Comments of The Bond Store
I. M.
Would highly recommend this cafe for breakfast. Premium quality smoked salmon and beautifully scrambled eggs. The best Matcha latte I have ever had. Great service and atmosphere. Thank you.
N. S.
My review states "Average"
Food was unfussy but tasted good.
Coffee was very slow especially as they went overly busy.
Price was good.
S. R.
Hands down one of the best places I’ve been to for breakfast/brunch.
Amazing customer service, friendly, genuine and fast!
The food was amazing. Generous pricing for the quality and quantity of food.
The coffee was next level incredible.
Will definitely return soon!
C. P.
Bathing particularly bad, just average food and under seasoned. Wouldn’t go out of my way to go back again. Eggs were poached well.
A. B.
Food was good quality, service 1st day was very slow, however 2nd day much improved. Staff were very friendly
C. G.
We ordered the breakfast bun, salmon Benedict and the Rueben, all delicious and came out fast
S. S.
Super lovely cafe. Good staff and food selections
J. B.
An absolute hidden gem! Excellent coffee, a great breakfast and lunch menu. Best of all is the really well presented building, it is so inviting. This would have to be my favorite cafe in Melbourne - and I can't wait to get back there!
S. N.
Having walked past this venue during many "normal" work days because it has been too busy, it was great to be able to take advantage of a relatively quiet Saturday afternoon during "Covid normal" and sample the food and service.
Both are great.
Service is attentive; food is fresh, well presented, and good quality; coffee is good.
The menu was mostly comprised of "brunch" style dishes.
However, in trying both the steak sandwich and the Reuben sandwich, they were very tasty and well priced.
Will definitely return at the next opportunity.
E. B.
Nice outdoor seating, decent food and coffee.
A. M.
The Bond Store is a very convenient and hidden book with great coffee and good breakfast choices. They can whip up a great breakfast roll, eggs and bacon or really good muesli depending on what you're after. Our last visit had us ordering the superfood salad which was huge and really well made. Can't go wrong if you're near Riverside quay and need a quiet place to brunch at.
C. R.
Superb Melbourne cafe experience. Service was 10/10 from start to finish. Possibly the best avo on toast to be found in Australia complimented by great coffee and happy customers all around.
S. K. L.
Amazing food. Beautiful setting. Loved to come here 😍
Y. W.
This is a hidden place good to hide from the boss! Joke aside, the place felt a bit mysterious since we entered through their back door passing through a gate with private property sign.
The restaurant was a bit dark and warehouse like but stylish too. We ordered their vegetarian dishes and both were really good.
Their smoothie and juice were nice too but they come from prepackaged bottles. I was hoping they made them fresh.
The staff were friendly and attentive. So, overall it was a good experience.
We will come back again next time to try their other dishes.
R. F. S.
Great ambience and yummy food. Generous portions. The reason for the lower rating was due to staff serving us. She was not courteous at all. Spilt water on the table didnt apologise.
A. D.
Good service, great coffee and delicious food in a lovely setting.
Situated in an old factory with tasteful remnants of its industrial past on display, this cafe is warm and inviting. It has subdued lighting in a spacious dining area.
The venue is well staffed with plenty of personal, even for busy times. They are friendly and efficient, delivering you a coffee within a few minutes of arrival.
The coffee is very good. Served in a single size only, it is strong with very little acidity.
I ordered a smoked salmon bagel from the menu. It was simple (as it should be) with generous proportions and fresh ingredients. The service was fast (within 5 minutes) but not rushed.
It is worth the small detour from the tourist trap of the waterfront to this lovely cafe. As always with Melbourne, the restaurants on display inevitably disappoint while those slightly hidden surprise you.
R.
espresso was great. good environment, nice and quiet
C. F.
The Bondstore Cafe, with its warm and earthy wood interior, is a relaxing and non-pretentious location, serving cafe classics and paninis for a reasonable price; I specifically came here because I was craving smashed avo but didn't want to pay CBD prices over $19 a serve (!) I found the staffto be very attentive, and the ambience is truly unbeatable for escaping the city bustle for a spell.
I.
Really enjoyed my breakfast with my wife after some dining restrictions have been lifted due to Co-vid 19. Very attentive staff and great tasting food. Great location and I really like the rustic look of the brickwork.
