Comments of Grease Monkey

Delicious pizza and burgers. Big open outdoors space, undercover and had the football on the screens. Easy to order from table and friendly wait staff. We ordered the meat lovers pizza, the burnout fried chicken burger and double deluxe beef burger plus loaded fries. Monday special half price pizza. Very good! Pizza better than burgers but burgers also delicious!
P. S.
Yummy dinner at Grease Monkey. They had the tight Tuesdays promo going on so we enjoyed a free drink with a burger order each!
The burger portions were generous, with fresh soft buns and crispy, crumbed Portobello mushrooms. The burgers had a "homemade" feel to it if you compared it to other burger places like Grill'd and Milky Lane, however they did not lack in taste.
Items ordered:
Nimbin
Double Deluxe
Tap Cider - This was very easy to drink.
Capi Grapefruit - This tasted like cider.
Overall
Food: 7/10
Environment: 7/10 - good for large groups, casual setting.

This place is awesome! Best burgers in Canberra and amazing Gluten Free buns. The vibe of the place was great and the service was amazing too! A must visit place if you love a good meal!!!
S. V.
Very nice atmosphere, good location, service is good and staff very friendly and helpful. They have nice vegan options, a burger and a pizza. We had the Tesla pizza and it was absolutely delicious. Only downside is that we had the same pizza at another branch and it was definitely bigger. Vegan burger is really delicious. Good selection of beers on tap. Chips are good. Overall we liked the experience, we visited on a Sunday evening, it wasn't too busy and it was a nice end of a weekend.

Loved all the beautiful plants in the space. I ordered the supreme. It was yumm. The tomato sauce is on top and keeps everything moist and was full of flavour. My friend ordered the motor pizza. It was chicken with mint chutney. I didn't like it much. We did have a mild case of food poisoning after the meal. I recon it was the chicken pizza as the chicken didn't taste fresh.
I. V. J.
This was hands down the best vegan burger I've ever had. I asked to replace the patty with the panko-crusted portobello on their Vegan Greasy Burger and it was delicious. We've had the regular Greasy Vegan before as well as the Tesla pizza. You can't go wrong. The price is a bit on the expensive side but if you are getting beers for half a price during the happy hour, the final bill is pretty fair.
A. C.
Lovely covered outdoor seating where you could get a spot for crowd-watching and traffic around the big round-about intersecting Elouera/Mort.
Burgers were alright and chips were unremarkable. The service was also forgettable.
D. T.
Loved the ambience, nice outdoors seating, decor and design with the big hanging pots gave the place a great vibe. Staff are helpful and friendly. Food is nice, tried their smash test burger was nice, fried chicken was average, I had better, sweet potatoes fries were a bomb but the blue cheese mayonnaise was a but disappointing. Yet their signature greasy sauce was delicious. Would go there again in a heartbeat. Very curious about their Detroit style pizzas 🍕
J. W.
Bang on! Easy ordering by phone, great outdoor atmosphere, pizza is unique and tasty, burgers good, lots of beers to try, jalapeno poppers 💣
A. S.
Great ambience, place to have a beer and watch sport. Personally don't get the hype around the burgers, there is better around. Pretty disappointed to see the staff chuck a few trays of cooked chicken in the bin when the kitchen closed (9:30) - plenty of food charities around or give it to the customers drinking beers still in your venue.
C. B.
Burgers are big and greasy and great variety in menu options. Local beer on tap or other options to choose from
S. I.
Great place for a late night food. Price used to be very affordable but recently they increased the price however service level and hygiene standards improved too. Still it will be my one of the go to place whenever I visit Canberra. Billy offers a great service during my this visit. Thanks ❤️
G. Y.
Very good casual eatery in the centre of Braddon. Food was served quickly and was freshly made. Great range of food and drinks on offer. You can order online or at the counter. It can be busy so good to book a table if you are looking to dine in.
P. S.
Thanks for looking after us with a couple of ‘Full Service’ Gluten Free burgers. Fuelled us up to keep going for the rest of the journey.
N.
Arguably the best fried chicken burger you’ll get in Canberra, but definitely in my opinion the best because it’s served with chippies on the side. The original beef burger is also a go too with a soft burger bun. Always yum to eat.
S. R.
Food is to a good, consistent standard every time I have visited. Order is through the QR code on the table and the food arrived quickly but they lost our drink order so we didn't get drinks until we went to the bar after our meal. A little disappointing so I'm not sure how functional this order-from-your-phone at the table really is. Perhaps something to work on.
J. P.
The meatlovers pizza was amazing! Crispy base, BBQ sauce to die for! Kids milkshakes were delicious apparently!
Chips were crispy.
Although I didn't order it I saw a hotdog being delivered to another table, made me wish I had ordered one of those bad boys!
Next time!
M. S.
Great vibe. Staff are friendly and nice. Most importantly food is delicious. Tried Greasy Vegan, Nimbin and Tesla (all vegetarian) and as a non vegetarian I enjoyed all these options. Highly recommended.
B. J.
We always make time to stop at grease monkey when visiting Canberra.
Always consistent, tasty chips, zingy tomato relish, good selection of on tap beers, undercover outdoor tables.
Can always rely on a good feed.
A. D.
Woah, this place was awesome. We walked past by chance on boxing day and were super impressed. Not only did they have delicious jalapeno margs - but the food was, as promised, greasy and delicious. Nice outdoor area with lots of misting fans going to keep you cool. Will be back when in Canberra again.
R. Y.
Okay food (??? See more) and great on-Tap boutique beers. Except....... they kinda totally f$&keep the order and lost it.
As compromise they helped with a free beer. But I didn't get a pizza dinner that night. So, lots of pluses for initial order and beer but a neg star for not giving my order the 100%. Soz guys but it was a thing. Luv ya still. Will go again.
J.
Excellent spot – great vibe. They recently introduced at-table mobile ordering (for food only), but works well. Staff are always friendly. Check out weekday deals. They do pizzas too - but if it’s your first time – recommend ordering the ‘Greasy’ and if you’re a truffle fan, try their Truffle Mac n Cheese bites.
J. D.
Had a vegetarian burger, it had two crumbed mushrooms as the patty, was delicious and very filling. Salad was all very fresh. Best burger I've had in a while. It came with chips, also yummy, they had a seasoning that I haven't had before. Might have had a touch of curry powder in the seasoning. Very nice. I'll order from here again.
G. K.
This place is hit and miss. When it's good it's great, but when it's bad.. it's really bad.
Pro: the vegan burger is pretty awesome, so is the Nimben. Omni friends love the meat burgers too. they rotate craft beer on tap, and have a good outdoor area.
Cons: Customer service on the takeaway door is pretty bad. Waited for 25 minutes, was ignored. Staff member rolled his eyes at me when I stepped over to the delivery window and told me he doesn't like to use the customer window... what?!
Vegan pizza is pretty abysmal. I thought that they put the cheese on raw... was told that it doesn't melt. If this is the case, buy different cheese, most vegan cheese melts.
Last time we went for a sit down service, we were told that we could only stay for 90 minutes. I understand that during restrictions this is needed to meet demand, but it was after dinner rush and they only had 4 customers.
J. G.
Ate in at lunch and it was great customer service was good and food was good worth 4 stars. Ordered takeaway at dinner food was average beer was warm and customer service lacking. Worthy of 2 stars. Overall 3
M. K.
Chicken wings was amazing as always but we got very very small portion (wish i had taken picture) and didn't get any sauce. They took a long time to serve food which was understandable because it was busy. For sure will visit again but 3 stars for now.
A. L.
Best pizza north of the lake. The staff here are top notch people. Thanks for caring about our Canberra community’s health and safety!
S. A.
Fantastic burgers and awesome atmosphere! Staff are very friendly and welcoming.
Cheers for the beers Grease Monkey!!
A. D.
Absolutely delicious pizza and burgers. You cannot go wrong with whatever you pick on the menu. Also head in on Tuesday to get a free beer with your burger. Highly recommend.
W. K.
My partner and I had heard alot of good things about Grease monkey. When we got there it wasn't too busy which was good, we waited around 15mins for our food, I ordered the Dirty bird burger with extra sauce and the loaded fries.
My partner ordered the vegan burger and sweet potato fries.
My burger was delicious however the chicken was barely warm. Plenty of sauce which I like. The southern fried chicken wasn't too big.
The loaded fries were good but ended up like mash.
My partner said her vegan burger was probably one of the best she has ever had.
The wait staff were good, beer and wine were good. They had a pretty good selection of local beers and wines.
They have a serious fly problem, they should fix that.
Other then that, it was a overall good experience.
D. C.
The Greasy's burger is a perfectly balanced burger. I've eaten burgers all over the world and theirs is one of the best.
- Just the inside edge of the buns is crispy and crunchy. The rest of the bun is so light and fluffy, yet structurally sound.
- brilliantly minced prime cuts of beef, smash grilled for a bit of crunch on the edges but juicy and tender in the middle.
- fantastic special sauce, complimented by pickles and onion.
- great cheese. Melts well. Isn't 'plastic'.
- seasoned very well. Just the right sprinkle of S&P.
The best part, they are so consistent over a long period of time. The outdo maccas on the one thing they are supposed to be famous for!
Did I mention Pizza..?
A.
Great burgers. GF buns and bunless options. Looks like the chips are cooked in a separate fryer if you select the coeliac option.
Good cider and gingerbeer on tap too.
