Started going here again & pleased we have.. shared a muffin & avo toast this morning which was excellent! The staff are happy to give you two plates which many places do not. The coffee was also excellent & the guy behind the coffee machine is 5 stars.. highly recommend. Also, the customers are very nice too, it’s just a good atmosphere, Dean & Roger 👍🏻

I had a lovely ham & cheese croissant, the croissant was lovely and fresh and the fillings were generous. Unfortunately the coffee was a bit burnt and bitter.
Overall, I enjoyed sitting outside on the benches in the sun, and the staff were friendly. I'd stop back in for another try.
M. B.
Great coffee and the food is top shelf too
J. L.
Local cafe for us. Great coffee! I had the crumpets with bacon and friend had the Big Breakfast. Generous portion, and it was tasty! Great presentation too. Would be back to try the salad bowl
U. K.
Just want to say, best Reuben Sandwich 🥪 in the inner west 😋 👊👌 I'm a chef & I love coming to this place! Definitely recommend it! Great work team!
B. K.
Local gem that has lots of indoor and outdoor space, yet you still better get there early to get a seat. Love the bookcase that leads to a separate part of the cafe! Little Marionette coffee is a favourite of mine and I always smile when I find a place that does it justice. Food is great as well, the ham and cheese croissant was delicious. Can’t wait to come back for more!
B. F.
Great coffee and atmosphere. I ordered the Bowl which was great but was to come with halloumi and didn’t do that was disappointing (hence the 3 stars), especially given the price for relatively small bowl of food

We had a brunch visit to Trafalgar Street Espresso with our friend Pete and Rob which gave us the opportunity to try a range of dishes at Trafalgar Street Espresso in Annandale. A quiet little street houses this corner cafe that has quaint interiors with a cool wall of books, leather couches and plenty of space to sit inside or out.
Chef Felix Stawman’s has put together a tasty snd approachable food menu, that is wholesome, seasonal and served with beautiful presentation on the plate. We know it’s good from word of mouth and evidenced by the popularity of the cafe on our visit.
We try a few of the breakfast and lunch options and there’s also a specials menu on the day.
Breakfast wise, we sampled the morning glory breakfast bowl, which could easily be consumed at lunch as well. The bowl filled with sautéed kale, roasted tomato, broccoli, quinoa, green hummus, house pickles and a poached egg.
From the lunch menu, we share the Haloumi salad, which has small strips of Hapuna mixed with pickled radish, kale, roasted cauliflower, rocket, house made sukkah and topped with a fried egg!
A beautiful dish was presented to us, their “Burnt corn, zucchini & halloumi fritters, which were so flavoursome, soft and a nice char. They were decorated with the pickled radish and soft herb salad, whipped ricotta and a poached egg
They also have rolls and burgers, avocado, fruit bowls, chia bowl and bread by the bread and butter project. The front counter in addition to an outstanding coconut, blueberry and banana muffin!
Coffee by The Little Marionette, a full-bodied blend, and fresh filter roasts with the house blend featuring notes of caramel and chocolate with light citrus fruit tones and balanced acidity.

