Comments of Dandy Lane Cafe

Excelente service. Very clean. Lovely place to eat. We were looking for a place to have quality and variety food and I think this is one of the best. Good to start our trip.
A. L.
Great food especially the corn bread with chipotle sauce and the pancake mix
What a wonderful mixed !
One of the best dishes I had in my staying in Tasmania
Worth the try
M. L.
This is the best café I had in Tas, strongly recommend their coffee, their coffee beans from Nueva Segovia, the high altitude and mild climate of the areas provide an adequate level of shade that allows the larger Maracaturra varietal to thrive. In the cup we're finding pleasant sweet citrus characteristics with honey & nuts on the finish.
BTW, service is excellent and staff are all very nice and friendly. Will definitely coming back next time.
S. V.
Beautiful little café with a delicious range of options! The staff are friendly and this place just has a great vibe! 😍

I have been waiting for the pancake for a long time. Finally, I got it today. Cannot wait taking photos… even the pancake is not ready. Fantastic taste and excellent service.

Wonderful experience at Dandy Lane this morning with my daughter. Kids friendly! Staffs are very friendly and helpful. Dandy rosti is the one dish that I will recommend on my top list when you walk in this Cafe! Best Rosti forever!
R. H.
Good all day menu. Breakfast menu all day and it is their best menu item. Indoor and outdoor seating makes this a great inner city venue. The staff are just lovely and so helpful. Bookshop right next door, what more could you ask for!
A. C.
Great coffee shop with the best Dutch Pancakes we have ever had
A. B.
The zucchini, mint and feta fritters are absolutely gorgeous. Served with halloumi, 2 poached eggs and a very tasty sauce. Wasn’t a big fan of the homemade pickle but I think that’s just personal preference.
Ordered an oat milk hot chocolate, which I think came with almond milk which wasn’t an issue, but couldn’t get a chocolate taste off it.
Staff were friendly and service was excellent!

prompt friendly service and the best breakfast i have had in a long time 🥰
A. M.
Very nice coffee and meals. We ordered smash avo and some toasties. Cosy place and kindly staff
E. P.
Nice coffee, breakfast and staff!
The selection was great and can’t speak highly enough of the quality of the meals.
Would eat here again.

Hidden in the back lanes of Hobart cbd, this is a reasonably priced Japanese inspired Cafe with very friendly staff. Coffee was pretty good as well as the breakfast we had.
C. P.
My husband and I had brunch here. Sat outside in Collins court and listened to the birds. I had the rosti with a side of Mac and cheese croquette (pictured) which was perfect. My cappuccino was also excellent and my husband had the dirty burger which was "tasty."
C. H.
Beautiful food and attentive service, loved it!!

When I am in Tassie I try to visit as many new cafes for the novelty factor. I came here at my sister's recommendations, although I didn't come for food, she also rates it.
The cafe is very centrally located in the hustle and bustle of the CBD. It's in a laneway off Collins St and you can't miss it. Dandy Lane has a bit of an outdoor area with several tables, each shielded with an umbrella. When you enter the building the cafe is separated into two distinct dining areas, similar to The Roots in North Sydney. There are a lot of tables available in both areas. There are also some tables just outside these two area. I believe that you should find seats easily even in peak hour if you a small enough entourage.
I ordered a large latte. The coffee came out looking very nice with a light brown backdrop. The art is looking very clear, nice and distinct. The latte art degradation test was very favourable and survived to around the 3/4 consumption mark. This means that the coffee was not bitter throughout the experience and I was able to enjoy the art for the duration of my time there. it was very smooth and had a nice flavour.
The cafe only falls short to the fact that it doesn't have a WiFi and because you can't pay with an AMEX card at all. There also doesn't appear to be any power points so you may not be able to do work for very long.
Dandy Lane is a really great place to come for coffee and they make it with the highest quality and care. I recommend giving this place a go if you're in the area and it's definitely in my top 5 for the CBD.

