s. H.A hotel in the most convenient part of CBD. I don't know what other reviews are going on about when they said that the noise from the street bothered them, I absolutely had no such experience.
Though I must say that if anyone is talking in the hall outside then you can hear them, same goes the other way too.
The staff is extremely polite and professional, hence the service was amazing.
The only thing that may bother you is the size of the rooms because you might find other hotels for the same price.

E. G.Room was small but well laid out and good enough for my short stay, the shower was nicely done the hot water and water pressure were fantastic. Tv had Netflix app so I could log onto my account, plenty of milk coffee and tea available in the room on a nice little bench. Bed was so comfortable and pillows felt new.
Some of the hall ways are in need of a really good update but the hotel is in the process of refurbishment.
Although a lot of hotels in have the standard breakfast this hotel had a bit more variety which was a nice touch.
The bus from the airport stops at the bus station which is two streets away. The walk wasn’t a problem and it saved me having to get a $50 Uber from the airport. The free tram to the city centre is within two streets either side of the hotel, small walk.
All in all I’d book again great value for the money.
D. B.Would had given five stars, if not for the extensive renovation. We were allocated a family room, but the window at the front was stuck open with no way to close it meaning that I had road noise all night, also the room was dusty and some rubbish was under the beds. However, upon complaining the next morning, the lady on reception without question immediately changed us to another newly renovated room at no additional cost. The new room was great. They should not have allocated that old room to anyone really in my view.

The room I stayed is a bit smelly & humid. It should have another mirror in the room besides one in bathroom. No side table lamps in the room. Wifi is slow. Low quality water boiler is staining at bottom.

J. A.The room (family room) was a good size, as was the bathroom. The room was clean and neat on arrival. The concierge staff were exceptionally helpful and polite. We were let down in a number of areas though by housekeeping, including having money stolen by housekeeping on the first day, beds being made incorrectly, dirty shoe prints on the beds, the bathroom not being cleaned and toilet paper not being restocked. We had to go down to concierge twice during our 4 night stay to ask for toilet paper. 1 roll to last 4 nights for 4 adults is not acceptable. Housekeeping significantly let's this establishment down.

But the rooms are too small. I have been to various other countries and cities but i have never found such small rooms. We were 3 people and coming from abroad to spend 25 days in Australia, so had one bag each. The room got occupied with 3 bags. Even the bathroom was also small.
The place was neat and clean. But the house keeping didn't do a good job. The bed was not made up properly. Not even the bathroom cleaned properly.
J. W.This hotel is old, and whilst effort has been made and the rooms are comfortable, the walls are paperthin, causing a lot of lost sleep and embarrassing noises that one really does not want to hear.
If that is not bad enough , the building projects going on next door wake one up very early. Service adequate, but watch out 10 steps up from street so no possibility of anyone unable to walk or carry their own luggage.
Breakfast quite good value and friendly. No other meal services offered.
A.I didn't have the greatest of expectations when booking this hotel. I understood that I wasn't booking a premium hotel, nor a luxury hotel. The bed was comfortable, the room fairly well maintained, bit that's probably where the good finished. Although the reception team were friendly and efficient upon arrival, they were rarely at the desk at other times when I needed to ask questions. Sometimes you'd need to wait five minutes before someone attended. Maybe the GM hasn't factored in that a 24/7 Reception team requires more than one Staff member of they are required to leave the desk at times. The grout between the bathroom tiles was clearly rushed and looked quite messy. There were items of rubbish still in the room upon arrival, under the vanity and under the room chair. The door wasn't sealed, letting light flow through all night directly at your sleeping head from the hallway. The room doors slam ALL NIGHT and the rooms are definitely not even an inch soundproofed. Other than that, my stay was ok.
S. H.Very nice hotel, close to the city center. The staff was really friendly and gave good advices where to go out eat! The room was very good and comfortable. The blankets had a few spots, maybe coffe... the shower door didnt work so well but the facilities were clean and really modern. I would recommend to stay there!

The building is nice some attractive original wooden features such as the staircase and period windows. Overall a little shabby.
Room was ok clean and tidy. The biggest fault for me was a daily lukewarm shower. Water never seemed to run hot enough. Average breakfast served quickly. Felt a little cheated by having to pay $6 to upgrade to a cooked breakfast as opposed to the continental.
Very central location handy to get around the city. Car parking is offered around the corner for $25 a day, can park outside the hotel in a bay to unload etc for a small fee.
Ok to stay but wouldn’t want to stay for more than a couple of nights.
A. H.The location and staff for this hotel were great. The issues were with the room and hotel. Stepping into the fifth floor and apart from over the elevator exit, there is no ceiling. It's just exposed wires, pipes and signs. The hotel is under refurbishment, however even in a refurbished room we had issues such as a lamp that even turned off would flash every 30 seconds, no hand towels, and bed sheets that felt more like paper than fabric.

