This place is an institution for gelato if you're in the vicinity of Lygon Street. Love the range of flavours available here. The gelato is smooth and creamy, and absolutely delicious. Tried the Milo, and took away my go-to flavours of pandan and yam, and wasn't disappointed at all. The flavours are on point!

We finished the lot before the weekend was through...so full but so worth it! Lockdowns are good for the health of the community, but tough on small businesses, so give them your support and get some delicious ice-cream at the same time!

Il Dolce Freddo is the best gelato shop in Melbourne for me. I had my first date here and have many happy memories. During the lockdown, Andy has delivered the gelato home for me and given discounts for in store pickup. The flavours are great and the quality is excellent! Please support them during lockdown because today she told me that they don't receive the government grant during lockdown which I think is so unfair. They're hardworking and good people with quality products. Please support!

After mad rush from willliamstown to lygon street, we arrived ten minutes before Il dolce freddo's closing. There was only one thing on my mind; durian ice cream. It's the bomb. Period. Mango, lychee, passionfruit was good. Hazelnut and matcha was good. Damn it! Just try all the flavors!

Best gelato place ever. The durian gelato is amazing and really does smell and taste like durian. The real fruit is better, but this is as close to it as possible. Other favourites are the pandan kaya, lychee, and pistachio. All the other flavours are amazing too!

Lychee, Pandan coconut, taro, (even durian if you're so inclined) are just some amazing/exotic flavours you can get here. They do a really good job. Flavours and textures are more or less consistent throughout the whole year, and the pricing is fair. It's our top 2 gelato places in Melbourne for sure.

Very great! The Ice Cream tasted very amazing, if you go there, I recommend getting the Vanilla and Caramel. It tasted really great. There is no queue as well, the service was great, it was very quick. Overall the ice cream was great, you will regret not coming here!

We were looking for another place but the kids were tired and we didn’t get there. We were so happy to find this little place serving some very unique gelato. The Pandan is a personal favourite. Pistachio is really good as well. Durian, well that's an acquired taste :) Dec 2017. Just an update from my previous review and since they have changed owners. Flavours relatively feels the same since I've been coming here for years. But the current owners are not friendly, skim on their portions, rude at times and always trying to rush you... it's like they want to make more money out of you kinda feeling. Miss the old owners who were much much friendlier and accommodating. For this my rating has dropped. 6/10.

We go here on average once a month and I always get the Ferrero Rocher and/or Chocolate (depending on what the bathroom scales read). While the gelato has always been good, historically the customer service has been lacklustre lately it has been really good, with friendly and engaging staff.

Used to be my go to gelato store along Lygon. However, for the past few times i came i was served by an Asian girl who seemed to be working there for a long time, and she has continually given me small scoops of gelato. Friends also had similar comments about the serving size. Gelato is still good just too expensive for such a small serving.

Venture out into Lygon Street in North Melbourne and you’ll find a neighbourhood long tied to Italian cuisine and culture. I used to hang out here cause I simply love pizza. But today, some of the best restaurants are located elsewhere. Walk around and you’ll still find gems such as Il Dolce Freddo, which services easily one of gelato in town. The shop itself doesn’t look like much and you might actually miss it if you don’t pay attention. Inside however, is a treasure trove of mouth-watering flavours!

Jeez Louise this is a sneakily good frozen dairy fix. If you ever find yourself sitting on your couch contemplating your next life move, then I recommend kicking off your deliberations with a sneaky scoop of IL Dolce Freddo. I’m pretty sure that the ice creams here would also serve well in other deliberations, such as: what kind of dog breed will you next own, whether you should look for a new (and cheaper) gas supplier, or if that hairstyle is really ‘you’. 5 stars, would deal in again. You can thank me later.

Popular with the uni kids, Il Dolce Freddo is often run by Asian uni students and serves Asian ice cream flavours such as Lychee and Durian, alongside delicious chocolatey flavours such as hazelnut/ferrero rocher. Located on Lygon, it is the perfect dessert choice after having good Italian food, or after having Thai at Ying Thai, fish and chips at Tank etc. Make sure to bring cash as it's cash only!
