Great location. Friendly, helpful staff. Cool amenities, culture & community. As it is a backpackers, Yha isn’t the cleanest or fanciest of places to stay. Rooms are small & simple with obvious signs of usage over the years. A certain unpleasant smell wafts through the hallway on level 8. The bathrooms are not the cleanest. Overall good place to stay - for price & location! Roftop pool and cinema is a cool bonus

There is a huge difference between a private room with shared bath, and a private room with ensuite (which comes with electric kettle and TV). Kitchen is not so well equipped -- you may want to bring your cutting knife, pots & pans if you are planning to cook meals. Overall, very nice staff and comfortable stay.

Only the kitchen space stopped me from giving it a 5 and that's picking holes really. For the numbers of the hostel it made the kitchens seem a bit small and could've been maintained a bit better but it is a hostel after all. Staff were super friendly and helpful, we were upgraded from a dorm to an ensuite double by Jennifer who had realised we weren't booked into the same dorm although travelling together. Thanks Jennifer!! The room was more like a wee hotel room complete with a TV if you're into that. Loads of common space to mingle and rooftop is a pretty cool hangout spot. Well done 👍

A perfect location for anything you may want to do in Sydney and beyond. So close to Chinatown and Darling Harbour, with many more places within an easy walking distance, such as Hyde Park, Pitt Street mall and circular Quay (or you can always use the light rail if you prefer not to walk). Buses to the eastern suburbs and more popular destinations super close too. My partner and I stayed in a private room with our own ensuite, and the room was extremely clean and tidy. Beautiful colourful art, and a tv, kettle, tea and coffee. It was nice to have towels provided, too. Amazing for the price of the room! There is a rooftop pool and terrace, which was lovely and. Great place to overlook the city and watch the sunset. There are lockers available for guests who arrive early or wish to explore the city after check out, which are priced well and means you don't need to drag your stuff about while you explore. Everything really was amazing, but the best part was the warm welcome we received from the beautiful Carmen who checked us in. She was so incredibly sweet and helpful, she really made the whole experience so wonderful. Thank you so much for Carmen for making our return to Sydney so exciting and special. We will absolutely return for another stay soon 🙂

Best hostel in Sydney! I have been here for almost 3 weeks now and having been around lots of hostels around the city I can happily say that this is one of the best. Very clean and taken care of. Very spacious rooms. All anti-covid rules followed. The staff is amazing and always happy to help. A special thank to Jennifer who I think is the manager of the hostel. She was the first one I met in the Hostel, always nice and keen to help out how she can. Highly recommended!

Good cheap overnight accommodation when you come in from one train at night, and your next train isn't until morning. Best part, is that it be down the elevator and across the street from Sydney Central Train Station.

Stayed here for 1 night, stayed in 4 bed female dorm room. Due to COVID-19 social distancing restrictions, I was the only one in the room. There may have been another occupant if there had been more bookings. Only 2 beds were fitted with the linen sheets. Great location for a few nights stay, close proximity to George St restaurants and Central railway station. Checked in quickly and staff are prepared to answer any questions you may have.

The rooms are comfortable. There is construction for the new light rail which can make it hard to sleep at night and to sleep-in in the morning. Other then that its a cheap comfortable place to stay. The kitchen is really large and alot of people can use it at one time. The pool and the sauna are a nice perk too.

Great staff, friendly people all around, awesome common areas and the rooms and bathrooms are pretty clean. It's situated in a really convenient area and the attached cafe meant that breakfast and coffee were close when we needed it. The rooftop pool and kitchen/eating area were great too, and made for nice places to relax and meet other people. The rooms and bathrooms weren't perfect, but for what you pay they were great. Will definitely stay here again!

Honestly, this is a great hostel! It's location is very central and they have a cozy cafe adjacent to the hostel, which was really practical for breakfast. Aside from that, they also have a huge kitchen, a pool, sauna, and the bathrooms were very clean and in good condition. The service was lovely and our private room was comfy and clean. All we needed after spending 5 months in a van! They give you towels and a soap bar. I recommend!

