L. H.I've never stayed in a backpackers place before so I wasn't sure what to expect. If I could give this place a million stars I would..the management are unbelievabley friendly kind and treat everyone with respect. The room is clean fresh towels sheets whenever you want,toilets and showers immaculately clean multiple time a day, and kitchen and fridges so immaculately clean. Its like a family atmosphere so caring. There's been a few bad customers and quickly removed. Of course they leave bad reviews. I feel so safe here I would recommend anyone who needs somewhere safe and secure to come here. The other backpackers seem to let anyone in them dealers and addicts seem to thrive in the other place but here zero tolerance of drugs and bad behaviours. Whenever I’ll come back to Brisbane I will definitely stay at summerhouse again. The have good value rooms are starting at $20
P. O.Very affordable option. You can use the kitchen, washing machines and toilets that are shared. Interiors need some fix... Some stuffs are just falling out not managed so well. If you are looking for somewhere to stay in city for short time, everything is just fine. What I like about this place is that there are some creativity in hidden places and gave me some chance of socialising, so yeah, your experience might depend on who are checked in when you are here.
C. A.This place was great, I stayed here a couple of weeks I believe. I stayed in the cheapest dorm which probably wasn't the best idea as no one literally ever shut the hell up. I got in the little corner area and that was good because I could at least turn the light off. But expect to get them turned on again continuously until about 2am.
The place itself was nice though - they had a TV room and a rooftop area which made me feel ontop of the world up there. They gave free breakfast which was just fantastic when you're a backpacker. People seemed friendly enough also, the reception staff were lovely too. I lost my key once and had to pay but they were nice about it. I still cannot figure out where that went. I would definitely stay here again - smaller dorm next time though :).
M. R.Great price, very comfortable beds and good location. However the people staying in the hostel were not friendly at all. I walked into my room and no one even said hi or looked at me. The room was extremely cramped, I didn’t even have space to put my bag because the long term stays took all the space available. When I checked in the girl didn’t mention I had to bring down all my sheets when checking out. The kitchen is extremely small.
J. S.Very friendly and helpful staff. Normal prices for 4 and 10 bed rooms. I found the beds to be comfortable and rooms are clean. Solid lockers are provided. The public bathroom (men) is fine, however in a 4-bed room the sinks were ridiculously small. Additionally, and this might be petty, the AC is too cold and the lights way too bright. There are plenty of events provided, mostly either food or a tour. The free breakfast is quite nice (consists of toast + PB & J or cornflakes) All in all I would recommend this place!
B.Genuinely a home away from home.
I cannot understate how incredible this place truly is. I planned on staying for a few weeks and ended up finally leaving after 7 weeks (and could have happily stayed far longer if it wasn't for the wet season starting soon).
The people really do make the place and I couldn't have been luckier to have been around a better group of people - including every single person who worked there also. Hats off to everyone who made this place the place it is.
In terms of the actual facility;
- Very clean (including well kept toilets)
- Really nice pool & lounge area
- Beach volleyball
- Bar (cheap food & drinks)
- TV room (including another separate TV/chill area)
- Nice mix between people partying and relaxing (it was well known that I often went to bed early - and by well known I mean the hostel joke lol - and was never unable to get a good nights sleep yet there was always plenty of opportunity for drinking and going out also).
- Most importantly though, probably the most social hostel I've ever stayed in.
If you're staying in Cairns I honestly could not recommend Summer House more.
D. g.Staff were friendly, and dorm was clean, but a little too cramped. Bathroom was not really big enough for the number of people there, kitchen was also too small, and constantly in use, so hard to find space to cook. Good atmosphere though, and some free activities or meals everyday.
T. S.Good hostel, stayed in a 4 bed ensuite which was clean and had comfortable beds. Only stayed for 1 night, so I can't give much feedback. But the hostel seemed nice with all the necessities available (unlimited free wifi). Only downside is that the kitchen wasn't that big and the seating area neither. Crowded during breakfast (which is free). Overall, pleasant stay.
S. C.A little cramped but the beds are comfy, the people are friendly especially the staff they’re all very sweet. Basically exactly what I expected a youth hostel to be like. Stayed in female 8 bedroom, lockers are spacious, ensuite bathroom is small but all 8 of us got through it no problem. Lovely place, would recommend
T. T.Hostel staff were really great, they helped me out whenever I had questions. I really enjoyed the free activities and the other guests in the place were really nice. The building was close to the CBD and bus way/trains. Coles is across the road which was great however no Aldi close to town. Management were real nice and the price was reasonable. Would stay again.

D. K.Very nice place with a unique feeling inside, street art on the walls etc. Feels much less stiff and more relaxed than many other hostels. Quite cheap, and free breakfast in the morning + free coffee the whole day which is very good! Also a rooftop with good view. Clean house and free wifi as well.
F. M.Great view from the rooftop on the Brisbane’ river and skyscrapers, nice and friendly staff and great organisation. Very comfortable for the one’s who carries heavy luggages, most of the biggest rooms are on the ground floor. For me was really comfortable because I was always lucky and my rooms was on ground floor, so it means that I didn’t need to carry my heavy luggage on the stairs (no elevator). Inside the building there is also a Peter Pan travel agency where you can organise your amazing trip across Australia.

K. S.Clean rooms, we were in the 4 bed female dorm with private bathroom which was good, although toilet was a bit smelly! Kitchen facilities were fine. Didn't have the free breakfast as had to leave early, before it was set up. WiFi in rooms but no individual light by the bed which is very annoying.
K. S.Summer House is nice, but in my opinion not as perfect as everyone makes it out to be. The location isn't great, the WiFi can be slow to nonexistant and a single bathroom with one shower, toilet and sink is too little for eight people in the morning. On top of that our room was uncomfortably warm (in winter) and we couldn't do anything about it since the air con temperature is fixed and the windows wouldn't open. The kitchen and communal areas are too small and crowded. The rooftop area is more of a large balcony, it's only a small area.
The only good thing in this hostel is that there are lockers for every single person in the rooms (buy your own locks or rent them), and the free breakfast (watch out for massive crowds). Apart from that this hostel is average at best, or below that.
You'd think that in a large city with much competition, hostels would be better.
M. N.The room is smelly, no window, no fresh air, AC is also so weak! The air in the room is really bad.
And starting from the second day, I saw they are trying to make a environment better. The staffs are cleaning the house everyday. However, for the room without window is really not easy to find a way to improve it.

Laundry, Wifi, Everyones are from Europe. This is my first expruenced backpacker house and the Best backpacker house. Staffs are great. I paid for 25 dollars for 1 day. Oh..and.. everyday, they have night event for 5 dollars. You can join that party after 5 dollars paid.
H.A cheap place to crash at for a few days. Really good value for money if you dont mind sharing accoms with a lot of people. Really friendly staff who are willing to help. Would recommend for the travelling backpacker
