Comments of Cow & The Moon
S. C.
inner city sydney late night sweet spot. caring staff doing their best to adhere to covid protocols while still serving up gelato with a smile under the mask. while the patrons secure a small seat outside to devour the deliciously unique ice cream assortment. Sticky fingers.
A. R.
Plenty of choices of ice creams and sorbets to choose from. Very busy at times but pretty fast service.
I. G.
solid 10 outta 10, the ice cream was 100% quality. no air bubbles. Perfect flavours, I recommend coconut 🥥 and hazelnut, if you actually have a taste, instead of caramel or chocolate, you'll go for these, especially hazelnut, I just can't take it outta my mind.
N. V.
Solid gelato flavour options here at Cow and The Moon. We tried the lemon, mango, watermelon and chocolate and they were all really good. Keen to explore other flavours in the next visit.
The store is super cute and staff friendly. Limited indoor seating but there is more seating outside.
N. B.
The first thing that you'll experience is the wonderful aroma of coffee once you step inside. A huge selection of really unique and interesting gelato flavours - including the worlds best - the 'Mandorla Affogato' and lots of other award winning flavours. A few non-dairy options available too which is fantastic.
Great value - 2 generous scoops for $6.50 and a great ambience inside, cosy, great decor and energy and friendly efficient staff.
They are proudly displaying their awards on the back wall. What a great asset to this amazing region in Sydney.

This place has become a bit of an obsession of mine recently. Their pistachio ice cream is the most delicious I’ve ever had, especially paired with either toasted coconut or coconut & lime one. My daughters also liked the after dinner mint. However, other flavours we tried are a little bland, although the ice cream itself is rich and creamy as it should be.
M. R.
Absolutely love their Icecream. Especially choc and lemon cheese cake. Their choc is on the darker side and not too sweet which I love. Other flavors are good as well.. a must visit if in innerwest or traveling to Sydney. A solid Enmore/Newtown experience. Fairly priced and friendly staff.
Plus my cat loves the sorbet!!
H. M.
Best ice cream shop in Sydney!!
Friendly stuff and amazing customer service with great ice cream :)
I come back many times to have a ice cream!
H. V.
World best gelato 🤩. They have different flavors everyday. I love most of the time chocolate 🍫. You guys can visit once and enjoy the taste of gelato 🤩.
P. D.
The variety and quality of their ice cream is too good to pass up! Friendly staff. Highly recommended for locals and visitors alike. 5 stars.
C. P.
Best gelato ever!!!
Gone too many gelato places and I keep on coming back here. Nothing can beat the INCREDIBLE quality and taste of this place.
C. a. M.
Creamiest gelato you will ever try!
S. H.
Been hanging out to try Cow &The Moon and they didn't disappoint. The highlights were the hazelnut and chocolate flavours but this may change as we slowly work our way through the rest to make sure we got it right. It's hard work but somebody's got to do it.
K. I.
If anyone ever describes a meal as "an experience" again, I'll eat at zambrero (jokes, nothing can get me back there). Cow and the moon is as famous as the Rock, and about as happy with its place in life. Reluctance to queue is a normal condition, that Australians seem to be immune to. Not so your reporter, and yet I relented this time. What turned great ice cream into an experience was the A grade busker that keeps you entertained as you wait. Ok, his singing is bettered by his variety in methods of donation to his living, but hey, who carries cash any more?
This ice cream is very, very good. The kiddies serving it are just as good. It's an enmore miracle. And a great experience.
a. y.
Probably my favourite gelato with weekly staff specials and flavours to keep you interested each time you venture in for a taste. Black and blue is my all time favourite for the sour tangy fruit flavour or the highest selling affogato
J. P.
Ice cream portions are generous but cake options were limited, though I was placated with extra whipped cream on the side. Decent chai. Friendly staff.
D. M.
Always busy and once that delicious gelato hits your lips - you’ll understand why!
Always a huge, rotating range of flavours so you’re guaranteed to find a new favourite each time you visit. The store set up isn’t the best as it gets super crowded and jammed up but the service is friendly and the queue goes fairly fast - definitely pop in if you’re on this end of enmore road - if you’re not, make a detour!
M. H.
Simply the best gelato style ice cream. A good selection of good old and interesting new flavours. Some favourites are Strawberry Balsamic Pannacotta, Black Sesame, Raspberry White Chocolate and Pistachio. The ice-cream is super smooth with no perceptible ice crystals. It leaves your palate refreshed without a fatty after taste showing the quality of the ingredients and attention to detail in the production process. They also have a good selection of sorbet for the dairy intolerant in your group along with coffee and cakes on offer. For a couple, grab a multi scoop tub with two spoons and share because it is more economical than two singles. Ordinarily it can get busy at peak times and seating is very limited - but they are only doing takeaway during COVID.
Cow and the Moon ice cream has been a favourite for years ever since discovering it on a trip to Sydney many years ago. Now living in Sydney it is a special trip across the city. You must try Cow and the Moon ice cream, I guarantee you will be back for more.
S. C.
One of my favorite gelato places in Sydney! I actually like it more than Messina (also really good)
D. W.
Always on point here . Great gelato
C. R. C.
Been a fan since we tried their affogato ice cream.
Why not 5 stars then?
Too bad we found an authentic gelato shop in Redfern. 😉
A. L.
One of the absolute best gelato joints in Sydney! The smoothest, creamiest quality gelato with a range of delectable flavours. The standard scoop (pictured below) is the perfect size, and you can still get two flavours.
Some personal standouts - pistachio, Bella chocolate and cherry with dark choc. The specials are usually great too.
Takeaway tubs and coffee also available on site.
C. C.
Worth the queue. Also appreciate their small size comes with 2 flavours, medium comes with 3, so you can taste several flavours. I tried the orange poppyseed, tirimisu, and after dinner mint, they were super great. With summer heating up though it was getting melted quickly so don't spill on yourself!
G.
One of the best place to get an ice-cream in Newtown. Definitely give it a try and go for the the new flavours rather than the classic one. We tried Amore mio and the hokey pokey. Love it!!
J. D.
A locals hotspot and a visitors MUST! Seriously, there is a genius 'out the back' working around the clock thinking up these epic, magical flavours, constantly changing on the menu. The talent of the chef is obvious as you cast your eye over the highly creative flavours. I wish I was there right now... (I am also a chef of sorts and take food very, very seriously) ;) I also just read they have taken out an award on a global scale a few years ago. There is a reason why. Get down there!
J. V.
Really tasty ice cream, wish they had more vegan options as I only could choose from 3 flavours.
C. K.
there is an employee who is so incredibly massive ! I couldn't stop looking at his biceps and he was also incredibly nice. I think he deserves a higher rank in this fine establishment. But the ice cream was incredibly mediocre.
S. F. L.
I had heard so many good things about this place and hadn’t tried it yet until the past long weekend for Australia Day where I went TWICE! It’s a good sign when there is a line almost out the door. There are classic flavours but also some creative flavours that get you curious that you wanna try. On the come I had the award winning pistachio and in the cup I tried the ‘queenslander’ - mango and macadamia nut and their award winning strawberry and balsamic. I enjoyed all the flavours and have to say my fave was probably the flavours in the cup.
Y. H.
Best coffee and Ice Cream in Enmore. Pistachio Biscotti. Must try. Excellent takeaway options. Had Cheesecake ice cream, blood orange and black sesame ice cream.
M.
This place’s ice cream is way better then Messina! No comparison!
A. H.
If you feel like amazing ice-cream come down to cow and moon. One of my favourite places to get a late night fix. Only problem is the queues and trying to find somewhere to park on a busy night in Enmore.
J. M.
Such a yum yum experience, had mango and strawberry sorbet, so rich in texture and flavour, and so light after eating.
Would definitely recommend it.
B. B.
Delicious ice-cream, unimaginably delicious, so many different flavours and some seasonal flavours, so so so good.
D. L.
This is the BEST gelato. Have been coming here for a few years and it is consistently good. Great place to go for a treat with family, friends and out of town visitors. We have been buying the large takeaway tubs so we can enjoy at home whenever we like.
H.
Tried a few flavours ( black sesame and some coffee flavoured one in the picture)
I loved the earl grey one the most. Very flavourful and subtle.
Black sesame was good but I personally would love a stronger taste.
Pistachio was another winner for me.
Overall very yummy and would come back again to try the different flavours
K. Z.
Gelato ice cream might be a bit too sweet for me, but the affogato flavoured and pistachio flavoured ice cream are still really nice. And the shop assistant is helpful and friendly.
E. H.
Hazelnut flavour is nice. Sour berry x pistachio flavour is little bit weird ( sour berry is not my favourite but they don’t offer plain pistachio). Mango flavour is ok but the nuts are little over roasted.) not very creamy/thick, melted in a very short time.
T. L.
The creamiest fluffiest softest gelato I’ve ever tasted !!! OMG I wish I had discovered this ice cream shop sooner. I tried the hazelnut and matcha and both flavours were prominent and not too sweet compared to some other places. Will come back to try different flavours next time! Staff is helpful and friendly :)
S. C.
Just happened to walk by this place and luckily I picked the affogato flavour which seems to be the most popular choices based on the reviews. The gelato was really nice and creamy, without being sickly sweet like some other places. Other flavours I chose were strawberry balsamic and the coconut lychee. Both were very good too. The cone it was served on was nice and crunchy too.
