Comments of Dukes Coffee Roasters

I like their coffee whenever I visit Melbourne, I come here to enjoy having their house blended coffee.
I recommend their long black, you can taste their bean flavor more.
P. R.
absolutely the most delightful place to have a birthday party. Made my birthday extra special.
Food was extra ordinary! This was a lovely find in the city one morning. The staff are attentive and passionate about service. It has a fabulous ambiance reminds one of long past era. A must visit
J. S.
Famous for their coffee... I came here on Saturday at 3:30 pm, but they didn't want to serve me coffee as they were closing down at 4 pm.
I didn't want to come back again but wishing to give them another chance, I came earlier this time and ordered the flat white.
They do live up to their reputation, as the coffee was very strong and aromatic. Just wish my first experience with them wasn't so bitter.
L. D.
Came on a Sunday midday, line was short and the coffee was great and super aromatic. They live up to the hype, the shop is beautiful but they request you refrain from taking pictures inside in order to not bother the customers.
M. K.
Amazing, I believe here's one of the best coffee in Melbourne CBD!
Worth visiting!
L.
Great quick and friendly service. The hot chocolate and cookie I had was delicious. I will definitely be back next time I am in the city. I will recommend this cute cafe to my friends and family.
M. B.
Overall: 5/5
Ordered a soy latte and it had a hint of sweetness despite no sugar. Perfect amount of milk to coffee ratio. Good amount of foam and coffee was strong yet smooth.
Taste: 5 - sweet nutty note and very creamy!
Value: 4 - a bit pricey but worth the quality
Ambience: 4 - calming, wooden interior
Service: 4

Always great coffee, service and vibe here! Usually pretty busy due to their coffee being so well liked but it doesn't take long for people to cycle through and to get a seat. One of my all time favourite coffee stops in Melbourne and I'd argue the best coffee in Melbourne. Coffee is always constant in terms of taste, temperature and presentation. Highly recommended.
W. G.
Excellent coffee. The space is very crowded though so it’s better to take your coffee to go and wander around the cute laneways nearby. What I loved about the cafe also is that the staff are very friendly, unlike the ones that work at “popular” “hipster” coffee shops in the US. 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️ they sell beans too. There’s also a small selection of pastries

Solid little cafe with some great coffee. So good! Some of the best coffee in Melbourne CBD.
F. S.
Really loved the cherry expresso blend. Highly recommended spot!
S. Z.
Best coffee in the CBD, staff are always so lovely and the place generally exudes immaculate vibes. I love your iced lattes so much I’m beginning to think I could live exclusively off of them. Cheers
M. M.
It's very nice coffee!!
Filter coffee that I got was so delicious.
Always busy cafe and one of the best cafe in Melbourne!!
Pastry of Dukes looks like really awesome so I wanna try to get one next time.
M.
Coffee and coffee is what Dukes is about. Est. In 2008, Dukes' has a strong following (still bustling late Saturday morning). The coffee is worth a visit. Each sip of this latte was filled with a pronounced bold coffee hit. This could easily become your new coffee place.
J.
My favourite coffee spot in Melbourne. Constantly busy, which is always a good sign of the quality. Not only are their coffees top quality, but they have great beans on offer for purchase too. Staff are knowledgeable and helpful with any questions when selecting beans for home use
H. H.
Good coffee and nice staff. They have a decent selection of pastries too. I give it 4 stars only because place is a bit transient and busy, lacks that “neighborhood coffee shop” personality. But nice place regardless.
S. A.
It was the first time to be here and really it was a great experience 😍
I ordered a cup of Cappuccino and it was perfect 👌🏼 and almond croissant and it was delicious 😋
The place a bit crowded and there was no enough seats 😬
However it seems that it is one of the best coffee shops at Melbourne CBD 👍🏼
Well done guys 👏🏼
E. w. S.
If you are into coffee, this got to be your fav place. It's a relatively small cafe with a very few seats, but trust me the coffee tastes so good here.
Also the pistachio cake is delicious 😋
Most of their coffee is organic ( except a few - ask the staff if you prefer organic).
I drink long black coffee and what they do here always makes me happy.
Staff are very sweet and offcourse they are one of the best Baristas :)
If you are in Melbourne city, do give it a go.
Note: They are closed on Sunday
Hope this helps ;)

Line out the door so I knew it would be good. Flavours from the coffee were well worth the wait! Pastries fresh and very reasonably priced. A must try.
Q. M.
The coffee here is really hyped but I think it's just okay. That said, the raisin scroll is well worth a visit. It's soft, buttery and not too sweet. I also love the fitout of this cafe although it's small, so don't expect to stay for long.
S. D. Z.
It’s a different style cafe, in a busy street of Melbourne full of cafes, but you’ll usually see this place full and busy and many times with a line of people as the quality is really good, the coffee is nice, different options and professional people working there.
The concept of the place is quite minimalistic and different that the other cafes in the area and that helps to make it more unique.
M. K.
Very good coffee in laneway near Flinders st station. They are using very good coffee beans. No stamps can be collected for drinks. Their pastries are also very good and have unique flavor, like blue cheese tart every now and then. Be aware of long queue during busy hours, their seats are very limited too.
