Comments of Builders Arms Hotel
Q. M.
Came here for a meal recently that was unfortunately a bit lacklustre. The sausage was very salty and could have used a bit of mash or something to balance it out. The stracciatella and anchovy toast was good but the tomato dish was also a bit underwhelming. Service and drinks were nice though - I appreciate the extensive selection. Would just love to see more beers that mirror the quality and uniqueness of the wine list.

As pubs go, this is a good one. The food is good, albeit expensive. This is one of Andrew McConnell’s string of restaurants. Over the years it’s had, along with the bistro, a fine dining restaurant in it, then a hipster Chinese restaurant. They’ve since knocked down the walls inside and opened it all up, and now only serve bistro pub food - which is better! The spot roasts are great. Great place for a long boozy lunch.
S. S.
OMG... this venue has the best fish pie EVER!!! the staff were so lovely and attentive even though we sat outside and in fact when we asked if we could sit outside there were no tables available but without being asked when one came available our lovely waitress asked us if we would like to move as a table was free. Makes you want to support this business.
J. L.
One of my favourites. The food is all excellent! We’ve worked through the menu through all our visits. Good atmosphere and decor. Always worth a visit.
T. S.
Stylish pub. The decor is lovely but understated. The menu is a bit all things to all people but still pretty good. My companions and I had a good time here. My dish was the chicken parma with mozzarella and fenel slaw. A lovely offering it was too. It’s a fine place. I’d happily return.
S. D.
Had high expectations but was a little disappointed. Perhaps due to just coming out of lockdowns and the staff getting into the swing of things. The feedback that made me chose BA was very positive. Just found the service a bit absent and took too long to order food. Just have the MrYum app or something so people can order and pay from the table.
May return later in 2022.

Recently dined in the bistro area with friends. We decided to share both entrees and mains as per staff’s recommendation which was a great suggestion.
Whipped cod roe and rainbow trout were both highlights as well as the chopped broccoli and baby gem salads.
Staff were friendly and attentive throughout.
COVID measures have been implemented well though would be great to see some hands free dispensers at the rest room doors.
D. K.
Good place to go. Meals were tasty although a little pricey. They even had a Sunday roast which was nice to see and somewhat of a rarity in pubs here in Australia.
m. s.
Fairly good. Mussels were delicious, good selection of beer and star were good too..clean toilets is always a bonus.
N.
We had an so much fun in the small private function room upstairs. 18 of us enjoyed the amazing food, and danced and sang to celebrate our Mum's 85th birthday. Thanks to Rachael and Ruby who helped coordinate the event, and Lane who took care of us on the day.
D. M.
My first tastes of freedom, The Builders, Marion, Gimlet all run by the same group and not only do I feel like I'm assisting their recovery, they are most definitely assisting mine, awesome kind staff, impreccable service and always the most well designed and quality food and wine menu. Great Vibe! Fantastic company.
W. H.
The drinks and service were excellent.
The overpriced food was not. I got the cheeseburger and it came with a paltry amount of fries. The burger looked so unappealing and tasted similar. It was small and the buns were not even the same size. It was so underwhelming.
C. K.
The half-chicken, the flank steak and the rump (pictured) are excellent. The fries are on-point. Beers by the jug 🙌🏽
b. m.
The cod roe is amazing. The service was friendly. We were a group of 4 and loved the food. The menu would not suit kids
K. E.
Very impressive ‘gastronomic’ pub with a great food offering. A nice range of beers and wine, pleasant decor (it is a pub, after all) and warm and comfortable on a winters night. We sat looking out on the courtyard, watching the rotisserie working - and had the roast chicken for dinner. Just perfect and served with polenta and greens. A great evening and we will be back.
M.
Great service by Stella our waitress. Looked after us very well and helped extend our time at the venue without compromising COVID rules. Good food here too
J. S.
Very good food in this gastropub. The restaurant staff were awesome. The bar was very busy on the night we went in so it was very loud, though not rowdy. Staff mentioned this was due to a few big parties. Will try it again another time as the food was very nice!
