Comments of Ned's Bake Cafe and Restaurant

Great atmosphere, staff were lovely and great food all around. Would definitely come back here again when we are in the area.
Many selection of bread and pastries
D. N.
When I’m the area, I often park in the near by street, this place is always packed, and I love my breakfast and pastries, so decided to give this a shot. The eggs, mushroom, pulled pork on brioche was quite rich and filling, but also over priced for what it was, the French toast had too much fruit on it, which overwhelmed the actual French toast. Grabbed a chocolate croissant for breakfast the next day, it was delicious. Overall, the good tasted good, but I found that $98 for breakfast was steep for me. I’d like to try their breads next time, but not breakfast.

Lack Of Service
The food is fine but sadly it was ruined by the bad and slow service. I ordered a piece of Bacon and it only came at the end of my meal. Disappointing
F. F.
We came here after a big lunch so unfortunately we didn’t order food, but we’ve heard great things about their baked goods so will be back for sure.
Today we just had coffees and also a really delicious chocolate fold, which was very very good. Coffees were great too, can’t wait to go here again.

Situated on the awe inspiring Toorak Rd you will find Ned’s. A large, well lit rustic space, which juxtaposes big glass windows, metallic structural beams, against concrete, and exposed brick.
Inspired by Ned himself, an aircraft engineer by trade, who has spent years planning meticulously a cafe and restaurant, focused on beautiful, honest European food.
At the heart of this endeavour is his love for bread which is kneaded and baked into every loaf.
A. H.
Ned's Bake is the ants pants of cafes south of the river. It's beyond a place to be seen. It's a place that draws you to it, because you can't think of a better place to be, or meet others. Ned's beckons like a familiar friend. Coffee is v good, food delicious (they have their own bakery) and attractive, European in style. Ned's just IS.
M.
Love Neds cafe for their delicious coffee, baked goodies and brunch dishes. Fantastic service and atmosphere. 5 stars each time!
J. C. G.
Great place and it is great for synergising with people. This place is not just a cafe but a place to meet awesome people and find meaning in life. Ah also the baked mushrooms are awesome. Staff always friendly and helpful. Food is always consistent. So why not give it a try! Cafe is built on quality food and stakeholder management fundamentals. I have been a customer for 2 years.
L. W.
Really great spot for breakfast. The staff here as so welcoming and friendly. Food was absolutely delicious- had the chilli eggs and French toast. The flavour combinations are unique and work fabulously!

Ned’s Bake Cafe
Pros:
🥘 The food was delicious, fresh & had its own unique twist. The Caesar salad was absolutely lovely, especially with the fish.
🏠 This cafe has a modern rustic designed with a bit of punk decor.
💰 Prices are medium to high, between $20-$30 dollars for a main.
Cons:
👧I’m not too sure about the service. The waitress was nice however when they got my food incorrect & I pointed it out, she got frazzled and didn’t offer to take it back, so I just kept it. The host was also very dry, having a conversation with him was like pulling nails from a board.
☕️ The coffee was bitter and the soy had curdles, we couldn’t finish them.
S. L.
Love coming here every morning for a coffee! The owner Ned is incredibly hospitable, and the kind service is upheld by Camilla and the rest of the team. Highly recommend the Shakshouka if you’re wanting a wholesome breakfast!
S. “. W.
This could be my new favourite pastry spot in Melbourne. They have an amazing selection of pastries available, delicious coffee and the spot itself is cool and very close to the train station. So before or after work you can get your ☕️ and 🥐 fix in.
F. Z.
Nice atmosphere and I really like the new menu. They also make and sell great sourdough bread.
D. A.
One of best cafes in the area. We went there for drinks. We ordered long black and a cappuccino, it was as expected tasty and strong. When we saw some kind of croissants , we asked the man behind the cashier about them he offered us one for each of us for free. And it was delicious . Thanks to him. He was super friendly. They have great inside seating. I loved the music they play. I ll definitely come back.
L. O.
I have been there a couple of times and the experience has been fantastic every time. They have a wonderful offer of breads and desserts. Great place for a brunch during weekends with your family or friends. It's simply delicious and gets better when you sit close to the kitchen to see their staff in action. The coconut eclair is out of this world!