Decent hostel, has some good facilities for the price you pay. Towels $2. Cleanliness could have been a bit better. Staff at reception are helpful but some more so than others. Cinema room hardly plays movies. Cafe downstairs is good but a bit pricey. Location of the hostel is good, very close to central station.

Stayed here for two nights and the way the place was designed doesn’t make it feel like a hostel tbh. There were many floors and many rooms, with even movie rooms and swimming pool. Location is really good as it’s literally beside The Central station and nearby many decent food places. One thing bad was the rooms and doors ain’t soundproof so it gets kinda annoying at night when you can hear people walking outside the walkways and the traffic. Another thing was there wasn’t any hooks in the room (4-shared room) for me to hang wet towels. Other than that, it’s a good place for a hostel.

Location is fantastic, right next to Central Station and a short walk to the best parts of the city. Facilities are perfectly adequate, and staff are helpful and friendly. But cheap accommodation brings a certain type of patron, which can make shared bathrooms and dorm rooms an adventure. Bring a padlock, highly effective ear plugs, and a tolerance for less-than-charming human behaviour. You have been warned.

Nice! Staff is super helpful and they always do their best to make you feel comfortable :) Also, they offer really cheap meals (5/6$) for dinner and sometimes even a hotdog for 2$ at lunch!! There are a lot of appliances in the kitchen, but make sure to lock your food up! Not everybody is respectful of others... Great showers, really clean and a beautiful outside area Totally recommended

Very friendly staff. Lots of younger people who seem cliquey but overall a good atmosphere. There's the rooftop pool and patio with some awesome views and a good place to relax. Wifi only available on the roof or lobby. Rooms aren't overly clean and are quite smelly but the good service at the front makes me want to visit again !

It's ok. I've stayed in nicer hostels but also worse. Kitchen floor is great and good facilities however no one seems to clean up after themselves so there was a very grumpy staff member banging pots and pans around with her headphones in as she reluctantly washed up. To be expected in a hostel but just shocked at people's disregard for others. People don't really seem that chatty or friendly compared to other places I've been. With 9 floors I guess maybe its harder. There's a good variety of people of all ages and families too so that's quite nice. Shared bathrooms are pretty gross i wore flipflops in there. There was no paper towels or bins bear the showers which would have encouraged guests to semi clean after themselves.I didn't wanna get changed in the bathroom as it felt so grimy. Room felt reasonably clean and tidy although all housekeeping did was supply fresh pillows. There wasn't much space to keep stuff. Locker yes but a few hooks or something wouldn't go a miss.

I popped in as a friend was staying in this hostel. It seemed much more security conscious than the Rocks YHA, but I presume that's because of location. (I couldn't even use the loo!) But that's a good thing if you're staying there. It looked nice and tidy inside, although I'm still happy I was on the Rocks, better location, setup and breakfast options (in my opinion).

A great hostel. Very secure, swipe card access, 24 hour reception. IT has everything a hostel offers except here things are bigger, rooms, bathrooms etc. If you don't feel like cooking they have a lovely cafe downstairs and the price is quite reasonable. I find myself visiting this cafe now I live in Sydney and aren't staying at YHA. YHA let me check in early, 8 hours early! For a inner city hostel it is not noisy at night time, I had a good night sleep every night. They even have a TV and cinema room with comfortable couches. Loved my stay.

The good: Great location, right across Central station and bus stops nearby. 24 hour reception, lift, clean bathrooms. Nice kitchen and common area with power plugs and free Wi-Fi there. Lots af activities for the guests such as coastal walks and movies, karaoke parties, etc. There's a pool in the rooftop. The bad: Cleanliness of the bedrooms and showers can be improved. There's not free Wi-Fi in the rooms but it can be purchased for about $10. I think this doesn't happen often but the first time I stayed there a roommate was moved to another room without notice, her keycard suddenly stopped working and a rude lady was placed instead, everyone in the room were confused and thankfully the lady (who had screamed at everyone in the room and at reception) was banned from the hostel and my roommate was given a free night. A lot of unnecessary drama but the hostel managed the situation. Price: About $50 per night in a 4 female bedroom. Linen included.

