Charming and beautiful cafe with an absolutely fabulous and very large outdoor area. Doggos are welcome. They have a liquor licence and a decent cocktail list - the meals tend to be over $20 but they’re delicious. Coffee was good and quick service. Parking is pretty easy on side streets. Well worth a visit.

Absolutely beautiful Cafe! Staff are friendly and efficient. Meun is large and varied with with options to suit most diets. Food was fresh, with twists on old favourites as well as original ideas. Plating was gorgeous. Lots of seating in the garden area. The whole place is whimsical and there is an emphasis on greenery and beauty. Perfect for a brunch. Large tables for groups available as well. On street parking. Chai latte wasn't very good, bu I went in a large group and all other meals and drinks were highly recommended. Fresh juices are amazing.

The place is just beautiful. Breakfast needs to be refined by the management. I got smashed avo on bagel: Bagel was not soft enough. The eggs should be running but mine had a tiny bit viscous in the middle. Flowers made it pretty but the dish was not how it should be. My wife’s dish was stacked Halloumi cheese with fritter. It was so hard to cut through the fritter as the crust was hard solid. If I threw it on a wall, it may create a hole. If you cut it though, it tasted good. Very crunchy though. At the end, I told the waiter who got our bill about the eggs in Smashed avo. He was not interested. I may consider to go there to eat again. Hopefully the waiters listens to my advice and transfer the advice to their chef. However, it is definitely worth seeing the gorgeous garden. I must commend their gardener as the old Man invested on him/her. He should also invest on the meals to come out right.

Pretty place that has lots of character and atmosphere. Staff were pleasant and order arrived relatively quickly, although it was Friday morning and they weren't very busy. The menu on the website does not reflect what is available in store and needs to be updated. Food is pricey but average taste. Therefore I feel like there is room for improvement.

I was hoping for more from this place. It promises a lot, but unfortunately the experience wasn't quite what it could be. The aesthetic here is amazing, and just for that it's definitely worth giving it a visit. The coffee is quite good, but the food really just doesn't taste as good as it should for the price, despite the nice presentation. Yeah, so the food was a bit bland unfortunately. Serving sizes are perhaps slightly light-handed as well. Another consideration was the ~45 minute wait for food... So I can't say it was an amazing overall experience unfortunately, however I've still given four stars just because this place has such a cool vibe and aesthetic... it's worth coming for that alone (won't be in a hurry to order food from here again though...).

This place is amazing! I celebrated my 30th birthday in the garden which was wonderful. The staff were very attentive, the food was lovely and plentiful. Dorothy said she would take care of everything and she did not disappoint. Highly recommend!

This place is extremely amazing! Unfortunately it wasn't sunny when I went there so couldn't sit outside and enjoy the cozy garden and hidden spots there. Perfect for vintage, flower, plant and coffee lovers for sunny morning visit! For a during the week breakfast, it wasn't too busy which was probably a good thing. Didn't have to wait at all for food or drinks and service/staff was friendly,happy and helpful. Food was very delicious too!

Lovely venue with garden setting as well. Good clean facilities and pleasant especially coming out of COVID lockdown. I think most of us are just happy to get back to normality by having a pleasant tea or coffee with friends and family and this venue will not disappoint. We had a high tea and although pleasant l did expect a little bit more from the food and desserts, good but basic, certainly will return as things get back to normal.

First time we've been disappointed. 3 diners and 1 meal arrived 15 mins after the first 2, and that was only after we asked where it was. Arrived 5 mins later and we had finished our meals. Then the meal wasn't right. We were told that the "kitchen was really busy". Poor organising skills. They didn't charge for the meal and apologised, which was a positive. Would return but DEFINATELY NOT on the weekend when they are busy.

Stumble upon this cute cafe in Ascot Vale. It looks like a small cafe from outside, but inside is a whole new world, so cosy and lovely. The food is is delicious with well-balanced flavour! Can't wait to come back next time 🙂

This is my new favorite place. They actually serve tea in bone china cups. Hooray for someone getting tea right... Awesome food & generous serves...the decor & ambiance is amazing, so many little spots to chill in...the garden is quaint & quirky. I had breakfast this time, next time afternoon tea...so many delicious delights to choose from. This is my all time favorite place now.

Aside from the beautiful establishment and lovely decor, the meal I had ordered was absolutely delicious. Large portion, filled with flavour and totally worth the money. (Scrambled eggs) The flat white almond was equally as divine. Would highly recommend this establishment as the service was equally as great.

