Comments of Federal Doma Cafe
M. H.
The expectation when visiting an unknown restaurant/Cafe will always be stuck in the middle ground. Everything from the front of house to the chefs in the back. Nothing on any given day will be the same.
Doma was under no other circumstance. The Cafe was recommended from a close friend and so I had to try it out.
I must say, from the absolute beginning to the very end, was nothing short of an amazing morning. The front of house where nice, polite and very friendly and the food that came after was incredible. The flavours, the textures, the sauce & the coffee. All of it, completely and utterly beyond any experience that I've had for quite a while.
Highly recommended. Will be back in a couple of weeks.
Thank you for making my partner and my morning a great one.

Great cafe in a beautiful part of the world 🌿.
Love the Japanese influence of this cafe and had one of the best iced matchas ever here. The matcha is whisked properly and is very high quality, making a heavenly drink 💛.
I also loved the matcha panna cotta 💛.
We will definitely be making this our staple morning spot when in the hinterland area 💛.
E. P.
The road going out to federal is not great but WORTH it to come here. Big range of drinks and food choices to suit V and GF too. Pictured is the seared salmon sashimi salad - delicious and matcha pannacotta - equally delicious!
A. R.
I would like to say that this cafe is a hidden gem, but it is not, it is very popular and busy.
The savoury food is very much Japanese style or heavily influenced by Japanese cuisine, while the sweets are very much cafe classics.
The food is fresh, at one point we saw the chef pop out to grab some more herbs from their garden.
Don’t expect a $2 sushi train roll here, they are quality and will set you back $5-6, but they were worth every cent.

Such a treat having Doma in your local village. Our guests staying
@kietaholidayhouse_byronbay are always blown away at the amazing food we have on our doorstep.
A. N.
Adorable little cafe that is well worth the drive. The menu is Japanese influenced so we had a very interesting bacon and egg roll. We also had the most amazing freshly baked brie and bacon twist thing (can't remember what it was called.) All the baked goods looked amazing, it was hard to pick! The line doesn't move very quickly there so make sure you have time to spare when stopping in.
A. L.
Several people recommended Doma during our holiday in Byron, so we drove to Federal on our last day to check it out. It didn’t disappoint!!
Highly recommend you drive up for lunch. We initially arrived for brekkie, but preferred the look of the lunch menu so waited half hour to come back. Lots of great options, but couldn’t resist the Panko chicken breast burger, which was divine and so fresh!! Perfect portion of chips to go with it. Edamame was also freshly cooked and tasty.
Note that it does get busy so be prepared to wait for a table and your food. There’s a good amount of space outside for couples or groups, and you place your order at the counter.
I would definitely go back to try more of the menu.

Well worth stopping in for lunch if you're in the Byron hinterlands (this Japanese inspired cafe is on the way to Minyon Falls). The salads were fantastic - fresh prawns with loads of flavour. Great coffee as well. There's lovely outdoor seating next to a herb garden. This was one of our favourite gems of the Byron area.
D. S.
Excellent food in a charming little town. The menu has plenty of creative dishes like the Mr. Korokke hand roll (which is awesome!) and the service is great. If you're stating in Byron (or near enough by), it's well worth your time to visit Federal for lunch at this gem of a cafe.
C. T.
Great little find with some seriously good eats. The Cauliflower Karage with vermicelli had a distinct refreshing flavour and the Chicken burger was ace. Both must tries.
B. P.
WOW! The food at Doma is amazing. Kick back in an idyllic garden setting, relax and wait for what might me some of Australia’s best Japanese food. Lunchboxes to go for $18 are well worth the visit and the plated food is top notch. The salmon with Japanese style hash browns with sourdough is worth the drive alone. Coffee is great. Just an all round wonderful experience.
I. T.
This is one of our favourite country cafes. Always excellent food & coffee & friendly service. Aus & Japanese fusion. Recently renovated to make outdoor area more user friendly. Nice hinterland drive & not far from fab lookout over to Byron & coast.
