S. B.This place is a well priced, laid back hotel with a cool 60’s feel with pool in the middle. But if you’re a sensitive sleeper, make sure you have ear plugs. There always seems to be some sort of noise outside. And that’s after the bar closes at 2am (I think)

L. G.Only had coffee, however there must of been some confusion. Ordered a long black in a mug that came out in a cup and was bitter and muddy looking. A short macchiato that was not the best either. The Gentleman before me ordered a basic coffee with milk to which the Lady repeated and that was with soy wasn't it to which he rolled his eyes and said no. They need decent Barista's, however the food that came out to our friends were big serves and really tasty.

L. S.The hotel is a little dated, the rooms inside the building are especially dated and old. In saying that we did enjoy our stay here. The room had a full size fridge which was great for a long stay. Bathroom extremely old but it did the job. Air con was great and kept the room cold. There was no windows though in our room. The communal kitchen was a huge benefit for our long stay. Lots of stove tops and condiments to use. The pool was nice but lots of chlorine but to be expected. Most of all the staff were great and accommodating. And the bar and restaurant was fantastic. Food was top notch every time. Would definitely stay here again because for the price it was definitely worth it!

A busy hotel/pub/restaurant very lively atmosphere, cool live music, lots of deals at the bar and restaurant. The accommodation is excellent value for money, good linen, clean, simple rooms with a comfy bed and a good size fridge.
Being this close to the city centre and what you pay, can't be beat. The lady at hotel reception was very welcoming and professional.

S. C.Don't stay here if you want to sleep before 11pm even on week nights. For the price it was ok, great location, friendly staff but the bathroom was the kind you need to wear thongs into and the bed was two singles pushed together. I've stayed in nicer hostels for less.

M. K.People were raving on about the Cavenagh hotel for Tuesday night taco & Thursday steak night. I was quite surprised how good Tuesday night taco were. Tacos were filling and delicious. well done guys.
However, Thursday night steak was terrible, horrible fat piece of meat that appear shrunk during cooking. More than 50% were thick fat with low grade meat. Was I disappointed?? I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Shame. Overall, bar service are exceptional, ambience at the facility were great.

I have had next to everything on the menu from breakfast, lunch and dinner and I have loved every bite! Steak nights are a must and make sure you book in advance.
Entertainment here is always rocking with local soloist, duos or groups performing classics and contemporary music.

The food was good and reasonably priced, only a short walk to the waterfront, and always filled with locals and visitors alike. B. N.Thursday night #steak 17$ delicious, u would be crazy to miss it. Staff are friendly & efficient, service is fast, so make a reservation cuz the place gets busy easily. The Tmex steak is tender juicy, with a slight taste of German sausage. It comes with fries and salad. There is a pool side area, but during the wet season better to eat indoors. Close to the bus depot, very central.... worth giving up being a vegan just for the steak....

D. S. J.Always like this place for lunch. A surprising feature on the menu was the vegetarian tacos.vwry colourful and tasty. Burgers are always fresh as well. Staff at the kitchen are friendly and approachable and bar staff are nice too. Just a tip of your sitting outside to eat, there is a smoking area with no gap between it and the outdoor eating zone. It's a bit gross, but you can always sit inside of you wish to stay away from all the smoking.

F.Overall it was a nice and comfortable room. Couldn't here the loud music downstairs. The bathroom needs updating a longer shower curtain for starters way too short. The floor was totally wet everywhere. An extractor fan/ventilated fan would be good too. Comfy beds.

N. M.I was planning to visit Darwin for couple of days but found really bad reviews of the hostels in CBD.I picked the CAV over the rest of hostels and it was the best choice made.
This place is spotless,extremely clean,free toiletries in the bathrooms and most importantly polite and helpful staff.
They even let me stay couple of hours in early morning prior to my check in for my day tour.❤️❤️
I highly recommend this place.

Pool, bar and resturant of a $200 a night hotel!
King room (got for $75 a night!) came with a big bed, good sized fridge and wardrobe, a balcony and a bathroom.
The servers at the restaurant were friendly, food was great, large but good quality meals.
Biggest perk for me was the cleaners, cleaned the room everyday, replaced towls, but didn't move personal belongings which was great. Really friendly as well, one even leant me a lighter, which were I come from is not common. I really wish I could of given a bigger tip but I only had $5 on me at the time.
All round great hotel, if your on a budget, this is an amazing hotel and defiantly goes above and beyond for its price.

