A. M.Apon reading some mixed reviews I really didn’t know what to expect, well all I can say is GO and check it out, because our food and drinks were spectacular! The Parma was amazing!!! Honestly one of the best in Melbourne for sure. Staff are very well equipped even on busy days. Thanks for making our night special

C. O.We’re here on holidays and stumbled across this great pub, which lucky for us was at the bottom of the street we’re staying in.
We booked a couple of table to accompany the 20 or so people in our family and we needed wheelchair and pram space.
Heather the manager that showed us around the venue was so accommodating and helpful and super friendly.
We all arrived at the same time and the family were very happy with the choice of venue.
Ordering the food from the QR code menu system was simple and the food came out super quick.
The food itself was great and the Wagyu Beef Tartare was insanely good and I’d say the best I have eaten! The wine list was small but with great wines available.
Everyone enjoyed their meals and the time we spent here.
I’d like to say a HUGE thank you to Heather, Josh, Chris and all the super friendly and attentive staff, as well as the Chef Team for serving up delicious meals.
We’ll certainly be back on out next trip to Melbourne.

Awesome that they embrace Melbourne culture with specialties like the igloo gardens in winter and the ‘happiest hour’ this January.
We went on a hot day during the happiest hour and they were absolutely getting run off their feet, but all staff were professional and friendly despite how busy they were. Great work!

Squid Ink Aioli, Lemon & Dill 🦑 & Citrus Cured Salmon with
Blackberry Purée, Blackberries & Herb Oil 🍣 as Entrees, to go with our Campari Spritz, Long Island Iced Tea (which is a must have) & Coldstream Hills Sauvignon Blanc! 🥂Both were absolutely delicious! 🤤
Our main course was Seared King Ora Salmon with Pickled Fennel, Orange, Dill & Lemon (amazing!) 🐟, Roast Chicken Root Salad with Cashew Puree, Beetroot, Pumpkin, Broccolini, Quinoa (one of the best Quinoa salads I’ve ever had, period!) 🥗 & Porterhouse steak with Chips & Salad on the side (medium rare)🥩!
Perfect venue, great great food- exceeded all expectations! Will definitely be back for more. ♥️♥️♥️

Was here for a friend's birthday and we had the set menu which included a drink, a variety of cheese and dips, veggies and grapes, chicken wings and chocolate fondue! Very cosy and intimate setting. Approx. $49 per person. GREAT value for the quality of food and drinks served.

J. L.The high rating is for the innovative and fun concept of the Winter Igloo. Five transparent tents with white frames and fairy lights transformed the lawn into a fun and slightly magical place to spend an evening. Comfortable seats and blankets in each weather proof igloo created a cosy atmosphere. Attentive service ensured we always had food and drinks.
The Chef's Tasting Plate was generous and came with a beverage, selection of cold cuts and antipasto plus a chocolate fondue that you need a spoon (or a ladle?) for. The Goat Curry was generous and tasty but a little tough.
It was a great way to enjoy 3.5 hours at the pub. Definitely recommend early bookings to avoid disappointment.

Chicken Parmagiana is one of the best in town. Great beers on tap.
P. S.Booking over the phone was very easy, we made a simple request because of an elderly person and it was perfectly catered for. The staff were very attentive without being over the top. Food was good without being great, but reasonable for the prices. Overall very happy to return.
Update 8 December 2021
I have dined at the Auburn several times in the past and always had very good experiences, both with the venue and service itself as well as the food served. Everyone is entitled to a bad night, last Monday night was their turn. The entrée’s never turned up, one of the mains was not cooked properly and one of the desserts was not what was ordered. It was a disaster! However ………….
The staff could not have been more apologetic, the manager (we assume) also offered apologies, and the desserts and two rounds of drinks were on the house as an offered (not asked nor demanded) compensation.
As in all my previous experiences with The Auburn, everything else was great. Everyone is entitled to one bad night, they had theirs. The way they handled it will not stop me from going again, in fact would encourage me to go again.
T.Food was beautiful and the venue itself is superb. The service was quite slow and we did have to ask for wine and also ask the girls to take our order. That said they were polite and very attentive after this.

We've been going to the Trivia Nights until covid19 struck.
Hopefully things can get better in the kitchen too.

Your typical pub food with an extraordinary wine list, a high end Cellar.
Food is average for what they are charging, not value for money, however we are impressed with their wines.

R. W.Came here for the temporary garden igloo experience which was set up outside. Staff were really friendly and accommodating. The menu seemed really good and the drinks range was comprehensive. Would have been 5 stars, although when the food arrived some really basic dishes like chips and aioli and the chicken wings were a bit cold and underwhelming.

The team were awesome (we didnt organise it until the week before), the 3 course deluxe set menu was extremely good value, Jess the waitress for the evening was brilliant and fantastic support in helping the event run smoothly from Tara and the functions team.
Everyone enjoyed themselves and were highly complimentary on the service, food and drink. I would highly recommend you check them out for your next private function.