M. P.Room was a bit outdated and rundown and could really use a renovation. So it's a good thing that the hotel is currently undergoing renovations, which didn't cause any noise during my stay. Bed was very comfortable and bathroom is great. Breakfast is great value for money, and there is a pancake baking machine :).
S. K.Quite neat and tidy. If you are looking for just accomodation for a short stay, this should work just fine. Don't expect anywhere near luxury. It reminds you repeatedly that its a budget accommodation. Service is not consistently same across all staff. One young lady there went out of way to help me out for searching for a lost item in another room I was switched out from. While there are others who are not exactly courteous. And for heaven's sake please have some wardrobes installed in rooms (that's basix!) else you physically live out of suitcases at present! All in all its just about ok for the price they charge.
K. P. L. R.I stayed for 9days and was pleased with the room was always clean. Reception was pleasant and attentive. They never fail in my wake up calls. Location is good only 15mins walk to chinatown and queen Victoria market. Easy access to shopping and eating. Will come back again in near future.
A. C.The hotel is comfortable the room adequate tiny window you can't see out of. Breakfast hmm, well continental no much to eat, no cold counter so fruit and yogurt warm no ham or cheese. Or continental meets. You can get a cooked breakfast pay extra.
But on the bright side the staff and management were very helpful and friendly, the hotel clean and tea and coffee making facilities in the room. And a fridge buy your own food and store it.

R. S.Had a good stay here with good customer service. Although it feels like one old student hostel instead of a hotel. Not so bad but not so good as well.
The breakfast options are healthy for both veg/non veg.
G. S.Booked this place during my holiday trip. I was staying in a room with two beds. Although, this room was quite small, it was neat and tidy, had new furniture and was re-innovated. The only thing that I didn’t like was that my window was facing the back side of the building: fire ladders and some kind of air cons (which were a little bit noisy during the day, but were off during the 2 nights I stayed here). But this was insignificant to me as I spent most of the time in the city outside of my room. The stuff were friendly and offered to place my luggage into a secure room, as my flight was a few hours after checkout, which was handy - I was able to spend a little bit more time in the city before heading down to the airport.
S. T.Rooms are small and very basic. But courtesy of the staffs make up for it. The best thing about it is the location of the hotel with multiple food joints nearby. One thing they can surely improve is the quality of the breakfast.

m.For the $80 I paid for a single room, these people went over and above the call of duty, outstanding service. The rooms were clean and have everything you need. The only fault was I could hear other people coming in and out of their rooms. Highly recommended!

N.This hotel is conveniently located, directly in the heart of the Melbourne CBD and close to landmarks such as Southern Cross Station, Old Melbourne Gaol, Melbourne Museum, Queen Victoria Building, and the State Library of Victoria amongst others. While the location is incredibly convenient, the rooms themselves (including the bathrooms) are very small and not very practical. There's no point having a TV in your room if there is no viable angle at which to watch it. The heater and air conditioner in our room very both very loud and the floors didn't look like they had been cleaned properly prior to us arriving. Other than this, I did find the staff very welcoming and the service generally quite good. I'd happily stay here again but it isn't a hotel that I'd use for a 5 star relaxing weekend away.
S. Z.The room is the size of a shoe box, but it is neat and functional. Bathroom has been nicely done up and is pleasant to use. But, the "continental" breakfast they serve is not what an European would call it. Maybe they meant to say African continental, but it is certainly neither Australian nor European. There is no trace of protein in it. It is a mish-mash of sugars and fats. If you like fruit, muesli and yoghurt, fine, but if you are at least expecting to get a boiled egg, you will be sorely disappointed. Not at all good value for money, I'd say.
M. L.Great hotel at a reasonable price. Decent rooms with basic renovated bathrooms. Southern Cross Station is very nearby do it convenient when coming to the airport. The only negative is their old heaters sometimes make loud rattling noises even when switched off, which can wake you in the middle of the night!

Well priced rooms for central Melbourne over Easter break 2019. We had full cooked breakfast each morning at their breakfast cafe. Great start to the day 😀
S. D.The best was comfortable but I had some issues. The sink would not drain, the wifi was very poor, and the Air conditioning would not heat the room up, lastly there was a draft from the windows that just seeped away what heat was in there. It was cheap and we were upgraded for free but it was by no means an ideal expierence.

B. W.Stayed here for a night to bridge the gap between our arrival in Melbourne and staying at a friends house in St. Kilda. The room was very reasonably priced (first week in January, so I assume a lot of places had cut price rooms going after New Year).
We arrived earlier than the advertised check in room but were informed by the incredibly cheerful receptionist that if we were happy with a ground floor room that we could check in immediately; we were tired and just keen to explore so happily took the room. The room was spotlessly clean and spacious and absolutely fine for our requirements. The location is incredibly close to the Southern Cross station; great if you have been out of town on the train or taking the skybus in from the airport.
Melbourne has a great transport network but from here you really feel like you are in the heart of things; there are a wealth of trams around the corner that can get you out to most areas with relative ease. From here you can be on the South bank within around 20 minutes walking time, which has a wealth of restaurants and bars.
All in all, a great location - would happily stay again if I was stuck without accommodation in Melbourne!
L. S.Stayed 3 nights in triple room when my family went to Melbourne for Christmas vacation. The hotel is not new, but we like its strategic location. This hotel is near Southern Cross Station and free tram zone. Bedroom is clean and fits for three person. Bathroom is rather cramped but clean. The receptionist is friendly and responds quickly to guest complaints. Highly recommended and value for money.

I asked for a quiet room, and got one off the road, with a window to an internal courtyard / light well. It was pretty quiet, though a little small.

As per others comments, the room was acceptable but the building and fit out is a little run down. I suppose at the price paid you get what you pay for. Room was small but clean. There was adequate towels etc in bathrooms and you didn’t feel too put out. You can see from some of the photos however that the interior was certainly worn.
Overall certainly acceptable but not a glamour location.

Note that the shower is wild though - alternates from boiling hot to freezing cold as you're showering (with maybe 10 seconds of lukewarm middle ground if you're lucky). Be ready to jump backwards to save your skin.