R. S. (.
If you love superstrong coffee. This is for you. Fast service and they really make the coffee into perfection. A little burn for my opinion.
R. F.
Stumbled upon this honest cafe on my way hustling on a weekday, the simplicity is so inviting that I stopped to have a latte. Beautiful and clean space, good coffee with some fine pastries, no gimmicks. Love it. This is what Melbourne is all about!
T. H. L.
Up to now, this shop has the best macchiato. The macchiato I tried is creammy, a little bit sweet and not sour. This option is good for those who love coffee but not love the sour flavour.
T. S.
I walked past in the early morning and saw a line out the door so figured the coffee must be good. I returned late morning and there was still only a seat or two free. You can't order a larger coffee if dining in unless you like a takeaway cup (I don't). Went with the regular cappuccino and found that it was only warm. Flavour was decent but not the high quality I was expecting. Busy little place but there are plenty of others to choose from in Melbourne CBD.
A. B.
If you like a good coffee, this is the place. Don't expect much else, other than some croissants and cakes to compliment their coffee.
Coffee is what they are good at. Good and efficient service. But that is it.
Can be very busy, thus queuing is sometimes inevitable.
O.
good coffee and snacks. ordered cappucino($4) and pistachio and cherry ball(?)($4). the snack was moist and wasn't very sweet which was great. always busy and hard to get a seat. a black man at counter was very friendly.
D. M.
The coffee is good here. Good variety of blends.
The carrot cake is one of our favourites!
W. L.
Friendly staff, decent coffee, but a little overated I feel. Got an ice long black. The coffee is slightly more towards the acidic side, would have been nicer for a latte I believe. Personal preference.
M. !.
Even though the line was long we got served fairly quickly (and even managed to get a table!) the cookie we got was so good as was the cherry espresso blend i got!!! Prices aren’t too bad either
D. M.
Busy but quick serving of the brown essence as always. Great coffee stop, nice ambience but probably not much space for seating.
I have sampled several pastries and sweets over my visits. They were rather average and too sweet to my likings - probably pair better with tea instead of coffee.
N. A.
Coffee has always been 5 star here and service has been good too except for today. They guy at the counter was very abrupt and impatient when I asked about the coffee beans and it wasn't busy...
G. F.
Great coffee just away from the hub bub of restaurants and cafes off Flinders lane.
Service was fast and there is an excellent selection of sweet options.
They also sell coffee beans, brewing equipment and cups, perfect for gifts.
Recommend.
E. T.
The coffee is always amazing and I love all the cakes, cookies and pastries they offer!
M. M.
Peanutbutter choc cookie was of the nice crumbly variety. Best hot chocolate I've had today and I'm ashamed to say I've had more than 3...

Exemplary Melbourne coffee - delicate but well-balanced with a hint of bitterness. Excellent service as well :) Big enough to stay for awhile but very packed.
R. P.
Great coffee and pastry. Must try long black go with almond croissant , perfect match !
Note: not much customer service because the cafe is always packed and super busy!
G. W.
Only 4.50$ for a single origin iced long black and it was quite good.
I will come again.
A. C.
Beautiful coffee and I highly recommend the almond croissant.
S. K.
Can't go wrong with coffee in Melbourne I guess. The long black is extremely rich and slightly creamy texture. The quantity is smaller than I'm used to so should have ordered a large. There is a no photography sign at the door. Which is interesting. There was a queue when I went in and it was pretty packed inside. Fed square is a short walk away so wasn't too bad to sit there with my coffee on a sunny day
L. Y. X.
Oh yum, the magic I ordered was rich and easy to drink. Big love!
g. m.
First coffee I had in Melbourne, and it was the best! Seriously good, and the peanut butter cookie was unreal! Went back 3 times during my week in Melbourne, can’t recommend enough!

Took me awhile to find it and I loved it. Fantastic coffee and I really liked the vibe. So many people walk on through or else take up seating, doing their work or having meetings. Service is efficient and relatively smiley. I looked around but I think there is no menu or pricing so I will take a star off for that. Was a bit unsure what was on offer.
C.
The cafe has great ambience with wooden panel walls, but limited seating, since people usually just grab and go. They also do have a great varieties of pastries. However, i was disappointed with the cappuccino that i've ordered. It wasn't airy as it should be and the espresso was just very faint. Im not sure what milk they use, but it was as creamy as i would have expected.
Overall, i would just call my coffee as not so creamy caffe latte with cocoa powder disguising it as cappuccino.
R.
machine : 2 la marzocco linea pb
grinder (nah ini dia ) : 3 victoria arduino mythos one, mahlkonig ek43, mahlkonig guatemala, fiorenzato f71
coffee : dukes
brew method : espresso, batch brew, kono
the place is so pack and small, but the coffee is ok.
T.
I love dukes. They've got a great friendly team working behind the machine. And the coffee is consistently good.
M. S.
Highly recommend this place. It’s pretty busy but service was fast. Really enjoy the coffee and pastry. Definitely will come back again.
R. D. C.
Great coffee with selection of pastries. Was there at around 7am and was already getting busy.
L.
Best flat white coffee ever!!!!
No wonder this is so famous and popular!
I will visit again soon.