One small thing that I thought was interesting was how the three flavours were stacked on the cone. The way it was done made it easy to sample the three different flavours without having it topple over. Like I said small thing but nice detail.
L. S.
Love the texture of their gelato - smooth, rich, thick and slightly sticky. The flavours are spot on too. It melts quite fast though so could get messy in summer. My favourite is their hojicha flavour but unfortunately they didn’t have it anymore when i visited today.
K. M.
Creamy, velvety delicious gelato. Perfect any time of the year. Love so many different flavors, consistently gives me exactly what I crave.Love that they staff are so lovey and cheerful
A. C.
Right up there as one of the best gelato experiences in sydney. So many interesting flavors to choose, will have to come back to get through them all.
T. B.
Yummy gelato & ice creams. So many varieties. Always busy and friendly customer service. They make takeaway and sit down coffee's/ desserts also. Corner location.
J. C.
Ordered 3 large tubs of chocolate. My kids absolutely love it. Too bad we didn't have choc sorbet when we dropped by.
J. Q.
Gelato is good. They have that super interesting flavour with the balsamic. They’re open pretty late at night, so you can grab good gelato at night. This place is also pretty popular so be prepared to wait in line for a bit. There’s a little bit of seating inside but it’s usually taken. The service is pretty good, and so is the food, but it is relatively pricey!!
J.
Yummy gelato and sorbets. I ordered the affagato which was delicious and the white peach sorbet. It can get busy which makes it hard to view the selection before ordering..
P. V. D. W.
My ice cream cone was severely melting in my hand before I even paid for it and left the store - and due to the insanely rapid melting I was wearing it by the time I was done eating it a very quick and stressful two minutes later, standing outside the store. Clearly their freezer temperature was set too high. This didn't happen in the past and hopefully it's something that can be fixed. The ice cream itself is very tasty.
L. N.
Fantastic gelato! Super creamy and a great range of flavors. I think it’s the best gelato in Sydney for sure.
J. L.
Great gelato, friendly staff and lovely indoor & outdoor seating area. My favourite flavour is their award-winning Mandorla affogato - so good! Dulce de leche gelato was tasty too (just a tad too sweet for me, but I'd imagine many will like it).
D. P.
The Cow and Moon have the world's best ice cream and sorbets, and that's not just my opinion its an actual award they have won. The people are lovely and the salted caramel is so luxurious (it has an actual layer of caramel on top of it). Hummingbird cake is also one of my favorites.
R. D.
One of the best, if not the best, gelato shops I've been to in Sydney, good quality and lots of good flavours, buy 1 scoop and you get a choice of two flavours, price is reasonable also. They've hit the nail on the head these guys. It's at the top end of Enmore rd, but worth the walk. There is one other place I know that is equally good and it is called Gondola Gelato in Chatswood, its so good.
Z. S.
Deliciously sweet and creamy gelato with plenty of unique flavour options. Personally a bit on the sweeter side for me (if compared to Messina).
T. P. (. P.
Cow and The Moon is a wonderful gelato shop. It is open quite late on all days and has amazing award winning ice cream. The place can get quite busy on Fridays, Saturdays and Public Holidays especially after 7pm. This is also one of the only ice cream shops that sell coffee and tea as well.
B.
Definitely worth queuing up for. Unfortunately my favourite flavour has been off their menu for most of lockdown....bring back Cherrymania!!
P. G.
One of my favourite gelato places in Sydney - I love the creamy smooth texture & range of flavours which change often. The staples are a must - award winning mandarola, delicious gianduia, one of my favourite is passionfruit cream - zingy & creamy and also love the fig number. Its really busy most days but staff are efficient and helpful. A little on the sweeter side but thats why its a little indulgence! There is also gelato & non gelato cakes, pastries, shakes and coffee on offer.
T. A.
Nice atmosphere, great approachable and friendly staffs. Quality and amazing gelato with plenty options. Price is very reasonable.
n. r.
Greatly surprise with the amount of different flavours they have compare with other gelato shops. They give some of them, random names, so you don't really know what you are eating. But they all taste delicious. Still no favourites in town but reeeally good! They could be a bit more generous on their portions as well. Just saying!
T. D.
I love chocolate eclairs of this place, absolutely best service, best friendly staffs and best gelato in the town🥰🥰🥰
K. M.
They’re an award winning ice cream place for a reason because they are amazing!! My partner and I really enjoyed what we got but too bad the customer service can use some improvement. I get that it’s busy but the girl who served me had an attitude when I asked to try some of the flavours.
J. J.
Any of their award winning flavours are a must have! Overall pretty darn amazing gelato. Very accommodating service considering the large number of customers they can get. Their cakes are simple and great if you know which flavours the recipient likes or which ones go best together, however flavours may be considered a little pedestrian compared to a nearby gelato store competitor.
R. M.
- verdict - best gelato in town for those who don’t like super sweet stuff and prefer flavor.
Love this joint. Their gelato are not too sweet and full of flavor. They have won several awards and if they keep this quality they will be hard to beat.
R. N.
Been to Cow and Moon a few times and enjoyed all flavours we've tried. Really liked the chilli chocolate gelato. Just a hint of chilli to tease my palate.
B. A.
There's usually always a line during dinner and lunch hours. Really tasty ice cream and a very wide variety of flavours. I got salted caramel and hokey pokey. The combination went really well together but hokey pokey > salted caramel. The portions they serve are huge. I asked for a medium cone and so I was shocked and a bit scared when I saw how much ice cream I was going to have to eat.
A. R.
Excellent gelato & espresso coffee, plenty of outside seating, COVID-19 safe.
S. F. S.
There is a salted caramel ice cream here which is now to me what 'Nuke' is to Cain in RoboCop 2. Mrs From Saturday had to call vets in to administer intravenous tranquillisers in order to remove me from the premises. From Saturday Junior is currently going through a cold turkey worse than Renton in Trainspotting. I'm on the bus home now already planning how I can get out of stuff to go back here and eat until I die.
It's. That. Good.
S. G. M.
I love this place 🤗 Delicious gelato!! Coffee 😍 is nice to find great coffee beans From the best places!!!!
T. A.
Just loved the affagato and strawberry with balsamic Icecream. Yum!
We tried the Christmas pudding flavour as well, tasted like the real thing!
Also grabbed the mango sensation shake, this is one of the best shakes I've had. Just amazing! The serve while dining in is way bigger than takeout, so if available.. Grab a seat and enjoy
D. S.
The best ice cream in Newtown and maybe in Sydney.
G. V.
One of the best gelato in Sydney as they are the 2017 champion of Sydney gelato. We had the delizia which was great, dairy filled, cheesecake-like. Another one, Cointreau quella, choc-biscuity taste with a hint of liquor. Pleasant experience overall.
m. w.
The most famous ice cream in new town. You should come and try. Small size for $6 and you can choose 1-2 flavours. It will be enough for one.
C. C.
Great flavours and decent value if you can grab a few friends to share a large serve ($9.50; up to 4 flavours). I tried the Queensland (mango and macadamia) and the Raspberry Cheesecake flavours in the small size ($6), which were both delicious. Be warned: even the small is quite filling. I'd happily come back and try their more innovative flavours, though I'm sure the classics (lemon sorbet anyone?) are amazing too.
L. D.
Amazing ice cream and coffee. Cakes/desserts also looked delicious. Lots of nice seating inside and outdoors.
N. E.
Tasty ice-cream, the service is quick as the queue forms quickly out from no where. They are generous with the serving sizes and know how to pack ice cream in takeaway tubs. The chocolate is my favorite flavour always smooth.
L. K.
Still my favourite gelato shop in Sydney. I’ve been coming back for years since before moving abroad and will visit every time I’m home!
W. T.
Possibly the best pistachio gelato I’ve had. I also tried the roasted coconut which was excellent but the pistachio definitely took the spotlight and became the star of the cup. I would recommend! Also very intrigued by the ‘Queenslander’ combo but I’ll save that for another day.
S. L.
Gelato will not disappoint!! Plus Single O coffee beans so a great coffee promised.
Y. M.
Was voted the best Gelato in the world a few years back and the quality is great! Reasonably priced. Personally I prefer it to N2 or Messina as I find them although have gimmick or more choices, the quality of Gelato is not as good.
E. B.
Definitely my favorite ice cream place in the world! :-) Flavours are constantly evolving and the owners are really lovely. Would let this place take my money over Messina any day!
V. K.
Icecream is not too heavy, but very aromatic.
E. K.
Always a line at this place for a good reason. Great variety of gelato and sorbet flavours. Had the black sesame, hazelnut and orange, poppyseed and burnt butter, all delicious and creamy. Would recommend a visit
A. A.
I hate to say this is the best ice cream in Sydney, but it is.... hey people don’t come here , please!! We lined up for 30 mins for 4 scopes of the goodness !!! People stop coming here !!!!
