Comments of Grace Darling Hotel

Great space, the architecture is fantastic thus providing several different atmospheric rooms indoors and outdoors.
Chips, eggplant parma etc was good but could be better! The beetroot burger was great. Efficient, helpful and friendly staff.
Definitely worth the visit. Also there drinks menu is extensive and nice vibe :)
Q. M.
Lovely Aperol spritzes for the pretty fair price of $15 a pop. There’s also a decent beer and wine selection. It’s good as a bar and just as good as a venue thanks to the large and dynamic space.

I haven’t been back to their steak night for ages .. but it’s still tasty and good. Pretty quick as well considering they were quite busy. The standard is consistent. Definitely recommend to try their steak night. One thing that I need to bring up. They need to offer more desserts on the menu
Previous Review:
Normally I go here for drinks, but last time we came here for their steak night on Thursday. It was a delicious $18 steak, chips were crunchy and the sauce was tasty. Tonight (Monday) we came here for the lamb shank’s night. $15 with the mash and another $5 with a glass of red. We ordered chips and salads to share. Very good value and outstanding services. Highly recommended

Amazing service and space to have my fiance's surprise 30th. Great friendly staff, very accommodating. Drinks kept coming that were on the drinks package. Food came out fast and delicious! Thank you so much!

Had a Christmas party in the cellar. The staff did an amazing job at catering to a huge amount of people. They were on the ball with the food, wait times and dietary requirements. Very friendly and approachable.

I attended the Grace Darling for a friend's 40th birthday on Tuesday night. The party was held in the cellar - the first time I had been down there. The decor was very original, colonial cellar, with white-washed stone walls and a fire place. The room was a bit dark, but plenty of candles made for a warm atmosphere.
The food was fantastic! It was a set menu, with choices of chicken parmigiana, vegetarian parmigiana, lamb shank, steak, or fish. I ordered the lamb shank, something I haven't eaten in years. The lamb was tender and dripped from the bone, The accompanying vegetables and salad were delicious.
Unfortunately it took longer then expected for the steaks to arrive, and everyone else had finished dinner by the time the steak orderers got their meals. I understand it can be difficult to get everyone's meals out together for a group of 30 people, as well as everyone else in the restaurant. A free drink was offered to all the steak eaters as compensation, which was a classy move by the pub.
I've eaten here before, and thoroughly enjoyed the night. I will definitely eat here again, or even just go for a drink. A comfortable and understated pub. Thank you!
E. M.
Always a great time here. Good beers on tap. Nice pub menu. Cozy environment. What more could you want?
P. Y.
hosted a bday party here at the Atrium. The set-up was gorgeous; it's a semi private area but honestly felt like a private area. My guests were incredibly wow-ed by the canepes they said they were really good. Everything went perfectly well for me that night; gotta really thank Maurice and team! Highly recommend for a group of ~50 party!