ก. ด.
Read tons of good reviews and so I went in with expectation. Maybe the coffee there just wasn't for me. My flat white had quite a weird bitterness to it. Now I regard, I shouldn’t have brought a bag of coffee bean :(
S. G.
The reviews are true - this place and their coffee is fantastic! I stopped in here numerous times on my vacation to Melbourne, there are lineups but it moves quick. Staff are polite and courteous. I’m already missing the coffee!
A. A.
I got a latte with 2 sugars and full cream milk.
It was pretty good, and the price was fair. The milk and the froth was just right.
However, the cup size is quite small so so be aware of that if you’re intending to get a large cup with a big kick of caffeine
S. D.
One of the good places to have a coffee on Flinders Lane. 2-3 minutes walk from flinders street station.
D. F.
Nice coffee shop, small and essential. Very good selection of pastry and excellent coffee!
T. T.
The coffee was not so bitter and not sour at all.
The staff were friendly.
The only drawback was too crowded.
K. D. L.
Great coffee at an awesome location in Melbourne.
The staff is great in an area of Melbourne CBD that reminds you of the cobblestone streets and historic areas of London
Y. B. D.
One of the best coffees I had in my life !
D. R.
A specialty coffee institution. Always on point. Espresso rather than filter imo.
P. W.
I just walked pass and want some iced latte and I can say that it is the best coffee that I ever had before🥺💖
A. D.
Great coffee and quick service. Highly recommend to anyone passing by or in town to try some good quality Melbourne coffee. The soy latte I ordered was a great morning coffee.
C.
Probably the most on-point pourover I've had in the city. I appreciate the attention to detail. However I'm personally not into the EXTREME degree of polish this place has. It screams 'high tea with grandma'. I would go here again thanks to the interesting cups, but I won't stay long. I guess it's meant for a different type of clientele - ones that insta their cakes yet leave them unfinished.
F. A.
Great coffee but few options of sweets.
S. Y.
If you are new in Melbourne, you have to know couple of facts about this city. One of the best things in Melbourne is drinking coffee. You don't need to be a gourmet to appreciate the taste of the coffee and enjoy with the coffee culture.
Dukes is one of those nice cafes which is always crowded but they serve quite fast, faster than many other places and they always serve good quality coffee. You can buy their own blend well.
The staff: one of the best things about Melbourne is people are always very friendly and Dukes is not an exception.
D. C.
I don't think it's as nice as the recommendations, the cafe is so crowded & noise, also no staffs to clean the table. The cake is too sweet and the coffee is just fare.
T. L.
Favourite cafe in the CBD, been coming here for years, such a shame that I’m working from home at the moment!
T. H.
Some of the most consistently excellent coffee in Melbourne is roasted and brewed by Dukes. Come here if you want to know what good coffee tastes like.
P. L.
I love the coffee made by the KONO and it tastes amazingly and unforgettable. Also staff in the cafe are all friendly. This is a nice coffee tasting experience.
M. P.
Good coffee and nice treats. Great for a quick coffee fix in a style of a modern espresso bar.
S. K.
Unfortunately I got an excessively hot filter with little flavour.
My partner got a double espresso that was quite bitter.
We will try them again & do another review as we have heard great things.
The beans they sell are great, we have used them at home.
When we went the store was very very busy but the service was excellent and fast.
The menu is on the back wall of the store so we couldn't read it while we lined up, it would be more helpful at the front end of the store.
D. S.
We managed to find a seat in the window and enjoyed our coffees very much. The batch brew was really tasty. We’ll be going back there for sure.
D. K.
I had to wait for a while to get a seat. Coffee tasted okay but was not as good as I expected. Staffs were very friendly!
L. H. O. H.
I used to come here whenever I'm in cbd. Coffee was excellent but recently I feel like there's a significant drop in the service. I took a quick snap of this cafe and was quickly told there shouldn't be any photography in the cafe with hints of snobbery and I wonder where half of the photos in the Google review comes from? I respect the request but my experience went from superb to less than average.
S. L.
The beautiful smell of coffee led a group of us into the cafe! We ordered cold brews and flat whites -cold brew tasted quite bland even if it is a cold brew but flat white was creamy and on point! It is jam packed and almost impossible to find seat so I would definitely recommend it to people on the run but if you are hoping to find a spot in the joint to enjoy your special cup of coffee, good luck!
黃.
Really busy and small cafe but usually you don’t need to wait for too long. Coffee is ok but nothing special.
S. B.
The coffee is fantastic and the cakes look wonderful and interesting but sadly for me, the take on traditional items just doesn’t quite translate. Croissants are tough to compete with in a city like Melbourne, when you have the likes of Lune down the road. And the Florentine base is more cookie than Florentine.
Still, Dukes is a full give stars in my opinion for the coffee alone!
K. M.
Highly recommended coffee, and great service.
C. E.
Great coffee, delicious sweet treats and super friendly staff. What more can you ask for? We had a wonderful experience at Dukes.
S. K.
The coffee is almost always good, but in the COVID era hygiene practices are very important, and this is where Dukes excels. It's one of very few cafes where I feel safe buying coffee these days, as they take great care in the way they handle your order, consistently wear masks, and minimise touching the lid. Other coffee shops could really learn a lesson from this place.