The place is really nice. It is centrally located so makes travelling very easy. Train station, trams, bus stops right outside the hostel. Very convenient to go to anywhere. Very comfortable stay. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The guy at the reception gave us some good recommendations for blue mountains tour and helped with the booking and stuff. The swimming pool us on the top floor and good to visit during summers. WiFi is available only on the first floor. The kitchen has ample of space and hot/ boiling water available 24/7 through a device. The kitchen area is clean. The dining area is colourful, livens up your mood even if you are dining alone. Linen provided only when you check in. Bathrooms are good with hot water all the time. The rooms are spacious and well lit. There are multiple charging points even inside the cupboards. The cupboards can be locked with normal lock and key. Beds are decent and comfortable. Ipersonally enjoyed my stay there and would like to go again. Cheers!

Great location and good services. Wifi tends to be unreliable when not in the main lobby, but the facilities they offer are excellent otherwise. Rooms were clean, bathrooms were tolerable. The cafe on the ground floor is a huge plus.

Good access to everything town, train, airport. As a back packers it has so much to offer the budget tourist. The staff at the front desk were excellent, full of information on things to see and do for all budgets and ages.

Excellent location, LR and train right at doorstep which means direct train from airport (15mins max) and LR (light rail tram) to the rest of the city's tourist destinations etc. Very well priced for the size of our private double room, plenty of floor space for 2 massive hardcase luggages to be opened fully (plus walking space). Clean rooms surprisingly comfy pillows and bed. Double bed is well and truly spacious for couples. Always busy in common kitchen but well stocked with all cooking equipment/crockery etc for use. Basin area in toilets could do with more frequent cleaning. Shower area clean and above expectations. There're daily tours or hostel rooftop activities organised by YHA, some nights free food or cheap $1-$2 pizza slices or sausage sizzle. Best part is the daily meal deals with the affiliated bar/cafe next door (whole pizza or burger + pint beer for just $10). Heaps of convenience stores around the street and too many options for restaurants.

This is a 15/10. Firstly, the staff is incredible. Especially Hayley and Moey, you guys have been very nice and kind with me and very helpful . More than just Receptionist you become real friend. Secondly the location is perfect. Close to every cool bars and train, you can go wherever you want very quickly. Thirdly the place. For a short stay, this place is fairly fine. However, it is not that cheap compared to other backpackers hostels, such as Maze $22 per night for Maze, but less amenities. The price range for YHA is around $33 per night in a shared room. They have males and females separate rooms and they do have mixed ones. Make sure to use the amenities including the indoor pool and the whifi. The overall atmosphere is good.

Pretty clean but when I was staying there the swimming pool was under-reconstructions which was quite frustrating. Room prices are quite pricey but kitchen isn't bad. Need to be careful of your stuff as it seems the security isn't as great as it seems and one of my dorm mate's phone got stolen during her stay. Location is great though

I stayed here for 4 weeks and it was a very pleasant stay. Clean hostel, very good service, good entertainment and they even have a rooftop swimming pool and common area overlooking the CBD with some epic views. The two highlights for me were the friendly and helpful staff and the free premium WiFi you get when you stay for more than 7 days. For free WiFi it is ridiculously fast. Other things to note, they clean the rooms and toilets on a regular basis so things are quite comfortable in the hostel and also there is a nice cafe attached to the hostel if you need a meal or a quick snack.

I've stayed at YHA during 5 days in January and I can say that the place is just great! Great, friendly and helpful staff, nice (and some, why not) funny guests, comfortable rooms, very clean bathroom and facilities too. The lounge is some nice place to talk to people from every place on Earth and relax if you don't feel like going outside (though it's mad not doing so). They also carry a very good selection of vending machines as well a nice pool and sauna. For what I've payed, it was totally worth for! If I hadn't stayed the others 3 days at a friend's house, I'd surely be there!

Each person in the dorms gets a large lockable locker (I could hang clothes and fit a large bag in mine), but you need to bring your own lock. The rooms are very clean. The windows cant be opend so it smells everywhere. Would recommend to fellow travels who could afford the price.

Central YHA is huge (8 floors) and facilities are well maintained. Big dinning area and huge kitchen. Pool and rooftop are both nice area to chill. Activity wise they do have plenty of options and people seem to be easy going. If you are coming for a cheap accommodation, this place worth every penny you paid. If you are coming for parties, this is not the best in Sydney. You will have fun but it’s hard to meet people cause it’s huge.