Wonderful place for a bite to eat. Great atmosphere with cosy spots to sit warming up next to a fireplace or two. Delicious meals.
A. S.
Cool Pub out Collingwood way, nice and spacious inside, with great natural light. Good selection of beers on tap, you'll find something for every beer drinker.
Only popped in for a quick drink on the way home, so can't comment on the food, but I'll probably be back to give it a whirl next time I'm in the area.
M. P.
Fantastic $15 lunch specials, friendly staff and nice food. Angus burger is a winner. This place is always a winner for work lunches. They are also happy to accommodate groups with a little bit of notice. Beer on tap is pretty good.
M. E.
Great old style venue i played a vig here with Sam Square we also had dinner. Food was a good size very fresh and cooked to perfection. Staff were friendly and very efficient. We had a packed house upstairs very happy with the PA and engineer
J. T.
Came here for dinner last night, ordered the vegan curry and bowl of chips. Dining area does get a bit loud. Seems the sound seems to echo a bit. Some good meat free options. Service was a bit inconsistent but overall a nice setting with a great atmosphere.
R. B.
Waiter service was excellent, we only order snack food, so l can't comment on their main's???
R. K.
One of Melbourne's more attractive pubs with beautiful rooms featuring fireplaces, wooden floorboards, lovely garden, outdoor seating at the front for optimum people-watching, and a great little gig room upstairs.
The drinks here are so good that you won't be able to just have a quick one. You'll inevitably want to stay for another especially once you've settled yourself into a nice corner table. There's also a dining area to enjoy your better-than-average pub fare if a slightly more formal setting is what you desire.
C. T.
The food is extremely good and consistent. Hats off to the chefs. Parma is the best one out of literally any bar I've been to in Melbourne. Lots of nice beers on tap. Staff are friendly. Cool atmosphere with candles and fireplaces.
K. S.
A lovely heritage pub in Collingwood. The food that we had to celebrate an engagement was canopies also lovely. We were not fans of their wine, unfortunately for us the cider had run out. But overall, very nice.
B. G.
I honestly just had the best burger I’ve ever had. The beetroot burger was to die for, with those chips. Damn so good! Going to miss this when I head back to Sydney. Also staff is super friendly! So good!
L. V.
Clean, calculated and courteous. Come here if want good service combined with care. X
D. A.
One of the best parmas in melbourne, also very dog friendly.
A great place to start the night, doesn't get too rowdy though
W. L.
Very welcoming & fun. A great place to settle in for a beer & chinwag.
A. T.
I love the the pub but the payment system is clunky and slow. for a night that didn't seem that buys we were waiting for a fair period compared to traditional walk up service. drinks came out that we didn't order. two meals came out that we didn't order and twice we ordered a pot of beer and received a pint (not complaining)
Overall I see potential with the Q Code ordering but at this stage it needs to be refined a little to operate more smoothly.
We will be back. just offering feedback to hopefully improve the experience moving forward. .

Great Fire on a cold night, such a great pub! Awesome food, Sunday Roast worth a trip to find and team behind the bar that go the extra effort.
K. D.
The Grace Darling was a fantastic place to have a long leisurely Sunday lunch. The restaurant had a great ambience and decor, the food was delicious! Varied and interesting menu, generous serves and presentation spot on all in a timely manner. The waitress was a delight, efficient, friendly and attentive without being over the top. All staff we encounter were very friendly and professional and looking like they were enjoying their jobs.
Highly recommend, thank you!
S. C.
Had a great time even when the venue had issues with the tap beer! Staff were very attentive and apologetic and made sure we were taken care of even when we could not get the exact drinks we wanted. Perfect Wednesday night 10/10
J. K.
Great venue for a function. Food was tasty!
G. H.
Went for a work lunch. Nice informal atmosphere. They sell Guinness which is a plus for me.
Look, the food wasn't amazing but certainly pleasant enough - with a good generous helping.
The staff were great.
So I would definitely recommend.

