L.I booked a twin ensuite with private bathroom in YHA for my last day of stay in Canberra (which was upgraded to a family ensuite when I arrived, thanks to the Manager, Martha), so I could utilise the morning to visit the Australian National War Memorial and dash to the airport after lunch. YHA is your old fashioned, budget and people friendly hostel perfectly positioned right between the main bus routes and the major shopping district. It is not your perfect holiday hotel, but it is clean and has everything basic provided: clean beds, towels, soaps, a LCD TV, tea and coffee, a very clean kettle. You will find anything else you need in the kitchen/communal area, such as multiple sets of toasters, microwaves, stovetops, fridges etc, a full kitchen basically, and they are very clean.
If you wish to wash your hair during your stay, you will have to bring your own shampoo, conditioner and hair dryer.
The reception is not 24 hrs but the receptionist I checked-in with, Sydney, was fabulous. There are luggage storage lockers available in the hostel, which are safe and cheap. If you like fresh sushi, you will find one of the best value sushi shops, Sushi Bell, just a few doors away. Happy to stay here next time I visit the Canberra CBD.

My first experience with the YHA hostels and had an excellent experience. They provide the basics as you would expect but they provide it at a high level of quality and customer service.
Seeing that I came at the end of autumn and it was 0 degrees outside at night, this place was kept very warm all day and was easy to fall asleep at night.
I have nothing negative to say about this place as I’ve stayed in hostels in the US and Europe and the quality of this experience was better than those. Attendants are active and keeping the kitchen clean and willing to answer any questions.

B. M.Canberra YHA is a gem in the centre of Canberra city. So many positives - modern facilities, comfortable beds, clean bathrooms, central location. Less busy than usual due to covid restrictions and it's a great way to meet travelers from all over Australia. The only downside was the street noise was a bit loud some nights...just remember to pack earplugs.
S. B.Not good value for money here. The kitchen is the worst ill-equipped I've ever used. No colander to drain food, no sharp knives, and for 2 days we had no tea towels or forks. Definitely needs a stock check ASAP. The bathrooms on level 3 were always so dirty, and the toilet paper didn't get stocked up for a day. The location of the hostel was good though and the free bus was great. Overall I would not stay here agaib, it was too over priced and dirty.
J. M.I stayed here early Sept 2019 for one night, I found the online check-in process nice and easy. The guy at the reception desk was friendly and very helpful. My room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The only complaint I have isn't even about the YHA itself, but one girl in the dorm who was clearly quite sick and really noisy (again not the fault of the YHA)... I think next time, I'll upgrade to have a room of my own to avoid potentially getting sick from other backpackers. Great location, nice amenities. I was also surprised the TV had a few channels with multiple languages which was really cool :). Overall great place I think.

T. R.I was surprised at how clean the room was! The position of the Hostel is perfect for all inner city running around but parking is a serious and expensive issue here and all throughout Canberra.
On the downside, it can get noisy at night with some guests not respecting 10pm quiet time. Our room was near the male toilets and the banging of the door and clicking of the door handle in the middle of the night got a bit much.
That said, I'd probably stay again due to how clean it was and the reasonable price.
H. W.Great hostel, with great facilities. Beds were comfy, kitchen was clean and spacious, and bathrooms were clean. Only complaint was that you had to pay for luggage storage. I am already paying a decent amount for the hostel, and the fact that I have to pay and extra $5 or more to store luggage for the day seems a bit of a rip off. Other than that, good hostel
M. R.Quite expensive, 4 stars because: no free teas or coffee whatsoever, kitchen big but missing equipment such as strainers and only one peeler. The reception team wasn't really generous with their answers, had to ask for every single thing. Would have all been fine if not for 71$ for 2 nights..

S. H.Best hostel yet! It's a modern building which is kept very clean - especially the bathing facilities and the kitchen area are in outstanding good conditions. The staff is very friendly, they help you out with any trouble you have. It's also located quite central; we did nearly all the attractions by foot but the hostel also offers a bike rental that is half price on Wednesdays. I would definitely recommend this place to my friends.

The people here are very nice and professional as well as very helpful in assisting in what you need help with, whether that be finding where something is or just general information about Canberra, etc.
The rooms are very tidy and clean as well as large and roomy.
The reasons I'm not giving 5 stars is because:
-room to grow
-need mirrors or reflective glass in the lifts (elevators) so us females (and males) can fix ourselves, or just see how we look
-freezer would be nice to put frozen items such as frozen meals and such
-need another lift

I was in mixed bedroom -4 people. There was a cupboard for each person and room was spacious.
I'll definitely stay again in YHA. This was an amazing experience.

J. J.A good hostel with modern facilities and services. Great location and helpful staff. 24 hour swipe card access is a wonderful and secure feature. Rooms look clean but harbor a lot of dust in the carpet and mattresses. Dust allergy sufferers avoid - my wheezing in the room had me sleeping on the couch in the loungeroom.