R. R.
super sweet place, really good flavours. the only real downside is that from what i can tell they swap some flavours over every so often which means i can't always get my two favourites. but still really good and their hazelnut flavour with the bella chocolate makes a great combination.
K. W.
Was told it was the best gelato in Sydney... so far pretty good! Had the tiramisu and the celebrated affogato... so yum! Loved the vibes, great music, and great staff!
T.
Great range of gourmet flavours. The Mandorla affogato is a must. The other best thing about this place is you can get a choice of two flavours in the small, making the decision process just a tiny bit easier.
S. O.
This place use to be so much better back in the day. There are better gelato places out there or I picked the wrong flavours.
A. D.
Best gelato icecream in Sydney hands down. It may not have the quirky crazy flavours of Messina, the vegan coconut/sugar free icecream of Gelato Blue, the honey Greek flavours of Pagoto or the location of Anita gelato, (way better than franchises gelstissimo etc) but they just nail creamy smooth delicious icecream. I think they just use better milk or ingredients perhaps and craft balanced yummy flavours. I just know it's my favourite and I'm an icecream lover. Do try their famous mandorla affogato and pistachio flavours but I'm a huge fan of their yoghurt style icecream.
H. W.
Definitely one of the best places that sell ice creams. Variety of ice cream flavours, along with them being able to pack many flavours in one. Ice cream price is a bit on the expensive side but not by much.
S. P.
A bit pricey but excellent ice cream, fresh waffle cones, and friendly service.
W. P.
Really good gelato! Lots of interesting flavours
P. N.
My favourite gelato place around here. Forget your typical flavours. Their new combination is mind blowing! Many options for dairy free as well!
K.
Too many interesting flavours to choose from ... able to taste before you choose. Two scoops for $6.50 not bad ! Friendly and helpful staff. A bit of a wait but they line moves pretty quickly.
P. C.
Delious icecream never disappointed with any flavour I choose.
S. A.
Beautiful artisan ice cream with intricate flavours. Also serve coffee and cake
A. A.
Amazing ice cream in such a hip cafe with plenty of seating which is clean and tidy. It's also to come here at all times, I've been here after work, in the afternoon and in the evenings. Lovely staff as well and a great place to visit, not to just eat ice cream!
G. J.
While I appreciate that inflation can’t keep the prices like they were a few years ago, the scoops are more disappointing than the 15-minute queue at night just to have a decent ice cream scoop.
T. M.
A cup of ice cream and a coffee, great way to start the evening. Fantastic choice of flavours.
J.
Ice cream tastes great, but the service was a bit awkward.
R.
Great flavours and long queues but deservedly so. Try some of the flavours in addition to the award winning manola
N. B.
Best ice cream and cakes in town!
You cant go wrong with their desserts.
Yummy!!!
Z. Z.
Love the density and bold full flavours with the highest quality ingredients. Leaves Messina for dead! Too bad they no longer allow samples to help you decide which flavour. Definitely a go to staple for getting a gelato/icecream fix in Sydney if you're in the area. They allow two flavours for a scoop, good portion size too :) Cakes looked amazing too :) Service could have been better/more knowledgeable about the product. 14/4 Madagascan Vanilla if the same as the famously awarded Vanilla Bean...was not strong vanilla at all...pretty disappointing. Probably the worst flavour and MEH I have ever tried there. Blackcurrant Blueberry sorbet was wonderfully refreshing, fresh and not sickeningly sweet like many fruit sorbets can be. A tip: don't go too close to closing time as there is a massive queue and most of the gelato and flavours available have been decimated by this time.
D. F.
Best ice cream in Sydney, perhaps Australia, maybe even the world.
A. M.
Decent creamy gelato on offer, but all flavours on offer when I was there were all sweet i.e. no dark bitter chocolate or pistachio etc. Service was also so so.
A. W.
The gelato is really amazing and one of the best in Sydney. Hokey Pokey is a top recommendation. Staff are nice but just more interested in chatting with each other than in serving their customers. Last night there were 3 staff behind the counter, 2 were just chatting to each other and I'm not sure what the other one was doing while there were 3 customers waiting to be served. It's great that they get a long so well and they are very nice but I think serving the customers should be a priority over chatting to your work mates. But really amazing gelato never the less.
C. C.
Long line to counter, only to be ignored... they need a better system for dealing with so many customers. Gelato was too sweet for my liking.
P. L. B. h.
I like going there once a while to check out the new flavours, still never disappoints me, love the ice cream
L. L.
Such great gelato! If you're in Enmore you should definitely visit this place. The staff are always friendly and happy to help and the flavours are excellent!
J. S.
Beautiful gelato, a favourite of ours. Would get 5 stars if they did a child size. Kind of ridiculous to give a toddler two scoops. We will go to Messinas until a kiddy size is available. Looking forward to that day :)
m. h.
The Fig Mascarpone is on point! 👌
There another icecream that's got like fruit chunks in it.. i think it's the Peach Cobbler, reeaaal tasty!
C. O. D.
Divine food that will make you think you've died and gone to heaven it's that yummy.
S. C.
Yummy ice cream. Tried the cookies n cream, mango sorbet and the strawberry balsamic flavours. Would definitely return to try the other tasty offerings.
B. L.
Beautiful gelato with an endless range of flavours! They constantly come up with new flavours so it is worth paying them a visit every now and then to try all the seasonal recipes.
/.
Great coffee and selection of cakes, very fresh, will be back again
G.
Staff are so friendly and gelato is the best in Sydney 🤤
S. T.
Best gelato team and a true community spirit. This team consistently provides the best gelato on the planet and does it with a community spirit in mind. Could not survive without it.
N. Z. (. O.
Now I have been to Italy and had gelato there. But cow and moon has some of the best Gelato and creamiest ice cream. Loved the flavours. Move over Messina
f. g.
The best Gelato in Sydney
S. J.
Wonderful staff and absolutely fantastic gelato. I had the coffee and dark chocolate in a small cup, and it was very well worth the money!
Y.
The staff was really friendly and helpful. The ice cream got good quantity and flavor. Yumyum
F. C.
I loved their Vanilla flavour. Simple yet rich in flavour.
S.
It's ok. Coffee is hit and miss depending on the barista and the time of day.
Great selection of gelato, and can see why they're popular and award winning. There's often long lines later at night and on weekends.
My biggest criticism is the staff are sometimes (more than occasionally) rude, and there's a feeling in the air that they're not allowed to have fun while working.
L. T.
Lovely service! Ordered the affogato with affogato ice cream as the choice or gelato! Awesome ice cream and would love to be back to try more flavours
H. W.
Never quite understood the hype. So i finally went down to try it and i can honestly say it is the best gelato I've ever had! I would go back again, but i would never like up more than 15 or 20mins
J. C.
Slightly pricey compared to other gelato shops but you get to pick 2 flavours for $6 which is flexible. And of course their affogato flavour is awesome which was a good experience
J. N. C.
The Gelato melted way too quickly and they really need a smaller size. The smallest size has 2 scoops for $6.50. Feels like they might benefit from a kid size cup or something. The Gelato itself tasted pretty good and they have a very appealing range of flavors, but I couldn't enjoy it that much because everything was melting down my hand within 3 seconds of receiving it and it was a Gelato iceberg with a melted moat within a few minutes. They probably need to work on the crystallization of the ice cream recipe a little better. The weather wasn't even that warm.
D. M.
Really good Gelato as always! And staff are quite friendly.
Because of COVID19 though, they're currently not allowing trying the ice cream flavours before buying. But you are sure to get amazing flavours anyway!
M. M.
Went there after dinner last week! It was packed! Thankfully we found a small table to sit down and I could enjoy my affogato! Love it! Go there before 9pm!!
T. V.
I’ve yet to find a better gelato here in Sydney. The affogato temporarily fixes any problems in your life, it’s that good! 5 stars for sure.
A. L.
Delicious gelato must try the lotus biscoff!
T.
The world famous afogatto ice cream was delicious. 6.50 for a waffle cone with 2 flavours... You buy cornettos for 4 dollars
Y. P. B.
It is always enjoyable to visit this place, have a number of taste bites and shortlist the flavours to be savoured on present visit. Staff is friendly and helpful in your selection process.
P. L.
Nice gelato with great flavor! love their window sided seats
S. K.
Huge queue is well justified. Amazing ice cream. I’d really recommend the cheesecake flavour.
B. E.
Good taste, good price gelato icecream
H. S. Y.
Tried their award winning flavors it was really good but do take note it melts really fast so finish it fast!! Friendly staff n overall great experience :-)
k. C.
Cow and Moon make the best Pear Cake and Banana Smoothies in NSW.
A. D.
Always a go-to when in Newtown. The sizes of the scoops are very generous and of course the gelato is some of the best you'll find (if not THE best)
c. a.
Hi Olivia.
Thank you for explaining to me your policy so professionally of the no making of coffee 30 min before closing.
Maybe you should put a sign up also as we waited a good 20 min before that from about 9pm.
Enjoy your day and I hope your staff has a good day also.
