Such a gem of traditional Malaysian crusine in the CBD area for the best kolo mee. They uses wontan mee in the dish with a bit of pork mines, char siu and fish cake. The sauce is just perfect for the mee. Taste really good. The portion also perfect for one person. Their chicken rendang also really good. Chicken is melt in the mouth and super tasty. They also served with an egg and some salad, makes it really fresh to eat. Their teh tarik also have tea and milk flavour and not too sweet. This café is hidden inside the common area next to hotel. Not easy to find. But follow the sign in front at little Collins st, you will find it. Staff are very friendly. They have few small tables for dine it. They also have some western food and snacks. Plenty of car parking nearby. Very accessible from public transport, just 2 block from Southern cross station and tram stop nearby. Will certainly come back for laksa and sambal.

One of my go-to Malaysian food spots when I’m visiting Melbs from overseas. Their sarawakian laksa is a must-have every time (also try their kolo mee) It’s slightly different than the laksa I’m used to, with less coconut milk but more aromatics/herbs. They also make a mean coffee 😍 Best of all are the owners, Uncle David and his family, who make you feel at home every time you step in.
C. P.
Uncle David, Aunty Silvia and Robyn are very hospitable. They served up quality and delicious Sarawak Laksa along with favourite teh tarik. Coffee was great as well. Little cosy corner in the city worth visiting for both their food and services.
A. H.
Staff were super friendly, and there's a huge variety of food choices and super yummy salads too. The cakes (especially brownie)is amazing. Coffee is also good 👍
K. Y.
Laksa is decent with punchy flavours. I would say that for 15 dollars the portioning seems small by Melbourne standards.
J. H.
Exceptional Tom Yum Vegetable dish for lunch. The vegetables were cooked wonderfully and the sauce was extremely flavourful. You can tell a lot of care goes into the food. I can't wait to go back to try the rest of the menu.

I rarely go to this part of the cbd but I am glad that I did last week.
We ordered the kolo mee and the nasi lemak chicken and they were so good!
Uncle David really cooked from the heart and I could feel it when I had the dishes!
The dishes were full of flavour but looked simple at the same time.
David was also very friendly and we had a quick chat too.
Really happy that I find this gem!

Coffee and food was amazing!! Such friendly staff. We ate a toasted cheese & tomato croissant and a bacon & egg muffin. The bacon and egg muffin had caramelised onions and aioli, putting it apart from your regular bacon and egg muffin. Will recommend this place.
J. W.
Uncle David serves authentic Sarawak Laksa and Kolok Mee. My wife and I enjoyed the food very much. We had a chance to chat with the owners- Uncle David, Aunty Silvia and Robyn who shared with us about their food and stories. They were passionate about food and the satisfaction of their customers. It was a great experience having Malaysian dishes at Uncle David’s Cafe.
P/s: Aunty Silvia makes delicious sambal!
Thanks,
Jeremy, Winnie & Little Aiden 😁