Great place with a great vibe. We sat outside which was well sheltered from wind. Our table felt private out in a well spaced garden. The menu was small but the food amazing and fresh. I had the smashed avocado bagel, expensive but fresh and great to treat myself... also good to know I'm supporting local. They are known for their high teas I'm told and had a range of cakes n chocolates if that's what you're after. Very antique like setting, I enjoyed it very much, if possible, try it sit outside or in the court yard. The setup is absolutely awesome, you cannot fault this place for the great range of so many different things they have there, from the nursery to the plants to the warme heaters, with seats with thick cushions, to the products that they sell Jams ,spreads chocolates that you won't find in your average store. The atmosphere and simple beauty of this place is amazing. I've known this store for a long time before it was a cafe, and the family have really made a wonderful tribute to Vic Drew and his old store. The food was delicious, and the staff were all really lovely. My only complaint would be that we were served by about 5 different staff members, often asking the same questions, they clearly didn't have a staff table assignment system in place. Highly recommend brunch here, or attending one of their special events including high tea. Will definitely be going back here in the future.

This is a long established and loved local cafe, tea room, and function centre located on Mount Alexander Road in Ascot Vale. Their are a lot of quaint touches throughout, such as floral fine bone china, embroidered napkins and table cloths, etc. Reservations are highly recommended as this venue is often full.

I am huge fan of this venue and have enjoyed several brunch dates here with great satisfaction. I would rate it 5/5 for brunch and coffees. The venue is delightful and the menu lovely. Our first high tea today seemed to fall very short of the mark however. Service was disorganized, the food subpar and the tea pot was literally 30% tea leaves. It was so freaking strong you could stand a spoon up in it. Two of our party felt they needed to have another meal after we left, the portions seemed a bit scant for what should have been a feast of delights. For the high cost, it really fell short. The venue however was unmatched in style and oh so very cozy. If you want a cute venue then this is a great location. I will return for brunch and it will be just as delightful and much more affordable, adding up to a more satisfying experience.

Be careful this beautiful little oasis in the heart of Ascot Vale is almost hard to spot, but more than worth the hunt! This English tea garden inspired eatery is more than just a cafe, it's an experience! With a all the hidden little areas you could visit this place more than once and not see it all. The cellar room is an awesome little "man cave" and the mirrored atrium stunning! The cakes and food are delicious and decadent and the atmosphere is of another time and place. Pretty please take the time out to visit this place, it's truly beautiful.

The food was tasty, however didnt walk away from there thinking "that was amazing"! Coffee is good and their cake display looks very enticing! Great atmosphere, tables are separated enough that you dont feel like you are dining with other tables. Its a large space, but feels comfortable and cosy due to being split up across rooms. I feel prices are are bit on the high side for what you get and comparing to other similar places. $26 for an eggs benedict is a bit rich, and the slab of speck you get with it doesnt exactly make the meal any better than other options available out there. All in all its ok.

You can't beat Old Man Drew for the aesthetic. Gorgeous plants everywhere, expansive yet comfortable. Like a grandma's house on steroids. Their food and drinks could be better though. (There are a couple vegan and gluten free options but not much). If they redid the menu or reworked the dishes it would be five stars. So, highly recommend for the atmosphere and feel, but you can get better food and coffee.

Honestly so impressed by Old Man Drew. The outdoor seating area is so pretty, smoothie was delicious and the staff were so friendly. I had my one year old son with me and the staff were so wonderful with him. Multiple staff members stopped to talk to him, play with him, give him toys and his babycinno was delightful. I don't know if we just got them on a bad day but not sure I'll be back. Called up to book a table but was gruffly told that they had plenty available for walk ins and was not able to book a table. Arrived and was asked if I had a booking to then get the impression that a walk in was not that welcome or might not be able to be accommodated. Was then taken to one lovely table in the garden and made it clear I was very happy and grateful for the lovely spot only to be moved 5 minutes later as that table had a booking (assume miscommication from whomever told the waitress that one was free). Was moved to a table with uncomfortable metal seats, thankfully they had cushions. Coffee was terrific, went down a treat. The two staff members who took our orders and brought the wine were friendly. Meals were nice enough but pricing seems hit and miss. Haloumi stack for $26 is excessive when compared to the lamb shoulder meal at the same price. When the bill arrived they had incorrectly charged us for our bottle of wine (there was one bottle of prosecco on the menu they provided us with) and the staff were then loudly making comments to eachother that "it's always been $50 and that's such a good price", after it was fixed on our bill. If your menu is wrong don't try to make your customers feel guilty because it won't work and you just look unprofessional for trying.

