Comments of Berlin Bar

Will you go for capitalism or communism? The staff were super sweet and the decor was amazing. The lights were super interesting and the menu was well designed visually to suit the German theme. Drinks were cold, complex and served fast. Nice chill bar with a dodgy looking entrance adding to the vibe. Rock n roll was played with Top Gun on the screen which was pretty sick. This is my second time going and I will be going again.

Loved Berlin!!
I had seen people talking about this bar on both Instagram and TikTok and I’ve been wanting to check it out for a while.
A group of us went there last night.
We had to wait for a bit and the super nice maître d’ grabbed one of our numbers and took us downstairs to a bar on the ground floor. He handed us over vouchers for a free shot each (shots were $11 each!!) and, literally, as we finished our shots, we got his text to head back upstairs.
The bar is split into two — East and West Germany. They’ve done a great job. You have the glamour of the West clashing with the communist East. We were seated in the East and three of my friends were sitting on a bunk bed. There’s too much going on to be able to describe it — you simply need to go and check it out for yourself.
Their cocktails are great and pack a punch. Everything we tried tasted absolutely amazing. The Martini was out of this world.
Definitely a must-visit place! We are absolutely going back to try some more of the cocktails!
Oh, and the service is fantastic — the staff are great!!
T. J.
Very cool hidden bar at the top floor. Divided into capitalism and communism side. Great cocktails and atmosphere. Def prefer the more clean capitalism side. Service was fantastic as well.
R. P.
OMG this place!!!! My wife and I are huge cocktail aficionados and this place is fun and moody with such a great vibe. Our host was fantastic and the cocktail menu was, well, wow. Such a well themed bar, so much fun, you won't want to leave.
S. H.
Loved all the cocktails I tried there...great ambience and friendly staff..try it and you'll love it

Finding a hiding spot!
I found this place searching for bars without booking needed. I almost past throw it because has no signs. Going up stairs is already a big surprise. I looooove it! Beautiful place, friendly staff, small room though, mainly with the sits restrictions at this time.
We try four different cocktails, all of them full of flavour and very different. Recommend the Vladimir Putting.
Recommend this great experience.
T. H.
What a sneaky and amazing find. East and West Berlin seperated into their own wings and vibes. Service was superb with the help we got choosing our cocktails, even their gins were matched with tonics and garnishes. Has been the absolute best place we have chosen for cocktails with friends before dinner, can't wait to come back and see what it's like late at night.
D. B.
One of the most clever, well-thought bars you’ll ever find! Ich liebe dich.
M. M.
Very elegant yet casual bar, love the theme and all the decor was amazing! Cocktails were so sophisticated and delicious. Table service from Aerton was brilliant- he set us up with the best cocktails to suit our taste and was just all round lovely!!! Definitely will be back
S. P.
Love the theme of the bar. Great cocktails. Friendly staff.
F. S.
Very nice experience and amazing cocktails. Would definitely recommend. There are not a lot of food options but would definitely go for drinks.
R. H.
Ahhhmazing East vs West- choose your side.
I sat West due to the pretty chick decorations, the East was dark and a dive. So well done, loved the atomsphere. Yummy cocktails, a hidden gem to be seen
M. P.
Loved the cocktails here.
The way the cocktail list is presented was pretty innovative. The cocktails themselves are unlike those I’ve had at any other bars.
The vibe and decor was great too.
Overall amazing experience, I’m sure I’ll be back here again very soon.

Busy bar ... it's a great reminder of politics, in a "fun" way ...
It can be controversial to turned a page of world's history into a "layback" reminder of that horrendous period, the #coldwar. I'm sure most people remembered watching live telecast of the Berlin wall tumbling down.
Dark cobblestone laneway, warehouse style building, flights of stairs, locked door ... then you ring the bell and the fun begins ...
The jovial remnant continues inside ...
Plenty of drinks and fun cocktail name's, liking the flight of whiskies so far ... good to be sitting in the communist side while drinking our wines and whiskies ... that would be unthinkable in East Berlin ... well done guys.
E. A.
Aerton was amazing, was sooo welcoming & very knowledgeable! Made us feel totally comfortable when I told him I had no idea what he was talking about, always checked in with us & was just an all round great guy. The atmosphere is amazing & drinks were pretty cool! Loved the concept
A. B.
Interesting themed bar which divides their rooms between eastern and western Berlin. They put a lot of effort in the communist side with decoration etc, making the capitalist side a bit boring if you decide to visit both of them.
The menu is the same at both ends, so don’t bother changing sides once you settle.
N. S.
Five stars except for the music selection. The cheese platter and the cocktails we had was nothing but exceptional. Never thought of a cocktail with lavender and these guys nailed it every sense. Ambience is out of the world and so much thought bring out into every thing. All those things along with friendly staff made up for the music and more.