P. W.
Gentrified gastropub with weeknight specials including Meatsmith steaks on Mondays and delicious half roast chicken on Tuesdays.
P.
We always come here for the steak night on Monday. Definitely one of the best $19 steak I’ve tried in Melbourne. They’ve got some other special menu during the week. If you like steak, give this one ago. Totally worth it
L. S.
Great food, very good service. Wine list also very good and wide-ranging.
L. N.
Had not been here since Ricky and Pinky. Had the lunch special, which was a beef cheek and ox tail pie. Decadent goodness as you can see from the picture. High end bistro menu. Will be back to try more.
T.
Not a bad spot, I would definitely go back for a drinking sesh
Only downside it that they don't serve up any of the classic pub fare as far as meals go, everything on the menu is a little bit too extra for me
I would've loved to see parmi's and schnitties on the menu or bangers and mash, not 'pig head croquettes'
T. S.
Friday night was very busy. Pretty good atmosphere. Food was good but warning to the unprepared, the prawns in the calamari and prawns are not shelled and have heads included. They are deep fried and crispy delicious tho. I had a good night but my wife was put off by the prawns.
S. F.
Consistently great meals even at Christmas time. Always impressed by the friendly staff
B. P.
Love Gertrude St and the Builders Arms doesn’t disappoint. Food, service and drink very good, order the dip just for the toasted fingers, so moorish, pate delicious but the scotch egg a let down, egg perfect but the sausage casing a little thin and quite crunchy. Need a better sound system in the bar, sounded like it was good music but just couldn’t make it out. Overall, it’s great, especially for a bit of people watching.
K. D.
Nahh. Sorry guys, just not good enough. 60% of tap beers not available, very average food & staff. No, you can do better in this area.
j. h.
Highly recommended the Parma. It's next level. Burger was not bad either, all and all a great lunch
K.
Great food, more of a restaurant vibe than a pub. Only schooners.
S.
We had some seafood very fresh, and also had the roast chicken, it was juicy and tender. Had great time.
R. W.
Super Christmas function venue. Food was quality, service was terrific, look forward to returning.
J. T.
Ordinary $19.00 steak night with a beautiful pepper sauce, it needs a bigger plate.
E.
Thanks for having a decent list of alcohol free drinks! Was pleasantly surprised to see so many nice options on the menu, hope it isn't just for Dry July!
H. J.
I live next door to this restaurant and it's very much a hit-and-miss. Overall the atmosphere is great, especially the bar area is fun, despite frequent meltdowns where the line is suddenly 10-15 minutes for no apparent reason. When it comes to food, Sundar Roast/Monday steak/Tuesday chicken rotisserie are the highlights. Whipped cod roe & flat bread is fantastic. Basic stuff such as hamburgers and steaks are fine, albeit a bit price (up to $35). But then the rest of the menu is a big letdown - I highly advice AGAINST fried calamari, mussels, roasted cauliflower (what is that really?), the soaky mafaldine pasta and all the desserts.
B. R.
The atmosphere is buzzing , the food is delicious, the bread chewy and delightful. We come to Andrew’s builders arms regularly and enjoy our time here. The pub style restaurant/bistro is all you’d want in a Melbourne restaurant on a weeknight.
Tonight we are sitting near the kitchen in the dining room with the banquet seating and it’s soooooo loud we can hardly hear each other over the table.
I’m actually shouting !
J. L.
Love this place! Keep coming back because the food is fantastic!
J. V.
Not bad. Over priced for a pub and not much steak for the money I paid
D. R.
Great old pub. One of my faves in Melbourne. Great food, friendly staff and relaxed atmosphere. Recommend this place.
J. J.
A great pub in Melbournes best street. It's better than ever. Last time I was here it was a little confused trying on Asian cuisine in a Fitzroy pub. Asian food is not for pubs IMO. Now it's on point. Classic but quality pub grub, great beers and a crowd that knows what they want. Recommend.
E. H.
Decent atmosphere for a trendy pub. Food is fine, but of course not fine dining! Be careful of parking restrictions in the area if your driving.