C. Z. (.
Coffee tastes so good
M. V. D. L.
Been trying several local roasters and Dukes have really amazing coffee. Their espresso blend is what great coffee is all about. Will be drinking this regularly
f. l.
Good coffee . Food not very sweet and make it perfect with the coffee. Quite busy in the morning even from 7am.
R. C.
Very nice coffee strong but smooth
Y. Z.
Great Picollo, special desserts, packed with local ppl and good vibes Lol
I. N.
This is easily one of my favourite cafes.
Staff are friendly and bother to learn your name and order and chat with you. Service is great and friendly and coffee is amazing as always.
I love their hot chocolate and their daily coffee blend. Their cakes and pastries are delishy.
Unlike most cafes these days trying to be unique it's not filled with hipster nonsense so it attracts a mixed crowd of all ages and walks from life.
D. C.
The perfect soy latte.
A.
Very nice coffee and great atmosphere
C. C.
Good Coffee, Busy, Quick service. Only issue is seating, if its raining outside and you cant get a seat(limited),there is nowhere to relax while eating one of their delicious brownies or croissants with your coffee (all public benches near by get wet) I Cant help but feel the space could be utilized much more effectively to accommodate more tables.
M. B.
Visited from Gold Coast. Dukes was easily one of the best coffee's we had in a land full of best coffee's. Looking forward to coming back.
T. C. T.
Love this place. The coffee here is memorably outstanding. The space is stylish and welcoming and coffee is definitely the name of the game here. 4- 5 baristas stand behind coffee machines, filters, ready to get through the steady queue at the door. Wish they had another outpost in Sydney
M. V. L.
There are so many places producing a quality coffee, dukes is nice in that way. However the overall experience I found a little too self involved. Very us and them mentality. If you just want awesome coffee then try them. If you want an experience or even a table, try elsewhere. Great coffee and an acceptable standard of service for such a busy place.
B. v. B.
Great coffee close to Flinders Station. Good selection of single origin beans as well as blends for those who do the home thing. If they changed their packaging to resealable bags they'd get 5 stars. With their current packaging I recommend transferring your beans to another container as the fold over clips fall off the bag after multiple uses.
A. T.
Small cafe, ideal for a quick breakfast or takeaway coffee. I didn't find the pastries there appetising but the coffee is definitely good. Just a word of advice, the owners do not welcome customers to take photos or videos directly at the cafe interior (they explained that it is to respect the privacy of other customers), so put your handphone away and just enjoy the coffee.
A. B.
I love this spot so much. Fast service, in a gorgeous space and without a doubt one of the best quality coffees you'll have in Melb, or anywhere. Staff prioritize quality and service, while still maintaining a friendly attitude. Zero pretentiousness, excellent selection of coffees, and timeless appeal.
C. B.
Coffee worth flying interstate for. The pastries are stunning too.
S. S.
Good coffee, loved the no photos inside rule!
T. D.
Busy at all times! Sometimes there are lines to the street! However, the coffee and pastries are really good. A great takeaway location. However, not suitable for a sit down cafe because they are very busy.
z. k. c.
great spot to get your coffee fix at reasonable prices if you’re in the CBD. baristas were helpful and friendly
J. H.
Friendly till operator, nice pastry selection. Service poor but coffee was good with solid latte art.
They dont have large have-in cups, so had no spoon to stir sugar in. Water guy was very unhelpful and very dull, but one staff member offered to replace after seeing the issue. Better ownership of errors by all staff is needed. Offered small instead and refunded. But it felt more like they were doing me a favour than them rectify a mistake.
Disappointing service but coffee was pleasant. Won't go again. Basic service 101 have-in = cup & spoon.
M. A. P.
This place has a very good coffee!! Perfect to go if you are in the CBD.
R. M.
Coffee is always spot on and friendly, fast service. If you are caffeine addict, this is a must place to visit in CBD!
M. H.
One of the best coffee shop in Melbourne.
Despite the queues and the amount of people waiting for their coffees, the service was fast and the quality of the coffee never disappoint.
Place is a bit small and has limited seating.
R. H.
Great service, great coffee and great treats! Fantastic little coffee shop in the iconic Flinders Lane and clearly a local attraction. An interesting mix of locals and tourists chasing their daily brew. Would highly recommend as a critical Melbourne coffee stop!
E. J. L. C. &. C.
Delicious, if sometimes too rich coffee.
It’s usually always slammed and you might have to wait in a short queue, but it’s worth it.
I think you get a discount is you BYO a keep cup or mug.
It’s easy to access from the Collins street tram super stop or short walk from most spots in the city.
Also very close to Centre Place (aka sandwich alley) if you need a snack, too!
A. A.
Good quality coffee
Friendly staff
M.
Been to Dukes many times for the coffee and cakes but today I felt the Indian Aussie cashier was rude when I got 3 cakes to take away. Maybe because it was packed but I felt a lack of amiability when it came to my turn compared to other customers. Not calling out on anything but would have rated Dukes higher for equal service.
C. C.
This is coffee (and cafe) perfection in the heart of Melbourne’s CBD. Interior design is on-point, Staff are welcoming and do an amazing job handling the crowds of regulars and tourists alike. Look forward to coming regularly and trying all the different Filter options.