R. J.
Such a great atmosphere and design! I'm very glad we found this hidden bar. Staff were all friendly, wait time for a table was reasonable (about 10 minutes at the door) and drinks were all delicious. I've been here a few times now and is always worth the experience.
S. Y.
What a great concept of a bar. East meets west Germany. We had the Japanese whiskey flight which was really good for $20 and the Nikka Coffee was so delicious! Service was friendly but they were a little understaffed so wait times were a little long. Usually busy on weekends but if you get there early before 9pm, there's plenty of seating.

Combining two profoundly significant areas of the 20th century into a bar setting was always going to be a bit of a challenge. After locating the front door, so one rings the doorbell and then being permitted to enter, visitors must choose between either the West or East side of the bar. With the opulence of the West and the poverty of the East to choose from, only one thing is certain, the drinks are quirky and to die for. Passport essential and cross the border to the other side, sorry B for posting this review so late
P. Z.
This place is mad!!!! The cocktails are delicious, the beers are cold and tasty as
They have German beers on offer which is really nice but the highlight of the day was the Dmitry olyakov cocktail, you have to try, super super delicious
M. N.
As I live in Berlin for the past four years myself and have experienced the vibe of both east and west Berlin, I totally connected to the environment of this bar! It was really cool to see how people enjoy what you have basically lived...
First of all you have to "buzz" to enter! Which is really spooky and reminded me of the unusual places in Berlin.
The east part has a more chaotic design opposing to the western part which is more modern and chic!
The lighting showcased the bars in Berlin and the sentence "Ich bin ein Berliner" in the red neon light which is also reflected in the mirror on the wall next to it, simply brought a huge smile on my face. The little details such as the sign which warns you that you are leaving west Berlin, the divided map of the city into two parts, the customs (toll) office sign and of course the most important and famous Fraternal kiss painting on the Berlin wall by Dmitri Vrubel... all I can say is well done!
J. M.
Berlin Bar is a trendy concept bar decked out in German theme with a west and east Berlin side. What I love about it - apart from the German beers of course - is that it’s not too crowded and busy, even on a Friday night. You can hear your friends talk! We spent the whole night here and enjoyed a tasty cheese platter, characturie board and popcorn chicken to line our stomachs. Good and friendly service from the staff, if you’re looking for a quirky bar you can spend the night at this is your bet!
J. v. B.
Deliciously flavoured cocktails, loved the Angela Merkel (sour & sweet). We didn't have a problem with a queue and managed to get a seat quickly. Crowd isn't that friendly so best to go with a small group and sit in a booth. Not the cheapest but the quality is worth it!
A. M.
Always great cocktails and friendly service, as well as an extensive list of gins to try out. Also worth keeping an eye out for their special cocktails on their Instagram!
S. M.
Nice thematic bar with a West/East Berlin theme in two separate areas. Relatively small, giving it an exclusive feeling. Very limited food menu (some nibbles mainly), but a good selection of German (how else) beers.
K. J.
Cool bar with a comprehensive drinks menu. Whether you are feeling good or bad, you'll find a side that'll fit your needs. The even give you a drink map to help you find your way.
E. C.
Loved this bar! The divided rooms had great vibes. The cocktails were all amazing, and the drink map was a fun way to narrow down your choice. Staff was friendly with great table service.
B. T.
The layout and interior of the bar is original and quirky. Loved my special gin and tonic. Other than the bathroom being unisex, this spot is great. Make sure to wait a bit once you have pressed the doorbell, especially on a busy night.
M. H.
Sat at the East side and really liked the cold war decor. Only issue is the music is a tad loud. Nice selection of cocktails.
N. G.
Nice and tucked away secret bar, went here with a few friends. The menu is fun and cocktails are potent and taste great. The waiter was knowledgeable and friendly, overall a great experience :)
E. U.
Fantastic WWII themed bar with some of the best whiskey and gin cocktails in town.
Y. P.
Nice decoration and great song with relax atmosphere. The wine is cheap with all this! Excellent bar, highly recommend!
S. K.
Cute doorbell outside, beautiful table service, fantastic red and black decor, sweet music, not too loud that you can't have a conversation without straining, and an extensive range of cocktails, innovative menu, and unique and beautiful recepticles. Really good - all the elements for a perfect bar. Makes me want to go to Berlin. Five thumbs up from me.
J. B.
Basically a regular at this point, the staff are friendly and the drinks are divine. Even if you need a lil snack before hand the appetizers are fantastic as well. If I could give this place six stars I would.
P. S.
A little gem of a cool bar. The service was attentive yet discreet. Looking forward to my next visit. Drinks menu was extensive and included German beers, go figure!
T. d. R.
Such an interesting setup of the dichotomy of historical west and eastern Berlin. Novel cocktails menu that might seem overwhelming but definitely worth a try. Knowledgeable staff with great service !
