Went here before dinner. Love the wine list and they stocked quite a lot of unique wines. Staff are very professional and knowledgeable. They know every bottle so well. Definitely one of the highlight of my trip here.

I thoroughly enjoyed this experience, the restaurant is very cool, a little eclectic and very Canberra, which we love. The food was delicious, lots of great starters to accompany your main, the menu was diverse yet small which keeps the experience interesting but not overwhelming. The drinks menu was great, a mix of local and imported options allows your taste buds to do the travelling you have no doubt been starved of during COVID! I recommend ordering a bottle over individual glasses as like most restaurants this keeps the dinner a little less expensive. If you’re visiting/living in Canberra and hence are reading this review to decide if you want to go or not, I definitely think you should! Just make sure you book in advance!

A lovely experience which was well worth the wait on a crowded Saturday night. The food was one of the best I've tasted in Canberra, with many ingredients sourced carefully and prepared very well. The dishes are simple, with not too may ingredients, very elegant. The waitstaff were pleasant and explained the dishes succinctly. Although the serving sizes are small, it was very satiating. The bar itself is very cosy and chill. Just a tip - book ahead because those cushy seats are way better than the bar stools we were seated on. Food breakdown: * Stracciatella with a mix of raisins and walnuts. Served on a side plate with a milk bun from some fancy bakery. The idea was that you gave the cheese strands, the toppings, the balsamic glaze and oil a bit of a stir, then used a bit of the torn up milk bun to scoop up the mix. It's a very unique dish. Some may say the golden raisins and milkiness reminds them of a breakfast dish, I thought it reminiscent of caprese salad without the tomatoes. Well whatever it was, it was inventive and it worked and I really loved it. * Lamb ribs. These were the most tender lamb ribs I've ever tasted. They were perfectly cooked with just a light dusting of salt, pepper and cumin and served with a mustard mayo. The waitress explained they are special lamb ribs supplied for restaurants, so not readily available to the public. This dish was so yum we ordered it a second time. * Duck breast with a persimmon slice. These were slices of tender duck breast, paired with pumpkin puree which was laced with coffee! I did not pick up on the secret ingredient, I thought it might again have a bit of cumin through it which gave it a distinctly brown colour. * Sticky date pudding with butterscotch and mascarpone. This was a very delicious dessert and a great way to end the meal. Just wow! Edit: Food pics from my second visit there.

A gorgeous hidden upstairs bar in the middle of Canberra. Cocktails were divine, the food was full of flavour, and so freshly cooked. We had some unusual dishes here, such as the fried mash potato balls with miso sauce, and the wagyu beef tongue. Service was grand!

One of the cosiest and tastiest restaurant bars in Canberra! Highlights was the polenta chips, burratta with zucchini and carbonara. Their wine list was also extensive and great cocktail options. Service was friendly too. As it's a local favourite, it can get very busy so to be sure to boom ahead!

Arrived around 930 and the place was ambient which set a nice mood. Good for chats or a romantic date, chill music and the bartenders and staff were friendly. Got seated at the bar, refer to menu. Ordered the tuna tartare, lamb shoulder, and ox tongue (least favourite).

Great vibes, cocktails and food. Lovely wines and extensive drinks list. We had the set menu during covid. Well looked after by staff, accommodating to vegetarian, vegan options and allergies. The pumpkin with honey pecans was delicious and standout. I had vegan, my dinner date had the normal menu and said all the meats were actually a let down. Only criticism is the mains were a lot of salad and without a 'main dish' for vegans, instead sides like charred broccoli and massive raddicio salad. Would recommend.

Our first visit to bar Rockford unfortunately did not live up to expectations and great reviews we had heard of in the past. The waiter greeting us was very rude but luckily she was swapped out with somewhere more attentive and friendly. It’s definitely a nice place to go to for a drink for a date or pre dinner drinks however I wouldn’t recommend it for dinner. The food is very small and overpriced. For what was a dinner booking for us was an expensive venture and we left still feeling hungry after paying an expensive bill. I’m not sure if I would return

Lovely dinner while we were on holiday. 2 adults and a teen. Cosy, dimly lit bar feel with unobtrusive music and friendly staff. We had the $70 set menu - 2 standard and 1 vegetarian. 3 bite-sized snacks, 4 shared dishes and dessert. Having the mix of standard and vegetarian menus was great as we got to try even more dishes. Generous servings! Standouts were the silky potato snack, melt-in-the-mouth bonito, charred beef and polenta mushrooms. Our teen loved the pumpkin brulee dessert best! Some very interesting and daring wines and beers on the menu as well as your staples. Be sure to check out the whimsical toilet roll holders! 😂

It's accessible through just a door in the wall - if you've already had a few drinks before you try to find it, you'll probably miss it! Up the stairs, however, is a stylish and upmarket bar that serves restaurant-quality food, tapas-style, in small portions. We tried eight different dishes and they were all delicious; every plate had flair and was perfectly cooked. Wine list is largely international - a rarity in Australia, with our surplus of good local wines - but this made for some very interesting, and delicious, wines I would probably not have otherwise tried. Service was excellent - not too intrusive nor too absent. Bar Rochford won a "Bar of the Year" award recently, and we'd certainly agree this is a great experience!

This is the place to eat and drink in Canberra if you appreciate quality service, wine and food in a buzzy and yet low key atmosphere. The burrata, zucchini and roasted hazelnut salad was delicious with a phenomenally good biodynamic, orange wine. They make the best of a smaller space with an industrial yet intimate fit-out. We loved this bar restaurant and will be back!

Great little wine bar with some unusual but delicious cocktail selections. Staff were lovely and the atmosphere of the bar is unique with the records playing, the singular large window and the cosy feel produced by the records, books and wine bottles that line the shelves. Most things are a little bit on the prciey side; but, certainly nothing ridiculous. Certainly somewhere I'll be returning as all the food looked fantastic as well.

This is the best bar that Canberra has ever had. Sophisticated yet unpretentious, everything works together so well. Busy (book), funky (DJ tunes), cosy (open fire place) bar and restauran. Food is superb, service is super friendly and knowledgeable, and pricing is reasonabl . They've made great use of the space and the beautiful arch windows of the Melbourne building. It's tight but cosy. It can be loud, definitely not a romantic place, it has a slightly noisy and very active atmosphere. Well worth it, I'll be back to try more of the food menu and some of the legendary cocktails.

I've been in ACT for one week now and Bar Rochford is by far the best, most welcoming establishment I have been to in years. Nick and his crew have their service down to an art. The prices are no different than any other ACT establishment that I've been to, but the attention to detail and service are a 'bar above' (pun intended) the rest. Bar Rochford reminds me of Little Branch in NYC. Thanks for making me feel at home, when home is over 9000 miles away!