My thought upon walking into the Grace Darling.... "what the hell have I stumbled into here". You have to admit, a complete dive look from the outside is transformed into a comforting, warm, inviting space where patrons appear huddled over their tables deep in conversation, drinks and a fantastic fare of locally sourced food. The staff are the epitome of Collingwood, there are all the different flavours here and I finally found the chatty social staff member who filled me in on what night it was, steak night - I knew of course, the drink specials and a plethora of options to sit. It was so inviting I actually sat at the bar. The place was packed, its clearly a winner with local community and you can see why, the only place I felt the Grace Darling put a foot wrong was that initial moments of waiting for "my" outwardly type of bartender to appear to help me. There was a huge amount of staff on, all busy, all polite but mostly reserved. The meal was absolutely delicious, steak cooked as ordered and proportioned well. The cider was cold, on tap and in happy hour.
Bliss, I'll be seeing you again Grace - apparently the lamb shanks on a Monday is a must!
J. G.
Great ambience ! Perfect for having a good time with your better half.
a. t.
We had a small mix up with our Ubereats delivery order (mistakes happen). Very impressed with how the restaurant responded to the problem and sorted us out! (Uber eats was no help). Will be going back. Food is always excellent!
F.
Great venue with 3 levels for different vibes. I've played here many times and the staff are always so friendly & they have a great alcohol selection and tasty food.
Always great bands playing here as well and the sound engineers are quality, especially Marcus.
T.
Chicken tenders were brilliant, everyone in the group seemed happy with their meals. Parma and fries were nice
R. P.
Tasteful renovations here. The bar is lovely and they make good mixers and cocktails. Great place for a jug of some kind of spiked punch. The dinning areas indoors are nice, the best is the atrium with all the greenery. Food is very good.
J. M.
Wonderful pub / restaurant, only had a couple of drinks and fries but will definately we going back.. trendy, friendly and inviting.
T. C.
This is hands down my favorite pub in Melbourne. Guaranteed good tunes and great vibe. Staff are all legends. Awesome live music venue upstairs also.
Was pretty devastated when they switched out Mornington pale for furphy on the happy hour (just like every pub in Melbourne) but I think that’s new management for you...thank god they kept coopers or I’d be looking for a new local
A. A.
The Grace is Great! Beautiful old stone building, so warm and comfy inside. Fire places, mood lighting, great menu. Lovely mushroom and lentil burger. The vegan Sunday roast is to die for. I could eat it every day! Solid wine selection, good options vegans. Staff is always really nice and helpful if you got any questions.
J. R.
Nice atmosphere. Some old. Many young.
Staff were of questionable quality, often not giving us what we ordered. But a typical Melbourne bar service, they're doing me a favour.
Drinks were nice. Was there on the curry evening and had an amazing vegan korma (when it finally arrived). All the meals coming from the kitchen looked great. Food seemed like a strong point.
Toilets were possibly the worst I'd seen in Melbourne. The lack of cleaning and maintenance were shining bright on the night.
J. P.
Good food, good selection of drinks, welcoming staff and a nice atmosphere.
T. K.
A lovely old styled pub with modern touches. The beer selection is okay, could do with some more craft beers. I didn't try the food but it appears to be a nice dining setting too.
J. P.
Food was okay, busy for a Monday. Went for lamb shanks but by 7.30 they'd sold out, that's okay all the more reason to go back. We ordered together but our food all came out 10 minutes between so one person's food comes out then 10 minutes later the next the lastly 20 minutes later my scotch comes out, defiantly not medium. And my friends steak ordered rear (agreed not best ordered rear) came out at medium. As chef I would like to think I know how to cook a steak and time them so everyone gets there food together not one person finishes as the last person gets there's and it would really be nice to revive the same level of service. Considering that our industry needs to do everything it can to keep it alive
R. D. C.
Took 5 of my grandchildren to this great hotel for lunch. We each enjoyed a meal and drinks for under 200$. Our waitress was great, engaging with the kids made us feel welcome. Then it was off to Moomba for an afternoon of rides.
D. F.
Great Beers and pretty good selection of vegan food. Staff were amazing. Loved it!
S. B.
Cute spot for a winter Sunday roast and wine near the fireplace. They have vegetarian options which are great!
H. B.
Great beef burgers & hand cut chips! Wait staff were lovely, but the folks behind the bar could be a lot more hospitable. Would love to see some improvement there, as it's such a beautiful venue with so many assets, be a shame if poor service made it a place to avoid.
J. B.
A wonderful experience with fantastic staff and great food. Thanks for making our work Christmas lunch so memorable. Thanks to Isabelle and Alisha and the chefs for providing beautiful food and great service. Merry Christmas. Jane
J. G.
The Grace Darling is a beautiful old Collingwood pub that has kept with times and offers PRIMO food and traditional beer drinking if that is your want. I’ve been going for years and the owners love it and keep making it better and better for us punters. Bands if you want, beer and a great kitchen and bar all in an amazing building.
V. D.
Nice place, to eat, drink a frozen beer and listen to a band!
N. S.
Had a work function here and it was great. Staff were friendly and the food was good pub grub.
S. K.
Organised a surprise birthday dinner for my boyfriend at this venue and it was lovely. Except for the cake surcharge and the squishy space our group was in it was a great night and the staff were very facilitating and helpful. Really nice atmosphere and great drink prices.
T. B.
Great pub for a nice beer and feed. Awesome staff and the Thursday steak special was fantastic!
T. “. M.
There are several little sections in the city pub. A bistro, the general bar and band room upstairs. The bar meet be crowded but well serviced. Waiting is not an issue. Good selection of beers on tap. The general bar area is basically standing area with a few tables for milling around. Outside offers a better chance of seating. The music room upstairs had its own bar. The band area is very decent and allows great interaction with band and audience.
A. P.
I would give them 10 stars if I could! Absolutely marvellous staff! So friendly, accommodating, professional and eager to please, no request or query was too much trouble to assist us with. They were all terrific with our young diners as well, absolutely top notch! The food was also incredibly delicious! Worth every cent and definitely a meal we will all remember. Thank you all so much for making our night so thoroughly enjoyable 💖
A. C.
Got the chicken Parma which was nicely cooked and still juicy. The chips were good and looked like a half serve. The salad was a piece of lettuce. The beer that came with the meal was sour. Wouldn't be my go-to spot but it was ok
C.
Great food, although it's expensive for what you get, it still tastes great. Everything is made from scratch so the cost is definitely worth it. The roast was absolutely wonderful and followed it up with the chocolate pudding. Great little place with good customer service
C. B.
Fun vibe, great food and good beers selection
D.
Lovely venue and always great food. Shame it’s often spoiled by ‘ too cool to serve’ floor staff, not an uncommon occurrence in the inner north. If the bar welcome was a tad more professional would be five star all the way. Will keep trying :-)
R. C.
One of the old faithfuls on Smith st. Great music venue and always seems to be a rad disco Dj laying it down in the front room! My fave bar tender there once improvised a drink for me and anytime I go back he remembers - very awesome service! Keep up the good stuff legends