Big lockers in the room, which have a power and USB plug inside! Charging the phone while it’s locked, that’s great!
There’s parking in the ‚backyard‘, but it’s not free for cars (but free for motorcycles).
My room was very cold during the night! Not sure if they didn’t turn on the heating yet or if they don’t have one...
But the price is very steep!
J. D.Best YHA out there. Well equipped and placed in the heart of Canberra, with a plethora of great bars and restaurants surrounding it. Well kept and very clean with friendly staff on hand 24/7. Only minor negative during my stay was that the pool and accompanying spa are not heated. 10/10 would stay again.

J. S.Rooms are really good for a shorter duration. The premises are clean and neat. The heater is also good combined with a good quality quilt is all I needed for the night. Apart from that, the kitchen is also clean and has almost all kinds of utensils and crockery.
M.The hostel was clean and tidy, although it lacked atmosphere. Reception wasn't particularly welcoming but I did see activities etc available throughout the day. There was free WiFi available, and you could pay extra for a faster one.
S. C.I have been in several YHAs and this wasn't the best. Not a good smell in the hallway, beds and rooms were not super clean and the staff could be a bit friendlier. But overall a decent place for the price.

W. W. D.Good value and very convenient location. Often stay here with friends when visiting Canberra for seminars. This is shared dorm style accommodation. It’s budget price with shared shower facilities and you have to make you’re own bed and put linen away on last day. It’s no problem though and well priced. If you book with friends makes it really fun to share the ‘dorm’. Otherwise you may be in with strangers. But also interesting to meet new people. Close to local shops and cafes and has area like all YHA’s to store your own food if you wish. So great value, clean and very handy location.
n.GOOD STUFF: place was kept very clean, quite central, good wifi, kitchen open 24/7, bbq on the balcony, a lot of room in the fridges and the shelves for the guests' food, a sauna and a swimming pool. BAD STUFF: swimming pool was just too stinky, probably because the water wasn't cleaned, the showers sometimes run out of hot water, the swipe cards stop working quite often so if you need to go to the toilet in the middle of the night, or if you are in a hurry, just pray it won't happen to you. Also the staff could be more friendly, haven't seen a smile on their faces, just seems they don't enjoy much working there.

Staff was a bit boored but I checked in late so that might be, found overnight parking in the back which was nice. WiFi worked fine and I had a really nice sleep in the aircon rooms.

They realised we had suffered through some difficulties and the went out of their way to get us as comfortable as possible.

S. N.Canberra YHA is the best. Had a good time staying there over the last Floriade weekend. They have private rooms, dorms and rooms with common bathrooms. Their communal kitchen is the best to make your own food. They offer free pancakes on every Sunday (DIY) just bring your own groceries and make your food using the utensils available.
They also offer various other services like laundry, extra fast wifi, towels for private rooms, hairdryer & bike and parking for hire. Don't forget to hire MYway card at the reception for you to use the public transport in Canberra. They also have smart lockers for hire if you wanna leave your luggage after checkout. It's pretty chilled out place if you come with a gang of friends and share the room rent 😋
Overall it's an amazing place to stay during peak seasons majorly for cheaper price in the city when u don't have a car with you

m. a.I never would have considered it if it wasn't for the rest of Central Canberra being billed out, however the Canberra YHA was a very pleasant surprise. The private room was basic but spatious and clean with a private bathroom. It is very Central located to the shipping district and the various government offices where I had meetings. There is a bar downstairs which opens relatively late which brings a bit of life to an otherwise quiet CBD.

E. H.I have been staying at the Canberra YHA for two years now on the first weekend of every month for work. Have stayed in dorm of 10, 8, 4 beds and always had a great stay. Remember to bring ear plugs and mask in case some fellow travellers snore.

D. H.While it's in a great location, the other guests made it less than stellar with singing all hours in the dorms, people getting kicked out for smoking weed and puke in the bathrooms and outside. Also the included breakfast isn't enough for me, so it wasn't worth it.

The kitchen downstairs is well equipped and big enough for 15+ people to be comfortably cooking at the same time with adaquete space to store food on shelves and in a fridge.

Y.a bit expensive for a hostel. facilities are clean. do not stay here if you got a car, looking for parking space is a huge hassle, most likely the parking at the back of building is full (metered parking!) and you'll have to park at canberra centre, 5 mins walk. it wasnt worth the price + parking fee
C. G.It is decent enough, but like all YHA on the mainland, suffers from a lack of space. There was no where to store my food in the kitchen and bags in the room. The premium wifi was great for the internet but not so much for netflix. There is construction going on, so it is very noisy very early in the morning. Bring a power strip. Only 2 outlets in the room I had. One additional one in each locker. Problem with this is the location in the locker. After you add an adapter and your charger, half of the locker space is used up.
Take the #11 bus from the airport. Save yourself money and time.

CONS: Only issue is the parking if you driving up. Parking TIP: Canberra City Plaza parking on weekends in just $2 for the entire day (24 hr parking). (Sat, Sun & Public Holidays). Leave it in the open car park at your own risk.
Station Bar at the basement has some unruly crowd, not an ideal place to be hanging out at late nights.