My only complaint is no splitting of bills or paying for what you have when in a group. Not sure if they allow this if you order at the counter and then sit down. It was table service. I find this very frustrating and Australia needs to get with the program in this area. Anywhere you go in Europe and America they split bills...it’s the done thing.

My most favourite place to meet up with others. As soon as you step over the threshold it reminds me of Alice in Wonderland. The staff are great - they know how to look after their clients. The food is just the way Grandma baked. The cleverly eclectic style of decor is cleverly done throughout with old world items tucked in little nooks and crannies throughout the property (as Alice falls down the rabbit hole!). The staff were incredible: special mention to Helen and Dorothy whom spent time and effort helping me create a lovely lady's luncheon, perfectically executed even with a large booking. The place has original charm and eclectically designed, every room and every space is enchanting and worthy of coming back to enjoy for a different feel and experience. I cannot wait to return and enjoy more of their wonderful food and menu options. I am still thinking about the yummy Schnitzel roll and home made beef pie that i shared.

We had a very enjoyable high tea experience on Saturday 26 October 2019. The delicious combination of savory and sweet food was amazing, not to mention the exquisite ambience the owners have created upstairs even down to the last detail in the bathroom. I must however pass on our disappointment with the sausage rolls which were dry and appeared to be reheated and not made on the day. I suppose our expectation for $85 ph would be that everything was made fresh for your arrival.

I celebrated my birthday at old man drew, just booked a table at the mirrors area and they organised it beautifully. Flowers, cute plates, morning tea, seasonal fruits, scones, banana bread and even a jug of refreshing fruity water. The staff were over the top, the food delicious and great coffee. Setting lovely, food really nice. I've been to the cafe and this time we did the high tea. The high tea needs better organisation. The tables were so close people couldn't get past, so lots of standing up for the waiter or people needing the loo. Not too busy though, better positioning would have fixed that. One pot of tea, one pot of jam and one pot of cream for 8 people meant we were just waiting. Seems silly but this did affect the meal, just constantly waiting for everyone else to finish was annoying and an easy fix. There were a few little things like this that overall did affect our enjoyment. Easily fixed and for the price I think it should be.

I'm not very familiar around Ascot Vale but one of my jobs is to be on the road most of the time. I had to look for a cafe around the area to finish some task and this was the nearest cafe I could find. I ordered a quick simple lunch which was their home-made meat pie and a soy latte. I wasn't really paying attention to getting some food. I just needed a place where I could do my job quickly and comfortably. Then the food arrived and oh boy.... The BEST MEAT PIE I have ever tasted! Even the pastry of the meat pie is ridiculously good!!! I highly suggest this place and the staff are very kind too. Will spread the news and recommend to all my friends and family x

Take some time inside to learn about who old man Drew was and his time serving in World War 1. This place could have been another giant development but thanks to Drew's family the site has been reborn. The commitment and passion to the garden, the food, the building and Drew's legacy is clear and comes through in spades. Do yourself a favour and get yourself down there.

This has been reflected throughout the mindful and tasteful interior designs— the lounge, counter, garden, high tea rooms and function venues. The old memories of the place are integrated with modern elements which also are mirrored through the menu design. For me it is a balanced combination of French elegance and English country style. Yes, I admire the mind of whoever behind this excellent achievement in design. My Coffee and food are 5 star too. It was not just a delightful experience of dining there but more also becomes part of the stylish culture. It is like wearing the label of Vivien Westwood and then becoming part of that community. So I highly recommend the uniquely born gem outside the kingdom of cafes in the popular areas like Fitzroy, Collingwood and such.

For a $50 breakfast (for two) we could be eating Cape Grim Beef in Albert Park or King fish sashimi in South Melbourne, by notable chef's. My last three weekend breakfasts are case in point: The Kettle Black, South Melbourne: Kale/Cauliflower salad (w/ seasonal greens, miso, almond hummus, avocado, seeds, w/ poached egg) $19.5 - it was perfection! Top Paddock, Richmond: Breakfast Salad (Sauteed kale, broccolini, pumpkin puree, tamari seeds, miso dressing, w/ poached egg) $21.--Just the way it should be. Old Man Drew: Pumpkin/kale salad (w/ hummus, avocado and quinoa) NO poached egg - $22. It was plain ordinary, lacked sophistication and yet was the most expensive of all. In terms of a quality and price point, there's no comparison. Great place to take your mum for tea/coffee and cake but sorry, OMD really needs to justify charging what they do, for what it delivers.