Also worth buying their branded recyclable coffee cups (by Rivers); better than throwing away paper cups every day!
멜번 방문하는 사람에게 추천하고 싶은 곳 Dukes. 스타박스 존재하지 않은 이유 ~ 바로 이런 곳들이 이미 존재하기 때문이에요 ^^

Great decaf mocha coffee! Totally recommendable. ambience is dynamic and cool, my coffee had a rustic flavour with volume and presence in the first sips, then it kind of weakens the more you drink it.
J. T.
I love my coffee and when me and my partner found this place I knew it would be good. The que was out the door and we luckily got one of the little seats in the window. We sat for around 30 minutes and there was a constant flow of people in and out. The coffee was quick despite the amount of people and it was very good!
E. B.
Good coffee , sweets , pastries. Quick service.
K. B.
We took a chance after reading some reviews as to where the best coffee was in Melbourne... I am an espresso drinker so when people say its good coffee they are usually saying this after they've destroyed it with milk and sugar... BUT to my pleasant surprise the espresso was AMAZING..I had the Ethiopian blend... the lady said it would taste like spiced rum however my taste buds must be off kilter as I couldnt detect that at all....what I did detect was some sort of spice and fruity undertones... it was delightful. Hubby had latte and he said it was one of the best coffees he's ever had.... and we drank coffee all over the world...
S. D.
Great coffee and service, my favorite place in Melbourne. It's packed, but what can you do it's on Flinders Lane? You'll still get your coffee in a timely manner even if the line is out the door. I like supporting Duke's because the crew is diverse.
J. C.
One of my favourite coffee spots in the CBD. The coffee is always spectacular and the service is exceptionally precise. Their single origins are a safe bet and you will not be disappointed. There's limited spacing inside, but customers flow in and out fast enough that's it's not usually a problem. They accept allncard payments through Square.
O. Y.
A little bit pricey comparing them with another coffee shops on the same street. But the service is friendly and the coffee excellent , without a doubt one of the best!
y. l.
My friend just had an unpleasant experience here. It's not about the quality of coffee but attitudes of a staff. My friend walked in, found a spot and then decided to have a cup of coffee here. However, when she was ordering her coffee at the counter, the staff wasn't really nice and did not ask her if she wanted to take away or have here as expected. My friend was a bit confused but still walked back to the spot she found. As she was waiting for her coffee, she heard her name was called out for the take away coffee instead of a staff bring coffee to her, which was unusual for a customer to have coffee in the store. Because of that, she had to walked through the crowds and got her coffee which was even in a paper cup! This is such a miscommunication case that disappoints my friend. If a customer cannot have a seat freely due to extremely high demand of seats (I know dukes is always in rush hour), then the staffs should have told my friend early about it so that she can decide whether she want to take away or wait for a seat. My friend and I both admit that dukes make excellent coffee and this also gives us an idea that this kind of cafe should have an excellent service to match its overwhelming coffee.
W. O.
Fantastic coffee and friendly service. Nice and cozy interior
c. h. n.
Great coffee and service. But tend to get a little busy at times.
B. R.
Love how convenient this location is! Such a great addition to Flinders Lane. The coffee is superb and I like how they've added some small tables and cushioned seating against the window for those who wish to take 5 mins to sit and enjoy their coffee before getting back to their day. Safe to say one of the best coffee spots in the city.
D. Y.
Well oiled machine. Super quick on a weekday morning, great coffee and friendly. Not cheapest but fairly standard price
J. C.
Coffee was good : ) but actually I couldn’t agree that here’s top of coffee in Melbourne.
T. J.
The girl was very friendly. She explained everything, since I'm new to brewing coffee. She'd tell me techniques, where to buy cheaper equipments and grind courseness and all other details after I bought the coffee, not because she wanted me to buy their coffee and it wasn't because I asked but she wanted me to have a good coffee and went out of her way to tell me that. Even told me to go diaso or muji if their price was too much (for the dripper). She told me to come the next day to taste the coffee they make (the beans I bought), which I came 2 days after and surely, they made it better. A lot better. I didn't pay for it and was taken aback by how friendly she is. Either way, the cappuccino I ordered was good, however, I prefer baba and trota, so won't be coming back for coffee, plus they're often busy. Regardless, a good experience there.
K. S.
Amazing coffee! Busy, but fast paced service. In & out in no time! Has a little cosy atmosphere with a few spots to sit & chat. Definitely found a new regular in me. 👍
S. B.
The best coffee Melbourne has to offer! It's a must. Lovely staff always :)
W. L.
Very tasty coffee. The menu didn't list what they make, which infuses means they'll make anything within reason, which is an approach I like. The large flat white was very good. Thy ask if you want it sweetened (you don't). They take credit cards. There's a bit f seating, but it didn't seem like a place you hang out and work.
K. S.
The best coffee in the city. if you like a latte or milk coffee they have a real knack for getting the most velvety texture with the tightest texture! The coffee beans are top notch too! Price point is better than Patricia as well at $4 for a small and $4.50 for a large.
C.
Awesome selection of pastries and their coffee is epic!