C. B.
Interesting bar with nice cocktails. Lovely service.
H. S.
Great place! Multi Levels, music is good, staff are brilliant and happy. Drinks and jugs were great and very different!
If your looking for different and don't know where to start.... this is the place!
B.
Such an amazing find. You have to ring a bell to be let into the bar then you choose if you are East or West Berlin. Great selection of cocktails too.
S. H.
Funky vibe, great staff and top notch boilermakers. A little bit hard to order your second drink. They sit you down and get you sorted but you've gotta get up and order after the first round. Will the Wizard is a genius!
K. O.
Gorgeous intimate bar hidden up an unassuming flight of stairs in Chinatown.
Cocktails are reasonably priced without skimping on quality.
Definitely head to East Berlin for that Tinder date you are really keen on - and if they appreciate it you know they're a keeper!
Will always try and stop by for a drink on a night out - even if it's just one!
E. M.
Fun bar with nice beer/whisky/cocktail combos
G. S.
Wow - fantastic decor from 2 differing styles
Great drinks - good cocktails and got a tasting each of scotch and Japanese whiskys... very nice to get 3 differing but fantastic examples of each
A. M.
Absolutely great staff, fun environment with great drinks!
L. T.
Great vibe, delicious cocktails, and super friendly staff. My only gripe was that the service was a little hit or miss (it was inundated with people, even for a Sunday night) and the drinks were decently expensive, even for what they were.
O.
Im from germany and this bar was very funny for me. Atmosphere was awesome. Only 4 stars because Cocktails were really expensive (20 Dollar) and no one could spoke german, not even a bit like "how are you". Cocktail was good
S. V.
Great drinks and vibe. Loved the decor
P. M.
Quirky bar. Super friendly staff. Get there early for a table. Really good drinks. Recommend
C. “. T.
Cozy, cool theme, hip crowd, friendly staff and WOW cocktails 🍸👍
J. R.
Used to have a theme. Now it’s just a normal bar with a slightly German menu and a picture of Stalin on the wall. Fine as a bar goes but don’t expect anything special.
D. C.
A great little hidden Cocktail Bar with a nice moody atmosphere.
The decor was on point.
Cocktails are all great fun, and well priced.
I tried a number of their cocktails, but my favourite was definitely the Valentina Tereshkova.
However, the service certainly leaves something to be desired and gives the whole place a mark down. At one point it took us 30 minutes just to get a server's attention. For such a small place, and comparing to other cocktail bars, it was kind of ridiculous. At one point later on in our night we got fed up and had one of us go over to the bar to try and order instead, to which we were told 'no, no, I'll come to you'. 15 minutes later, and he'd clearly forgotten, so we got up, grabbed a different server, and brought him over to our table to order.
But all in all, we still really enjoyed our night.
So, if I experience a different level of service next time, I'll adjust my rating.
I. G.
Delicious cocktails, although a little small in relation to the price.
I recommend to find out about the magician's show before going, since we didn't see it because we didn't find out before.
I loved the quiet atmosphere to have some cocktails and talk.
R. B.
Love the different theme of East Vs West, choosing between good and evil as soon as you walk in really sets the semi adventurous mood. Love how they've designed their cocktail menu, like a choose your own path quiz to get to the cocktail that suits your flavour. The food there was nice and a good decent portion. Plenty of seating for couples and for large groups. Staff here very friendly, I'll definitely be coming back again
A. C.
Excellent German theme cocktail bar. Service is excellent and the price are reasonable.
R. C.
The place has an awesome atmosphere. Worth having a drink here to experience it. We like a sweet cocktail. The menu page with those was no longer available. We asked for the opinion of the friendly and helpful staff. The cocktail was super sour and another staff member agreed and offered another. Sadly this was better but not for us. Good staff and great vibe
A. R.
Such a fun themed bar in a little Melb laneway!
M. V.
A very cool bar with an interesting theme. The bar is split into east and west Germany, with one being rich & opulent, and the other looking more like a communist army bunker compete with bunk bed and bathtub. The cocktails we tried were tasty and the wines were reasonably priced. You may have to wait a while to get in, but it is definitely worth it.
S. O.
Immersive themed cosy atmosphere, brilliant ambience, THE BEST cocktails in all of Melbourne. No cheaping on ingrediants or preparation, original cocktails of the finest level for a most reasonable price ($20).
Extensive but easy to follow menu which gives you a clear picture of tasting notes for beer, wine, spirits, cocktails.
3 pages of whisky in the menu, whisky fanatics this is a place for you.
They offer flights of whisky from different regions, tequilla, mezcal
Their popcorn chicken is to die for.
Cannot recommend this place enough, an absolute must visit. Sure to impress!