Wait staff somewhat unprofessional - they told us the kitchen was to blame for a forgotten order, rather than double checking that everyone had gotten their meal and noticing the error themselves.
They split bill, which is nice, but don't have a good tech solution for it - we each had to add up our own damages.
Food took over an hour to come out....

It was great for many reasons but was even better because of the service we received from the manager that accommodated for the large amount of guests that I had come throughout the day. We celebrated our staff dinner in the dining room of the Auburn Hotel. As always, the meals were superb and the cocktails and fine wine were very much enjoyed by all. We all highly recommend The Auburn and we always come back.
J. G.First time back after lockdown. Unfortunately the team seemed overwhelmed on a busy Wednesday night. Parma and chips were only warm-ish. Caesar was really disappointing. Chicken had weird texture and was bone dry. Way too much dressing.
Hope it gets better but will give a miss for now.
J.Solid historic local pub with above average food and interior. The menu is wide ranging with some pub food classics as well as a few more creative dishes, it's also available both in the dining room and at the bar. Its interior is lovely, showing the age of the pub without looking worn out.

The team @ Auburn Hotel offered a roast pork luncheon available through Uber Eats. My beautiful daughter collected and delivered a very special meal.
Meat was very tender and tasty. Roast vegetables were cooked exactly as I love them with broccolini, beans and cauliflower in sauce and a mix of roasted vegetables. The meal was hot on delivery as pick ups were timed well.

A Tuesday night in Melbourne delivers many a steak night across our abundance of fine establishments in Melbourne. Few offer difference, why should they, the night is a tried and tested favourite but the twist by the Auburn Hotel to offer scalloped potatoes instead of chips just rocketed them up my steak night order. This inner east staple pub has always delivered. Whether it used to be the wicked sunday sessions in my early twenties, the nice pub my folks would love, a good date spot for a first date, Auburn Hotel has had it all. Unfortunately the staff in the hotel can consistently appear as aloof or withdrawn. Dazzle you with a smile when bringing food, handing back your change etc, but there’s nothing else in the interaction.
Despite this I can’t wait to see what else Auburn Hotel has planned for my future!

L. Y.I had my 30th last weekend at the Auburn and hired out "The Wine Room" area. From my first enquiry to the end of the night, I found the team very easy to deal with. The area itself was great - we had access to a private area of the bar, with nibbles coming out through the night. The food was great quality, delicious and perfect for what I wanted. Thank you!

I find that the menu is a lot more diverse and of a higher quality than what most pubs offer and while some of the prices are a bit more expensive than your average pub, the price is reflected the quality of the food. Have to admit that sometimes the service can be a little slow but the wait staff have always been helpful and pleasant and I more often than not come away feeling satisfied and happy with the dishes I have chosen. I suggested the Geebung to my employees for Christmas dinner this year and to my knowledge they are very pleased with what is being offered and price.

K.Grand heritage building with possible the best bar in Melbourne (literally the bar, as in where you sit and place your drinks, which is made of rich grooved dark wood greased with generations of patrons' elbows crooked comfortably). The main bar is focused mainly on tap beers, with almost a dozen on offer ranging from Guinness to Asahi, and a place to watch sports, always easily visible on one of the many televisions it projection screen. The current owners have put a lot of work into making this large venue feel varied, with other rooms dedicated to wine, dining, or large groups outside, and each section of the hotel has a district and well crafted feel to it.

They actually didn't mind having a chat to customers, which would have been discouraged in other places, but improves the atmosphere when the bar tender is nicer. A few of the people were annoying, but the place can't really control who comes in and who doesn't.

Another star is lost for one unnecessary addition in which I've described below.
I am also dissapointed to see a Western Bulldogs 2016 premiership poster up on the wall. This contravenes what this pub is about. It's a pub in Hawthorn, it needs to remain consistent with a Hawthorn Hawks theme. There are 13 Hawthorn premiership posters and one solitary Western Bulldog picture. Not consistent. Not right.
That picture belongs in a pub in the west, not amongst 13 Hawthorn premiership posters ranging from 1961-2015. It's out of place and just not to be accepted. I don't even barrack for Hawthorn, but upon noticing this poster I felt disturbed by the Western Bulldog infiltration within the territory of this Eastern institution.
Tradition needs to be acknowledged on this occasion, and that poster needs to go. Send it to a pub in the west where it belongs, not amongst the brown and gold in the east.

W.On Sunday nights, "The Geebung" turns into a packed venue full of people getting outrageously drunk and dancing the night away to the live band or the DJ playing a mix of songs from modern house to 80s rock. The line out the front often stretches around the corner during summer. When it closes at 11, the security staff herd everyone across the road and away from their corner so that "you're not our problem anymore".