J. T.
No doubt the coffee is very good. Although it pays to get takeaway. It's popularity means it's a hassle to sit in and sip. Can be done but the place seems to always be busy. A little further down are the even busier Flinders Lane cafes of Degraves Street and Centre Place - Dukes is definitely the best coffee in the area.
I'd give it four stars because it's too busy to sit in & really does require you to get takeaway. But the coffee is five star for Melbourne.
D. R.
One of the the best coffee hangouts in Victoria.
The decor is very calming and the place a very friendly vibe.
The service is really good too.
I enjoy the coffee Dukes has to offer, very rich.
A. S.
I have tried this place for the first time. The atmosphere was nice and the coffee was really good. I took a cappuccino paid $4.50 and an almond croissant $5.50; average prices compared with else where. I'd go back! :)
J. T.
Hhmmmm, what is happening to this place?
2017 9/10
The ultimate coffee connoisseur bar, hard to match
What do they have going .... the CBD Flinders Lane location, the classic building with simple & rich interior, the coffee "extraction" set up, the equipment's, the meticulous attention to detail, the care and attention of their hipster looking staff.
The only thing they don't have is super-licious, addictive patisseries baked on the premise.
Absolutely hard to match, please let me know another place in the CBD.
G. J.
This is the BEST coffee in the neighbourhood. It’s worth the wait. And waiting is a pleasure in that bustling, intense, moody atmosphere with top aroma!!! The staff are extremely friendly and sincere too
C. D.
Good coffee and great selection of snacks. Not the cafe's fault, but Flinders Lane and skips in the alleys nearby are not cleaned often enough and the eateries and shops around it are impacted by dirt and insects creeping indoors, so the experience is dampened by that. If the city council invested more in cleaning and maintenance for this famous part of the city, that would really lift the experience.
E. T.
Dukes does awesome coffee, end of story! Well maybe not quite, they also have a great range of pastries. Charlie who works there is the 2016 Southern Region Brewers Cup Champion which means his coffee is damn fine!
This place reminds me a hell of a lot of buying coffee in New York, but without the biting cold weather. There is also a lack of hipster beards which is a good thing.
Short queues are typical in the morning peak between about 8am and 9am, don't let that put you off though.
M. M.
One of the best third wave coffee places in CBD. Unfortunately it’s a bit noisy and they don’t do oat milk. But you‘ll get soy and almond milk.
Z. S.
Good coffee, excellent ambience. Service is prompt even when busy.
P. L.
This place has been recommended to me by a few people and I now also mention it to others. I personally don't drink coffee so I had a mocha instead and even then the flavour was amazing. May even try go for something stronger next time to get the full effect. Service was also friendly however the spacing is quite limited.
J. F.
Best Coffee in Melbourne.
Great location in the CBD to get a coffee to go. It’s a smaller place and gets busy so sometimes you have to queue but the line doesn’t last long, service is quick and it’s busy for a reason.
L. P.
This coffee is awesome. I live in Brisbane and have tried every local supplier of beans and nothing compares. The beans are fresh and delivery is nice and quick.
P.
Great coffee, probably the best in the centre of town. Smooth drinking with an interesting bean aroma. Pastry is not bad as well. Liking the low-key service in an inviting cafe too.
D. M.
Very cool place with great coffee and pastries. If you’re visiting Melbourne and want a taste of the coffee culture, come here! I really like their mini alfajores as well yum 😋
L. L.
Great atmosphere, food was done in less than 10mins! So yummy and well cooked, perfect place for the ones that appreciate good food. We were really impressed with the level of customer service tho, our waitress was so kind and helpful. Everything was perfect from start to end! Shame I can’t give this place more stars
J. D.
Excellent coffee and service, and every body knows it as it is almost always busy. Queues out the door during peak periods are not unusual. Consistency slips on weekends which makes the premium price tag hard to justify. Otherwise first rate.
V. P.
Small place but Good coffee , nice music n good ambience
H. H.
These guys know what they are doing 👏🏻 This place is worth the effort. I take time to climb up the Degraves street subway exit to grab a coffee from Dukes in between trains. Worth it every time. Not a place for sitting down though. Great for coffee on the go.
E. M.
Friendly staff, great atmosphere, delicious Brownie, but Bitter Coffee
A.
It‘s sometimes crowded but it’s always a good place for a cup of coffee.
T. F.
Today and yesterday were my first visits during workday peak hour. Easily best coffee and escargot in Melbourne. Efficiency of service is matched only by Patricia's. Love it.
J. L.
Good little quiet spot to watch Melbourne creatures. It's small, so they are on full display while they wait for their coffees. Outside is a big safari, so overwhelming. But inside feels like the madness in slow mo, animals standing still for a photo, as opposed to just whizzing by. Or one of those 6 minute round up videos that pop up before a new season of Game of Thrones is released. The coffee was good too.
L. G.
Had a mocha with extra chocolate along with chocolate alfajore. A smug place in the cold for coffee lovers. The aroma of coffee spreads around the corner as you turn along Swanson's street onto Flinder's lane. Even if you are having second thoughts, the fragrance is mesmerising enough for you to be pulled into the shop! Once you are there, the friendly and considerate staff will make sure you don't regret the decision.