D. P.
Fun inner city bar in Melbourne. Great theme. Need to go back so that I can try a few more cocktails. Beer was great.
P. J.
Great cocktails. We have tried both side of Berlin bar and it's got amazing ambience.
N. L.
Great vibe and interesting decor. The cocktails are all a little unique and different, and all excellent.
J. M.
A great themed bar, they've really done a good job with this one. The cocktails are interesting and well made and the atmosphere in the room is fun. If you haven't been before and like a good cocktail, definitely check it out
V. S.
What can I say, I am in love with this place. At first we were surprised with their system of maintaining who came into the bar, you have to give them a buzz for them to let you in. Once you'rr in though you're in for a treat. The bar really follows through with its theme and the drinks selection is fantastic! We tried two beers, on I had tried before (but not my companion), and one we had never tried before. The flavours were so complex, our novice beer drinker worlds were shaken up. To top it off the seating arrangements were perfect, the staff were so awesome and kind, and entertaining with some of the patrons. We did not sample a lot of their food but what we did try was great! Definitely a new favourite and go to bar.
S. K.
Getting to the place had me climbing up a flight of stairs to a small attic looking doorway that had a doorbell. Upon ringing it and a lady opening it I was pleasantly surprised at the rustic and private feel of the bar. Not rowdy or crowded at all. The drinks were definitely great and their special historic cocktail is not for the light hearted, best to have with food if you want to avoid getting drunk quickly.
K. A.
Very cool! Set up in 2 sections of East and West Berlin with lots of old memorabilia, really enjoyed the cocktails and the vibes. We had to put our name and number on a list and wait quite a while to get in but there is another bar downstairs you can enjoy in the meantime, and it was interesting enough that I'm glad I did. A little pricy for drinks but they were quite strong.
A. S.
Excellent cocktails in East or West Berlin - themed bar. We chose East.
N. D.
Great staff, I love the atmosphere in there and the 2 sides of the bars (east Berlin and west Berlin) makes it a quite unique place.
They have good cocktails and if you spend enough time, there's some chance you'll meet the magician. A must
A. E.
Great experience from the moment you ring the door bell!!
Cocktails are fairly priced and you get professional service to go with it!
10/10
K.
A great hidden gem in Melbourne. Enter up a staircase where you ring the doorbell to enter and are greeted by a very friendly staff member who let's you in and gives you a brief rundown of cold war Berlin. 2 areas divide the venue and are both unique. Great cocktails and awesome atmosphere. Definitely recommend this bar.
N. R.
Quite a nice laid back bar. Open approaching the door way with a little security strip you don't really know if you are in the right place.... But as you enter you are welcomed by a warm and cosy feeling and can choose if you want to sit on the luxurious or rustic side. Cocktails are really well done and the setting is fantastic but could do with some more food options
A. V.
Awesome bar! Feels so exclusive with its 'buzz-in' entry. Great drinks menu and fantastic vibes inside with the two sides! Definitely a must-try if you're visiting Melbourne.
C. B.
Had a bit of a wait to get in but it was worth it. We were originally seated on one side then got asked to move to the other so a bigger group could enter, which was fine as we got to experience both sides. Very interesting vibe and unlike any other place in Melbourne that I've been too. Had some great cocktails and even got a magic show which was unexpected but possibly one of the best I've seen.
S. R.
We really enjoyed our drinks here, it is very unique and a great hidden gem. The drinks are pricey but i thought compared to some places and at how good they were thought it was worth it. You go up and ring a door bell of an average looking place and inside is just such great decor. Service was fast and friendly
C. H.
Visited for the first time tonight and liked everything about it. We couldn't stay long, but I'll check it out again soon because my friend decided he wants to have his 40th birthday there next month. Amazing cocktail and spirits menu, very clever set up.
G. S.
Nice concept. Very different drinks. Highly recommend!
D. J.
Best bad in Melbourne. Unparelled ambiance and delicious drinks. Staff are friendly and have a good understanding of the menu and make good recommendations based on your taste. There can be a long wait on peak nights the only downside but it is well worth it!
K.
Really friendly staff and good vibes.
S. H.
Cocktails are very interesting and pretty nice, beers were really good as well. Fantastic yet contrasting environments between the East and the West. It's got some amazing chips (their seasoning and sauce is awesome), the charcuterie board was pretty nice too. Pity the schnitzel burger ran out though.
C. B.
Yaaaaaaas this place is so awesome.
Would live here if possible.
They do have bunk beds... something to consider.
Drinks are great, and the atmosphere is so much fun. Fancy cocktails all round.
K. M.
Interesting themed Speakeasy in the CBD! Fantastic cocktails menu
J. H.
Wow, best mock tail I have ever had!
Mandarin flavour*
t. t.
This place was amazing. Very relaxed atmosphere.