There are two ways to get into Dandy Lane. While we came in through an old-fashioned arcade, which made it look like we’d be dining in a terribly lit office corridor, more savvy folk would enter through Collins Court, where a giant Phibs mural captures the beaks and beady eyes of Hobart’s plentiful birdlife. Viewed from this side, the interior space is attractive and inviting.
While I’m not sure about the white wall decorated with empty picture frames, I do credit Dandy Lane with coming up with a new way to hang their Edison bulb hallmarks of a hipster café. The stark steampunk-inspired minimalism is offset by some organic forms - a beautiful glass dome of pastel blooms sitting right on our window table, and a glass pot of the kind of sugar that says they're serious about coffee. The beans, which are from by local, small-batch roaster, Villino, went okay in a Latte ($4) but performed better in our strong Flat White ($4); so go the Extra Shot ($0.50) if you like good coffee cut-through.
Dandy Lane puts their own spin onto hipster breakfast standards. They are clearly concerned with how they’ll look on Instagram, but the vanity metrics are mostly kept in balance with creating good flavour. Zucchini, Mint and Fetta Fritters ($19.50) are fresh and tasty against a pink lake of harissa labneh scattered with seeds (seed scattering seems to be a bit of a Hobart motif). You'll find the crisp brown balls tucked away under a tumble of springy fresh herbs and house-made pickles, along with a golden slab of haloumi cheese and a poached egg.
Continuing the good Hobartian form on chilli, the sriracha Hollandaise is the real win across both a Fried Chicken and Waffle Benny ($22) and a Pulled Pork Hash ($23). While there’s a lot of waffle to get though, the fried chook is a standout against poached eggs, freshened up with spring onions and parsley. I’m not quite sure what the prosciutto is doing on this plate other than adding some pink.
The same goes for the peanuts on the pulled pork hash, though I like the rest of the combination - long shreds of tasty pulled pig, crisp potato, ‘slaw and onion rings - even if it is kinda hectic for an early breakfast. It’s all bound together with that bright orange sriracha ‘Holly’ which I am pleased to report has actual bite.
While Hobart seems to err on the side of generosity, it’s my view that the portion sizes at Dandy Lane are exactly right for breakfast without bloating.
K. C.
Delicious coffee and brekkie. The Halloumi and mushrooms on gluten free bread is highly recommended.
Z. C.
excellent food. very happy with the French Toast. Coffee is also good.
S. K.
Delicious food, a bit slow and a bit expensive but worth it! Kind staff and good variety of choices.
D. G.
Cute little cafe serving amazing food and amazing coffee. We got there just after opening on a weekend and it filled up fast! Great and friendly staff.
G. P.
Excellent food and even better service! The food looked like a work of art, and tasted as good as it looked!
A. D.
My partner and I visited after seeing good reviews of the cafe. Unfortunately the cafe was busy so we were seated outside in the alley which wasn't very pleasant and didn't feel like we had a proper cafe experience but was still ok.
However, the cafe did look nice so I'm sure if seated inside we would have enjoyed it more. The waitress was friendly and our meals were served quickly.
I had the Grilled Cornbread which was a generous portion size but lacked seasoning/some type of freshness. I still enjoyed it though as it was tasty enough. My partner had Fried Chicken Benny which we both agreed was super delicious and would definitely order it again.
D. L.
Delicious food + friendly service.. will definitely be back when I’m back in Hobart 🙂🙂
S. W.
Our group between us had the granola, fritters and cornbread, each of them was absolutely perfect and plated beautifully. The coffees were also on point and the wonderful barista even gave us a sample of coffee from different beans. If you haven't eaten here yet, just know your biggest problem will be deciding which amazing dish to order.
C. K.
Really excellent brunch spot, the Dandy rosti is brilliant. Pity about the sugar served on the tables, it gives the drinks an off taste.
B. H.
Delightful side street, great batch brew and the bacon side is totally worth it :D
G. T.
Great breakfast and coffee for our first morning here would definitely recommend!
P. H.
Absolutely beautiful food and coffee, a very nice surprise!
A. “. G.
Great coffee and delicious breakfast. A real treat in the heart of Hobart
N. G.
We had a wonderful breakfast here. The cafe really pulls a punch. Firstly, the coffees were the best we had in Tasmania. The ‘long black’ (or ‘Americano’ as we call it in the UK) was very strong (as requested) and robust. The flat white was also excellent. But it’s the food that stands out as exceptional.
J. Q.
Was busy but turn around and service was quick. Food was tasty, nice little small brunch place.
T. L.
Brunch here on final day visiting from Melbourne. Was a busy Mother's Day and staff were able to accommodate myself and partner despite clearly being run off their feet. Service remained friendly and prompt considering. We were placed in the foyer area in the corner but that didn't matter when coffee and food were that good!
Partner had the shakshouka (special?) which he raved about being one of the best he had had. I had the dandy rosti with halloumi and avo - so so good and just the perfect size. Best brunch we had during our 4 day stay in Tas. Would definitely recommend or return next time we are visiting.
R. H.