P. G.
Got the burnout and the Philly cheese steak, both were awesome!! Tender juicy meats, the bacon was perfect crisps, and all the sauces and cheese just worked well together. Atmosphere is fun and staff are friendly
o. l.
I had a double delux and hubby had a meat lovers pizza. If you like pizza hut style pizza your in for a treat. My burger patty was slightly overcooked. Seasoning on the chips was nice however chips wasn’t fresh.
I. M.
My fave Detroit pizza in Australia! Hands down these guys kill it and whether it's burgers, beers pizza or fried chicken you know it's gonna be good
A. B.
Interacted with 5 or 6 staff and every single one of them was nice. They all smiled at me and were patient when I didn't know where to go. They were all so helpful with providing information and were never too quick to judge. The place looks amazing as always and the system they have is just so organised and effective. Meatlovers pizza was so great and tasty. Chicken burger was actually incredible - chicken was just so tender and tasty and bun was so soft and flavourful. Will plan to have my dinner here every time I go down to the snow from Sydney. I look forward to coming here again and again.
D. S.
Came over with my 7 year old for an late lunch.
Garlic Prawn pizza was basically a margarita with two small prawns on top. 80% of it tasted just like a margarita.
Also, all the songs were have on swearing. After a polite tip about the problem, two songs were okay but soon the swearing started again.
A. T.
Pretty much every item on the menu is fantastic - can't go wrong!
S. L.
Insanely good food. Best burger I've ever had. I had the Nimbin burger with crumbed portabello mushrooms and my husband had the smash burger. The burgers are constructed so well, they don't fall apart when you eat them. Ingredients were ridiculously fresh. The fries were crispy and beautifully seasoned. The true surprise were the truffle mac and cheese bites. They weren't greasy, but had a very impressive cheese pull and were so yummy. I washed all this down with a pint of Matso's Ginger Beer, which went really well with our amazing meal. To top it off, the lads who served us were absolute legends. I would give them 10 stars if I could.
L. R. K.
Sea monkey and dirty bird burgers are out of this world. Love the wholesomeness and goodness is amazing. Other customers praised their greasy vegan and greasy beef burgers also. Definitely a five star plus one for me.
K. M. (. K.
The food here is great but it can get quite busy on weekends. That said, despite being busy when I went, my order came out very quickly. I was quite surprised and impressed.
I particularly liked the fried chicken, which was juicy and well seasoned. The cheesecake and pizzas here are also fantastic. The pizzas are quite expensive for what you get, but they make up for it in flavour.
The burgers are also quite good but didn't quite hit the mark for me compared to the other options.
Would go again.
J. M.
This places used to be amazing, then we got served chicken wings that was a pathetic portion size, motzzerela sticks with zero flavor, they forgot to bring out food even when reminded the food never came and all washed down with a completely flat glass of coke. The staff floor staff here are the only reason this review isn’t a 1 star.
T. B.
What a great find - Grease Monkey! Awesome concept of sports on tv, beer and burgers, pizza and wings! The chips were so good, beef burger mouth watering, beer chilly cold, service super friendly and ambience 10/10! Definitely worth the visit!
S. C.
We went on a Sunday night and the place was absolutely packed. There's seating inside but the outside area was really lovely and even though it was a chilly night, we didn't feel it because there were lots of patio heaters. Food was great value and was served promptly. Our burgers were really delicious and we especially loved the Jalapeno Poppers. There are a great range of beers but on Sundays there's a $10 cocktail deal - my Greasy (AKA Bloody) Mary went down a treat. Will definitely be back next time we're in Canberra.
J. W.
Both times we've eaten here, both takeout and in person, it's been absolutely delicious. The William Wallace Burger is a particular highlight and a must-try for any meat lovers!
m.
Nice stop for burgers. The inside and outdoor seating is unique amd there were a good amount of tvs to watch sporting events going on.
P. C.
An upbeat and chilled out vibe, nice high quality pub food, and a low-key icon of Lonsdale st. Take your friends, but don't hesitate to make a booking it can get busy especially on the Friday afternoon.
M. E.
Awesome burgers, pulled pork and double smash beef, highly recommend it
D. C.
Awesome and reliable dinner for when we go to Summernats.
Always pretty busy during these times but the service I found is still very good and quality of food is amazing
D. S.
Great pizza! One slice is very satisfying and delicious! I had expected one slice to come out as a typical triangle shape and cut from an existing pizza but nope - your "slice" is handmade in a square shapes tin and custom made for you. Nice and hot. Perfect!
T. K.
Recommended by a friend so went to try out on a Saturday night. We got to the venue around 6.30 pm and it was pretty packed already, with many tables waiting for groups to claim their reservations. The atmosphere was lively and we struggled to find a quiet spot.
Orders are at the bar. My friend went for a fried chicken burger and a non-alcoholic ginger beer, I got a house lager and a vegan burger for $27.
Service was reasonably fast given the number of customers. The burgers, however, were quite austere. The seitan patty was dry and accompanied by just a single slice of lettuce and tomato, with a topping of presumably vegan cheddar and red onion. The sweet potato fries were good though, with a sprinkling of sea salt on top. House lager wasn't bad either. But given that this is a burger place, I expected more from the food. For the price of the meal, there are more fulfilling options in Canberra.
J. C.
Food was served quickly even during peak period. Good local tap selection. Burgers are tasty. Chip salt was a bit spicy for kids so next time would opt out.
D.
Food is simply unbelievable, if your visiting canberra grease monkey is a must, best pizza I've ever had and a great atmosphere.
K. M.
I've been a couple times and each time I've never been disappointed. This was the Greasy and the flavour is near perfect, the bun has good body to it and doesn't collapse when eating. And the chips are perfectly seasoned! I've also tried the Dirty Bird and that is also worthy of the 5 stars!
A. (. B.
Funky up-market pub grub. Dirty Bird southern fried chicken was well done (crunchy on the outside & juicy inside) and the salt on the chips were good. Buns could have been done better & the fillings inside were a bit sloppy - maybe because it was a busy Sat night over the long weekend. Service was chaotic but again possibly as it was a long weekend.
H. S.
The burgers are delicious here. Had the fried chicken burger of which comes with fries. The fries have a little bit of kick to it with the seasoning (which I like). Our orders came very quickly too. Would not mind coming back at all.
J. Z.
Great vibe, lovely staffs. Great pizza, fried chicken is pretty good. It’s lovely to have a drink and have a bite. Recommend this place😉
R. M.
Verdict - great burgers and masala fries. Excellent value for money.
Was looking for a place to eat in Canberra and came across this place. Didn’t disappoint at all. Would have loved to try their pizzas but just didn’t have space. Definitely one for the next time.
B. A.
tldr; If you’re looking for really good and satisfying burgers, this isn’t the place. If you’re looking for a nice place to hang out and spend time with friends, this is the place.
The burgers are very underwhelming and average. My friend got the mushroom burger because she’s vegetarian and said it was okay. The food did come out pretty fast. The fries are nicely seasoned and plentiful. Decently priced for Canberra I’d say. My Greasy burger was $15.
The atmosphere is the best thing about this place. Nice music with an intimate garage kind of vibe.
A. T.
Awesome food and vibe. Fast service. Typical meal prices around $20 with a drink. Have always ordered their Greasy Burger or Double Greasy, no bad experiences. Not sure which spices they put on their chips but they are delicious.
Can get a bit noisy inside and out during busy periods. Never had a problem finding a table for 2, but it might be difficult to get a group in without a reservation. Can get a bit noisy when busy.
Currently lots of construction around Braddon can sometimes make sitting outside a bit noisy too.
If you can deal with the busyness and occasional noise, you wont regret the food.
L. D.
The place offers great burger and good service. Burgers are really good: juicy beef, perfectly cooked with tasty cheese and soft bread🥰 chips are crispy and yummy.
D. L.
Grease Monkey is definitely one of the most popular burger joints in Canberra. Located in the bustling Braddon, most of the customers are young uni students and yuppies. There’s a full bar and variety of burger and pizza options. I would say that the burger was pretty nice but nothing amazing. The bun was soft (maybe even a bit too much), the flavour was tasty but the chips were a bit bland and mushy. The macaroni cheese balls were delicious though, texture being soft and chewy. My biggest complaint would have been the lack of adequate aircon, because even though it was running it was super hot and uncomfortable inside. Overall 3.5 stars.
R.
Always a treat to be able to come back for their burgers! The buns are super soft and the meat patty is juicy. The special house sauce that goes with it is a must.
Also am a big fan of their sweet potato chips.
They have a great bar selection too but if you're looking to have dinner here, make sure you get there early as it's often packed.
P. E.
Awesome menu, service and atmosphere. A unique Detroit style pizza menu not commonly seen anywhere else.
Highly recommend a try of the pizza. Generous toppings and nice sauces.
J. F.
Love, love, love this place. Happy hour has great deals and the staff are always a delight! Let me bring my pup in and sit in the in/outdoor area. Love the food.
M. B.
I liked the online, at the table ordering. The food came out in less time than it took me to decide and was very nice. The bartender was helpful and knowledgeable and the house beer (Greasy Lager?) was very good! I had several 😁
K. T.
Very tasty American style burgers in a trendy part of town. As visitors from Sydney the vibe was very chilled and comparable to the burger joints popping up all around Sydney. Decent prices with a wide variety of options, with both indoor and outdoor seating. Service was good and the wait for food was not very long at all. We'll be back when in town.
R. C.
Came here for a work lunch. The greasy burger was so good. Easy to order via QR code.