One of the best places in the best suburb of the best city in Australia. It is a somewhat well known secret that it is here that the Collingwood Football Club was formed. Two blokes sat here many moons ago and said “you know what, let’s start a football team that will go on to be the best team Australia has ever seen.” And that is what they did. Right here. I reflected on this amazing history as I ate my parmigiana. I brought Dirk here to watch a game after he rose from the grave. He wore his Essendon jersey and feared for his life - I told him he’d be fine. “What? How.” He said. RIP Dirk, 1962 - 1999. The Grace Darling is a great place to eat, drink or watch a game. Get on down there ya darn dingus.
S.
Cool pub with a funky vibe. Enjoyed many a drink here. Decent spread of beers if that's you're thing. Unsure of food and other drinks, however, food looks good if judge a book by its cover 😉
H. G. L.
Talking from my experience: very bar & restaurant. Has a fire place and good oceans eleven music playing.
S. M.
Great food although the front pub portion smelled strongly like stale beer, I guess it's a pub but even still it was a little overwhelming. Stick to the dining area if you want to enjoy a good meal, upstairs is good for live bands too.
D. S.
I came here for a 50th which was held in a sweet little space separate from the main area. But to get there at 7pm meant weaving my way through all the patrons. This place is still mentally crazily awesomely busy and has such a great vibe. Despite being winter people still sat outside wining and dining and watching the wonders of Smith Street go by.
The atmosphere was friendly and fun.
Staff are excellent and have fantastic lip reading skills because it can be noisy. The music isn’t intrusive but is loud.
The food was great with the burger and Parma being the most popular. Food portion sizes and reasonable prices. You order at the bar your food and drinks - no table service.
Wheelchair friendly. Kid friendly. Parking isn’t to bad. I so so will return.
P. R.
We had our first date at the grace darling and just had my first Father's day. Always accommodating and the food atmosphere is amazing. Much love.
J. T.
The brisket was melt in the mouth fantastic and some of the local brews matched perfectly. Weirdly quiet on a weekday for lunch, but you know what, that's what makes it a nice place to go for lunch during the week. I also hear there is a basement where loud music abounds of an evening :)
M. T. C.
Interesting venue, decent range of beers, prices within reason, excellent music during the times I've been there. And a good location to boot.
The loos . . . well, it's an old building and they need professional maintenance or renovation.
A. K.
Lovely atmosphere (though the music gets loud on weekends when they have a DJ) and excellent staff. I wasn't super impressed with their chicken parma, but the other menu items my friends ordered looked good.
E. T.
We hosted our engagement party + gig turned wedding celebration in the band room upstairs. Both the Functions Manager, Fushia, and the Band Booker, John, were brilliant throughout the planning process. They were accommodating and made sure we'd covered every detail. On the day, the staff were fantastic - friendly, helpful and went to every effort to ensure everything ran smoothly. The space was stunning, food was great, and all of our guests had a blast. We can't thank Hannah, Fushia, John and the rest of the team enough.
E. D. C.
Food was ok.Took a little long to come out. Nice vibe and friendly staff
Z. E.
Little stuff up with another table taking our food, but I have to say that the team handled it really well and cooked us up another batch as quickly as possible because we had to go to a gig! And the food was great! Thank you 😀
R. M.
Cosy atmosphere in the dining area.. food quality was good with pleasant staff offering table service. Wines are very expensive with an emphasis on Chardonnay.. who drinks Chardonnay in 2018? Overall, our experience was good.
A. A.
The beer selection is good enough though their Tuesday night Parma is awful. You'll find better Parma for that price even in the CBD. Lights are too dim and music is too loud to have a decent conversation with mates. Said so, the staff are friendly, helpful and listen to your requests.
J. W.
Went there while to a favorite and the band room is amazing for a mid size gig. The bar downstairs has good drink and food variety as well.
Y. R.
nice casual pub with good selection of food. i recommend their variety of entree dishes to share. The fried chicken was delicious.
A. T.
Always come here for the lunch time counter meal - Burger with a pot of Cooper's. Fries are cooked to perfection. Great value.
R. Z.
Great spot for some drinks. The selection isn't huge for craft beers, however there are a couple of the mainstream ones. It has an eclectic crowd and worth stopping for a brew.
S. T.
Not a great experience when we went with some friends for a Friday lunch. The food seemed to take a very long time to arrive, and when it did it was explained to us that a frier had "blown up". The food was OK, but certainly noticeably fried in a frier. The staff were overly casual I felt, with the one serving us sitting outside with other friends having a smoke whilst we waited for our food, and not explanation behind the wait. Not sure we'll go back again.
Z.
