s. s.We booked 2 rooms. No bowls to microwave in any of the room. Night supervisor was very friendly😊😊. He was a Nepalese guys and helped us a lot.
T. W. R.Brilliant hotel, the staff are friendly, considerate and approachable especially Jill, she always had a smile on her face. We had come down for a family thing and where not sure how long we where going to be staying for and she completely accommodated us. Bar staff where super friendly, great food in the bistro and the rooms where tidy and clean. Very handy location it was quiet, super close to Coles and a decent Cafe and other convenient shops.
The only downfall was having to carry our luggage up 4 flights of stairs.

D. S.I was impressed with the lovely staff (lady with long blonde pony tail and night manager) what impeccable manners and caring staff they are. My only small small gripe is there are no instructions on how to double lock the door from inside. This hotel has the most generous coffee tea Billie facilities, iron etc. Oh forgot the hairdryer needed your 2 hands to work so bring your own. I really loved it and it was a very quiet hotel too. Priced very reasonably for such nice accommodation.
A. C.We have stayed at this hotel for the last 8 years. Every single time the service is amazing. Staff are ALWAYS friendly and attentive. The rooms are always clean, beds are comfortable, the shower is awesome and the bistro is fantastic! The food is always fresh and cooked beautifully regardless of what you have on the menu. I do very highly recommend the steak which i normally don’t do but the chef here knows how to cook an awesome steak!!
We have just stayed for three days in a row and literally cannot fault this hotel in any way. We will continue to come back for birthdays and anniversaries and special occasions for as long as this hotel is standing. Definitely recommend anyone to stay here and if I could give more stars I would! Thank you to the wonderful staff for making our stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible :)

M. W.We arrived late in the day after a pretty awful day of moving house with a little baby. Walking in we were greeted by a lovely woman at the bar with a big smile on her face. It may seem insignificant to her but the way she spoke to us and my baby really made my day and left me feeling so much better.

B. C.Lovely, relaxed place to have a drink and a meal. There's a sports bar with snacks and a regular dining area with outdoor seating. Bentspoke Crankshaft is available on tap as also Canberra's Pacific ale. The kitchen produces extraordinarily good versions of all the usual suspects, burgers, fish, schnitzel etc and lunch is only $10!! The Sri Lankan couple running the kitchen make the best lamb curry I have eaten in Canberra...absolutely scrumptious!
I. R. S.I've never stayed in the hotel, but it has a comprehensive bottle shop with very friendly help and advice, and very reasonable prices. It also has a first rate bistro with a superb budget menu (seafood was perfectly cooked) and full bar-bottle shop service. Not flashy (quite retro 70s), but great food and service at very reasonable prices.

Our car had broken down (totally kaput) and we were a long way from home, but the staff at the Statesman made us feel welcome, helped out everywhere they could, and showered us with kindness. They went above and beyond, and made what could have been a horror weekend very pleasant. The hotel was impeccably clean, very comfortable, and pleasant. Dinner was absolutely delicious. Thank you to the staff, our family will be staying there again when we next visit Canberra.
S. G.Lovely staff. I'm 6'5 and usually score hotels on their shower, this one was more than high enough and like standing under a waterfall. I see no reason to stay anywhere else in Canberra.
A. K.3 stars for the 3 star hotel. This place really hits "on par". Nothing spectacular, nothing terrible, prices a little high, but the serving sizes are also a little big. Food was fine, beers fairly priced, decor was confused, local regulars were rowdy, sports on the TV. Just your average local pub really. We had a really good night in the end and weren't disappointed. I wouldn't plan anything formal here though.
A.Stayed for two nights recently. Booked online hassle-free and got a great rate. We asked for an upstairs room as our preference and they accommodated our request and promptly confirmed by email which was really nice.
As some people have pointed out it may look a bit outdated and dull inside and out, but that doesn't take anything away from a rather pleasant stay overall.
The standard queen bed room was compact but clean and comfortable. It was quiet and we had a sound sleep both nights. Free wifi, tea/coffee and biscuits were there. Also had a microwave and bathroom amenities.
The person at the reception was super friendly.
A big plus for me was the secure car parking on the premises. It had a bistro/bar and a bottle shop under the same roof which was handy for a quick evening meal and drinks if you can't be bothered going out after a long day. We had an evening meal at the pub there and it was rather good.
Also it's well situated with a Coles and some small shops and a cafe (had our breakfast there) just next to the hotel. And finally it's about 15 mins drive to the centre of Canberra so it's great location.
I will certainly stay there again for our next visit to Canberra!
L. R.Fantastic stay here. Welcoming and incredibly generous, with lovely clean rooms. Highly recommend this place for a very comfortable and homely stay, away from home. Very helpful and thoughtful staff , with amazing manager Michelle- willing to go above and beyond. Had an upgrade to a beautiful suite and accommodated us to fit an extra friend in at the last minute. Nothing was too much trouble. Stay here- you won’t be disappointed! Couldn't have asked for more. Will definitely make this the place of choice for Canberra in the future.
d. m.Very friendly reception staff and the wildlife in the front atrium (two turtles and a blue tongue lizard) are a real treat. Tidy room with comfy bed. The room was deadly quiet and I had one of the best sleeps ever. We had a two night booking and had no expectation of service after the first night yet the room was made-up ready for our second night.