D. N.
Well tasting coffee made with ease, cookies can be improved.
C. P.
Friendly and very kind! Coffee was really good for sure
A. M. (.
Usually a line but it gets down really quickly. Friendly staff and only costs 4$ for a black filter over ice. Really good tasting coffee. Recommended.
S. T.
Love their coffee, the hot chocolate also gets the thumbs up from my son.
O. R.
Great coffee and excellent service. I am just not sure if it is on the same level as Patricia's (on Little Bourke). However, if you are looking for your coffee in this area it is certainly worth a (coffee) shot.
J. S.
The wooden and ceramic decor work perfectly for a cosy café in Flinders Lane. Espresso is A+ grinding their own blend of beans, with some pastries and cakes to compliment. It’s king of trendy too, if that’s what you’re after. A rare five star rating.
K. P.
Read tons of good reviews and so we went in with very high expectations. Maybe the coffee there just wasn't for us. Both the latte and cappuccino had quite a weird bitterness to it.
K. M.
the service was extremely fast and it’s an adorable place with a line always out the door, however, i just found the espresso a bit too fragrant. maybe just not for me though!
A. F.
Good coffee, would be 5 stars if was cheaper than $5
P. U.
I like the coffee (flat white). Eventhough the space is limited, it’s not really packed because people tend to do take away rather than have the coffee there. Ambience is always nice with friendly staff.
D. L.
Delicious coffee, lightning fast and lovely staff. My wife spilt her coffee and they made a new one up without even hesitating- so nice of them! Must for anyone into their brew.
L.
Delicious coffee, with sticky thick foam and staff who farewell you by name (remembered promptly)
S. A.
I have tried the Fliter coffee, pour over Kenyan beans.
Decent coffee, great staff, however, the atmosphere could be better but it doesn't make the coffee any worse, still one of the tops in Melbourne.
J.
Coffee is decent. The sweets area excellent. Seating is limited, but a lot of people get takeaway and drink in the library next door.
I. M.
No need to say a lot. Best coffee in Melbourne ❤️
S. H.
Love it - it’s where I met my husband in 2018
W. A.
Nice place to set and to enjoy your coffee.
D. D.
Beautiful space, consistently great coffee. The team could smile more but perhaps they are so focussed on crafting the perfect cup, smiling is an afterthought.
C. D.
Great quality coffee..! White coffee was rich in taste, smooth and creamy.! It is quite busy in the morning yet they are quite efficient.
J. M.
Busy little spot! Friendly staff, coffee is bitter and not for me. But if you like bitter coffee maybe it's good. Treats are good, peanut butter cookie was yum!
A. P.
Good coffee, nice staffs, busy, cool !
J. P.
Definitely a must visit for strong espressos or smooth pour overs!
A. N.
Unfortunately don’t understand how it’s so popular. Have tried to give it a shot a few times however the coffee is average.
Milk too hot and the regular is too milky.
But, to each his own :)
r.
Good coffee. Strong but there’s similar ones outside of CBD especially the Final Step in the suburbs of South Yarra. But the almond croissant is delicious!
F. L. M.
If this is the first coffee of your day, you've already won. The café is busy... minus the anxiety vibe.
*Edit*
And I'm back a year later, still has a consistent and welcoming vibe.
N. D.
Nice little place with an exceptionally great coffee.
S. E.
Good coffee and friendly staff.
K. T.
This is my go-to place when I head to Melbourne. I love the location, right near all the alleys. I love the sign - just a plain coffee cup. They do great decaf and it is a great spot to sit on your own in the window.
I.
Found another place i love! really good coffee, good pastries. Lovely atmosphere, will definetly go back again! good job.
M. M.
Very good coffee and delicious cakes. Usually pretty busy but getting a seat is not impossible. One of the best spots in town to people watch.
N. C.
One of the best coffee places in Melbourne. Great and friendly staff. No egos. Very nicely designed space.
J. F.
Revisited couple days back and I salute for the great improvement. I guess they have realized how things was bad when I used to be a regular customer. However I would like to have more space inside (during winter season) whist waiting for my coffee.
M. Y.
One of the best coffee Melbourne
C. R.
Quick & efficient service, one of Melbourne’s best coffee 👌
J. T.
Knowledgeable and attentive staff in a focused and minimalistic space. Great beans, great coffee, and all in the hyper-competitive heart of Melbourne!
You won't be disappointed.
J. K.
Fast service, great iced coffee but so tiny
N. B.
I can't think of a single bad experience I've had here, I just love it.
Z. L.
Great service, great coffee, great atmosphere. What more can you ask for?
The almond croissant was flaky and flavourful.
D.
The most efficient coffee house in the CBD, or Melbourne for that matter. Every single coffee I've had from here has been exceptional.
J. C.
Nice vibe and energetic. Coffee is delicious.
R. B.
Fabulous coffee shop. Fabulous staff. Consistent, considered, cosy.
P. G.
Coffee is great most of the times but inconsistent. Sometimes the coffee isn't as good.
J. N.
One of my favourite cafes in Melbourne. Had some pastries with a cup of coffee this morning and I can say it is definitely worth lining up for!
