I've stayed here a few times, and most recent travel was with a group. Staff were excellent and very helpful. Rooms were generally clean, but I might have had really poor luck this time. The bedside tables had a noticeable layer of dust. Our room unfortunately had a multitude of tiny insects on the ceiling, and also plagued the bathroom (6 dead moths next to the tap in the morning). Had a very uncomfortable rash and itch after using the bath towel as well. It is worth mentioning that parking on the Belmore Gardens side is considered very unsafe. We were notified of several car break-ins and discouraged from parking there. Otherwise, the location is very convenient for getting around Canberra.

Very nice place, charming building, beautiful garden. Our room was pretty big with a nice view and comfortable bed. A bottle of water in a fridge would be nice after a hot day in Canberra.

Really comfortable, clean Hotel, very quiet and the staff were ŕhe nicest. The gym is AMAZING for a hotel. I would have taken off 1/2 star as there was a bit of a damp smell which did lessen after we opened the windows (so much incessant rain) I gave back the 1/2 star because my wife swears she saw a ghost! BONUS POINTS!

The Brassey hotel has a restrained old world elegance coupled with immaculate presentation and excellent staff. It's my go-to hotel for Canberra stays. It's bit like staying at a club. Low stress and all your needs catered for in a quiet park like location with handy access to the city and sights of Canberra.
T. F.
well-maintained historic hotel in a quiet part of the city within walking distance of parliament, the national gallery, and questacon, great value for money, rooms are clean and nicely furnished, counter staff are friendly and helpful, can't ask for more really
C. W.
We stayed only one mid week night. The room was nice, large & the bedding was very comfortable. The lights in the room were too dim. We were woken by fly in/fly out workers at 4.55, banging doors, showering etc. We were on the top (2nd floor), which involved a few flights of stairs, no lift to be seen. No breakfast available in that hotel. I thought it was a bit expensive for what we got.

Lovely accommodation and central location. Even had its own signature scent..☺️

Review based on Standard room
Good points:
Clean room, smelt like the carpet had just been steamed cleaned.
Friendly Reception
Good Location, close to Kingston foreshore
Hot water pressure in shower
Got a special rate so paid well under advertised rate + bonus voucher for use on mini bar
The bed oh so comfy
Low points:
Noise from corridor can be heard from room
Some mould around bottom of shower and tiles on floor
Small room with only a small space to walk between bed and tv cabinet. Limited room to put suitcases
Didn't use the gym but it looked like it was very solid and new setup if you need to get your fitness fix.
For the price I paid I think it was ok. I think I would have been disappointed if I had paid more.

What a pleasant stay! Great hotel for those who want to stay in a quiet area. Loved the posh neighbourhood, and yet only walking distance to both city centre and dining area such as Kingston.
Very comfortable bed, hot shower with plenty of water, schick interior design, good quality amenities. Definitely recommended.

