H. W.I lived in 16 beds dormitory. It just has two toilets on ground floor near the hall and two toilets for males on 2nd floor living area. Not convenient if there were many people living in.
Another problem is the height of pillow is too short that cause strain of your neck.
I only recommend for few day stay as it has a good location near southern Cross station only.

L.4.5 stars great fellow travells great amenities apart from the kitchen that was a bit small close to entertainment,transport had a 6 bed dorm to myself across from the toilets staff were excellent especially while checking out i left something in my room they helped me get it. The only bad things apart from a small kitchen was if you wanted a coffee in the morning theres only 4 mugs. Fellow travellers were not really sociable apart from a few and it was a little loud outside at the hotel across from the backpackers all in all i would rate 4.5 if it let me

C.There are cleaners everyday who usually tidy up the hostel. Staff is usually chill and helpful, although there is constantly new staff. Made a lot of good friends here. Great place to make new travelling friends of all ages. Only gripe was when I was there it was constantly cold in the room and the covers didn't do anything. Usually had to sleep with sweaters and full clothes on. Im sure this is probably not the case now since it's the summer time - I was there in September.
E. S. E.This is an nice hostel in Melbourne the reasons are Firstly, the hostel is located in prime location just steps away from train station, restaurants, bars, pubs and clubs.
Max the manager has a character of humbleness, politeness, responsible and very responsive to the guests queries.
In particular Emily has been friendly throughout the time since I have been here and very helpful, similarly rest of the staff.
The rooms are filled with decent size beds, pillow and duvet that are cleaned in regular basis.
Decent size Kitchen where anyone can cook anything, then nice sitting area to enjoy the meal. Hostel hosts new events everyday,
Free Pancakes on Sunday, free wine on Wednesday etc.
Guests needs to be more responsible in keeping the rooms clean.
This hostel do their best in keeping the premises neat and tidy.
Free breakfast from 7am to 9am. If you are travelling for short time, definitely worth trying this hostel anytime and any day. Cheers
C. G.Pretty good. Staff were nice rooms clean and other guests friendly. Common area/ kitchen a bit small. Free WiFi is great but there's a download limit. Activities every night. It was right next to the skybis terminal so getting there from the airport was a breeze.
N. L.Pretty good hostel in the city center. Awesome public transport connection, very good wifi works all hours, and cleaner than the other hostels as there is an external cleaning service who thoroughly cleans the hostel, bathrooms and kitchen. Only weird thing with the cleaners is that they clean the kitchen around 1-1.30pm, which is always when people are still cooking and they have to get out of the kitchen. Kitchen is equipped with the basics (although no free oil, salt or pepper), free breakfast is good but early (7-9am). Was in the 16 beds room and it was very quiet, everyone has a large locker and bathrooms are old-fashioned and a bit broken, but always very clean. Beds were comfortable, only there is quite few plugs around the beds to charge stuff. The lounge area can be crowded sometimes. All in all a good hostel for a few nights to explore the city! 👍🏼

L. J.This hostel is great. Huge with variety accomodation available. No negatives besides those who leave a bit of filth in kitchen and that really includes the tampon bins in the bathrooms.
Besides that, really close to good eats nearby and nothing wrong with the rest of the bathroom. Free wifi available and book corner.
Common areas are exceptionally clean, except the kitchen sink.
A large staff team operate the hostel. Very courteous.

R. K.One of the few places where you get to meet people from a lot of countries, exchange ideas and culture, cook your own meal and learn new cuisines from foreigners. Very warm and cosy place. It's the place I stayed at when I first landed in Australia. Staff are always nice... Recommended for budget travellers who don't mind sharing rooms and other facilities.

What I didn't like in my stay was the toilets - very unclean. But all in all, I had a good experience, so I would recommend this over other hostels in Melbourne.

Free meals is pretty average, movie night is a movie playing in the living room, projected on the wall with lights on and people talking. Room size alright.