A. K.
Stopped by Ned’s for a take away Chai Latè and grab something from their amazing freshly baked goodies on my way to work and it’s always really pleasant to enter this place, the servers are always smiling and the service is impeccable. The vibes are always nice.
Such a great place to start your day in :)
And got two yummy chocolate chip cookies for later too 🎁🎁 can’t wait 🍪 🍪
Thank you for this great place and for putting a smile on my face this morning..
♥️
K. L.
Tried one of the Apple danishes. It was soggy and quite buttery, not crispy at all. Maybe it’s better in the morning though. Wasn’t worth the hefty price tag.
B. S.
3 yellow stars for:
1. Fresh, high quality bread with many options
2. Creativity in some sweets and pastries
4. Great & tasty sandwich selection
3. Nice service and staff
2 white stars for:
1. Average tasting pastry and often hit and miss.
2. Price to quality ratio ... Standard but will leave the golden question of whether you should go back or not.
S. A.
One of the best sandwiches I have had in Melbourne! Lip smacking delicious! A great selection of savoury and sweet bakery items
A. C.
Quality Italian Bakery/Cafe. Coffee is very good and the service is fast. There are not a lot of options on the breakfast menu but there is plenty of danishes and rolls in the display cabinet. Often very busy so do expect to wait if coming at peak times.
M. G.
The staff are very friendly and accommodating. Good variety of rolls and pastries that are fresh and have great flavor. The coffee was that good went back 2 times in a day, plus the custard donut is now on my melbourne trip must haves.
C. S.
Chicken sandwich was so good for brunch 😋😋 And for the next time I would love to try the cinnamon swirl with a cup of coffee ♥️
I saw their sourdough bread at the local cafe in my neighbourhood looks so good as well 🥖
T. D.
Absolutely delicious and amazing service
C. C. R.
A perfect place to get a fine pastry. This place has a various selection of pastry to take away as well as to dine in place. With a great service and a decent price, this has become my fave hang out place.
k. l.
I just need the staff to maybe "smile" a little and not get us customers intimidated. They look tired and so "busy", yes busy cos there's customers, but you know even if you move so fast you have to do it surely and in a nice manner. Twice happened i almost came home with the wrong order if i did not check. Had to comeback.
D. W.
Lovely setting. Service was slow with politeness and masks optional. The attitude had far more flavour than the food.
M. W.
Great menu variety. The service was fabulous, with enough staff to attend to us. The food was delicious and the portion size was just right. Great coffee. Toorak Rd location is good as it is a walk from Chapel St shops. No South Yarra station
A. H.
Awesome bakery! The best ever AVOCADO toast thingo, really friendly staff and delicious array of bakery goods and scrumptious pastries! Always go here for a nice morning breakfast!
R. R.
Deliciously good food and Italian wines by the glass.
I had a bianco from Puglia (with my kale and avo salad)...but the Sicilian rosé was also delish!!
B. H.
5/5 for their olive grissini’s. Amazing fresh bread and a solid selection of grab and go items. However, their actual sit down menu comes across as over priced for anything other than eggs on toast - a little disappointing.
P. C.
Loved the yummy food enjoyed myself and worked there when it was the Saloon Bar back in the 90s
O. R.
Meh. Pastries are alright, esp the escargot. The doughnuts however look better than they are, pretty doughy inside and 5% filling (3% of which gets squashed on the outside wrapper if taking away). Bread is ok too 50/50
R. J.
Nice location, viennoiserie, excellent coffee, but sadly, like a few other reviews, lost a star for haughty service. No one smiles and it’s not my first time here.
E. F.
Rustic and relaxing setting. A wide selection of food from pastry, savoury, bread pizza and alacarte menu. Friendly staff and excellent service.
O. F.
Great friendly service. Great food. Great atmosphere. Default morning coffee and on Friday mornings, bread for the weekend. And they remember your name. A+
R. S.
The bread, baguette and sticks are amazing. Delicious and high quality. I am German and love good bread. Delicious for breakfast, lunch or snack. The multigrain (berlin) and rye bread (belgrade) breads are our favourites. Highly recommend to try.