A charming heritage hotel from Canberra’s distant past - I always enjoy staying here, it is my go to place when in Canberra
J. R.
The hotel has an old school charm to it with Very comfy beds. Clean, spacious rooms. Quiet. Staff were friendly and helpful. Not enough parking though so that’s why only 4 stars.
J. A.
A great character radiates from this historic hotel. Very spacious rooms, and super comfortable beds. The hotel is generally quiet except for some very loud rattling water pipes at 6am.
P. C.
Spacious room. Place is old, needs update. Staff were great.
K. M.
We had a lovely stay at Brassey Hotel. The staff were very accomodating when I asked if the second room I booked could have two single beds rather than a queen bed, which we appreciated. The rooms were very clean and the beds so comfortable! Would recommend, just a caution that the car park is shared with the gym/Pilates studio so does get full but there is street parking nearby.
W. M.
Great gym and spa. Beds are far too soft, and the first night got next to no sleep, as staff were still clomping around and dragging furniture at 2am. Convenient for restaurants on Kingston Foreshore.
J. J.
It was very clean, some staff were friendly, while others laughed at myself being disabled, and the fact that the tv was broken the whole 3 days. This is not a child friendly, motel! Nor is it very disabled friendly, the rooms are quite squashed, not even room for a walking frame. And a step into the shower. If you are a able body person it is a beautiful motel.
M. A.
Wonderful clean and spacious rooms and bathrooms, Great to stay for a family, nice clean bathrooms and toilets, clean n smell free towels, small fridge and other necessary amenities. Ample car parking space is available. Wonderful location to stay in the heart of the city, close to the embassy enclave, market n other important locations. Very good price for all the facilities offered. Pleasant and well trained staff, plenty of options to choose from for the breakfast, memorable travel experience. Highly recommended for stay, you have to try it to experience it...!😇
M. D.
Very nice hotel, bedroom good and bed was fantastic, very comfy and slept like a log all night. Very impressed.
Bathroom was good too with good amount of towels and toiletries provided complimentary. Will be coming back again
M.
Charming tudor mansion aesthetic, front desk was quite disorganised at check in but overall they had obliged to my requests, the room itself was clean and spacious, bed comfy, real windows allowing fresh air, ample parking, and walking distance to the places I needed to go to.
V. S.
Elegant and convenient choice for family members to stay. Always happy.
J. J.
We were originally in a room on the ground floor. The heating didn't work at all so reception upgraded us. Staff extremely helpful and friendly. Rooms are comfortable but decor is tired and dated. The shower in room 370 which was our upgraded one needs looking at. The water is either scalding hot or icy cold. It took forever to get a temperature that was tolerable to shower in. If you like fancy sleek bathrooms and amenities this is not the hotel for you. It is however lovely and quiet and our bed was very comfortable. To be honest, i think for what you get, the price for rooms here is a little overpriced.
H. C.
Great facilities for someone on a business trip. The on site gym is well equipped and the rooms are spacing and comfortable. The beds are incredibly soft and the showers are super hot and strong. I had a room that looked into the front parking lot and this meant that I had a fairly strong light streaming through my curtains all night. This wasn't too annoying, but I would have preferred not to have it. Tea and coffee making is rudimentary in the rooms but you can get a adequate coffee in the lobby. They also have snacks there too.
C. P.
Nice hotel from the outside, but very tired in the inside. Old and sad interior with less than normal bathroom and wardrobe space. People nice, but wouldn’t book again
A. M.
Clean and comfortable beds. All good congrats.
G. W.
It is a beautiful building, in quiet, lovely surroundings. Best hotel bed I have slept on ever (YMMV). Free coffee, nice balcony to sit on, AC not the quietest, but it worked fine, the whole place is maybe a little dim and dark, but that is just the nature of the beast. My wife said the gym was great (I was too busy sleeping). We loved it, and this is our new place to stay in Canberra.
l.
I love the spa. Their treatment needs are comfortable especially if you suffer from lower back pain. I highly recommend the signature facial.
T. M.
Stayed here in late January, found it to be in a very handy location to shops and restaurants in ***uka. The room was of a generous size and even had a mini study room for reading & writing with a wardrobe for storing your clothes. I found …
S. S.
Love staying here. The team are very accommodating. Would recommend for a business trip or for a quick getaway. The location is serene but close enough to the Kingston and Manuka restaurants.
D. C.
This hotel certainly has character...
The exterior facade is beautiful as with the landscape around the establishment.
The room I had felt really dated and in need of some renovation. The lighting was dim and made the whole place feel gloom.
I am not a fan of carpeted floors in hotel rooms as they look dirty and this was the case at the Brassy, compared to some other hotels that had carpet and looked clean. In addition they did not provide slippers like they do in the other Doma group hotels (Little Nat, Realm, Burbury).