Y. H.
Phenomenal. World class cafe operated by Japanese workers,
R. H.
Always a great lunch at Doma, we had tempura prawns, silken tofu, sashimi salad and chicken katsu.. enjoyed it all. If you are driving in the hinterland Doma is a great place for lunch and coffee
A. H.
We discovered this gem on our trip to Byron by accident and we are so glad we did!!! We weren't sure what to expect but it overexceeded all standards of any Japanese cafe we have been to! Portion size was so generous, and we thought to order an extra hand roll just in case. I can't say enough how amazing this place is! We ordered a karaage salad and wagyu bowl for our main dishes and wow both were so flavoursome. We are huge fans of Japanese food so to find this amazing cafe hidden from the main parts of Byron was such a surprise, but every aspect of this place was outstanding. Cute outdoor spot, good menu options for food and drinks and staff were lovely. Highly highly recommend doing yourself a favour and visiting this perfect cafe! Next time we come back to Byron we will be back for sure!
J. C.
Wow, Federal Doma Cafe is phenomenal and really lives up to its reputation. The sushi, sashimi, and other fish are incredibly fresh and flavorful with interest flavors. Had been seeing salmon sashimi paired with pesto a bit more lately, but this was the best application of it I’ve had so far. Interesting to think that we were up on a mountain eating some of the best sushi we’ve ever had. Maybe it was psychological because we loved the place itself: it was cosy and quaint as well as hip and modern and had a very cool, genuine Japanese vibe. We really felt like we were back in Tokyo. The burger and fries were also excellent, cooked perfectly and so satisfying.
L. H.
We recently dined here for lunch and after reading reviews we did expect to wait a while for a table. It was midday Tuesday and we were pleasantly surprised with a 10minute wait to order and found a seat easily. Shared the miso pork belly, seared salmon and a few salmon nori rolls. The pork melted in your mouth and the salad was light and fresh. Could not fault this place and the new deck allows for greater seating. I also love that they encourage you to buy from the grog shop next door (they don't sell alcohol) and allow it to be brought in thereby promoting the sharing economy of Federal. 10/10!
R. O.
Love the food and coffee here. The doma breakfast is great and the French toast is the best I've ever had. Nice garden to relax with kids or dogs.
R. C.
Perhaps the best food of Japanese. Possibly worth the long drive. Very friendly service. Aesthetically pleasing hand washing basins.
G. C.
A Surprise hidden away in the hills in Federal NSW. A pleasant drive through the green countryside from the Gold Coast (1.5 hours from north GC) Doma Cafe provides a great setting for some Japanese infusion delight. All tables are outside , most with shade . Very rustic country setting but food is more upmarket - slightly more expensive side .
We had Tempura prawn salad and Chicken Karage salad . Both were delicious . We also had Iced cold infusion Coffee with coconut milk - Very tasty . Total price $63 for the 2 of us.
Service was very efficient considering there was a constant turnover of patrons looking for tables.
Thoroughly recommend for a morning drive and lunch . If coming from GC during summer don’t forget the daylight saving time difference as they close at 2.30pm NSW time.
A. B.
The food is delicious, the coffee is one of the best you’ll get for quite a distance, and the staff are all lovely. It’s also real cute. 11/10 would recommend
A. N.
What a hidden gem! Amazing spot. Go here if you can, it’s totally worth the stop if you’re on your way to Minyon Falls lookout. Lunch service usually starts at noon so we got a coffee while we waited for food. Amazingly fresh dishes. Loved this place.
D. N.
Doma was recommended to us as an above average Japanese inspired cafe with outdoor seating that is dog friendly. It definately didn't disappoint.
We had the chicken katsu burger and a smokey grilled salmon special. Both were very good and were a reasonable value proposition.
I see some mixed reviews from people who only ordered a coffee and a sushi roll. With respect to them, if all you order is a sushi roll, not even breakfast or lunch which their menu focuses around it is a bit disingenuous to give a 1 star rating.
I would definitely come back.
B. B.
Yummy fresh Japanese inspired food. Had to wait a while for our meals and it was a little disorganised but a cute spot to enjoy lunch
D. B.
Absolutely love this place! While in Byron I’ve been driving here everyday. Miso soup is a must, good GF options and the best sushi. The owner came out and warned us about the parking rangers, who were waiting around like vultures for the time to turn 2:30pm. The bus stop activates.
