M.This is based on a King Room
Room was clean, nice bathroom/shower and the bed was comfortable.
However, it was just okay, and the 3 stars is a reflection that it's overpriced for what you get.
Room is very small and the view from the room is just to another hotel/the lower roof.
Lack of any real lounge/outdoor space.
Has parking but isn't reserved and hard to get a spot when a function is on.
Re amenities, the pool is shared with apartments next door and although a decent length, it's quite narrow/shallow which makes hard to actually get any time to swim Laps.
The gym is also shared and although it may have been well equipped in the past, most of the equipment has been broken, and it looks like most of the dumbbells have been stolen.

Room is amazing with very comfortable beds and all amenities you could need.
The additional separate toilet is very handy with kids. Very clean rooms and entire hotel.
They also have a well equipped gym and indoor pool

The sauna suite was marvellous, big room, nice interior. We enjoyed the well heated indoor pool. The roof top bar looks awesome, is yet to be explored next time. The mattress is worth mentioning - super comfortable sleeping.
Stuff is excellent. Special thanks to Josh, my saviour, who helped with sauna set up and managed to take my necklace, which somehow dropped behind the toilet.

H. L.First of all the attendant who my auntie asked for a toilet (as she traveled for 2hrs ) told her that they didn't have one luckily one of the guests told her where the toilet was. Secondly the AC in our room made a beeping noise all the while that we put it on a heater mode but the noise is still there... they've replaced our room in a more spacious room. The parking was a bit of a inconvenience as it was very limited and we had to park the car in the street are wherein there was only an alotted time. All in all i think that the experience went well. There should always be a room for improvement.
M. P.Had a great stay on the weekend. Hotel was very busy with in-house events but did not affect us at all. Room was spacious (we opted to stay in a suite) and clean. The staff we encountered were friendly and professional. Room service was delicious. Would not hesitate in recommending this Hotel and we are looking forward to staying again soon.

Needed knife fork and spoon and plates so we could eat comfortably. Will stay in apartment next time as prefer microwave and basics for eating. But nice and comfortable at Rex. Thank you.

Food:
- Breakfast: they cater to your dietary requirements, food preferences that might not be right on the menu, and make the most amazing mochas and long blacks! They are a hotel and yet make coffee better than many cafes!!
- In room dining: they didn’t have anything dairy-free in the dessert menu, so the reception checked with the chefs who said they can make a dairy free brownie. We don’t even care if this brownie was store bought and presented to us on a plate - the fact the staff are so considerate is amazing! And the brownie itself was delicious!
- Restaurants: Howling Moon and Swan and King are great establishments.
- Drinks: a great selection of cocktails !
We’ve been here twice and we can’t wait to come back :)
K. S.This was the best hotel i stayed in on my trip to NSW the room was so clean and was a pleasure to smell the freshness when you opened the door. Spa suite was exceptional and also had a TV in the bathroom with double shower heads and double spa. The howling wolf rooftop bar was also lovely with fantastic views and great snack food, it also offered full meals but I nibbled with drinks. Will be my first choice of stay when in Canberra

A.Went to Howling Moon for dinner and a few drinks. Although the staff was friendly, food and view were great, the room was freezing cold and service was slow. The room itself is well decorated and the view amazing, suggest taking a warm coat and prepare to be patient.

We stayed in the Kings Suit and they were very modern with 2 x tv's and a very nice bathroom. We have stayed at other Hotels that were priced higher and the rooms were small and outdated. I would recommend the Rex Hotel to anyone that wants value for money.

s.Had to travel to Canberra for work and decided to arrive a few days early to include the weekend. I have previously stayed at this hotel, it is in a good location and has a great rooftop bar. They were obviously busy over the weekend but the service provided to me was not affected by this. This is my hotel of choice when in Canberra.

S.Just got back from a weekend stay. Rooms were clean and in order, staff at the hotel are friendly and welcoming, nice options to choose from the room service menu, great rooftop venue and even better is you have access to an indoor pool and gym!
I would’ve liked the room to have had a smart tv or at least cast capabilities so I could’ve watched some Netflix but that’s just me nitpicking and being annoying haha #1stworldproblems
I think I’ll always stay at the Rex every time I’m in ACT.
R. S.Security guard was great at helping us with a car park, front desk were great, we had a romantic package so 12noon checkout, close to lots of shops.
Unfortunately we got a knock on the door from the cleaner not long after 10am and no water bottles in the bar fridge.