The bed itself whilst comfortable was two single beds joined together so you had the gap in the middle that you roll into.
The shower itself had a stainless steel basin which I felt looked out of place but appreciated for it's cleanliness. My other work colleagues had issues with the hot water where it didn't get to temp for a long time. The issue I had was that turning the cold water ever slightly made the water turn freezing cold, so it took finesse to get it right.
C. O.
Were thrilled to be told we were upgraded to a deluxe room. Smallest deluxe room I've ever seen. Beds were comfy, some nice features and decor. Cleaning in the bathroom could have been better..marks on the stool in the shower. Wouldn't like to see the standard room
K. C.
Decent hotel in Canberra. The hotel has unique antique style building and nice lobby, the room is a bit too old. The room is wide and comfortable, but the bathroom is too tiny comparing to its size. The fitness center is filled with nice and hi-tech equipment.
A. C.
Stayed here twice on business trips and enjoyed both stays. The gym is free for all guests to use and the business centre (Hotel Realm business centre is under renovation) at Little National Hotel (more of a modern co-working space) is light-filled and very pleasant. Great staff too - Dave was very friendly, helpful and professional
F. Y.
Had to edit my review and change from four to five stars. I have not experienced such a professional handling of issues by a hotel as what I experienced with Brassey's staff. The hotel is very good as I've stayed there before. But I was about to stay again, however had to cancel the booking due to bushfires. Even though the room was non refundable, they still charged nothing for the cancellation. So, in short, I was really impressed how they managed the issue as well as kept me updated on the fire and smoke situation.
J. H.
Positive- Location is superb!. Staff are friendly & efficient special mention to Natya. Room was very spacious, clean & comfortable bed.
Negative- Pool in Brassey was not accessible to guest. I had to walk to another building to use the pool.
E. A.
Located in a pretty part of Canberra, this hotels looks warm and inviting on the outside but it has seen better days on the inside.
Don’t get me wrong, the rooms are comfy and clean. But it really is just serving the fly in fly out crowd with minimal service and perks.
No room service, no restaurant on site... BYO.
K. J.
Brassey Hotel has become our go-to hotel in Canberra.
Great central location, beautiful surroundings, very friendly staff, always clean and tidy, classic decor, wonderful gym, and the best beds (So comfortable - can't even lie about how good the beds are).
We've never been dissatisfied with any of our stays here.
M. B.
It’s old but looked after well. The restaurant is not in the same building so it’s a bit of a walk for breakfast. Shower needs some attention. Team members are very friendly and helpful and seem genuinely interested in making your stay a good one. Rooms are very clean and comfortable, I would stay here again.
R. W.
It's a pretty cool place! I love the modernised classic decor. Not in the hub of the city but not very far. It's also good cause it's quiet.
There are no elevators. We are a family of five with lots of baggages. Hard to carry up the stairs and narrow hallways.
It wasn't clean looking when we arrived - the venue and facilities. It was public holiday so less staff?
But the next day, everythingwas bright and shinny.
Rooms are huge. Real excellent value.
C. S.
No breakfast service and very very limited food options available to purchase at Reception area. Nothing in the mini bar to eat or drink other than tea coffee tap water. Basic clean room. Definitely a genuine 3 star so don't expect frills. Staff helpful and happy.
M. R.
First time in Canberra and glad I'd chosen Brassey hotel. Zoe on reception was friendly & helpful regarding the surrounding area. Room reminds me of spa breaks in Chester. Very comfortable and I'm expecting a peaceful nights sleep.
k. b.
Very friendly staff - not a fully serviced hotel but that somewhat makes it feel more like home. Great for regular travelers! The Hale gym is also a nice perk!
R. I.
Nice big room very cleaned and plenty of amenities in bathrooms. Beds were super comfy. Both rooms were super warm. Kids loved it. Will definitely stay again.
T. M.
The staff at Brassey Hotel were most obliging and friendly. Within an easy walk to Kingston and ***uka it is ideally positioned for what I wanted to do in Canberra. The room was very spacious and faced out over the main entry and was located above reception. Good price for the hotel.
T. M.
Had a wonderful weekend at The Brassey of Canberra for the Dragons Abreast Australia National Convention. There were very heavy block out curtains on all windows which made the room very comfy. The service was lovely and engaging. Restaurants, gym/pool, easy access to all the national centres/galleries. Great value for money.
T. M.
Brassy is being done up and I must say they are doing a good job. Very welcome staff, caring and considerate. For that money, you will get an excellent breakfast almost anywhere. The breakfast was plentiful and had all we needed to start …
R. P.
Nice and cheap over the Christmas period. Great staff, amazing gym.
Bathrooms desperately need a revamp though. No bath plug, couldnt fully open toilet seat.
Windows rattle, and no-one at reception for an hour in the evening.
J. H.