M. P.
Was looking for food after visiting the crystal castle. Came across this little Cafe. Really suprised by the quality of food. Absolutely amazing. Highly recommended
A. B.
Seriously tasty food. Best sushi rolls I've had and do a great bacon and egg roll for breakfast too
A. E.
Always a 10/10 meal. Renovation has much more setting options but I do miss the farm vibe. However nothing could stop me coming back every time I’m in the area.
P. K.
Relaxed fusion Japanese coffee place . Lots of table outside , excellent sushi but small portions! No alcohol licence but you can buy a beer next door !
B. f.
It simple the best food. If your like Japanese inspired western food this is it. You can order from the menu or chose a freshly prepared lunch box style sushi. Coffee the best in Federal and the vibes are high.
K. K.
Stopped here for lunch as we were driving through the hinterland and were seriously impressed. I had at least a dozen people recommend this place to me, so was expecting a lot and they delivered! The hand rolls were fresh and tasty, and the seared salmon dish was served with a creative twist on basil pesto, along with a fresh salad from their garden. Love the picnic tables outside. A great spot for big groups, kids or to take your pooch along. Now to come back for breakfast!
M. F.
Delicious food and drinks.
We visited Byron during the wet season flooding, and the staff were super friendly and accommodating for our large group and getting us under cover.
J. O.
Super cute and rustic cafe offering yummy Japanese fusion food. Chooks roaming free and lovely outdoor area to relax in.
A. M.
I’ve made a habit of visiting this quirky Japanese-run cafe on every occasion – to Byron. The menu is always outstanding and the quality is excellent. Don’t come here in a rush because it’s too good a spot to hastily depart and food of this level takes time to prepare.
D. B.
Some dishes here are so delicious with such interesting and tangy flavours I feel like my tongue is going to have a spasm. Quality of ingredients is excellent. My companion described the place and food as magical and that's spot on. The chef is an artist. It's VERY rare to get this level of deliciousness at this price. And all the staff are efficient and polite.
D. R.
Great food & location...food was enjoyable with elements of Japanese fusion. Good coffee as well...
O. M.
Yummy Japanese food, great location, lovely friendly staff. Garden and take aways... the french toast was very undersold check it out it was EPIC. So fresh.
N. S.
Yummo! I had heard several people over the years raving about this cafe serving great Japanese food tucked away off the beaten track somewhere near Mullumbimby NSW. It took me a while to find out what it was actually called and where it was and even longer for me to actually get here but it was worth the wait!!
I turned up on a lazy Sunday arvo with guitarist strumming away in the garden seating area. Japanese’s girls calling out peoples names to get their coffee orders. I had a beautiful salmon sashimi salad followed by excellent espresso coffee that was made with love and attention.
I’ll be back and I’ll bring a heap of others with me!
M. W.
Nestled in the Hinterlands about 40 minutes from Byron’s coastal strip is Doma Cafe – a quaint Japanese cafe which seems to be a bit of a hidden treasure for locals. Easily the best Japanese I’ve had since my visit to Tokyo. A must try: crunchy tuna sushi rolls!
D. M.
Pleasant atmosphere, nice to find such cool little Cafe in the middle of nowhere. Japanese food done with an Australian twist. Chicken Katsu burger was great and the eggplant dish was amazing and filling.
J. W. K.
Great flavours and a cool place to hang out.
T. T.
Very popular, delicious light Japanese inspired fusion. Great friendly staff. Toilets could be better positioned.. a little close to eating area.
P. C.
Love the burgers.
Was prepared for a wait but we shared a table with another couple.
Meals camr quickly.
F. H.
Delicious breakfast. Well priced. The only issue was the time it took between ordering and paying, and food arriving. Seriously long time, though service was friendly. Luckily I was with someone who had been before and knew to order a sushi roll to tide over the hunger pangs. Once the food arrived it was absolutely delicious.