I. S.
I walked in on a whim for a snack but walked out a fan. At offpeak, only a few customers lingering about. It was cold outside but inside had a welcoming vibe - love the puns found in the decor.
Obviously I was here to try the burgers. I decided on a double and a chicken burger. I was craving freshness and the chicken burger delivered with a generous and appropriate amount of vegetables with a juicy piece of chicken. The double was greasy, filling, and great.
p. e.
I ordered Greasy burger and I think this is one of the most delicious burger in the city. The suppreme pizza is too salty for me, but it's still good. Good place yo have a chit chat with our friends
S. L. C.
Had brunch here and ordered a Beyond Burger. Nice ambience and music. Service took longer than expected. The burger was alright and fries were very nice
M.
Awesome selection of beers and delicious burgers. The pizza looked great as well (but I haven't tried it yet). Get in early as it gets packed. I look forward to my next visit next time I'm in Canberra
E. T.
It was ok. The place wasnt too busy on a wednesday night. The staff were quick in cleaning the area and desk as well. Person taking the order could use a bit of customer service, but i am not deducting any from that. The burger bun was good, but the chicken was just ok. Chips were good though. The fried chicken was nothing special. I would rate KFC higher and that says a lot.
J. F.
This place has never let us down. We have a vegetarian and a vegan in the house so not every restaurant can feed us. Great treat for the family when we can afford a meal out or takeaway as it is currently.
B. S.
Food was great! Good atmosphere. Bar staff are a little bit slow.
S. R.
A great range of food for non-vegans. Good range of beers and unusual soft drinks. Prices seem average for the area but they do have happy hour for food and drinks. Cooling water mist in summer. Loaded fries were very cheesy, way too much for one person.
P. M.
This was my first time here and the service was really good! Staff were smiling, the vibes were great and there was a condiment station with chilly flakes (always a bonus).
I ordered a greasy burger, a jalapeno poppers and a root beer. The jalapeno poppers knocked it out of the park - crispy, large portions and came with a large portion of yummy sauce.
I loved the variety of drink choices as well.
The burger was tasty but i will take 1 star away for soggy chips :(. The seasoning on the chips was so good as well, its a shame. Wish they were fried fresh or fried correctly coz they were not crispy. Also, I ll try double meat burger next time as I'd like a bigger meat patty. But for the price, very very good. I will be back for sure.
M. D.
Ordered the Greasy Vegan for lunch. Service was quick and the food was hot and tasty but very overpriced. However, with the venue's location and size of the venue, I suppose their overheads would be massive!
P.
As the name suggests, burgers are pretty 'greasy'. Had the basic one with some sweet potato wedges. With a soft drink it cost me $27. Wedges were good but the burger was meh - would be surprised if the patty was any bigger than 100g. I have had much tastier burgers for a lot less money at some well known fast food joints.
D. B.
One of my absolute favourite burgers. I keep coming back to Canberra, and thinking I should try something else... But it's just so good. Good selection of beers, and you have to get a side of truffle mac n cheese bites!
i.
Cracker food, killer service, and value for money. All that wrapped up in a hipster blanket.
M. R.
They do a bunch of simple things very well. The burgers are basic and tasty. They have malted milk shakes - make sure to order them thick. And their tap selection is solid. Nice place in the neighborhood.
S. P.
Nice burger, a bit small for the price. Missing order or forgotten order.
E. W.
Great atmosphere and the best burgers in town.
G. 2. G.
Tuesday night order a burger get a beer for free. Place was packed so if you want to eat at certain time book ahead, there were plenty of reserved tables. Good atmoshere.
H.
Really enjoy the food although expensive,, only real down side are the amount of cringey 20 year old men ladened with insecurity
h. j.
Never disappointed
Food always amazing and standard taste for take away and dinning in....
Beers awesome
Really would recommend people to visit
D. A. (.
Came here with friends and we all ordered something different.
We grabbed a few different burgers, some. Of the wings and cocktails. They were fantastic.
Would recommend the Berry Poppins.
T. H.
Decent burgers and pizzas - quite a big space and good service. Slightly pricey.
K. A.
Love their Detroit style pizza. The vegan options are so good, would definitely recommend.
T. T.
Burgers were delicious! Was great to see they cater for all dietary requirements!
J. V.
Great burgers and chips! didn't get to try the other food whilst in town but it was delicious. Great atmosphere with the setting and tvs around to watch all the sports! reminds me of Milky Lane but more with an outdoor beer garden sports bar vibe.
d. g.
Small but great burgers that unusually though very welcoming come with a side of chips
A. R.
Kind of expensive, and the burgers are not that great. Drinks are good tho
C.
Cannot get enough of this place. It was recommended to us by friends and oh boy did it live up to the hype! Awesome burgers, plenty of craft beer and great vibes
F. C.
The supreme pizza (single) was unique and very filling for 1 person. Loved the fried chicken too!
F. K.
We had vegan and vego pizza to start, it was too that I didn’t even a chance to get a good picture. Wonderful pizza, fluffy and crunch crust and the toppings were generous and flavorful. Can’t say we could tell the difference between the chorizo and the Italian sausage... Always busy and always reserve a table! You can sit at reserved tables until people show up.
V.
The patties in these burgers were done perfectly! Definitely recommend the truffle Mac and cheese bites as well :)
J. R.
Always so friggin good! These guys have a great location, great staff and heaps of great food. I highly recommended these guys everytime
J. J.
Best Burgers and Pizza in town! The fried chicken isn't too bad either. Our go to for a deliciously greasy meal.
a.
dirty bird is easily the best chicken burger i have had the pleasure in devouring
m. s.
Had the meat lovers pizza very good reasonable selection of beers on tap good vibe about the place.
J. H.
Great burgers. Friendly staff. Good wine. I'm not normally a burger guy, but these were really good. Worth doing the upgrade to the sweet potato wedges. The ordinary chips looked a bit ordinary. Possibly my view is clouded by some rubbish chips at a different place earlier in the day.
Most will agree that burgers are finger food. And the paper towels on the table are the give away that you aren't getting cutlery with that burger. A bit harsh dropping a star just for the lack of cutlery but the option would have been nice.
S. P.
Detroit pizza is the bomb!
That aside this is an awesome place to grab a bite to eat and have a drink with some friends. Fairly laid back environment with a good range of beverages on tap. Will be back to try the burgers next time
K.
Had the Vegan Burger which was yum! Taste almost like the real thing, a great option for friends that want a meatless alternative. Even the bacon tasted real!
L. H.
Vegan Greasy is Bellissimo 👌👌👌Contender for best vego burger in Canberra. Similar to Brod but has Facon which is a lovely touch. They're each great in their own way. Nice buns, lovely sauce and yummy chippies. Good place for drinks too, with a good selection of tap beers and cocktails. Its usually crowded so book a table on Friday/Saturday night, lovely staff and quick service makes it a good place all round.
C. L.
The burgers and caramel milkshake were nice but doesn't particularly stand out compared to Melbourne burgers and milkshakes. Service was friendly, venue was great, food orders for ~10 people came out all together
A. D.
best pizza, so tasty😋! but the large pizza is soooooo smalllll =D it's like one person serve.
T. j.
Great selection of food, yummy hamburgers... Be prepared to wait for seating and meal on busy nights..
D. m.
Nice 👍 burger in Canberra
Tasty😋 burgers Really and good fries 🍟
Wonderful spot for weekend
U have to come over and try
A. H.
Great fried chicken and wings. The Mac and cheese snacks are delicious! I was a bit disappointed by the truffle parmesan chips though, they were a little bland.
W.
Great burger joint! Nice selection of beers too. Dog friendly and child friendly. The fried chicken is very much like KFC but better
C. N. (.
Burgers, fries, and associated greasies with your choice of tipple to wash it down. The menu is great with a number of good variants, the ambience is fantastic, and they have an extensive list of drink options including a full bar.
The food produced is great quality, tasty, and plentiful - don't order a side and burger & fries (which come with every burger), you won't finish them! It is standard grease food, but you're at the Grease Monkey, what did you expect!?
The service is not super fast, and is bar orders only, with delivery to you once the kitchen has prepared it. The food came out in fair time, and overall the team are friendly and accommodating.
Definitely worth a visit for a burger, and the fact the joint was completely full is very good testament to the food, music, and bar itself.
G. T.
I have always loved going to Grease Monkeys! Food is always good, great atmosphere and a great time out!
H. S.
The burgers were a terrible flavour… Without any substance… They didn’t taste as good as the first time we visited (2 years ago. )and we are poorly made… Service was just ok nothing special.
J. L.
Outstanding burgers and pizzas with great daily specials everyday. This place lives up to the hype
M. G.
Awesome burgers! Will go back any time I'm in Canberra!
A. Z.
Trendy burger and deep pizza bar. Great ambience but on the higher priced end.
M. M.
Delicious American style burgers and fries in a funky bar atmosphere. We loved it!
R. S.
Decent food and friendly service lives up to the name but tastes pretty good
A. B.
Although the taste of their burgers was good, for the price, the meat patty was short of the mark. Not only was it too thin, it also lacked width and did not fill the bun. Additionally, it proved insufficient and I had to order more food.
Staff were great and this business has a fantastic atmosphere.
A. G.
Holy Dooley they make some great pizzas, especially the "motor city", it's the bomb!
P. M. A.
celebrated our first anniversary at the grease monkey tonight. loved the burgers, especially the pulled pork. :* will definitely come back.