D. B.
This is a oilseed place, even in lockdown. Great coffee and even better pastries. The ham and cheese croissant is something special, more like a croque monsieur. Great service as well.
J. L.
How I wished this place was better. It has a nice atmosphere to it but the staff just can't live up good service. Bread is just ok. Coffee is just ok. It just all comes in as passable and not much else. Variety is good but the tastes and textures could be so much better.
J. B.
Really enjoyed the Tuna sandwich and my coffee. Everything in the cabinet looks great!
s. h.
Very friendly and helping staff
Very warm and full environment but busy
Very reasonable price
I ordered cauliflower stack,it was tasty but chorizo was overcooked and stiff
S. L.
Very delicious, and the service are great, coffee is good as well 😊😋 Canelé taste just like bordeaux ones
E. Y.
Amazing customer service and equally amazing food! My favourite croissant place in the whole of Melbourne
W. J.
Great ambiance, food and service. We got there at peak time (noonish on Sunday) and were quickly seated.
Ordered a pizza, meat board and a croissant with some coffees.
The waitress brought us an extra croissant (she said the one was a bit small), which is basically the way into my heart.
The meat board was huge and had fresh mozzarella and tons of varied salamis and cured meats. We thought she had accidentally brought us the meat board for 4 but we were only charged for the smaller one, so, portion sizes are great.
Pizza and coffee were solid, no complaints.
I like how the bakery section is open, all the breads looked amazing and it's fun to watch the action.
We don't make our way down south of the river often, but glad we did for this place!
J. R.
We were able to buy Ned's Bread at a fruit and veg shop in Knox City until recently so on a day off we ventured into Sth Yarra to experience the cafe. We couldn't have had a better experience with the food, Coffee and service. It was worth 2 train journeys.
a. c.
Thank you to the beautiful gentleman that served me this morning.
His customer service was exemplary . When asked for his recommendation, he placed a Portuguese tart in with my selection and by far, this was the best example of a P tart I've ever had. Big tick. My coffee was also perfect. For covid takeaway efficiency, can not fault my experience. Thank you
T. P.
The open glass display of baked goods is mouth watering. I enjoyed a croissant layered very well and wonderfully baked. I was disappointed that the ham wasn’t baked with the croissant but that it was an after thought to the dish. The coffee was well done but the beans were a bit burnt. The staff was very friendly.
Y. W.
Very good coffee!!
Great selection of pastries.
Breakfast menu was good too - had a mushroom arancini. Nicely flavored. Egg was cooked well. Will come again.
J. W.
Amazing coffee and delicious bake good
R. P.
It used to be my go-to place when I wanted to have good coffee and food. Their pastry is very yummy. You won’t be disappointed. (The owner told me they imported organic flour from Europe. )
But like I said , I USED TO like it. But not anymore.
I don’t like it now because of the customer service. The servers are always busy and seem to be clueless. They’d ask you to wait if you ask for water or anything and then they disappear! Once I asked a waitress for water and was told to wait 3 times. Then she brought water to the table next to mine then walked away ignoring me. I had to ask another waiter and then he told that waitress to bring me water.
After several times of being neglected I decided to drop this cafe from my favourites list.
A. E.
Had hot chocolate and a flourless almond cake. Cake was a bit stale and the hot chocolate wasn’t very chocolatey.
a. X.
Pretty average place and a little bit over priced for a sit down meal. Staff were friendly but the lack of gluten free bread is disappointing. For non-gluten requirements the breads and pastries looked amazing.
j. b.
Excellent food and service- even though popular and very busy.
Love the place
J. T.
The food at Ned's is delicious provided you order from what you can see on display. Unfortunately the coffee has made me sick on a few occasions and this has never happened to me anywhere else. The staff are more rushed than friendly and make it really awkward to place an order, but I highly recommend the food! Make sure you get there in the morning before it's all sold out.
H. H.
Sandwiches were delicious but service and coffee were just ok
L.
I’m obsessed with the avocado + tomato half baguette thingy. Literally bought it 3 days in a row!! The food is so good!! :))
M. P.
Great friendly prompt service. Food and atmosphere was great. Can't really fault anything.