S. P.
It was great mood and nice food. All the ingredients were fresh. It is a bit far from town. But i felt really relax. Even price was a bit expensive though.
V. S.
Great customer service. Very relaxed feel and welcoming. The coffee was delicious and so was the food.
L. C.
Great fusion of Australian and Japanese food. Tastes great. Always busy. Not enough seats. It's so popular it needs seating expansion to fit everyone in. Food was still served in a prompt manner. Great customer service.
p. f.
Long wait for the food...but it is definitely worth the wait! The food is sooo delicious 🤩
T. P.
Simply put, the food here is just fantastic. It has an uncomplicated fresh feel to it, and the chef here clearly knows what he/she is doing. Some of the best japanese food I've tasted in Australia, recommend the seared salmon salad and the tempura prawn bowl. Also some fantastic western style desserts, especially the cheese cake. The staff are friendly. All we could do was take away, because the back of the place, where you can eat sitting down, was already full. The only thing it needed to give it five stars was faster service. Still waited 25 minutes for our food. But then again, if that's the time you need to make it taste so good, maybe it's justified...
S. M.
beautiful cafe, great service, incredible food. coffee was really nice and the food is next level. loved the eggplant dish, and all the sushi and dessert was amazing! will be back. thank you!
L. M.
Quirky cafe in a small town. The food was excellent. Great choices and variety as they have Japanese food as well. We all had the haloumi burger it was delicious And their coffee is great too. We sat in the garden out the back, great atmosphere. A great place to stop and refuel
A. L.
Lovely relaxing day trip to Federal Doma Cafe. Surprisingly yummy Japanese food. Relaxed atmosphere
S.
Beautiful place, yummy food, and a nice atmosphere. It's on the pricier side of things but I nice little pilgrimage if you're looking for a bit of a drive through gorgeous country side.
E. V.
Surprisingly good Japanese cafe in the Byron Hinterland. Farm to table soul food.
S. L. Q.
A real find in Federal just out of Byron. Great breaky and Japanese. Totally worth the trip
N. G.
Incredibly yummy cafe! Great coffee and awesome fusion styled Japanese food.

What a great place in the middle of Nowhere.
Japanese food with a touch of Aussie style Burgers. A must destination if your close by.

Oishi...ichiban...thoughts of blue zone longevity should one eat this type of healthy food often...will boomerang to Federal for more of this fine food - hai!
J. B.
Rode a couple of hours so that I could visit. Was a bit late for breakfast, but lunch was awesome
G. C.
What a nice surprise in a very unassuming spot. Sushi was some of the best I’ve had! Highly recommend.
S. E.
Lovely cafe. Beautiful spot, good food and friendly staff. Absolutely perfect! Especially loved the free range chickens running around the garden ready to be chased by kids or sneakily trying to steal a bite of food.
B. H.
Awesome food, lovely staff, just beautiful.
R. G.
Like it. Great village, worth the scenic drive
M. T.
Really good food, but it's expensive for takeout and the portions are small. So if you're hungry or a big eater like me, it's not value for money.
Currently you have to eat across the road in the park due to COVID. Although other places seem to manage to provide seating and COVID cleaning. So maybe based on the current experience I wouldn't come back.
Once they open up table service, it might be a better experience.
D. G.

Well worth the drive - even the chickens are friendly and welcoming

Beautiful as always
Friendly staff and lovely food
R. P.
Took us two years to get here but worth the wait, we manage to visit on our second trip to Byron from Sydney. Enjoyed lunch on a warm Spring afternoon, basic alfresco sitting area with plenty of tables. I had the chicken burger with a Japanese twist and it was one of the best chicken burgers I've enjoyed in a long time. Have heard great things about the sushi....may ma on our next trip.
S. M.
Amazing cafe in an isolated village. The people are lovely and the food is amazing!
I. M.
Great mix of japanese and western food, good relaxing atmosphere with helpful and friendly staff, the only thing I would change is the seating policy's. Will definitely come back here.
O. V.
Love their cheesecakes. Specially matcha one.