Me and my team are locals here. We just had a larger "function" and despite poor planning on my part, the entire experience was pain free. Meals were exceptional and prompt and the service we received was outstanding.
L. S.
Great lunch experience, excellent food and service you won't be didappointef
M. W.
Comfortable pub, great but limited selection of draught beers. Super friendly and engaging staff. Highly recommended.
E. C.
I've waved at least three waiters, several times and we just seemed invisible to them... The food is terrible, better off stick to drinks, which are quite reasonable price.
T. Z.
The Grace Darling is a well known hipster hangout and once you walk in you will see why. Calling it a pub is a little misleading as the food and drinks on offer are top notch and the staff, while usually looking grumpy and bored, are pretty cool and do a good job.
It's great as an after work drink or catch up spot because of the range of group seating (massive couches or tall tables) and the great happy hours.
R. S.
Had the Sunday roast special with was lamb. Came in cast iron bowl with lid meaning that it was served and stayed piping hot, which was a win. The crispy potatoes were amazing along with great flavoured lamb and gravy on the side.
M. Q.
Fast service, well priced and well cooked Parma. Cheese on the Parma was interesting, but overall a good meal. Burgers looked the business too and a good environment for lunch.
J. S.
The bar food fried chicken are tenders, not wings, just an FYI. Still delicious.
Standard taps with some craft taps like Colonial brewing company and Quiet Deeds in this case.
T. M.
Great pub, great location. Outdoor area has lots of space and shade.
P. N.
Had the Chicken Schnitzel, chicken good, salad only lettuce leaves and dressing, chips over cooked. Many better places to eat within 200m
T. D.
Sunday roast like you've never had before! A funky bustling pub with great atmosphere along with that quintessential Aussie Pub beer infused floor board aroma.
M. I.
The good.
Good food.
Good location.
Excellent staff.
Great kitchen.
The bad
Horrible sound system.
Terrible acoustics.
The good far out weighs the bad
H. S.
Delicious meals, nice vibe, good wine list, fun bar and great live music. The Grace Darling has it all!
m.
sunday veg roast. nicest- politest staff. so good
C. D.
Live music great food and wider choice of wine and beer.
D. M.
Love this place. Vegan roast is delish.
J. L.
Laid back, friendly, decent drink list. Music was a bit noisy and ill suited to the atmosphere for a Monday last visit but generally pretty endearing.
J. Y.
Great outdoor seated area and interesting selection of beers.
P. S.
A couple of the staff self consciously channeling the collingwood heroin look. Didnt know if they were going to take orders or ask for money. Food strong but drinks overpriced. Asking for a tip is taking the pish too
E. R.
great vibe great staff. one of my favorites on a night out.
R. F.
Thoroughly enjoyed our meal at The Grace Darling. Staff were attentive , efficient and friendly. Would eat here again.
L. L.
Best bar staff ever best time in ages even the owner was lovely
Z. S.
The Thursday night steak is really good and super affordable. Great place to get a drink and some amazing food.
H.
Cozy little pub with good selection of beer on tap. Food was outstanding and reasonably priced.
H. B.
Amazing night at the grace darling. Great food and service. Oscar was absolutely fantastic.
B. Y.
Interesting building inside food selection of live music but a pretty average selection of beers and lots of hassle from the more messy drug dependant crowd when sitting outside
A. K.
A chill place for beers and grub. A good selection of tap beers and outdoor seating is handy in summer, indoor fireplaces are cozy in winter.
J. W.
Had my last 2 birthday lunches here. Great food but service on the last visit was lacking and kept forgetting about our drinks orders.
E. B.
The grace darling is a Collingwood staple. A local watering hole for likeminded youths & seasoned Collingwood denizens alike. May I add, never a shortage of cuties, delicious beverages Or yummy food ;-). Impossible to stop by without falling head over heels for the bartendress-Ruby. A TRUE natural born mixologist. Would endorse the jager bombs & anything with midori.
P. Y.
Despite spending a good 30 minutes trying to find "The Grey Starling" before finally arriving, my evening here was fine. Good food, good prices and a happy crowd.
N. B.
Incredibly helpful and warm staff and delicious food - definitely made my event a success and I'd thoroughly recommend.
S. H.
Fantastic live music - Hannah, Long Lunch and then to cap it off the beautiful music of Love Migrate launching their new album - Somewhere over the Mangroves.
Y. L.
Great warm atmosphere, service was average; they forgot our drink orders several times. Food was okay.
S. H.
Multi-level live music pub/bar/what have you. Really nice staff, brilliant venue, do reccomend!!
H. J.
Frequent visitor of the pub. Great food and excellent spaces but not as much range of beverages as other offerings in the area.
M. L. M.
Out door seating, several beers on tap. An upstairs bandroom with a classy bar. The restaurant looks lovely.
J. Z.
Excellent food and service
M. T.
We had a decent Parma and a Salmon. Both very nice and the staff very friendly on a Sunday afternoon.
M. H.

