial for the snacks.

Very comfortable and clean facilities, but the food is quite over-priced for what you get. The fries that accompanied the burger were unfortunately a bit overdone and sauce costs extra on top.

Visited for breakfast in Aug 2019. A nice cosy place. There were enough breakfast options to choose from. One things needs to be mentioned that I was served cold mocha while it was supposed to be a hot drink. It appeared as if my order was kept on the kitchen shelf for quite a while. That's why 3 stars. They have outdoor seating as well which would be great in good weather. Overall recommended for families also. But do not forget for extra instructions at the counter to serve you hot food.

This is the cafe out the back at the Australian war memorial. It’s surprisingly large with good indoor and outdoor areas. It was going off today and that’s unsurprising. It’s Anzac Day eve. Service was ok. The coffee here was just acceptable. It’s an average experience at best. Needs a lift to go to next level.

I came here on a recent trip to Canberra with my family. There is a wide selection of food and drinks to choose from. Staff are friendly. While dining in this cafe you have the option to sit inside or outside.

Good coffee, great scones. Has water refills for the hit summer days and fairly clean bathrooms. Only gripe is it's a little far from the main entrance/exit to the War Memorial (probably respectfully). This might be an issue for those slower on their feet. There is another cafe inside the memorial/museum, beyond the aviation section on main floor with less choice, more fast food oriented.

We arrived just as the kitchen closed and the manager was great with the staff and asked them if they could fill our order. The food was great but even more impressive was the staff inclusive of the front and back of house and management. Turned a possible disappointing situation into an extremely positive one. No idea why there are so many bad reviews here - maybe we have been lucky! We've been 3 times and every time the bacon and egg rolls and coffee has come out quick, hot and delicious! We went yesterday (mothers day) and was expecting to wait ages for our food, , but nope - coffee and E&B rolls out in under 8 minutes.

The new café complex was sorely needed and the architecture does justice to the strong emotions that one has when visiting the War Museum. A good place for a light lunch in evocative surroundings. Even though it was a Saturday, the queues moved quickly and our food came quickly. There’s plenty of parking even when it is very busy as it was when we went on Saturday afternoon. If you can’t get into the main parking area there is another one behind the main building so try there as well.

Conveniently located next to the Australian War Memorial, Poppy’s provides a welcome place to relax and refuel before heading experience the Memorial. Many cakes and sandwiches ready made and on display, I opted for a burger and chips and had no regrets. Deliciously crispy chips and tasty bacon layered burger made for an enjoyable lunch.

Lovely place to enjoy a meal or refreshments before or after a visit to the Australian War Memorial and Shrine of Remembrance. And the story of the name is quite different from what I had thought, and very fitting. The meal was lovely, as was the coffee!

Coffee was luke warm and too much froth, the cups were only half full. Breakfast was served quick and was it should be, other than no butter for the toast. We returned later that day for a iced chocolate which was ordinary. The vanilla slice wasnt cool as it should be and as such wasnt very nice. I think they had trainee kids on being a Monday. Need to lift their game.

Poppy's Cafe is located on the Australian War Memorial grounds and opens early, 1.5 hours before the Memorial. Perfect for travelers as it's possible to skip breakfast at hotel and take a taxi straigh to the Museum. Highly recommend "Digger's Breakfast" - the biggest and the most essential dish in the menu!

I've been to Poppy's quite regularly, and really like the decor and atmosphere. I don't really find their prices unreasonable in comparison to many other Canberra cafes. I've never struck rude or unhelpful staff, although sometimes they seem a bit disorganised! However the many comments about stone cold drinks ring true - it often seems to happen, even when not that busy, that drinks are prepared fairly promptly, but then left to sit on the counter waiting to be delivered. The food has been mostly good, but occasionally varies (different chef?) eg one Beef Pot Pie was really good, chunky beef and veges in the pie, but next time filled with runny beef mince and few veges! I've filled out their on-site feedback form, and have heard on the grapevine that the Restaurant Manager has changed recently. Here's hoping!