R. “.
Nice reno pub, good beer selection. Had the burger $23 was a bit steep and could have been made better value with a next handful of chips rather than a sprinkle
N. 4. t. t.
Far from it's bustling best back in the day, feels dated in a area full of cool offerings.
R. E.
Considering the price the food was pretty average.
Way too much salt on the chips and $12.50 for a schooner equates to $15.60 for a pint of larger.
R. Y.
Lovely menu, lovely vibe, lovely staff.
D. W.
Not the first time at the BAH. Great food and we'll crafted wine list to suit most palates.
Casual dining means it's not stuffy.
V. R.
Nice food. Great to hang out with friends
F. L.
Lovely service. Great drinks and the bar food is on point!
D. J.
Really good. Great staff, great food, great drinks, got the footy in the front bar but more upscale in the dining room. Very buzzy ie noisy but lots of fun
B. T. P.
Nice pub with great service, and $19 steak nights on Monday! Food was delicious, will be back again soon
L. Y. X.
here for the pub crawl in the afternoon 😆 amazing place for dinner too i bet .. will be back
B. C.
Great atmosphere! A bit pricy on the drinks and have heard the burgers are really good.
T. L.
Excellent food in the restaurant, friendly bar staff
C. B.
Had a table in the dining room on a Monday night. It was packed! Food was excellent, beer was cold, service was great.
S. B.
Good spot, cater well to everyone’s needs.
We initially booked inside and then a friend brought their dog so they made room outside.
Service was good, we weren’t left outside and ignored.
Good as always was good and accomodating for children.
J. B.
Had an excellent meal in their dining room while on holiday in Melbourne. The table service is superb. My favourite dish was the broccoli. On another visit we were in with friends for a drink in the courtyard, which was kid friendly. All around a positive experience, good food and a good range of tap beer. I'll be back on future trips to Melbourne.
D. J.
Amazing steak and menu is excellent.
F. M.
Great atmosphere. Lovely food.
S. W.
A small family meal that we were looking forward to. It was OK, but a little below expectations.
The grilled chicken special was plentiful and filling, but nothing out of the ordinary. The house burger was pretty standard.
The wine list had plenty listed but was pitched at mid range or lower (by quality not price). A few different producers, but nothing special or of particularly good quality.
Glad I ticked it off the list, but probably just a one time place.
D. N.
Great place but be wary of the toilets - they always smell !- They are not ventilated so I'd advise sit as far away as possible- They stink when they are clean, They stink when they are dirty-
Andrew fix your toilets mate! Even your delicious food can't mask the pungent stench from the Builders arms toilets -
M. F.
Builders Arms Hotel so we had a great night. There was 8 guests but the dining area was way too noisy to hear anyone across the table. Might I suggest they install baffles of some sort ceiling to soften noise it a bit.
We ordered the Chef selection and everyone was happy. Wine awesome and the staff were accommodating to all needs.
D.
Great staff. Excellent food
D. R.
5/5 !! For a work function held in the private Bowery room upstairs, for 60 guests. The staff were unbelievably helpful, accommodating and lovely. The food magnificent and generous. The room beautiful and stylish ( great air con as well on a 40deg day), and Ruth the event coordinator super organised and helpful with planning before the day! Could not recommend more highly !!!
P. G.
Delicious but $13 for what is essentially pancake batter (yorkie pud) and gravy is a bit mental and a bit of a turn off haha..
j. r.
Good food steak and chips great choice
Nice and clean
Friendly service
Bit noisy but acceptable
J. H.
Great ambience and very knowledgeable staff. As far as pub food goes this place really takes it to the next level. Every dish at our table was outstanding and the wine list was extensive but this place isn't at all pretentious. It is what a pub should be, good music, sport on the bug screen and a dining room that rocks!
D. L.
The food in the restaurant here is sensational. The chicken liver pate was life-changing. I would go back there for that alone. I would also recommend the minute steak with Parisian butter. You should also order a side of carrots. I don't know what the chef does to them but I've never before felt so enthusiastic about vegetables.
M. R.
Builders is my classic go-to venue. A pub with class and quality, while keeping the Fitzroy/Collingwood cool. One of my favorites
l. s.