C. K.
$8 for 3 scoops ain’t bad! On its own, their gelatos offer a rich, creamy, subtle approach. I still prefer Messina’s chunky gelatos but that won’t stop me from coming back here.
G.
One of the best ice creams you would get in Sydney. Staff is quite friendly and offers great service.
K.
Delicious creamy gelato, friendly service. Bought a green tea orange choc gelato cake off the shelf and it was so good! The green tea flavour was awesome ( not that cheap condensed milk version, the real matcha stuff!) and the orange choc gelato tasted so good together. Sounds funky but tastes great!
T. H.
An awesome selection of award winning gelato. Be prepared to queue!
L. K.
Seriously amazing Gelato. One of the best in Sydney if not the Best. A long line outside means you know it's good. Got a 1 Litre tub with 3 different flavour combos in there and all 3 were very impressive. I don't understand the 4 Star reviews. If everything was spot on why not just give the 5 stars?!. Definitely recommended.
K. T.
Great gelato - my kids absolutely love the gelato at Massimo’s in Noosa and said this was as good. My daughter said the mango was the best she has ever had. Refreshing after the great curries at Colombo Social
E. L.
I don't normally like their gelato as they are too sweet for me, however their tumeric gelato is amazing!! 😋
R. S.
One of the best icecream shops I've been to in Sydney.
The flavors are out of this 🌎.
Highly recommended
C. K.
If this ice cream was the reward for getting the jab, we would have been done by now. 5/5.
K. T. C.
Truly one of the best gelato. Smooth and creamy..
P. Y.
Amazing ice cream and friendly crew! I love how so many adults frequent this space, it's not just kids who love their gelato!
D. R.
Great ice cream,friendly staff
K. Y. F.
Ice cream here has won awards and is the best.
D. R.
Their ice cream is so good! A great variety of flavours available and they add new flavours often. I love to come here when I feel like having yummy ice cream. On the other hand, their pastries are not very good, I would go somewhere else if you wanna have cake or a pastry.
A. H.
Great icecream here, so many different flavours. TREAT yourself.
D.
Glorious creamy ice-cream, one of my favourites in Sydney.
When it's in stock, recommendation is the rose earl grey flavour.
S. M.
Always excellent - great gelato, consistently well-made coffee, friendly service and pretty efficient service given the number of customers. It's very busy though due to its fame. 5 - 6:30 is a quieter time before it gets really busy again so remember, life is short; eat dessert first.
j. h.
Awesome ice cream try the raspberry cheesecake it's 👌👌👌
S. Y. L.
I tried the pistachio and the affogato flavour, which are both really tasty
E. H.
The ice cream here is the best I've tried. The queue is long during the evenings (never a queue in the daytime) but its worth it.
M. M.
No parking anywhere, extremely hard to find... Prices were very high for the amount of Gelato you get... The 2 scoops you order look like a 1 scoop from another Gelato Bar... Very stingy on the amount of Gelato they give you... Sorry just being honest... Staff were very helpful and the Gelato was very tasty...
C. M.
Best Gelato in Sydney maybe the country. Original flavours you can't get anywhere else. They even have a unique and high quality take on traditional flavours
A. D.
Hands down the best gelato I've ever had. And I've tried a lot! The texture is so smooth and the flavours are intense but natural. Strawberry and balsamic vinegar flavour for the win!
Would love to do a gelato making workshop with them at some point.
I now live in London and still big up this place when anyone says they're going to Sydney.
S. S.
The BEST gelato in Sydney, with the best selection of flavours. If you have never been, you really should take some time out of your day to try it !
J. T.
Very nice ice cream. Nice decor
P. G.
Excellent customer service from team member Isy. Keep up the great work!!
F. 2.
Beautiful ice cream and gelato for years. We always stop here to buy desert for the origin matches and special events. Only thing is that it is a bit pricey.
M. “. B.
Hearty and friendly gelato ice cream bar. Abundant variety of flavours with a real authentic home made taste. Great milkshakes from the gelato available. Pastries and coffees available
S.
Ice cream was yummy but nothing special, it melted faster then any ice cream I have encountered in my life. It wasn't even an especially hot day and it was melting nearly faster than I could eat it.
It's a popular place so it was very crowded.
H. A.
I believe his name was Oscar. No longer was he an imposter. His beautiful charm did my swollen heart harm. His hair may need a brushin’ but he had my heart a blushin’. He was so dreamy that the room was getting steamy. His sweet Spanish hips had me tastin gianduia on my lips. And Finn was professional too.
w. h.
Delicious Unique flavours. Creamy soft gelato.
Flavours: single o latte and mango macadamia.
T. G.
Been coming here for years and when I was younger and cuter, there was one male staff member who used to slip me sweeties with a twinkle in his eye. I know gelato - and even went on to make my own homemade gelato - because I was so inspired by their amazing flavours. Their gelati is up there with the best in Firenze!
C. M.
A wide selection of delicious gelato, with some exciting flavours. The Elderberry and the Affogato are standouts, and the Strawberries & Cream actually has real pieces of strawberry in it. Be prepared to queue if you're going during the evening.
S. R.
Delicious sweets as usual! Highly recommend trying their vanilla flavour - very creamy and milky.
S. P.
The rumours are true; this really is a cracking ice-cream place! Gingerbread ice-cream was like Christmas in a cup and the affogato flavour was as great as we hoped it would be! We'll be back ... Weekly.
S. Y.
I'm a Messina guy. The gelato at Cow & The Moon is always fantastic. I prefer the range of flavours at Messina, but you can't fault the quality at C&TM. It's a no brainier dessert option when you're in the area.
K. D.
The best ice cream place, that I have visited to date. Being an avid fan of ice cream itself as a dessert. I have frequented quite a few different places, and by far Cow & the Moon is hands down my favourite.
They have a changing menu of different flavours, which consist of gelato and sorbet. I myself don’t enjoy pistachio nuts, but their pistachio ice cream, is incredibly creamy and tastes authentic. None of their ice creams taste artificial or icy. Texture has always been consistently creamy and smooth
A. W.
Absolutely love this place. The flavours are amazing. My favourite is the strawberry and balsamic. Two flavours I never would have thought to put together and they work so well! Even their plain vanilla is amazing! This is hands down my favourite place to get ice cream/gelato/sorbet and absolutely crushes all other chains out there!!
F. B.
Fantastic flavours, amazing yet simple and modest
The texture for me was the real winner
2 scoops per serve
Can't recommend enough
N. D.
I wish I could give more than 5 stars..
Definitely the best gelato I have ever had..
It was super super busy but the staff was serving each customer with a smile.
Serving size is too big (which is a good thing), so if you’re like me, only like enjoying it to an extent and not hog it down), then request them to give limited serving and not fill it up to the top..
Am definitely going here again for my desserts, even though its a damn 45min drive from my place..
Love it!!!
p. s.
The food was delicious and good price. On the other side, the girls don't have a clue terrible service. We had to change table couple of times, the place is byo and don't have ice buckets to offer.we have to ask for cutlery and glasses. What a shame guys!
J. C. T.
Best gelato in Sydney. I must pay a visit everytime I'm in Newtown.
K. K.
Hands down the best gelato I have ever had. Their flavors are very unique and their fruit ice cream taste really fresh. Try their mango sorbet it's delicious. Great coffee too!
P. T.
Wonderful selection of gelatos offered here. Quality ingredients used. I've tried 2 flavours when I got there last time and ended up getting both them because they were that good! I'm keen to try the rest next time!
a. v.
Hands dpwn the best gelato i ever had 😍😍😍
A. S.
Can get a bit busy, but the ice cream doesn't disappoint. Interesting mix of flavours and fairly good coffee as well. I've found the ice cream here has a tendency to melt faster than other places, so you have to be quick!
K.
Good range of flavours prices are on par for icecream, would go there again.
N.
Love this place! Service was great, the place is cosy and clean, just enough selections so you won't get overwhelmed and the ice creams are so creamy/delicious! My favourites are the peanut Nutella and banana salted caramel. Try their special flavours too, they are usually quite adventurous and really tasty. Definitely will be back!
E.
Ice Cream was nice but they did not allow taste testing. They blamed Covid but other Ice Cream shops have small throw away spoon / stick for tasting. Covid Excuse.
S. W.
Superb! The ice cream were just peferfect! A good variety of flavours. The staff were friendly and customer focussed. We'll be back very soon!!
N. D.
They are awesome. It s the best ice cream ever. Highly recommended also affogato flavor is absolutely delicious. Staff always friendly even they've got busy. Sometime they look so tired but still trying to smile. 👌👌👌
S. S.
Queue was was very long & well beyond the building, but it was worth the wait. We ended up getting a 500ml take away tub as it work3d out better value for money ($15 for 500ml tub as opposed to 2x $6.50 small scoops). Delightful flavours! Will be back!
B. J.
Exquisite flavours all around, at great prices for considerable prices that aren't just your regular-sized scoops. Definitely worth being crowned as one of Sydney's best ice-cream shops, if not the best. Pretty cool place to chill, spend some time with trendy connoisseurs.
N. C.
Thought we stop by as our little one fell asleep and we were blown away. My wife had the chocolate and I'm a die hard coffee ice cream fan. THE BEST ICE CREAM IN TOWN!