P. C. K.
Given the convenient location, I have been here a number of times for lunch and breakfast. I really wish this place was better though. The setting is really nice and charming. The old interior and the decor makes you feel like you're in a European cafe. The staff are really nice but the person who I assume is the manager/owner is not the most welcoming. Unfortunately the food is just okay. They use packet chips as a side, which is pretty uninspiring. Compared to other cafes the breakfast portions are really stingy and you have to spend around $27 with add ons for a decent breakfast. There is very little love in the food and the menu is pretty lackluster. Its a real shame as there is such great potential given that they are blessed with such a beautiful building. I really hope they review their menu.
P. C. (. H.
Well it’s my local so of course I’m going to say it’s good. But no head banging music and great coffee and cosy atmosphere works for me
T. C.
Very nice, cozy café. People who have tried the breakfast bun (burger?) really enjoyed it. I like the cheese toasties 👌🏼👌🏼. The muesli is so delicious and toasty and yummy. The Benedict is good too. A nice spot that is tucked away, but definitely worth visiting! A little bit pricey but it’s close to a lot of offices and apartments, so the short walk makes up for it.
L. L. K.
We liked this place. Food was yummy. Staff were friendly. Service was swift and prompt! There’s take away service. Chill coffee music, rustic interior with ‘raw’ red bricks wall. Love it.
M. H.
Decent coffee, maybe a smidge weak if I’m being picky. Friendly service. I only had takeaway coffee, but the atmosphere is very nice here, so I’d definitely like to have breakfast or lunch one day.
G. L.
We have been to The Bond Store a number of times now for brunch. The service, food and coffee quality, friendliness of staff and atmosphere is fantastic. It's a little hidden gem in Southbank and I would recommend it to anyone. We will be back, regularly. Thankyou guys, you have an awesome team. You blow a lot of place around you out of the water.
R. N.
The bond store’s coffee and avocado on toast is the best! Great customer service who make you feel special 😊
I. C.
Great for takeaway coffee and fruit toast, but the dine-in food was disappointing. Bagel was old and chewy, capers dried and shrivelled, eggs slightly overcooked. Lots of potential, lovely space, but in a heatwave they would benefit from aircon - we were sweating through breakfast!
장.
They re-opened finally! The store looked very fancy. They have nice and new wooden tables and the bar also looked amazing. Incredibly busy Saturday morning but warm greeting, very nice coffee and great service with a smile as always. We waited a little, but it was definitely worth it. Xwaffles were not that impressiveX
A. K.
Very hospitable staff and good service. Not often the wait staff offer to substitute a side for not having bread with the eggs. Nice touch and welcomed change for spinach. Managed to resist the pastry selection this time! Recommended 😎
J. H.
Had a great lunch here, the farmhouse eggs benedict was one of the nicest variations I have had. Coffee and service was also excellent, perfect for a quick but delicious working lunch or longer catch up.
M. (.
Nice enough environment - can be very hard to get staff’s attention for follow up water / coffees. After lunch they will also start cleaning the bar and floor area with super smelly cleaning fluid even though the cafe is full - like a subtle message to everyone to hurry up, finish your coffees and get out because we want to go home !
J. C.
Really liked the food. The service was friendly but I'm not sure of my kiwi accent threw the waitress off as she didn't get what I was asking when trying to enquire what was in the curry special. The soup of the day was sold out by 12.30 on a Thursday so got the chicken curry instead and it was very good. Chai was nice too and overall has a nice vibe about the place, especially for winter.
A. B.
A lovely little place. Went for brunch and had the smashed avo dish, which was nice, but could have done with more feta for flavour. Coffee was nice but more on the luke warm, milky side.
R. P.
When they first opened the coffee was indeed up there with the best in Melbourne. Nice touches such as old silver spoons to put the sugar in if you're that sort of person. ;-)
It started to go down hill for a while, but I think it's improving again. Was there last week and the coffee was pretty good. Can't really say what the food is like as I've never eaten anything there! I just go for the coffee.
You can get take away, but really it's better to sit down at one of the tables and have it from a proper cup.
B. C.
Delicious food, but so-so coffee, definitely on the weaker side.
Very cute little venue, great to see the history integrated. Staff were all friendly.
V. A.
The bond store is a quiet restaurant and brunch place located near southbank
It is at a beautiful location where it’s not too sunny and the vibes of the place are so good. The staff is extremely professional and really friendly.
We ordered muesli , coffee and bagel and they were fresh, warm and definitely in good quantities.
Really great for a Sunday brunch or a grab on the go.
