Very busy cafe, but soooo many options for dessert. Came back twice during our 4 days in Canberra. Opens later than more cafes too which is great. Portions are decent sized too. We had a group of 7 and sat outside, which is.a bit dirty (ground need to be swept a bit, and tables weren't being cleaned fast enough). No service outside except for when they bring the food to you - you have to order inside and take a number.

Extremely lovely and friendly staff in this cafe with a wide variety of cakes and ice cream. A heaven for people with a sweet tooth or pasta and pizza which looked delicious. We got waffles and crepes with banana and strawberries and a red velvet cake which were all scrumptious. Would recommend the red velvet cake and service

A nice Italian restaurant and cafe located at the heart of Canberra cbd. They offer all the classics and a good variety of cakes. I had the blood orange sorbet which was refreshing, tangy and slightly bitter. The pistachio mango square cake was also well balanced. The customer service definitely needs improvement as staff are always confused over customers orders. But overall a good experience and lively place.

Nice gelato. Very very busy. Great you don't need to go in to get your gelato. We back during the evening to get dessert but the line up inside and out was huge. Desserts did look nice thought. Will go back for sure.

This is a busy city institution for its gelato, cakes, pizza and other Italian fare. Food: 4 star Wait time: 1 star The display of cakes and pastries is mouth-watering and it always gives me a difficult time to make a choice (or two), which surely sets off all sorts of health alarms. However, unless you are prepared to spend a lazy day in the cafe, I would recommend take-away because being so busy, it always takes a long time for orders to complete. I have tried to avoid the wait by always just ordering cakes and drinks, but for whatever reason, the cakes could take 20 minutes to half an hour to be served even though they are already pre-sliced.

Really great variety of gluten free cakes and desserts here (they make them themselves!). Decent coffee, plenty of seating inside and out. Seating is somewhat close together so if you have any mobility issues this may be somewhat difficult. Staff were super friendly and prices were really reasonable.

I would give this place 3.5 stars if I could. It's a super convenient location and is always popular particularly with the displays of gelato, desserts and their wines and liqueurs. I always enjoying coming here but often times the desserts can be inconsistent and I've had some very dry cakes and desserts from Via Dolce for quite a high price and so it can be disappointing when the desserts aren't up to standard. Their hot drinks are great and their gelato isn't too bad and overall a nice late night cafe in the middle of the city.

This place has decent food and looks really nice, but is waaaaay too busy. Far too many tables for how small the kitchen is, 45 minute wait for basic food like toast or omelettes. Even the premade dessert on display take a while to come because the staff are so run off their feet. Just be prepared to spend at least and hour at this cafe.

The attention to detail and overall atmosphere created by this cafe is breathtaking. It creates a strong breakfast at Tiffany's aesthetic with beautiful music and a caring staff. We ordered the Diplomatica and carrot walnut cake alongside a pot of Earl Grey tea. While it isn't the most price friendly, it certainly is more than worth it. (Apologies for the half eaten photos we couldn't resist)

Woodfire pizza and delicious desserts! We had the Nutella crepe that was so yummy and generous with their serving of Nutella. Serving was friendly in this family run establishment and wide variety of gelato was a house favourite. Limited seating so come early or late.

Incredible selection of cakes, desserts and gelato ice cream. The worst part is deciding what you really want. They also make decent wood fire oven pizza and the most wicked Italian hot chocolate. When they write 'extra thick', you better believe it. I highly recommend it if you are chocoholic. My wife liked their waffles too.

Perfect location for this venue on the corner, perfect for summer when the doors are open to serve Gelato. As soon as we walked in all we saw were cakes, chessecakes, cannoli, slices so many to choose from but for this time we just had these three which were delicious. I would recommend if you around civic and wanting dessert to check out this place! Featured below are the Vanilla Slice, tiramisu cake and a chocolate vanilla cream filled cannoli.

Average coffee for a very long wait. The staff seemed polite, and I have ye to try the food but as far as a quick stop for a coffee, it's not quite right

Via Dolce tries to be fancy but just doesn't quite know what it's doing. The staff are nice, but are uncertain and timid - often seen wandering around with plates of food trying to find the right table. The food was okay, but just okay. The coffee was good, but a flat white shouldn't come with an inch of froth. At about $25 per person for breakfast, you've got to be getting the basics right - otherwise I may as well just get hotcakes and McCafe coffee.

What's good :- Pizza's and Gelatos. Experience :- We enjoy having Pizza's every time we visit this place. There are enough outdoor places and you can choose them based on your privacy. Watch out for :- Service might be slow due to peak times(Friday evenings). As it gets busy, make sure you sit away from the door/cash register.