The rooms are a nice size and very well appointed. Loved the layout of the hotel room.
The bathroom was a good size. Shower ran hot and cold which was a little annoying.
It doesnt appear the windows are well sealed or double glazed, but the heater works well to compensate.
There is good lighting in the room. And I barely had to wait for an elevator or be crowded in one.
Rooms are clean and well kept.
M.I stay for one night there, good price but the sofa and carpet not really clean, not a big problem with that still enjoy the stay.
S. S.Excellent service and drinks at Howling Moon. Special thanks to Prince our bartender who really took great care of me and my friends and for making by far the best margarita I’ve ever had. Also made some excellent recommendation on wine which is a bonus. Always enjoy a nice drink with a view!

J. S.Excellent value. They did take an amount greater than what I paid for the room as a credit card 'hold' which I am still yet to get back 6 days later. Room was clean and modern, and the bedding was top-notch. Staff were friendly and the included breakfast was excellent, especially considering what I paid for the room.
A bit of noise leaks into the rooms from outside and the hallways, and there's no mini bar without calling downstairs, but for a 3 star hotel it's excellent overall and closer to 4 stars in my opinion.
B. B.5 star recommendation for The Howling Moon Rooftop Bar. It's a beautiful space with a lovely ambience. We enjoy setting up for events in this gorgeous space and can not praise the staff enough for their courteous attitude and help when planning a delivery or set up.
A. M.Uncomfortable bed and very disappointing service : Hotel is currently undergoing renovations and when we went to get water from the tap in the bathroom it was filled with white debris. I called reception to check if it was safe and as they were unsure whether it was safe or not they offered to send up a bottle of water each for myself and my partner. I was only notified at check out the next day I would be charged for the water at $4 a bottle. It is very disappointing that there was no available safe water to use in our room and then that we were charged for water after is was offered due to the fact there was a problem with their plumbing, and furthermore that we weren't even informed that there would be a charge.
Edit - I have increased my rating as they did contact me and offer a refund for the water due to the misunderstanding which shows great customer service. In their reply they maintained that the water was safe and I am sure it would be under usual circumstances. However given the renovation and that we could see quite a lot of white debris in the water and they were unsure at the time when questioned, it was fair for us to believe otherwise.
C. K.Mostly this hotel is perfect. The staff are very prompt and mostly very courteous. There were only small imperfections really. The room had tea and coffee facilities but no spoon or anything to mix your sugar into your tea and coffee. I think we used a cotton bud that comes on a stem?
Personally I use a lot of toiletries in the shower so I would like a longer stand in the shower to put everything on. The one provided was very small.
Also one of the staff at the check in/out desk was a bit snobby towards us but everyone else was really lovely.
Generally the service is very good and the rooms smell amazing.
We stayed in the Spa room with King sized bed and balcony and we loved it. The included breakfast was delicious and staff were always kind and courteous at breakfast, even if I was bleary eyed. I'd definitely come again.
I should also note that the facilities are very good - i.e. the swimming pool, gym and parking.
S.Room was clean, but the plumbing needs attention, could smell toilet and drainage of sink not good. Staff very friendly and helpful. We went first weekend school holidays so had to try find parking in the street. The howling moon bar had a nice romantic feel. There was finger food but you could also order from the restaurant menu I had fish and chips it was good a few chips still frozen but fish was nice we also had the schnitzel which was also ok. The place was clean though
L. G.Great value!! Room was clean, comfortable bed, had good facilities and loved the buffet breakfast. However, need to improve a couple of things - the gym, we couldn't get in as the door was jammed and need more parking space. Otherwise, we loved the place and definitely stay again.

We had a spacious King Suite type room which was spotless and tended to meticulously during our stay. Free wifi is available.
L. M.4.04.20 My boyfriend, my mother and I came down to visit Canberra for the weekend. Greeted by welcoming staff and the hotel was designed beautifully. Unfortunately my mother had an accident in her room. Called reception and was seen to immediately. Victoria was the staff member who came up and gave my mother 1st class care. Anything she needed Victoria assisted with was with professional care and service. We've been treated like royalty. The rooms were decorated beautifully too. I would recommend this Hotel to anyone.

W. M.Stayed here for a wedding. Was actually a very nice hotel. Staff were helpful and let me check in early as didn't have a place to stay and were accommodating. The function room was great and let the1 party go on until midnight. The rooftop bar is also really nice but let down a little by the construction of the light rail. Would have been even better with the old northbourne trees
J. X. L.The Rex Hotel has a relatively newly built roof top bar with drink facilities and happy hour. There are a variety of food dishes. The quality of some dishes is good but other dishes are average. During their happy hour in late spring and summer, the roof top is extremely hot and yet the hotel does not turn on its aircons! It is okay for casual dinning and a drink.