A. B.
Ive been coming here for a long time. The coffee is always on point and the lunch options are always changing. An old favourite was the poached chicken ciabatta, but isnt on the menu anymore. The Tonkatsu Pork burger is great,.and the beef cheek sandwich is also very good. Reasonably priced for a very high quality of food. Would definitely recommend as the service is always exceptional as well
G. S.
This cafe simply oozes atmosphere! The building, brickwork, furniture, lighting & sounds all create a must-visit spot if you're in the area for really good coffee or breakfast (I never managed to try the lunch).
I'd highly recommend the smashed avo, which is a generous serving & great value for money.
A. M.
This place is very cool. Nice vibe and an awesome place to hang out on a dark winters day. The coffee is good indeed, but I found the food wasn't all that special unfortunately. The scrambled eggs were a bit bland. But will definitely come back and give it another chance!
G. M.
Located in corner and it has a different look when compared to others. The place has a vintage look which is good for a change. The place is nice and the staff members are very helpful. The meals are good and the cofee is also exceptional.
The place has a good collection of liquor and its also a good place to grab a drink and enjoy the day.
M. Z.
Great cafe hidden away off of Southbank's busy prominade. Fantastic coffee and food with excellent service. I especially enjoy the cozy ambience inside; its cool industrial vibe lends itself heavily to its history. Try the salmon bagel and breakfast bun; you won't be disappointed!!
A. N.
I lived a minute(literally) away from The Bond Store for the last two years and have never bothered checking the place out until last Saturday when it was pouring rain and I wanted to grab some lunch.
The interior was surprisingly warm and cozy. We were there late afternoon so it was nice and quiet and had the whole place to ourselves.
My wife tried the laksa and even though it wasn't really authentic like a laksa should be, it was still pretty tasty and it came with a serve of rice too which was good.
I went for my usual smash avocado with eggs on toast and it was nice. Nothing impressive but it was good enough for when I'm in a pickle to get some food.
The non-breakfasty stuff looked more delicious though so I might give them a go next time.
Update: it’s my go to coffee every weekend or when I’m home from work these days.
Would be nice if they had some sort of coffee card for loyal customers but it’s not the end of the world.
Staff and owner are extremely friendly and nice too. 👍
M. I.
Great place to get a coffee and a bit to eat in a historic building in the heart of Southbank. The decor is charming a the food portions are just right. Will definitely return next time we are in Melbourne.
L. F.
Quality coffee and a great breakfast in a rustic setting! Have been to the Bond Store many times and they are consistently great! Fast, friendly service. Thank you
A. L.
Nice cafe tucked in a side street close to the sky deck tower.
Good quality cafe food. I tried the house made toasted muesli and it was delish. Coffee was good too.
Quick service and friendly staff.
A. C.
Stopped by for a quick morning coffee. One of the best coffees I've ever had! Really pretty historical building. Will have to come back and try the food!
T. D.
Wonderful service, great coffee and delicious breakfast 🥰
B. T.
Had the Breakfast Bun and a beer for breaky for Good Beer Week. There was a very good amount of bacon, the egg was fried well, could have been a bit funnier Nd the relish was yummy. Great service but the waitress was floundering a bit when we asked for the beer menu at 10am.
B.
The food was okay, staff were nice but the bathrooms were pretty eh... where you eat has an awesome theme and it's fantastic to sit in but going to the bathroom kinda ruined that for me. Why doesn't the theme continue to and inside the bathroom? And the bins weren't emptied in ages, tap was dripping, just felt hmmm and unclean. And next to the kitchen so yeah... made me feel less positive about the place.
A. H.
I've been once for takeaway, and once for dine in. Both times received friendly service. Coffee is decent, especially for the immediate area, and the food was good, bordering on excellent. Prices can edge a little high, but not unexpected for the area. Recommended.
D. N.
I often meet up with a chum who works nearby in Southbank. We generally go for lunch or afternoon tea. The old Bond Store is a very old building which has a lot of charm and character. Whilst we love the convenience and ambience for catching up with each other's news l am unable to give more than 3 stars as the lunch menu items are so ordinary and, if l owned the place, l would sack the chef or insist that the menu be given a thorough "refresh" which is sorely overdue . So folks don't go there for the food but rather enjoy the fact that it is a really neat place for a cuppa and/or Crown Lager with friends. Prices are a tad on the upside but are still quite reasonable by South bank standards.