H. S. B.
One of the best Gelato in Sydney. No comparison and amazing place.
T. B.
Exceptional ice cream. The best we've had in a long time. Burnt Butter was just bursting with rich flavour, balanced out, in the same cone, with some fresh nutting tastes of the toasted coconut.
P. F. G.
Love their varsity of flavours, their turmeric ice cream is a must try
T. L.
We lined up for 30 minutes as the queue was stretching around the corner - but so worth it!!! Amazing range of flavors all done to perfection. Also they do great ice cream cakes, very artisian and reasonably priced! Was very impressed with the coffee there too for afogatto. I would say they have the best cookies & cream ice cream in town!
T. H.
Best icecream in sydney!!!
M. R.
This is probably the best Gellato ice cream I had sampled in Sydney. Their chocolate is extremly pure and rich in taste.
But you have to go there early as lines start getting out of the shop at night time. Richly deserved reputation.
H. M. M.
The icecream here is good, GOOD. You can tell you're in the right hands here when you see the numerous awards displayed on the wall. Highly recommend anything except vanilla which we shouldn't have had, because it was a bit plain. But everything else looked delicious and we'll be back!
m. t. l.
Best gelato in Sydney no doubt! Even now that I have moved away from Inner West, I still come back just for their gelato!
c. a.
At the top of the trade. I believe they barely missed another trophy by a small serve.
S. R.
Best ice cream in Sydney! Loved it even before it started winning awards and before there were lines! Tried various flavours,I would only say one flavour I didn't like but that's out of the at least 10 different flavours I've tried!
R. K.
Great ice cream and sorbet
N. K.
Great icecream. Although I don't quite get the take away only tubs policy where 500ml tubs, popular for sharing, can't be consumed on premise. It suggests that the discount is reflective of the reduced cost to the business for cleaning the venue and opportunity cost from venue space when people takeaway but makes me think I should get a discount on my smaller purchases cause we never eat in anyway. It just seems a bit odd. 500ml encourage you to buy/consume more but just not on venue.
c. A.
What great ice cream. Very popular but understandably so. You can have a little taster of an ice cream you may choose, but don't try to taste them all it will not work. Great staff helpful
S. K.
Cow and the moon is a one of a kind shop. It provides a fun and interesting place to eat, drink and lick. It is well known for its amazing ice - cream. The ice cream is a must when you go there and it goes well with the other delicious treats. They have got many awards and are always welcome for a new customer. The story behind the name is a must ask question.
A. K.
Love the gelato place. They have a lot of flavours to choose from. I always make sure i try new flavours everytime i go.
My favourite would be their watermelon sorbet ❤️
J. C.
Love the ice cream here, great atmosphere as well. Got served by a young bloke named Henry, absolutely great customer service. The award winning ice cream is great too, a must-have.
M. T.
Lovely local spot for some interesting gelato flavours that work well. My favourite is pistachio (not the most original!) but their fig/mascarpone is yummy too. Sit outside at one of their tables and people watch as you eat your gelato. Perfect way to spend the afternoon.
J. C.
Some of the best ice cream I have ever eaten. I’ve recommended this place to lots of family and friends and they couldn’t agree more.
J. T.
The ice cream here are simply tasty with many flavours to choose from. They also change up the options every now and then. They also do coffee and cakes here as well. It can get busy at times and there can be a line.
There are seats available inside and outside but these are few. Usually people come here to takeaway ice cream so you should be able to find seats.
G. P.
Definitely in the top 3 Artisan gelato shops in Sydney and the queues outside prove this. The gelato is nice and stretchy, and had a great dense consistency. Much effort has been made to get the flavours of each variety just right. They are all intense without being over the top (I know because I have had them all). This is also one of the very very few gelato places that use flat paddles to peel the gelato just like in Italy, rather than "ball" scooping. Why is this good? It means you get more gelato! Ball scoops are portion control.
J. C.
Pretty standard gelato place. Didn't turn on aircon so the gelato started melting the second you get hold of it. Stepping outside into the rain didn't help.
s.
Great variety of gelato that is so deliciously creamy! I love the fig and mascarpone flavour - it's a combination that works so well!! The Queenslander is another favourite of mine - mango and macadamia is a match made in heaven. Have never been disappointed with any of the flavours here.
P. F.
Nice and smooth gelato but to be honest I expected a bit more kick of flavour. Nevertheless, one of the bests in Sydney
R. K.
Amazing gelato! Great range of flavours!
R. S.
Pretty decent ice cream can't go wrong.
R. A.
One of the best gelato I've visited in my life. I'm in love with the lemon cheesecake, mandorla affogato, peanutzilla and sticky date crumble. These guys never stop surprising you. Interesting flavours and consistently amazing quality. Try some queenslander or passionfruit creme for a burst of fruity flavours.
E. M.
This gelato is absolutely outstanding!!
We were more than happy to queue for around 10 minutes after receiving our gelato! Absolutely incredible flavours… We shared a each other’s gelato so we could try a few extra flavours… Best I have ever had! Can’t wait to come back and have another one soon.
G. D.
How can you fault this place. Always delicious. Plan your trip as it gets busy at peak times and also parking close by can be an issue.
I brought my partner here when we first met and I credit this place to her falling in love with me.
s. m.
Possibly the best ice cream in Sydney. They always have really unique flavours that you wouldn't think would work and then you try it and it is fantastic. Have been there a few times and it has taken me quite a while to be served. Place gets quite busy in the evenings so don't go expecting a table.
l. p.
Some of the best icecream in sydney. Huge range of flavours. Be prepared for a little wait as it is popular but well worth it. Tryvsome of the fresh seasonal flavours recommend the elderberry if it is on offer. Minimal seating inside and out so be prepared to grab and go
F. J.
Great-very popular- place for the best authentic gelato in town, and a coffee to match!
J. R. S.
I think everyone pretty much knows that Cow & The Moon has amazing ice cream, so I would like to focus my praise on the great music this place has. It is always different and it never disappoints! I wish more cafés in Enmore/Newtown understood that music is crucial to create a great atmosphere and client experience (playing the radio or the 40 hits of the moment it’s a mood killer!).
J. M.
Hard to spot but once you know of the place you simply cannot resist going back time & time again. Delicious choices of icecreams, totally a must to take the family not just the kids. Grandparents enjoy it too ♡
G. K.
So my wife suddenly decides to have gelato at 10 pm! A quick Google (yes it's a verb) indicated that this was the place to be. 15 minutes later we were here and my god the Gelato was good!! We had turkish delight, cherry mania, raspberry sorbet and blueberry cheesecake. And it was divine!! One of the best gelato places I've been to
B. -. K.
Really tasty gelato!! Went on a Saturday night and it took about 10-15 mins for us to even get to the counter, that’s how long the line was. But it was definitely worth it! The gelato flavors are really good but the overall presentation of the gelato ice cream cone was a bit off. The scoops weren’t like normal gelato or ice cream scoops. Perhaps because of how busy they are there isn’t much time to make it look pretty. Regardless it was quite delicious.
P. C.
This has always been my favourite gelato place. They were awesome before any awards and still are awesome. I am impressed with how they coped with the crowds.
Too many flavour options to comment and pick a favourite.
Mostly i love that the cow and moon brings people down Enmore Rd, away from King St. Enmore Rd is where the interesting stuff is.
A. W.
will detour here even if no need to be within 20km of it. They have perfected the gelato-art form: super texture and great balance, not too sweet, don't focus on crazy gut-churning combinations but instead get the basics spot-on. Often just get the plain vanilla or chocolate because even the simple flavours are blissful.
Often busy but line moves quickly!
E. P.
Love this gelato place, worth the wait!!! pomegranate and passionfruit are my favourite flavors.
D. V.
Excellent service and even better ice cream. It's obvious the quality and care that goes into this business, and it makes it all the better an experience that you'll be happy to go out of your way for! I tried the cherry ripe, and the orange and chocolate ice creams (highly recommended).
G. S.
Service always nice and patient. Great ice cream flavours at reasonable prices. Parking tricky during peak times. Getting there before the after dinner/Enmore show rush means less waiting. Line moves quickly even at peak times but seating gets tricky.
C.
Totally worth the line on a late summer weekday! By far the best ice cream I’ve ever had, and weekly specials are reason alone to keep coming back. Would highly recommend the pistachio
Y. N.
Never disappoints. Great intense flavours, not OTT with crazy combinations, just nice flavours. They also rotate flavours which is good and bad (bad only because you might not get what you're after but you can always try another flavour)
A. B.
Believe the hype, to some extent. Great selection of flavours but notably lacking in any ice cream with significant texture. Expect smooth and creamy, and although there's plenty on offer, you won't see mant chunky, crunchy or complex options.
Z. A.
Great little ice cream shop. Fair amount of variety and reasonably priced. Friendly helpful staff as well.
Was in Sydney for work and found this place. Well worth a visit if your near this place.
D. S.
Food: 4/5 - Good quality ice-cream, but a bit too sweet for me (I ordered Mandorla Affogato). Maybe I should try some different flavours.