Great accommodation. The renovations have turned the Brassey into classy but understated place to stay. The standard rooms are huge with a quaint alcove with writing desk and wardrobe. There's a modest lounge, and a choice of bars, cafes and restaurants as part of the Realm, Burbury precinct (chargeable back to your room, inc room service). If you're fitness oriented, there's access to a great in-house gym and spa/steamroom included. I'll be back.
B. G.
Nice accommodation and friendly staff, but no on premise dining or drinks. They do have an arrangement with hotel a 5 min walk away.
T. M.
I have stayed here quite a few times now and at the discount rate it is a good buy. The staff were friendly and the room rate included a full breakfast from the buffet. The hotel will be back to its heyday soon and the Doma Group should be proud of what they have been able to achieve so far.
S. H.
The gym here is very good; everything you could want and everything is clean.
One thing though - it's been a year and the over-eager bubbler that sprays users in the face still hasn't been fixed.
I. L.
Warm and cosy. In a very convenient location. Simple room set up. Breakfast is available off site. In house gym facility. Comfortable stay. There is no undercover parking however.
T. M.
By Canberra standards this is an old hotel and it has genuine class and style. The room had a stale smell covered up by a sickly air freshener but luckily the windows opened and we could air the room. The location really is excellent. Hotel is located in the precinct which included some very good eateries.
T. M.
Warm, cosy and charming little hotel tucked away in Canberra with a suburb feel. The rooms are spacious and the ensuite is well provisioned. Good value for money and the location near Capital Hill was great for us. Free parking outside the hotel and they offer breakfast for a price.
n. b.
Nice Heritage hotel.. staff was helpful and the room was clean. They did some special arrangements for my husband's birthday, that was a sweet gesture!
M. n.
Beautiful hotel.gorgeous service. The spa should be for all guest , we were told to go up the road and it was 5 degrees outside. We paid for 4 days. Other then that it was stunning.
A. L. U.
Conveniently located within walking distances from bus stands, this Hotel is a charming little place. The rooms are spacious and very aesthetically furnished, bright and airy. The staff are quiet friendly amd very helpful incase you need any guidance.
T. M.
In my opinion, this hotel does not score high marks for its location due to its inaccessibility to a wide variety of amenities. Undergoing renovations while I was there so the rates was excellent. The hotel is located in a residential area close to the Parliament. Check for your best deal.
W. H.
Not quite the hotel it was 25years ago eg the dinning room is now a gym so you have to go elsewhere for breakfast and there's nothing in the kitchenette but tea and coffee but it is full of history, very comfortable rooms, friendly staff, central location, 11am check out - noon if you ask. Parking is a premium.
s. n.
Stay there last Sunday night wonderful reception staff very helpful with room and directions to different locations!! This morning was a different story as two male Doma Hotel maintanece staff woke me up at a bit after 7am with their foul language one of them continuing dropping the F word. It was quite oblivious he did not care if anyone was asleep above in the room in the back entrance where they were standing .when he saw me standing on the balcony he said hello then left like a kid had just been caught .. I hope someone tells him he needs to be aware of his language and to be aware that guests are staying there and don't need to hear his trash talk ..
R. L.
Loved staying at the Brassey Hotel. Great location close to all the galleries and other things we wanted to see. Unfortunately they charged us twice, so that was a bummer. Peter helped sort that out quickly, a few days later, so thanks Peter. We will be back.
T. M.
The Brassey is in a wonderful location and has historic charm. Little sitting rooms complete with books are scattered throughout the hotel which meanders over several levels. Room rates vary widely depending on the day of the week and whether Parliament is in session. We'll come back here every time we come to Canberra.
S. T.
Well located to public the train station. Front concierge David was delightful, the other staff could learn from David. We had to make our Uber driver wait whilst we waited for David to check in two other guests, while the other concierge on Macquarie street side sat back.
In regards to rooms and accommodation. The gym has relatively new technogym equipment and is spacious with natural light. The rooms are decent for the price you pay.
We hired bikes for the day at $36 each and rode to multiple galleries, museums and along the river as well as Civic for dinner. It’s the best and most cost effective way to get around albeit it can be alittle challenging.
I would stay again
K. L.
Lovely historic hotel close to Parliament house, a little dated in the decor but quiet and comfortable
T. M.
Clearly a popular venue for functions and meetings in Canberra. The location is great for the High Court, Art Gallery etc. Renovations were undergoing to the gym and spa center but we didn't hear any of the work that was going on. I thought there was good value for money.
A.
Stayed two nights at the Brassey Hotel. Had a good experience overall. The room I stayed at and the linen were clean and tidy.
Even though their website and my booking confirmation states that Foxtel is included in the cost of the room, it was not available.
D. S.
