Such an amazing place with beautiful people the management is amazing… The Utilities are always clean and it’s a comfortable Hostel to stay whether it’s short-term or long term I recommend pirates Backpackers freemantle… ❤️💯❤️

Great, quiet and comfortable hostel in the heart of freo. Owner is super kind and welcoming. Super accomodating and wants to make everyone feel at home. Other hostels in the area are insanely filthy and run by perma drunk and stoned 20 year old backpackers. There’s a responsible adult running the place here and it shows. will definitely stay here when I’m back in Fremantle.

This is the best hostel in Freo!!! The owner is super nice, friendly and helpful. It’s very clean, cozy and feels like home. It has a beautiful garden in the back. I definitely recommend this hostel!

Amazing place and wonderful owner, who was generous with his time and readily offered help during my stay in Fremantle. Pirates Backpackers is a comfortable and friendly home-away-from-home.

Super friendly hostel, great group of people and a cute little jungle garden with fairy lights out the back - perfect place to relax in the sun 😊 loved my stay at Pirates, would 100% return!

Great cozy backpacker hostel. Owner is great and always around. Building is old and a bit worn, but very homely! A few cockroaches around, but that's expected in a city hostel.
Edit: Wrote the above after just a few days and wanted to add a little; this plce is truly great with an awesome vibe. The owner really runs this place well! Daily events ranging from a party now and then, activities, excursions, movie nights, and meals/drink. All cheap or free! The staff also takes good care of the place! Best hostel I've stayed in!

What a week! Pirates is one of the best hostels I've stayed at. Love the atmosphere, the people, the team. This hostel has the best manager I've ever come across. Thank you Sarah! Being a small hostel you quickly become friends with a lot of people. It feels like family. The owner knows everyone's name, introduces you to a lot of people when you're new and and provides many activities and trips every week. I'll definitely be back in a couple of weeks!

Pirates backpackers is by far one of the best hostels I have stayed in during my travels in Australia. It literally is like a home away from home. The hostel is small so you are able to get to know everyone there pretty quickly, which helps enhance that family feeling, which you grow to love and appreciate about pirates. The rooms and kitchen are very clean and organised so you will be sure your stay is comfortable and pleasant. Lastly the staff is friendly and overall amazing always willing to help you out and organize lots of fun activities throughout the week. I highly recommend staying here if you are headed to Fremantle!

For staying at pirates for almost a year, I feel like writing a review is almost mandatory but I honestly have no idea where to start. I guess I’ll start with the most important thing: the atmosphere in this hostel; it’s amazing! As soon as you’ve been here a couple of days it feels like you’re at home. When I arrived, Natasha was the day time manager and was for a great deal responsible for the family vibe in the hostel. A month later Natasha departed the ship. All the long term guests - including me - were very sad to hear this. We all thought that this would be the end of pirates as we all knew it… we could not have been more wrong! As soon as Niav Konno boarded the ship, the bearing was restored and we were all sailing towards the sun again! A few months later I accepted the role of being the night manager of the hostel and I got to work together with Niav, Jan and Vaughan (the owner) to make the hostel a better place for everyone. I truly enjoyed this period and I would do it all over again in a heartbeat. The reason I gave four stars and not five is the state of the hostel. The building is reasonably old and not very well maintained. The cleaners try their best to keep the place clean but unfortunately the age of the place works against them. If these issues would be resolved in the future, the hostel would deserve a full five star rating!

Beautiful little hostel right in the centre of Freo! Pirates is a small hostel with a chilled out, family vibe so it's really easy easy to socialise with guests and staff. Daily activities are a great touch, during my stay i enjoyed free yoga, wine and cheese, beach volleyball etc. Having stayed in many hostels in Perth area, this has to be my favourite as the hostel crew really cater to the international backpacker (not so much long-term workers like other hostels). Reasonable prices and solid facilities - huge locker with padlock next to my bed was a big plus! My 6-bed dorm room clean and comfy. Highly recommended. I will be back! Thanks Pirates.