S. K.
An amazing restaurant located in the heart of Canberra. Grease Monkey serves a wide range of mouth watering American dishes. Great location for students who want to eat out but don't want to spend much money.
D. M. J.
If you like a nice cheese burger - get the classic greasey burger, moist and soft! And if you like chicken and potato and mash, super crunchy and moist - coleslaw was not what it should be in terms of being creamy but nice bite to eat
T. A. P.
Easy process to order. It didn't take too long to get the food. Chill atmosphere.
c.
Great food, quick and friendly service even when busy, great atmosphere.
W. L.
Mac and cheese bites are amazing. Good food but greasy. Lives up to its name
E. R.
Great Burgers. Good atmosphere and Service. $$
L. “.
Pretty decent burgers, cool atmosphere and lovely service. Can’t go wrong really.
M. T.
Busy, great food and great service! Love deep dish pizza and theirs was best I have had in Australia, fried chicken great, and burger really nice as well. 2 kids 2 and 5 y/o enjoyed all the dishes as well.
M. M.
Good burgers and chips (the vegetarian Nimbin is excellent), local microbrews, quick service, acceptable prices, free schooner with burger on Tuesday. The music is a bit loud, but overall this is a great place to have a bite and a catch-up. Gets pretty busy on a Friday night, like most of Braddon.
D. M.
Really excellent burger and chips. That's what they advertise, and they deliver. A bit noisy, but that's consistent with the atmosphere they're going for.
K. W.
Absolutely fantastic, best pizza I've ever had, the loaded fries are very tasty but next time I'll just get one or the other, you certain get what you paid for.
Exceptional customer service and a lovely ambience. I'll be back for sure.
N.
Wierd but super tasty pizza, espresso martini’s where delicious.. some how we arrived just in time to avoid the insane queue
V. Y.
Burgers are tasty. But a bit small for the price. Atmosphere is good. I would recommend for a group setting.
s.
Went there many years ago and was not even slightly impressed, I was more repulsed (must have been a day).
BUT tonight I went back for take-out... this time the two burgers we shared between us were nothing less than truly exceptional!
And they even gave us near perfect chips for free!!
M. G.
Grease monkey has a great burger and service ! Very tasty burgers
B. G.
Great staff and amazing burgers. 10/10
K. S.
Great pizzas. Good to see they care about the safety of their staff & customers.
B.
Foods still awesome, but I do miss the 6 slice pizzas they used to sell.
S. T.
Great food... so quick and very good serves... very friendly staff, they make you feel welcome... also a good range of drinks and only a small but tasty looking deserts...
M. R.
I quite enjoyed my time here. Two kids cheeseburgers were a good size and they ate all of them. I had the greasy burger which had a real good tasting mince with a nice sauce. A little bit too much sauce for me as it gets soggy quick. Mozzarella sticks were spot on, loved them. Spicy chicken wings had this heavy sauce sauce on it which i wasn't a big fan of but they were cooked nicely. I would definitely like to come back to try the pizza as it looked excellent. Good selection of beers on tap as well. See you next time.
d. c.
Stopped here for lunch one Sunday. Delicious pizza, friendly staff, terrific atmosphere. Good prices. Very clean restrooms.
T. J. F.
Due to restrictions there can be a wait to be seated, got takeaway. Vegetarian option was absolutely amazing - one of the best burgers I've had. Sweet potato fries were also good. Would love to dine in, would eat here again.
L. C.
Happy Hour for beverages and snacks is a 11/10 choice 👌👌
r. l.
The crispy chicken and hotdog bun tastes really really good.
D. W.
Outstanding beef burgers, the Greasy is just perfect. Legit pizzas. Cool vibes. Really mediocre chips - like worse than a bad fish & chip shop; they were well cooked but just really meh. But the burgers, so good!
S. O.
Literally the best chicken burger I've had in at least 5 years! Highly recommend!
N. P.
Great place for kids and catching up with friends. Service is always tuned and the food is on point. Excellent beer selection. Recommend the Philly Cheesesteak. Will be back!
J. M.
Visited just before Christmas and it was packed. Great atmosphere, friendly staff and efficient service.
Enjoyed one of there burger and drink deals and it was great value. The burger was very good. Will hopefully be back!
S. D.
Only second time I've been here. Lunch with three others. Three burgers and one three piece chicken, chips, two beers and two soft drinks $115. Pretty expensive lunch in my opinion. Staff were really nice and welcoming and they've got their covid seating and sign-in down really well with a QR code on each table. I think for $20 the burgers are a bit underwhelming. Mushroom wasn't too bad but chicken a bit dry. Chips well seasoned but nothing to write home about. Maybe it's me but the main thing I remember is the price.
N.
I’ve only been to the truck at Woden but the burgers there are amazeballs! I don’t know what’s in their special sauce but its divine - absolutely chip dip and wrapper licking worthy. Not the cheapest burger place in Canberra but the serving sizes, quality and great taste make it pretty good value for money.
C.
SO SO GOOD. Satisfied my cravings for a burger feed! Highly recommend the chicken tandoori pizza
A. B.
Great burger. Tasty fries. Great beer on tap. Friendly staff.
K. M.
Great food, the flavour mixing was sensational. Came in looking for a late lunch, left extremely satisfied.
To cap it off the staff were super friendly and accomodating! Will come again (came back again today, so good!!)..
M. T. (.
Very funky and popular venue, burgers were delicious, operation was very slick
a.
Great atmosphere and great music, the outdoor altar den area was so nice and has a great vibe. I didn’t feel like I was in the middle of Civic, as soon as o stepped into Grease Monkeys I felt teleported. Amazing place would recommend.
C. F.
One of the best burgers I've had in Australia
b. r.
Went for the 2nd time on our recent visit. Will be back every time we are in the area, good food, good drinks, good atmosphere. From pizza to the burgers, it was amazing as always!! 🥰
L. M.
Always a great time here. Atmosphere, music choice and staff always make visiting here for a bev/food, very enjoyable.
K. K.
Good specials on certain nights. Fresh basic pub food.
S. L.
Great burgers at a very hipster joint. The bloody Mary has bacon, almost like a Ceaser, and did you know you can add fried chicken to this!
H. W.
Great place for Sunday afternoons with friends. An excellent variety of $10 cocktails with a great selection of food to go with it. Having someone on decks in the corner would have made it perfect. Visiting from Sydney for the weekend but will definitely return next time I visit Canberra.
A. R.
Pricy for burgers, but good quality and very filling. Worth it.
D. B.
Great burgers. And now they're doing delicious looking deep-dish pizzas which I'm keen to try. It's also a good place for after work drinks, especially when the weather is good. It can be a little cold in the outdoor area in the winter. Acoustics aren't the best if you're looking for a place you can talk to 4 people at once. I recommend the beyond burger here. It's one of the best.
T.
Food is always fantastic. Choice of beers it's on point
A. Æ.
Good service, delicious food
But way overpriced ($21) for a MacDonald’s sized burger and a small serving of chips. You would get a larger burger (that’s a little less fancy) for half the price at your local takeaway. Typical Canberra tax situation designed to appear
To hipster types which wouldn’t fly in larger cities. Make the prices reasonable and I’d return.
J. H.
Great burgers, amazing pizza, good beer and good service. You can't go wrong!
J. B.
Burgers and chips are the best. Love it. Even though its very busy, great and fast service. The servers are always happy, overall and enjoyable night out everytime. Good food, good company and good service.
D.
The restaurant has a casual outdoor pub feel with different sports showing on the TVs. I ordered the Grease Burger which came with fries on the side and 3 pieces of fried chicken from the bar. The pattie was juicey and the toppings were fresh. The fries were hot and crispy and seasoned well. The fried chicken was dry and was similar in quality to KFC.. though I think this was due to the fact that the kitchen was closing and this batch may have been sitting there for a while and wasn’t cooked to order.
Staff were friendly and the service was good. I’d definitely go back again but I’d ask for the chicken to be cooked fresh.
S. K.
My boyfriend and I had a weekend in Canberra and this was the first stop. We didn't have a booking and was still able to get a table after a short wait. We both ordered burgers and shakes. The size of the meal was worth the price and the meal came out quickly and was delicious. I would absolutely return upon my next visit to Canberra
M. W. (.
Food was awesome. Service was quick. Atmosphere was chilled. Meat lovers (Large)
T. C.
Decent burger, below average chips. Meal
came out quick.
Generally burger places have to impress me due to their often high cost and relatively small portion.
Chips could have used more salt and some were barely cooked, almost as if they didn't go into the deep frier.
All the staff look like they came straight out of a Melbourne fashion catalogue targeting 24 year old uni students.
B.
Crazy good food, warm but bustling atmosphere and a quirky bar. What more could you want!
A. Y.
Enjoyed the Philly Steak and pizza, very filling! Sat outside on a cold day but were kept warm by the ample heaters. Service was very friendly and efficient. Will definitely go back again.
D. N.
First time having grease monkey tonight at their new store in Gungahlin. Great fit out, solid team and the food was great. They were getting pumped tonight (and so they should) the staff were amazing at handling it all. Yes the wait time was a little longer tonight but for the first day they smashed it out of the park. I can’t wait to get it again soon.
I had the double deluxe with 3 piece of fried chicken. Some of the best food I have had in Canberra. The pizzas looked killer too!
Nice work Josh, Frank, Nick, Soc and the team
A. M.
Shared 3 of the Detroit pizzas they were all amazing!
C. S.
Great service and amazing food. The food came within 10 minutes (was a very busy night as well) and I had one of their pizzas which I would definitely recommend 👌
F.