Great cafe. Super friendly staff and well priced. Fantastic coffee and superb food. 10/10
M. H.
Great coffee
Average food, cheap bacon. I think the relish had cinnamon in it which didn't work.
The cafe was overly warm so tried to sit at the table furthest from the fire to be comfortable. Was directed away from it by a member of staff as it seated 4 instead of 2. Which would be understandable If it was at a peak time or busy, we were the only ones thereat 10:50am. Good customer service would have been to allow us to sit where we were comfortable.
K. R.
Thr food is outstanding quality as always. Only issue i have is that I do not like the sugar. I have asked them each time I have been if they could also have normal sugar but they still have none
A. P.
Stopped here on our way to Launceston. Great food at a reasonable price which was a welcome change from the generally expensive menus of Tasmanian restaurants. We ordered the Fried Chicken Burger and McDaddy. The fried chicken burger wasn't too greasy at all and was actually quite refreshing with the slaw. The McDaddy had fried macaroni cheese which paired with the candied bacon was pleasure at every bite. Only downside was finding parking in the city!
M. K.
Very good and tasty food great service and friendly staff
D. R.
Amazing experience, delicious food and perfect coffee.
A. K.
Great coffee and quick, friendly service 😎
c. v.
Hot white chocolate was so so, not that rich chocolate, a bit watery. The Elvis Waffles was so good ! Friendly staff xxx
G. B.
Nice breakfast spot. Was a nice experience, quick service
M. H.
Excellent food. Yummy, full of colour and well presented.
Service is normally good, however today they had a new person who was... Average. But I'm sure they just need more practice.
But I would definitely recommend :)
Great place to meet friends for lunch or coffee.
A. G.
Visited here on our first day in Hobart and was so impressed we had to come back on the last day of our hol and try something else!!
The staff were really lovely- attentive and polite. Service was quick and meals presented beautifully.
The first time we had the blue cheese burger and the potato rosti, with a side of mac and cheese croquettes and the second time we had the fried chicken burger and halloumi/ pumpkin bowl. All were so so delicious!!
I’m really shocked about some of the poor reviews of this place - the food and coffee is amazing, the boys who served us were so kind and the place had a lovely, relaxed atmosphere.
Of course it gets busy and the food may take a while to come out but... it’s worth it!
Will recommend to all our friends visiting :)
Thanks guys!
T. C.
Delicious food and drinks. Absolutely perfect for brunch. Great value for money and very filling. Such a cute little place.
S. A.
Really impressed with this little place. Yummy breakfast! Wait staff were so friendly and helpful. Happy to help us pull two tables together for us. Even poured our water, which I thought was so nice! Felt very looked after. Corn bread is VERY good, and that Chipotle sauce has a great kick! YUM
A. M.
Headed in to get out of the rain - had an excellent Reuben, great fries and they happily went off menu and made my daughter a spider which was much appreciated and enjoyed. Very friendly staff and reasonable prices.
T. P.
This place never disappoints. Had brunch here with my son and the menu is one of the best in Hobart - it takes me ages to make a decision about what I'd like to eat! Today I chose dukkah eggs with spinach and delicious juicy mushrooms - yum! Even though they were busy, service was good. Will be back so I can try the other menu items.
J. M.
Such a great little cafe, plenty of seating space and always busy because it’s always good. The food is amazing. The service is warm and friendly without being too “in your face”. Perfect place for breakfast, and great spot for a pick-me-up when you just need a coffee.
M. R.
Beautiful breakfast spot with very decent coffee. Highly recommend the zucchini, mint and fetta fritters. Eggs were perfectly poached and the homemade pickles delicious. The eggs benny also looked delicious from afar. Worth the trip down the alley!
J. F.
Good little laneway spot, with quick and attentive service.
The burgers are good with generous servings.
Only criticism is the stacking and assembly, it can be lopsided.
T. C.
I rarely leave reviews. Had the pulled pork hash and a strong skim latte. The best breakfast I have had out in 10 years. On this day, the attention to detail and care taken with the coffee and the meal was incredible. Thanks Dandy Lane staff.
N. M.
One of the best breakfasts I've ever had at a cafe. Fresh ingredients, great combination of flavours & just different. Try the Zucchini, mint & fetta fritters! The dukkah eggs were pretty good too. The go to place for breakfast in Hobart.
M. M.
Serina is an asset to the business. We returned for a second visit after having enjoyed the food and service the first-time. This hidden gem is worth the visit. The coffee is soooo delicious!
L. W.
Have been here a few times now with friends for lunch. Friendly staff. Great coffee. Meals are tasty (though my rosti was a little undercooked today). Subtracting a star as every time we've found the background music to be quite loud which has required shouty conversation to be heard. Doesn't quite make for a relaxing lunch with friends, but I'm sure it is appreciated in the kitchen. 😋
M. C.
Lovely food and coffeeeeee. I ordered corn bread something which is slightly spicy and very yummy! .. accidentally smashed one glass wth my bag and the staff were super nice and dealt with this accident quickly. Friendly kind people and nice ambience. Very warm for stomach and heart haha!