Lovely clean swimming pool, nice bar,entertainment, lunch was nice but evening menu very dissapointing not many options so didn't have dinner there. Our room was clean, comfy bed, tea and coffee,kettle,iron and ironing board,huge wardrobe, fantastic air-con,could have done with a few more power outlets, exhaust fan in bathroom didn't work and when showering the bathroom flooded in room 122. Also has a smoking area and a huge communal kitchen with tables and chairs, felt safe at the Cav. I would definitely stay here again.

D. C.Overall it was a great dinner getaway,the dinner menu had different products which was unique in terms of the flavour, customer service was all round good and it was easy to collect drinks. Considering the nature of the pub, you have to order at the front counter, pay for you're meal, I recommend ordering as soon as you arrive! As if you are arriving in peak times the line can be so long! (Only 1 person on the Register). If you're ordering entrees, consider about a 20 min wait after that. The meals were nice and hot! Steak was nice however ask for it to give it to you straight away from the hotplate and serve... usually there is a waiting period, bit I get annoyed at that as it gets cold(we sat in aircon) . Drinks are also resonable (as in cheap), customer service was excellent along with friendly nature of the staff, 4 stars in my view. Try it yourself and see!

M. E. H.Atmosphere is buzzing. Staff are bubbly. Clientele are laughing. They have great meals and a swimming pool right in the middle. Rooms are a not new but have been nicely refurbished. Great for an afternoon drink with mates.
A.It was a nice place, good air conditioning. The food was probably like 6/10 so that's the only downside. In saying that I still did eat my whole meal, and I would go back again.

A. S.Nice entrees and great atmosphere. However, after ordering blue rare sirloin steaks, out came medium steaks. The waitress was super friendly and happily and apologetically took our plates back, only to return quickly with the chefs information that our steaks were in fact rare. This is the most galling aspect; either the chef did not want to admit his own mistake, or the restaurant is hiring a chef who is incapable of discerning between a rare and medium cooked steak.
Again, the wait staff was really nice and asked if we would like new steaks cooked blue. The new steaks arrived blue rare, and tasted fantastic. The included chips were cooked to perfection, and the steak sauces were wonderful.
All in all, a good dining experince hurt by an unprofessional/inexperienced chef.
L. B.Went for cheeky couple of midday beers. Friendly staff and a good atmosphere. Choices of seating indoors lounge/restaurant or outdoors pub/smokers area deck. Beers were fairly priced. 5 stars for extra clean, cold schooners. You could see the rings of the beer head on the glass after each mouthful.
J. C.Basic room. The bathroom was dirty. I have travelled extensively and this was the first time I had to buy bleach so as I can have a shower.
The hot water was non existent ( apparently our room was one of the last to receive warm water). When my husband reported this, we did get an up grade to a huge room but still had to bleach the shower.
It really does need a face lift

M. M.Very friendly staff and pretty good rooms. The was a little bit of surface mold starting on the roof in the bathroom. You get 3 gig free WiFi on check-in but have to pay after that. Kitchen facilities available however it didn't look terribly clean when I looked at it. Limited parking spaces available for free. All in all, not bad for $65ish per night.

L. J.No lifts, so you have yo carry your luggages up the first floor. We had a room facing the main road and liquor shop/warehouse was loading and unloading goods which was really noisy. We checked in at 3.30am (our flights arrive at 2am!!) and was told that checkout time is 10am!! Ridiculous!!

G. W."The Cav" was our local for the 5 years we lived in downtown Darwin. Steaks are the best in town and the beer is always cold. Shelly makes a great latte from the early hours and if you are into breakfast the poolside deck is a great place to have the eggs beni...also the best in Darwin.

The outdoor area is great with lots of room but as with anywhere in Darwin the humidity makes for an uncomfortable time during the wet season which forces people indoors to cool down. Grab the famous Cavenagh steak for dinner and a cold beer for a good start to the evening.

J. v. B.A renovation in Feb 2016 has made this hotel a decent affordable option for travelers in the Darwin cbd. Rooms are reasonably sized but many of them don't have windows, please ask ahead. Wifi is free but intermittent with a decent limit of 3gb. The redeeming feature is the lovely large pool and fantastic restaurant which has good specials during the week. Bathrooms in the rooms are below average and flood easily. Surprisingly there was a full sized fridge with freezer in the room!

G. E.The Cav seems to be a good place to stay when one comes up to Darwin. It has everything you need and is super central without burning a hole in your wallet. And I did manage an hour or two sleep which is a bonus.

T.While working in Darwin I stayed at the Cav and found it to be a great location to all the city's amenities the staff at the Cav are fabulous the cleaning crew are very helpful and friendly the food is outstanding. Take note it isn't a back packers anymore. The management at the Cav are just fantastic also enjoy your time at the Cav and in the NT. Cheers
