The River Cafe is a little gem with breathtaking views of the Tamar River. The service was amazing and it is very clear the owners love what they do and is visible with the quality of food offered. I ordered the fish and chips, and can honestly say it was the best dish I’ve ever eaten. I would highly recommend this place to anyone even if seafood is not your cup of tea.

The meals offered are reasonably priced, are a good portion and yummy. There is outdoor seating available for those who can withstand the icy Tassie winds. If you want to sit inside you would have to endure very noisy everything: Shocking acoustic interior design, ear piercing coffee machine noise, and personnel that is used to using a raised voice that is normally needed in a weekend bar or discotheque of sorts. Which it maybe tries to emulate with the deafening music blaring from the ceiling. They advertise free wifi but that requires a login, and staff have no idea about the login details. Won't come again.

Lovely breakfast chosen from a great menu, very welcome after a lovely walk. Unfortunately can't comment on the coffee as the whole community suffered a power cut before it could be served! The coffees served to others as we ate, however, looked good. Will definitely return for both breakfast and lunch!

Very good spot for a coffee and cake break if you’re touring the Tamar Valley. We arrived on a week day afternoon to find a few visitors. I’m surprised there are not very many other cafes in this beautiful part of the world. Very helpful staff took our order and delivered great coffee and cake in a few minutes. Disabled access and toilet facilities available well as outdoor seating. They have a larger menu than just coffee and cake.

Lovely picturesque place to go for a coffee but you get the distinct impression they don't want you there just for a coffee, felt very pressured to order a meal when all we wanted was a coffee. Well made coffee just back off a little "new owners".

Four of us had a beautiful lunch. The food was exceptional and the Vittoria coffee was the best I found in Tassie in our travels. We had Steak Sandwich and chips, a Ruben sandwich and 2 Thai beef salad. We all loved the food. I had a desert also to go with my 2 coffees. The staff are very friendly and the outlook over the ships at anchor was just a perfect setting for a lovely lunch. Indoor or outdoor dining are available. Wine licence also. Enjoy.

Situated on a bank looking over the Tamar river this place is great for sitting back and enjoying good value food and drink. The coffee is up there with the best that I've ever had. The cater for just a cup of coffee through to a full meal. The portions are very generous and the staff display a very happy and friendly disposition. I was very happy with my visit and would thoroughly recommend it.

We visited here last week when staying in the area for Mum's 91st birthday. Our first impression was 'what a fantastic location' as every table offered a great view of the beautiful scenery. Our second thought was how friendly and informative the owner Richard was. He gave us lots of information on the local area and it's history. Then, to our absolute delight our coffee came followed by one of the best breakfast's we had had in awhile. The coffee was wonderful and the food sensational. Everything from the individual flavours to the presentation was perfect. We loved everything about this place and were so delighted we visited again during our short stay. Thank you Richard and The River Cafe for a lovely, memorable experience.

I'm always on the look out for coeliac aware businesses & had heard reviews of this place so persuaded hubby to stop there for lunch. Extensive GF menu, good knowledge of GF & cross contamination. I had squid. Was a crunchy and unusually dry batter. Chips were 'okay' but not great, could have done with a few seconds extra in the oil & less time under the heat lamp. All in all, an enjoyable meal made better with a glass of middle of the day wine which always makes me feel like a proper grown up!

Delicious seafood - the fish of the day (Tasmanian kingfish) was the best battered fish we have had in years. The batter was crisp and the fish meat was juicy and melted in your mouth. The service and host could not be faulted, the staff were all warm and welcoming. Plus we had excellent views of the river, well shaded away from the wind.

We had lunch here, it feels like a try hard restaurant, for starters they don't know the difference between diet coke and coke no sugar. Ordered coke no sugar got diet coke - hate diet coke. Then the meals came out, 1 Rebuens Sandwich and 1 Vegie stack. Whoever did there take in a Rubuens Sandwich has never had one before and was a bad interruption of one, a Rubuens is not smothered in mustard in fact it has no mustard on it. The Vegie stack was way over Masterchief, whilst nice to eat it had elements on the plate that did nothing for the dish, but probably looks good in a picture. This place needs to just give good honest meals instead of the current Masterchief menu offerings it's doing at present.

This lovely cafe has the most friendly staff who make the biggest effort to engage with and satisfy the customer. The place was very nicely presented and the menu was well rounded at decent prices. Very accommodating for our young son with colouring activities while my wife and i enjoyed the magnificent view of the river. We called in here after visiting Seahorse World. As it was late afternoon and almost closing time the kitchen was closed so only coffee and drinks were availability. The staff were not fazed and were friendly and polite. We enjoyed our coffee, the staff went about their business of closing up and in no way rushed us or made us feel unwanted. Will definitely return at a more appropriate time sometime soon for some food and the view.

Truly wonderful place for lunch or coffee after a visit to nearby Platypus House or Seahorse World, which is just 1 min drive away! Closes at 4pm though and last order for food is at 3.30pm - so make sure you plan your time if you intend to have a late lunch! Fish n chips was really good, with the fish succulent and juicy despite being fried. Pizza was tasty too. For my family of 4, we had 2 fish n chips and 1 pizza to share.

VIEWS VIEWS VIEWS.... Discovered this cafe whilst residing in Beaconsfield, Tasmania for 6 months and soon became a regular hangout. This cafe is located on the main road just before arriving or leaving the town of Beauty Point depending on the directions you journey. I was blown away by the serenity, and beauty of the settings of this cafe, and one could almost forget whether coffee or food is of any quality. From my experience, if the owner makes the coffee you be wowed, if the staff makes it it s inconsistent in flavour, boldness, taste and bitterness. Very friendly service and an awesome breakfast with perfect poached eggs..An art not many seem to be able to deliver. Even if the coffee is not always the best it could be, one has to only look up and be wowed by the view and all is forgiven... I keep going back:)