S. S.
Make a great coffee and staff are so friendly and meet you with a big smile as u enter there building.. and yes they are still open and doing take out food..
N. S.
Bond Store is an old brick warehouse conversion, apartments upstairs, cafe downstairs. Exposed brick, high ceilings & wooden bistro furniture contribute a sense of establishment and history sorely lacking in the built-up Southbank area.
Draws a corporate lunch crowd who take advantage of the brisk lunch service and reliably good coffee.
The ambience is professional enough for an intimate lunch meeting, relaxed enough for coffee with a girlfriend.
Not a good place to sit outdoors simply because the pavement is so busy and the tables are small, okay for a latte but not truly big enough to eat a meal at, head inside to eat and enjoy classic cafe lunch options served high-quality, no-fuss.
Always a nice selection of slices and tea cakes in the cabinet if you need a sweet pick-me-up.
Eggs Benedicte is good here.
The bread is always tasty (above average) whether under eggs, or in a brown bagged sandwich.
C. E.
Always great coffee and friendly, efficient service. Their breakfasts and baked goods are yummy too. Cool atmosphere.
T. W.
Great coffee and there three cheese toasted sandwich OMG
J. H.
Xlnt place for laid back cosy atmosphere. Xlnt coffee. Great varied menu, but not overly extensive, but cheap. Xlnt value. Worth a visit for bfst. Near the Langham Hotel.
A. A.
I was expecting to be let down, given the high rating and that it is in a pretty touristy area. But the Bond Store completely delivered! Nice atmosphere and staff but, most importantly, delicious food and coffee - not just designed to be instagrammed
V. D.
You can still get your avo on toast but the food and coffee is lacking that pizzazz. It does make up in the ambient dim space where you can hide from work for 15 minutes, but let's face it you'll probably see someone from your office here.
G. S.
Fantastic coffee & breakfast meals, I'd highly recommend the smashed avo - amazing! This cafe brings it all together - food, coffee, atmosphere, staff - to create something truely special.
E. J.
If you're rushing to work but want a coffee, pop in here on your way from the station. They'll have your order out to you in about a minute and a half most mornings. Excellent coffee too.
S. V.
Great food and coffee!! Andy is also super friendly and welcoming. Great local cafe and coffee
J. T.
Nice hidden local place. Great breakfast/lunch options on weekdays and brunch on Saturdays. Rueben was delicious and a hearty serve. Staff are excellent. There's dine in options and some good choices for take-away also.
P.
Amazing coffee! Fab service and the breakfast is delicious modern and not pretentious. Great for family of 5 . Excellent location close to Southbank Promenade.
E. W.
If you are looking for a bit of calm in the busy city and looking for a coffee shop where you can sit down and have some brekkie away from the crowds, maybe even a work meeting then heavily recommend this place.
Also serves all day breakfast!
S. H.
I'm from Sydney and this place is a big reason why I look forward to going to Melbourne. My drink of choice is a short black and they produce it to perfection every time. Consistency is their name which is why I return there time and time again. Best espresso in Melbourne.
S. J.
Great service, coffee came out in literally one minute and was delicious. Atmosphere is cozy and it's the best breakfast I've eaten in a long time!
S. K. (.
Very nice layout and decor, the service fantastic, very quick too. Coffee was excellent and I'm a very tough critic, I had the roast beef sandwich and it was delicious. Highly recommend.
Gawk Phillips.
F. M.
Great space - it’s great to see the inside of the old building kept. Friendly staff and an awesome almond milk chia pudding and filter coffee. Handy spot just behind the main strip of Southgate.
A. G.
Had an exquisite almond milk coffee and a delicious meal. Everything was spot on - service, food, coffee. Well worth a visit if you want good coffee in Southbank.
R. M.
Nice place with friendly service and just a short walk across the river from my studio, so like to visit with my clients for coffee and out of session catch-up
P. M.
Really good hot strong long black coffee. Terrific friendly fast service. Great laid back charming cafe in an old renovated building. Love it here.
M. H.
Great little escape from the pre-fab concrete jungle of Southbank - set on the ground floor of the incredible 1800's red brick Bond Store with speedy, friendly service of great hot and cold breakfast and quality coffee. Perfect for breakfast meetings.
G. D.
Definitely one of the better coffee places along Southbank. Very popular weekday mornings, but well worth the wait. Pretty good place for a sit-down breakfast.
A. C.
Great Coffee n' Milkshakes and cheeses toastie and eggs Benny with salmon.