The fried chicken was VERY average. The place is not cheap either. 6 pieces of fried chicken was 21$. Better feed at KFC. In addition, drinks was not cheap.
G.
Food came out fast and tasted very good. Well worth it.
M. G.
Great experience. After reading some of the reviews, I am not too sure what people are expecting, but this place was fantastic!! It is a burger and pizza joint. Not only was the food very good, but the service was great as well. I will be back for sure.
R. A.
Great place, excellent food, friendly and helpful staff very much accommodating
j.
The chips are quality and the burger was delicious (highlights the picklesssss). Poppers were ok.
A. M.
Came here by chance when they first opened a few years ago. Always remembered the delicious perfectly-cooked burgers and went back several times when I lived in Canberra for six months a couple of years ago. Just went back again tonight and they're still great burgers after all this time. Tap beer selection is pretty good too.
C. M.
Excellent burger joint. Burgers are tasty and there are a variety of options. My choice was the smashed burger, with truffle aioli(a new favorite). The fries/chips were also great.
Very busy joint though so you need to be in early or prepared to wait for a table!
B. M.
Good burgers, beers and atmosphere. There is usually a bit of a crowd, but not a long wait - great service all round. Give this place a try if you haven't already!
C. Z.
A stable American style burger and chicken joint, with good beer to go with. Relaxed and easy atmosphere makes it a good family dine out option. Only complaint is that I am no big fan of the thick and sometimes overpowering relish in the cheese burger.
C. W.
Fantastic burger and very friendly staff. I really enjoyed this place.
S. A.
Loved the burgers here and kept going back but now THERE'S PIZZA!!! It's really good bread fluffy but crispy goodness! It's a bit chaotic when you order but hey that's part of the atmosphere! The outdoor area is nice when it's not too cold.
D. L.
Ordered 2 burgers for takeaway from the new store. Collection process was quite good. Realised after getting home that the burgers were not what we ordered.
After contacting Greasy's as per their request below this issue has been resolved in a very satisfactory manner. The original review has been modified to remove statements that are no longer true, and all things considered the service has been very good.
M. B.
We came here because friends of mine living in Canberra told me it was good and it was REALLY GOOD. Authentic burger with soft bread and nice cheese. The meat was just delicious and cooked exactly as I asked (most of places always cook the meat too long according to me, even when I ask them medium rare). And here they cooked it perfectly 👌 Thank you so much 🙏 the fries were also delicious with chili and really crispy.
I. M.
Wonderful atmosphere with a real rustic atmosphere. The high ceilings make for good acoustics and a spacious feel. The food is wonderful with many varied healthy options. Honestly, the type of place I could ride down to and just hang out for the afternoon. Five stars.
C. M. (.
Very overpriced burgers, better going to Burger Hero.
A. M.
Great bar and great atmosphere. The staff on Saturday night were all extremely cheerful and bubbly. The guy in a floral shirt and hat was particularly helpful, and ill forever be grareful. I might even reccomend a raise for him.
I will 100 percent be coming back, god bless grease monkey xx
T.
Buffalo wings and the truffle Mac and cheese bites are must haves! The pizza was a little disappointing as the flavours weren't balanced and the base was underdone, it needed to be crispy. Great atmosphere overall and delicious cider, ginger beer.
T. D.
Good food, burgers are small for their price though meat was less then a centimeter thick.
Ç. G.
One of the decent burger places in town, but I cannot say that it is as good as people praise. The garlic-cheese-mushroom combo was delicious, though. The interior is a bit packed in the smaller part. The cocktails seem to be fine during happy hour. They serve vegetarian burgers as well.
A. G.
Honestly one of the best joints in town for a feed and a beer. THey do amazing pizzas, burgers, wings and sides. Not to mention a great selection of beer. The vibe and atmosphere is perfect for a cute date or catch up with mates after a long day or a long week! You can't go wrong with Grease Monkeys!
R.
We had piazza. It was not bad but we were expecting something special. It was not that good. Sauce on supreme pizza made it taste more like lasagna. Next te if I had no choice but going there I will try burger.
L. P.
Had a delicious burger and beer special on a Tuesday for the unbeatable price of $16. The place was absolutely buzzing on a Tuesday. Surprisingly quick service given how packed it was. Looking forward to coming back and sampling the rest of the menu. Recommend the biscuit burger.
U. M.
The vegan burger was so juicy and flavourful i had to pause to check if they were really vegan. The bun was just too awesome, the right kind of bun that soak up the juice from the vegan burger. Yes who would have thought vegan burger can be juicy. That's definitely not the sad lentil burger patty type. Vegan bacon tasted very much like pepperoni.
B. W.
Very close to a five but my chicken burger (Dirty Bird) was a bit overdone/dry. The beef burger was better. It's a great burger and worth a visit. The chicken wings are far too sweet. Not sure if they have different options other than BBQ; if there are, I wasn't offered them.
J.
Great burgers, fantastic chips and an excellent selection of beer. I highly recommend going if you haven't, especially if you'd like a good burger. Quite possibly the best burgers in the ACT if not further afar. Very busy so I'd recommend checking ahead and there doesn't seem to be heating in-store so dress warmly if it's cold out. Highest recommendation!
J. S.
Was packed when i got there lined up, was told 15 mins got in in 5 mins, Good servings, friendly service, best thick crust pizza iv ever eaten, mac n cheese balls were moist and stretchy cheese and full of flavour, burger was also on point, very impressed.. keep up the good work
J. H. P.
Just like any other bar or pub in Australia, the food was okay, good atmosphere to hang out and drink with friends.
B. H.
Great food and great drinks with a terrific atmosphere. Ordering food via their app from your table is a brilliant idea too.
S. P.
Great vibes and food! The burger was insanely good! And the Detroit style pizza 🍕 Amazing!! Everything was so good that I forgot to take pictures 🤣
G. R.
Excellent hamburgers, really great vibe with great playlist and we got a table so it was easy to enjoy. Chips come with a hot seasoning therefore ask for no seasoning if hot isn't your taste. Good selection of beers and other drinks including milkshakes for kids.
W. F.
Ordered the Double Deluxe on a Tuesday! They have a Tightass Tuesday deal that grants you a free beverage (4 choices at the time) with every burger you purchase. The burger was a touch smaller than I was hoping for but was accompanied by a helpful portion of fries.
Outdoor seating was great with sufficient heating in this cold weather! Staff are friendly and seem very cheerful.
I. L.
Had my 1st visit after being continually recommended to go. We went as a group of 14 for lunch. The burgers are certainly worthwhile! If you are craving a burger in Canberra I suggest doing so. I also wanted to try a shake however had a cider on this visit so cannot rate the shakes at this time. Though reckon they will be tasty.
Y. Y.
Love the food! Chicken wings are the best!!!
Always nice service and atmosphere :)
R. V.
Burgers and Drinks here are really good, the menu is simple but the burgers are tasteful and topped with good stuff. Seating is a bit tight and the outdoor area can be pretty packed so make sure to book in advance. The venue is really well laid out, with a bar inside and booths, seating on stools and the outdoor lined with long tables and benches that are actually comfy.
D. S.
I've been visiting from out of town, have been here twice. First time was okay, second time was very good. It was really busy and my food came out in less than 5 minutes. Burger was delicious, jalapeno poppers are big, and really nice. Washed it down with a pint of a local beer and I'm very satisfied. Hope I can visit one more time before I go home. I recommend the Highway To Hell 😊
B. C.
Very good burgers and beer menu. Quirky but cool fit out in keeping with the buildings mechanical history. Burgers came with a mountain of fries, a few too many really, also the fries were quite spicy, fine for adults but was a bit much for the kids. Music choices not always appropriate for young kids either but apart from those couple of issues, if you want a proper burger, it is very good. Ingredients were of good quality and the bun held up well to the end. The rolls of paper towel on each table are a nice touch, they are needed to wipe the burgers juces off your fingers.
N. B.
Yes. You should eat here. Burgers are delicious, beer selection on tap is good (and rotates). Can't go wrong. A Canberra classic.
E. T.
When you serve patties medium rare as standard it means you have absolute confidence in the quality and freshness of your patties. Excellent burger flavor with the best fries I've received with a burger yet. Ironically not too greasy given the name of the store.
M. B.
Good vibes.. tasty burger.. a bit smaller than expected, but all good things are
D. C. (.
Great burgers & menu - great environment to hang out outside. Definitely would recommend for a casual gathering
M. P.
Great place to eat come here everytime I come to Canberra.
T. J.
Went here 3 times in a week when the menu was extended. Loved it. Smash Test burger is my new favourite but you can't beat a Dirty Bird either. Glad to see they extended and always have sport on.
M. M.
Very tasty pizza. Would thoroughly recommend them.
A. M.
I can't get enough of their greasy bird chicken burger. It has to be the best burger you can get in the city. A bit more pricy than most places, bit totally worth it if you're after a good place to sit and have lunch in Braddon.
S. N.
Fantastic Detroit style deep pan pizzas. I was full after just 2 slices. Fried chicken was good too. They do decent cocktails. Lots of free street parking nearby and close to public transport. Staff are friendly. Lots of tables for groups. I'd dine here again.
G. T.
Best place for burgers if your willing to spend a bit extra. A little pricey but the money is completely worth the meal. Good place for a beer, fried chicken wings or whatever milkshake is the milkshake of the week. Customer service is great with staff being friendly and outgoing. Stylish establishment. Takeaway is a breeze with orders able to be taken over the phone and 10-15 minute waiting times on orders. Worth the money, would recommend to everyone.