L. F.
I'd go back, the atmosphere was cool, sweet playlist. From the moment you step in you are transported and the split between East and West is too good.
Beyond that, we all enjoyed our cocktails, good list.
P. B.
The atmosphere & decor of the place is really good. The cocktail I had (Madison Avenue, I believe) was really good! The waiter however was not very polite and eager to close the place even though I arrive 45 mins before closing time. Other than that great place.
H.
Great drinks, good atmosphere and accommodating bartenders. They made a flaming drink that they usually do during winter for myself and a special absinthe drink set for a friend which was great.
It should be noted though that one side of the bar is quite noisy and hard to hear in and that there is often a wait on the stairs outside.
V. L. A.
Unforgettable experience! The place is amazing! Very cozy and has a relaxed atmosphere. What i love the most is their super friendly staff. The price for their drinks is affordable as well.
B. P.
This theme of this bar is really cool and truly captures the essence of interior design of the era. The drink were expensive but that was to be expected. Downside was we had to wait around 20-30 minutes to get in.
J. H.
Absolutely loved this place! Quirky, cool, relaxed vibe. My friend and I were treated to a personal 15 minute magic show performed by a roving magician - was an awesome experience. Wicked cocktail list and amazing gin list! A 'must do' if in Melbourne.
C. U.
Amazing atmosphere, super cool decorations and a great range of cocktails!
R. W.
Fantastic ambience, drinks are a little pricey but very nice, and when I went, they had little history tidbits which I loved! It was a unique, interesting experience made even better with super friendly staff.
M. G.
Service wasn't great, waited about halfa to order drinks and couldn't even order a beer while waiting for cocktails to come out. C'mon!
J. R.
Wonderful vibe, great service, and awesome cocktails! Both East and West Berlin have their unique charms and the whole place is just fun to be in. Numbers are controlled so it's never too crowded. If you want a memorable cocktail, try a "blitzkrieg"!
I. J.
Good drinks, good atmosphere, desperately needs more staff. My friends and I waited 40 minutes for our (admittedly very good) drinks, and I’m pretty sure it’s because they don’t have enough staff to sustain a table service model. I can see the kind of place they’re aiming for, and if they achieve it the bar will be fantastic, but they won’t reach it until they solve the service problem.
E. R.
Lots of character to this bar split into two themes - East Germany with bunks, barbed wire and silent movies, and West Germany with swank lounges and gilded window frames. German-themed cocktails and the best absinth I've had yet. A great time!
M. M.
Gorgeous, charming, sophisticated, novel, well-planned.... the cocktails were complex if a little pricey. A magician even visited my friend and I! He was a little clumsy but his friendly patter definitely made our night.
J. R.
Cool bar, entered from a street in China town, up a couple of stairs. The bar has two sides like that of the wall west and east Berlin. We sat in East Berlin which is dystopian. The had run out of one beer but the drinks menu has a good selection of German beers, cocktails and wine. They serve bar snacks too which include warm olives. I would definitely go back with friend's.
S. A.
I love it! I have been here with friends and I have so many good memories! Staff is friendly as well. Nice drinks and cheese platter
A. F.
Very interesting themed bar on a side street in the city, easily missed. Luckily we had someone with us that had been before and knew where we were going.
After entering a door way and climbing some stairs you have a choice of east or west Berlin as you step back in time inside this bar. The west side is opulence and luxury where the east side is poor and basic. Nice novelty bar but the drinks are very expensive, beer $14 + and cocktails $20+. Having been to Germany and other European countries this is where the bar falters. The size of the drinks and the prices don't come close to imitating that of a German bar sadly. Fun non the less....
T. W.
This is the best bar in Melbourne. After you ring the doorbell, you are greeted by a friendly staff member who will guide you to either East or West Berlin (set during the Berlin-Wall era). There is an extensive cocktail menu, but if you like the cheaper option (like me), you can grab a nice spirit + beer combination for about $18. All staff are very helpful and the beers are delicious.
C. K.
Brilliant idea for a bar! This was recommended by a friend and thoroughly lived up to the expectations. We were sat in West Berlin for our time there, and the staff happily gave a tour across checkpoint Charlie to East Berlin. Definitely a must do while in Melbourne!
N. M.
The drinks are expensive, but they provide a good menu for you to customize your cocktail experience just the way you want it. Interesting concept of east and west Berlin, though I felt like I had stepped into Turkey with the decorations and the atmosphere. Bartenders are great too, ask for a recommendation!
P. S.
Very interesting decor and style based on West and East Berlin, will make for a memorable experience that is very different from any other bar. The perfect place to start a long night, or to have a quiet night.
D. p.
It's okay, don't know what the whole fuss is about. Not that great of a bar but not the worse. It's definitely a place I'd go back to once in a while, but there are better options.
There menu setup is cool as well as their theme of east and west Berlin but that's all it really offers.