Oh good lord I loved this hostel! So many good and bad experience, just like a backpacker should have! Yeah you’re asking what was bad: let me tell you, this one Irish bloke just can home at like 4 o’clock in the morning and thought he was on Toilet and peed at my mates jeans 🤣 he was quite confused when we asked him to stop what he’s doing and we tried to push him out of the room lol. Anyway you should probably put more Natrium in the pool and the sauna is too cold for me, but it was the most amazing time in Sydney so be bloody nice ppl!

All the information on the website was spot on and very easy to find as it is just next to central station. My room was an end suite double which was very clean and to a very high standard. The shower and bathroom were effectively a wet room. Towels were provided. There was plenty of information about sydney and the rest of Australia and the staff were extremely helpful. We participated in one of their weekly activities to the Cogee- Bondi Walk which was fun and a great way to meet new people! The rooms were clean and updated. Nice place. Very conveniently located near the central station and many bus lines. Within walking distance (sometimes a little long) of many sights. Busy, sometimes noisy, but very friendly. Some wear and tear but very clean. There's a kitchen, some common fridges to store food as well as convenient lockers if you show up a little early. (They will also give you bathroom keys if you are early, do you can take care of things .. or a shower.)

The rooms were clean and up to expectations, however the power points were inconvenient and due to the inability to open the windows some of the rooms overheated quite quickly because of the sun. Really nice place to stay in Sydney. Right beside the central station which takes you to the Circular Quay. Location was great. Dorm of 4 and private rooms were very cleaned. Only downside is that our food that we had purchased was stolen in the main kitchen. Did not find it convenient that there's no lockers (with passcode) preventing those incidents. Would highly suggest to keep the food you bring with you in your rooms during your stay!

You have to remember this place is a Youth Hostel and as such is great. The location was great, bus stop opposite which we could catch down to the harbour and walking distance of ***y shops, internet cafes, restaurants and bars. The best …

My experience here over all was good. A very nice common area to hang out and plan your day in. But the showers and bathrooms were pretty gross in the morning (vomit, misc items thrown around.) Probably not a common thing there since everything else is well kept.

There was and an entire floor dedicated to dining/relaxing with lots of plugs for computers/tablets, push chairs, computer stations and workspace. Paddys Markets just down the street was so convenient. Great for solo /couples or families.

Love the location! Perfect if you want to explore Sydney, go to Blue Mountains or Hunter Valley. Greyhound stop is just on the other side of the road and majority of the tour companies leave from behind the corner. The hostel has an amazing facilities: massive kitchen, swimming pool, sauna, rooftop terrace, laundry facilities and tour desk (you can plan all your Australia travels with them). Tip for visitors - close by is a Spice Alley. Great place to eat asian food on a budget (main around $12-14).

The next day you will get staff telling you to get it yourself; ie condiments, water etc when they are walking right past it and your sitting eating your meal.

After a short flight from New Zealand, I was delighted to check-in to this hotel for a one night stay. The location of the property is practically right next door to Sydney Central Station, with really easy access to the hotel. I was allocated a high floor room and was really impressed when I was checked in, the receptionist was great, she was welcoming, down to earth and really wanted you to have a great time in the hotel - after a brief explination of the facitlites availbale I made my way to the bedroom. The room was large, clean, bright and had a partial city view (something that was not expected) the double bed was clean and comfortable. The bathroom was also a good size, with a clean shower and toilet - very impressed! I decided to walk to Circular Quay via Darling Harbour, it took me altogether about 50 minutes, however, I did stop and admire the place en route, why rush?!?! I would absolutely stay here again, overall it was a great experience.

I think the best part about the hostel is its location. It's conveniently located next to Sydney Central location with access to trains for everywhere. Also it's very close to CBD. Rooms and shared bathrooms are clean. Linens are washed and relatively clean. It also provides a free city walk every morning to interested tourists. Airport shuttle, tourist coaches are all accessible from here. I believe it's one of the best hostels you can find in Sydney for both long and short stay.

