Best ice creams, somehow they have combined the creaminess of American with the good flavours of Italian. A favourite food in the world is dulce de leche and they have the source and the ice cream flavour, stunning. The service is friendly and fast, even if there’s a bit of a queue which Can be off putting. And they have lovely tables outside to sit and enjoy the ice cream at.

Best flavours are pistachio praline, hokey pokey and chocolate fondant. If you love Nutella, take home a jar of their Messinatella choc hazelnut spread, you won’t be disappointed. Also get the app, well worth it if you are addicted to gelato like me and my husband.

Very delicious with friendly helpful staff that let you sample the flavours before deciding on what you want. After realising that a 3 flavour half a litre tub is 80 cents more than 2 portions of 2 flavours we totally over committed. Luckily it comes in a chill box and cardboard take away container...for people who are actually taking away instead of trying to consume half a litre of ice cream there. Be warn this place is popular and seating is minimal.

Gelato Messina sports a delightful range of flavours, an impressive mix of your standards and unusual combinations. I love their salted caramel and white choc as well as their super dulce de leche, which is a standout. They also have a rotation of specials, which are extremely enticing and good to mix it up and try!

Yum! One of my fave gelato shops. The James street version is much more chil than South Brisbane g less night club, more family friendly, same amazing gelato selection. The weekly specials are always awesome, but my recommendation: Try the nicky glasses - salted caramel & coffee. Heaven in a cone or cup!

The ice cream here is just fantastic!!!! The textures and flavours are really a step above all the other ice cream shops that I have been to in Brisbane. I love good gelati as I have previously lived in Italy for some years. On our recent visit on Saturday night at about 9pm there was a long line up of people waiting to get there hit of Messina ice cream. The queue moved quickly, people were served efficiently. There was a large crowd outside devouring their favourites or selecting one of the 5 new original flavours of the week. We chose the new style pistachio and a panna cotta with fig jam and nuts. The textures were so smooth it was unbelievable! The nuts had a fresh crisp texture despite the fact that the ice cream was very cold . The makers obviously know the good tricks to keep the textures and mouth feel to an excellent standard! A very enjoyable. This place is great to go for a late night post dinner gelato or even during the afternoon and also mid mornings on the hot days in Brisbane. They have both egg and dairy style gelati in the true Italian style and also sorbet ice varieties for others. There and also ice cream cakes sundaes, eccetera. Most people grab a cone or a cup. Some folk were buying home packs.

Messina Gelato is always fantastic and we love getting it whenever we are in Sydney. However this area in Brisbane is very hip and trendy and worth spending an afternoon here wandering the shops. Ice cream always tastes better when it's hot and humid!

As a person who doesn't consume dairy, I highly recommend checking this place out because their sorbet is amazing. Their cones are also dairy free (not gluten free). My personal favourite is the pandan and coconut sorbet on a cone. So creamy but 100% vegan! The chocolate sorbet is also delicious. The perfect amount of richness.

Best gelato in Brisbane by far for me. They’ve got a large menu and good range of flavors so there’s something for everyone. People who know authentic gelato know it’s kept in the stainless steel tubs, and these guys do that too. The only thing I think they are missing is an espresso machine but apart from that it’s always a good experience.

I've been on a quest to find my favourite gelato joint in Brisbane and Messina is absolutely it. Quality ingredients, a broad, sumptuous selection of flavours, packaging that does it's job well (which is important when you're getting the big 1.5L tub; inferior tubs I've been given elsewhere have fallen apart and ruined their contents), but most importantly whatever magic makes everything come together. This gelato has a luscious silky-smooth mouth-feel and doesn't leave you with a coating of fat lining your mouth after you enjoy each taste. It's rich and decadent, but beautifully balanced so that it's somehow simultaneously too good yet still never enough. I'm not even being cute about that last bit; I've had to deal with addiction before and my feelings about Messina Gelato are frighteningly familiar. If there's any chance you might come back (and you will) then it's definitely worth downloading their rewards app. When you use it to pay, you get quite generous rewards that you can redeem for their usual range and more. My personal flavour recommendations are the pistachio and the pandan coconut, but if that's not for you, they probably have something else that is.

We ordered the "How Now" cake and the produced it the same day! We spoke to someone on the phone before collection and he was really really helpful and quick. Cake was amazing texture and everything you'd want for a special occasion. Stoked, good job Messina.

I had a cone with two scoops. The servings are very decent and I'm not wasting time talking about their quality. Just absolutely top notch. I dare you find a better chocolate ice cream than their chocolate fondant. The Dulce de leche is probably my happiest experience this weeks hahaha. It's definitely a must visit spot!

Fantastic range and quality of Gelato. One thing I like about this place is that sometimes their specials are slightly different from the South Brisbane store which means I can try different options during the week.

So pleased to see another Gelato Messina pop up in Brisbane and it is perfectly at home in the trendy upmarket precinct of James Street. Tucked at the back of the Main Street, this small boutique sized gelato store still manages to packed in a huge selection of the gelato that the brand is known for. Although missing it’s flamboyantly styled mountains of gelato in the larger stores, there is nothing missing in flavour or choices. Seating is very limited and space is a premium but don’t let that deter you. Walk while you enjoy your gelato if you must. I can’t think of a better way to burn calories. Gelato Messina is absolutely the best gelato in town no matter which store you go to. The bonus is: The staff are always super helpful and friendly!

Between local favourite La Macellaria and Melbourne export/franchise Messina (although being rivals) it’s hard to say which one is ‘the best’ because they each have their unique flavour combinations, nuances and interpretations of gelato.. both are great in their own ways and offer flavours that will satisfy a range of palates. I alternate visits between the two from time to time depending on what I feel like having on the day and they both always deliver 👌
