Had dinner here with 7 people last week. The renovations have made a big improvement to the look and feel of the dining room and eating areas. We were very impressed. Also the staff provided excellent service throughout the night. I feel the food has been taken up a notch. As there were 2 vegans at the dinner, we were pleased that there were a lot more vegan choices than before. The meals all round were generous and tasty. Would definitely recommend.

Really don’t know why this place has any bad reviews. I am a regular at this pub and the food has always been fantastic! Been here more than 15X and the experience has ALWAYS been great. Service is consistently awesome. Dishes are always perfectly cooked! Chicken Scnitty & Porchetta are always the superstars in their menu! Look the beers on tap as well! Loved this place so much that we celebrated two private bday parties here too! Both nights were catered superbly!

Delicious food but the service could have been more attentive. The waitress was painstakingly cleaning chairs rather than seeing if we would like a drink - the place was virtually empty. Might be simpler not to have table service

Elegant pub with a fantastic view over a pretty park. Staff were friendly. However not very attentive. We were seated for a meal in the dining room so table service only. We were only offered drinks once (on arrival) during our 4 hour stay. The dining room was very noisy. The meals were nice but a little underwhelming for the price.

The staff were so friendly and the food was delicious. We were impressed with the menu as it stated what was nut free and dairy free. Our son is allergic to nuts and dairy and the menu had so many options for him. He loved the DF garlic herb bread and kingfish. Would definitely recommend.

This is a really comfortable suburban pub, off the main road and in the heart of the suburb of Maylands. The decore is well presented and the ambience is tranquil. It seems like lots of families enjoy coming to dine and associate with friends. I love it. Wish we had one like it on my side of town.

Disappointed with the pork belly, very dry. Thai beef salad had no dressing or Thai flavour. We sent both meals back and they kindly offer us an alternative. We ordered safe and the subsequent chicken schnitzels were tasty as was the accompanying salad.

The restaurant is a little bit busier and louder than it was a couple of years ago. Meals were good and staff were friendly. I have been there twice when other people have sent back their food and staff are super apologetic and try to make up for the customers not being happy. Good place to eat.

Sitting outside accompanied by a lovely breeze, I was looking forward to a pleasant, albeit last minute meal. Service was welcoming and friendly, the menu a half-half mix of classics and more modern options. Personally, I wasn't particularly hungry, so opted for a craft brew and kingfish crudo starter. This was as fresh and enjoyable as you could hope for. Simple, yet balanced. My partner and her father chose the swordfish special and staple barramundi, respectively. Swordfish is hard to cook. I know, as I run a food business and it's not something I'd put on my menu, despite having mastered it. The slightest bit too long and you've robbed the fishermen of a prized catch. However, on this occasion, it was so overcooked even yesterday's reheated chicken breast is more moist. It almost appeared deep-fried, too, with a uniform crust around the entire fillet, though not deliciously caramelised as you'd get with a drier pan. The barramundi was also overcooked, though not the the same extreme. I would expect this was a once off. Perhaps a side-cook finishing up the last few tables and spending a little bit too much time watching TikToks instead of attending to the stove, but after reading the reviews, it seems there is a pattern of overcooking fish, steak, chicken, etc. I've given it three stars due to the service and atmosphere, and will give it one more chance to impress me. Failing that, you can expect something closer to a one star review from me.

The food came in quick and piping hot. The service was superb and the ambiance was truly something you had to see for yourself. There's a playground right across the street, and tables just outside the restaurant so parents/guardians can take turns tapping in to play and tapping out for a wee tipple. Would definitely recommend this place for families and large groups but also for a lovely romantic meal for two!

Except the potato mash which is a delicious and generous serve. I will be back to try some more options. Please include a soup on the Winter menu.

A party of 30 of us attended for our elderly mothers birthday luncheon. The food was very nice although portion sizes were not overly generous. We brought a birthday cake. When it came time to bring it out, we were informed that it would cost $3.50 per head, (or $105 for 30 people) for the staff to cut and serve it on a plate with a spoon or fork. For the cake to be brought out and ourselves to cut and serve $1.50 per head x 30 = $45. As mother only lived two streets away, we opted to just take the cake home and have coffees there. So the Hotel lost maybe $90+ in coffee orders? Not that great when we had spent all that money on food and drinks! As an aside, at our last family gathering at a great Italian sports & social club that serves Pizza & Pasta, on the Norwood Parade, we were given a complimentary bottle of tawny port at the end of the evening, with NO extra charge for cutting and serving a birthday cake. Sad that the Mayland's had to spoil what could have been a lovely lunch experience, with such a silly policy. If your planning to bring a cake be aware!

Lovely setting and styling. Pub was busy and we didnt mind waiting but 2 (5 in total) of our party's food orders were forgotten. Staff offered free drinks for the table but we asked for a dessert instead for the 2 of us whose meals were forgotten. My MEDIUM RARE scotch fillet steak ($38) was not only forgotten but when it finally arrived, it was cooked WELL DONE and tough. I didnt complain about steak as 3 of our party had long finished their meals and we thought we were getting 2 free desserts as compensation, we didnt want hold up our guests any longer. Unfortunately, we still had to pay for dessert! Wish I had've complained about the steak now! My lunch was $60 and will never go back! We were planning on coming back 2 days later with another group for dinner but we went to the Birkenhead instead and had a much better and less expensive experience, with much better service!