We enjoyed eating breakfast in bed, walking in Haigh park and ordering ubereats for dinner from all the excellent restaurants nearby which are too far away from our home. Hotel staff were lovely and very attentive. Perfect escape for a couple of days.
B. A.Rooms were nice and tidy, bed was super comfy. The spa bath was big and relaxing! Bar staff at the roof top were extremely friendly and welcoming. However there is no designated parking for guests, and on arrival my partner and I were greeted by a very rude unprofessional staff member.

A. L.Very luxurious hotel, friendly and accomadating staff, rooms are well presented, and modern, bathroom with sensor lighting under the floating vanity. Room maintenance could be levelled up, cleaning the shower vent, tape hanging from the AC unit, carpet lifting.
With those small details having attention paid to them, I'd happily rate it a 5/5.

J. L.Very stylish hotel, bar and restaurant was beautiful and was very glad we got to visit for a drink and dinner given Covid-19. Breakfast was great, recommend the scrambled eggs! Unfortunately the hotel was under going some construction work and despite the hotel being very empty due to Covid we were given a room right onto the scaffolding and had workers outside the window at 7.15am every morning. Also the plug sockets have a bright blue light on when something is plugged in so all night you are under a bright blue spotlight from every direction!

Our stay included a decent buffet breakfast with hot food options, though we had to wait 15 minutes before we got a seat as the dining area is rather small/we came during a busy time of the morning! There is also a rooftop bar, however we didn't get a chance to visit. Free on site parking is also available. Staff are friendly and available 24/7.

Location is not as good as some other hotels but that doesn't really matter in Canberra.

C. S.I had a late check in to the hotel. The staff at reception were very attentive and quickly sorted my room for me. The room was very clean and well presented. The bathroom had a good range of toiletries and towels. The bed was very comfortable with plenty of pillows. The breakfast in the morning was very good with a great selection if hot and cold, sweet and savoury. Checkout was painless. I will stay here again.

D. H.We had a recently refurbished room and could not fault it at all. It was quite luxurious and a complimentary full breakfast to boot. Staff had just the right amount of politeness. We got a fantastic price in early January as it was the holiday season. I would stay here again if I was able to get the same price again as the rack rate is a little out of my price range.
M. L.It's a nice hotel just a bit above 3 stars for the building itself. There are many spots that are being re-done but it's great for conferences, seminars, big parties and weddings, etc.
I did give it 4 stars for the updated bathrooms, saunas, spas and toilets with non slamming lids.😀 And of course great reception help! Thank you.

I stayed with my two children under 6 in the crown room.
The morning breakfast buffet was delicious.
Weekday staff were amazing! Housekeeping saw my kids shoes in the room & left an extra towel with out me asking.
Also room service noticed upon delivery that the kids meal I ordered was being divided between two children and volunteered to get another kids cutlery set for me, again without me asking.
That’s just great customer service when they offer these little things without being prompted..
Bit disappointed the indoor pool was in a separate building which meant we had to walk outside afterwards to get back to our room so we didn’t end up using it. Not a huge deal though.
I checked out the restaurants on a Saturday afternoon but they didn’t appear child friendly. More of a bar/restaurant with loud music.
Room service was great though and not overly expensive.
Parking was a little busy on the weekend evenings but I didn’t seem to have an issue getting a spot.
Overall a beautiful well presented room & hotel with friendly and helpful staff in a great location.
I would definitely consider staying here if I ever travel to Canberra again.
A. D.We stayed here for 2 nights. I would say, I was happy with the room, breakfast was nice, staff were mostly good, but they don't readily offer you help with luggage. What ruined it for me was the very dirty carpets in the room. So dirty that our feet were dirty after walking around for a couple of hours. Guests and cleaners walking on the carpet with dirty shoes from outside, toilets, public toilets, gross! This is how people get skin infections like golden staph. So we had to wear socks and slippers all the time we were there, and we also asked for extra towels and laid them out on the floor. The carpets need deep cleaning more regularly than that. You have to check out at 10am but you can't check in til 2pm. So there would be 4 hours available to preen and vacuun a very small patch of carpet traffic.

T. T.Room was spacious and well organised. Though the hotel is located on a main road, there was absolutely no noise at night, maybe that’s how Canberra is at night ;)
Bed was comfy. The only issue I had was that the air con was right over the side of the bed which was a bit annoying.
In room service menu was not so attractive. Ended up getting Uber eats after a long day ar work.
Parking spots available are limited.