Always incredibly fresh and delicious! The servings are generous and have the perfect sauce to rice ratio. I love everything on the menu, but the dishes served with the fried wonton skins are stunning.
J. C. S.
The best Kuching laksa I've had outside of Kuching!
M. S.
Absolutely amazing place to go!
Good coffee and breakfast foods, and if you're feeling a bit adventurous, why not try out their speciality Malaysian dishes , cooked by uncle David himself!
I had the beef rendang and the sarawak laksaa, both were incredibly tasty, 10/10 would return!
S. N.
We had the laksa and chicken rendang today. The laksa has very flavourful, strong spices, very delicious! The rendang chicken is tender, the sambal complements the dish beautifully.
The atmosphere is warm and very friendly.
J. L.
Great food and coffee! We ordered Sarawak laksa and Kolo mee and they were both delicious. Highly recommend to try out these 2 dishes. The owner and staffs here are friendly and accommodating as well!
R. T.
Lovely family run cafe who takes great pride in their food and service. Laksa and kolo mee were delicious - homemade style, so it was not too heavy or greasy compared to some I've had. Coffee is great too and it comes with a bite of their homemade brownie.
S. W.
Coffee is amazing! Robyn and David are super friendly and welcoming and know all their regular customers by name. A beautiful cafe with great service.
A. M.
Such a great place to grab my coffee each day at work! Staff are super friendly and always up for a chat. Great family run business with yummy coffee and food 🤗
S. N.
The recipe of that laksa definitely needs to improve or modify, the taste was very mild.
Service was friendly and the shop looks clean and tidy.
L. W.
Came here to try the Sarawak Laksa.
It was impressive.
You can tell alot of love and care is put into this unique style of laksa.
Serve was slightly on the small size but given that its meant as a healthy lunch option I feel that is fine.
Beautifully accompanied by their home made sambal and lime which adds the perfect flavour burst.
L. Y.
A little tricky to find - they are a little further into the building! Beef rendang was tender and flavourful! Topped with a runny egg, just the way I like it!
P. G.
A cute little cafe within the office building serving good coffee. It is run by family where everyone contributes in some way.
They also give a little brownie or cake bite with the coffee. The pastries here are good as well.
They also offer lunch but have not tried that yet, but will in future
K. W.
Definitely head in for their Sarawak laksa, with the sambal. It may be a little hard to locate but walk into the building and you will smell the awesomeness wafting through. Can’t wait to go back and try the other food on the menu.
P. K.
Friendly staff and delicious food. Had the katsu curry. Really tasty curry sauce and a delicious and refreshing slaw.
Friendly staff with lots of appealing food options. Definitely looking forward to returning and trying the rest of the menu.
L.
I had Kolomee for my lunch here. It was really nice and yummmmmm. One of the greatest thing was they were really kind and all friendly. It was the best service I've got for few months. I'll come again later and try other yum foods.
A. O.
A great stop for a delicious coffee with amazing service! Great selection of breakfast/lunch items. Beans are from Allpress and there’s a large selection of milk alternatives (bonsoy and milk lab). Will definitely be back. Thanks Uncle David and Team! 👍🏼
M. T.
Nice, welcoming place with wonderful latte and yummy scrambled eggs. The owners are very friendly. Will definitely come back to try the burgers :)
B. M.
Tried the new Kuching fried chicken. Delicious! The contrast of the chicken, sweet/salty sauce and cold pickle is heaven!
Y. G.
Bumped into this little gem during lunch today, have heard of it but never been. Had the Sarawak laksa and absolutely demolished it, added extra prawns which were fresh and juicy. I'll definitely be coming back to try some of the other goodies on the menu.
S.
Great coffee and the staff are very friendly. A perfect place to try authentic Japanese food. The Pork kastu sandwich and Matcha muffin were delicious.
A. A.
Been visiting this little café for over a month now and it's a true gem I've discovered! I don't drink coffee but my colleagues vouch for it. Most importantly, the homemade baked goods are absolutely delicious! The banana bread is unique and yummy. The chicken rendang is another lunch favourite with all its amazing sides! Not to mention their warm and welcoming service that makes it a great overall experience.
C. C. L.
Service is always personable and very friendly here.
Good selection of Malaysian favourites on top of the usual cafe offering.
C. C.
The Sarawak laksa is so special that is different with I ate laksa before. And the staff is so friendly. But here is is easy to miss when you follow the google map. You have to go into a building to find it.
R. H.
A hidden gem. Lovely owners. Arcade style setup. Malay influence on menu with some nice surprises. Allpress coffee which was great. Well worth a visit if you want a break from the usual cafe circuit. A real treat!
L. O.
Must Visit! Absolutely the best rice breakfast I’ve had while visiting Melbourne. Uncle David is very friendly
J. M.
I love coming here! I’m a coeliac so the gluten free baked treats are an absolute delight and my favourite treat to pick up in the CBD. Coffee is great and always served with a smile by the lovely barista. They’re also great for gluten free lunches - I love the tom yum and the curries. Good vegetarian options. I’ve been stocking up with home delivery orders during lockdown so my lunch can be fancier than toasted cheese sandwiches.
Y.
I ordered a large flat white (16oz). The staff, was really friendly and nice. The flat white was a little bit watery and I enjoyed :)
E. M.
Have yet to try the food but the coffee (Allpress) tastes great. What really impressed me though was their warm and welcoming service.
They really make an effort with their customers and it makes a huge difference.
Will no doubt become my new local!