Great for family stays. No room service but a excellent selection of food at sister hotel across the road. Rooms have modern appointments but keeps with the classic feel of the hotels exterior.
Z. T.
Good hotel, best thing about it for me is the awesome gym. Amazing equipment and lots of it. My room is dark and small thou, the AC is a bit loud.
L. J. R.
Very nice, shame the superior rooms ONLY have king beds that divide into two singles. The ridge in the middle is Very HARD & uncomfortable. For the cost of the stay, not reluctant to do it again.
B. E.
Old and clean with nice staff. Good sized rooms.
Parking is a bit of a bust. Claims free parking however it is street parking with two hour limit between 8am and 5pm which is quite inconvenient.
T. M.
Walking distance to Kingston shops and the lake. We had a king size bed with lots of room to store our luggage. The Brassey offers a breakfast which is 20 dollars, for basic continental. Best bed we have slept in. Parking is outdoors so be prepared for an icy car in winter.
K. Y.
Enjoyed the old world charm emensly. No in house restaurant which we didn't realise until we arrived, but only a short walk from the back entrance across the street to Burbury Apartments where the restaurants are. Very comfortable room. Bathroom fine, housekeeping fine.
N.
Really needs a refresh, but a good location and good sized rooms. Open up your wallet DOMA!!
P. H.
Beautiful old building . Hallaways are nicely painted new carpet , little quaint balconies in ceetain areas . Reading area on each level . Separate little tea coffee room and ground floor .
Beautiful room . Decent size bedroom , 2 comfortable armchairs , separate reading/walk in robe , nice bathroom . Restaurants a block or 2 away . Quick walk to old bus depot market and lake . Will definately stay here again .
M. K.
Lot's of atmosphere, comfortable room & extremely helpful & friendly at reception, bonus is free carpark but limited space & bathroom was on the "Cosy" side but I would stay here again .
J. K.
An excellent place to stay. Great room, great bed, amazing staff. The only thing missing is an on site pool. You have to walk up the road to the sister hotel.
A. U.
Family friendly room. Great location. Staff were lovely. Only downside is breakfast is from sister hotel down the street rather than at the actual hotel.
G. S.
A great hotel in location and space.
Friendly staff happy to acciommodate the need to change rooms when choking on the over cleaning power of bleach
A happy and friendly puppy from next door that greeted us upon arrival, along with the always smiling reception staff, made arriving and departing pleasant and warm
One negative, not to the fault of the hotel, was that the shuttle bus running to and from the war memorial does not loop around the hotels. Perhaps a petition could change that!
Finally, and nothing major, perhaps just consideration to dual linen when dual occupancy is undertaken (if thats the worst to worry about, then it's safe to say it was a great stay)
Will come back!
M.
Cute classic, historic hotel - lovely staff and cute small rooms with free wi-fi and they have a massage service, with gym and you can order in food and it's all good with them : )
C. D.
Hotel location is good, rooms are adequate and the service has been impeccable. The price, however, at which these have been delivered is the most attractive aspect, overall!
P. S.
Older hotel but nicely kept. Staff very helpful. Very quiet and not far from two areas with decent restaurants. Reasonable value for money.
R. J. A.
Only use the weight room since I am staying at another hotel thats guest can workout here. The weight section is always taken up by private classes so the equipment that's left is pretty minimal.
C. S.
Excellent location for visiting the Parliamentary Zone. It's part of a group of three hotels next to each other which means you get the small hotel vibe but with the facilities of a much larger complex.
S. P.
The Brassey Hotel is one of the few hotels in the area that have bike hire services. We regularly use the hire bikes for a weekend afternoon ride. Great service always delivered with a smile.
D. G.
Great old hotel refurbished to modern standards. Close by bars and restaurants and booking.com was on the money for price
T. M.
Having been a once or twice a year visitor to the Brassey for over 30 years we were disappointed that it had changed hands and lost much of its former charm and comfort. Everything is expensive. Hotel was only about a 30 minute walk to Floriade and about a 15-20min walk to Old Parliament House.
J. L.
Great hotel nestled away from the CBD. Nice old feel to the building and rooms. Parking spaces are a little light on but we did also arrive very late.
M. W.
Excellent quality rooms
T. C.
Very friendly staff, and especially the newly renovated well equipped gym. Love the nespresso machine and T2 tea bags. Will definately come back again.
A. C.
Been here every few months for Chifley's bar and grill, which has always been consistently reliable for a good steak. The platter is decent value if variety is sought.
J. K.
Room was nice. Shower was fiddly to use, was very touchy and not great. Staff were very friendly. Amenities were great. An overall pleasant stay.
P. V.
Figuring out which entrance is the front and back can be a little confusing for what is otherwise a beautiful hotel!
R. W.
A bit old fashioned?classic? Good the receptionist works so hard till late and very helpful, friendly. Nice and quiet as winter in the capital always is.
T. M.
Nice hotel but doesn't offer breakfast at the hotel. Free parking is available.
P. R.
Nice large rooms and excellent decor
Location is also fab!
B. R.