J. E.
Really great coffee, sandwiches, pizzas, breads and much more. Super service.
E. B.
Friendly service , Beautiful set up with open kitchen, great variety of desserts and bread , pizza , wine and coffee . Looking foreword to try all the products.
A. H.
Pastry is amazing! But service could be better! Overall will be back to try more stuff
H. H.
This is a cosy place to have brunch. Close to south yara station. It can be very busy over the weekend. Waitress are nice and attentive. Good music, but not much space amd you might sit quite close to other consumers!! Not much personal space :). Overall I recommend this place.
A. R.
Love this bakery. It is immaculately presented with absolutely delicious high standard pastries and Dat makes the best coffee ever!! I mainly return for the customer service - the whole team and the owner make just ducking down for a coffee and loaf of fresh bread a real joy.
h. r.
Certainly, while DATS is the barista here:
There's nothing better than a "perfect fix" in the morning, right?
Then, honestly here's where to get serious coffee in South Yarra, if not of all Victoria.
As I'm pleased to say I visit almost every morning despite how far I travel.
Because unlike so many other coffee shops around/popping up everywhere.
With these coffee beans, ideal temperature applied, experience, the attentive service, result here is superb.
With his team that are always helpful and gracious.
Believe me it's the best shot for the serious coffee nerd.
A. M.
Walked in late on a Saturday morning to a packed house and we were given a table near the coffee machine. While awaiting the arrival of our scrambled eggs and cheese souffle, we graciously avoided elbow bumping the staff. Foods hot, staff are slightly aloof but could be attributed to the busy morning, overall worth visiting for the baked products.
J. R.
we had a wonderful Easter Sunday breakfast here. coffee, chai latte and iced latte were all spot on. streetscape from large windows adds to the atmosphere as many locals cued for bakery items. food was delicious, both off the small menu of items and the large range of items on display. indulged in a nutella and walnut scroll to finish which was enough for us all to share. service was polite, delivered with a smile, at times torn between walk in and seated guests. all understandable on a busy holiday morning. thanks for a great start to the day.
R. S.
Had a warm and welcoming visit when strolling past looking for a quick lunch.
Beautiful venue, friendly staff, delicious fresh pastries, interesting and tasty menu.
We walked in and felt really welcomed and all enjoyed our sandwiches / meals the place smells of freshly baked quality bread and the coffees/ pastries were all top notch.
I almost gave 4 stars for a small not pick but it definitely deserves all 5.
My Moreton bay bug pasta (which was delicious and cooked perfectly) was abit on the small side but hey I probably eat alot more than the locals here.
Overall highly recommend. Won't disappoint especially for breads/pastries/coffee. Will return.
🙂👍🍩🥐

I love this place, but service can seriously be hit and miss. Most days they're a hit, but once it gets (really) busy, you can quite easily be forgotten in the throng of people.
The good days significantly outweigh the bad though, and the food is excellent. I'd can't give it 5*... But it's definitely a 4.5and a bit*.
R. H.
Service wasn't great, ignored when I walked in for a take away coffee after being directed to the counter... and I was standing in front of the guy?!?!
H.
Best breads, coffee is great too with friendly staff. Sandwiches are so delicious too
J. T. P.
Exceptional coffee every time. Get there early for weekend brunch though because they pack out and people line up just for coffee or take away bakery produce. Lovely staff too, even when clearly smashed w customers.
B. w.
The food is wonderful but the staff are vulgar - positively the rudest beasts I've ever encountered in a service industry.
Update - after seeing the other reviews praising staff there is no way those reviews are real - I've been here three times and the staff are animals not just to me but others too.
M. D.
Wow. Variety of breads and pastry here is very impressive to say the least. Carb up and enjoy! Cof
N. H.
If the loud yellow takeaway cups aren't enough to brighten your day, surely the staff and food will.
Everything is delicious, big fan of the freshly baked bread.
P. T.
Great service, quality food and coffee. Portugese tarts are YUM!
