My favourite gelatery of all time, and you can easily spot them at different locations across Melbourne! Love their classic gelato flavours which are not so classic, and are consistently tasty. They also combine flavours such as panna cotta fig & amaretto biscuits and yogurt and carmel, as well as serving you exotic flavours from all over the world such as pandan or lychee with coconut! To add to this excitement, they have weekly specials where for example, they fuse a bunch of diff ingredients to create an amazing flavour or just make your favourite food into icecream form! My favourites are: - afternoon tea at nonna’s: ricotta cheesecake gelato, fig jam, buttery biscuit crumble - dulce de - you make me unicorny: 100s & 1000s and poundcake - fairy bread: 100s & 1000s and toast and butter gelato - double or nothing / get baked: baked cheesecake gelato with dulce de leche & toppings - milk tea gelato specials - tiramisu To be honest, everything is good and no wonder it’s such a popular fun spot to return to!

This is the gelato shop to end all gelato shops. Located on the ever popular Smith Street, it does a great weekend trade. Came here with some kids whose little eyes almost popped out of their head with all the choices on offer. The staff were so patient with them as they wanted to test a few of the flavours before making their big decision. Of course, it pretty much was the traditional choices in the end but they were all so happy and snapping pictures of each other in approval. I'm told this place gets busy late at night and imagine people coming from restaurants and having their 'dessert' here. You can also order a fine hot chocolate, latte, milkshakes or other drinks here. There are stunning cakes that available or can be ordered. You can even watch them being made. Plenty of seating inside but also you can dine out on the street, especially if you have your furry friend with you. Wheelchair friendly. Pram and stroller accessible. Reasonable parking along Smith Street. This place is a must try and with three locations across Melbourne, give it a go. You won't be disappointed

My son and I shared a Chocolate Fondant scoop of ice cream with mint chip. Both were awesome. The ice cream is delicious, the staff are very nice and friendly, located conveniently in Fitzroy, close to major roads and public transport this makes Gelato Messina a wonderful place to go. The ice cream or gelato is always fresh and on display and whenever I am there I love eating it. Even though I’ve never had any of the cakes they definitely look amazing. Regular to this always busy ice cream shop. Great selection of flavours both ice cream and gelato. My go to is the salted caramel with white choc but last two times its had a weird texture on spoon? Not sure what or why? But always fun and innovative flavours, strawberry is yum and always heaps with cookies or something fun. I never wait in the pouring line as the side is always Empty or people not knowing what to order. In and out! That’s how it’s done 🍨

So good. We couldn’t say no after a massive dinner and I am so glad we stopped in. We tried the white chocolate hazelnut and it was incredible. Add to that a lot of the produce is made from scratch on site! They even have a farm with their own cows who are loved and cherished and product the milk and cream for this amazing ice cream. The best is to look at their staff making gelato when enjoying your gelato. Parking is very limited, but very convenient with tram. Be expected to queue up on hot days or holiday period.

Honestly, everyone must know by now that Gelato Messina is one of the best gelato places in Melbourne! I don’t think I need to elaborate why, but I will anyway so here are the reasons: 1. Nice spot, great service, excellent quality on products. Forget about drinking watery coffee on other places, Here the Coffee is incredibly tasty. I went for a long walk with the dog I was sitting, unsure if it was going to be pet friendly, and to my surprise they didn’t say anything so I could enjoy my gelato freely on the front seats. The only reason I’m not pointing on 5 🌟 is because I believe is overloaded with sugar, but probably it’s a matter of taste. You go ahead and try 😊

I love Gelato Messina! I love their Dr Evil mushroom cake, and I also love their normal ice cream. I esp love their ice cream on the specials board. I got their brownie in milk chocolate ice cream, their Sicilian orange trifle which was amazing, the dulce de Leche and their cheesecake ice cream with cheesecake bits inside it. Yum yum! The service is quite good as well and you can taste test everything.

Messina is no doubt one of the best ice cream shops I have visited, over 20 flavours and new special flavours all the time it’s hard to say no! Half of their servings have gooey, soft, hard, chewy and crunchy bits loaded throughout them and it’s what make it amazingly tasty. That serving sizes are generally very generous but do tend vary from time to time. The amount you get for their price is really good thus far except for the last time I went, regardless I’ll be back!

The best ice cream I’ve had in my life by a long shot. It was an easy decision for me to score them five (5) stars. I hear they produce their own milk and even grow their own strawberries and hazelnuts - only using the best ingredients. They are always happy to let you sample the flavours no matter how busy. It is fascinating to peer through the windows and watch the ice cream be made by hand. Just nit picking, but I must admit, I prefer the original set up, with the sloped cabinets. It made it easier to see the different flavours from further away. Must have made selling the ice cream easier and quicker for everyone. Unfortunately, you now need to lean over the cabinets to be able to see the flavours. It must make it difficult for shorter children. If you’ve been a few time and have a combination of flavours you’d love to share with others, you should consider picking up a 0.5L container.

Worth a 45 minute round trip if you're after ice cream alone. A large selection of flavours is available, perfect consistency with unmatched quality and taste. The service is amazing, the only downside being the pub style free for all line but this has improved with time. Above all, the best thing is the constantly changing array of AWESOME specialty flavours. Combinations you can barely imagine turned out perfectly. The tantalising descriptions are matched only by the flavours (and usually between). Nothing else compares - coming from an absolute frozen dairy fanatic. The best thing to come to Melbourne in recent times.

The icecream is quite good. Over the top though. Very sweet and rich. We got the mushroom cake and although beautiful it was poorly conceived from a flavour perspective. Only chocolate icecream, my first slice had a massive slice of peanut butter running through it and some nice layers of chocolate cake. My second slice has big chunks of biscuit in it. All over the top rich with no real contrasts in flavour. I prefer piccolina for a lighter and more tasteful experience.

Literally, the only downside to this place is that it is so good. It attracts so many people that it can sometimes be hard to get a snippet of that delicious, delicious cream. It is one of the cheapest and one of the best places for an ice cream and/or gelato in all of Melbourne. I came here on my way to the airport one night, 10:30pm. I couldn't believe how lively it was that time of night. Had as much people there as your average ice creamery would have at the peak of their career. Messina is one of the must visit places in Melbourne. In fact, you're probably not a full-blown Melbournian until you've payed Messina a visit.
