Comments of Jackman & McRoss
S. X.
A warm and inviting atmosphere to step into from the chilly morning wind in Hobart. Loved that the pastries were served warm, but tastewise they were so-so. The almond croissant was lightly buttery and crisp, but the almond was only on the surface (with an artificial almond extract flavour) and there's no filling within. The pastry on the scallop pie was a bit doughy, although there's a good amount of scallops inside.

Arrived not long before close but staff were still inviting and friendly. The scallop pie was decent. The bathrooms were strangely located though, like I was at some nightclub

I only tried their Almond Croissant, nothing else. Unfortunately, dry and flaky. Prettily covered with icing sugar and almond on top, but quite hollow and pretty plain inside. Well, I bought it around 4pm, so maybe it will be better fresh and warm early. They have lots of pastry selections though! Staffs were really attentive.

I visited this quaint little pastry shop 6 years ago n it left a strong impression on me so much so that I need to say something here. My family is from Malaysia n we were on holiday in Hobart. My son suggested entering the shop. It was a wonderful experience having breakfast there. Place had a lovely charm. Cakes n pastries were delicious n another family struck up a conversation with us. We had a nice time there. Food was good n the experience memorable. Hope to go back soon.
December 2019, a year since my last visit. Pastries still excellent.

My fave local Cafe, amazing lamb shank or scallop pies with home made relish and they actually make a brewed chai that is not instant sugar and spice. The bread is outstanding the service is always outstandingly friendly.

Great chai brewed on tea leaves, good breakfast hot pot. Hot pot was made in advance and reheated to order so the poached eggs were cold while the rest of the dish was deliciously warm. It was a strange mix that didn’t sit well with me. Vibe of the place was lovely.

A busy little shop with delicious gourmet pastries and baked goods. Clean and inviting. Food is very fresh!!

Great little Hobart bakery. Best croissants in Hobart - go well with their excellent coffee. Very good selection of cakes and savouries, plus good meal options. Well worth a visit.

Good service, and good food.
Pros:
Coffee was one of the best I've had in Hobart
The pastries they have are amazing
Cons
Not a lot of options
Closed on the weekends

As a satellite of the main shop in Battery Point this place offers a great collection of pastries and cakes. All the food looks amazing

These guys are a Hobartian experience and dynasty. They have been around for as long as I have visited Tazzie (and of course much longer). Each time I keep coming back and they are consistently good and busy. That can be rare these days. They have now opened this store in the CBD so you don't have to climb out the back of Salamanca to Battery Point, but to be honest, I'd still go to the Battery point store as it is the original and the best.

Amazing place great food such good value

Lovely cafe with lovely pastries. Not a lot of choice, but the things they have on display all look incredible. I had the blueberry tart and an iced chocolate. The blueberry tart was amazing and they use local berries which made me more inclined to choose it. The iced chocolate was more like milk and ice cream with a bit of chocolate flavour, which I was actually glad for because it would’ve been too rich for my taste otherwise, so not really a complaint. But just a heads up.
Staff were really lovely.

The pies are good but a bit overrated. Place has a lot of flies, a simple door air curtain might fix the issue during summers, need a stronger ac as well. Staff are friendly.
S. R.
So perfect. Super fast, No BS, inexpensive. You have coffee the min you sit down, food is out almost too fast, then your out the door in less than 30min ready to explore hobart

Was super happy to find a Jackman and McRoss in the city! The shop is cosy with wooden floors and furnishings. It's in a quiet, sunny position in Hobart near offices. The range and quality of food is consistent with the other stores. There's store friendly staff too. And great coffee, one of the best in the area.
G. F.
Great meal n tasty at very affordable prices.
Great lunchtime place to meet.😁

As far as I know there are three Jackman & McRoss in Hobart. They are all worth a visit. They have a real French theme to them. The staff are always friendly and up for a chat.

One of the best hot chocolates I've had. Food selection is great, lots of tasty looking sweets and savouries. Staff are lovely and happy. Well worth your time to stop in

I was skeptical about the scollop pie, but man it tasted great. I wish they had it in syd. This place does great pastries as well.
A. J.
Loved it Liked it for Early morning Coffee! Helpful staff
K.
Small looking cafe but identifies as Patisserie in the window, and yes they do deliver. Big flaky croissants (all the pastries are generously sized), great coffee and an interesting range of delicious breakfast/brunch and beyond meals on display. Friendly staff as well, give them a go.

Lovely place and staff, the food was decent and coffee is not bad too.
M. R.
Everything is good. Nothing is bad.

The place to go in Hobart for vegetarian pasties and hot cross buns. Best buns this side of Barnard's Loop! Lovely staff to boot
J. F.
Delicious baked goods, great coffee. Really nice and cosy place to have breakfast (had great gluten free options).
M. F.
Brilliant service, incredible food, very reasonably priced..
Absolutely loved eating here definitely revisiting..
J. M.
The food was amazing, however we found the staff arrogant. You also have to pay extra to eat at the cafe. We found this a little rich as the food is not cheap.
S. R.
Too die for pastries! Breakfast menu is different but delicious and extremely affordable. Located in beautiful battery point, the venue has history with the exposed brickwork and fireplace. A must visit!
P. W.
Iconic bakery cafe in Battery Point as well as a CBD and outer suburbs location. You'll need to visit Jackman and McRoss at least once during your time in Hobart. The pies are my favorite! Choc Croissants a good too. Can be busy!
d. s.
Lunch with an old friend. D had the salmon w black rice. J had the mushroom soup. Both big, delicious meals. After a few days eating out in Hobart, this is easily our favourite place.
G. H.
Love this bakery. Great location in the historic Battery Point area. Delicious freshly baked food. Can be quite crowded at breakfast, lunch, etc., especially weekends.
C. H.
"best pastie I've ever had" quote from my partner. Great food, good coffee, nice location and friendly staff. *Thumbs up*
L. C.
Good playground with good parking, toilets and walking distance to the beach.
J. S.
Get the poached eggs & aioli on sourdough with spinach and caremalised onions. At $9.50 it's the best & cheapest hot breakfast you can get in Hobart. The coffee here is also great and service is friendly.
J. R. M.
My favourite cafe restaurant.
Nathan is my favourite Barista New Town..makes an excellent Chai tea blend and sells for roughly $20.
Coffee is also to die for.
Meals are prepared in Battery Point and transported to Victoria Street for an extensive breakfast menu followed by an 11am run for those yummy lunch time selection.
Paintings and artwork can be quirky and interesting. Hmmmm getting hungry now!
Early Newspapers provided in NT + Vic St, not BP.

Disappointed this visit. Normally really enjoy food and coffee. Was unable to order a poached eggs for breakfast as the poached eggs prepared off-site was off the menu. Chose to go elsewhere for breakfast.

(Translated) Dark, heavy bread, delicious cakes and great croissants: If you like good, heavy bread, this is the place for you. Everything is fresh and of good quality, whether breads or sweets. Breakfast, small snacks and of course coffee & cake are available in the attached café. The best bakery we found during our last few months of travel.