Very relieved to see the Aussie fare back in such an iconic location, the Asian experiment never really worked for me. Food was really excellent today, service great too. I had the house made vegetarian pasta, lovely delicate and fresh. Hubby the seafood pie, pastry top crispy and seafood plump and tasty. The lettuce side dish was great, simple but packed with flavour especially loved the addition of fresh herbs. we will be back.
P. H.
What a great old pub. I used to come here decades ago when it was still in its original condition. It has been fixed up since those days. The renovations have been done well. It retains its local watering hole feel, but also feels up market. It is well in tune with its suburb and it's market. The prices are reasonable, the place is clean and staff are friendly. It is close to public transport, but don't bother bringing your car, you'll have trouble finding somewhere to leave it. This is a great place to drink, I can't recommend it highly enough.
K. M.
i spent a couple of hours there and really enjoyed the hospitality of the staff and patrons the beer was cool and crispy will visit again when next in Melbourne
J. D.
Good range of non alcoholic drinks, and super fast service.
J. G.
An excellent pub with a bistro option and a grill in the open air garden.
They had a really good beer selection and the barmen were absolutely on point with recommendations from a decent selection of draughts on a chalk board.
Mainly tried a bunch of starters, but everything I ate was good with the beers.
g. M.
Good atmosphere. Very good meal. And the price was good too. Parking is not too bad after 6 pm.
S. D.
What a shame this excellent Hotel is effected by noise. Food and service brilliant. I had the fish pie - brilliant flavour and balance. The noise level in the Bistro was ridiculous. On entering the room it hits you like a train. When our two guests arrived sitting across the table it was impossible to hear. There are several large round tables and when these were all occupied the noise level went up again as guests raised their voices still further struggling to be heard. Surely a sound engineer can be called in for improvements. Other reviews also mention noise and nothing done? No sound baffles in sight. Come on owners please fix the problem. You have brilliant food and staff, so look after their and our ears !
W.
Good beers on tap. Some good specials for meals. But I just love the burger here. It’s great, good ingredients and delicious. Comes with French fries.
Funky relaxed place I reckon.
M.
Quite nice area to fine in. But menu very limited if you're not into the new cuisine type you will probably find your choice limited - as we did.
J. O.
Really really good food. We had rainbow trout and it was the best fish dish I've ever had. Practically crawling off the bone.
Flawless service from the staff. Excellent setting, perfect lighting, noise level, furniture, even the smell of the place.
M. M.
I couldn't recommend the Builder's Arms function team more highly! We recently had a wedding lunch reception in the Bowery Room. The room is beautiful, and right from the start of the process Laura (and before her, Rachel) and her team was super professional and friendly. Everyone said how amazing the food was (I could hear people exclaiming about it all around the room) and the wines were also excellent - thanks to Alex for the selection advice! Everyone who was working on the day was so lovely, they really made everything go smoothly. Thank you!!!
E. K.
I had the Porterhouse steak with kholrabi and fries for lunch. Delicious. The desserts on the menu looked great, but I resisted! The Builders Arms Hotel has a light, open bistro and large dining area out back. Good beers on tap and knowledgeable bar staff. Situated on bustling Gertrude street and close to public transport.
J.
Best Monday night steak in town, at $21 it's a bargain. Really cool and friendly staff, no pretensions and will make you feel comfortable.
A. v. W. (.
Had a work function here in the Bowery room. Very nice venue with great space. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpfull. The food was AMAZING! Especially the chicken and slow cooked Lamb.
D. A.
Bartenders are a bit aloof but food and drink are good.
L. K.
I live in Sydney and always try to make it here when I visit. Best burger in Australia.
R. C.
Nice cold beer and relaxing atmosphere
S. F.
Great pub. A beautiful lunch, top standard personalised service from friendly staff. I'll be back.
S. S.
Love that they got rid of the asian restaurant and have taken it back to good old pub-style food. The food is pricey for pub meals and servings are a bit on the small side and quite stylishly plated-up and you have to order vegies/chips/sides separately. They messed up our order but made up for it very nicely - so no problem there in the end. The place now has a much better vibe and is packed with locals etc. having a great time in relaxed surroundings.