D. S.
Amazing! The service is impeccable and the food is beyond delicious. I had the Tempura vege bowl and tempura veg and avo roll and it was the best roll I've ever eaten. 100% will be back.
J. K.
This place is popular for good reason. Food, music and a rustic outdoor setting. Seating is on long tables with wooden benches outdoors so good weather is a must. Music on weekends. Great burgers and assorted Japanese inspired items. Can be crowded however so best to arrive early.
E.
Teriyaki chicken and green tea pannacotta were to die for. Better Japanese food than any place I've been to in Sydney. Will recommend to all my friends.
n. p.
The following review is a little dated (I originally reviewed them on TripAdvisor)) however I hope it's still helpful.
Went for breakfast. The drive alone was worth it - absolutely beautiful. It took a little while for the food to come out (which is apparently normal), but you wouldn't be here if you were in a rush. But once that food comes - wow it's worth the wait! Will definitely be back.
R. K.
It was very busy so a long wait but good food once it came. Takeaway cardboard containers and outdoor seating only at the moment due to virus restrictions. We headed across the road to the park to eat and the kids could play.
C. C.
Outstanding food in this cute little cafe in a beautiful little town. Food has the local attitude to healthy and clean foods. Coffee was great and service was outstanding. If weather is wet you might need to find other choices as nearly all seating is of an out door variety.
s. h.
Fabulous, fresh, authentic and reasonably priced.
M. V.
What a little gem!! So worth the drive if you are around Byron Bay area! The meals are excellent (service is a little slow though). Really good vibe and nice coffee too! Make sure you try this cafe!!
A. S.
This place has an incredible reputation already and it is easy to see why. The food was absolutely delectable, served outside. We had a selection from their menu, the teriyaki chicken, salmon salad, aubergine salad, and prawn salad, as well as a couple of sushi rolls. All were delicious and beautifully presented.
R. V.
Long queue because instead of serving, the girl here is too busy telling her friends about what kind of coconut oil she uses on her new tattoos. Customers are walking away including us. Find another career path.
Food is good if you can get it.
J. M.
Stopped by after a hike in the region. Was not expecting to find a Japanese Cafe in these parts and so was keen to try it. The menu was good and covered off on snacks and mains. We chose to get four of the cone rolls of four various flavours and a garden salad as a side. The freshness of the salad and rolls was immediately evident. Each dish/item was flavourful and moorish. The dressing on the salad was light, but the flavour was strong. This is a must visit Cafe in this region! Will definitely stop past when next in this area.
C.
This is a perfect place for a breakfast or lunch stop. Really relaxed and chill atmosphere with outdoor seating a plenty. A cool mix of Japanese and western style cafe food on the menu and really nice coffee.
There is parking right outside the door as well as a general store for all your snacking needs.
R. J.
Love that place. The setting is awesome, really good vibe, on the weekend you have live folk music. Very relaxing, dog friendly. People are nice and smiling. But most of all the food is amazing. try the haloumi burger with the Japanese croquette, it's to die for. (Local gem)
N. B.
Very nice sushi in a surprising location
c. l.
Ate here in early November and it was great. A successful cafe in the middle of nowhere. I practised my Japanese with some of the staff and had a great lunch and coffee. Perfect place to stop en route to the nearby water fall or even make a special trip of it from Byron Bay. Great Place !
J. k.
Fabulous former good value loved it will be back
T. K.
Cute little place in the hinterland, little mix up with my order but all good. I think the gentlemen sitting next to the coffee bar was a bit eager and drank my coffee! However, they proceeded to fix it up straight away. Would be nice to have some diary free cakes. Small toilet outside was mmm interesting...sorry would of been four stars but the toilet was a let down.
T. P.
Absolutely fantastic food. Great vibe outdoors, often with live guitar music and some singing. Friendly staff and truly sensational flavours. Doma is a wee gem worth visiting again and again. I thoroughly recommend it.
M. M.
Great food and service in an incredibly beautiful location.
I had the gluten free roasted eggplant and it was amazing. Totally recommende it.
S. C.
Really amazing food with beautiful presentation! The chicken karaage I had was so flavourful ... Love the live music as well! Would definitely recommend and come again!