B. B.
Best smashed avo and fetta in the state, love your work guys 🙌🏻
B. M.
Absolutely brilliant burger with blue cheese n special sauce...who wudda thought. Funky food in a pleasant place with a Kool vibe.... it's an 11/10 experience.
z.
All the food that came out for breakfast looked amazing, to the point I contemplated taking a photo but I was just able to restrain myself from doing so.
The food for me couldn’t have been better, it tasted amazing, and unique. I will definitely be back when I’m in the area.
M. P.
Really cozy atmosphere. Really great service. Delicious food with generous portions at a good price.
It's kind of tucked away so it doesn't get the attention it deserves but Dandy Lane is quite possibly the best cafe in Hobart.
N. S.
Food and Drink was very well portioned and flavoursome. The Service could have been a slightly more organised and quicker. Other than that great.
A. D.
We went and had breakfast at Dandy Lane today and absolutely loved the food, the coffee and the service. I ordered the herb and Parmesan Rosti with avo and halumi with poached egg, spinach and hollondaise sauce. My partner ordered the zucchini, feta and mint fritters and was equally amazing. The coffee was one of the best I’ve ever had. I highly recommend this place for breakfast/brunch. Will definitely go back next time we’re in Hobart. Going back tomorrow anyway.
M. B.
Had a cappuccino and scrambled eggs on toast, both delicious. Standard prices and friendly staff.
C. G.
Delicious food and fantastic Tasmanian service. Loved this place that was recommended by a friend. Location a tad odd as it feels like it's in an office...but still my husband and I loved the food and character it offered.
L. E. S.
Good place to stop and reflect over coffee.
Food is ok.
OJ is the best in the city.
C. S.
Amazing food and great service!
C. N.
Good breakfast - the Dandy Rossi was really good - could have done with some more sauce, the zucchini mint and feta fritters were great - would do breakfast here again. Coffee is ok
A. C.
Warm and friendly ambiance and staff with high quality ingredients of both food and coffee.
One of, if not the best, Ham & Cheese Toastie ever!
Warmth from their unique and environmentally friendly pellet fire was a welcome respite from a chilly, wet Hobart morning.
B. J.
Coffee hot, strong and delicious. Service was attentive, friendly and warm. No wonder this is a top rated cafe, will return
A. L.
Hidden gem cafe at Hobart. Visited them twice for breakfast even though there are plenty cafes nearby. Dandy Lane Cafe is located of the main road and behind a building. I definitely revisit them the next visit.
T. W.
Interesting menu, great execution, coffee can be better
A. B.
Firstly, my experience will differ to others as I went here with my 8 month-old in her (big) pram. They have a “pram spot” located in a corner, it’s great that they have this and luckily another Mum was just finishing up, otherwise we wouldn’t have been able to sit anywhere else. Only thing is there was a bit of a smell. I think the kitchen sink/dishwasher is just behind the wall? They have a plant in the corner but I think some sort of air freshener would be a good idea too. I actually pushed the table away from the corner a bit. Otherwise good food and coffee, but I don’t think I’ll be back.
E. F.
Lovely place. Food was good and the place is extremely busy. Recommend to come outside of normal hours but the wait is worth it.
Would come back in the future.
T. A.
Hands down the best Smashed Avo I have ever eaten. The place is fresh and funky, with a great upbeat atmosphere. Their juices are super fresh and delicious. Highly recommend!
Y. H.
Thankful that we found this hidden gem! Coffee was great... Food was delicious... Atmosphere and staff are upbeat. Overall positive experience and recommended.
H. Y.
I ate a white hair from my meal. and the waiter just thrown it on the floor and pretended it didn't happened. It is really angry and annoyed with me coz he has no respect for me and want to cover it up!!! Even if I usually come to here enjoy the great meal, (actually a frequent customer), but the service of this guy is so much bad, and I cannot believe it he did!!! Sorry to give the bad rate, but it is important to me.
K. D.
Delicious food and coffee but service was really slow, especially on the coffee. They probably need more staff on during peak times.
B. G.
You might have to wait... but it’s worth it!
N. S.
Coffee was pretty good and the service was really friendly. Food wasn’t too bad either. 🤙
L. K.
Excellent coffee! They use very nice bread for their toasties and an amazing seasoning on the halloumi mushroom toastie. Very good value and lovely service.
B. J. D. M.
Great coffee.....super tasty variety of veg and non-veg food options. Staff attend to you and the preparation of your meal with considered care. I would totally recommend Dandy Lane.
J. F.
I'll be back! Super delicious. Value for money. Nice atmosphere. Friendly staff.
J.
Ignore review, under new ownership and I haven’t been back to check what it’s like yet.
L. M.
$19 for what turned out to be a pretty tiny avo on toast. Only savoury vegan option. Staff were plesant and the atmosphere is nice, price just didn’t add up for me unfortunately.
S. S.
Delicious food and coffee. A must try.
J. P.
Great food. Friendly staff. Quick and good service. Hidden gem.
S. M.
Stuck for a place for breakfast in Hobart? Pick this one, decent easy menu which is delicious and not just a boring granny cafe. Great coffee as well.