D. S.
Best burgers in town. Great brioche buns. Get an extra patty, it's worth it! Chips are seasoned well. Havent tried to chicken but a mate says they're fantastic. Packed everyday so prepare for a little waiting
J. N.
This place is great.
First went in on Monday with the missus and daughter, then came back on Wednesday with the little one, who couldn't get enough of their hot wings.
They have gluten free (not celiac) and vegetarian options.
Great hot wings, as well as deep fried chicken.
My partner loved their vegetarian burger and the Boylan grape Soda they sold (apparently its super-sweetness pairs well with the salty-greasiness of their burgers).
There is seating available inside - at the bar, at tables and stools, or in booths along the wall, or outside with heaters set up to keep you warm.
I had their dirty bird burger with some hot wings on the side. My two year old ate all of the wings, but that doesn't mean they weren't hot.
The food was great, plus they had a good selection of beers.
The service was excellent, everyone was really patient and helpful with our dietary restrictions. I definitely recommend this place.
a. a. l.
The house fried chicken is delicious! The atmosphere is relaxed but sometimes the bar tenders can seem like they literally don't care at all. The kitchen staff are brilliant though. It's a definite must while in Canberra.
L. G.
Hit and miss. Visited twice, both on a Sunday. First time deserved 5 stars, second time 2 stars. Burgers are really good (especially the Dirty Bird), as long as they’re served hot. Chips are worth going back, seasoning reminds me of BBQ chips. Opt for extra sauce on the side, worth the $2 for the massive amount they provide. Staff are too hipster to care about giving good service. Don’t bother expecting them to be attentive or kind, it’s not worth the disappointment.
S. M.
Love this place. They even have a couple of vegan options on the menu! They don't have Chardonnay but they do have pinot grigio so that's ok!! Service was great too.
R. R.
V v hip. Almost too groovy for an old fart like me.
Great beer & cocktail selections, with charming, unfairly handsome staff!🤔
Loved the jalapeno puffs, good burgers, fries.
We were inside, but I reckon outside at a table would be a great place for a fab social catch up or evening session.
Did I mention the beers... good selection. Perhaps dangerously so.
Need to check out other choices next time in Canberra.
J. M.
Service was fast, jalepeno poppers were delicious.
No kids menu or anything catered to kids, brisket was chunky and dry & the Philly cheese steak was kind of bland. Cool vibe for after work drinks and burgs but not catered for families at all.
B. P.
Great value and does exactly what is says, delivers greasy delicious food.
We loved the burgers but had to leave the chips, they were cooked to perfection but covered in a spice that was way too hot for us.
s. r.
Amazing service and fantastic vegan food
R. W.
One of the best burger joints in Canberra. Always a good atmosphere (when dining in is safe). The quality of food is always top notch here.
G. B.
Good burgers - not the best in Canberra, but definitely good. The burgers (especially the basic "Greasy" burger) can be a bit small for the price, but they all come with a side of chips at least. Feels like more of a pub with burgers than a burger joint with beers. Good beer selection. It's usually pretty busy, but not too loud, and a nice place for lunch or dinner and a beer.
L. C.
There's no better burgers!! Their vego burger, the Nimbin, is my favourite vego burger of all time. We stopped back into Canberra after a year of living away and this place has only got better! There's heaps more seating and they do what look to be amazing pizzas now. They give you a very generous side of fries with your burger so you don't need extra sides, but you do wanna slurge the mozzarella sticks and the truffle Mac & cheese bites are both fantastic!
R. P.
Grease monkey does a nice burger. Place can be pretty packed but be patient and watch those tables like a hawk and you'll usually be rewarded. Can always also grab take away and find somewhere nearby and outdoors to enjoy your burger. Tuesday they have a free drink with burger deal but be aware it doesn't apply to the weekly 'special' burger and is limited tap choices (which is not that surprising these days).
D.
We tried the new pizzas they were fantastic
Have eaten here lots of times the food and drinks are alway good.
They handle big groups well.
Every one can do there own orders for food and drinks so no problems with splitting bills later.
Great centeral location.
Lots of bike parking close by.
B. M.
Alright atmosphere. Great home brand lager on tap. Good price for the wings, came with a creamy sauce to balance the heat from the marinade, good value at $7. Also better than Hopscotch down the road; $9 for 6 wings... rip off!
I. S.
Nice burgers, but a bit on the pricey side. Nice casual atmosphere. Some heaters on the outdoor dining area, but still very cold on a Canberra winters day.
C. B.
Had the pulled pork burger & Mrs had the fish burger. Both were excellent! Nice brioche Bun and "dirty" fries (some kind of cajun seasoning) Sunday $10 cocktails too... Watermelon was OK Berry one was excellent... Definitely be back (went back for the dirty bird; very tasty)
B. H.
Crispy yet fluffy thick base pizza! A greasy yet delicious pizza! Definitely the perfect meal over a few coldies or after a big night!
S. J.
It's all about the atmosphere here, centre of the strip, garage feel decor, young crowd, heck they even invested in a dedicated dj, great bass on the sound system I might add. As for the food, I had the greasy burger served with chips and it was really just average. The chips was fried well, crunchy, a nice peppery dusting of flavours, but the burger was so-so. Patty was too thin, nothing too special about the sauce. There are other burger options on the menu so maybe try something else rather than the original greasy burger.
O. C.
Excellent price for the quality of food. Was so good o totally forgot to take a photo of before demolishing it. Really accommodating and friendly staff. We went mid day mid week and it was still busy with a good atmosphere. Not sure how easy it would be to get a seat during peak hours.
Word of caution - not a child friendly place. The loudish music they play creates a real good vibe but swear words are in their plenty.
O. M.
I've been a few times now and tries something different each time. And I'm sure I'll keep coming back, this place has great burgers at a decent price point. You may have to wait a little bit during the rush periods but it's well worth it.
C.
We order from here weekly, we have eaten in store, picked up and gotten food delivered. It's always good!
Service is friendly, although sometimes slow even when they are flat stick, but to be honest I can live with chilling out for a second.
If you ask for something 99% of the time they get it right. I'm a fussy burger guy who adds and removes things so cheers for making it easy. Keep it up! 👌🏾
C. L. (. M. P.
Awesome burgers and fried chicken, and probably the best pizza in the city. I would say that you should try to go there during a quieter time but they don't really exist because of this restaurants well deserved popularity.
A. K.
Some of the best burgers in town! Their house sauces (though come at an extra cost) are a beautiful addition to the meals. Plenty of drinks available at the bar and also have 50 cent chicken wings on offer right now! Screens show different games all day and there's also a nice area to sit outside. Service is a bit slow at times because they take Deliveroo and Uber Eats orders as well.
E. S.
The Dirty Bird Burger is a must. And the chips are the best in that area. Got it delivered this time around, but have walked past the shop many times, and always has great music and vibes.

Well, i came here for a catch up with mate's.
The burger.... delicious. I had the greasy. Simple, but exactly what i needed.
My friends had the dirty bird. I was slightly jealous.
My only gripe was the complete lack of service at the bar.
It was not like the place was jumping busy... i dont think 3 patrons requiring refreshment busy....
When there are 3 hipster bartenders assessing our need to be refreshed...
Apparently i was wrong.
G. N.
Excellent. Really tasty food and happy cheery staff too. Perfect burgers and chips on a cool afternoon. We will be back for sure, but might ride next time :-D
A. N.
Great burgers really well priced and gluten free options! Definitely going back to this place! If you really like burgers and get out regularly ask them about their rewards program. Great place for a burger and beer with friends after work
J. O.
Very busy. Nice food, lots of seating. It gets quite noisy. Prices are reasonable. Tuesday offer of a free beer with a burger makes it better value.
J. C.
Fun place, vibrant, friendly and noisy. My only issue is with the brioche buns they use for the burgers, which deflate as soon as you take a bite. My advice is to go for the gluten-free bun, which is a bit more solid. The fillings and sides are delicious.
E. D.
Great value, always super consistent, awesome selection of drinks and cocktails and most importantly delicious burgers.
B. J. (.
Great burgers, great beer, great fitout and location (Canberra's Braddon, doing its best impersonation of Melbourne).
Great company too .... though YMMV on that one. I just happened to be meeting an awesome friend, and his new squeeze.
d. p.
Busy most days all day. The beers and the food here is reasonably priced. The fried chicken is as good as youll have in most places and the burgers are fairly good. The outdoor area is often crowded so booking ahead is a good idea at busy periods. They have a decent selection of cider and othe drinks if you arent a beer person.
S. B.
Overpriced. Nice enough burger ("Full Service"), but in no way justifies the $23 price tag. Certainly nothing exceptional. Definitely some creative use of scale and perspective on the website pictures eh guys? Won't be rushing back.
S. G.
Nice food, nice place, prices OK.
L. G.
Is there a better burger place in Canberra? I would say no. The food, drinks list and atmosphere is amazing. Always have super friendly staff that makes it feel like your local.
B. W.
I really like the burgers here but they are not cheap for what you get. I can only justify going once a month as they are unique enough that you cant get the same thing elsewhere.
Atmosphere is good and there is a lot of outdoor seating.
Prices are still up there but have recently taken a cut so they are not as bad as they once were.
l. w.
So good! Awesome atmosphere, delicious food! Great deals definitely recommend! p.s. Come on a Tuesday because if you buy a burger you’ll get a free drink!