H. S.
We visit Doma pretty much every weekend. To not have to leave the hills to get a top quality coffee and amazing food is great. The Sushi bar is great if you need something quick or for later and brown rice Sushi is a winner for me. Doma is always busy for good reason!
N. B.
Unexpectedly interesting sushi. ... in lunch boxes! They are actually paper plastic boxes with the sushi inside... variety is limited..only 5 or 6 and they are all cooked (did not find raw fish). Strange for a restaurant 30 km from the sea.
Have many other food types than Japanese... strange combinations.
If you are hungry and on the way to the falls.
J. F.
Best french toast i ever had! (with bacon highly recommended) you need a second person to finish your meal.
The beef salad and sushi was amazing too. The service is a bit slow but i would wait hours for such a great meal. I would come back for sure!
B. B.
I love this place, and would eat here every day if I lived nearby! The food is so fresh, creative and made with attention. The delicate hand rolls, to the incredible hot dishes, the teriyaki chicken was so tasty but not overpowering with flavour. YUM!!
K. B. C.
Consistently the best food and experience, great service and has improved now there is plenty of staff from them recently growing fast popularity. Anything from gourmet authentic Japanese to the greatest burger sand best hot chips you will ever try. large size meals for the great price too.
G. L.
Great sushi and Japanese salads. Always worth the drive. You can sit at a cafe table or across the road in the park.
M. M. A.
I had the doma breakfast. It was delicious. The dining area itself is also very beautiful and tranquil.
But there was a very long wait on my food, the people I was eating with had all finished their meals by the time mine arrived, also the tree we were sitting under kept dropping flowers in my food.
There's a dog in the house nearby that barked non stop while we were there, it made trying to relax very difficult.
There were also no sugar free softdrinks available, which was disappointing.
R. M.
Seriously? What the hell is a place this good doing out here in the middle of nowhere?! Amazing contemporary Japanese fusion at cafe prices. This place is a regular for us and drags us out of Byron into the hills regularly. Strongly recommend Sushi of the day and the prawn lentil salad. If you don't feel like Japanese then go the steak sandwich. Made so good only the way Japanese chefs can.
L. W.
Fantastic food but be prepared to wait an hour for lunch. Kitchen also closes at 2.30pm. Nice garden to chill in while you wait.
d. l.
Wow. Well worth the scenic drive out from Murwillumbah. Fresh and delicious. Lovely setting. Our kingfish sushi and cone shape karaage chicken rolls were great and other plates going past looked great and generous. Plate envy. Nice emporium shop to also visit in Federal.
V. T.
Café has a great atmosphere and is family friendly. They offer a nice selection of breakfast & lunch options on the main menu, as well as sushi rolls & cakes. Coffee is good.
e. S.
Great, fresh Japanese and excellent coffee. We had Saturday lunch, was glad for a local tip off to arrive early to beat the noon time rush. Relaxed atmosphere with live music. BYO
A. G.
Surprisingly good Japanese food in the middle of nowhere
G. S.
Really nice casual place for some great, fresh sushi and other Japanese food in the last place you'd expect it!! The staff are friendly, the hosomaki, nigiri and inari are made to order, plus they make a top notch cafe latte! Definitely recommend if you're in the area.
a. w. a. d.
Just amazing. Food incredible and atmosphere was brilliant!
M. B. (. &. T.
One of my top five restaurants of all time. All the sushi is amazing. As much pickled ginger as you can eat. Awesome place for kids to play and wander in. And live music periodically.
A. T.
This is one of my favorite places. The food is amazing all of it. Sunday they often have some music. Grab a tabel outside in the sun and enjoy the sushi or one of the salads even a burger you will not be disappointed.
J. A.
Well worth the (beautiful) drive out to Federal. Their sushi and maki rolls are so fresh and delicious. Could have seconds, or thirds!
S. D.
Went for the food, stayed for the duck
10/10
P. G.
Lovely place in a little town with great food
R. S.
Great food, busy / friendly atmosphere - good coffee too
P. W.
A real treasure in the hinterland. Very good food options with Japanese twist
S. W.
Great Japanese fusion food in the hinterland. Can get very busy so be prepared to wait.