c. s.
Excellent food, lunch specials are really good. Good value for money and the service is also really good. Beef burger is awesome
W. M.
Nice food, great & helpful staff. Lower area great for a function!
p.
The dude with the Burt Reynolds mo who expertly poured our refreshing and crisp coldstream ciders who was wearing a well worn fashion homage to David Bowie was auspiciously knowledgeable regarding standard glassware volumetric sizing and lexicon. His bartending prowess was only outshone by his silky balsam dark flowing curls. If he were an Uber driver he would only ever drive an Uber X and he would always indicate when changing lanes. #themanwhosoldthecider

Regular place to come on a Tuesday for $15 parma.. the parmas are hit amd miss, sometimes really good but sometimes dry.. good atmosphere and will continue to go.

c. s.
Staff generally lovely, some bored with working there. A little to expensive all up as well. A visitor from Perth. WA.
J. V.
Great food with helpful staff. A beautiful location. Great hamburgers!
X. W.
Great pub, but they recently cancelled their lunch specials (which used to be awesome), which is a bit of a disappointment.
N.
They have candles everywhere which is nice and good decor, I enjoy beer at this building.
I. B.
One of my favorite pub in Collingwood. Great vibe, great food, drinks and music!
M. P.
Lovely pub, with good Food & service and value for money.
G. W.
Great atmosphere and food. Cheap daily deals (had the Monday night fish and chips for $10....bargain).
M. C.

Great pub. Ample seating, food is delicious and prices are fair.

The venue itself is great, there's a cosy fire and good decor. The service wasn't too great
M. C.
Good spot for a gig or just to hang and have a beer

Go Pies
J. R.
Our Local so naturally it's the best pub in Collingwood.
S. E.
Good spot for a beer
N. H.
Great bar but I still can't figure out what that smell is
D. N.
Great service and supreme air-con on a muggy and stupid hot Melbourne night. Defo come back to try the great looking menu.
s.
Live bands are playing all the time and the indoors is luxuriously heated with very friendly staff.
H. R.
Easily the best value pub lunch in Melbourne. $15 for a burger fries and pot.
P. J.