M. R.
Fun for a lunch quickie and they make a big deal about their bread. You can select from their counter or off the menu. Sunny corner position on the south side of Toorak rd. Seating is hard and a little uncomfortable. It gets busy and noisy. Part of the restaurant is too dark. Sitting near the door is also a bit of a problem. The food is simple salads, pizza slices and other quick meals. This is almost a 4 star place except for the seating and noise. The service is good, and the food quality is high. Its well run and the sunshine through the windows make the difference,
C. M.
Lovely food and staff. Coffee is always perfect and the chef is amazing. Always a good meal here.
B. L.
Tasty food and bread, friendly staffs, nice area for dining out.
V. G.
I'm at the moment doing a croissant search & review. Neds almond Croissant is artistic, crispy, and well made. If you are a person who are looking for light sweet Almond Croissant, then Ned's is the one.
Staff are friendly. They greet every customer walking in. Interiors felt v warm and modern.
I'll come back to try more.
A. M.
Our local - always amazing and Ned is always there making sure everyone is greeted when they arrive and also ensuring that the service and food is impeccable! We’ve introduced so many of our friends it’s now become so busy it’s hard to get a table, but the staff are incredibly good at remembering and looking after the locals! Definitely one of the best cafes in South Yarra!
H. P.
Well known eatery-bakery. Line to get in during lunch hours even today 27th Dec. Great bread to take home.
D. K.
It was really good and well organised. Loved it.
M. M.
The pastry are so delicious. I already tried 3 different kind of pastry. The staff is so nice and friendly .
R. S.
I had heard so much positive feedback about this place, so I was excited to try it.
We dined in for breakfast and found the meals very disappointing. I ordered the porridge which sounded great on the menu. But what arrived was pretty lack lustre. It seemed like the porridge was made using water, rather than milk, because it was just plain watery and there was barely any flavour. $18 for a porridge was already enough to make me hesitate, but I was hoping it would be worth it. Unfortunately not.
The pastries on the counter looked incredible, so we also purchased an almond croissant and donut holes takeway. The donut holes were dry, old and stale. The croissant was perfect and flaky, but not enough to make me go back again..
P.
Only been there on Sundays for brunch, but for these at the very least I would give Ned's SIX stars.
It's very popular, so expect to be in and out within 30 - 45 minutes. The food is varied and stunning. The menu changes regularly. Variety and quality of breads is amazing as is the variety of cakes and pastries.
Well worthwhile.
A. D.
Good food, nice ambiance
T. H.
Finally a good bakery! It's one of missing links in the culinary area. Fantastic quality breads and pastries. It's not super cheap but it's great value for the level of quality they offer. Coffee is great. They have only been open a bit over a month or so and with every day they are getting better and better, refining everything, adding to the amazing selection of pastries. I just wish no one discovered how good this place is! It's starting to get crowded 😢 Ham cheese croissant with bechamel is superb.
A. M.
Ned's is great. Prices are good. Service is excellent. Food was superb.....they make their own bread and it came with hand churned butter! The size of the teapot meant one didn't have to flag down a waitress for a refill. Ambience also good. Highly recommend it.
T. K.
This no ordinary bakery. This has to be the most amazing bakery/cafe I have ever seen, the counter is lined with the most delicious pastry's, the pizza slices had me salivating. The food we ordered was incredible, the smoked trout tasted so good, even the coffee was so good I had to get 2. Will definitely be trying again on my next visit to Melbourne.
J.
Good selection of bakery goods, pizza's a nice. Hot food is a little pedestrian, not bad but not great.
Plenty of seats (indoors and out) but can get busy for weekend brunch, so be prepared to wait a little.
The staff are not always the friendliest, very dependent on their mood if you will get a smile and a greeting or just a grunt.
K. P.
Exceptional olive bread 🥖
UPDATE:
Got cronuts and Portuguese lemon cake today. Cronuts were dry and icing lacked flavour. Nutella cronuts were better than the lemon flavoured ones, as lemon cronuts had no flavour to them.
The Portuguese lemon cake was great, however, very very sweet (if that’s something you are into).
R. W.
Great bakery and a nice place for a casual lunch. Healthy options like trout salad are readily available, while calamari and parpedlle are popular. It would have been 5 stars, however the tea I ordered was not what I expected- I ordered a Turkish delight tea expecting essence of rose but it smelled more like apple cider vinegar and tasted only of hot water. But the rest of our experience was great.