The deposit was instant in coming back as I had read other comments that it was slow and some guests still waiting. I would definitely say that would be a credit card problem and not the hotel so I dont know why that is even mentioned. The rooms and whole hotel have been brand new refurbishment so everything was clean and the best bed and pillow i have ever had in a hotel... 10 out of 10

S. G.Pleasant and comfortable stay in this ACT landmark. We were especially grateful when the management moved us to another room, at our request, without hesitation: we preferred a rear-window aspect on the quiet street behind the hotel, and got it.
The breakfast room was cosy and the fare good.
We had a pre-dinner drink in the upstairs cocktail bar, which is something of a gold-fish bowl. If that's your kind of thing, then that's where you should go. We went, drank, and um, went.
P. M.Room was good. Tried a sauna. Sunday night had no room service though. The breakfast was a ordinary and I think a little overwhelmed due to an event that had used the hotel. Staff very friendly and I hope things pull together when the roof top bar is open.

C. N. (.Fit for purpose hotel on the main strip before the Canberra Central area. Tidy rooms, well presented, welcoming enough, and simple set up. Prepay room was required, but was a good value room with a spacious bathroom, and decent bed and relax area.
Parking was not an easy task, and if the hotel is occupied to that level, this would be a detractor. Breakfast also couldn't handle the number of occupants, as we had to wait for some time to get a table.
Location is good, with a small park down the road literally a stone's throw away, and some eateries and convenience stores around the corner. A shorter walk on is the city centre.
Overall, not a bad spot if the rate is cheap enough.
S. C.Very nice hotel and conveniently located closed to the CBD and Lonsdale Avenue. The standard room is a bit small but it was very nicely appointed. The bed was very comfortable and that is a huge plus. The hotel is certainly showing its age but the latest renovation has rejuvenated the interior of the hotel. The staff were very responsive and friendly. The free parking onsite is a big bonus as others in the locality charge for on site parking. I love the huge windows which lets in a lot of natural light and you can open part of the window to let in some fresh air. It’s great to be able to see the mountains in the distance.
S.Pros: The king room was clean and well presented. Large flat screen tv, free wifi, modern bathroom, great water pressure in shower. Close to nearby restaurant's and shops. Reception staff are friendly and helpful.
Cons: our room was a long way from lifts and entry, parking on the property was unavailable on one night of our stay and there was no close-by street parking. Windows are not sound proof and you can hear people talking in the street and cars passing even from level 3. There was a wait to get a table for breakfast and a longer wait for the buffet to be replenished when food ran out. No coffee or tea was available during our breakfast on day 2. Bar and breakfast service was poor.

L. H.Went to The Rex to meet with friends from interstate who were staying there and was pleasantly surprised by the beautifully decorated 5th floor bar area. We decided to stay for dinner and order some share platters. The quality of the platters were fantastic. I was also very personally impressed with the selection of scotches available, which is often quite lacking in other parts of Canberra. Unfortunately we didn't get to experience the 6th (top) floor dining area due to a function. From what we could see this looked quite good and had glass ceilings, which was quite novel.
T. M.We took our laptops to the lobby for good reception, but no power outlets. The price has the breakfast buffet included which gives you extensive options. It's only a short walking distance from a range of bars and restaurants on the city centre's edge. I thought the bathroom set-up was absolutely beautiful.

The bed was very comfortable although a double room with two single beds is a small room for two adults I was lucky my colleague didn't check in. the food was a culinary delight offering dietary meals like GF and vegetarian. Staff are friendly and the environment couldn't have been more comfortable than being at home. I truly enjoyed my stay here and I would stay here again. Definitely a good hotel
T. M.The hotel is aged but the interior has been completely modernised. Not having stayed here before we were told the hotel is going through a renovation and except for some workers and some construction noise you wouldn't really know at all. Catering for the individual or group is done with ease.

Unfortunately the allocate bay for the secured parking was not easy to locate as the parking bays are not numbered consecutively, and most of the numbers are only painted on the floor.

I like the HDMI and USB ports on the walls to easily charge devices and connect to the TV, though I wish the network ports were actually connected. There is a nice indoor lap pool, just beware that you have to walk to the next door building to access it and bring a towel with you as none were provided at the pool. WiFi service is free but with no security. It works well enough, sometimes a bit slow but I was able to stream HD video in off-peak hours.