E. O.
Pretty awesome themed bar! Cocktails were unreal and explained them all really well in the menu. Would definitely go here for a special drink
J. E.
Has an exclusive feel, and is crowd-controlled -- never overcrowded, no large groups.
Cocktails are expensive, but unique. Worth a visit to see the decor, great for 2-4 people. Get there earlier in the night to avoid a line :)
C. W.
best cocktails ive had and great staff. theyve adapted to covid very well!
E. C.
Press the buzzer at the top of the stairs, await exceptional service and something different from a cocktail bar. Although some may say it's a little gimmicky... don't let that sway your decision on visiting. Cocktails are done well. 4/5. I'll return here when friends visit Melbourne, because its certainly a place to show off.
G. I.
Quirky bar with speakeasy-style entrance. Very friendly staff who were also knowledgeable about the alcohol. Large range of beers, wines and spirits. Fun kitsch artwork and decorations around the place.
G. G.
Nice place, good cocktails and good music. Went there because our friend recommended it, but we were expecting to be assessed and moved to east or west by our look. But it didn't happen, she just asked where we want to seat.
R. C. (.
Really friendly service, and chill vibes. Really great to bring a date or a couple of friends here. Sweet lighting and relaxed tunes.
Great mocktails, and an eclectic selection of alcoholic drinks.
Will definitely visit again.
A. B.
Lots of fun in two bar settings. Drinks are good and even had a guy do a magic trick for us which was really nice and built on the experience. Really recommended people to try it out.
S. W.
We went on a Sunday evening, so it was very quiet, which put a dampener on the night. But everything else was great - the service, drinks and design of the bar. I could imagine that going on a different night may have made the night that 5 star experience!
H. C.
Very cool, quirky place with an East/West Berlin theme. Great choice of cocktails and German beers with accompanying spirits for each different beer. Standard Melbourne prices but well worth the visit.
S. C.
This quirky, split space laneway bar is worth seeking out. Finding this place is half the adventure, nestled in a laneway in the heart of Chinatown, climb a few flights of stairs to the locked door, ring the bell and wait to be invited in. It's quite the treasure where East meets West - east is all grungy and west is all opulence and chandeliers. Cocktails are where it's at here but the making of them is quite the art form - this is more a place to settle in rather than a quick drink. The 80s soundtrack is just fabulous!
N. Z.
After being vetted at the black door with a eye slot, option to have a classy cocktail in east Berlin or wild and fun drinks on the bunk bed in West Berlin. Quiet fun and classy dive, great pace for a small group or date night ;)
p.
OK but nothing like the pictures suggest. The two "rooms" (east and west) are tiny . . . very tiny. And one room, while depicting poorer conditions, appeared very unclean with people sprawling on the double-bunk bed while they drank. Won't be returning to this one, I'm afraid!
E. L.
Cool place, very nice cocktails.. we had 4, and all of them were perfect. Nice decoration, you can choose west or east berlin decoration room. Cool? Love that place
B. P.
Great drinks and superb staff! Very knowledge and eager to share. Not to mention the great ambiance. We've sat in both the west and east side and both were awesome!
C. T.
Seriously cool bar. The cocktail menu is impressive and the bartenders take their craft seriously. Worth a visit just to sit and enjoy the atmosphere, if nothing else.
N. K.
Very cool bar, super nice service as well. You have to ring a doorbell to enter the bar, and once you're inside you can choose whether you want to sit in the plush Western side, or the dark camo-covered Eastern side. Nice attention to detail!
C. J.
Fun and sophisticated with delicious cocktails and a vibrant atmosphere
J. W.
Love the concept! Super friendly staff too. It’s a bit hidden, but so worth it!
C. W.
Cool Berlin inspired cocktail bar with table service and a speakeasy vibe.
J. F.
A true Melbourne boutique, hidden away off the China Town drag, up a dark staircase and through a buzzer locked door awaits this gem! Amazing cocktails and service and an atmosphere that will bring you back. This is a place to visit.
C. J.
This place is so cool. I would have never known it was there--it is a well hidden treasure. Make sure you find it and visit both East and West Berlin, it is so educational! And the food and wine rock.
J. C.
Very contrasted experience between the 2 rooms (been told they represent East Berlin vs. West Berlin). The West is cozy and comfortable, I would highly recommend. The East is noisy and very basic, not worth it in my mind esp. as the prices are the same on both sides.
M. W.
Love the atmosphere here. The staff was very welcoming and knowledgeable about their menu and the selection contained with in. Certainly something completely different than any other place I've been for some drinks. I will certainly be going back when I am in Melbourne next.
h. e.
An amazing theme, really cool and quirky. Cocktails were $20 and so strong and not very nice or worth the money but it was a great experience and I would go again
m. b.
Super cool bar and tasty drinks. The sausage was not nice.
