Went here on NYE and it was brilliant, very welcoming and easy to talk to staff as you're ordering drinks and they're making them in front of you. Even just asked things like "Can you make something sweet with Elderflower" and they made it on the spot and it was absolutely delicious. Atmosphere is also fantastic.

Great cocktail lounge and bar with a huge range of expertly made options. Table service is excellent with well trained, unobtrusive and knowledgeable staff. Cocktails, whiskeys, wines, and beers on offer. Some options are on the pricier side as could be expected for a more upmarket place. Definitely worth a look.

Very classy bar in the laneway in the centre of Brisbane. Huge range of spirits, amazing cocktails. I spent a few hours with close friends here on my birthday. The ambiance was SO nice, staff super friendly and accommodating. I was sorry we had to leave for our dinner reservations. Will definitely visit again. Highly recommend this bar. It a 'must visit' on a night out in Brisbane. 5 stars.

Easily my favourite bar in Brisbane. Very elegant and classy, delicious drinks, high quality cocktails, amazing all rounded service and knowledgeable bartenders. Usually long queues on Fridays and Saturdays, so go on weeknights if you want the best seats at the bar :)

I discovered my new favourite bar.!! Impressed right from the get go. Friendly greeting from manager Anthony at the door and was shown to my seat by the lovely hostess.. Got the registration details out of the way and took in the surrounds.. Wow! This is one quality fitout! Swanky!, think old world private club.. Single malt whisky, .. expensive leather, chesterfields and magnificent wood are everywhere! The leather bar stools so comfortable can sit in them all night. A library room at the back which reminds me of the ambience of the Bamboo Bar at the Oriental Hotel Bangkok.. Bar staff are excellent, with great product knowledge and attention to detail,. well presented in crisp uniforms friendly, efficient and courteous. All round a five star experience! A classy joint! A must try! Very highly recommended!

While Death & Taxes does amazing cocktails and has excellent service, the original allure of this bar was it's mystery: a lone door set in a dark dray wall in the middle of an alleyway. Now there is an obvious queue and outdoor seating, unfortunately making it just like any other bar going experience, albeit a high quality one.

When sitting down for a drink, it is easy to see why Death and Taxes has won the award for the Best Whiksy Bar of the Year, the vibe/atmosphere, the compassionate staff, the amazing bartenders, and of course the Whiskey cocktails were great. I did not get the woman's name who greeted me on Tuesday, but she was very sweet and welcoming, and Martin was an amazing bartender, thank you :)

Best bar I've ever been to. Great atmosphere, amazing staff and the best drinks. The guy at the front door was a legend. I thought he's the owner as he fit so well in this place and made sure everyone is been taking great care of - turns out he's just helping out on busy weekends. Loved how welcoming and enthusiastic he was. The bartenders absolutely know their craft and take time to help you choose the right drink. I loved how they checked in with us several times and even gave us some interesting historic facts about some of the liquor. The venue it self is absolutely stunning and catapults you back into the early 1900s. If you want to feel like a Peaky Blinder for one night- Death and Taxes is the place. We will be back for sure!

Fantastic service. Ordered a drink and explained I wanted to make it for a cocktail party and the bartender printed out a great recipe for us to use. We also were given a very interesting tasting lesson in sherry with compliments and enjoyed our time at the bar very much. A hidden gem tucked in burnett lane in the city. The atmosphere is nice as when it is not as crowded. You can still have an intimate conversation while sipping a very well made cocktails. Their cocktails are very unique as well, don't be fooled by how it looks, cause it can be really strong. Overall a gokd experience and will definitely coming back...

Amazing atmosphere and decor, best in town. The prints on the walls are amazing. But it's far too expensive for what you get. Drinks are not only really small it takes a remarkably long time for them to arrive. Not applicable to everyone, but they actually do not take bookings so once we showed up with a party of about 6-8 people and had to wait 20 min for appropriate seating.