Easy going corner cafe with good coffee and really tasty and healthy salad bowls, loved the use of pickled vegetables that lightened up the meal
S. O.
Awesome coffee, and the crumpets with mushrooms were fantastic
C. d. F.
I've been meaning to visit here for aaages, finally made it today and completely regret taking so long to check it out. Great food, had the eggplant and avocado toast - massive portion and super tasty. Zesty, tangy and just wonderful. Staff were also lovely and the decor and library room is just a joy to sit in on a Sunday morning. Will be back for sure!
N. V.
superb coffee, great selection of pastries (including gluten-free, if this is important for you), down to earth friendly humans who run the place, an awesome atmosphere, quirky aesthetics, and comfy sofas to sink into! the attached photo shows only one of the rooms, but the whole place is considerably larger. go on, head over, you know you want to! i’ll certainly make it a regular haunt.
B. W.
A popular cafe with an excellent atmosphere. Locals love catching up here. Seating inside and outside. Good coffee. Friendly staff. On-street parking. Bus stops are nearby.
B. L.
There is a beautiful little secret door in this cute cafe. Great coffee and refreshing menu.
Sydney at its best.
K. T.
My favourite coffee in Annandale! Food is always great and they hero some awesome local suppliers all through their menu. Got a cute little lockdown shop going at the moment too, the turmeric pickles are the best! Picked up all the goods for burger night the other day which was a real hit! Love the little library space too (when you can sit there)
A. B. (.
Food was ok, customer service 🤨
N. H.
Great vibe, very friendly staff, loved my cold brew and the veggie bowl incl rocket, Persian feta, currants, sweet potato, roasted vege and an egg. This was just the perfect brekkie to get the last bits of work done I was dreading all week. And did I mention this is one of those places that lets you sit in between books, on window sills or just on rustic chairs outside?
But what about the tunes you may ask? The one and only Lauren Hill 👌
S. K.
Cosy, comfortable, trendy, good coffee and good food, but bad music! Good portion and very reasonably priced.
Not other cafes around the area. So this can be considered a great place if you're in the area.
S. O.
Absolutely amazing!!! The service and food so good plus excellent coffee and a quirky decor. Try the mushroom breakfast :)
A. W.
Friendly staff. Great coffee yummy food. Had the chorizo roll. Will order again.
K.
What an amazing experience! I thought nothing could possibly be as good as the coffee here - I was wrong. The food we ordered just went together so well and was extremely delicious. Plus my pup even got a little treat before leaving! Cannot recommend enough!
I. B.
Sweet corner cafe that I absolutely adore being at, Trafalgar St has top notch food! Extra special love to that chorizo and the beautiful bread too, all over high quality deliciousness. I’ve been a few times now and they’re yet to not impress me. The chai is that perfect mix of sweet but rich in flavour. Always greeted with a smile and the space itself is super lovely. Prior to no-sit ins, Trafalgar would rate highly on my preferred cafe to sit down at. Outside is sunny and warm and inside is spacious and looks lovely. Particularly love the little library nook space. I’ve heard recently they’ve been supplying chilli oils and other delicious grocery goods so I’m definitely looking forward to my next visit and would encourage anyone who lives close to the area to make sure to add Trafalgar St Espresso to your day.
L. A.
This cafe is tucked away in Annandale's back streets. I always stop by for the coffee, definitely stands out from the generic coffee served elsewhere.
When I get the chance I love sitting for lunch on the weekend, such a lovely atmosphere. (also loving the secret bookshelf)
L. C.
Amazingly cute little cafe and the staff are soo nice!! Loved the food and coffee and had plenty on offer for vegetarians and there are non standard breaky offerings which I always appreciate! It’s also got this cute little “hidden” room (it’s not really hidden but you’ll see what I mean! We will definitely be going back here again!
T. W.
Nice atmosphere, food and coffee was good but portion could have been bigger for the price.
C. N.
Love this cafe. Amazing coffee. You can tell they make it with utmost care here. The food is delicious and fresh. Both my mum and I finished our plates clean. The crumpets are the best. Super delicious!!
F. B.
Love this little cafe - have been a fan from the very beginning and they just keep improving and improving. Menu is great, fun twists on the brekky classics but not too over the top. The coffee is consistently reliably great! Would definitely recommend!!
j. h.
Went here for the first time today and was so impressed, the food was absolutely delicious, coffee was great and the staff were lovely. My partner and I had the crumpets with beetroot smoked Trout and mushrooms...amazing! I'm looking forward to trying the congee next time.
A. T.
Firstly, the food and coffee are excellent here. The pastries from black star are really something special.
I went two days in a row this weekend, and found the staff to be a disappointment unfortunately. I figured the first time that maybe it was just an off day, but to return a second time for takeaways today just reinforced the feeling.
I ordered and paid coffee and pastries. Coffee came out, but no pastries. Tried to get staffs attention, but they actively avoid making eye contact. Had to line up again behind 5 other patrons to get served what I had paid for earlier. This took an extra few minutes unnecessarily, while the coffee goes cold.
Staff don't really seem have clear job roles, and are changing tasks apparently randomly, which seems to lead to things getting forgotten.
It's a real shame, because the attitude of the staff feels like they think they are doing you a flavour for every order. It really puts me off, and this used to be a favourite place to come to.
D. M.
Indoor and outdoor seating available including some very comfortable lounges with plenty of books. The congee was the only disappointing dish. Great French toast, fruit bowl and toasted sandwiches. Little Marionette coffee was phenomenal
E. M.
One of my favourite cafes in all of Sydney. The food and coffee is consistently amazing and the service is always warm and friendly. It's definitely going to be my regular coffee stop for a while now. Do not skip giving this place a go!
M. P.
Great space, good coffee
E. M.
Love this hole in a wall little cafe. The coffee is great, the pastries are amazing. Other things on the menu also looked great. It's on a quiet suburban street in Annandale and when you step inside you feel like you are taken to another place, to another era. It's a fab place to hang out for a few hours during the weekdays. Love it.
M. S.
Awesome spot for a coffee and a pastry! The interior decor is amazing, like an old book shop with hidden doors and high backed leather chairs, and if you're lucky, you can snag a seat looking out of the huge picture window...
The coffee is their own Little Marrionette roast, so you know it's good. The provisions are Black Star, I recommend the lamb shank pie, it's amazing.