The toilet probably not to the liking of those fussy. Mobile phone reception very poor if you are relying on Google Maps to find it (like we did).
Definitely worth a visit.
D. B.
Great great food and atmosphere.
Fusion of western trendy cafe food with modern Japanese food ideas.
Great local live music made an enjoyable lunch.
Scenic drive through the hills behind Byron Bay.
M. C.
Very nice food , not the cheapest food place , but worth a look and a bite
G. G.
Amazing cafe food with a slight Japanese twist. Very nice indeed. We have been back a few times now and are looking forward to the next visit.
M. R.
We visited with the intention of dining in, but the incredible popularity meant a wait of 20-30mins to secure a table (first in best dressed) so we grabbed some pre-made sushi. The sushi was not refrigerated, it’s the first time in my life I prayed before eating, I prayed that my room temperature sushi was not begot by deadly microbes.
Whether by divine intervention, good luck or these Sushi chefs have found a new way of pasteurising sushi I will never know, but I didn’t get sick and i wish I bought more.
J. K.
Incredible! In such a gorgeous part of the Byron hinterland, the service was exceptional and the food was also. The very best Sushi! Could not recommend this more! :)

Really nothing special about this place. The food is average at best, the coffee is simply not good. Specially not compared to the standards of other places within 30kms range.
All in all, this definitely doesn't worth a detour. Oh, almost forgot to mention that it is expensive.
V. P.
What a lovely cafe, to eat on a sunny Saturday afternoon sitting in the outdoor garden. Great food, service and coffee. Bottle shop next door to pick up bottle of wine or a beer, very handy. We will return.
A. M.
Delicious food and great atmosphere. We are so happy that we listened to recommendations and tried Doma.
A. O.
Both this and the restaurant in Bellingen are top shelf.
Would 100% consider stopping in if you're driving past, or even making a day of it.
The roads in and out are quite a nice drive!
K. P.
Really good Japanese food, well worth the drive. Fresh and delicious. The dengaku eggplant is incredible, as is the vegetarian roll. Relaxed informal vibe
P. M.
Wow! What wonderful food in a lovely outdoor setting. The food and flavours are fresh and scrumptious. If in Melbourne/St Kilda this would be our 'go to' cafe for family and friends.
S.
Bestest and yummiest food around. But the their coffees are Friggin Absolutely DE-LICIOUS!
I'm usually a 1 latte kinda person... I had 3 and I had to hold back not to have a 4th.
BESTEST COFFEE IN THE WHOLE UNIVERSE 🌌
B. W.
Highly recommended! Amazing food! Lovely location, set amidst the Byron Bay hinterland in peaceful nature, close to walks, hikes, and other natural beauty.
G. L.
The best Japanese restaurant in northern NSW. Always busy and long queue. Better to go before 12pm.
R. F.
Great food (had a super delicious salmon salad), great coffee and a nice outdoor vibe. Definitely stop by for a feed and a brew!
M. C.
Best place to stop by for brunch on the way to the mountains. Cozy atmosphere, quick and efficient staff. Delicious food!
J. C.
It's one of my favourite restaurants in Byron Shire. Having grown up in Byron Bay I regularly take friends who don't live in the area up for a swim in the creek and lunch here. You come back feeling a million dollars.
G. S.
Amazing food and wonderful vibes
J. L.
Coffee and cheesecake was ok but took nearly 15 minutes to make an iced coffee and get a slice of cheesecake. Wouldn't bother coming back.
B. H.
Live music Sundays and a great atmosphere. watch the local free range chickens wandering around the open outdoor aeea. Be sure to get there before the midday rush. Oh and the food is amazing!
d.
Amazing coffee and Asian style food (amazing Japanese hash browns), I love the little food garden that surrounds the seating area.
M. S.
Awesome place, would be a perfect beer garten.
For somewhere between nowhere it has outstanding good food. The preparation of the dishes shows their deditcation and you can taste the passion...