Came for a week, stayed for a month until my time was up in Fremantle. Seriously good atmosphere, with fun and mature people. Super easy to get to know people and become part of the group. Excellent staff that takes care of you. I'm still missing this place after I left. To be perfectly complete, I would also say that the facilities are a bit old and could use a brush up. But after some time you don't notice anymore.

A really nice hostel to stay and enjoy the wonderful city of Fremantle. Every day there are activities organised by the owners of the hostel, so you never have to be bored when you don't know what to do. The rooms are nice, and there is a lounge where you can relax and get to know the other habitants of the hostel. I would definitely recommend to stay in this hostel!

Pirates backpackers is a great hostel set in the heart of Fremantle where everything is literally just a few minutes’ walk away. The thing that makes it such an awesome place though are the people there. The owner Vaughn has done an amazing job of creating a great ambiance and puts in a large amount of time and effort organizing fun activities and outings for everyone at the hostel. The staff are a great group of people (all girls while I was there, is there a secret strategy behinds this….?) Sara works the front desk and helps with everything from checking in to helping people find jobs, Katie watches over guests at night and keeps people in line, Tash works hard taking care of things on the weekend so everyone else can enjoy their time off, plus a few others whose names I’m embarrassed to say I’ve forgotten but who work hard to keep the hostel clean and running efficiently. If you’re just looking for any old place to stay than Pirates probably isn’t for you, but if you’re looking for a place where there’s lots happening, loads of great people, and a place that quickly starts to feel like home, then look no further than Pirates!

I first only stayed for 2 nights and then ended up extending for another week. If you look for a social hostel with cool people and chilled vibes, this is the place. Close to the Fremantle Market and the beaches. Thanks to Tasha, the receptionist, she is super attentive! Book direct with them and if you stay a week it's cheaper ;).

Pirates was great! the rooms were clean, the facilities functional and the staff friendly/helpful.
The proximity to the Freo markets was good and the day trips provided by Vaughn were awesome!
I would recommend Pirates to any backpacker and staying there for a week and a half I made some really good friends.

A really great hostel. In fact, I found it more like a big shared house really. The staff and owner are great and get right involved. There were great activities all week. We had a movie night outside with a big screen and free icecream. Then we had beach volleyball, a trip to Kings Park and a boat trip. And the surfing was my highlight. Thanks.
N. K.
Best hostel in Fremantle!! This is the place to go as a solo traveller. Has the best social atmosphere and I made some great friends and memories there. Vaughan and the crew set up daily activities which range from surfing and paddle boarding to BBQs and free entry to dance clubs. I'll be back guys!

Great few weeks spent at Pirates Backpackers! Every week, a board is full of activities like snorkeling, rock climbing, movie/pop corn, beach volley, run... and a lot of them are free! I had a really good time there, with all Pirates crew. I stayed in few others backpackers and Pirates is the only one where I saw the owner involved. I really felt like at home, in my nice cosy bedroom. It's a clean hostel, and the courtyard is comfortable and welcoming. I will go back there for sure. Thanks Pirates!

It really feels like home.
Pirates Backpackers was my first hostel in Australia. I've been staying here for almost 3 months now and I'm enjoying every minute of being here.
Good:
- free WiFi (but very slow at busy times)
- 4 bathrooms (Showers are not that great but they do their job. I've seen much worse)
- good job offers, staff always keeps you up to date (had some quiet times during the summer, but that's not their fault obviously)
- free kitchen equipment, so you don't need to get your own stuff
- TV room with sooo many movies
- washers and dryers
- free lockers (10$ deposit)
- very friendly staff and people
- super cheap tours !
- location in Fremantle is perfect (close to the harbour, shopping centres and train/bus stations)
- nights are very silent, except for weekends
Could be better:
- kitchen is quite small
- TV is too silent, with all the noise around in the evening you can't hear anything
- you "only" get 1 hour of internet on their desktop PCs when booking a whole week, otherwise you'll have to pay for internet
- some beds are noisy and could use new mattresses
- bathrooms looked very dirty at some times, but that depends on the people that are with you during your stay
Again, I really enjoyed my stay at Pirates Backpackers and if I ever come back to Perth, this will be the place to be.
Feel free to contact me (Google+) if you have any questions about this place.