The people running the shop are awesome and there are a lot of them, so the wait is never long which isn't always true here in Sydney.
Best place in Annandale for a coffee!
C. w.
Dropped into the cafe this morning on a Tuesday. Service is friendly (funky you could say) which represents the feel of the cafe.
Good coffee and served very fast. Had Avocado on toast and was just delicious. Is a bit tight and cozy in the cafe but nevertheless a nice little place.
e. m.
A wonderful cafe located close to Parramatta Road in Annandale. It serves the delightful Little Marionette Coffee which is a smooth blend and very drinkable. It’s breakfast menu may not be the largest but it certainly does it very well. The fav here is their Sourdough Crumpets. Served with mushrooms, porcini aioli, pecorino, and boiled egg. It is definitely a winner. The service is very hospitable and always enjoyed my visits here.
A. J.
Great cafe. Really good food and atmosphere. And super quick even thought the cafe was full. Took off a star cause I’m not down with ordering and paying at the counter but other than that it would have been a five star experience.
P. K.
Coffee and bacon and egg roll are the best. Has fixed many a hangover.
The setting is very old world charm. The music playlist is always amazing. Sets the vibe for the whole cafe.
F. C.
Nice people with good service skill, pleasant, polite was more they make very good coffee l would be happy to venture in this cafe anytime. the place looks very clean and tiny so lm would be happy to eat here anytime a shame l didnt get to try it on this occasion. people of Annandale you are bless with Choice so support your local business as one day they may not be their.
J. W.
One of my favourite cafes in Sydney. Offering a good selection of coffee including buying beans roasted by The Little Marionette (I remember they roasted on this sites for a few years but have since moved the roasting to their St Peters cafe). Pastries on offer by Blackstar. The food on the menu made in house is fresh, good portions and delicious.
Talking point is the decoration with a rotating bookcase and painting of cherubs on the roof
H. F.
The coffee is the star here - roasted out the back and expertly converted to the perfect caffeine hit by friendly baristas. The house blend is great, and there's always one or two single origins available both to have there and to take away by the bag. The fact that they also have Black Star Pastry sausage rolls, pies, pastries and quiches makes the Little Marionette well worth a visit.
C. S.
Not a very big cafe but worth going to.
Not much variety for food but has good coffee and very interesting interiors (look out for the hidden room behind the bookcase). Great place to hang out and talk with friends, really comfy seats with a nice vibe.
Easy to find and parking out the front is east to get to.
Food and drink are reasonably priced.
L. M.
Sydney's best coffee, delicious breakie and very nice service, appreciate what you are doing thru lockdown 🙂
S. S.
Strong and robust coffee made by hipsters. Cool bookcase door that conceals a nice lounge area. Great music and atmosphere. Good pastry, quiche and pie selection, but no larger meals.
A.
Great coffee but not a fan of the almond milk unfortunately. I go there occasionally and have milk coffees though. Also the ham and cheese croissant is amazing.
O. O.
A great little find! The coffee is fantastic here - roasted on the premises you can have a little peak out the back where the action takes place whilst waiting for your brew. regular coffee is $3.50 and a large will set you back $4. They have a small-yet-satisfying menu...we feasted on a sausage roll ($5) and a feta and leek quiche ($6) and they were both incredible. Is wasn't till after we ooohed, and ahhed, and smacked our lips as we ate did we realise that they are in fact black star pastries - no wonder they were so good! Definitely worth checking this cafe out.
Y. B.
Always go here when I do grandparent duty at Annandale Public School. Good coffee and a really tasty but unusual banana bread.
A. K.
I had such a lovely time here, at the Marionette - I just couldn't leave it unappreciated. I was here with a friend and we got the most polite waitress in the world. She was nice and friendly but not too nosy - she is a real keeper. Also, the breakfast we had was amazing and there's really nothing to complain about.
K. C.
Lovely atmosphere with an incredible variety of impeccable food and coffee. Will be back asap!
c. p.
I usually drink a double espresso and, whilst I am not a coffee connoisseur, I definitely like a good coffee! The espresso here is consistently some of the best
B. G.
I come for delicious the coffee but I stay for the friendliest damn in hipsters in town. The bread is so soft, it is easily worth $355.00 a loaf but they are practically giving it away at just $5. xx. Cyrus is dreamy.
m.
A beautiful cafe which is bigger than it appears from the outside. There's a cosy library area which I love. Food is delicious and coffee perfect.
A. B.
Great coffee, and I'm crazy about their toast with burnt eggplant, avo and sumac. Great to see it back on the spring menu :)
E. N.
There's no real table service as you need to order at the counter. Definitely a great place for catching up with friends as you won't really be interrupted or hurried along. Food and coffee was good.
T. W.
This little corner cafe focuses mainly on their coffee and does little on the food side. You can get a healthy dose of muesli with yoghurt and fresh fruit, or some delicious pastries, like a cinnamon scroll or lamb shank & red wine pie (from Black Star Pastry in Newtown). If you want a big breakfast then you are out of luck, but if it's a great cup of coffee you are after, this is the place to be.
L. C.
Normally love the food at this cafe but would not recommend the fermented porridge. Possibly an acquired taste!
L. F.
I am currently savouring a lovely long black sitting outside. This cafe is situated on a quiet corner. It seems like a local favourite.
I would recommend coming here and trying the coffee.
M. G.
"Spectacular Strong Coffee in a Secret Room inside a Bookcase!"
Little Marionette is doing it right, interesting location, small intimate feel, fast service of passionate baristas, simple fresh and tasty foods (not a massive range but the focus here is COFFEE) drinking coffee in the same place where it is roasted is just RIGHT. It is places like this that make me so proud to live in Sydney, the passion and general standard of quality coffee has seemed to dwindle over the past few years, but Little Marionette are bringing that back and I hope they grow to be a big player in the industry without losing this genuine soul.
C. T.
I always rate places based on a equally distributed ratio of: customer service experience, food and premises. This hidden gem had it all! Just ordered the usual latte and a quiche (which was HUGE and delish) and the coffee break was way more pleasant than I thought! Also, a great place among the ugliness of Parramatta rd area.
C. P. W.
Decent coffee, good cappuccino, but definitively a delicious bacon and egg roll! I like the atmosphere and the staff are always friendly :)
A. Q.
Good coffee (I had a long black, the true test for me), friendly staff and delicious pastries. I haven't tried the main menu, might update this review when I do.
S. K.