H.
So so good. This place has the best burgers I've ever had in my life. Didn't take too long to come out, was hot and fresh.
It's a bit expensive but ut was very much with it. Chips were seasoned and delicious.
This establishment is fantastic
🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟
S.
Great atmosphere and yummy food. We had a few plates of the snacks with a few sneaky beers. Have been on each occasion to Canberra and will probably return for the relaxed comfortable vibe. Friendly attentive bar staff.
K. L.
I like the atmosphere and their burgers are good.
I can't remember what the name of it was, but their smash burger with the mushrooms and truffle mayo is AWESOME 👌🏽🤤
b.
best Detroit style pizza in Canberra. Contintal a fave, would recommend to anyone else travelling to Canberra
L. R.
Burger is good but don’t expect the chips are crispy when they are busy. If they fry the chips very crispy it would be perfect.
K. S.
The best hamburgers.. good value for the price!
L. R.
Best burgers in Canberra. This joint is always crowded so book ahead if you’re in a big group. I recommend going on Tuesdays to get the free drink with your burger.
S. M.
If you're in the mood for a greasy burger or wings then this place is for you. I went there while I was visiting my girlfriend in Canberra. I must say that I had an amazing time at Grease monkey. As soon as my girlfriend an I walked in we were welcomed with a warm smile, the customer service was really good while ordering our food. It didn't take long until our drinks were delivered to our tabel, the food followed soon after. To be completely honest, I wasn't expecting much from a place called 'Grease Monkey' the food presentation wasn't anything special. The food taste itself was beyond amazing! My first bite into the burger really took me by surprise! Now I'm not gonna go into too much details since I wasn't even planning on doing a review on this place. On my next visit I'll do a proper review with pics.
D.
Went there for a work function, and they were Awesome!!! They got our pre-orders out on the exact time we requested. Their burgers are Delicious!!! Their selection of beers is spot on! Their service is magnificent!! This is truly an awesome place to go if you are a fan of burgers and beer!!!
A. J.
This is one of my top 3 food destinations in Canberra. (I can't actually pick one favourite.)
Their pulled port burger (the Pitt Stop) blows my mind every time I take that first bite. Every. Time!
Each and every one of their sides are amazing and I always struggle to chose between them. (Special mention to their fried chicken and jalapeno poppers.)
Putting the food aside, they have a great selection of drinks. And the staff have always been welcoming.
Their beer garden has a retractable roof which makes dining outside always an option no matter the weather.
All this put together creates an amazing atmosphere. I love Grease Monkey so much and I can not sing it's praises loud enough.
B. W.
Great selection of beers. Juicy burgers and perfect fries. Will be stopping in here again any time I am in the ACT. Great for kids. Staff even made sure to give us plain fries without the spice on them for the little ones.
B. F.
Tasty food - would have much preferred to be able to sit down to eat the meal but booked out due to Covid restrictions. Take away menu same price as sit down which made take away burgers a bit exxy but food was good and in present conditions beggars can't be choosers - we needed to eat.
P. B.
The place is amazing the greaser burger was good but real small
J. S.
Every time I've ordered takeaway something odd happens. The last three times it was either wrong food, missed food or its been ready for ages before the pick up time and is stone cold. But it's so delicious that I keep going back like a bug to a bug zapper. Fool me twice shame on you; fool me thrice shame on me.
A.
I’ve enjoyed every burger/pizza I’ve ever ordered at Grease Monkey. There’s a really fun selection of drinks, and the staff dress very cool, very handsome, I like it!
F. R.
Great food, fast service, we've been there with boisterous small children and felt welcome. This is definitely a firm favourite in Canberra.
However just note they don't have change tables in the toilets or high chairs, which doesn't bother us but might others.
N. C.
Delicious dinner, good beer, spicy chips. Chocolate brownie dessert is recommended.
J. W.
Facilities were very nice. Recommended to go here by a friend, but found the food very fatty and greasy. If very greasy food suits your body, it is quite yummy and filling, however, if your body doesn't bode too well with greasy foods, steer clear, because there is a lot of it
L. G. (.
Since their expansion, grease monkey has really lifted their game 👌
G. C.
Good food, beers and atmosphere
L. m.
Good venue for a get together , burgers and pizza , beer on tap, happy hours
D. M.
Good beers on tap, that rotate quite regularly, and the wine list is interesting. There are also fancy beers in the fridge, but you pay a premium for those. The real draw though are the hamburgers and fried chicken; both of which are top tier for Canberra. Best of all, there's a monthly special hamburger, which gives you a lot of variety, and has featured some real gems. The Parmageddon is a recent favourite, which I hope makes a return. Greasy but good!
E. B.
Very tasty GF burger bun and I didn't get sick! They kindly replaced the chips (they're fried in the same vat as gluten products) with a very generous serve of coleslaw. Will definitely be back when in Canberra.
K. H.
Waited way too long to try Grease Monkey but damn was I pleasantly surprised! The burger taste was extraordinary, light and fluffy bun with a delicious tomato relish. The chip seasoning was also a stand out; the portion size was bigger than most other establishments. $15 bucks for a standard burger and chips which I see as good value (seems to be a buck or 2 cheaper than grill'd but better value for money). The 'Greasy' burger size is reasonable but not huge so if hungry go for the 'full service' or 'double deluxe'.
Service is very bar style so find a table, order at the bar, then a short wait for your food.
5 stars for me; definitely will return soon!
A.
Love the burgers at Greaseys. The soft bun, superbly cooked meat and tasty sauces. This is a family favourite with my kids downing the burgers and chips. I'd highly recommend the habanero mayonnaise to go with the delicious chips. The indoor seating is sparse so get N early during the cold months.
D. D.
Cheap and cheerful happy hour - hard to go past $5 house spirits (mon-fri, 4-6pm). Casual and happy atmosphere, good spot to watch the world go by and unwind from a hectic work day.
J. X.
A great pub with a hip and warm atmosphere that'll drag you in for either its large selection of beers and lagers or for its great pub grub.
Expect to be greeted by friendly youthful staff and the food to be typical of a pub; one with a no-nonsense chef. The burger and fries I ordered had the taste and weight to hit the spot after a long day at work.
Well equipped for Winter, if there isn't space inside, the courtyard is littered with gas heaters and enclosed with transparent plastic sheeting to keep that precious warmth in.
Young and old will feel comfortable coming here for a laugh, a feed and a beer to follow it down.
K.
Oh my gosh. This place has some of the best burgers in Canberra. Enjoy a burger with a quiet ale, grab some sides and make a real meal of it. If you really want to treat yourself through, have the Mac'n'cheese bites. They are everything that Mac'n'cheese should be in a bite sized morsel. SO GOOD. Would definitely recommend
B.
honestly my favourite burger place in Canberra, which is saying a lot because canberra cooks up a good burger. the burgers are a great size & full of flavour! be prepared for a bit of grease but a burger that's delicious & doesnt disappoint. theyve just expanded too so there's plenty of places to sit & the food is speedy for a place that is often fairly packed! honestly my number one place in the act for a killer burger! thanks guys
J. W.
Took a weekend trip to Canberra. I’ve heard a lot of stuff about this place. The burgers were pretty good. The place gets pretty busy and you wait a while, but definitely a good feed.
E. L.
Good beer and nice vibe.
J. D.
Consistently good, having been many times. Good for a lunch meet up during the week, as well as booking a table for celebrations or drinks with friends. Can get very busy at night on certain days so make sure to get in early if you're going for dinner with a small group. However you can also sit in the beer garden next door at Catch fish n chips, which also allows flexibility if some of your group want fish n chips or poke. Tuesday is a winner with the free drink deal. They also do a monthly special burger each for a limited time. For first timers, you can't go wrong with the Greasy burger. Good selection of drinks at the bar incl regional beers and wines.
D. P.
Nice place to grab dinner with friends, large tables and quick service.
The fish and chip shop next door shares the same seating, so if someone in your group doesn't want burgers you have plenty of options.
A. D.
Top burgers. The lot is pretty fantastic, but the pulled pork is quite good if you're feeling like something a bit different. Also a decent range of beers. Make sure to come on a Tuesday when you get a free schooner of anything on tap with your burger.
M. F.
Absolutely top notch, good beer and cocktail selection and a fantastic food menu, Detroit Style pizzas are amazing.
m. y. a.
Hospitality service was very good, quick and friendly. Food was great and delicious. Not pricey with a big portion. I really recommended this place to those looking for something worth their pocket money.
S. D.
It’s expensive but that doesn’t affect my star rating. You don’t have to go if you can’t afford it!
I ordered the Philly Cheese Steak which comes on a roll. The meat and cheese was all bunched up on one spot making it harder than necessary to eat.
It is fantastic food to eat before, during or after drinking piss. That is to say it’s not healthy but is tasty and salty.
D. H.
Good burgers & service! Jalapeno poppers were very good according to my boyfriend... Truffle & Parmesan fries were a tad of a letdown as couldn't taste Truffle at all, but overall a fun dining experience!
A. C.
Good beer selection. Burgers are tasty. Often busy and can be difficult to find a seat. Friday happy hour from 4 - 6pm although it is unclear which beers are included.
J. Z.
Great food, good staff. Nice little place
R. W.
The deep dish pizza is AMAZING. Burgers are great. Buffalo wings are surprisingly good (7/10 which is a good score).
Atmosphere is modern and funky.