M. C.
THE best coffee in Melbourne - prove me wrong!! :-) Well maybe it is a big statement, but The Bond Store is the best I have tasted in the past 12 years - gives me an excuse to visit more cafés to see if there's anywhere better!!
A. B.
Cozy place tucked away. Perfect for a leisurely bite. Food is great. Yet to taste anything which I won't recommend. Easy on the budget. Absolutely try the eggs Benedict.
C. E.
Loved the ambience of this historic building. Evidently popular for informal business meetings over coffee and breakfast but a great option also for guests from nearby hotels.
T. L.
Great atmosphere and food is top notch. Coffee as good as you would demand given it's a good Australian cafe.
B. S.
My hidden favorite cafe.
Good smash avo with sausage, coffee is good too. Great decor, friendly staff.
D. M.
Very accommodating staff, great food and coffee.
C. L.
Nice place for a quick catch up with friends or colleagues for an informal chat. Good friendly service. Have had coffees and a breakfast of toasted banana bread with honey from here
T. T.
Food and coffee is lovely but the cafe is not baby-friendly. There are steps everywhere and there is not a safe place for nappy-change in the toilet.
D. W.
The coffee here sis better than at any other cafe in Southbank the team are quite nice and always help as well. My daily coffee spot. 👌🏼
M. T. C.
Excellent cooked breakfast, friendly service and a very atmospheric location. If you're staying in Southbank you'll find lots of flashy places that are nowhere near as good as this.
O.
2/3 times coffee is good, but dine in experience today was average. Bitter coffee and sub par food. I expected a lot better.
C. T.
Breakfast/lunch place tucked beside Eureka skydeck building. Industrial feel. Menu to suit carnivore or herbivore. I couldn't see wheelchair access.
K. L.
Nice cosy cafe with great food and coffee. Love the industrial rustic decor. Service is great too.
D. M.
Offers a rustic charm that is hard to find on South bank, accompanied by good easy food from a limited menu. Atmosphere warm and welcoming. Will visit again
J. B.
So far so good! Staff are friendly, wait times arent bad, prices are decent and the food is delicious. Coffee is very good also. Recommended.
D. J.
Great coffee and my partners meal was great but my scrambled eggs were pale and rubbery and tasteless was a bit disappointed
A. H.
Excellent coffee and fantastic quality food. Really warm atmosphere with friendly staff.
H.
Great atmosphere, staff and food. Waiting times were decent as were prices. Would be better with more complete plant-based options but had a wonderful experience either way :) .
G. T.
Great cafe. Great service. Andy takes great pride in his cafe. The food is amazing and great value. Historic building.
E. B.
Great to see you as a little ray of sunshine amongst the gloom. Great coffee as always!
Stay safe guys 😊
I. H.
food was nice, service a little slow and clumsy. not a bad place to check out some heritage and grab a coffee
J.
Food was amazing, but I was particularly blown away by the quality of napkins that they provide at this establishment. Came for the food, stayed for the napkins.
R. T.
It's got great atmosphere, service and food. Noice location. A must do if your in the area. Hot chocolates are great also.
J. P.
Great and well priced brunch place. Try the cheese and truffle sandwich. Coffee and atmosphere is what makes it for me.
M. (.
Great place. Best coffee in Melbourne so far. Very fast and friendly service.
E. D.
A little wait for our coffee (it's so popular). Good service and nice food.
N. S.
The best coffee in Melbourne in my opinion. Lovely service and amazing food!
A. D.
Good food and coffee. Chilli omelette wasn't spicy though
D. G.
Best breakfast I've had in a long time. Coffee is to a tee.
Thanks for the hospitality
E.
Lovely, old, rustic interior. Good coffee and food, prices very fair.
M. C. (.
Small sized coffee, good atmosphere. Pretty crowded during weekends~

Average coffee and donuts
Friendly staff.
It would be great if they can raise the quality of your coffee.

Delicious food with reasonable price. The old building contributes to nice atmosphere.
K. V.
Good coffee, great service and a beautiful place.
B. P.
Really needs a breakfast menu refresh. Who wants a giant bowl of granola and nothing else. How about some fruit with yogurt and granola on top!?
B. R.
Please stop using plastic straws. Also, juices are not freshly made (didn't see this on the menu)
W. M.
Second visit here and enjoyed the food, service and buzzy atmosphere as much as the previous experience. Will return.
J. C.