Lots of nice people here from all over the world, great place to meet other people with a great atmosphere. Rooms are comfy too. Free breakfast is great with free flow tea coffee and there is spaghetti night, pancake Sunday... much better than some other similar hostels in the area and worth your buck.
C. L.Stayed a few months in this hostel. The management probably changed since then, so my review has to be taken lightly.
It was a nice place to stay in, very well situated near Southern Cross station, Coles, good restaurants, trams, QVM... The place is rather clean, the kitchen can get dirty when there's too many people or during the weekend. The rooms are quite quiet, of course depends with who you are with in the room. It's a good hostel to socialize because of all the activities they have.
I left because living in a hostel for too long gets tiring and the management was getting weird about long term people. They started giving random reasons to kick out our group which had been staying for a while. They prohibited one of our friends from even entering the hostel because he had stayed a few nights for free and had been caught. When he tried to reenter they threatened to kick out close friends because they were apparently the only reason why he came back in the hostel.
Anyway, the hostel is nice I would recommend it, not for too long because like every hostel I guess drama just comes by.
J. M.The hostel is on a busy street next to a pedestrian crossing, a strip club, and another hostel. Many people from both hostels gather outside the front door to smoke. This makes the rooms very noisy at almost all hours. The blinds are nearly transparent, letting in light. The free breakfast is toast and jam, an absolute scam. Not even the decency to give cereals. The bathrooms, halls and bins are cleaned once a day. The bathroom drainage is terrible, with shower water flowing over nearly the whole floor. Do not expect any tourist information from staff.
f. d.Bathroom, kitchen and rooms quite clean. Each bed has got a small lamp and top bunk has a proper scale (it's not often the case). There is free breakfast every morning and a few other free meals during the week ( I didn't try these ones).
The staff is very nice and helpful.
The location is very convenient when you arrive late from the airport for example ( just next to the train station where the shuttle drops you).
Bad point : bed bugs ..., only 2 computers, some of my stuff have been stolen in the luggage room ..
K. M.rooms are good, though hot. even the 16ppl rooms are well designed to feel as if their not over crowded with the use of walls breaking the room into sections.
showers and toilets are clean but small.
kitchen is good size though the only fridge is crammed to full with food.
reception are helpul.
5 starts is given for events most nights (pasta night or wine and cheese night) and a general good vibe with the people
K.I stayed here for a week travelling solo. It was alright I appreciated the free pasta on Wednesday and pancakes on Sunday, the free breakfast would have been better if they had more than one toaster. I slept in a 4 person share and it was OK. The bed was pretty comfy. The air con over night was very loud but I appreciated having it. The bathrooms were pretty gross. No where to hang your towel in the shower? Also the majority of people there seemed to be working, I've moved to the YHA down the street and already met three times as many travellers. The saving grace is that its not too expensive but honestly if you're travelling alone I wouldn't recommend it.
J. K.I had a good time in this hostel. Staff especially ericka was very friendly and opened to help. Very social hostel with lots of nice people.
The only downside is that wifi really sucked there. My laptop would reach the daily limit early in the morning and many times the connection dropped all of the sudden.
If they would raise the daily wifi limit from 500MB to 1GB it would have been great.
N. F.It,s a very nice place to stay,the free breakfast,free pancakes on Sunday are awesome! The entire hostel has had one heck of a facelift with major colourful,eye opening paintwork attraction on all levels,and the furniture along with support benches and adjustable chairs are excellent too. And the floors look like they have been re-furbished too.And a lot more power points are installed in all places wherever u sit in the common room,that u can keep your phone,laptop,etc recharged. And In the rooms they have new window curtains,a lot easier to open and close to keep outside lighting down to dark for bedtime. Airconditioning is great too. Only thing is that there is not many power points in the rooms,especially by bedside to plug in phone charger,etc,without going either to one end of the room for one. Depends on which vacant bed u get when u check in. Otherwise it,s great to see some very major touch-up improvements done thru the entire hostel.
L. D.Cool place, only stayed one night for comic con, but it was warm, the bed was pretty comfy (if squeaky) and the night noise level was pretty good for location. And so close to southern cross for such a good price. The staff were so friendly to, they loved us in our cosplay the next morning. Definitely going back, such a great find

I didnt have the best experience at Melbourne city backpackers but I did my best to have a good time. My 25 night holiday was cut into 7 nights. Im keen to go back to Melbourne in the winter months and stay at Melbourne City backpackers. I will learn from my mistakes but would be nice to be contacted to fix up payment issues rather than being cancelled and not notified and finding out at the last minute when its fully booked and going through the stress of checking out at the last minute

The location is perfect. In the city center, really close to the public transports and shops. 5minutes walking to the bus to go to the airport.
All the hostel is really clean and the staff is so friendly and helpful.

We travel to the Est Coast and they make posible to leave the baggage there for free.

D. C.All you need! Just a place to sleep, you shouldnt really be staying here for the views or to use the Wifi the offer. Really cheap, and great value for money! Wifi is good, but not great. Can only use in the common room, it wont reach the dorms. Staff average, but that is what I was expecting.
A. O.The people working there are really kind and helpful. It is a bit dirty bit mostly depends on your roomates. The wifi is fast but its only available in the lobby. The free breakfast consist in bread for toast and marmelade and cereal.
I will definetly recomend it for the week rate.

林.(Translated) The location is very good, you can go to the train station bus station for free light rail and hypermarket in five minutes, you can say full marks. Then the room was a bit small, but because I didn't live full when I lived, I felt it was okay, the bed was very comfortable to sleep, the roommate was not noisy, the room was heated all day, and I could sleep in a short vest. Winter is not cold. Then wifi is only available in the lobby. It is usually used to check the information, but it is not enough to upload photos or watch videos. The attitude of the service staff is not bad. I think it is clean. The biggest disadvantage is that there is no elevator. I climbed the fourth floor with my 30kg, but I will choose this room next time.

位置很好，走五分鐘就可以到火車站公車站免費輕軌和大賣場，可以說滿分。然後房間有點點小，但因為我住的時候沒有住滿人，所以也覺得還好，床睡起來挺舒服的，室友也不吵，房間那一層整天都有暖氣，可以直接穿短褲背心睡覺冬天都不會冷。然後wifi只有大廳有，平常用來查資料可以，但用來上傳照片或看影片就不行。服務人員態度都還不錯，清潔性我也覺得可以，最大缺點是沒有電梯，我扛著我的30公斤爬了四樓，但下次有機會還是會選擇這一間來住。