Services: 5/5 - Very fast and professional staff.
B. T.
Mostly you join a queue and trail past lots of sticky delights before two freezers of gelato appear. Fast selections are a must. Those who want to taste everything can be a pain. Mostly reasonable value although a bit on the expensive side.
C. C.
The best ice cream place in Newtown. Love it.
k. c.
This place has dozens of award-winning flavours of gelati and sorbetabsolutely the smoothest gelati that I've ever experienced, hands down. As summer comes on, expect the queues to be full.
A. D.
Good but overrated. Flavours are hit & miss. Texture can be a bit inconsistent – rosemary chocolate flavour was amazingly creamy and smooth at first, but had several unpleasant shards of ice.
S. C.
Basically the tastiest ice cream I've ever had. Plenty of original choices, including pop corn, bergamot, and others. It change often so do not expect a particular flavor. Even if there is always a queue, you better go during the day instead of after dinner, then it's worth waiting 10min.
A. N.
Your icecream and avocato ice cream is very good and delicious. But i give you this feedback, please dont be sad, the area of sitting is a little bit small, please make it bigger. Have a good afternoon.
E. H.
Ice cream and cake quality are excellent
T. G.
One of the best ice cream/sorbet joints in Sydney. They have a huge selection of dairy goods and all are of the finest quality. The coffee here is great especially if you get Scotty P behind the machine. If you don't wanna get dessert at one of the surrounding restaurants then i highly recommend stopping in here after. It is small so can get busy but there is always the take away option ;)
J. O.
Every time I'm in the area, without fail I will stop by for some pistachio gelato. And what's even better, get two flavours when you purchase a small!
A.
Awesome ice cream. The mint is the best! Staff can be a little moody but can’t blame them as the place can get quite busy. Good luck on a Saturday night! Line is out the dooooooooor.
S. K.
Amazing gelato! Love it!
L. L.
Great ice cream, and if you love ice cream, it's worth the price. There is almost always a queue during dinner service hours, but that's more a good sign than bad, if you are happy to wait.
E. W.
Amazing quality gelato with a great selection of flavours - always hits the spot!
Service is hit or miss though
R. D.
Definitely not the best gelato in the world...are you kidding! Its above average for sure and Messina, also not the world's best, is much better. Lacks taste and texture but creamy factor is nice. This place has too much hype for what it is. The connoisseur ice cream from the supermarket does a better cookies and cream. Expected much better given the accolades, its just okay for me.
B. H.
Been to many places over the years, including Messina, but Cow and The Moon take the title. Between the 3 of us we got to sample 6 varieties of gelato...and every single one was amazing. Usually one might fall a bit short in flavour as it usually does in other establishments, but not here. Full of flavour, the small size was plenty for 1 person. The only issue we had was choosing what flavour we wanted. My belly is still rejoicing.
H. G.
Great coffee - we come here regularly and the coffee is consistently great. The pastries are also excellent - I especially love the strawberry or blueberry danish. SO good!
A. H.
This cafe won a competition for the best gelato in the world a couple of years ago and with that seems to come a bit of attitude, no doubt encouraged by the queue often snaking out the door. So be prepared for that. The gelato is very good, the coffee service and other food items so so.
I'm not prepared to queue so only go there occasionally when it's quiet, and strictly for the gelato. If you want a more authentic Italian gelato/pastry/coffee experience go to Leichhardt, especially the venerable old cafe/bistro right at the farthest end of the shopping strip from Parramatta Road. Belissimo, faintly reminds of similar in Rome.
S.
Tried a little something different.. ordered a hot chocolate with roasted coconut and cookies & cream, then dunked the ice cream in the hot choccie... BRUHHH so good!!! Thanks Eva for your service and dealing with my slightly bizarre request :)
S. S.
There is always a line which means it’s definitely worth the wait. Trust me, get in line and be patient cause ur not gonna be disappointed. Best Gelato around. For a small dessert bar they are definitely making waves.
W. E.
Very very nice ice cream, plenty of flavours to choose from. Staff are friendly, helpful and patient. Prices are standard for ice cream. Must try the elderberri (if they still have it). Definite recommend.
S. E.
If you want to treat yourself to the best Gelato come to "Cow & Moon". I don't know how a gelato can get better than this, absolutely best in the world..
E. D.
There is no doubting this place is THE PLACE (yes I shouted) for gelato. Amazing, just amazing. Their award winning affagato flavour is just the beginning of yummiest. Added bonus, they have great coffee and awesome stuff. I wish you all the best. You deserve every success!
G. G.
All flavours delicious and creamy- love that they rotate flavours so always something new to try.
S. H. (.
Great service and gelato but the smoothie was bad. The strawberry balsamic gelato was beautiful and the award winning affragato gelato won awards for a reason. I also enjoyed the passionfruit creme and candied orange.
I. D.
There's a reason this place won best in the world, it's amazing. Tried their new tonic coffee today. Have to stop every time I go passed.
T. R.
Still my yard stick for high quality Gelato, with few peers in Sydney that I’m aware of. Their Pistachio and Vanilla are standouts. But above all are is the hot chilli chocolate - we drive from the Northern beaches for that alone.
V. W.
I like it better than Gelato Messina because it's more simple and sophisticated! The flavours are well-considered. The texture is smooth and chewy! I think Gelato Messina would definitely appeal to a younger audience that enjoys exotic and loaded gelato.
H. C.
I goes without saying that their ice cream is THE BEST.
Service is excellent, both efficient and friendly, even though they are very busy, most of the time.
My favourite is still the affoggato, though all the others I have tasted are just as exquisite
I have coffee there most days. Morning and evening. It is always A1
It is heartening to see such a hard working, lovely family achieve the success they deserve.
N. N.
The gelato is great and the taste is amazing! Perfect temperature, nice big servings (2 scoops for a small!!!!!), and friendly staff. I think they live up to their best in the world award.
m. f.
Always great gelato!!!
W. N.
Went for here for an afternoon snack on a 30 degreesC day before seeing Harry Styles perform. Hands down BEST gelato I have ever eaten. The elderflower and hazelnut flavours were heavenly. Will definitely return!
n. w.
The best gelato in Sydney 👍 since I have been coming here my heart never lets me go elsewhere 😋 My to die for would always be ‘raspberry cheesecake and affogato’
E.
Delicious gelato which is of course the speciality here, but also a good cafe to sit and have coffee and gelato maybe after one of the great Enmore restaurants or theatre. We had chai lattes, which are a bit different, quite spicy and not to my wife's liking but I enjoyed it, actually both.
E. C.
This place has a lot of hype, but it lives up to it. The line up is worth it (also it moves fairly quickly). Generous servings.
H. D.
Best gelato is Sydney, hands down. Do yourself a favour and try the Single O Latte flavour, or the award winning Mandorla Affogato 👍
C. P.
Best icecream in town. Much better than a bigger franchise that shall not be named. Try the popcorn icecream, tastes unbelievablely like popcorn and great.
J. S.
Look no further than Cow and moon for the best gelato in Sydney! Highly recommend the affogato (there is a reason why it won awards!) or the breakfast muesli if you are feeling adventurous. There seasonal specials tend to be awesome as well! Dangerous place to live near as I would be always there.
J.
This place is good for coffee and gelato. You may not get a seat on a Friday or Saturday night as there is limied seating. Convenient location- we had dinner across the road so this was perfect. Only question is, which flavour to choose?
C. W.
Hands down the best gelato on the planet. Literally. Unique, creative flavours. The texture, smoothness and full bodied flavours are exceptional. This is head and shoulders above any other gelato I have ever experienced (and I eat a lot of gelato). You'll queue to purchase but this is a small price to pay for the delicious result.
C. B.
Best gelato; BEST gelato ever. Be prepared to line up at night though it’s worth it when you buy the product. Nice retro vibe inside the cafe, good music. Wouldn’t recommend planning to spend more than 30 mins here though as the place can get pretty crammed. Overall just a great experience. Must recommend the mandarin sorbet ;)
O. T.
Come for the affogato, stay for the strawberry and balsamic. It's always good here. Service has never been less than expected. Hot tip, don't be unreasonable with service staff and they won't have to tell you things you don't want to hear.
T. S.
I live just around the corner and I love the gelato here but, honestly, your scoop system is just silly - I rarely want 2 scoops of gelato! I've basically defected to Messina because they offer smaller scoop options.
A. W.
A great example of amazingly delicious gelato. The pistachio actually taste like pistachios, unlike the candy taste you normally get from other places. Consistently good and great little desert spot if you're in newtown.
Y. D.
I have sweet tooth so I have had a lot of ice creams around the world. The ice cream here is top notch and worth 4-5 star. However, it’s not life changing in my opinion and world’s no.1 is kinda for marketing purpose
B. T.
Best icecream in Sydney by far. Staff a generally easygoing and friendly. Gelato is exceptional compared to the competition. I usually buy their 1.5L tubs because of C@M's awesomeness.
E. B.
Supposedly the best Gelato in the WORLD. I wouldn't go that far but it is pretty darn good. Decent creamy servings (more generous and cheaper than Messina albeit less intense flavours). Don't even think about getting a seat though...