Nice decor. Tried the baked cheesecake, pistachio mango slice, hot chocolate and Italian hot chocolate. All were good, loved the pistachio mango slice (more so without the cream on top), it has a nice airy texture which the sweet mango cuts through. i've never had Italian hot chocolate but basically it tastes like a heavy dark chocolate cream pudding :) I guess I came on a good day since service was good.

The best place in Canberra for your sweet tooth, creme brulee was absolutely delightful and the crack was sharp (if you know you know), the crepes with pistachio gelato was delicious on a cool night. Service was on point, very friendly and welcome.

We were in Canberra last week and found this amazing cafe. The staff were fantastic extremely friendly. Breakfast was so good ( we had the bacon and egg rolls, with cappuccino combo), we also purchased some cakes for morning tea absolutely delicious. We enjoyed it so much that we went back for dinner. The pasta and pizza’s were great. Thank you we will definitely be back next time we are in Canberra.

Visited for takeaway dessert. The range is very extensive. They have sponge cakes, cheesecakes, tarts, slices and a number of other European style dessert items. Fruity and creamy, chocolatey! They have everything! You can eat in or get takeaway. They don't have many seats inside and it can get busy after dinner. Delicious! Definitely recommend the peanut butter tart.

Scott is a knowledgeable, helpful and friendly staff. However I can't say the same about the other wait staff. They were dressed smart but seemed unhappy to serve and didn't have basic serving etiquette. Scott certainly saved the day. The interior is cramped but superior food quality made this worthwhile. I started with the Tiramisu. All the elements held their own and yet came together in a beautifully creamy and velvety experience. As it was cold I decided to have the soup of the day Cauliflower & Leek with Thyme. I was expecting it to be uninspiring but was blown away by its wholesome and hearty flavor. The 2 generous toast cuts were perfect in mopping the soup up too. The place deserves 5 stars once they get their customer service training and delivery up and consistent.

Everything about our experience with Via Dolce was nothing more than perfect. The owner (we think it was the owner) came around to all the patrons making sure everything was fine, including us. Service from him as well as everyone working there was great. Food was exactly how it was meant to taste and looked just as good. Never had a cake here that has been stale or had that horrid refridgerated taste. They do tend to sell out of the popular cakes on busy nights and it can be hard to get a table in the evening. They do offer take away so you never have to miss out .

Great Italian cakes and gelato. Also has fantastic hand stretched wood fired pizzas. Often very busy especially on Friday and Saturday evenings. Friendly and quick service. Gelatos are ordered over the gelato display counter, though everything else is ordered by the counter by the front door.

The desserts here are 5 star, but I only get 5-star experience once in a while in this place. When the cakes are fresh, then truly the best cakes in Canberra. But, I have got hard/unfresh pastries here a bit too often to trust this place fully. Again, I love the aesthetic and the floral serve-ware but can hardly ever enjoy the experience due to cramped tables and awkward layout. Service is a miss during busy times as well.

I tried this today and the flavour choc mint and Sicilian Cassata is highly recommend Per scoop ($4.50 or something) which is cheaper than gelatissimo which usually my go to place. We had breakfast at this place before driving back to Sydney in our recent trip to Canberra. The staff was very helpful and we shared the breakfast special that includes a freshly made bacon and egg roll and two coffee. It helped us kick start our day. We sat on outside table with fresh air and look at people walking past. Will try the gelato in our next trip.

This was never a restaurant that my girlfriend and I actively sought out for but rather one we found ourselves stumbling upon. Canberra was a rest stop for us whilst we aimed our sights for Jindabyne and food was definitely on our minds in this space of respite. We knew we wanted something different, something that wasn't available in Sydney - the restaurant, not the food per se - and within close distance from Canberra Centre. Via Dolce was the closest thing that fitted the bill. Mind you, we came into the restaurant during Easter Saturday, perhaps the only period within that holiday period where things are locally open. It truly was jam-packed in that midday rush, with a short line even forming for people to get a taste of their displayed gelato. We got a table inside, of which a waitress ushered us to, and was immediately treated to a white menu with an assortment of pizzas and a handful of pasta to choose from. With a few minutes of scanning and contemplating, our salivation for food eventually led us to the Via Dolce Special (Pizza) and the Ricotta & Spinach Ravioli. For the sake of being direct, the food was indeed delicious with an emphasis on the pizza. It was not by any means a game-changer for me but it was one where I couldn't find myself feeling sick from reaching slice after slice. The pasta acted for me as a sort of break in the midst of my pizza consumption and provided me with a delicate sourness from the sauce that was enticing when allowed to pause and soak the flavour in; again, much like the pizza, not earth-shattering by any means but delicious nonetheless. Hey, but the pasta did get the attention of an elderly woman on my left, who seemed keen to give it a try the next time she came back to the restaurant (it seemed her intention of her visit was just for a cup of coffee with a companion). If there was a regret that I perhaps carried with me long after was the decision to bypass its dessert offerings. Practically, one is treated to an extensive row of cakes, biscottis, cannolis, and dessert slices that one could easily find themselves unnecessarily indulge in it, especially if one has a sweet tooth like me. That being said, it does give me and my girlfriend a reason to go back. As a means of closing this review, I did want to mention the awkward but also amusing sight of the waitress and the chef arguing due to the former being bombarded with tasks that were placed upon her, unable to prioritise the food that has been indicated as ready to be served. This ultimately led to another chef taking out the food personally to us. Personally, it didn't mind me as I could understand the hustle and bustle that often comes with such an environment. But please don't let this incident detract you from giving this great restaurant a taste.