J. G.
My partner and I have been to Ned's every weekend for the past month! Amazing selection breads, cakes and pastries as well as a great, varied menu. The service is always great, especially when sweet, smiley Eliza is our waitress. Looking forward to the weekend!
m. D.
Consistently high quality food, both the pastries and the meals. Service is fantastic with lovely staff. They have also been donating food to Salvation Army Crisis services during lockdown.
S. S.
Have been here many times since they opened and taken home delicious bread even more times, and every visit leaves me smiling and satisfied. The bakery delicacies are always absolutely faultless, bread stays dense, chewy and with a crunchy crumb for days afterwards, the croissants are flaky and luxurious (ham and cheese croissant alone is worth crossing town for), and service is - if not always super fast because of the sheer popularity of this place - bright, considerate and warm, and you would expect no less to go with the quality food.
Cappuccino I ordered last time was slightly weak tasting and low on the foam, mentioned it to my waitress and she sussed it out with the barista and brought me a (perfect) new one without even having to ask for a replacement. Also sat alone at a table for 2 on a busy Sunday for over an hour and staff were anything but rude or pushy. Not sure about the service complaints but do yourself a favour and get down to try the food, best bakery in South Yarra area hands down
S. B.
Bakery and pre-baked goods are fantastic and really what it's all about.
WARNING
The restaurant is terrible. DO NOT order from the menu/restaurant. They go to great lengths to make sophisticated food but it's boring, pretentious, bland and very, very overpriced. I had a sauceless lamb ragu, which is chunks of meat in plain , sauceless pasta 😤 - NO ONE wants this . I spend time in Italy, an average restaurant puts this to shame. My partner had linguini with a tiny unsatisfying portion of clams. We left with a hefty bill of over $70 and no desire to ever eat there again.
L. L.
It seems they are not very serious about their coffee. ordered two coffee latte, one comes as flat white and the other has 1/4 of froth and the barista just came back with a jar of milk to top it up after i questioned the amount of froth, so easy.
We ordered two dishes, and it took quite a bit time to wait considering it was 9 am on Saturday and most of the tables were empty. The bacon n cheese croissant didn't come until i finished 1/3 of my dish realising that my husband was still waiting and asked the waiter for it,. The waiter was nice and helpful, he ran back to the kitchen and bring the croissant to us immediately -- it might be forgotten. The brioche and mushroom dish is really nice, which I recommend, but it'll costs over $20 for a fairly small portion.
I though i might not come back again so I want to give their bread a try after reading many good reviews online, but unfortunately, their staff members are not quite familiar with their own products. or maybe their bread menu is changed too frequently. Both bread I bought are average.
It's always attractive to have a open display of patisseries, but please don't do this is you don't have a good pest control...
P.
Best quality sandwiches and cakes. I try to come as often as possible.
k. m.
Being a coeliac I didn't think I would find something to eat, but the owner helped me with a dish of eggs, mushrooms, spinach & halloumi cheese. It was yummy.
A.
I’m not one to give out 5-star ratings but at least for dinner this place entirely deserves it. The bread is the best I’ve had in Australia and the entrees and pizza where phenomenal. Coupled with the excellent services and entirely reasonable prices and large portions this place is a must!
R. Y. J. Y.
Great place to explore amazing pastries and sandwiches. Friendly staff with a well engaged customer skills. Funky and well decorated in their unique style in South Yarra, Her Majesty's. Bagette is the best and single/friends/family/pram friendly!!!!!
A. G.
Highly recommend this cafe. Absolutely beautiful food, I had the asparagus bruschetta and a friend had the mushroom risotto. Both were delicious, but as I love truffles which was in both dishes, the bruschetta just topped the risotto for me. Plus the pot of tea did nearly 4 cups! I'm looking forward to going again but to try their beautiful looking cakes, sadly didn't get too last time.
L. R.
Delicious salads, wonderful menu selection. Staff attentive. Felt like a great local for those in the area - had a happy busy vibe. Nice & close to tram & train stops if this isn't your final destination. Really enjoyable!