M. F.
This place is really amazing, and the most beautiful thing is admiring the big passion of the cocktail maker (I think his name is Giacomo) transferred from his skilled hands right through your glass.
Divine!!!
S. S.
Fancy bar with interesting interior design playing on the stereotypes of East and West Berlin. The choice of German beers is limited to mainly one brand and white beers/Weißbier/Weizen, but moreover also Australian wines and chocktails are offered.
K.
Fun place for visitors of Melbourne with great cocktails. Two different themed areas - east and west with the decor and vibe reflecting the different personalities of East and West Berlin. Pricey but then again most cocktails in Melbourne are pricey!
G. Y.
Great music and creative selection of cocktails. Loved the themed decor and menu. Closes a bit later than other bars at 2am.
P. d. J.
Enjoyable, would have been better if there was some roleplaying with the east west German theme.
A. W.
Always a fun spot to visit. Really interesting mix of familiar and new cocktails. Love the vibe and the decor.
P. S.
The bar is set up into two parts, westerm and eastern Germany, the western part is more of like a 1920 feel, rich and upper-class, while the other part is like 1980s DDR and has a more original german feel to it. Went there with three other german friends and they all agreed. Decoration is hilarious in a good way.
The serve drinks and snacks at ok prices.
Some standard spirits are missing though.
A.
Staff was friendly, charming and accommodating. Drinks were done well. Music and atmosphere was on point. Mr. Marmalade was an unexpected but fun bit of entertainment.
B. -. K.
One of my favorite secret bars in Melbourne. The cocktails are very delicious and the environment is very cool. Especially love the bunk bed and the bathtub.
H. K.
Love the bar but limited food choices
J. O.
Stuffed up both our drink orders, but still a cool bar
C. O.
Really relaxed place with nice staff. Hendricks him and tonic was perfect. Shame our food didn't show up before we left, but they were happy to refund us
A. B. W.
Decor has gotten more corporate since the first time I visited a few years ago, but service is still good and good espresso martinis. Fun to take Melbourne visitors because of the whole secret door thing...
D. T.
Great ambience and good drinks.
G. M.
Cool little venue and a loaded bar. Staff are excellent and very friendly. Don't go hungry though, the bar food offerings are pretty meagre.
Y. Y.
This is one of the coolest bars in Melbourne and is divided into two halves of Berlin. Their highlights are the cocktails which are expertly crafted by talented bartenders.
C. D.
Fun place but probably comes alive later in the evening. Cocktails are fascinating & the staff great entertainment
D. C.
Drinks were very tasty and not overpriced, really nice staff and a very unique and interesting vibe. Definitely recommend.
B. D. C.
The most amazing vibes and drinks. They are a bit pricey but well worth it
J. '. D.
Awesome theme! Great drinks menu for those who haven't found their favourite cocktail yet.
N. B. (. G. T.
Cool Vibe. Friendly and attentive hosts. Cocktails were well made and plenty of variety.
P. S. (.
A great pleasure drinking some well executed cocktails. Lovely environment.
M. C.
Vast cocktail selection, fast service. Recommended cocktail bar
K. F.
Very cool little bar, you need to be let it, have to buzz at the door.
Very good cocktails and general spirit selection
R. Z.
It is a bit of a secret bar, highly recommended. The cocktails are great, and the service is also. They use the fancy see-through ice also, which I love.
L. V.
Totally in-concept for for east for east and west berlin! Good bottled German beer for $13-16 and cocktails. Def fun place to start your night in chinatown
K. H.
Theme is fun and they have a few drinks that are suited to the theme but otherwise not much else different to other spots.
S. G.
Rad bar good set up! Awesome cocktails
B. H.
Not a bad place for some drinks, although the staff can be a bit rude sometimes. On this occasion we waited 30 minutes for our drinks to be served but the staff apologised profusely and gave us a 20% discount.
S. B.
Incredible. Leo looked after us so well, amazing service and really novel aesthetic. I had the "Ziege", and I tried some of the "Blitzkreig", both of which were phenomenal. After appreciating the east vs west Germany theme a little, we headed down to Brutale to have a brownie (also great, by the way). Leo came with us and made sure the kitchen was still serving, which was a great touch. Absolutely everything was provided for.
L. M.
Great atmosphere, drinks were very nice (albiet expensive), however worth the price for an unforgettable experience
A. Z.
What a delightful venue! Absolutely charming staff (even giving us a tour upon entry), fabulous drinks and a very fun roving magician some nights.
E. T. (.
Great bar, good decor
M. C.
Such a great experience. The waiters were so acommodating, the drinks were fantastic, and the experience of our time here was wonderful. Thank you.