Great experience. Stayed in the private room which was decently sized, had pretty good bed and a nice window. There’s a ceiling fan but no A/C tho. Rooms and showers are exceptionally clean. Staff was friendly and helpful. Self storage is available, make sure to a small padlock. Great location walking to everywhere in the city. Based in China Town area of Sydney, with no shortage of places to eat! We were on the eighth floor and there was a swimming pool on the roof. The room was very basic with an ensuite and clean. Pretty good as hostels go. The staff in reception were very nice, a totally international bunch but couldn't have been more helpful. We stayed here on our round the world trip - it was the most expensive accommodation we stayed in!

Have always enjoyed staying there. Wish they brought back the member's cheaper prices. Right in the middle of Sydney so you can pretty much walk everywhere or if walking is not for you then you are right next to the train station and bus stop.

First time in a hostel, so I wasn't sure what to expect, but I was pleased with my stay (I'm still here for a few more nights). Rooms do get hot, so I went down to Kmart and bought a fan, a d that made all difference. Clean restrooms, niiice kitchen, too. I lucked out and got some great roommates, but that's really not something YHA had much to do with. Right across from the central train station, as well as buses and light rail. Tons of food and small convenience stores in every direction,, and only about a half hour on foot to Circular Quay (or a couple train stops if you're lazy). I'd stay here again, no question.

Centre for Sydney. Everywhere access easy by walking or public transport. You have to wait lifters inside the hostel too much. It is not allowed to open windows for fresh air inside the rooms.Beds and room clean in the beginning but unfortunately backpackers do not keep clean shared rooms. Instead of using cupboards they throw their clothes and shoes all around the room. If u need a room with balcony you need to ask for the rooms at the corner because there are very little amount of rooms with balcony if you compare with total room numbers and you can not see them online while booking.Top floor swimming pool very small.But city view nice. Sauna is not hot enough.I like the kitchen utilities at this hostel. But if you are late it becomes very crowded and dirty so you may not like.But if you catch the kitchen earlier it is clean.There are 2 types of wifi one is free. The other is paid and you can continue use at some other YHA also but not all of them because some of the YHA hostels does not keep same standers. By the way I like the YHA near opera house best.( But I won't write it's comments here of course 😁)There is a nice cafe under this hostel but nowadays there is a big construction infront of the hostel and cafe. If you have any question about this hostel you can ask me because I had to live long time since I found a stable accommodation. I stayed in this hostel for only 2 days, after staying in another one up the block for a week. It's not a bad hostel by any means, but it's really not for someone who's 20 year old. I was put into a room where everyone was older than me and unlike the one up the block called "Wake Up Sydney", it's was uncomfortable to socialize. I guess most people would rather talk to their kids or keep to themselves than socialize with other guests. Also there's no power outlets near the beds.

Decent enough stay.. staff were responsive and reasonable in their behavior.. hostel is like a nice hotel with good facilities like pool, sauna, cinema and many more.. I was peaceful as the class of guests who come here are decent versus those in other backpackers (example, blue parrot backpackers) are mostly for drinking and partying all the time and it would be an annoying experience! I liked the fact that the rooms were big and air conditioned.. Also there is a balcony door that can be opened if fresh air is needed.. Toilets were clean and nice, however, sometimes dirtied by guests.. I would request the management to kindly take care of this.. There is also free popcorn and drinks and other foods in the cinema room and other events too such as quiz.. management also arranges for other events to socialize.. Overall it was a nice experience as I mostly wanted a peaceful and undisturbed stay that preserved privacy and I got it!

If you are out a lot (day and night) and don't use all the extras you can defenitely find better places! You get: a movie room, shared sexseparated floor bathrooms, rooftop pool with sauna, kind of expensive laundry rooms, free WiFi at ground floor, travel and job search agency, two kitchens which are most likely clean, enough fridge and food storage place BUT Rooms with bad beds, non-safe lockers and lots of families and older people, socialising with backpackers is little bit more difficult. Great connection to train station, but connection to the city by foot is not that good. Prizes are okay.

Cheap prices for a comfy bed, service is good, if you're staying for more than a day they provide daily activities. Facilities aren't at its best but still good.