M. R.
Fantastic staff! ❤️
Beautiful food but servings could be larger
A. s.
Went here today for a coffee and croissant and my wife had a baguette. 5 out of 5 for the coffee and croissant. Had the left over of my wife's baguette, although it looked delicious, the baguette wasn't as crunchy and dense as I like it. Cant say they have mastered bread as yet.. although 5 out of 5 for presentation!
A. T.
Definitely one of my favourite cafes. The service is consistently good, coffee is fantastic and cakes delicious. Best lemon cake in melbourne. Once it was precut (which means it doesn't taste as fresh as it dries out), and they insisted on giving me an extra fresh slice to take home. Highly recommend.
K. A.
Why photo of my house been taken off? I need the photo of my house
D. S.
Love Ned's Bake!! Awesome food. Fantastic customer service and an overall great product from breakfast, lunch and dinner. Have tried the bread and its without a doubt the best bread you can find in Melbourne!! Great work to Ned & his team!! This will most definately be my new go-to cafe and bar in South Yarra - exactly what the area has needed for a long time!!! (Love that you are now licensed too)

Fabulous bread and cakes, reasonable prices, but the coffee took ages to arrive & seemed to have been forgotten. And when the waiter spilled coffee all over a neighbouring table, walls and floors, ignored it for ages and then proceeded to wipe the floor first and the table next with the same cloth I lost my appetite..

It's been YEARS since I've found such a huge selection of high quality pastries, cakes and bread in Melbourne. I buy the ham & cheese croissant often on my way to work - it's divine, with a filling like bechamel sauce. The plain croissants are so crispy and perfect.
Their cakes are so delicious... millefoglie OMG
The gluten free loaves made the most delicious toast.
I love the open kitchen, it adds to the authenticity of the place.
I thought they were Italian, but one of the bakers said they work to an ancient french recipe.
Want the real thing? It's here at Ned's.
Perfect food, friendly staff - 10 out of 10!!
r. j.
Funkified bread vibe, ciabatta is delish, list, textured bread.. feels- always more carbs
S.
Amazing croissants, but for coffee go across the road to Coffee Geeks. Much better coffee!
J. R.
Popped in here at 5pm for a glass of wine with some friends. Which ended up being a bottle. After apologetically letting us know they needed to close at 6pm they presented us with 6 baguettes. Great wine, great service. Will be back!
J. R.
AMAZING!! If u appreciate french/italian food & breads, you'll fall in love with this place! You've got to give it a try, especially the coffee and croissants, DELICIOUS!!! Atmosphere is more than casual, but not at all pretentious. A little pricey, but well worth it, I dont mind paying a bit more if I know the quality is high. Neds never disappoints.
M. B.
Great food, delicious bread. Very nice staff and awesome atmosphere. I loved the fact that you can see the guys making bread while having breakfast. Totally a must return!
S. A.
I liked this sourdough, and came back! The staff were so friendly and kind, so I liked this shop too. Thank you so much for entertaining me in spite of this situation.
J. M.
Neds is our favorite bakery in South Yarra. They have great pastry (please try the Nutella Cruffin)! Everything I ate so far was delicious :)
S. H.
I was expecting more from this place from the other reviews. It was nice and casual but the service was a average and when compared to the local competition I wouldn't return. Good for a quick gourmet toastie & glass of wine, I think we just pick the wrong things.
M. T.
We had a fantastic experience. All of the staff were friendly and attentive. The coffee was superb as was the food. Well done 👍
J. P.
We just moved to QLD and we miss this place so much! You cannot find this quality of food anywhere else ! Great service and 5 star coffee too :) Miss you guys x
L. G.
Had one of the most amazing experiences. It was the end of the day and spontaneously decided to stop and had amazing wine, beautiful food platters and a tiramisu that ignited taste buds I didn't know I had. It's like we had been transported to Italy
T. D.
Great food, famously good breads and pastries 🥧, friendly staff and a wholesome vibe. Strongly recommended.
J. K.
What a welcome addition to South Yarra ! Gorgeous fit out and an incredible array of baked goods. All beautifully crafted. Great coffee and a welcome greeting from the owner will make this a hot spot for the South Yarra neighbourhood. Congrats. 👏👍 Jane K
S. P.
Love this place so much. The variety of pastries and food alternatives was great! Went for breakfast but keen to try the lunch menu very soon!