Six months old and certainly non-descript, bar the wall size lettering of its name and a reaper (which you could mistake as simply graffiti art) big wooden doors, a bouncer and a security scanner, you’d walk past without knowing it’s there. It’s like a speakeasy. The staff were attentive and friendly. Instant was the rapport with them and with a selection of 30 cocktails, it’s easier to let them make recommendations based on whatever. Dean listened to how my evening was for his recommendation but I usually like to challenge cocktailers for their experimental creations. Their stone soup or soup stone (with goat’s milk and prepared over 16hrs) certainly was an experiment and a delicious one too. People were friendly to chat with (Brisbane people usually are friendly) and I had a nice night.

Hands down, best cocktail bar in Brisbane. Their menu is amazing, both in content and presentation. The ambience and atmosphere they have created in the venue is charming, classy, but also accessible. The staff were all incredible helpful, polite, friendly and great at the jobs. 10/10 will be going back. Fully intend in running through their entire cocktail menu. If you haven't been there, it's a must visit. If you have, why are you not back there already?

Every inch of the menu has been meticulously designed imparting an experience like no other in Brisbane that I have had. It is not your run of the mill mimosa or standard bar spirit.... be prepared to sit back and enjoy the atmosphere and atomic experience created by the bar staff. Every aspect has been thought out including the glasses to match the cocktails... an asset to Brisbane! Go and experience it yourself. Recommendation the Blood brother and Black Robin Amazing!

I really enjoyed this place. The cocktail menu was extensive and interesting. The booth seating was comfortable and it was an enjoyable atmosphere in which to catch up with friends. Service was a little slow - we waited almost half an hour for our second round of drinks and they had to keep taking our menu away at various times because there weren't enough to go around. It was a bit weird and intrusive.

The team is knowledgeable without letting that vast understanding distance them from the customer interaction, and their attention to detail is evident in their work. Top bar with an excellent list of cocktails. Particularly busy on Friday nights so if you have a group of 5 or so people, try to get into the backrooms for a booth before 5pm, otherwise you might get stuck with standing room only. Very deep spirits range so its well worth a visit

It's fairly new and they've really put in a heap of effort to really kick it off. Service and cocktails are top notch. Decor is great too. There's even hidden sound dampening on the roof to minimise the echo of other tables' noise.

Having never been to this bar, I booked myself and 5 friends into their New Years Eve shin-dig. Was not disappointed at all. The bar has beautiful decor, amazing attentive staff and great cocktails. As its a little pricey-er, it attracts an older, more mature crowd, which is to say it was devoid of loud under 30s taking 500 selfies. A huge cudos to our amazing waitress who remembered our drink orders perfectly everytime and kept us well hydrated with water over the course of the evening. My husband and I will definitely be back.

The bar itself is nice inside and has a good atmosphere. I have been here twice and both visits were very different. The first time i was in a group of 4, the service was great and the cocktails were good (although pricey). My second visit i was part of a larger group for a 30th birthday and the service was poor, it was extremely slow and staff were rude. Not really what you want when you are paying top end prices for drinks. The barman also charged one of our group $30 for an old fashioned!!! We asked the waitress if that was correct and advised us that it should have been $20 but he was never offered any money back so we decided to leave. Maybe a problem here with some staff but i wouldn't recommend here if you are a large group or have a tight budget.

Favourite bar in the city. They've paid attention to the acoustics with good sound dampening on ceilings and walls so you can sit at a table and chat easily without background noise busting your balls and muffling out your sweet chat and punchlines. Great cocktails and whiskey

This place is very special. The decor, the ambience, and the taste adventures (always delicious, some divine) are already more than enough to make this place special, but the real treasure here is their staff. I would sit under fluoro strip lights on uncomfortable metal chairs if I could be looked after as well as we were last night. They were friendly, knowledgeable, and skilled, and showed an all too rare quality of being so aware of their environment that as a team they pre-empted needs rather than just responding. Individually and as a team these folk are a real model of what hospitality service, or any customer service should be.