My pasta was yummy enough without being outstanding and others in group didn't complain about food they had but a few said the chips were very ordinary.That's when the fun started after asking for the bill.A few guys paid cash for their drinks and some didn't which led to a bit of confusion on the final paying process.I was getting frustrated and so was the cashier as I was last one to pay.We go out a lot and paying up front for everything seems to be the easiest method by far.

Quaint pub in the side streets of the leafy eastern suburbs, this hotel doesn't disappoint. Lanb shanks are slow cooked and delicious. The beef and chicken schnitzels are well portioned and equally tasty. Service is very good and professional ensuring your time is enjoyed. Admittedly its a little more pricey than other pubs in the area, but you know where your money is going.

Great menu, food cooked to perfection, attentive service - thank you Maylands! Came here on our first night in Adelaide after a reasonably long flight. It was a very hot day and we were tired and needed a relaxing meal in a peaceful environment. We were greeted by a lovely person who was so welcoming. We had no idea that on a Friday night, a reservation was probably needed. When she saw our exhausted, disappointed faces after asking if we had a reservation, she quickly told us she would find a solution. There are two dining areas - one a little more formal than the other. She lead us to one of the areas, explaining that it was cooler and it was where they were trying to seat everyone for their comfort. Due to hearing difficulties, this area wasn’t going to work for us and we were ready to thank her for her trouble and simply leave. Instead we were re-seated in the quieter, more formal area. The only people to be there. The effort made to meet our needs was above and beyond and a testament to this person’s care and the culture of the establishment.

The hotel is in a really nice old building and has lots of great seating areas, especially the library in winter in front of the open fire, nice and cosy. The finding room is large with plenty of seating and has space for groups of all sizes.

Keeps getting better. Choice of 3 seating areas, old dining room, bistro or fireplace area (sat near the fireplace this time). If you are on the younger side or want a more cozy spot the, bistro or fireplace area would be a good choice, go for the dining room if you have a lot of people. - Food service was super quick for a Friday. - Chicken Parmi is great (possibly better than before :) ) tasted awesome. - Salt and pepper calamari is really good now (10 times better than it used to be). Have tried this twice recently and perfect both times. - Side salads are nice and fresh. - Kids Chicken Schnitty meals are a very generous size (ours wanted more chips, so took some of ours the Parmi has enough chips to share a few). - The Friday live music was great, perfect volume to both listen and have a conversation. - Hats off the the chefs and management. Compared to 4 months ~ 1,2 years ago its like a different place. - If you haven't been lately or last went a year or more ago I would definitely give it another go.... - Didn't check the beer on tap situation this time, so can't comment on that but the wine list is great and plenty of local/ hills wines :)

Some nice comfort food beyond the usual pub fair (which it does have) but still needs work on some elements of the menu, beef cheeks were a great winter choice, the pork belly however needs improvement, far too greasy. Service was efficient but could be a little more personalable. I will give it another try to see what the usual pub fair is like.

Great place to visit, Meet up with friends for a drink/meal.You can sit inside or out.You could even have a business lunch/meeting there. Nice bar area plus a smoking area off the pokies room. I like to drop in and have play on their pokies. I wouldn't hesitate recommending it to anyone.

Decided to come for Saturday lunch. I found the staff a bit inattentive as we were left standing for awhile before a staff member actually came over to us even though two of them were virtually standing in front of us. After being seated we asked the waiter what the roast of the day was he came back and said beef, so my friend opted for that. Unfortunately soon as it came to the table we recognised it definitely was not beef but pork, silly mistake but really should not happen. Nevertheless the meal was lovely and the vegetables that accompanied it were perfectly cooked. I decided on the steak sandwich and could not fault it, it was delicious. So the food is great, thanks Chef, but please someone talk to the waiting staff and get them to treat us with more respect.

Wow , what a lovely find for us for an impromptu lunch on a Friday ! loved everything about the place, the decor , the warming fireplace , the service ! nothing too much trouble (thanks George ) friendly and timely service . The food was awesome, my friend had the salmon steak.(perfectly cooked) truffle creamy mash (to die for !) I had rosemary & lemon chicken with hand cut chips , delicious with generous serves ..Shaw and Smith sav paired perfectly with our meals. Reasonably priced for an upmarket meal , this is a class above "pub grub" and worth the money. Also in the entertainment book which was a bonus . Thanks for a relaxed and delicious lunch,. we will be back for sure soon. :)

I dined with a group of 10 people last Thursday night, I was a bit hesitant as I had read some of the reviews which were not that great but we had a lovely night. Every one of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals, we all ordered a variety, Surf and Turf, Atlantic Salmon, Veal Scallopini, Risotto, Porterhouse and Beef & Guiness Pie. We also ordered desserts which were also very nice. Our waiter Lachy was very friendly and helpful. It wasn't overly busy but our food was lovely. It is a lovely hotel with a great view overlooking the reserve. Would recommend eating here.