N. B.
Had dinner on Saturday night, staff were awesome, food was great, amazing experience, will definitely be visiting again soon!
E. D.
Although not really the place to take my sister's three kids between 8 and 11 we did anyway. They really loved it, were treated like adults by the staff and were brave enough to taste things they never tried. We were all so relaxed. Mum and I had a great time too. Food was excellent. Ambience wonderful.
J. W.
Wonderful service and ambience. Food was slightly on the pricier end but otherwise still of the palate I expect from a joint like this.
t. a.
Amazing place, variety of delicious food. Staffs are fantastic.wide space with beautiful environment, I personally recommend to have food such a great place.
S. W.
A regular bar lunch spot for my team at work, it was chosen for an end-of-year get together and oh my goodness our table d'hote lunch was MAGNIFICENT. Excellent service. From the seafood entrees through the incredibly tender lamb with perfect sides and finishing with a pannacotta - the food was delicious. Highly recommended.
R. G.
I tell you what, this place and it's upgrade have put this to the top of my list. Ye old Atmosphere is great and the food is top shelf. Whether your having a froth or tucking into the good food, you'll have a solid time (especially if you're a larger group).
J. P.
We had our work Christmas party here and the food was a shared 3 course meal which was stunning! Would go again for sure.
S. K.
Yeah not bad. Frankly I'd rate it three-and-a-half stars out of five if that was an option, so they are really benifiting from rounding convention. I've really got nothing much to say beyond it being a decent pub. Go there, don't go there, up to you.
J. H.
A place to meet up with friends for an icy cold beer.
J. B.
Great experience here on Saturday. Beers were cold. Chicken was moist. Socials were distanced. 10/10 would return.
M. L.
Very busy. Steak night steak was okay, will cooked. Fries instead of chips, and not much salad. Good basic steak and wine pub fare
C. P.
Great service, nice wine list, dishes on the whole were very good
S. B.
Great staff, delicious food and nice wine. I had a fabulous birthday lunch with friends, and can't wait to return.
M. S.
Had a beer in secluded rear courtyard on sunny day. Great environment away from crowd in the street. Looked like they were setting up for outdoor spit roast there.
C. B.
The food was next level pub food. We had a fantastic evening with knowledgeable and relaxed staff who were up for some banter. I had the pasta which was generous and delicious with amazing summer flavours and my partner had the steak which was perfection. The fig tarte tatin was out of this world, the oozy, chewy caramel with the juicy figs and flakey, buttery pastry was world class. You'd be crazy not to go in particularly for this!
L. G.
Nice atmosphere, friendly staff, decent wine. I went for the Monday steak night and it was average. They have good oysters though.
T. L.
Food was lovely and came out fast. Good selection of drinks.
C. C.
Good vibe/setting. Nice and light and really spacious. Small serves so not really value for money and object to having to pay $10 extra for sides e.g. bowl of fries!
K. R.
Great space on the corner, great atmosphere and decor with a wide range of brews! Only down side was the cleanliness, couch seats were crumby and the mirror walls were very dirty and cloudy
B. H.
Limited beer selection but $7 pints during happy hour are ok. Food selection is quite limited. Good location but everything else is fairly average.
P. K.
Outstanding - service is exemplary, and the food awesome. Best pub in the area.
d. m.
Fantastic simple fare , perfectly done steak in a tidy and modern rendition of a traditional tavern.
T. B.
One of the best steaks I have ever had! We also got a cheeseburger which was super tasty as well. Builders Arms never disappoints :) Will be back soon!
J. s.
First post iso meal... Was amazing and not just because I spent the last 6 months eating nothing but undercooked soughdough and Uber eats... Staff were lovely and the food amazing.. was totally worth popping the iso cherry on this badboy
L. O.
Lovely staff, great food, busy and is not your local pub
s. n.
WOW!!!! Clean plate experience from food in detail cooked by Pros and good prices. The only place in Fitzroy town to eat at a reasonable cost. relates to the memories of the Spotted Pig in NYC.