In the midst of concrete skyscrapers in CBD Melb, Uncle David warms my heart with kindness. It's a place that makes me want to visit every morning just to see those beautiful faces. that connection with ppl whom we exchange goods, services, experiences with, in our everyday life nourish us, connects our souls, despite the isolation & distance.
It's a cute little cafe unique juxtaposition of S.E. Asian & Melb cafe and it's delicious made with love & care.
What a treasure and please support them <3
S. W.
The coffee, the service and the food are always ace. Great flavours in the burrito, which is hard to find on this side of the world 😇 big plus is they never close during lockdowns and keep to their opening hours. Good job team :)
P. L.
Absolutely in love with this place. It may not be easy to spot when you’re walking outside but as you enter the Exchange Tower building you’ll be able to see it towards the end. I ordered their Sarawak laksa and it was sooo delicious! Will definitely return to try the kolo mee and other rice dishes as well.
D.
Sensational coffee, wonderful staff, fresh pastries. Will visit again when in Melbourne.
N. G.
The best cafe in the Melbourne CBD. They have the most amazing All Press coffee and the girls behind the machine make a mean Chai. If you are after lunch try the Kolo Mee. It's my favourite Asian lunch treat.
K. K.
Found this little cafe at The Exchange. Authentic home cook food at reasonable price.
We had beef rendang, chicken curry and sweet and sour pork. The food were well presented and taste Super! My Husband loves the coffee- he had 2 cups! Friendly service.
J. M.
A new look and owner to a old spot. Great coffee, food fresh and full of flavour and great friendly staff. The beef rendang is great for lunch full of flavour. Coffee not too hot or cold and discount for using reusable cup. Will be back!
F. M.
Reiterating what others have said, yes; hidden gem indeed!
Lovely customer service and REALLY good food, tried the Sarawak Laksa and the beef Rendang both amazing. A great home-cooked-food taste.
So glad I found this place.

This place is fantastic.
I've been here twice so far,
The first time I came with a friend and ordered the Satay Beef Meatballs, the perfect size for lunch with rice and some cucumbers, the flavour and quality was impressive especially considering the $8.00 it they ask for the dish.
The lovely owners (who I can only assume is Uncle David himself, and his wife) approached us and asked for our feedback, and I cheekily mentioned that it wouldve been perfect with a fried egg on top.
The following week, my friend and I returned to be greeted warmly by the owners, I decided the order the same Satay Beef Meatballs for lunch and during my wait for the preparation of my meal they came out and gave us both a sample of their Beef Rendang Curry along with a small serve of rice. It was delicious and the beef was very soft and tasty.
If that wasnt surprising enough, when my actual dish was ready Uncle David approached us with a smile on his face and said "I remember you guys from last time, you asked for the egg".
And just like I had remarked in the previous week there were perfectly complimentary fried eggs on our orders. Amazing.
It really did make the dish perfect too, and again for $8.00 it's hard to beat for a wholesome lunch.
It's only a small place hidden through an interior walkway, but the owners are genuinely kind and sincere people. You even pay for the bill after the meal which is a nice touch, it feels like your visiting family when you come to eat here.
I'll definitely return to try out the other dishes in the future, but the Satay Beef Meatballs will always have a soft spot in my heart. Thanks Uncle David, your little cafe is awesome.
A. T.
Very friendly service. Had the chicken kara age lunch special. Generous servings. Fresh and tasty, quick as well

Best coffee I've been able to find around the city in a while! The lovely family that run this place sure knows what they're doing. Seriously worth a visit!
D. K.
Little cafe with a touch of Uncle David’s friendliness that offers delectable lunch, coffee and macaroons. The beef rendang is flavoursome and a must try. Coffee was very nice and well made. Highly recommended and good job👍 👏

There are places where you can instantly recognise that the staff care about their product. Uncle David's is one of those places. From every ingredient in every meal it is clear the staff care about the quality of what they are serving. The best ingredients are used in all cases, and every order is made with the same high level of care and love. Their menu isn't huge, but it doesn't need to be. There is plenty of variation and a tonne of quality. The inclusion of every ingredient is selected carefully to give a dish its best flavour.
The staff are incredibly friendly and genuinely care about your experience. The people that own the shop run the shop, and it shows.
If you are anywhere nearby, please check it out. Try the Kolo Mee.

Very nice Japanese cafe right in the heart of Melbourne. It is run by a Japanese owner and Japanese staff. Highly recommended if you want to eat authentic Japanese cuisine. The coffee is also delicious. They use St Ali specialy coffee. Arigato!
