The place has an old pub charm with dark wood paneling and seating that feels rustic and comforting. The staff were kind and attentive with no issues with ordering. I ordered a rump steak, medium rare with mushroom gravy and the salad. The steak was juicy but would be better classified as medium well. It lacked seasoning and lacked charring for that preferred grilled taste. The gravy was a little too thick and tasted store bought. It overpowered the steak but paired a little better with the fries. The salad was fresh and light which didn't need much help with seasoning as the light dressing was subtle and tangy. Overall it is a nice place to sit with friends and have a drink and a bite but I'll be trying something different from their menu next time around

Not bad, we’ve been here a few times and it can be hit and miss. Staff are usually friendly but they’ve had their fair share of mistakes. The food is good value usually and they have pretty good lunch deals. The alcohol is reasonably priced and sitting outside can be nice. It’s a bit dark and loony inside and could use with a spruce up, but if you’re looking for a chill place in the city to hang out then this is a good pick.

Quirky fun place to stop for an after work drink or a drink before a show at the Capitol Theatre. Drinks are cheap and there's always an interesting crowd - definitely check out the Bear Garden.

Popped in here today for lunch. First time visiting for me, certainly wont be the last! What an unexpected and lovely surprise it was. The food was your regular pub offerings and very reasonably priced. I had the chicken ceaser and hubby had the schnitty, both of us really enjoyed it. Really have to have a special mention about the wonderful staff though.....how they manage to keep such good humor and give such a warm welcome in this current climate is a real testament to them. Thanks for a great afternoon Palace Hotel! We will be back!

Food was alright. Very generous when it comes to ordering fish and chips. I think I got 5 pieces of fried fish (I am that type of person who orders fish and chips for the fish, I never eat the chips). Also had their seafood pasta which was quite nice. Music not too loud and delicious cocktails with lots of fresh fruits in them. Only minus is that they don't have a smoking area and the staff was extremely slow to clear our table after food and empty glasses so we ended up with the plates on the table and several empty cocktail glasses for 15 min after finishing eating even tho we asked them to clear up x times. P.S Do not order the Fascinator!!!! Horrible.

As a theatre worker, this pub is closest to the stage door of the Capitol Theatre so you could say I've been in here a few times. There are three distinct areas in the pub - outside, the front old bar and out the back which is also the diner. Good selection of beers and a few ciders on tap, more boutique beers and ciders are bottled. The food is not bad either - typical pub fare. There are lots of Youth Hostels around the area and it's also in China Town, so the the prices of the food need to be a bit cheaper. Maybe as I'm theatrical but I've never understood why they have never themed it as a theatre bar - but that's just me.

Good selection of tap beers, especially James Squires. The food is nice, but heavily over priced for a pub meal. A side of veggies was $6, and was only a couple of chunks of carrot and a piece of broccoli. When veggies don't come with a meal (a man can only stomach so many shoe string chips), I want more for my six bucks dammit!

Went here recently because it was close to the Entertainment Centre before a show and was very pleasantly suprised, there were a group of 12 and everyone loved their meal. A nice variety of beer on tap and plenty of room inside and out for large groups.

Affordable fresh beer in the very central part of Sydney; many good cocktail menus; live music with a little bit harsh tone lol – can visit via the Capitol Square light rail station or walk a couple minutes from Central station. Thai Town and China Town are close by if you wanna experience oriental cultures in a big city.