N. T. P.
Simply one of the best espresso place in Sydney. Comparable to espresso I have had in Italy 👌
C. D.
Great Coffee, nice banana bread. Passionfruit butter was nice change but normal salted butter is still the best. Nice friendly Staff
S. L.
Great coffee, the staff give off a great positive fun vibe, and the food is simple but yummy!
A. M.
They have a nice menu that they change up fairly often. I found their coffee a bit milky even with a double shot.
V. T.
Best coffee in Sydney without a doubt, not to mention they have some nice pastries from Black Star - I recommend the Lamb Shank Pie.
P. B.
Real nice food, amazing coffee.
S. C.
The iced coffee is made with ice cream, it gives the coffee a bit more vanilla flavor. And their coffee bean are not really strong, but it gives a good after taste!
D. B.
Excellent coffee, every time. The wait can take a while, but it's worth it.
M. B.
Groovy little corner cafe in Annandale, great food and coffee. Great attentative staff who really know how to provide excellent customer service
A. M.
Still the best coffee in Annandale served by the friendliest baristas and they’ve recently expanded the cafe and its extensive menu of yummy food as well.
M. T.
Friendliest staff ever, they make a mean mocha and the food's always great, don't know what's changed recently but always seems full and smiles everywhere!
D. K.

R. M.

L. B.
Great coffee in a cozy environment, pastry and pies from black star and simple but good egg or avo on toast.

Good food and coffee but the tables were unstable which was an annoyance during eating, otherwise great place.
J. F.
Great staff and great vibe! Keep up the good work!
D. S.
Really good long black.
Food is yum.
Friendly customer service.
Only wish they poached eggs <3
S. C.
Usually I just pop in to buy (very nicely roasted) beans, but it's also very pleasant to sit in, drink coffee and perhaps even have a snack.
D. V.
Great coffee and nice place to hang out and enjoy the sunny mornings. The house blend is supreme
G. H.
If you hear a barista making a side deal "Well, we've got a kilo of colombian here, it's good stuff" then panic not - they also roast and sell coffee on site, and seem to really know their beans.
D. M.
Brilliant little cafe. Great service and very good coffee. The sausage rolls are awesome.
R. D.
Great friendlyhelpful service. Nice coffee and food. Dog friendly and chilled

We had a nice brunch at Trafalgar, splitting two sandwiches between us. The Reuben was packed with filling and seductive melted cheese. The ham sandwich was fresh and well balanced between the heaviness of the bread and fillings. Overall, nice way to start our day.