S. B.
AMAZING! Atmosphere, cocktails, theming, SO AWESOME! Will the Magician is there and he BLEW MY MIND! Such a great place, couldn’t reccommend it more! 😊
V. M.
I personally loved the whole theme. From the front door, the whole way through. This was complimented by an incredible drinks menu and entertaining staff.
F. B.
Super cool themed bar with delicious cocktails. Staff went above and beyond for our group and were very friendly.
T. P.
Amazing bar tucked away ,we went East side the cheese platter and german beers were the best..so very cool
C. B.
Amazing beer, amazing gin and tonics, great staff, really cool atmosphere n feel. Great place to take mates from overseas n show what were about here in melb.
J. H.
Quirky and chic. Great range of G&T's. Don't expect the staff to speak to you in German but loved it all the same.
R. N.
Was nice hidden bar in the middle of town. Had nice decoration and obviously good german beers, they offered great mic and match per german beers with tequila, vodka, etc
F. C.
Awesome place, been here 3-4 times. Service is always fantastic, and the atmosphere is nice!
Love the HMS Daiquiri and Schofferhofer Kristallweizen!
C. D.
13$ pint of german pilsner. Not crazy considering the average price in Australia. Nice music but lacking uummpphh. Small venue limited interactions. But the penis to vagina ratio is good for men. It's 1030 and half empty on a Friday.
D. Z.
Great antique atmosphere and decór, enthusiastic waiters as well as a magician entertaining us halfway through our pricey but quality drinks and food.
R. H.
Awesome hidden bar in Melbourne. Highly recommend you find it and ring the bell to see if you can get in 😁
Staff are super friendly, bar is extensive and we'll priced
E. B.
Great staff, good food and an incredible cocktail list all set in your choice of ritzy East Berlin or the hidden wonders of West Berlin.
D. W.
Best bar visited in Melbourne. Not over crowded or too loud, actually has a bit of a speakeasy vibe to it. No doubt will be returning here when I visit again!
D. L.
Really great vibe for a bar. Nazi videos being projected on the wall was a bit much for me but the drink list was extensive and the service was wonderful and attentive.
S. H. P.
Trendy experience, makes a change from regular bars
D.
The staff were very knowledgeable and had great suggestions on the cocktails. Will definitely be back. Plus quirky concept
A. W.
Great cocktails but they could make the German theme stronger with accents and language etc
J. S.
Atmosphere is on point! Such a cool set up!!! Friendly staff and interesting cocktails :)
A. E.
I went there few times and I love the atmosphere. Cocktails are maybe too expensive
D. S.
Unique place. Good atmosphere, music, drinks, decoration, etc.
G. M.
I love this place, it's cosy and the cocktails are amazing! You usually have to wait for a table but it's worth it!
J. J.
Such a good bar. Amazing service, the staff are so lovely.
And those cocktails!!!! So good
K. F.
They should let the east cross the river. It's a cool secret rendezvous joint. Bar snacks actually super good value und super lecker ja

T. S.
Cool and funky. German beers, cocktails, 80's music but no luftbaloons. East meets West
R.
Interesting theme and decor. Drinks were varied and tasty, albeit on the pricey side.
J. W.
Nice place. Bit weird that have to wait behind a closed door when full. Prices a bit high. Lavender cocktail was nice
S. S.
It's a funky place for a novel drink with tourists, but as far as cocktail bars go Melbourne has better to offer.
L. L.
Awesome venue, with good drink selection. Get there early on a weekend to ensure entry and a seat.
S. C.
Love the decor, cocktails were faultless - well worth the wait to be served on arrival!

G. T.
Lovely and (kinda) authentic interior, very cosy. Nice staff, creative drinks, awesome experience!
C. B.
Great spot, and very cool idea of Berlin being split by the wall. Awesome cocktails, with a roaming magician.
J. D.
Good burgers but really bad service, expensive in geberal for the quality of service you get. They forgot our order and we wait 20 m for getting some beers when the bar was half empty.
S.
The best themed bar in Melbourne. Staff are incredibly friendly and tentative. Only issue is the music isnt as great as it was.
E. P.
Slightly pricey cocktails but a really cool spot for something unique and delicious.
m. c.
Great meeting place and cosy bar with a great drinks menu. Friendly and welcoming staff too
M. F.
This place was rad cocktails were freaking delish and the beer was massive

R. D.
Fantastic cocktails and atmosphere, but slow service lets this bar down a bit.
D. P.
Awesome cocktails

West does table service and is a pinch more fancy. East is street, get your drinks at the bar and smash a currywurst while you are at it.
J. P.
Great concept with the split east and west Berlin sections of the bar. Huge cocktail selection.
M.
Nice atmosphere to have a chat with friends, love the two different sides and the drinks are well worth the money
K. P.
An amazing atmosphere, with a quirky feel. The two sides of the at is a great idea and gives a sobering feel to what it could have been like at the time.