A. M.
Decent creamy gelato on offer, but all flavours on offer when I was there were all sweet i.e. no dark bitter chocolate or pistachio etc. Service was also so so.
F. W.
Only three stars and that's just for the gelato. Others have raved about the great service, but I always find most of the staff have a consistent standard of haughtiness that detracts from the loveliness of the product. If you like your gelato with attitude this place will not disappoint.
P. H.
Wide variety of artisan gelato, can be a long line but very much worth the wait.
C. B.
Hubby and I have wanted to try Cow and the Moon for a while now so we were hyped to finally eat some! Boy does it live up to it's reputation! Ice cream was super smooth and creamy and the flavours were spot on! I had the bella choc and salted caramello. My 17 month old loved it and I could have honestly just kept eating it if i wasn't so full... great serving sizes. We had the small which is up to 2 flavours in a cup. Can't wait to go back!
N. D.
Baristas are really passionate about coffee that they make. Few places in sydney will froth milk for each cup individually, in order to make it perfect. And espresso itself is very good quality and tastes fantastic! Highly recommending their gelato and deserts! Legendary place!
K. H.
When my friends found out I had never eaten here before they immediately demanded I go and try the ice cream. They, then, blamed me when they also had to buy ice cream. Logic is not our strong suit.
Price was high but the ice creams were specialty and you can get two different flavours for one "scoop".
H. T.
Best gelato I've ever had, Cow & Moon especially excel at the simple flavours which are done to perfection, pistachio always being my go to. Not as flashy with their flavours like Messina, but there is really only one winner when it comes to the classics.
C. X.
The gelato was overly sweet and a little sickening in large amounts, but their sorbets are excellent and actually tastes like what they're supposed to! Skip the world's best gelato and go straight for their iced selection instead, in my opinion.
G. D.
Top quality gelato with strong flavour and plenty of choice. They do sorbet, coffee, etc but I've never managed to make it past the gelato... Definitely the best in Sydney
M. D.
The best gelato in the world. Of course I had to try this place. The range is smaller and more classic than somewhere like Messina. I ordered the famous affogato flavour and two others. All the flavours were very creamy and well balanced. A bit of salt, a touch of bitterness and a good measure of sweet. The prices are excellent for what you get. Is it better than Messina? Not better but definitely on par.
W. B.
By far the best Gelato in the world haha. I love this place - it has so many flavours, and they are all so incredibly tasty! Staff are always quick to serve, and even though there may be lines quite often - they are quite quick. Highly recommended if you are looking for Gelato!
g.
I am not a big ice cream fan but this place is exceptional. It has a great selection of delicious gelato to choose from. There is a reason why always the line of people here and it is worth a wait.
N. F.
The gelato here is AMAZING - way better than Messina I think. Can't go wrong with the Honeycomb or Lemon Lime Ginger flavors! There was a line out the door when I went, but it moved quickly.
A. M.
Great gelato at a very reasonable price. The small cup comes with two scoops - what a lovely surprise! The selection is constantly rotating - last time I had a scoop of Sticky Date which was delicious.
B. K.
Inner West favourite with an incredible amount of delicious options...I am honestly trying to find a flavour I don't link and after many attempts have not yet succeeded! Find any excuse to come and visit, there is always room for sweets and this level of quality!!
M. N.
The sorbet is excellent, you can really see and taste the fruit bits in it. The Pistachio has a silky creaminess even with the pistachio pieces. Seating with tables are available and much appreciated. It isn't far enough to drive from Newtown but it's worth the short walk.
R. v. V.
The best ice cream I've had. The fig and mint, guava, turkish delight and pistachio flavours are all great. Their nut ice creams taste like nuts, and not like nut essence as is often the case.
M. H.
Usually a line up here and well worth it. Beautiful sorbet and icecream.
M. D.
Had the purple rain and the mint gelato. Was very good. There was a long line but it moved quickly for the most part, although it was a bit chaotic and unorganised. We got a table on a Friday night because people move on quickly. Worth a trip.
L. M.
A delicious ice creamery with a large variety (almost too many) of flavours. Gelato classics and crazy flavours are available, with quite a few sorbets as well. Reasonably priced, especially when it comes with the prestige of worlds greatest gelato from a few years back. Some Australian themed flavours (lamington, lemon myrtle) made it feel like a real aussie place.
J. N.
When you eat this ice cream you understand why it has won so many awards because it is so creamy, however I much prefer fun flavour like those found at Messina. Great to try once but I probably won't return and stand in line for 30 mins again.
A. A.
Cow and Moon never disappoints. One of the best Artisan Gilato around Newtown. Super friendly staff. And awesome flavours. On Friday evening, Saturday evening and Sunday lunch time, do expect a long que but it moves fast. And you can be sure that people are not queuing up for no reason.
S.
Tried 7 different flavors last night and loved all. Almond sorbet , pistachio, black sesame, poached strawberry, mango, Queensland mango, passionfruit.
The stand outs for me were the almond, pistachio and strawberry.
M. A.
Cow and the Moon has exotic flavours everyday. It changes daily the kinds of magnificent combinations of incredible ice cream flavours. Their hot chocolate is also a special. The coffee is not always magnificent but its known for its ice cream not its coffee. Ask for a tour of the gelato lab for a special treat. Great for kids too and they love to hear your flavour suggestions, except they didn't care for my ideas about baked beans and brussel sprouts., Pity
B. C.
Visited due to the shops winning of best gelato in italy. In complete scincerity and unreserved delight, i tell you that you will not find better gellato in the innerwest, Sydney, Australia, or even the world. Need i say more? Their record speaks for itself
M. L.
Amazing ice cream, open until late at night, always popular but lines moves fast, flavours always changing with something new, prices great for the deal.
On the main road, park on a small road nearby and walk to it.
Probably good for a date or late night dnm.
B. P.
Best gelato in Sydney! Must try affogato flavour which won the award for best gelato in the world. Not cheap, but they are pretty generous servings and you can choose 2 flavours for $6.
J. C.
Extremely popular gelato place with creamy icecream, a super long queue and a wide selection of interesting flavours. I personally find the ice cream a little too sweet.
Overall, not really worth the wait
A. R.
Love Cow and the Moon. Despite their huge growth in popularity over the last few years they've managed to stay true to their original goal of providing interesting and exciting ice cream and gelato. Inventive, fairly priced, and inoffensive service.
A. S. (.
I have heard that Cow & The Moon is amazing from many people.
It is pretty nice, and I probably will go back if I happen to be in the area and pass by.
I did like their award winning gelato, but will I go out of my way to get some...probably not.
Despite that, if you have not tried it, it is still worth making the trip. :)
K.
Can’t get enough of it 😋😋😋 it’s too delicious’
G. N.
There's a good reason why they were voted the Best Ice Cream in the world. It goes down like silk, staff are accommodating, flavours so vivid (I'm not a poet, and I know it)
L.
Found this place by accident after dropping my laptop for repair, and I still say it's one of the best gelato places, and I much prefer it to the likes of Messina and Anita.
Staff is friendly, price is reasonable, and portion is generous. Will be coming back for sure.
J. H.
Amazing creamy ice cream! My top 2 favourite ice cream shop in Sydney. Definitely recommend the pistachio flavour.
w. x.
Small place but has one of the best icecreams around in the area ! Really interesting flavors too like balsamic vinegar. I also had a coffee there which was quite good. Highly recommend for night snack.
S. S.
Very delicious gelato! We had the roasted matcha and pomegranate flavour, both were so good!
I. I.
Love it when they have pomegranate flavoured gelato which they don't always have!😋
M. P.
Favourite gelato in Sydney.
This is some of the smoothest, most flavoursome gelato I've ever eaten (and I've had gelato in Italy). As far as gelato I've eaten in my entire life, this is in the top 3.
Y. D.
Delicious gelato and a good range of flavours. Be prepared to line up at peak times, but it's definitely worth it. The sizes are generous for the price
A. T.
best pistachio gelato in town! Opens til late and special ice-cream cakes, chocolate and other delicious sweet treat also on offer. Also worth trying is the blood orange sorbet!
杨.
my favorite ice-cream!!! walnut with caramel waiter recommanded for me impress me. 1scope 4.5 dollar is really cheap coz u can choose 2 favors and the ice-cream is full of the cup like 2 scopes in other shop. really friendly waiter.
M. K.
Lemon sorbet is imperial to living. It is by far the best lemon sorbet I've had.
They really care about the quality of icecream they serve, and it's evident in their quality.
Service is always good
W. K.
Must try. Some unique flavours that really surprise you how well they work in a gelato. Basil, earl grey, and elderberry are my highlights so far. Can't wait to try more.
a.
Amazing selection of gelato, delicious!!Long queues on Saturday night, about 30 people, but worth it. Messina is too sweet. The staff were very friendly, clean the tables every 5 minutes.
k. l.
Ammazzzinngg. Yes there can be queues but you usually don't have to wait too long. Plus there aren't many other places that will charge you only $5.50 for two scoops. I also recommend the ice creams, had one last year as a birthday present from a friend & 👌👌👌
r. J.