Pirates has been my big family in Australia, I'm so happy for have been here. Amazing is the owner meets you and makes you feel welcome and introduces you to everyone. He also does trips all the time and activities for you every week. I have never seen this in another hostel. I miss Pirates already.

Loved my time at Pirates Backpackers! Niav and the team were all extremely welcoming and made our stay in Fremantle unforgettable. Great vibes and great people. Would definitely recommend Pirates to anyone!

Pirates is, hands down, the best hostel I've ever stayed at. I've been travelling for 18 months hitting all the major travel stops (as well as a few less major ones) and staying in hostels from India to China and all through Southeast Asia and Australia and Pirates absolutely beats them all.
This is a true home away from home. For a start it's not a purpose built type mini-hotel type hostel. It's set up more like a large family home. This helps not only with first impressions but also with the feeling of community. The rooms are all good sized but feel more like a bedroom you'd share with your siblings at home than a dorm for randomers. The private rooms are excellent with TV, fridge, and a double bunk and all great sized. The common room has cosy sofas and a TV with a USB which has about a million films on it and everyone just relaxes and watches films together. The kitchen is smaller than a lot of hostels I've been in but this is actually a bonus. Instead of a giant industrial scale restaurant style kitchen (or one solitary hob and tiny fridge among 40) there's plenty of space to all cook together but the layout and decor is just like a family kitchen at a family home and it makes it feel like you're cooking dinner with one big giant family. Add to that the staff (Vaughan, Sarah, Katie, and Tasha) are all the nicest people you could meet. They're warm, friendly and remember not only your name but your birthday! When my birthday fell during my stay at pirates I got a handwritten note from Vaughan as well as a Pirates stubby holder complete with cold beer! And the activities are not to be missed. There is something happening at Pirates every night of the week. When I was there we had on offer trips to Bounce! (a trampolining centre, which was a big highlight for me), trips to the cinema, trips to the beach, surfing trips, trips to national parks, trips to visit Perth tourist spots, trips to see kangaroos, ice skating, and loads more I can't even remember. And every Friday Vaughan comes down and does a free BBQ for everyone. Most weeks there's a movie night with free popcorn and a potluck supper as well which is a great way to meet people and hang out. (And its central location in the heart of stylish Fremantle just seconds away from the beach and the famous Fremantle Markets doesn't hurt either!) And best of all - they have a cat! Ceefa is my favourite thing about Pirates - long may she continue! She made staying at Pirates really REALLY feel like home since I miss my cat every every day. I loved every minute of my stay at Pirates and I wouldn't stay anywhere else in Perth EVER.

This place proves that small hostels are the way to go. I got to know most of the people pretty quick and even got to know the owner. First time this happens! He even organised activities for us.
The hostel itself is clean and organised. In a great location.
At a backpackers level this is 5 star. I highly recommend.

Had a lovely time at Pirates ! There's always plenty of activities going on and there's always someone there up for a chat or a game of pool. The hostel's motto is ''your home away from home" and that's clearly what it felt like for me. Thanks Vaughan and Tasha!

Amazing hostel, very friendly staff and the owner is the best! Only bad thing that I can think of is the lack of toilets. But clean and otherwise perfect. A lot of amazing people stay here as well!

The right management and balance in a hostel. Looked after enough to care for the customer without overzealous rules. Nice experience without the wrong crowd

A small and personal hostel that really felt like a shared home. It was kept clean. The staff were lovely and it was nice to have a seat at reception and chat. The owner was a nice guy with loads of stories. He has been there for 15 years I think. My favourite part is the garden courtyard = so relaxing and beautiful.