S. J.
Clean, comfortable and great for the price. Friendly staff and location easy access to Canberra with Car (and included parking).
J. K.
Really good gym. It has advanced digital equipments and deadlift platforms with enough weights to deadlift up to 500 kg easily.
G. D.
Good location and nice old building. After a reporting a fault with the room the friendly staff were quick to assist in moving to an alternative room
M. C.
Basic but comfortable

J. M.
Great little hotel. Older style, simple rooms. Great value and friendly staff.
A. B.
Downstairs coffee machine an added bonus. Loving our stay, and the very efficient air conditioned building.
S. H.
Great character but lacks sufficient lighting in the rooms.
S. J.
Older style, fridge not working, reasonably well appointed gym, access to a great pool across the road, plumbing noisy.

A lovely hotel with nice warm rooms. Staff at the reception a bit distant but nice. Bed a bit too soft for our taste but still a magnificemt sleep! The only thing that really didn't fit the picture is the noisy blinds chain. When your neighbours were up in the morning, they'd wake you up with the noise :)

(Translated) The interior decoration of the general room type is quite satisfactory, but there are some, and there are free drinking water and tea, and it is very quiet at night! There is also a gym on the first floor, it is recommended for the price
I chose to stay here again in March. The lady at the counter was very active in assisting me in dealing with housing problems, with a very good service attitude

(Translated) This is an old, historic hotel in Canberra, Australia. The neat interior and gym could be well appreciated, but the hotel lacked a restaurant and had to experience the inconvenience of having to eat in another building. Other than that, friendly staff, free coffee and fruit were satisfying.