When considering a hotel three things weight the most for me: how clean it is, how good is the shower and how good is the bed. The Statesman got 5 stars in all, good sheets, multiple pillows with varying densities to choose from the shower was spacious and with good water pressure and as far as I could see the room and the shared areas were well clean.
A. A.Nice hotel at a convenient location. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Rooms have all the basic amenities. I wish they could add power point near the bed so that one can use the phone when it's getting charged. They happily allow early check-in based on the availability of the room.

The rooms are small, gives you just about space to move around a bit and crash for the night.
There is no elevator or I couldn't locate it with directions or signages.

Tried to book room service twice first time took awhile but second one was on a Saturday and they had some function on so they took the phone off the hook and I had to go down and order food so just be aware on busy days.
Rooms are ok clean and tidy just need a lick of paint in some places and secure parking is good.
Good location for sightseeing.
A. c.Good accomodation, good price and convenient location. We have stayed here a few times and been down to the hotel for a few meals. Beer is great, nice and cold, food is not so great. Eaten here a few times but probably never will again. Pizzas are over priced and very average. Not really nice at all. Other food is basic and over priced. This would be a great place if you could replace kitchen staff and find someone who could cook.

The room was clean and fairly spacious for the price. Excellent value for money. Will definitely stay again if I am coming back to Canberra.
F. D.For the price we paid, it's a great hotel. In the best condition but was very clean, good beds, good shower and enough goodies to keep you going overnight. Wi-fi did not for me. Tiny toilet. Good location - only 7 minutes to the zoo and arboretum. The family loved the cooked breakfasts.
B. J.The Statesman Hotel is the usual Australian urban pub. It's comfortable and clean, and the beer is cold and the patrons are friendly.
I haven't tried the Statesman counter meals but the menu looked good.
I'll head back there soon for a meal and a beer and time with friends. It's good to have a 'local' again.
A. P.The rooms were average and consisted very average accomadation (tv are pretty bad, odour is disgusting And the bedding is strange and uncomfortable). The location is great but there aren't much positives from my two night stay. Certainly would not recommend this hotel.
T. M.Hotel location is good if you have a car. Balcony rooms are a good size and ***y look out into the beautiful trees. Staff were helpful and friendly. Certainly not the type I would have at home and clearly cheap. I will definitely stay here again next time I am in Canberra.
I. S.Came here for a meal only. Despite being a local Canberran, no idea that there are pub meals available here. Found the interior a bit dim and hard to read the menus. The food was nice, rump steak with veges, reasonably priced.