C. W.
The food is pretty good but the pricing and services really lets the place down. I've only ever grabbed stuff to go from here and every single time I've come here I've had a hard time getting someone to take my order. I'm not typically one to complain about service quality but even once you finally get someone's attention, the staff act like you're massively inconveniencing them.
C. H.
Lovely cakes, pastries and light meals served at the table with good cheer. Very popular at any time, but the staff will always look after you.
M. R.
Our usual Sunday morning Post football brunch spot. Good coffee. Sourdough is great, large selection of treats!
R. B.
The brioche porchetta rolls are delicious here. Cakes and brunch are excellent. The staff here are all lovely even if it is packed with patrons.
Ru
A. H.
Good Vego pizza and nice coffee
D. H.
Huge selection of fresh pastries and bread, with good coffee. At night it transforms into fresh pizza and pasta bar. Pastries are a little over priced ($6 for a croissant), but that's South Yarra for you.
B. T.
Coffee and Caesar ciabatta were fantastic. Will definitely return.
K. A.
Nice food and the open kitchen is cool but more vegan options would be good. Food portions aren't well balanced - too much of some elements.
S. W.
Good coffee, nice selection of pastries. Amazing service from a Scottish lass, even scored a loaf of bread on the house! Recommended.
D. T.
Busy place, the range was a bit depleted, but I did enjoy my sandwich.
J. L.
Beautiful setting, great range of baked goods. Great spot for a catch up with a quick bite. Would definitely recommend this cafe to friends and family.
M. O.
Fantastic variety of food great breakfast selection and many delicious, sweet treats. Service is very welcoming and charming.

Wish there were more places like this in Melbourne. Well done to all your staff 👏🏼
R. M.
Their bread is soo good, so is the coffee, so are the staff, love this place.
M.
Had a good meal. Bought great bread. Our waiter looked lost and awkward. No point having Italian waiters if they are comfortable being wait staff
T. W.
Amazing selection of pastries and sandwiches. It all looks so fresh. The staff are very attentive also. Love coming here
G. A.
Great service, great food. Gotta support local in sh*try lockdown 💗👍
C. V.
Awesome pastries and baked goods and they're stocked abundantly.
K. M.

R. J.
This is an amazing bakery it is our 2nd visit on our holiday as we have fallen for the amazing food and extra special service we have received.
Thankyou Ned’s. From The Jansens -Gold Coast
J. W.
Great quality, but $16 for a small chicken sani, just feels a bit of a pi$$ take to me! Take $3 off that and we're 5*
A. B.
Sampled some of Ned's patisserie and fresh baked ciabatta. Amazing!!! Can't wait for the kitchen to open to give it a try. Love the fitout too.
A. D.
Always great bread and pastries. Worth the wait
P. L.
Delicious croisants! I will be back. Mmm
A. N.
Friendly staff. Fast service. My order for breakfast was not great. It came cold and lacked spice. Overall, a great experience in a wonderful place.
S. M.
Toast not properly toasted, resembled a soft sponge ,runny yolk eggs came out firm.
Soooo disappointed ,no matter how busy a cafe is, no excuse for ordinary food
G. S.
Bakery in South Yarra which makes and serves awesome quality food. Great options for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Watch the bakers in action. Yummy desserts well worth a visit.
L. R.
Food standard and ordinary. Decor dated will not be coming back in a hurry with so much more choice around the corner in Chapel St. Prahran.
R. M.
Lovely cafe and fantastic bread to buy. Would definatelt recommend.
A. S.
Great coffee, delicious fare, excellent home made soup, bread to die for...lose a star for lack of loo paper in the ladies and mens loo messy....customers can be held to blame for messy mens...
J. C.

A. S.
Great place, local to me and friendly staff. Great coffee! keep up the good work guys
R. H.
A cool looking venue but the meatball baguette was nothing short of cold wet dog food on a crusty roll.
H. C.
Really nice food - great bakery & patisserie, but staff are slammed, so things can be unexpectedly slow.
J. H.
Great brunch. Staff also gave us some free bread to take away with us. Check it out!