I found the staff friendly and helpful and the coffee and food of good quality. However, we ordered 2 pizzas that took 40 min to arrive, which is way too long when sitting outside in 10 degrees. After 20 minutes we were told they were cooking so we ordered an $8 bowl of chips which arrived and was eaten before the pizzas arrived. I don't know why it took so long, no explanation given. I'm pretty amenable and accept mistakes happen and would have liked to have been kept in the loop. Unfortunately I won't be going back.

Amazing pizza. Authentic Italian and really unexpected for a pasticceria. In my home town in Italy we say "Non è bello ciò che è bello ma è bello ciò che piace" (beauty is in the eye of the beholder). So, I laughed at reading bad reviews of this restaurant's pizza because I can tell those people are comparing THE WONDERFUL PIZZAS AT VIA DOLCE with whatever they think it's good (which is not). If you know what a good pizza is (from the flavour of the dough to the freshness of the sauce and the quality of the toppings) do yourself a favour and go to try this! (Plus it's the only place in Canberra where you can have a dinner at 10 pm)

I like coming here for the cake slices and ice cream. There's a long wait usually.

via dolce definitely has to be in my top three for my absolute favourite cafés i’ve ever been to - and i’ve been to a lot. firstly, their desserts - wow. they have such a large array of artisan products that have obviously had a large amount of time taken in to them to make them as perfect as possible. their cakes are incredible and taste even better - and don’t even get me started on the gelato. via dolce’s gelato is unlike any other gelato i’ve tasted before. with their large variety of unique flavours, from their filling apple pie, creme brûlée, and pancake gelatos which are absolutely extraordinary in their taste, to some light flavours such as the watermelon and passion fruit sorbets, via dolce’s gelatos are hands down one of the best homemade desserts i’ve ever tasted. next off is their service. contrary to many reviews, the service i received was extremely attentive and polite. the staff seemed genuinely friendly and happy to be in the environment and had no issues with fulfilling any requests i had. the owners were extremely nice and seemed as though they genuinely cared about the staff and their café.

I stopped in for coffee and cakes with friends after a day shopping in Civic. after taking way too long to make a choice on cakes because of their huge range and how tasty they all looked, we reach made our selection, order drinks and sat down. The service was as usual very polite and quick and no problem at all. Tables are always clean and quickly cleared. my friends had gelato from the gelato bar after as we were leaving and we're very appreciative of the range and the quality.

Absolutely wonderful. Came here for valentines day and I'm definitely coming back. I ordered my meatlover pizza and omg was it amazing. The white & dark chocolate mousse is also to die for. The server Charlie was such a sweetheart and really knew what he was doing. He was so kind, so shout out to Charlie!! Via Dolce has a great cake range and a decent food menu. We tried a pizza but it was so swimming in bbq sauce that the base went soggy. The Mars bar baked cheesecake was great but the thick shakes are overpriced ($12). I'd definitely go back to try other cakes but might not eat anything else.

Exceptional is the word. Must visit place for the amazing deserts and gelatos. Triple Chocolate Mousse is extraordinary. Food ( Pizza & Pasta) is also good. And location is superb. Heart of Canberra Civic Mall.

The register to order is between the doorway and a table, meaning that there’s a constant push and crush when trying to order. The staff seem bewildered when trying to take an order as well. Don't make the same mistake as I did and think this is just another coffee and pastry cafe - its an Italian restaurant. Very friendly atmosphere and so easy to find as its across the street from the mall and movie theatre. One of the only late night cafe's in Civic open every night where you can indulge in excellent Italian coffee, gelato, wood fire pizza, smoothies and baked delights. A little upscale with excellent service makes its a sure place to bring friends and dates after a movie. Prices are good, staff are professional and well dressed and there is even an outdoor-facing gelato stand for gelato on the go on those summer nights. One of my favourite places in Civic.