Great flavours, best gelato ever. Affogato is my all time favourite but the turmeric& cardamom and black sesame I tried today were up there too.
B. R.
Always delicious, there is a reason hey have won best gelato in the world. Not as overly sweet as Massina's.
M. T.
Incredible gelato, even with a small cone you get offered 2 scoops of different flavours!
M. A.
The ice cream is absolutely great, but the staff are not enthusiastic and don't seem to care really. They don't demonstrate an understanding of the difference between the flavors and seem to be as clueless as the customers they're serving.
M. T.
The texture and creaminess of the gelatos are up there with the best you can get in Italy. But I personally prefer the flavour selections from Gelato Messina instead.
V. Y.
Awesome Ice Cream. Very much worth the wait
T. T.
Very tasty ice-cream and good coffee, abit expensive
L. R.
There was a line out the door when we arrived but we were served in under 10 mins and the flavours were worth it. Creamy with fresh ingredients, the balsamic and strawberry tasted like real strawberries not just like strawberry flavouring.
E. C.
One of the best gelato places in Sydney, just try not to get caught during peak period when there's quite a line. Still worth the wait though, especially for their award winning affogato.
u.
C&M lived up to the hype and exceeded my expectations. It is reasonably priced where a Medium includes 3 flavours at $6.50 for the quality on offer and the fact they are generous with the elements folded through - every spoon had a nut. Went lunchtime on a Saturday and there was a 5 minute queue than, I've heard of a 40 minute wait at night. 5-star no doubt and mandorla affogato was one of the best gelato I've had. The layout could be improved as with their success, long queues line up perpendicular to the display fridges making it hard to see the flavours on offer and this actually slows down service. Simple fix would be to list the flavours of the day on a large TV.

Delicious Ice Cream! Just so so good, lots of creative flavours.
The staff are lovely and very helpful. Great treat for the family
S. B.
The best ice cream I have ever tasted! Always has top notch flavours which they mix up frequently. Also, staff are really friendly.
L. L.
Over hyped? NO! Cuz the gelato here really is that great!
They're also constantly coming up with new flavours everytime I visit!
plus the fat free sorbet selections down the end for when you became aware that you lack self restrain in front of the World's Best Gelato wins my heart everytime. I'm going after writing this... dang..
s. s.
The gelato was very good
The service was good and prompt
It is the best and I will recommend every one of you to visit this place and enjoy their desert and hospitality
J. L.
I only ever get their famous affagato gelato, it's awesome. If I'm ever in the area for dinner, always come here for dessert. Have to queue on weekends but the line moves pretty fast and I think it's worth it.
m.
cool selection of gelato and sorbets! vegetarian friendly and also friendly staff!
(their chili hot chocolate will tickle your throat though..)
K. K.
Delicious ice-cream with luxurious flavors. Made with quality ingredients, combined to make the most delicate flavors. Definitely worth waiting in the long line for!
D. S.
Simply best gelato ever! When crowds, service it’s a bit slow. But fair enough. ♥️
P. M.
Actually discovered this place while at the Noodle Market in Hyde Park, we tried the popcorn flavoured gelato and fell in love with it. Decided it was worth visiting the actual location after that really positive experience and luckily we were not disappointed. The cafe has a wide selection of gelato as well as some other desserts. Definitely try the Popcorn flavoured gelato, but given the wide selection you'll be hard pressed to settle for just one flavour.
T. D.
Delightful, unusual flavours and great pastry, this is a desert lovers wet dream.
Not a Messina but quite close, open late (who doesn't want to eat ice cream at 10:30?) with good coffee (Campos), service can swing to either end of the extreme but the flavours are to DIE FOR. Try the Lime in the Coconut and the Passionfruit sorbet and be new love of any dinner party
S. A.
Ice cream is incredible, however the lady serving me was off her chops on something. Was like speaking to a zombie, I had to repeat myself 5 times for her to understand what I was ordering, even after that she got it wrong.
O. H.
Some of the best gelato I have had in Australia. Some interesting flavours, even one that one a world championship, affogato. I tried the Bella chocolate, salted Caramello and spagnola (sour cherry). All the flavors were delicious, the chocolate was rich, the Caramello had a layer of caramel over the top of a delicious Caramel ice cream, but my favourite was the spagnola, the sour cherries mixed with vanilla gelato was just unbeatable. If your sweet tooth is calling, head to Chow & The Moon for a fix.
M. T.
The best quality gelato in Sydney! Yes, better than Messina. A great spot to catch up with friends over hot chocolate, cake and of course copious amounts of ice-cream.
C. L.
Came here before they got crowned best gelato in the world and after that too. And boy, the lines just got so much longer, especially on Saturday nights. Great gelato, the Affogato flavour is to die for, latte is also awesome. Bit of a trek to get there however it won't be stopping me!
K. C.
Love the gelato here, especially the Mandorla affogato..my goodness! $5 gets you a good sized scoop of flavourful deliciousness, haven’t come here for anything else although the cakes look great too!
C. P.
I have been going to Cow & The Moon for quite some time and I can't pass up the Bella Chocolate flavour. It's dark chocolate so not super sweet and irresistibly perfect! I havn't been since the queues started and not sure any gelato is worth a 30 minute wait but if there isn't a long queue then go for it! It won't disappoint your taste buds.
L.
Ice cream is great here, they've won awards for it too. Depending on what day you go on the line can be 1-2 metres long. Staff are attentive and friendly.
S. G.
Great ice cream, especially the chocolate flavour
C. B.
I love icecream. I really love it. And this place is awesome.
Quirky Enmore flavours and some classics. My favourite is Strawberry with Balsamic Vinegar. To die for!
The small size comes with two flavours which is awesome.
And they have a weird gelato/coffee/affogato thing going on that I'm dying to try... mulled berry affogato?? Yes please!!
There's always a bit of a line and struggle to find a seat... but that just speaks to the quality of the gelato!!!
Mmmmm. Gelato.
R. W.
You can see why this place was an award winner still to this day. Fantastic range, good coffee, cakes etc. They've done well making chairs and tables work, though it can get squishy in there. Really lovely staff too, especially with the kids.
周.
Ice creams are not as good as expected..
But ice tea is good!
M. Z.
Love their Affagato ice cream, lovely restaurant and staff!
S. K.
Ice cream is good but service is not. My friends got icecream and I lined up for coffee. Barista was talking to a customer. he saw I was waiting but jut ignored me. I gave up. I don't want to support a place that ignores people. Will not be back.
P. K.
Great place for ice creams, cakes, gelatos.
Service - Awesome.
Crowd - Class.
Ambience and Seating - Superb.
Taste and Quality - Nothing like Anything, amazing.
Quantity - Pleasing and Satisfying.
Value - Value for money and best place for families and friends.
S. C.
There were ice within the chocolate gelato, which means it's not completely blend yet. And the taste of average is sweet. Affogato will be the only flavor I would suggest, there are honeycomb and toasted almond coated crispy sugar in milky base gelato, doesn't taste any coffee, but better than other flavor. Not as good as Messina.
E. d. R.
Enmore's best ice creamery. The scoops are ridiculously generous and the mental struggle in deciding which amazing flavour to get is real. Will definitely be going there again!
D. N.
Two scoops for $6, of the best icecream I've ever had. Trust me, you don't need more then that, you will feel sick enough after 2
u. n.
Great tasting gelato! The mandorla affogato and cherry flavours I tried we're delicious! Great that it has seating and staff we're friendly! Can't wait to try other flavours.
D. S.
Some of the best ice cream I've had. Awsome textures and variety of flavour. But get in early as there is always a line!
F. L.
I love ice cream and gelato but I often found them too sweet. Cow & The Moon’s gelatos are just right and they have interesting flavours too. If I have to be picky, the only downside is that the servings are perhaps slightly smaller than average – well, it’s the best gelato in the world afterall. ;)
R. J.
You don't have to visit Italy to try the best Gelato.
In addition to the fantastic gelato and sorbet, the staff is super friendly.
If you're also into coffee, I'd suggest an affogato with gianduia gelato.
A. D.
I'm Italian and a gelato lover. Cow & the Moon gelato is good, but too thick and rich for my taste. Apparently this is like they like it here in Australia. Plus, I agree with another user here saying that the customer service is quite bad. We were served by a blonde girl who was kind of rude and reluctant to give change to us too. The other guys looked nice and friendly though.
N. C.
Pretty popular place and the wait isn't that long, despite the line sometimes ending up down the street. It's probably 15min walk from Newtown station down Enmore road. The flavours seem pretty original, not your generic flavours. Reasonbly priced also.
J. P.
came here to see what the hype was about after the news story broke, to be welcomed with a 30 min queue. It was still worth it in the end as they offer two flavours for a one-scoop, which is something Messina does not offer. Generous portion too, which made me feel a little sick by the end of it, but so worth it.
A.
For my money, this is the best icecream in Sydney. There's always a wait but I'd expect nothing less for gelato this good.
R. C.
Oh! love the cow to the moon and back!! Love their affogato amazing and no wonder its award winning ice-cream. I will highly recommend it to all the ice-cream lovers out there to just try it once ...
