Went for a trip up bush and was fanging a feed the next morning, and this place more than delivers on that! Beautiful coffee, delicious food, great prices, and lovely service. Wrap all of that up in a beautiful bushland setting, add a hefty dose of nostalgia, and you've come across a true winner!

Was just going to grab and go, but was taken in by the breaky menu. Meal was beautifully presented and the coffee was as good as it always is. Spotlessly clean. Staff are a delight and nothing is too much trouble. Why not try it out yourself...

Good, simple feed. Nestled in a nice little secluded area with a good view of some of the elevated areas. Personally, found the staff great and the food to my liking but each to their own. Especially during Covid, would happily visit again if it means keeping our local businesses afloat.

Used to always come here back in the 80's and 90's with my dad, mum, grandpa and grandma, aunty and uncle to get an ice cream. Back then, it was much newer and much more popular, as there was no such thing as the M1 Motorway and the only way to Newcastle was via Cooranbong, then through Freeman's Waterhole and through Barnsley to Newcastle or via Kurri Kurri which was a longer drive. There was the Morisset way and through Toronto and Cardiff to Newcastle, but my family preferred going through Freeman's Waterhole.......simply just to stop here for an ice cream. Back then too, there was also the Mining Museum, that had it's show piece: an old steam train with coal carts and caboose that was on a rail beside the road. That's what always brought us here......because it was pretty much the icon of Freeman's Waterhole.....along with the Oak Milkbar. Shame it still doesn't have that museum! Because it was a fantastic place to visit back in its hay day! Travelling out here is still a fantastic drive....especially if coming from Sydney or the Central Coast. And if you choose to visit Heaton's Lookout at the Watagans, you can get an amazing view of Freeman's Waterhole and the surrounding areas! The Oak Dairy Bar is a great place to stop by if travelling along Freemans Drive!

Great milk and thick shakes. The whole place could do with a bit of a facelift as it's starting to feel tired and run down. It's a true retro experience, because nothing has changed here since about 1983.

Could have been so much better. Floor was filthy, covered in leaves and puddles - So easily cleaned. Made the effort to drive a little bit further to get to the famous Oaks Dairy Bar. So many memories going here as a kid. Hope the floor condition is not an example of the food hygiene. Old and tired.

The kebab shop has excellent food but the otherside has very poor food. Too much sitting in the warmer and they tell you it's 10 minutes old but it tastes like it's 10 days old and it's hit and miss with the staff. Some are very nice and others are very arrogant but the thick shakes are the best anywhere

While in Shellharbour/ Oak field we stopped over for lunch here. We had their charcoal chicken which was good & their plain naan is amazing. They serve halal food here as clearly advertised on their menu too.

It's the old OAK diners in name only. Average food, average prices. Staff vary from pleasant to unpleasant. No Subway even though there are large signs saying there is. Giving the dining tables a clean would be appreciated.

A great iconic stop set amongst the beautiful leafy backdrop of the mountains. A large dining room to eat in, plus outdoor seating available. A moderate menu of all the truck stop favourites with the best milkshakes in the north. An oversized carpark makes pulling in with your trailer or caravan a breeze. Truck facilities are available onsite including showers.The fresh fruit and market stalls in the carpark and the petrol station next door make this a one-stop shop. It's only drawback is that it doesn't have a playground.

Been coming here for 30+ yrs for chocolate malt thickshakes. Legendary! The only negative is that it is on our way to the Hunter Valley. Hard to drink wine after a delicious thickshake, but we get one anyway :-)

I do enjoy going to this place, however, if you're going for milkshakes, you'd be better off getting thickshakes, because their basic milkshakes are disappointing. Great for mental breakdown thickshakes, and they don't judge you on any flavour combinations you ask for.

This is the best place everyone visits when going up and down the freeway. They have the best coffee, pies, cakes, burgers and other menu items. They are also supported by markets on Fridays, Saturday's and Sunday's. Very clean and very modern amenities. It's a terrific pit stop

How anyone could rate the Oak Dairy Bar less than 5 has got me beat, this place has been a local icon for years, 1st as a Truck stop then as the entity it is today, I have been dropping into the Oak for many many years, the staff are always friendly, happy and talkative, mind you the girls don't put up with morons (the same clowns that give less than 5 stars ratings I suppose), the food is always fresh and yummy and prices excellent their crumbed lamb cutlets are the best and biggest you will get anywhere trust me. 10/10 for me

I can remember coming here as a kid over 40 years ago when Oak operated from this site. It looks a bit run down now and has various take away vendors selling food and drinks inside. We still bought some Oak chocolate milk yesterday which is just as delicious as it was when I was a kid.

Can't believe this place is still here, that's amazing!! I used to come here when I was little (30+ yrs ago). I drove past it the other day while I was working and was blown away with nostalgia!! Please ignore people's requests to renovate!! Stay the same!! Just give the place a real good clean. It's great to keep things vintage! I will definitely be stopping for my break on my next drop out this way!! 😍

This is a great place to stop along the M1. If you’re heading North or South you can stop here for a rest. There is subway and Pie Face for food in addition to the oak store. The amenities are not 5 star but they are clean and usable. There is ample parking and fuel options Recommended for a good stop over