L. B.
Great food. Excellent coffee. Friendly and helpful staff. Would definitely come back if in the area again.
S. H.
Great brekky food, and the best coffee I had in my 4 days in Hobart on a recent trip. Well presented and great food pairings.
L. M.
My friend & I had the Dandy Rosti and French Toast. Both were absolutely divine! It was a very busy morning, yet staff maintained great service 👍🏼
K. R.
Food was to die for and absolutely fantastic. Unfortunately, our entire experience was shadowed by long wait times and awkward staff. It didn't help we only just made it to the airport, but nonetheless, we would probably return if only for the food.
A. E.
Great coffee and awesome food. Best cafe in Hobart in my opinion. Always friendly service and quality food.
M. A.
Found this little gem when visiting hobart on a holiday. The food was clean, fresh, tasty and arrived in a fair time. Price was similar to similar places but the quality was better. Would recommend.
F. C.
The coffee I have just had was up there with the very best. And the bacon benny was equally tasty.
A little hid away, but worth searching out.
Highly recommended
T. R.
Here for breakfast on a Saturday morning. Good atmosphere, vibes from other patrons and staff. Music not to my liking (heavy bass beats that I find stressful) - the style of music wasn't being played all the time I was there. Food was excellent.
J. T.
Didn’t get to try their coffee but toastie was great!
Z. K.
Very popular cafe in Hobart situated inside a mysterious lane in the main city. Hence the name Dandy lane. Good food and coffee. Surely recommend.
V. P.
Fantastic breakfast. Lovely atmosphere, friendly, helpful staff and really good table service.
L. N.
Great service and really nice food 👍. A little Gem that will satisfy all tastes. The French toast was delicious 👍👍
P. L.
Staff member who attempted to serve me seemed totally unaware of liquor licencing laws. Hopefully staff awareness will improve. But for the record, a meal must be purchased with any drink - a biscuit is insufficient.
s. g.
Fantastic food, great coffee, friendly staff, what more could you ask for!!! I got the haloumi and avocado on rosti and it was fantastic!!!
J. P.
A little gem in Hobart CBD. The food is excellent, service attentive and coffee first class. What more could you want in a cafe?
D. D.
Great food, friendly staff and delicious coffee!

Very friendly service, the avocado smash was delicious if a tad too limey. Great coffee