H. D.
I cannot get enough of Federal Doma! The eggplant salad thingy is my favourite. Last time I visited was a Sunday afternoon - a beautiful band were playing and the atmos was spot on. Thank you Federal Doma Café for doing what you do 💖
B. H.
Delicious food just bit expensive
J. G.
Most memorable place on my journey through Australia. What a location. What a menu. Coffee and great sushi, friendly people, and plenty of outdoor seating.
B. A.
Love this place. Out of the way and a bit of a drive but its worth making a morning out of it. Delicious food and coffee. We took a coffee judge with us and she loved it to.
J. C.
I give this 4 stars purely just for how cool it is to have this random Japanese cafe in Federal, staff are brilliant, food was fantastic vibe was cool. Would def go back for the Katsu Burger.
M. R.
Absolutely amazing place. Food stunning. Vibe stunning. Highly recommended for anyone who values a country drive, music and solid food.
M. M.
Great coffee and food with friendly staff. 20 minutes waiting in line to order seems to be the norm but you get to meet other friendly diners.
J. F.
Interesting and tasty food, but the service is slow and inconsistent. I was overcharged, and several of my friends had their orders messed up. But the food was tasty so I'd go back for another try.
M. H.
Worth the drive every time I come here. Fantastic food. Lovely outdoor seating vibe.
S. N.
BEST FOOD EVER, if you want fresh lovely food this is your place!!! Don't let the amount of people change your mind it's worth the wait, total foodgasim!!!! I always call in here when im back at my parents house ALWAYS! :) :D

M. C.
Great little spot with fresh tasty food. Nice to get some fresh air out of the busy Byron bay.
a. k.
A great Japanese Cafe tucked away in federal NSW, kind of a bazzar spot but we'll worth the drive. Food was top notch and their small deserts were something to go back for
V.
Doma Cafe is without a doubt my favourite Sushi place this side of the Northern Rivers. Tucked away quietly in the cute little town of Federal, just 25 mins inland from Byron Bay, it is also easily accessible via Mullumbimby, Bangalow, Lismore etc. I love everything that is on offer here, your taste buds really go on a culinary journey from burgers, tasty chips and scrumptious salads to my favourite the Sushi, especially the Salmon stick. They also make great coffee! I highly recommend this friendly and accommodating venue as you won't be disappointed, all the staff are so lovely, humbly and busily making everything fresh from scratch, which means your meals can take a little while depending on what you order however it is worth the wait!
From local musicians on the weekends, dogs and children all blending together in a beautiful, cruisy atmosphere of harmony and chillaxation. It's also nice to bring your own blanket to sit on as seating can be limited due to it's popularity however it's also nice to share a table with friendly strangers, who knows you may even make a friend or two. They are open Mon-Fri 7:30am - 2:30pm, Sat-Sun 7:30am - 3pm.
D. W.
Well worth the drive - even the chickens are friendly and welcoming
C. N.

M. S.
Modern Japanese- this is one special place that always improves on itself. Order the special and never go to be in a hurry- this is the perfect go slow location. Always a special occasion to lunch here.
C. N.
All 17 of us loved the food. Amazing food - salad, seafood n bugers are cooked to perfection. Thank you!
L. D.
The best Katsu burgers!
B.
Bit over rated, we went there for breakfast on a Saturday spent too much money for too little food. Gave them a 3 star but it honestly had nothing going for it.
T. q.
Beautiful, wholesome food in a quaint location. Would give it 4.5 stars if google would let me. Points deducted for shitkids and longish wait. Highly recommended.
V. H.
Great little place for a healthy lunch and a good coffee. Staff are wonderful too
L. L.
Doma was a great place to eat & I just love the edible garden. We were happy to have ventured to Doma, will try again
c. _.
It's hard to find asian restaurant around here, check this place out when you crave some sushi and of course some nice cafe food you would normally expect!
A.
Amazing meals but can be a slow wait. Also if you're with a group expect to receive all your meals at different times.
K. D.
Yummy!!!! The food and atmosphere there was incredible. Believe me when I say the crowd there is eclectic...it's definitely not just a hipster crowd.
D. P.
