Was so excited to try this place and we were not disappointed. My partner and I tried 5 share plates and would go back for 3 of the 5 again and again. Our favourite the soft shell crab burger!!! They had a toy selection for our kids to keep them entertained which was a great addition. Can't wait to go back again and again

Popped back up to the elpho for our first pub meal out of lockdown. I can confirm the food is still amazing. The tempura cauliflower starter is up there with the fluffy crab omlete from flower drum for my all time favourite dishes. It is perfection on a plate. Thanks again for a wonderful meal. First review below. Amazing, this pub is a must. Popped in to try the new menu and it's amazing. Try the cauliflower starter it was delicious. Plenty of vegan options and classic pub options. We normally have to drive to Melbourne to get great vegan food but we would have driven from Melbourne to here for this meal. Divine. I'll be back weekly from now on.

Amazing Food - Amazing Service and Amazing atmosphere. I was here tonight and heard 2 ladies treat the young waiter absolutely horrible. We sat across from them. (Just saw there review) Guys, ignore them, you always provide wonderful service, you’re so knowledgeable and helpful. It’s our family local. We love it! Had mother's day lunch at The Elpho on Sunday with husband and 3 kids. Was pleasantly surprised by my complimentary drink on arrival! The staff were lovely, the venue is tastefully decorated and loads of space for kids to run around in the beer garden. Our meals came out in good time and were better than expected. Kids said the bowl of chips were the best they've ever had (very large too), I had the Beef Rendang and it was great with home made roti bread $29, very reasonable price. We shared some scallops that were delicious and my husband had the slow roasted lamb which was well cooked and very tasty again, reasonably priced at $36. Thanks Holly and crew, we will be back again and again!

Stopped by this place to grab something to eat on the way back from bendigo was disappointed to find out that getting we had to wait about an hour for us to get some food. We got drinks instead so we didn't really get to try out their food, the vibe was great and we appreciated the fact the staff warned us about the wait time, we were really looking forward to grab some food but can't do anything about it now

Wonderful hospitality and food, tasty drink selection too. Beautiful outdoors areas, fab for the kids with massive fenced off yard, plenty of seating and a few trees. The kids loved the trains going past, could do with a cool viewing deck, they were so excited to count the carriages. Thanks for having us guys, we'll be back for more catch-ups for sure!!!

Eclectic pub located in surrounds reminiscent of another time from a past long ago. The menu is well rounded and provided options that certainly rose up to the occasion.

Classic country pub. Family operated with much passion. Food is solid. Curries a stand out. Classics include Parma, steak and chips. Ice cold beer on tap ( the only way to drink it ). Huge outdoor area can cater for lots of people, functions or just small groups. Give this place a try. It's worth the effort to get too from Castlemaine Malmesbury, Bendigo,keyneton and surrounds.

Love the food classic pub grub or classy bistro meals. The chef owns the pub and her partner runs the bar so you get food and drinks from someone who is passionate about what they do. I am biased about the waiting staff as one is my wife and the other is my daughter but they both love the job and the people who dine in. Lots of regular families every week.

On Saturday 14th March I headed up to perform a Baby Naming Ceremony at the Elphinstone Hotel. It is about 7klms from Castlemaine and there is nothing there except the Hotel, Football ground, and a couple of houses. It was a great experience as everyone had a great time. The hotel owners were friends of the parents of little Soleil and the hotel was well presented and fresh. They even have a shuttle service Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights to drive patrons home after their evening of drinks. Ensuring that nobody has to drink and drive. It only took about an hour and a half to drive up. Definitely worth popping into on the way to Castlemaine. "Thanks so much for the beautiful naming ceremony you did for us" - Stacey Holt