There are many wannabe pubs, bars and dinners, and then there is Builders Arms with its like minded staff and Andrew's leadership behind it which is point of difference in level of professional detail in a pub food first and service. All you junior wannabe industry hipsters eat and watch the detail in food in this space. my choice pepper steak with clean meats, roast chicken, Lamb Pie, wishing for Lamb Rump Steak ?
J. B.
Great place for an evening drink. Haven't tried the food but fairly priced wine and beer and very nice waiting staff.
D. O.
Food in Ricky and Pinky was excellent. We did the banquet. Sesame chicken salad, raw tuna, lamb with bao, dumplings, coconut watermelon saki granita dessert. Just loved it. Great atmosphere. Definite go to.
J. B.
Great food and drink in a nice atmosphere
K. A.
Good beer selection
T. W.
Look. I was at the Builders Arm 10 years ago, and when I was last there I wrote my name on the wall. Last night I had to sit there awkwardly while the waiter unnecessarily refolded my napkin, which I has used and was about to use again. The food was ok. But the whole experience was not what I expected. We've all just grown up.
L. B.
my partner and i tried out the newest indoctrination into the andrew mcconnell conglomerate after passing a couple of times on the 86. one cold night a few weeks later, before moon under water had opened, we decided to give the builders arms bistro a red hot go.
upon entering the establishment, the first thing that hit us was how unpub-ish it felt. where the front bar of a pub once stood, now felt like a sterile lobby with minimal space and seating. We approached the maitre d in the bistro to hopefully get a table as we hadn't booked. after giving our particulars we were told it would be about an hour for a table, so we headed back to the pubby-barry-thingy to have a beer. we ordered a couple of pints of cricketers arms to be told that they only have pots (no pints! in a pubby-barry-thingy!!). so we stood at the bar for the lack of seats/stools and scoffed at the size of our beers and how stark and sterile they've managed to make a once cosy fitzroy institution.
after 30 minutes we were surprised to learn that a table was ready for us so we moved into the bistro.
look, i am not going to go on about the food. it was delicious as expected from this group of restaurants. we shared smoked curd and clair de lune for starter, rib eye with broccoli salad and house chips for main, and chocolate prune pudding for desert. i couldn't fault it.
what really disappointed me about this establishment is it's distinct lack of ambiance (and i strongly believe that the ambiance is equal to the food in importance). the down-lighting lends a very washed out vibe while the fit out and art work is ordinary and uniform. some candles on tables, or floor lamps in corners could soften the space and add warmth, too. i have heard here and there that what the owners wanted to achieve was a gastropub but they have missed the mark if this is the case (may i point you towards the eagle or marquess tavern in london for accurate representations of what gastropubs should be).
it is a real shame that the builders arms hotel (pub) is gone and i can understand that for locals, it may feel like losing an old friend. it highlights the hits and misses of gentrification and how it can negatively impact on a given area. the builders arms hotel for me, is a miss.
P. S.
Ever reliable with very good food. We made a late booking for 10, a set menu that was fantastic. Staff were brilliant
L. P.
Great local pub, with top quality meals. Extensive wine list and some very quirky beers.
J. S.
Good tap list - case in point was having Bruny Island Cheese farm ale on tap.
The burger is really excellent - it's the special on the wall in the bar and comes with a pot.
m.
Came her for New Year's Eve with a big group. Service was amazing and the meal was delicious. Would really recommend it.
K. L.
A vibrant cosy pub that attracts a young clientele. The hotel has a bistro that serves well prepared meals.
B. T.
Really good food, particularly the oysters, and the service was outstanding.
D. P.
Just popped in for a coffee. Recommended by others and was surprised that a pub rocked a perfect Soy Latte. I was served by Rob and he knew his way around the machine.
R. D.
Great place but unfortunately the staff lost our dinner order and we had to wait another 45min-1hr for it to arrive. 1 person had already finished their meal.