W. D.Good location, close to shops and reasonably central, but the rooms are small and dated. No electric blankets. No overhead lighting - only bedside lamps and a light over the mirror - so too dark for any work or reading. Oversoft pillows. Secure parking, but not enough and spaces too small for large vehicles. Restaurant is actually the pub bistro, and no other dinner options nearby. Bistro meals were good and room service was available. Coles supermarket close by. A couple of good coffee shops close by for breakfast. Overall, adequate but not flash.
T. M.I generally stay elsewhere when visiting Canberra but chose the States*** because it was close to my grand children. We ordered room service from the attached restaurant and it arrived quickly and was delicious. Attached to the accommodation section is a great Bar and Bistro so you don't have to venture outside the premises.
B. B.Venus 2 duo stayed here. Great accommodation, Paid for standard room and was upgraded to spacious room with balcony. Clean, comfortable, good position, nice helpful staff, lock up carpark. Standard rooms are just as good only slightly smaller. I would recommend this motel. Rooms are exactly as pictured
F. R. V.Family room with twin and single bed was slightly small, but definitely fine for the low price. Weekend breakfast was only from 8am onwards, which was too late for us. WiFi didn't work.

Rude as customer was very rude and arrogant to the waiter, there was maybe 90 seconds between husbands plate and wifes plate, but wife had to make a song and dance over it and calling the waiter names.
As this is not the fault of the statesman hotel and especially the waiter, the 5 stars stay there as this was a customer not the business. It would have been worse if I was the waiter, I would have kicked them out and started much more drama than happened here today.
Can't fault the old dude I think he was Greek, he would be the oldest waiter I've ever seen. Took the verbal abuse on the chin but with dignity. Customer put me off my schnitzel but appitite returned when she stopped.
If I could give a sixth star for the hotel hiring the old bloke I would (he's probably part of the family though)

R. S.Great staff, very cheerful and helpful. If you have a problem they make sure so solve it quickly. The room was cosy and comfortable. Plenty of space and great, clean amenities and rooms. The only thing I think would be great as many others have also noted down, more easy access to power points for charging phones, cameras and other power/ USB devices. They provide free wifi and secure parking. The pub/bistro is also nice and relaxed. Bar staff are helpful and cheerful. Food is good and for the first time I have ever had a chicken schnitzel served with seafood. A kind of surf and turf chicken style. I had my doubts but it was well cooked and presented. Chicken was not over cooked and was juicy inside, seafood was fresh and well cooked as well. Bar also serves pints, always a bonus! This is the second time my partner and I have stayed at this hotel and it has been great and enjoyable. Close to everything, Coles, post office, liquor store. Also short drive to Woden Westfield and the Royal Australian Mint (Definite must see, with free tours twice a day.), Short drive to Canberra city and other great Canberra locations. Will definitely stay again. I wouldn't say it is not the best place to stay in Canberra, however for the price, can't go wrong.
R. R.I always stay at The Statesman, the rooms are clean and comfortable. The Restaurant in the Hotel has a new owner and is Italian themed and well presented.
R. T.Despite the name, the Statesman Hotel is anything but a place for Statesmen. If you want a quiet beer during the day, it's got a good selection of beers on tap, but you'll have to be ok with hanging out with 'the regulars' who can get rowdy though they hang out in the designated smoking area. Food was passable but lacklustre. I'll go back for the beer and the opening hours.

T. M.On a quick visit to Canberra for a doctor visit, this hotel was perfect. Good value for money. Clean and just retiled and repainted. Hotel is out of town, but as anywhere is easy to get to in Canberra it felt I was only a short drive away from any of the local attractions.

There is a reasonable selection of beers but if you’re looking for anything crafty, or just not a big market beer, you’ve come to the wrong place.
Definitely worth the time spent, I highly recommend it as a once a week visit for those living in the Woden/Weston region, for an easy, relaxed and authentic hotel pub feel.

I. A.The Statesman had everything I needed for my two-night stay. Reception staff were friendly and very helpful. Service in the restaurant was speedy and the meal (risotto) flavoursome.
A. C.Renovated rooms, good parking. Fire alarm went off in the morning due to some problems which we don't know was one of the problems we had there. Close to the centre of town and restaurants. Recommended for family with kids. Laundry available.

We left some personal items behind in our room and the staff called us after we had checked out to come and collect them, which was refreshingly honest. The room was warm and toasty when we arrived. Its the little things that make a difference.

I.The Statesman is my favorite hotel in Canberra it's great value, the fact that there's a basin outside the bathroom means someone can shower while doing your hair and makeup or to make coffee, which is Moccona! Always warm and clean, great stay again, not to mention how cental it is to everything