P. H.
Suit the Braddon hipster set easily. Used to have a fantastic Fish & Chips restaurant attached but has ditched that for American style burgers and pizza w a Braddon twist. Food was good but flavour OD on pretty much everything.
R. S.
The food was amazing.
Staff were friendly and efficient.
I only had to wait a few minutes for my order. It was really quick.
I'll definitely be coming back here again.
S. M.
Great burgers and seasoned fries, and don't forget to order extra greasy sauce. A bit pricey but the quality of the food makes up for it. Well worth the visit.
L. X.
Most amazing pizza I've ever had!
T. S.
Good service from a friendly crew.😃 Great burger😃. Wish the chips were hot😔.
B. N.
Food and drinks were fine, but it was super loud. It'd probably depend on what time you go, but between the music and crowd it was impossible to have a conversation with the people I was with. Still, the music and atmosphere was good otherwise.
M. K.
Good place, good basic burger and pizza type food. Friendly staff. Sometimes it takes a while to order when it is busy, so you might find yourself waiting in the line at the bar to order food.
N. M.
Great burger and beer. Nice garden to leisurely eat and drink. A Canberra must.
T. M.
Good burgers and a great selection of beers
B. H.
Best burger joint in Canberra for sure . Haven't had a bad experience , burgers are good size and well priced with chips, large area as well
G. G.
Decent flavours in the burgers but the patties are tiny (I reckon only about 150g pre-cook weight). Atmosphere is pretty good too. Third favourite burger place in Canberra.
R. I.
Pretty decent burgers. Jalapeño poppers are a good find. The topping on the chips is also good. And great dirty fried bird. Beer selection was good albeit expensive but they always are these days.
R. M.
Burger Hero is better portion sizes and value for money. I think they've started cost cutting which is unfortunate. This was my go-to previously.
S.
Best burger in Australia. No competition. Cannot recommend this place enough.
L. B.
Great burgers. Love the hot wings and dipping sauce. Went with friends for farewell drinks and they were great at catering for big crowds. Plenty of seats. And open on a Monday night. Love it
J. W.
Delicious burgers!! I thought the fried chicken tasted very similar to KFC though, alittle over priced but overall a good expirience
K. s. g. w.
The men's toilet splashes when the water is clearing the waste, all the way until it's stopped running. It is absolutely disgusting. That being said, the burgers are the bomb, drinks are great (but too expensive) and it has good seating where the punters can turn over pretty quick. Not a bad place to start a night, have a nice meal with friends, even a good location for a relaxed date.
I. G.
Pretty average burgers for the price you pay. We've visited a couple of times hoping it will improve, but it hasn't. There's nothing really wrong with the food, just super overpriced for what you get.
d. p.
Good tap craft beers and food. The pizzas here are great to share and definitely a good option. They have aditional locations in Canberra so are a good option for a meal.
S. B.
Good service. Great food. Had the Grease burger which is the basic cheese burger and it was extremely tasty. The jalapeño poppers were nice too. Would recommend.
B. B.
Freaken delicious! Great selection of craft beers ($5 pints for happy hour!) and the best burger I've had in a loooooong time. Cool decor, cool music, cool staff; definitely on the must-do list for Canberra.
K. M.
Great food with an excellent variety on offer. Fast and excellent service given it was a busy Friday night. Obviously a popular place in the city. We even went back for more on Saturday.
A.
Always excellent burgers! Very friendly staff. And good tap beer options.
n.
The burger was good but so soggy that it disintegrated in my hands when I picked it up. Chips were spicy and this was not mentioned anywhere. Awesome beer but overall too pricy for the products and the service received.
H. Y.
Food n drinks are amazing specially deluxe double beef burger, recommended, only seating need thin people 🤣🤣🤣😀😀
J. V.
Awesome burgers and my son rates the fries 10/10. $20 well spent. Plenty of space during Covid.
I. T.
highly recommend the Pitt Stop, juicy messy pulled pork goodness.
A. N.
Great pizza, good atmosphere. Service was good, you need to get your own plates etc from the area where they leave them for the customers. Parking isn't too bad near by.
G. M.
The food is amazing especially the burgers
The waiting situation isn’t even tho we didn’t wait for long time the guy at the door told us there’s no reservations and u could be waiting for 50 min and we should be waiting in the restaurant.. but eventually we waited for less than 15 min
M. R.
Good food. The fried chicken is pretty much a replica of KFC. Literally.
There were lots of flies inside and outside of this place, something that bothered me. But don't get me wrong, it was clean.
B. W.
Great vibe, tasty burgers, super friendly staff and helpful with dietary requirements.
L. C.
The food is AWESOME!!! The best burgers we have ever had and the Mozzarella Sticks were so fresh and tasty. You won't be disappointed 😁
D. F.
Burger was pretty good, but I wish the patty was pink in the middle. 5 stars for the chicken. Ridiculously good fried chicken, best I've had. Plus good beers.
V. G.
The burgers never disappoint. The 3 hour drive to canberra from Sydney is always worth it when you eat at this awesome spot in Braddon.
S. O.
Overpriced burgers, flat buns, small patties. Taste was good though. Only worth coming on Tuesdays to get a free beer with your meal.
T. A.
Food was amazing even for a vegetarian.....Service was quick and friendly....There was a bit of a wait for a table but the wait was definitely worth it. Will definitely come back here next time I'm in Canberra!
M. S.
Amazing food! Great atmosphere too. The burgers were all really good and the meat lovers pizza was awesome
C. W.
Staff were friendly and food was good (not too greasy) bbq sauce on pizza was amazing
N. P.
Burgers nearly always excellent. Mac and cheese bites always delicious.
Only negative I can think of is that the bartender had to be coached in making a White Russian and had never seen The Big Lebowski. I explained at the time that this was unacceptable and he must watch it.
K.
Good selection of beers on tap and the staff are friendly and pleasant. What lets this place down is the price. I mean i can honestly say i can get better burgers at my local takeaway for literally half the price. I ordered the fried chicken burger, was pre dissapointed that the chicken in the burger tasted like it had the temperature and texture of a piece of chicken that had been cooked and left to stand for about 10-15 minutes before being served (to save time i know a lot of things need to be pre cooked before assembly but at the prices that are charged here everything should be made to order, especially fried chicken). I really liked the jãlapeno poppers which were piping hot. The side of chips served with the burger is massive. Think twice before ordering sides as the burger and chips is very filling. Place is a bit echo-y a bit of carpet on the ceiling would dampen that out. Seems to be the watering hole of the pubes but aye, tastey food tbh. I'd head here with buddies for a casual albiet pricey meal. Pretty trendy. I like grease monkey but the price keeps me from coming back often.
T. (. P. C.
Greese Monkeys offers some nice and unique beers, ciders and other alcoholic gems. I personally enjoyed the alcoholic root beer and some of the red IPAs they had on offer.
The food is pretty good too, the fried chicken and potato and gravy is probably my favorite. Its like KFC chicken but trendy and its tastes so much better with beers. They also make burger that seem to change in quality, but overall I believe they are nice.
The venue is nice with a couple of big TVs playing sports in the background. They have an outdoor shadded terrace and some booth seats onside.
Definitely worth a visit
J. F.
Absolutely awesome .. food 5 stars .. staff wonderful.. very popular with the locals.. nice outdoor area, that is a cool retreat from the hot days..also has a fish and chip shop, takes bookings.. finding a parking spot was difficult.. perhaps some suggestions for those out of town about where parking is close by? .. but will go back every time we visit..
D. M.
My only complaint - and it's vital enough to warrant a docked star - is that the dough for their Detroit pizza is nowhere near thick enough. The sauce, toppings, and cheese are on the nose, it's just the crust needs to be thicker and chewier!
G. M.
Don't let anyone offer another suggestion, I've been on the hunt for the best burger in Canberra and grease monkey is hands down the best contender so far. Even the infamous brodburger wasn't as fresh or tasty as these fine burgers.
M. R. (.
Great burgers. Undercover outdoor seated area or indoor American-style bar and booths. Helpful staff and prompt service. Will put NBA games on big screen on request.
B. C.
These are damned good burgers, no joke. Had a bit of a moment when I first tried them out, they're juicy, packed with flavor and just fantastic.
S. W.
Please note, 3 stars is from SnobbyWog1 who is easily pleased by a deep dish. SnobbyWog2 had soup burger (pulled pork) and argues this deserved 1 star ( but agrees the perfectly cooked Detroit pizza was heavenly).
Very grateful for the woman in shiny leggings who accosted SnobbyWog1 whilst eating and destroyed his ego and called him a "6.5"/10.
Thanks Grease Monkey we'll be back for your pizza!
SW1 & SW2 x
B.
Food is priced well and tastes amazing, very casual atmosphere, not a fancy joint as such but nice none the less. Beer is expensive because it's non-standard, they have a great selection to choose from if you're into real beers
H.
They sell food. It tastes good. Atmosphere is fine. Service can be slow if busy.
M. L.
This place comes with a big reputation and I have to say, it has to depend on your tastes.
It wasn't to mine. The soft sweet bread is not my choice for burgers and the greens didn't seem as fresh as what you get from the competition.
D. R.
Pretty good burger option in Canberra. Probably the best for American style burgers, and the wings are excellent too. Treat myself to the Boylan Cream Soda every time.
S. R.
Great burgers and service. The jalapeno poppers are huge and have great fluffy batter. A nice change to the usual batters you find on them.
D. T.
Try the Vegan burger - I love their meat burgers but I liked the vegan burger even more. Also friendly staff, decent beers on tap, and dog friendly (outside)