K. W.
Great food! Great drinks! Knowledgable and friendly staff! Great atmosphere! Inside or outside is always an experience
E. J. R.
One of my favourite haunts. Can't fault the BA. It's consistently a real kick-back and chill pleasure.
J. D.
good atmosphere, attentive staff, good food, lots of choice for drinks.
A. C.
Excellent food!
F. H.
Lovely spot. Lovely cod roe dip too.
P. S.
Great buzzy atmosphere.Friendly staff. Steamed John Dory was a poor choice for me. Would not feed a cat.Glad of the bowl of chips.
L. C.
Food was a bit overpriced. Beer selection is ok compared to other pubs.
J. R.
Great food particularly the fish pie and service.
A. K.
Great food always and love their house chardonnay. Staff are friendly and attentive.
K. N.
Good atmosphere and service but food quality was lacking considering the price.
R. C.
Up to date, well presented, lots of spaces, great crowd. But that was during a lunchtime weekday. Evenings are a nightmare. Far too noisy for comfort.
R. H.
Always good service and most recent visit no exception. Had dinner out the back in Ricky & Pinky restaurant. Food was very tasty and came out quickly.
M. G.
Best bartender we have had in all the Pubs/Bars we have been to in Melbourne wish we could remember his name!!! Deffffsss recommend! 🙌🏻
P. R.
Nice food and drinks, but time for a makeover???
B. Y.
Fantastic food great range of beers and selection of wines and outdoor space for dining
A. W.
Good steak meal, nice decor and lovely crowd. Epitomises the modern pub experience.
R. G.
Landed in the city and sought sustenance. AND WE FOUND IT. Good food, odd there is a bar and a Chinese place all hooked together. We were still jet lagged so were a little out of it.
B. K.
Go here for a great feed and amazing drinks selection. Enjoy a Covid safe night out!
m. r.
good atmosphere, food was good but nothing spectacular.
M. M.
The best pub food I've ever had. Yum! Great place to visit by motorcycle. Bery chilled out.
A. C.
Average. Had the Lamb roll that contained a very small amount of lamb. Onion rings that were hugh and almost all batter not very good value for money.
N. P.
Love this place. They're doing an amazing fish pie to cook at home at the mo
B. S.
Food is pretty good and nice selection of beers on tap. $19 steak night on Mondays!
J.
One of my favourite pubs. Great food, good drinks, relaxed atmosphere.
N. B.
Attended their trivia night. Not your standard pub trivia questions. Good food & a fun night was had.
J. P.
I came hoping for a pub meal that was hearty, but was served a plate that was meagre and arty.
But I might enjoy myself more next time, now I know what to expect.
W. C.
Very good, just some craft beer today... it's good to be back...
v. b.
Loved the ambience, food. Amazing place. Must try.
T. B.
Great food, good atmosphere and good service.
J. H.
Great pub.
J. C.
Preferred the builders arms before they reinvented themselves as 'high end' pretty much the same pub. You pay more for the wine now...
R. M.
My food was burnt, it was very warm and no air circulation. Had to go outside a couple of times just to get some air.
L. M.
Excellent charcoal chicken on chicken night. Lovely staff.
G. L.
With the recent addition of a Chinese restaurant inside the pub it has plenty of options for meals. Parma with a side of gyoza? How about that for a combination!
t. b.
Great find. Can't wait to go back there and have more cocktails and food. Quaint and posh all at the same time. Get to it melbournites!
D. S.
Fantastic food, service and beverage. Definitely a good place to enjoy your day or night.
M. W.
Great food, good wine... Bit on the expensive side but food and service are good!
L. F. W.
A stalwart of Fitzroy/Collingwood. One of those reliable pubs that will always be there. Good for a casual drink and a meal, or perhaps an after work bevy.
M. H.
Incredible set menu. Best mussels I've ever eaten.
A. E. M.
Good service and dec, but food was not remarkable, nothing really new under the sky. Former builders arms food was by far better
D. T.
Stale environment food was ok nothing special. Was here for a family event with many other families but didn't really have a family vibe to it!
F. M.
Busy pub on Gertrude street which is great for a catch up. Small but good selection of beers on tap.