It’s in a great location, I can happily walk to the city past the eatery’s on Lonsdale Street. T. “. W.Rex is what i would call as great value for money. I stayed at Rex for over 6+ months (FIFO - Fly In Fly Out, every week) and enjoyed a comfortable stay. The place is clean, was in the process of being renovated and overall the guys have done a great job with the new setup.
Also used the gym a fair bit with access to the pool anytime of the day. Recommend Rex to anyone who is looking for value for money and easy access to the city.

A. B.As part of the Department of Defence we held a 2 day conference here. Food was good, staff were more than happy to help with little or big queries, and my event manager(s) (as unfortunately I had upwards of 4 over the course of the planning and conduct of the conference - this did provide many continuity issues where I had to remind / amend details) never got frustrated by the amount of times I hailed them. The audio visual systems here are modern, integrated and outstanding quality. All I needed was a laptop with the conference content. Their 3rd party technician would bring all wires, wireless slide changers, microphones etc, and connect it all (there is even fast reliable free WiFi). The cost to the Commonwealth was also extremely competitive. The initial event manager I had altered their first proposal to align with Defence travel budget calculators AND include complimentary meals for our interstate delegates - which we had 40 - so this saved the Commonwealth alot of money (in addition to the cheaper rates for hire and catering to their local competitors). The conference room itself was comfortable, well lit and didn't echo. The chairs were basic steel with cloth cushions. 4 / 5 stars. Would've been 5 however fell short because of the constant and frustrating changes in event manager. Whilst it was out of their control due to staff leaving; as a client utilising public money and investing in an establishment, there's a certain level of communication in the internal hand over of information and notification for change of point of contact you'd expect. There was also frequent spelling errors and incorrect details in the contract / event order - we got to version 5 before it was satisfactory. But overall, the conference went smoothly without major problems. Don't be fooled by its 3* listing - it's recent renovations and quality of products (guest rooms, food, equipment, customer service) rivals and surpasses many 4* establishments. Some extra refinement would see the Canberra Rex Hotel in the 5* category.

T.I only went there because my uni exams are held in the function room but from the looks of the room, toilets, foyer and driveway the Rex Hotel seems like it takes itself seriously so I can only assume that it's a nice place to stay. Aircon works well, assume it would be just as good for a tipple in winter with the translucent roof and western aspect. Spoke too soon, food is not that great (chicken tacos are rubbery and have red onion (not mentioned on the menu)).

Construction began at 8:20 in the floor anove us. When we called reception we were told that we should have been advised the night before and they would stop it until 10am.We weren't informed the night before.
8:55am. Drilling commences again. I confronted sales and events manager Kurt Hartmann about the issue only to be told he ''cannot account" for the misinformation I was given. He also advised the construction was unscheduled which flies in the face of what reception advised earlier. So now we have been lied to twice.
There was no offer of compensation for the disruption. No accountability shown by management and seemingly no desire to correct the issue.
It wouldn't be so bad if they had owned their mistake. Been honest and tried to fix the issue. But no. Mr Kurt Hartmann handled this the same way a politician in Canberra would. Ignore the issue. Blame the customer and hope it goes away
And then we met Jackie!
My partner went down stairs, having worked in hospitality and spoke to duty manager Jackie. Jackie was amazing. She was empathic. She had answers. She took full responsibility. She offered us a new room and an upgrade for the trouble. In short she was the most amazing, helpful, understanding and compassionate manager I've ever dealt with. Full credit to her and her unflappable nature and incredibly deft hand at handling such a tricky situation. Jackie gets an 11/10 for being totally, incredibly awesome in her management of the situation.
Just given how Jackie handled this means we will definitely go back.

G.We have just returned from Canberra and spent 3 nights at the Rex Hotel, and before we left Adelaide we saw many very negative reviews of the Rex Hotel, and this concerned us very much, but we are here to tell everyone that we had a fantastic stay there, we had a lovely clean room and didn't want for a thing, if we asked for anything , we got it, and the room was serviced each day, and coffee and tea etc replenished, also toiletries too. Nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff, especially Rachel who took the time to print out our boarding passed for us, a cheerful bubbly lovely young lady and also Selina who helped us with our luggage, and Selina don't forget "Lilliput Lane"cottages !! she will understand this !!!
Breakfast each morning was fantastic, and well cooked and lots of variety, a great hotel, great service and also we enjoyed Canberra very much especially Floriade which was main reason for going, so if we are in Canberra again we will certainly book into the Rex and also the bus stop is only a short walk from the hotel and so easy to get around from there.