J. L.
Fav place to get my cuppa. Folks there are friendly and always attentive. Small cafe with limited seats, always crowded, best to do a take away.
J. D.
Incredible coffee with really friendly and genuinely helpful staff. Dont be intimidated by the filter coffee selection, they are super helpful and you will get one of the best coffees in melbourne
R. Z.
Decent tasting coffee reasonable deserts, very overly simplistic however they do have nice beans and they rely on them
A. A.
One of the best coffee's in Melbourne. Excellent pastry selection. Usually a wait during busy times.
M. L.
Great place. Friendly staff. The flat white was perfect: not too hot and the aroma were very fruity. Would go back.
G. S.
Great tasting coffee and great vibe without the usual melbourne hipster nonsense.
D. Z.
Good service and excellent coffee. Would definitely come back again and try out different brews next time.
M. K.
Store offering super delicious coffee and cookies..
S. M.
Delicious single origin espresso and iced filter. Not as busy this morning as I was expecting which was a pleasant surprise
M.
Good place to share a cake and coffee
E. E.
Look you dont come here for the service so keep that in mind. They make coffee well and make it professionally. They are not busy for no reason. Love the bean and taste.
S. M.
There in a queue leading out of the door an we sit here. That's enough to testify to the great coffee served here. Small and intimate. Nice vibe.
이.
Good coffee, nice sweets, and friendly people
J. H.
One of the best coffees in Melbourne.
W. D.
The shop had a really cool vibe and the food looked great, the coffee was a bit of a let down but maybe it just wasn't to my taste.
L. W.
Coffee this good in such a central location means the place is constantly packed, and it is quite a cramped space. I would advise to get a takeaway and enjoy it on the street watching the city go by
S. T.
Awesome coffee. And I’ve been to thousands. Also the best decaf in the world. Don’t stop being you, Dukes!
T. L.
Had a beautifully bitter and milky iced coffee and a light and fluffy peanut custard doughnut. Perfect flavour combination.
F. C.
Just love the ambience here
A. T.
Highly recommended. Great coffee. Excellent customer service and deep knowledge of your coffee.
T. S.
One of the best coffee places in Melbourne, the wait is worth it! Pastries are good too! :)
J. G.
Easily one of the best coffee shops in the city. Consistently good and has been for years.
D. F.
Impressive range of little bakery goods, tried a few & the coffee was pretty good. Nice spot to stop off at after a bit of day shopping
M. L.
Usually busy but the line moves fast. Seating is very limited and place is noisy asf but coffee is super smooth and not really bitter.
J. B.
Arguably the best coffee in Melbourne!
L. B.
Decent enough coffee but doesn't stand out for me. Not sure what the fuss is about. Queue moves fast though.
M. B.
One of my favorite coffee chains has a nice location here. Delicious coffee that wakes me up when I need it.
J. P.
Rich taste in the mouth and wouldn't let go after you finish. The milk foam is firm and soft without bubble hole. Always be here for one.
S. M.
Very nice space to have your morning coffee & top selection of pastries. Cool bunch of staff too.
J. L.
Great coffee and cakes served at the restaurant, especially love the carrot cake and they make great soy latte.
R. N.
nice poky little place with a cool vibe. Was recommended this place in our cab ride from the airport. They know their coffee!
M. E.
Lovely staff, great atmosphere and even yummy pretzels.
A. S.
I regularly bought coffee beans from this place once a month and I have to say they have the best products in Mel
T. P.
Focused on coffee. Just how I like it
L. A.
if you want to have a great coffee then.this is the place for it .especially the cappuccino they have ...it tastes really good..
T. C. F.
One of the best coffee in town
C. Y. (.
Coffee shop with good ambience
S. G.
whenever I'm in the city I get my coffee from Dukes
however today, once my coffee was poured waiting for milk, it was bumped in favour of 2 other coffees behind my order
so by the time I got my coffee (picolo), as expected it was cold...and because it was super busy and I was in a hurry, I just had to cop it
Dukes, please keep to the order coffees were placed....getting a sub par coffee is a costly mistake these days that the consumer always pays for
ps I did tell them after I took a sip but I had to leave and couldn't wait
V. C.
Second time to visit Melbourne,Second time to visit Dukes Coffee ☕️
M. S.
Smooth latte. Not the strongest roast, so needs and extra shot but barrista's do a good job to pull a decent coffee.
M. I.
i like this place. had to wait for a while to get a cup of coffee, but staffs are friendly and professional, coffee was served in not too hot but not too cold, milk was formed in just how i wanted.
A. S.
Very good coffee and a great selection of pastries and sweets. Long line moves quickly and the service is very efficient
D. G.
Very nice place, nice staff and outstanding coffee. The beans are a little bit expensive (22 to 25 dollars for 300g)
T.
Very good coffee. Pumping inside but service still pretty quick.
s. s.
Great coffee, not a lot of room though so it’s just a quick pop in and out
O. J.
Really good coffee, didn’t buy anything but that shouldn’t be your primary reading for coming here anyways.
H. C.
Love the coffee here but the place is too small and sometimes you will not get a seat.
A. R.
Coffee was ok, staff are friendly and snacky foods such as pretzels and croissants available. Quite popular and long queues but service is pretty quick
